Linux Mint 18 works very well on my 32 bit systems and from the DVD on my 64 bit system. Hpe to install it soon on the 64 bit system.

Mint 18 is the greatest! Installed it on a system with Mint 17 & XP, so I have 3 items at boot time. Also, have it as a single entry on another system. It went in very smoothly. I am going to install it on my Win 7 system very soon. My old HP LJ4 printer (ethernet connected) and my new HP OfficeJet (Wifi) 3830 were found without any problems too.

I’ve found a few issues with the beta 64-bit iso. The system is a Dell Inspiron Model #3847, with 4th generation Core i5-4460 processor, 8G Ram, 1.0T SATA Hard drive. I have done “$sudo apt update; $sudo apt upgrade”, installed all updates, and rebooted as of Tue Aug 2 01:54:16 UTC 2016.

1) When I click the “Shutdown” or “Reboot” buttons from the login screen, the system screen goes blank, and does *NOT* proceed to either shutdown or reboot. However, once I’m logged into the Xfce desktop, clicking Shutdown or Restart on the “Logout ‘user'” dialog, the system WILL actually either Shutdown or Restart, as appropriate.

2) I installed google Chrome, and have gone into preferred applications & selected google Chrome as my default browser. I use Thunderbird to read my emil. When I click on URL links in my email, the link opens in Firefox.

Other than these minor quirks, I’m rather impressed with the beta.

Important note!

To fix qt look and feel you need to install libqt5libqgtk2 package! Ship it by default please 🙂

In both Xfce and MATE editions, LibreOffice menu-bar will not adjust its text according to the size of a larger Default Font (Settings -> Appearance -> Fonts -> Default Font).

thanks for XFCE! I am using the 32-bit release on old Acer laptops with 1GB or 2GB, where it is mostly working very well…

but I am having issues with hibernate; more on that some other time.

One annoying problem, that is even when running LiveUSB, the wireless connect doesn’t wait for the password to be typed but times out in less than 30-seconds, and doesn’t try after the password is completed.

I did 2 upgrades on separate hard drives from LM17 to 18 Mate 64, then with some free space left over I did a clean install of 18 XFCE Beta. All good except sound not working on 1 of the Mate drives, but the other is ok. This Beta is running faster than the others with no issues, so probably a clean install of anything is the way to go. When I get a new HDD, I will make XFCE the default. Sorry to see Opera missing from the software manager. So far this beta is great, will keep using. Thank you for all your hard work, much appreciated.
How do you say XFCE in English?

I see many questions here as comments, maybe try the forum to find answer. (my 2 cents worth)

Have installed Mint in a partition, looks good but I can’t, for the life of me, get the wi-fi working. What do I need to do?
