Cynda Collins Arsenault has been named the recipient of Boulder Rotary’s 2026 Jim Swaeby Peace Award in recognition of more than five decades of work advancing peace, justice, cooperation, and a more secure and sustainable world. Arsenault will be presented with the award at the 8th Annual Jim Swaeby Peace Award Luncheon (Sept. 18) during the Boulder Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. The annual award honors an individual or organization in Boulder County that exemplifies the ideals of Rotary, particularly “the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.”
Arsenault is co-founder and president of Secure World Foundation, an operating foundation that promotes cooperative solutions for the secure and sustainable use of outer space for the benefit of humanity. She is also co-founder and board member of the PAX sapiens family foundation.
Her more than 50 years of nonprofit work has included peace and justice, criminal justice, mental health, disability rights, and environmental issues. Her personal philanthropy focuses on bringing women’s critical skills to the table to address difficult challenges, with particular emphasis on women, peace, and security.
Arsenault founded and works with PAX’s Our Secure Future – Women Make the Difference initiative, which focuses on the role women can play in addressing global security challenges. She is also the founder of Women Powering Change, an annual gathering of women working to create a better world.
Her commitment to peacebuilding is reflected in her involvement with Boulder Rotary, where she is a member of the club’s Peace Builders Committee. She is also a member of the Rotarian Action Group for Peace, as well as the Women’s Donor Network, Women Moving Millions, and International Women’s Forum.
Arsenault will join the previous Jim Swaeby Peace Award recipients whose names are inscribed on the marble monument displayed at the Penfield Tate Municipal Building in Boulder. Previous honorees include Dorothy Rupert (2019), Ellen Moore (2020), Leslie Durgin (2021), Betty Ball and Leroy Moore (2022), Peter and Beth Ornstein (2023), Joe Pelle (2024), and Dr. Bernard Amadei (2025).
The Peace Award commemorates the life and contribution of Boulder Rotarian Jim Swaeby, who devoted his time, talent, humor and passion to building a better world. His personal mission was to “do an unexpected act of kindness or generosity for someone less privileged."

BOULDER, CO — The Boulder Rotary Club and the Peace by 2030 Initiative invite all peace-minded organizations and individuals to celebrate Peace Weeks’ events in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace on September 21, 2026. This year’s theme of the Boulder Builds Peace Initiative is “Peace is Possible.” Attend the many Peace Weeks’ events which begin Sunday, September 13 and run through Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Peace building is fundamental to Rotary’s global mission. Through the year-long Boulder Builds Peace Initiative, the Boulder Rotary Club brings together diverse local nonprofits, civic organizations, faith communities, educational facilities, and businesses to highlight local, national, and global pathways to positive peace.

Road of Remembrance Update: Help Us Honor Local World War I Veterans
Colorado state legislature recognizes the road of remembrance
In the 1920s, a wide variety of Boulder civic, veterans, and governmental groups came together to plan a “Road of Remembrance” along Arapahoe Road from what was then the Lincoln Highway (now US 287) to Boulder. This Road was intended to honor the Boulder County soldiers who served in WWI. The project garnered substantial support and a beautiful Gateway to the Road (aka the pillars) was dedicated in the East County in 1928 flanking Arapahoe just west of the intersection with US 287. However, when the Depression hit, the energy for completing the project faded and the Road was never formally recognized as a tribute to our WWI veterans.
In conjunction with Boulder Rotary Club’s effort to preserve the Gateway, the Colorado Legislature recently passed House Joint Resolution 26-1022 formally designating Arapahoe between US 287 and 28th Street in Boulder as “The Road of Remembrance.” The resolution unanimously passed with co-sponsors including Representatives Brown, Joseph, and Smith, and Senators Wallace and Amabile.
At the Legislature’s direction, BRC is working with CDOT to publicize the Road along this portion of Arapahoe. Work also continues to finalize plans to relocate the Gateway further west at a new “Remembrance Plaza” in the Atlas Valley development on the corner of 95th and Arapahoe.
Our donations sponsored free books every month for 94 Boulder County children up to age 5. Many of these children are at Boulder Day Nursery and Boulder Housing Partners. This year, we have been contacted by a new school, Growing Minds, which is looking for sponsors for a number of children.
This year, the Imagination Library Committee will be available toanswer questions and accept donations on Friday, February 27 and Friday, March 6. Stop by the Imagination Library table at the meeting and show your support for this amazing program. It helps children in our community develop a lifelong love of learning and reading.
