Its always better to remove the old paint. I recommend using a heat gun and a proper sander 🙂

Thank you for sharing the test. I’m thinking of re-paintng a small wooden piece already covered by enamel. Would you think the removal of the previous layer is needed, if there is no lacquer layer?
