Led by Senior Tourism Operations Officer Renelyn Villegas-Enriquez and Kenneth Lorenz Ruedas, the DOT delegation met with Governor Aris Aumentado and Bohol Provincial Tourism Office Head Joanne Pinat to discuss initiatives that will support local government units in crafting tourism development plans tailored to their respective communities.
A key topic was the conduct of Local Tourism Development Planning, which aims to equip local tourism officers with the tools and guidance needed to formulate tourism strategies that reflect local priorities and opportunities.
The initiative is expected to help municipalities identify and maximize their unique tourism assets while ensuring sustainable growth, a priority of the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh).
This supports Bohol’s agenda as the Philippines’ first and only UNESCO Global Geopark, where it continues to position itself as a destination more than its iconic natural attractions.
The discussion also led to the exploration of opportunities in strengthening tourism circuits, creating new travel routes that will link Bohol with other destinations across the country, and diversifying tourism offerings that encourage visitors to spend more time in the province.
Governor Aumentado expressed hope for increased air connectivity that would link Bohol to more domestic destinations, including Siargao and Boracay.
He emphasized that improved accessibility would help broaden tourism opportunities and make inter-island travel more convenient for visitors.
Furthermore, the governor also highlighted the province’s growing sports tourism sector, noting that Bohol has successfully hosted major sporting events.

]]>The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, conducted an Animal Clinic and Techno Updating activity on February 19, 2026, in Purok 2 and Purok 3, Barangay Kagawasan, Sagbayan.
Through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV), in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Sagbayan and allied agencies, the initiative aimed to strengthen livestock production by delivering essential veterinary services and enhancing farmers’ technical knowledge.
A total of 32 farmers participated in the activity, receiving updated information on Artificial Insemination (A.I.) and Animal Conditioning to improve breeding efficiency, herd productivity, and animal health management.
Veterinary services were provided to 68 animals, composed of 42 cattle, 19 goats, and 7 carabaos. Of these, 66 animals underwent deworming, while all 68 were administered vitamin injections to boost resistance and overall health.

]]>Bohol intensified its climate adaptation and disaster preparedness initiatives through the activation of the Task Force El Niño Comprehensive Action Plan, discussed during the May 22, 2026, episode of The Capitol Reports held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
The discussion focused on strengthening provincial preparedness measures against the projected impacts of El Niño, including food security risks, water resource management, public health concerns, agricultural productivity, and environmental sustainability, in support of the Capitol’s Strategic Governance Roadmap.
Under Executive Order No. 20, Series of 2026, the Task Force El Niño Program aimed at protecting communities, livelihoods, and local economic stability while preserving Bohol’s ecological heritage under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado.
Leading the discussion were Leonardo Samar, head of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Bohol; Gertrudes Fuentes, Supervising Agriculturist and Crops Division Head of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA); and Dr. Anthony Damalerio, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Samar emphasized that PAGASA continues to closely monitor the possible development of El Niño conditions, noting that there is now a 79 percent probability of occurrence from June to August, which may persist until early next year.
He explained that the province may experience drier-than-usual conditions, delayed onset of the rainy season, and prolonged dry spells that could negatively affect agriculture, marine resources, water supply, public health, and the environment.
Samar stressed the importance of timely and accurate dissemination of weather information to ensure communities are properly guided and prepared for the impacts of climate variability.
Fuentes shared that immediately after PAGASA’s advisory, the OPA started formulating mitigation and intervention measures to help farmers and fisherfolk cope with the looming El Niño phenomenon and rising agricultural production costs.
She highlighted several proposed interventions, including organic fertilizer assistance, irrigation system support, cloud seeding operations, seed storage facilities, farm reservoir construction, stem plasm facilities for local seed preservation, crop diversification programs, and mass propagation of indigenous root crops such as cassava and sweet potato.
Fuentes also noted that the OPA continues to maintain available planting materials for drought-resistant crops accessible to farmers across the province.
She further encouraged households to practice backyard gardening by planting vegetables, indigenous root crops, and drought-resistant commodities, even through container gardening methods, to help strengthen household food security.
Damalerio emphasized that the provincial government convened the Task Force El Niño early this year to strengthen preparations and level up interventions in anticipation of severe dry conditions and other global factors that may affect response operations.
He reported that ₱5 million has been allocated for cloud seeding operations, while emergency response teams and technical working groups continue refining contingency plans for extreme heat conditions and future La Niña preparations.
Damalerio also assured that the province’s eight major irrigation dam systems remain stable and are not yet at critical levels, although continuous monitoring is being conducted to assess possible impacts on rice production, tourism, and local economic activities.
The PDRRMO continues province-wide dissemination of weather updates and heat index advisories to ensure the public remains informed and prepared even before the onset of El Niño.
He also called on the public to immediately practice water conservation as part of the province’s collective response against the possible impacts of El Niño.
“We encourage everyone to please join the call to conserve water because this phenomenon will affect not just individual persons, but all of us,” Damalerio said.
He emphasized that a united and immediate effort from all sectors is necessary to ensure a sufficient water supply once the dry season intensifies.
“We need a united, concerted effort from all sectors, and the call is to conserve water, not tomorrow, not in the next days, not in the next weeks, and not in the next month. The call is to start now, conserve water, so that we will have more supply when this El Niño hits the Province of Bohol,” he added.

Carrying the theme, “Where Arts Speak for Nature: Express. Protect. Sustain,” the program features workshops and learning sessions designed to develop participants’ artistic talents while strengthening their appreciation of Bohol’s cultural heritage and its connection to environmental stewardship.

The executive learning session brought together Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores of Aklan, Governor Rogelio Neil Roque of Bukidnon, Governor Raul Mabanglo of Davao de Oro, Governor James Edduba of Kalinga, and Governor Sharee Ann Delos Santos of Samar.
Through the Bridging Leadership program, participating governors deepened their understanding of climate and disaster resilience while enhancing their capacity to address complex development challenges and explore collaborative strategies for building safer, more adaptive, and resilient communities.
Highlighting the activity was the results presentation from the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Assessment, a specialized planning and scoping assessment used by local governments in the Philippines to enhance climate resilience.
Furthermore, the session also provided a platform for local chief executives to assess the current state of resilience in their respective provinces, identify opportunities for transformation, and develop innovative solutions that safeguard lives, livelihoods, and development gains amid increasing climate and disaster risks.

This is made possible with the Governance for Climate and Disaster Resilience (Gov-CDR), a six-year project running from March 2024 to March 2030, funded by the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and implemented by Alinea International.
The project works with local government units (LGUs) and communities in the Philippines to strengthen their capacity to assess risks and natural hazards, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from related disasters and the adverse effects of climate change.
It also emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration, collective action, and transformative leadership in advancing long-term resilience and sustainable development across Philippine communities.
Through the technical assistance of the Gov-CDR Project, the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) completed the CCDRA for Balicasag Island and the Loboc River Tourism System, building resiliency in both highly climate-fragile and significant tourism systems.
The conduct of CCDRA is both timely and highly beneficial as Bohol strives to become more proactive and responsive to the growing impacts of climate change and the demands of the tourism industry.
Governor Aumentado’s participation reflects the PGBh’s continuing commitment to strengthening climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development under its Strategic Governance Roadmap.

]]>The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), presided over by Vice Governor Nick Besas, referred several municipal ordinances, communications, and requests to appropriate committees during its regular session on June 5, 2026, reinforcing its role in reviewing local legislation and addressing provincial concerns.
Through an omnibus motion introduced by Floor Leader Board Member Tita Baja, the SP referred 14 municipal ordinances and budget measures from various local government units to the Committee on Review of Municipal Ordinances and Related Issuances for evaluation and recommendation.
Water Permit Applications Referred
The SP also tackled several communications from the National Water Resources Board concerning water permit applications filed by the municipalities of Inabanga, Antequera, and Balilihan.
During deliberations, Board Member Venzencio Arcamo explained that while similar requests had previously been automatically posted by the SP Secretariat, concerns raised by the provincial government warranted a legal review.
Consequently, the water permit application involving Inabanga was referred to the Provincial Legal Office, while the remaining applications were endorsed to the Committee on Public Utilities and Franchises.
The committee was likewise tasked to review a request from the National Power Corporation regarding the Energy Regulatory Commission’s public consultation for its Photovoltaic Mainstreaming and Solar Home System projects in missionary areas.
Partnerships and Development Initiatives
The SP referred a proposed Memorandum of Agreement between the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh) and the Bohol Association of Non-Government Organizations, Inc. (BANGON) for the implementation of the ASPIRE Project to the Committees on Public Utilities and Franchises and Cooperatives, NGOs, POs and CSOs.
Meanwhile, a request for authority to sign a Memorandum of Agreement between the Provincial Government and the National Committee on Geological Sciences was referred to the Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
Support for Livelihood Assistance Program
The SP approved Committee Report No. 2026-02 and subsequently passed Resolution No. 2026-595, authorizing Governor Erico Aristotle ‘Aris’ C. Aumentado to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with iSupport Bohol Organization, Inc.
The agreement covers livelihood assistance amounting to ₱351,645.95 for a General Merchandise Project intended to provide economic opportunities for HIV volunteers and persons living with HIV in Bohol.
Committee Chairperson Board Member Lucille Lagunay explained that the organization underwent assessment by the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development and that safeguards, monitoring mechanisms, and accountability measures were incorporated into the revised agreement.

Study on Mining Impacts Ordered
The SP likewise adopted Committee Report No. 2026-03 and approved Resolution No. 2026-596 directing a comprehensive environmental study on potential hazards arising from mining activities in Garcia Hernandez.
The recommendation stemmed from discussions involving Bohol Limestone Corporation and concerned government agencies regarding the company’s mining operations and the renewal of its Mineral Production Sharing Agreement.
Committee findings showed that the corporation’s renewed permit remains valid and that it is not required to register with the Board of Investments to continue mining operations.
However, members stressed the need for a more thorough assessment of environmental impacts and public safety concerns.
The study will be undertaken by the Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Protection in collaboration with the Committees on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction and Ways and Means.
Local Measures Reviewed
The SP also adopted Committee Report No. 2026-13 of the Committee on Review of Municipal Ordinances and Related Issuances.
The report covered 12 measures from various local government units involving annual and supplemental budgets, job order compensation, fuel subsidy programs, food voucher initiatives, business permit systems, tourism regulations, and assistance for barangay health workers and nutrition scholars.
Following the committee’s recommendations, the SP approved Resolutions Nos. 2026-597 to 2026-606, declaring several ordinances and appropriation measures operative, allowable, or valid.
Two measures were returned to the concerned local government units for further refinement and compliance with legal and administrative requirements.
Supplemental Budget Approved
The SP likewise approved Committee Report No. 2026-05 of the Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriations, leading to the passage of Appropriation Ordinance No. 2026-012.
The ordinance approves Supplemental Budget No. 4, Series of 2026, amounting to ₱45.517 million to fund priority programs, projects, and services of the Provincial Government of Bohol.
The budget includes allocations for development initiatives, personnel requirements, hospital services, infrastructure support, employment programs, and other provincial priorities.
The SP continues to process local legislation, development initiatives, partnership agreements, and policy measures aimed at strengthening governance, environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and public service delivery across the province, anchored with its Strategic Governance Roadmap.

]]>Municipal tourism officers strengthened tourism development strategies, geopark initiatives, and biodiversity conservation efforts during the Second Municipal Tourism Officers’ Forum 2026 held at Reyna’s The Haven and Gardens on June 4.
The forum gathered municipal tourism officers and tourism stakeholders from across Bohol to discuss programs aimed at sustaining the province’s tourism industry, one of its primary economic drivers, while advancing sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
In her welcome address, Bohol Provincial Tourism Office representative Ava Cagampang underscored the importance of collaboration among local government units (LGUs) in strengthening tourism programs and ensuring the continued growth of the sector.
A major agenda item was the presentation of the proposed Countryside Tour Circuits for Bohol’s 2nd District. The proposal seeks to develop three tourism circuits involving all 14 municipalities in the district to enhance countryside tourism and diversify visitor experiences. The initiative will be presented to local chief executives for support and implementation.
The forum also featured updates on the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark and its upcoming UNESCO revalidation mission. Geopark office representative Mary Lou Regis emphasized the critical role of every LGU in achieving a successful revalidation, noting that all municipalities contribute to the geological, cultural, and natural heritage narrative of Bohol.
Regis encouraged LGUs to strengthen geo-education programs, promote sustainable tourism practices, support climate action and resilience initiatives, preserve cultural heritage, empower local communities, and improve monitoring and reporting of geopark-related activities. She also discussed the use of Information, Education, and Communication materials and addressed frequently asked questions regarding the geopark.
The discussions also reinforced the Strategic Change Agenda of Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, which promotes sustainable tourism development anchored on environmental protection, climate resilience, cultural preservation, and inclusive economic growth.
Tourism officials echoed Gov. Aumentado’s continuing reminder that economic progress must always be balanced with environmental conservation to ensure that Bohol’s natural assets remain protected for future generations. The governor has also consistently advocated for expanding tourism opportunities beyond the province’s traditional destinations, encouraging municipalities to develop unique attractions and experiences that allow visitors to discover and experience Bohol beyond the brochures.
Representatives from the province’s three congressional districts likewise presented tourism development priorities. First District LGUs outlined their proposed 2027 Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs), which include tourism infrastructure, destination promotion, and service enhancement initiatives.
Meanwhile, Third District representatives presented priority tourism training needs, major attraction sites proposed for inclusion in the Bohol Eastern Paradise Tour Packages, and the Casino-Free Bohol Manifesto of Support, which advocates the preservation of Bohol’s cultural values, community welfare, and sustainable tourism development.
During the forum, tourism officials also reminded LGUs to submit pending tourism reports to facilitate the consolidation and documentation of tourism-related activities across the province.
The forum concluded with a presentation on Biodiversity Conservation Awareness and Sustainable Development by Dr. Reizl P. Jose, who highlighted the role of biodiversity in maintaining environmental sustainability, preserving cultural heritage, enhancing tourism experiences, and supporting community livelihoods.
Jose discussed biodiversity conservation challenges, current environmental threats, and the importance of research and environmental education in promoting conservation awareness. She also presented her work on bat research and storytelling, demonstrating how scientific findings can be transformed into engaging educational and tourism materials.
She encouraged tourism stakeholders to adopt research-based storytelling and biodiversity-centered tourism initiatives, emphasizing that conservation and sustainable tourism must go hand in hand to ensure the long-term viability of Bohol’s tourism industry.

]]>The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV), announced a major regulatory update benefiting poultry raisers following sustained negative results from Avian Influenza (AI) surveillance across Central Visayas.
The province, in coordination with the Department of Agriculture—Regional Field Office VII (DA-RFO VII), local government units, and poultry stakeholders, has maintained its favorable Avian Influenza status after continued monitoring and surveillance activities showed no detection of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in the region.
BAI Issues Temporary Waiver on Testing Requirements
With the sustained negative results, the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) issued Memorandum Circular No. 25, Series of 2026, on May 29, 2026, which temporarily waives Avian Influenza laboratory testing per shipment for live poultry, other bird species, eggs, poultry products, and by-products (except live ducks) originating from Region VII.
The waiver covers local movement of poultry commodities and will remain in effect until September 23, 2026, subject to compliance with existing animal health and regulatory standards.
Benefits for Poultry Stakeholders
The OPV, led by Officer-In-Charge Dr. Meydallyn Paman, emphasized that this development is a result of strong surveillance systems and collaboration among stakeholders. Poultry raisers are expected to benefit from:
A. Reduced transport-related testing requirements
B. Lower transaction costs and faster processing of shipments
C. Improved market access and smoother movement of poultry products
Strict Biosecurity Still Required
Despite the temporary relief, the OPV clarified that the waiver applies only to Avian Influenza testing per shipment. It does not exempt shippers, traders, and transporters from complying with other veterinary quarantine, inspection, shipping, documentary, and regulatory requirements.
Likewise, existing provincial entry protocols and biosecurity measures in Bohol remain strictly enforced unless amended through official issuances.
Sustaining a Disease-free Status
Authorities stressed that continuous compliance with biosecurity measures, disease reporting, and surveillance activities remains crucial to maintaining the region’s AI-free status.
The PGBh, under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, also expressed its gratitude to DA-RFO VII, LGUs, city and municipal veterinary and agriculture offices, poultry raisers, and all partners for their sustained cooperation in protecting poultry health, farmer livelihoods, and food security in Central Visayas, especially in Bohol, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The issuance is anchored on DA Memorandum Circular No. 25, Series of 2026, aligned with national guidelines on animal movement and disease control, reinforcing the importance of sustained surveillance and coordinated response systems in safeguarding the poultry industry, a priority aligning PGBh’s Strategic Change Agenda. ]]>Bohol continues to strengthen its youth empowerment and sports development initiatives through sustained investments in grassroots sports programs and athlete development, highlighted during the June 5, 2026, episode of The Capitol Reports held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Provincial Capitol.
The discussion focused on Bohol’s achievements in the recently concluded 2026 Palarong Pambansa in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, where athletes from the province played a significant role in helping Region VII (Central Visayas) secure fourth place in the overall rankings.
The episode underscored how the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Governor Aris Aumentado, continues to promote sports excellence through its strong partnership with DepEd Bohol, the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), and the Education Development Center (EdCenter), providing young athletes with opportunities, resources, and support systems necessary to compete at the highest level.
Leading the discussion were PYDO Head and Supervising Administrative Officer of the Office of the Governor, Metodio Maraguinot Jr.; DepEd Bohol Division Sports Officer Dr. Juan Torregosa; and Palarong Pambansa gold medalists Gwen Diaz, Kristina Concepcion Belano, KC Mae Gamayon, and Jhull Ian Cañalita.
Among the highlights of Bohol’s campaign was the historic performance of Cañalita of Tabuan National High School in Garcia Hernandez, who captured two gold medals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run while setting new Palarong Pambansa records in both events.
Maraguinot described the achievement as one of the province’s most remarkable athletic accomplishments, noting that Cañalita broke a record that had stood for 27 years.
He added that the young athlete’s feat reflects years of dedication, discipline, and support from coaches, family members, schools, and the provincial sports development program.
Cañalita shared that months of intensive training, discipline, and endurance were necessary to prepare for the national competition.
Despite his record-breaking performance, he said he remains committed to improving further as he targets higher-level competitions in the future.
Belano of Calape National High School secured two gold medals in Chess Blitz and Chess Standard, while Gamayon of Mayor Pablo O. Lim Memorial High School in Valencia won gold in the Secondary Girls Pin Weight Category of Arnis.
Diaz of Mater Dei College-Tubigon also brought honor to the province after capturing gold in the Secondary Girls High Jump event.
The athletes shared their respective journeys toward success, highlighting the challenges they overcame through perseverance, discipline, and determination.
They also expressed gratitude to their coaches, families, schools, and supporters who helped them throughout their preparations.
Torregosa emphasized that the success of Boholano athletes is the result of strong collaboration among schools, coaches, parents, local government units, and the PGBh.
He likewise acknowledged the support of PGBh in funding the athletes’ 30-day centralized training, which played a crucial role in their preparation for the national competition.
Maraguinot further outlined the province’s sports development initiatives, including the “One Sport, One Town” program, sports clinics in barangays, strengthened athlete recruitment through the Boholympics, and scholarship reforms designed to retain and support promising young athletes.
He explained that producing champions is not an overnight process but requires years of investment, qualified coaches, appropriate facilities, and a comprehensive sports ecosystem that nurtures talent from the grassroots level.
Bohol concluded its Palarong Pambansa campaign with six gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals, reflecting the province’s growing strength in sports and commitment to youth development, a priority under the Strategic Governance Roadmap.
Maraguinot acknowledged the collective efforts of the various stakeholders in nurturing Boholano athletes.
“It really takes a whole province to raise a champion,” Maraguinot underscored.
