Effects of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment-Guided Interventions on Physical Performance and quality of Life in Older Patients with Advanced Cancer & Assessment of Sarcopenia Measures, Survival, and Disability in Older Adults

Learning Objectives:

1. To evaluate whether comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA)-guided interventions, when added to standard oncological care, can prevent declines in physical performance and quality of life in older patients with frailty initiating palliative treatment

2. To determine the impact of CGA on physical performance, and its potential benefits for improving outcomes in this vulnerable patient population.

3. To examine the rate of decline of sarcopenia measures in older adults with cancer both before and after the cancer diagnosis compared with the trajectory of a population without cancer

4. To assess the association of sarcopenia measures with overall survival and major disability in patients with cancer

The International Ultmann Chicago Lymphoma Symposium (IUCLS) is an annual conference dedicated solely to the science and clinical care of lymphoma. It has been organized to honor the achievements of Dr. John Ultmann, a pioneer in the treatment of lymphoma, who devoted his life to the understanding of this disease. He was particularly known for his work on the staging of Hodgkin lymphoma and the utility of staging as a guide for treatment.

We are fortunate to have a multitude of the world’s experts in lymphoma speak each year at the conference. The audience is comprised of regional practicing oncologists, advanced nurse practitioners and physician assistants, residents, fellows, and the Chicago academic community that includes five academic centers.

This is a certified continuing medical education (CME) activity that focuses on the biologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. This year’s meeting will be a 2-day live meeting to discuss recent updates in the care of patients with solid and hematologic malignancies.

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

Debate the selection and sequencing of the latest advances to the treatment of patients with indolent and aggressive forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma;
Assess the safety and efficacy of current and emerging therapeutic approaches for the care of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma;
Evaluate clinical trial data of current and emerging cellular therapy/CAR T-cell approaches for patients with lymphoma, including important safety and efficacy data;
Review specific patient and disease-related factors that may impact therapeutic decisions for patients with newly diagnosed and previously treated CLL;
Acquire strategies to communicate with and utilize the entire multidisciplinary team during the continuum of care of patients with lymphoma.

This activity will enhance participants’ knowledge base of common pediatric conditions and increase their confidence in managing these issues by providing a review of basic principles of pediatric care. Particular attention will be paid to psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, abdominal pain, reflux, and asthma guidelines diagnosis.
