Jazwares exclusives aplenty

A pretty big name in the collector market today, Jazwares holds some impressive licenses. Those include Marvel, Star Wars, AEW wrestling, and the phenomenon that is KPop Demon Hunters. And for fans who’ll be heading to San Diego Comic Con this month, there’s set to be a little of everything in store.

To that end, the company has multiple points to chat about today. That being the reveal of a loaded show schedule, plus the list of exclusive items. The former will be found in the company’s booth (#3513), and will include a surprising amount of happenings. Before we get to those though, there are the con exclusives.

That’s a lot of stuff, and there are some gems that look to be included. As for our favorites, those start with the concept art edition of Boba Fett’s Starship. The familiar starship looks awesome in that colorway.

Then there’s the Billy Goat himself, AEW’s Will Ospreay. With the wrestling license departing the company some time soon(ish), this feels like it might be one of the last opportunities to get a figure of a talent like Ospreay. So if you’re a fan, you might want to take a look at that one.

While we love exclusives, there’s more news today than just what’s pertaining to physical merch. As mentioned, Jazwares will have a full set of in-booth happenings as well, including signings, meet & greets, and appearances.

From the looks of the list as it stands now, not everything is final just yet, but you can get a sense of the catalogue for sure. As hinted at too, we’re actually pretty surprised at the depth of what’s planned. Fans can look for a total of seven events to be on the books.

Keep in mind however, that all of the below will be taking place in the Jazwares booth, which is #3513 on the show floor. That being said, you’ll need an SDCC badge to attend. That goes for buying the exclusives at the Con too, though again, those you’ll be able to find online.

If you’ve been paying attention to the comics scene, then it’d be kind of impossible to overlook a company called Titan. Maybe still a bit better known for book publishing, Titan’s comics wing has dug into the floppy market in a big way, producing fan-favorite titles like Conan the Barbarian, Blade Runner, Gun Honey, and more.

And now that Comic Con has once again rolled around, the company is ready to make a splash with all of the above and more. Fans can look for Titan Comics‘ presence to include panels, in-booth autograph signings, and of course some exclusives to buy. We’ll get the events in just a moment, but first let’s talk exclusives.

The Titan booth (#5537) will be humming with those, as fans will be able to find four exclusive Conan covers stocked. According to Titan, those will include “a stunning foil variant of Dan Panosian’s cover to Conan the Barbarian #21, a virgin variant of Jason Shawn Alexander’s Conan the Barbarian #22, a special foil variant of The Savage Sword of Conan #8 by legendary artist Joe Jusko, and a black-and-white variant of Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring #1 by famed Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.” On top of that too, writer Jim Zub will be present for autographs on Comic Con weekend, with appearances on Thursday (11:30am), Friday (1pm), and Saturday (4pm).

Blade Runner will well represented as well, with copies of the Blade Runner 2019: The Complete Series Omnibus on sale exclusively at the Titan booth. That’s plus a virgin variant of Heat Seeker: Exposed – A Gun Honey Series #1 and an SDCC exclusive variant of Heat Seeker: Exposed – A Gun Honey Series #2, which will both also be ready for purchase. Those aren’t all either, as there’ll be a host of additional titles on hand too.

From stately Comic Con

How long have you been a DC Comics fan? If you have any kind of depth of history behind you, then chances are you know Bob Wayne, even if you’re not familiar with the name. That’s because Wayne spent almost 30 years at DC, as its head of sales & marketing, before moving on about a decade ago.

As such, he’s got some tales, so it’s a good thing that friend and Forbidden Planet TV’s Andrew Sumner was there at Comic Con International. There the two engaged in a chat about Wayne’s life and times, along with guests like William Schanes, David Siegel, Fletcher Chu-Fong, and Stuart Shreck. The talk also included Wayne’s memories of comics luminaries that he met along the way, like former DC president Paul Levitz, and icons Will Eisner and Steve Ditko.

At almost an hour long, it should give you a good feel for what a Comic Con panel is like too. So if you’ve never sat through one, grab a snack and enjoy.

Hammering it out

One of the coolest Star Wars things that Hasbro showed off at SDCC last week, at least as far as we’re concerned, was The Armorer’s Forge. A new playset taken right from that hit first season of The Mandalorian on Disney+, The Armorer’s Forge was a big piece of that initial run’s storyline.

Now the setting itself is being adapted into toy form, as a part of The Vintage Collection. That’s the classic, 3.75″ Star Wars line from Hasbro, and the one that we see getting vehicles, playsets, and HasLabs most often. Often rumored to be dying out, but never actually going anywhere.

The Forge will include the actual forge itself, as well as a tool cabinet, and what looks like a decent amount of accessories. Naturally, the Armorer is included too, along with the littlest Mando, Grogu.

As you can see there, The Armorer’s Forge also has some great box art, which does a great job of mimicking the iconic Star Wars packaging from decades past. It’s even got the little “Kenner” logo. Tough to resist.

While the Forge was revealed at SDCC, it’s not an exclusive item to that show. That’s not to say it’s not exclusive to something though, as it is up for pre-order now via Hasbro Pulse. STAR WARS The Vintage Collection The Armorer’s Forge Playset is priced in at $59.99 USD, and is set to ship on “approximately” December 1st, 2024.

As collectors know though, we might end up getting it a little before or after that date. Things are somehow still a little weird with shipping times here in the post-pandemic era.

Go see ’em

Comic Con is undoubtably one of the biggest pop culture events in the world, and that one week(ish) in July just might be the most magical time of the year for pop culture. But did you know that there’s a museum right smack-dab in San Diego that celebrates Comic-Con International all year long?

That, as you might’ve guessed, is the Comic-Con Museum. Located at 2131 Pan American Plaza, the Comic-Con Museum serves up special exhibits throughout the year, and is just about to refresh with a brand new one called The Myth of Superheroes.

The institution just revealed both that new show, which debuts in September, and the following event, which will be March 2025’s Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder: Where Science Meets Fiction.

The Myth of Superheroes – World Premiere Exhibition

• Opening September 2024
  • This exhibition is an invitation to explore an incredible world in which people can fly, read minds, control time and the magnetic field, climb walls, and work magic. Reconstruction has transported the myths and legends of the past to the present day: from Hercules to Superman, from the Amazons to Wonder Woman, from Mercury to the Flash, the legends change guise but keep faith with their mission to guide new generations towards a better future, where action and battle are the other side of a coin that demands morality and responsibility. The exhibition displays a rich selection of over 400 objects in which authentic replicas of archaeological statues and busts of ancient gods and heroes dialogue with comics, original drawings, modern statues, and action figures in a highly innovative exhibition pathway for adults and children.

25 years

Celebrating a quarter century in action is IDW Publishing, and the company is planning out a big SDCC to honor the occasion. IDW will be bringing along its biggest books, with lots of TMNT set to star, and be included in what’s looking like a solid list of signings (at booth #2729) for fans to get in on.

Those will include the aforementioned, along with Star Trek, Godzilla, Sonic the Hedgehog, My Little Pony and lots more. The full collection will play out across all five days of the show, including the preview night of Wednesday the 24th.

Here’s a look at what you’ll be able to see and do, if you’re heading to the San Diego Convention Center later this month:

Toon in

Just launched, cable channel MeTV’s MeTV Toons is the place for classic animation and the cartoons that you might’ve grown up with. The channel has a whole bunch of classic properties on board, presenting everything from the iconic Looney Tunes collection of characters, to niche shows like the 90s gem that is Freakazoid!.

Now the platform will be heading to SDCC later this very month, with a packed panel moderated by Variety’s Michael Schneider. Attending will be actor and “official voice of MeTV Toons” Bob Bergen, plus “animation historian Jerry Beck, 2x Emmy-Award winning voice actor Eric Bauza, plus renowned voice actors Jeff Bergman and Candi Milo”.

The fun will kick off on July 26th, and run from 1-2pm pacific time. That’ll be in Ballroom 6A at the San Diego Convention Center. The show will contain a look at all the stuff that MeTV Toons currently showcases, plus an early look at what the channel has planned to celebrate the 84th birthday of the legendary Bugs Bunny.

Calling all classic animation fans! Don’t miss this exciting panel, where we’ll explore, discuss and celebrate some of the greatest classic animation series and characters, now featured on their new TV home, MeTV Toons, which launched on June 25. Bringing back the fun

With the pandemic winding down (in most of the country) Nintendo has once again gassed up the bus and is set to head out on the open road. The destination? FUN.

Well, actually the destination is mainly ‘shopping malls’, but you get the drift. That’s the say that the great Nintendo Switch Road Trip is here, and will be canvasing the US this summertime.

If you remember, prior to the pandemic years, Nintendo did this kind of thing quite often. Basically, it entails little popup shops, where people can buy stuff, as well as play some of the latest in Switch hardware and games.

The OLED Switch console will of course be there, with a selection of newer (and yet to launch) titles. Amongst the games scheduled to appear will be (according to Nintendo) “Nintendo Switch Sports, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Mario Strikers: Battle League, which launches on June 10.”

Kind of cool too, that among the places the display will appear is this year’s SDCC. Just like old times. Scroll down to see the full list of places and happenings.

Virtually there

As we continue the SDCC’s first hiatus since… ever, more names are being added to the list of @home showings. It’s a roster that now also includes Mondo, who have revealed their slate of presentations.

No, there’s nothing like actually being there, but the company will be giving fans the next best thing with panels and live chats. The whole thing kicks off this week, on July 22nd.

Thursday, July 23 

• Mondo Live Artist Talk: Daniel Danger, Sara Deck, Jack Hughes, Justin & Paige Erickson, Rory Kurtz and Truck Torrence sit down to discuss the current poster scene. They’ll share a look at their process, hint at what they’ve been working on, and discuss where they’d like to see the alternative film poster scene go next. • An Evening with Toys: Mondo Toys and Collectibles Creative Directors Mike Bonanno and Hector Arce will host a live AMA showcasing their toys, collectibles and tiki line up for 2020 and 2021.
