I assume the EU won’t be very interested in building its own network to reduce data loss to the US with a US-company.

They have a revolutionary design that combines supercomputing and server cooling. It reduces space requirements to something like 30% and lowers power consumption by about 20%. They’re going on a European sales tour soon. Know anyone that would be interested in speaking with them?

Thanks Jaap. It is indeed impossible to ignore this as a strategic problem. But as war planners factor internet cables into their defensive plans, they will also factor them into their offensive plans. This will make it impossible to solve this problem simply by adding new cables.

At the moment this topic is also being discussed in Brussels looking at the Internet connections from a European perspective. The EU has realized all data traffic goes through the US and we don‘t seem to get along as well anymore as we used to. So voices are getting louder to build a European backbone thus avoiding our data go through the NSA, FBI, CIA and sister organizations.
