Alum Ricky Costas-Hernandez on How CUNY BA Helped Launch His Career

A man with dark hair and a brown button-down shirt in front of a white backgroundMy CUNY BA degree in Business Analytics & Data Strategy provided the rigorous academic foundation needed to land a competitive management consulting role.

Collaborating with my CUNY BA faculty mentor to design my degree, I blended foundational data analysis and business management courses with graduate-level courses in disciplines like algorithmic bias and industrial-organizational psychology. I also had the flexibility to explore innovative courses such as the Google Experiential Practicum, a unique course where we developed real products under the mentorship of current Google employees.

My interdisciplinary, industry-aligned degree excellently positioned me to earn a summer 2025 internship at Accenture, a leading multinational technology consulting firm. After applying my academic learning to industry over the summer, I gained firsthand experience in change management and testing AI algorithms for bias.

Ultimately, I earned a full-time role as a Process Excellence Analyst at Accenture and am starting my career in San Francisco, California the global hub for technology and AI.

Attend a CUNY BA Information Session to learn how!

What is the CUNY Baccalaureate for Unique and Interdisciplinary Studies (CUNY BA)?

CUNY Baccalaureate (CUNY BA) has been around for over 50 years! It offers highly motivated students with unique academic and career goals the opportunity to design Areas of Concentration (AOCs) (similar to majors) in collaboration with CUNY faculty mentors. (You get to design a unique bachelor’s degree in CUNY!)

Create Unique Degrees Like:

  • Game Production
  • New Content Creation and Entrepreneurship
  • Health and Exercise Science
  • Financial Technology
  • AND MORE

CUNY BA is an interdisciplinary studies program within the CUNY system. Students choose courses from different CUNY departments and campuses to earn a bachelor’s degree. Attend the info session to learn more about the process.
CUNY BA is for students who want to design a bachelor’s degree (Area of Concentration|AOC) that is not already offered at CUNY (minimum 120 credits). As part of the CUNY BA applicationstudents propose what they want to study and what CUNY courses they think are suitable for the bachelor’s degree they are creating (it’s a first draft).

Please watch the CUNY BA Info session for more information.
At the CUNY BA information session, you will get an overview of the program, including:

  • How CUNY BA works and the application criteria
  • The CUNY BA application process and requirements for creating the CUNY BA Area of Concentration (AOC).
  • What a CUNY BA Faculty Mentor is
  • Also, where to search for CUNY courses for your CUNY BA Area of Concentration (AOC).
  • Opportunities and accelerated graduate programs within CUNY BA
  • Question and Answer session
