Mark Boyle Moneyless Man https://anandamarga.co.uk/occupylondonsx/2012/01/23/mark-boyle-moneyless-man/ Mon, 23 Jan 2012 17:00:06 +0000 http://anandamarga.co.uk/occupylondonsx/?p=175 Continue reading →]]> I had the chance to listen to Mark, he discussed various aspects of PROUT during his talk at the Bank Of Ideas Saturday 7th January:
Helping others for no rewards – don’t need to be paid for everything. You can be happy helping each other. In fact happier than when working for a paid job.
Some paid jobs can be boring, have you ever thought how many people got involved? By buying the product you’re supporting that persons menial work.
Resource sharing – no need to be greedy and selfish with your food/equipment, you can share
Maximum utilisation of food and resources – if you grow your own food you will be more careful not to waste it
Caring of our local environment – how come you send your personal waste into the sewage system. Do you understand what happens? Would you want to mix waste and fresh water if you had to maintain your own water?
Democracy – If you aren’t happy with the government/supermarkets/oil industry as long as you’re still shopping and supporting them, they will continue in their unethical ways.

Mark also mentioned an easy option of life is to remain part of the system and conveniently shop for produce, there are many questions you have to ask yourself:

  • where does the produce come from?
  • what happens to the money?
  • how much fossil fuels were used for transport of the goods?
  • what will happen if the food can’t be transported in the future? – growing local has cost and environmental advantages than flying food from around the world

Ideas were mentioned from Mark, the audience and Nick Rosen:
Urban Harvest http://www.urbanharvest.org.uk to find and share food – which could have been wasted
Land Share http://www.landshare.net Landshare brings together people who have a passion for home-grown food, connecting those who have land to share with those who need land for cultivating food.
