The post Training around injuries for Martial Arts and Fitness appeared first on Courage Training Centre.
]]>It doesn’t matter whether you are a fitness Coach or Martial Arts Instructor it is common for someone to present with an injury like a sore leg (knee, ankle, foot or little toe :(… ) For anyone who has ever trained for a important competition or fight with a champion mindset knows that these things are common place and that the opportunity must be seized to redirect efforts into another area. Now before anyone gets over excited and think we are suggesting shrugging off the importance of looking after your body, we are not. You should find whatever won’t cause further damage and do that.
This is how jiu jitsu and fitness training can help you problem solve to lead a better life……Once you accept the fact that problems arise and you must soldier on. You learn to think critically and stick to your original mission plan.
You can’t accept the life changing benefits and spirituality of martial arts and fitness training if you leave the mat or gym at every hurdle.
If your wrist is sore train legs, kick more….If your leg is sore, do some boxing work on your bench. If your back is sore, do some core work and rehab watch class and take notes.

]]>The post Emotional eating for weight loss….And my take on it. (Ian Bone Courage Training Centre) appeared first on Courage Training Centre.
]]>Well this is for all you emotional eaters. The people that think food can make you happy. Which we all know deep down it can’t right?? I hope so anyway.
So why is it we think food can make us happy? It has to be directly linked back to our childhood before food had time to dramatically effect your bodies. When life was simple and we were forming our own perceptions on the world and our relationships with people and things. Perhaps when a kind person gave you treat. You were at a party or special occasion and wonderful food was plenty. You were enjoying company with friends. Life was simple back then and food could bring instant joy.
But honestly true happiness from those occasions was because someone was kind to you. There was a moment to celebrate and company to enjoy.
If you really want to turn emotional eating on its head you need to redesign the way you think about food. Instead of attaching emotion to a food we need to understand control of lasting good emotions is from repeated good choices. So how do we do that? There is three things I would like you to try!
1. Start mindfully eating. Our true relationship with food is what does this food do to us. It is Science. Learn what each food does. And what each food has done to you!
2. Start making positive choices everywhere in your life. If your emotionally eating to try and be happy sit down find some direction and start making positive choices. Try with just one a week. If your struggling get help in the form of a coach, mentor or counsellor. But be the captain of your ship! Your in control!
3. Keep training and exercising. Don t give up on your goals or stop your body moving because you haven’t been able to master your nutrition yet. Healthy habits and nutritional changes take time. Stay focused on the end goal and just make small changes.
I really hope this helps someone.

]]>The post Long Term Fitness Success and bootcamps 2 appeared first on Courage Training Centre.
]]>I think maybe its like trying to learn to swim without ever getting in the deep end. It screams of under commitment. Now don’t misunderstand me I think bootcamps are great when used in the correct manner and they have done great things for millions of people. I myself have run 100’s of bootcamps.
Lets just start to think beyond bootcamps. If you want lasting success and full control over your health and fitness try committing to having yourself coached not for 6 weeks, not for 12 weeks but for 12 months. Find yourself a fitness mentor or coach. Then go ahead and set some goals and plan out a full 12 months. 100% commitment. Tell yourself when you start that giving up is not an option. Adopt a growth mindset.
I absolutely guarantee that this will change your life dramatically for the better.

]]>I see that success in people when they reach the tipping point. When they finally decide to call BULLSHIT on themselves. By that I mean they start thinking critically. “I don’t have time” becomes “I make time”. Most people will say they don’t have time before they have even tried. I don’t have time to me means I was so busy thinking about other things I couldn’t control I never came up with a solution. Now as a coach I see this all the time. I have even in the past eaten food in front of people to show them how silly it is they think they can’t spare a moment to nourish their body properly.
But in all honesty you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. People will try different gyms, trainers, meal plans etc forever blaming other people or circumstances for lack of results. But the time comes when they just call BULLSHIT on themselves. They make it a priority and they quiet their mind of problems and feed it with solutions instead. Here are 5 quick TIPS on things you can do to start calling BULLSHIT on yourself and thinking critically to overcome obstacles in your daily routine!
Now is the time!

]]>Right now as we speak, there is a world full of people with gym memberships and martial arts memberships going to waste. There are literally thousands of people all with the same problem, thinking away to themselves why am I no good at this? How come I can’t like fitness? Why can’t I get good at martial arts? Why am I so uncoordinated?
All these feelings end up in a place where you feel like you’re holding people back, or that you just don’t have the aptitude to be fit and strong or good at martial arts. When the truth is you just don’t have the ATTITUDE. You are just setting yourself up with UNREAL EXPECTATIONS. If you are just starting out in fitness and strength training, the first 2-3 weeks can be super difficult and you will be sore in places that you haven’t felt in years. If you are starting out in martial arts or fitness, you will moving your body in a way that is so foreign that you will feel uncoordinated, when the TRUTH is that you are just untrained. Add to that any adjustments in nutrition and your whole lifestyle has been turned upside down.
This transition is a massive culture shock. Give yourself time, show some COURAGE and perseverance and it will all be worth it. If you can approach your training with a growth mindset, you will find the adjustment easier to deal with.
I CAN LEARN ANYTHING I WANT TO
WHEN I AM FRUSTRATED, I PERSEVERE
I SEEK OUT CHALLENGES
I ACKNOWLEDGE FAILURE AS LESSONS
I WILL GIVE MY BEST EFFORT
I SEEK OUT INSPIRATION
MY ATTITUDE IS POSITIVE
IF I SUCCEED I AIM HIGHER
GIVING UP IS NOT AN OPTION
I hope this helps someone stick to their goals or persevere on the journey for just a little bit longer.
Happy Training,
Coach Bone!

]]>OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
Well it has been a busy month at Courage Training Centre!
We have had guest instructors, begun a new cycle of training, had students compete in a local competition, our kids graded, we launched a social club and started a monthly parents meeting.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the tabata rounds and the 5×5’s the coaches have been handing out.
Well done to Angela and Mark for finishing their scholarships and both losing well over the 6kg goal for the 6 weeks! Amazing effort by both of you.
Plenty of the kids placed in our local competition and we are all super proud of their efforts.
We have another guest Multiple Black Belt Geordie Lavers-McBain coming up in November to help us develop our martial arts programs. I have been busy networking around the country to make sure we are always trying to build you a better centre.
We may also have some new coaches coming over the next twelve months. But do not fear – I will still be on the mat teaching and taking part in the fitness and martial art classes. You will just have more people to gain information and courage from!
Your coaches are always available for free mentoring. If you are letting everything get overwhelming and need help to back into a healthy routine make an appointment and let’s work together to gain momentum back.

The rocket Vacuum is left available so if you are one of the last people to use the room at night, or have had your kids in the room, please take 2 min and give the floor a quick run over and the room a quick tidy.

]]>The post Top 10 reasons to get your kids into Martial Arts appeared first on Courage Training Centre.
]]>1. Martial arts is great for developing healthy and strong bodies in systemised and organised play.
2. Martial arts teaches your children respect. It provides a unique coach-student relationship of goal setting and guidance through physical, mental and emotional goals. This type of two way relationship is where real respect is developed.
3. Martial arts teaches resilience. Martial arts can be confronting and it will challenge your children to face challenging situations with a problem solving mindset.
4. Martial arts teaches goal setting. It is a clear and systemised approach to learning skills with an end goal insight. It is always satisfying to watch your child’s faces light up as they reach the next belt level.
5. Martial arts teaches risk management. Kids need to fall down every now and then and learn to brush themselves off, get up and continue to be involved. Being hurt teaches your children how to manage risks to themselves and their training partners.
6. Martial arts opens up a conversation about bullying. One of the greatest things we can do is to engage our kids in conversations about difficult relationships. It doesn’t just stop at school. If we can empower our children early they will be well ahead of the curve when dealing with difficult people.
7. Martial arts teaches you to move your body. The body mechanics and science behind martial arts can help develop your children’s body awareness and ability to learn other sports.
8. Martial arts teaches sportsmanship. There is a great culture of honour within martial arts. We all want our kids be good sports all of the time so paying respects to your training partners and opponents after fighting with them creates a good awareness of sportsmanship.
9. Martial arts teaches healthy routine. You always feel better after training. It makes sense to have our kids busy all year round with sports. We all need to move our bodies to stay healthy and happy. If we teach them that it is a priority now, you set them up for success later in life.
10. Martial arts provides CONFIDENCE. Ever wanted to feel like a super hero. Martial arts does this like no other sport. It teaches you laser focus, balance and control. Your kids will leave feeling more confident after every grading and every year they train.
I hope this inspires someone to get their kids involved in martial arts!
