One, two or three hour workshops or whole day events designed to inform, inspire and give support to learn more about writing and publishing all types of books. Ideal for libraries, schools, community groups and book festivals.
I’ve worked with libraries and schools across Teesside and have delivered sessions including full day writer workshops at the Crossing the Tees Book Festival, the WRITE Festival and Sci-Fi Scarborough.
One of my most popular workshops, in this session we cover how to get your book ready, how to pitch to agents if you want a traditional publishing deal, how to self-publish and own your work, and discuss the pros and cons of each possible route.
Covering the basics of what makes a good story, how to craft memorable characters and how to structure your story, this session is suitable for writers working on short stories, novellas and full length novels of all genres.
I love this session where we cover the reasons why people write their memoirs and true life stories, how to research and structure your book, the legal aspects of defamation and privacy, and then ways to publish your book.
This is a very practical session covering ways to distribute your book once it’s published, in eBook, paperback, hardback and audiobook formats, online and in shops, and then how to market and promote your book, including social media, blogging and pay per click advertising.
“Really useful session, thank you. I’ve learned more in the past two hours than I have in months.”
“Informative and useful, it’s made me want to get back to my writing.”
“Intense and lots of information but it’s been fun. I’ve learned a lot.”

It has been my pleasure, over six years, to have received the wisdom of Dr CG Hatton and to entrust her with the preparation and finally production of my two novels. In that time I have come to appreciate her care, tact, consideration and ability to get things done, and her gentle professional encouragement by which problems disappear and our own words appear in wonderfully prepared printed form.
Gillie has been a source of professional knowledge, kindness and inspiration. Her encouragement and insight has been much appreciated. I have always found Gillie to be considerate, efficient and above all professional, and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to any future would-be authors.
