London, the capitol of England, is one of those cities that you could spend many months in and only see a fraction of all the sights it has to offer. The largest city in England has an enormous amount of treasure to offer those who choose to visit this fabulous historic city. London has something for everybody. If you are a lover of soccer, otherwise known as football, you can take in a game played by Arsenal, Chelsea or any of the other local English Premier League clubs. If you like concerts, the O2 Arena and the Royal Albert Hall host some of the biggest music acts in the world. The city is also full of some of the top rated restaurants in all of Europe. Before you book your flight, do some research to find London hotels at a discount rate. Here are some of the best sights to see around London.

1. Buckingham Palace

The home of the British royal family for over 160 years, Buckingham Palace is where the world famous changing of the guards takes place on a daily basis. This is a large production where you can see a troop of guards march down the street from their barracks, which are located only a short walk from the palace. A marching band plays along as the guards move in unison. After you are finished watching this, you can take a tour of the palace itself. The architecture is exquisite, as you might imagine it would be. The tour of the palace concludes in the enormous back yard. The palace also features two other areas you can tour, but for a separate admission fee. The first is the royal mews, where you can see all of the various horse-drawn carriages dating back over 100 years to the time of Queen Victoria. You can also visit the royal gallery, which houses the art collection of the British royal family, the largest private art collection in the world.

2. Parliament

The Parliament is the center of the British Government. However, it is much more famous for Big Ben, the clock tower that has told residents the time since 1840. Parliament is open for tours. Visitors can go into the actual chamber where British politicians debate the issues with the Prime Minister. It is quite remarkable to be in the same room where Winston Churchill delivered some of the most important speeches of the 20th century.

3. The British Museum

This natural history museum is so large that is impossible to see it all in one day. It houses some of the most important artifacts in the history of mankind, including a large amount of pieces of the Parthenon, the Rosetta Stone and the Lewis chessman. However, this is only scratching the surface of what the museum contains. The building is like a small city. Ideally, you will need two days in order to thoroughly explore the museum without rushing through everything.

4. The Tate Modern and the Nationally Gallery

The Tate Modern is one of the most renowned modern art museums in all of Europe, if not the world. It routinely hosts exhibits that feature works of art by artists such as Picasso and Dali. The National Gallery features more traditional art by the likes of Rembrandt, Van Gogh and other masters.

With the London Olympics starting tonight with the opening ceremonies, we thought it would be a great time to dig up some never published photos from our archive of Natalie and Britney from our trip to London as part of our 2006 World Tour. We spent a day hanging out with these two beautiful models as we caught many of the sites in this iconic city, and you can see many of the London tourist spots in the background.

The first group of photos have Natalie and Britney hanging out in a classic London phone booth. Naturally these things are obsolete these days but in London they blend in as part of the beautiful architecture and scenery. We spent a lot of time in Soho so many of the photos from the first have of slideshow above are from that trendy part of town.

We made our way down to Parliament and got some nice shots in the park nearby. Later in the evening, the girls changed into heels and dresses and we went out in an area near London Bridge. The photos at dusk with the bridge in the background are great, and you can see one below with others in the slideshow.

We finish it up with the girls having fun posing in a London taxi, otherwise known as a hackney carriage. These classic taxi cabs are another site you’ll see all around this classic city.

If you’re in London for the Olympic Games we’re sure you’ll enjoy it. It’s one of the great cities of the world and we loved our time there. English food isn’t very good, but as a world-class city London has amazing restaurants, particularly excellent Indian food and amazing sushi. That said, the city is incredibly expensive. Don’t bother going unless you have a real budget, as everything from hotels, food and taxis are ridiculously expensive.

This story is getting plenty of play today, as it should. Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band capped off a marathon show in Hyde Park in London by inviting Paul McCartney on stage. They ripped through “I Saw Her Standing There” and then moved on to “Twist and Shout” when all of the mikes were cut off. Apparently they had gone beyond the curfew and someone decided it was time to end the show. What a shame.

Travel to Europe in the summer has gotten to be so expensive that more people are taking advantage of lower fall airfares and enjoying cities like London this time of year.

I’m a huge fan of the Soho area as it’s very eclectic with nightlife as well, and it’s a short walk to Piccadilly Circus.

The shot above is of the Natural History Museum in Kensington. This is a great area to enjoy is you stay in one of the Kensington hotels. The area is elegant with a ton of culture, referred to by some as“London’s Museum Quarter.” In South Kensington you’ll some great museums like the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum.

For something different you can check out the Kings Cross hotels. Here you’ll be centrally located and it’s convenient if you want to explore the whole city.

It gets colder this time of year so make sure to check the weather and pack accordingly, but there’s definitely some charm to being in London this time of year. You’ll also avoid all the crowds, and this can be a great romantic trip as well if you’re looking for something other than your standard tropical fare.
