I fell back into my old buying habits in a very bad way last year. I bought far more equipment than I had a right to. So out went two guitars (one electric and one acoustic), the Fender Blues Jr., and an Epiphone EB-3 I had picked up on a whim in Orlando.

I want to focus my attention on playing bass. I will hang onto the Gretsch G5420T and the Squier Thinline Telecaster just to have the versatility of both HH and SS configurations.

My basses are stable with the Squier Precision and the SBMM Ray34CA.

One Month After the Gear Purge

It has been just over a month since I sold off the majority of my musical equipment. Two amplifiers, three guitars, and a bass. I am less bothered by it that I thought I would be. So, I guess that means the things were not what is important. This is highlighted further by the fact that I did not use them as I should. It was about “the hunt” it was about acquiring cool stuff. This is bad.

Looking more forward to taking pictures of the gear and posting them on message boards than to practicing. That’s bad. Looking at the same Facebook Marketplace ads for guitars, amps, and basses over and over again. But not using what I already have. That’s bad.

None of this is to say that we cannot have things, it is when the things become the thing, and that is where I am continually off track. That is where I keep putting everything ahead of Jesus Christ.

Another “Gear Purge” Has Been Executed

About two weeks ago, I found myself in exactly the same situation I was in last fall. Buying things, being unhappy with them. I’ve sold nearly everything. Three guitars, three basses, two amplifiers all in the space of about two weeks.

As it turns out, the timing was good (God’s timing is always perfect) as we had our air conditioning go out so the money came in handy.

I have kept the Ray34 and the Squier Thinline Telecaster.
