The post Councillor Margaret Crick first appeared on Abingdon on Thames Town Council.
]]>Margaret was first elected to the Town Council in May 2011 and has represented the Dunmore ward continuously since then. During her time on the Town Council, she served on many committees including the Environment, Amenities and Infrastructure committee, the Planning committee, and the Museum sub-committee. Margaret also served as Mayor of Abingdon in 2018-19.
She was also elected to the Vale of White District Council in a By-election in September 2014 and served as a District Councillor until she stood down in May 2023. It is a measure of the respect that she was held in by her fellow councillors that she was elected as Chair of the Vale for four successive years (2019-2023).
Margaret was a hardworking and dedicated councillor, building up a great deal of knowledge about Abingdon, and particularly her Dunmore ward. She was very keen to see a cinema remain in Abingdon and was particularly pleased that the Council had recently ensured this would happen. Margeret was also a passionate defender of the green belt. She was generous with her time with residents, councillors and staff. She brought great warmth and personality to meetings. She had an incisive and enquiring mind, not afraid to ask difficult questions but always tempering this with her caring and generous spirit and her great sense of humour.
Margaret leaves two sons, David and Michael. Our thoughts go out to them and her wider family at this very difficult time.
Margaret will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
The Town flag is now flying at half-mast above the County Hall to honour her, and to recognise her commitment and dedication to Abingdon-on-Thames.
Cherie Carruthers, Town Clerk. Cllr M Crick – Press Release 13.7.26 (1)

]]>The new crossing request was raised with the County by the local division Councillor Nathan Ley – Abingdon North, OCC following comments from local residents.
As part of the overall improvements during the white lining of the road County Highways have also repainted the Zebra Crossing at the top of Spring Road.

]]>Co-ordination has been happening behind the scenes between multiple developers, contractors, OCC highways and street works officers, Thames Water, bus operators, and local councillors to get the different work packages aligned so progress can finally move forward together.
Unfortunately this won’t be the end of the disruption, and the overall programme will still take several months.
Going forward, a North Abingdon works website is being set up that residents can be signposted to, this will be specifically to inform residents of the work schedule.
The site will be provided and updated by RPG Land the northern developments site promoter and the Town Council will link residents to it.

]]>The post Update on Bellway Homes Work on Twelve Acre Drive first appeared on Abingdon on Thames Town Council.
]]>We have had confirmation that Bellway’s next highways works package can start on Tuesday 26 May.
This first phase is expected to take around 2–3 weeks and will include work on a crossing with pedestrian refuge island (#1) and preparation for a bus stop facility.
The light-controlled crossing (#2) follows after that. I’d hope the new paths on either side could be opened ASAP too.
This is part of the wider programme of works linked to the North Abingdon development, and I know residents will want clear, practical updates as things progress. Bellway and David Wilson Homes are meeting to agree the next phases and produce a clearer joint programme.
They’ve also agreed to a dedicated website so residents can be pointed to one place for updates. I’ll share that as soon as it goes live, maybe next week?
The Town Council will share any updates from Cllr Ley as we see them.
