A different kind of puppy arrival

Babe: No matter what portion of the animal kingdom they come from, wise mothers understand that sometimes, they need help. For me, having my final set of puppies was the time for me to get some help. Jack was a wonderful human comfort and he kept me in ice cubes while we waited for my puppies. He was on his own because the lady was gone away to take care of those human puppies named Katie, John and Sarah.

Jack loves me and takes very good care of me, but let’s face it: he’s never actually given birth to puppies, not even human ones. Jack is also very smart. He knows when to call Dr. Connie. He took me to see her on Saturday morning and I knew right away, he’d found me the help I needed. She did a little of this and a little of that. She told Jack that she would take my puppies out of my belly for me. She also told him that he would be able to help. That was a good thing. I trust Jack as much as I trust Dr. Connie.

Pretty soon, Dr. Connie and her helpers Amanda, Krista and Cammie helped me go to sleep. In a little bit, I woke up and there were all my sweet little puppies. All I had to do was give them their mommy baths and let them keep eating. The humans had given them baths but of course, I’m the mama. I’m the one who knows best what my babies need.

Jack brought us home and we settled into our whelping box. The lady came home and then Jack could get some rest. The lady knows just where to rub my head to make me relax. And she understands what it’s like to have puppies of her own – even though her human puppies only have two legs.

Spring walks

Sunday was another one of those beautiful spring days so the lady took me for another walk on the farm road. My friend Jada and her human came along, too. It’s always good for me to have another doggie buddy along. It was a good walk – there was a breeze that kept scents in the air all along the way. The scary big animals that make MOOOO sounds stayed far away from the fence so I didn’t have to worry about them. The lady and her friend stopped to talk to the farmer. He was out in the pasture checking on a new baby cow. Looks like there’s baby stuff going on all around.

So now, about my babies. Jack is running his “name the puppy” contest on my Facebook page. The lady is mostly responsible for naming my puppies. This time she’s going to name them after authors and fictional characters. She’s mumbling things about authors with names like Charles and James. I have no idea what she means. I’m a great dog, but for some reason, Jack didn’t try to teach me to read books.

Mother’s Day 2015

You can see that Mother’s Day was a beautiful weather day. The lady has been taking me for long puppy walks and she stopped along the lane to take this photo of me. We love puppy walks and now, the lady’s friend, Deb, has been coming out here to walk with us. We let her do that because she brings my buddy Jada with her.

These walks aren’t like the ones we do in town. The lady loops the lead around her neck but doesn’t bring it anywhere near me. No need to. I’m a very nice walking companion and rarely wander more than eight or ten human lengths away from her. And walking the shady lane and romping in the fields is perfect for a dog like me.

Especially on Mother’s Day. Especially since I’m going to be a mother again.

Luke joins the 3CR Team

Now that the puppies are gone, it’s time for you all to get acquainted with the big dogs. And I’m one of the big dogs – the REALLY big dogs.

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Luke. I was a Three Cedars Retrievers puppy. I left here and after staying with a different family for a while, I came back. It’s taken me some time to get readjusted but I think I’m making real progress. The lady has taken me for puppy walk with Jada Jewel. Jada has a human who is friends with the lady. I worked very hard to behave even though there were so many things to see and sniff.

Now that my house manners are nicely polished, Jack is starting to train me to work like the other dogs around here. Today was an exciting day. There was a fun test for hunting dogs. Babe, Dash and Ron were all scheduled to take the test. Mas and I were along for the ride. It was a very nice day to be out and about.

Toward the end of the day, Jack decided it was time for me to take some swimming lessons. I didn’t want to disappoint him and based on the way he and the lady were cheering for me, I didn’t let them down.

Gosh, if that’s all it takes to make them happy, well, I really AM a good boy!

Finally Grace tells her story

As the only lady in the litter, clearly, Jack was saving the best story for last. I left Three Cedars just ahead of Boone. You all remember him as Bond. But this is about me. Not him. And not the rest of the litter. It’s time for the story of Grace.

My new family looks perfect for me. It’s a man, like Jack. And a lady, like the lady. Just right. And they have two of those human puppies. Not too little. And not too big. They look just right. And I’m going to live in Connecticut. Sounds just right!
The plan is for me to be a hunter and a companion. That’s the perfect job for a high drive dog like me.

I am the highest drive puppy from this litter and my new humans are ready for that.

The lady at Three Cedars always loved my name. She knew that when I went to my fur-ever home I would get a new name. And she knew my new humans would choose something perfect for them and for me. And they did.

My new name is Three Cedars Babe’s Amazing Grace. My call name? Well, that’s still up in the air, you see. I have several suggestions. Gorgeous. Strong. Smart. Determined. Or maybe they’ll stick with the best choice. Grace. It really is a great name.

Boone and his new playmates

I was the last puppy to leave. The lady told me I was going to someplace called Can Etiquette. I don’t know where that is, but the lady says I’ll be happy there and Jack says she’s always right. The lady gave me some puppy snuggles and then she went to work.

My new humans came for me in the morning. That would give us lots of time to get to know one another. When they arrived, they had some really cool surprises for me. They had human puppies. Not big human puppies, like Duke – I mean Luce. Three human puppies – and one of them is almost as small as me! Jack says we’ll all grow up together. I wonder if they will sleep in my crate with me?

Austin and the new lady said that they had worked hard to get a new name for me. I’m not Bond anymore. I’m Three Cedars Backwood’s Master. Call name? Boone. Jack says the lady would like that – it has a lot of history behind it.

So now, I’m off to my new home at Squash Hollow Farm. I have some kids to train.

Luce and his new family

I told you all that I was the first puppy picked for a new home. I just had to wait a few days for my new humans to come and get me! Todd and the new lady came together and they brought those two human puppies with them. They’re pretty big puppies, but that’s ok. I’m going to be a big puppy too. They’ll have to be pretty big to keep up with me.

You already know that when we go to our fur-ever homes, we get new names. My new humans worked really hard – after all, coming up with a better name than Duke isn’t easy. I think they did a really good job. My new name is Three Cedars Babe’s Son of Italy. My call name is Luce. Pronounce that Looch. Like Luciano. The original lady says it makes her think of Pavarotti……but she hopes I’m not a singer. Do dogs sing?

Nitro’s new hunting partner

I know how much thought my human put into selecting me. Raymond came by several times and looked us all over. In the end, it could only be one: Bob has a new human.

Jack knows Raymond. They’re hunting buddies. Jack used to hunt with his buddy, Ron Lazur and they’d take Raymond along. And Dontae. He used to hunt with them, too. Now, I’m going to be part of that tight group. I may be the luckiest pup, you know? I’ve got a new home with Raymond, but I’ll still get to see Jack. And I’m sure I’ll get to hunt with my mom and dad, too!

Raymond brought his buddy, Dontae, along when they came to get me. That only makes sense. We’re going to be the best of friends. OH! Yeah! One more thing: I got my forever name. I’m not Bob anymore.

Now, I’m Three Cedars Main Element. But you can call me NITRO!

The lady said that Clint was a name for the strong silent type. I’m not sure what that means, but I’m not Rowdy, if you know what I mean. Now, it looks like it’s time for me to be moving on, you know? Every which way but loose. My new human came here to get me and now, I’ll be heading home with him. With my nice yellow coat, I’ll be his pale rider. Curt says he’ll love me and take care of me, no matter what, the good, the bad and the ugly.

We headed out to get in his car – it wasn’t a Gran Torino – and now, I’m feeling like a million dollar baby!

One more important thing. I’m not going to be Clint anymore. Now, my name is Flyboy Zebulun of Three Cedars. Call name Zeb.

That’s even cooler than Clint.

Duke speaks

Hello. Duke here. Seems like things are getting a shake up here at Three Cedars Retrievers. Yesterday, we had some visitors. Now, these humans have been to our house before and they must like us a lot because they came back again!

This time, Jack and the lady took us all outside to play. Even though it started to rain, the humans looked happy. That was kind of surprising because you know how humans can be all fussy about getting wet. It’s not like they’re puppies, right?

Well, we puppies all went down the steps and into the yard. The humans were all standing in the grass pretty much doing nothing. Humans can be pretty silly. Anyway, we got into the grass and then the lady called puppy, puppy, puppies! And started walking up and down the yard. She knows we love it when she does that so we followed her.

Then, one of the big human puppies started walking in the yard, so we followed him, too! The visiting humans took turns holding my brothers and sister and me and giving us the kind of cuddles and snuggles that the lady gives. We all came back into the house and the new humans played with us on the floor and kept asking which one? Which one?

You see, these people were Todd and HIS lady. And Todd and the lady have two big boy human puppies. They were all very nice and clearly, very smart and perceptive. Because before they left our house, they told me that I was going to be their puppy.

The lady seems to take good care of her big human puppies so I think she’ll love me very well, too. I liked the human puppies. Oh. And Todd seems nice too. He’s a lot like Jack.

We still have to learn what my new name will be. It seems that when you go to a new house, sometimes you get a new name too. My new humans will give me a nice name. I just know it!
