Visababishi vya tatizo hili ni kama vifuatavyo;
Viashiria vya tatizo hili ni;

  1. Urinalysis – Kipimo cha mkojo
  2. Urine for culture and sensitivity - Kipimo cha kuangalia bakteria kwenye mkojo

Vichagizi vya tatizo hili ni;
Angalizo:-mgonjwa Atahitaji Kumuona Daktari Ili Apate Tiba Stahiki  Kulingana Na Chanzo Cha Tatizo La Kutoka  Usaha  Wakati Wa Kukojoa

Comment   Translate Page

Illinois Senate recap: Scott’s Law awareness measure advances      Comment   Translate Page
SPRINGFIELD – In light of an increase in accidents and deaths to Illinois State Police troopers, the state Senate on Friday passed a measure to increase awareness of “Scott’s Law,” which requires drivers to slow down and switch lanes when they see flashing emergency lights.

Senate Bill 947, sponsored by Republican Chapin Rose of Mahomet, passed the Senate unanimously. The bill provides that renewal notices from the secretary of state’s office will advise drivers of how to properly approach a stopped emergency vehicle.

The bill also requires the driver’s license test to include a question concerning safe driving when approaching authorized emergency vehicles.

Here’s a quick look at other legislation passed by the Senate on Friday:

SEXUAL PHOTOS: State Sen. Melinda Bush passed Senate Bill 1507, which would give greater protections to people harmed by having sexual images of them disseminated without their consent. It also applies to the threatened dissemination of those images.

The bill gives victims a cause of action under specified circumstances. The bill also allows a victim to use a pseudonym or redacted name in court.

Under the bill, an action for a nonconsensual dissemination may not be brought after four years from the date the dissemination was discovered.

The bill passed 55-0.

POTHOLE DATABASE: Sen. Dan McConchie’s Senate Bill 958, which passed the Senate, would create a statewide database for reporting potholes.

McConchie, of Hawthorn Woods, said Chicago has had such a site for several years and it has been successful in helping the city repair troublesome portions of road.

The bill instructs the Department of Transportation to create a website on which motorists may report potholes, roadway maintenance issues, and other roadway dangers.

The reports would be forwarded to the appropriate department district or unit of local government. The bill passed unanimously.

McConchie also unanimously passed Senate Bill 1090, which requires the attorney general to compile data concerning Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility violations. The information would be posted to the AG’s website.

FIRST RESPONDER SUICIDE PREVENTION: State Sen. Terry Link’s Senate Bill 730 would create the First Responders Suicide Prevention Act. The bill requires training programs for police to recognize signs of work-related cumulative stress and other related issues that might lead to suicide, and offer appropriate solutions for intervention.

The bill would also provide that emergency services personnel may refer any person to an employee assistance program or peer support counselor if those services are not available within the agency.

The bill also provides that minimum in-service training requirements, which a police officer must satisfactorily complete every three years, shall include officer wellness.

Link said the bill would see further amendments in the House, and it passed 52-0.

SCHOOL SAFETY: State Sen. Tony Munoz, a Chicago Democrat, advanced Senate Bill 1658, allowing the State Board of Education to award grants to school districts to support school safety and security, subject to appropriations or private donations.

These grant funds could be used for school security improvements, including professional development, safety-related upgrades to school buildings, equipment, including metal detectors and x-ray machines, and facilities, including school-based health centers.

The bill also requires ISBE to prioritize the distribution of grants to school districts designated as Tier 1 or Tier 2 under the evidence-based funding formula – or districts that are further from funding adequacy. The bill passed unanimously.

PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT: State Sen. Chuck Weaver’s Senate Bill 1042 passed the Senate, allowing home-rule municipalities to abate property taxes for a newly remodeled home located in a blighted area. It passed unanimously.

OUT-OF-TOWN COMMISSIONER: State Sen. Andy Manar, a Bunker Hill Democrat, passed Senate Bill 756, allowing a township board of trustees with populations less than 500 to appoint a non-resident highway commissioner or to contract with a neighboring township if the district is within a township with no incorporated town and no qualified candidate living in the township steps forward.

RACIAL IMPACT NOTE: State Sen. Kimberly Lightford, a Maywood Democrat, passed Senate Bill 1485 to create the “Racial Impact Note Act” on legislation, similar to existing notes such as those for financial impact.

The bill provides that every bill “which has or could have a disparate impact on racial and ethnic minorities,” can have a racial impact note filed by request of a member.

The note will be a “brief explanatory statement or note that shall include a reliable estimate of the anticipated impact on those racial and ethnic minorities likely to be impacted by the bill.”

The bill also prohibits racial discrimination and harassment by state officers and employees, and provides that each state officer and employee shall annually complete a racial bias, discrimination and harassment training program approved by the appropriate jurisdictional authority.

Introduction
SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) Diving is becoming increasingly popular, with an estimated 306 million dives made in the United States between 2006 and 2015.[1] During that same time there were 658 diving deaths in the United States and nearly 14,000 emergency department (ED) visits.[1] While the pathophysiology underlying many diving injuries is complex, the basic treatments for many life-threatening diving injuries are the same (Figure 1). It is important to understand the relatively simple therapies that underlie appropriate care for these injuries.[2,3]

Pathophysiology
The underlying pathophysiologic process of nearly all diving is the compression or expansion of trapped gasses within the human body. Injuries can be further subdivided into either barotraumatic injuries or decompression illness (DCI). Barotrauma refers to tissue damage which occurs when a gas filled cavity rapidly changes volume, most commonly affecting the respiratory system as well as the air-filled portions of the ear.[2]

DCI, on the other hand, is caused by dissolved gasses forming trapped bubbles within the tissues. When a diver breathes compressed air at depth, the partial pressures of gasses dissolved in the blood and tissues increases. Under normal conditions, a diver ascends slowly, allowing the dissolved gasses to diffuse from the tissues and escape via exhalation. However, in the case of rapid ascent, the trapped gasses expand, forming bubbles throughout the body, most commonly the large joints.[3]

Considerations in the History, Physical Exam, and Initial Investigations
Diagnosis of SCUBA diving injuries is primarily clinical, based on characteristic findings during the history and physical exam. The chief complaint will typically indicate the organ system involved and specific care must be taken to specify the timing of symptom onset (i.e. descent, ascent, or after ascent). Important historical considerations include dive information (i.e. depth), type of gas used, recent travel, trauma, or stings during the dive, as well as past medical history including lung and neurological diseases. A focused physical exam should always include careful auscultation of the lungs and a thorough neurological exam. While labs and imaging are not always necessary to confirm the diagnosis, they are recommended for all patients with suspected decompression illness or cardiopulmonary symptoms.[2] Initial investigations may include a chest x-ray, electrocardiogram, complete blood count, cardiac enzymes, and serum electrolytes.[2]

Management Pearls

Figure 1.  Management of SCUBA diving injuries algorithm

All Patients
The Diver Alert Network (DAN) operates a 24/7 expert hotline for health care workers, and should be contacted for specific advice whenever a diver with a serious injury presents in the ED. The number is +1-919-684-9111.

Ear Barotrauma
Ear complaints occur during descent and are the most common disorder experienced among divers.[2] Patients may present with pain, tinnitus, hearing loss, vertigo, or facial nerve palsy. It is imperative to differentiate inner ear barotrauma from middle or outer ear barotrauma.[2]

Inner ear barotrauma occurs with rupture of the round or oval windows, and results in sensorineural hearing loss with profound vertigo. A Weber test (tuning fork in the middle of the forehead) will be quieter on the affected side. A Rinne Test (tuning fork held next to the pinna then touching affected mastoid bone) will show equally diminished sound conduction via bone and air, indicating sensorineural hearing loss. Inner ear barotrauma can result in permanent hearing loss secondary to structural damage to the cochleovestibular system and thus requires urgent ENT evaluation.[2,4]

By contrast, isolated middle or outer ear barotrauma is not a medical emergency. These can be diagnosed with simple otoscopic evaluation – middle ear barotrauma will present with an erythematous or ruptured tympanic membrane with conductive hearing loss, while outer ear barotrauma is characterized by petechiae in the ear canal without hearing loss. The treatment for both is analgesia and urgent outpatient follow-up with a primary physician.[2,4] In the case of a ruptured tympanic membrane, ciprofloxacin 0.2% auricular solution can be used to prevent infection.

Decompression Illness (DCI)
Symptoms of DCI develop soon after ascent, often within one hour and almost always within the first 24 hours.[3] Most commonly (68% of cases), bubbles emerge within the connective tissues of the joints, causing deep, aching pain, colloquially known as “The Bends.”[2,3] Numbness and paresthesias are the 2nd most common initial symptom (27% of cases). Other manifestations can include loss of consciousness, vertigo, seizure, or stroke-like symptoms.[3] The treatment for all DCI is identical: 100% oxygen, isotonic saline boluses, and recompression.[2,3] If no hyperbaric chamber is available, patients should be transferred to a capable site as soon as they are hemodynamically stable. A full workup is recommended, but should never delay recompression.[2,3]

Pulmonary Complaints
Pulmonary barotrauma, the most severe form of barotrauma experienced by divers, includes pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, and arterial gas embolism (AGE). Symptoms present during or immediately following ascent, especially a rapid emergency ascent. Patients with pneumothorax have decreased breath sounds with hyperresonance on the affected side and may develop respiratory distress with hemodynamic compromise. Management includes observation, oxygen, needle aspiration, or chest tube placement based on severity. Tension pneumothorax, with respiratory distress, tracheal deviation, and hypotension, may also develop. These patients require emergent needle decompression followed by chest tube placement.[2,5]

Pneumomediastinum generally presents with chest pain and subcutaneous emphysema (palpable air under the skin) of the neck and chest. It can most often be diagnosed with a chest x-ray. The condition is typically benign and self-limited; however, clinicians must carefully evaluate these patients to rule out more serious conditions including air embolism and pneumothorax.[2]

AGE is one of the most serious complications of pulmonary barotrauma. Ruptured airways allow gas to enter the pulmonary circulation, return to the heart, and migrate to the rest of the body causing a variety of ischemic symptoms, including strokes and myocardial infarctions. Symptom onset is during or immediately following ascent. The neurologic and cardiac manifestations of DCI are indistinguishable from AGE, and thus are treated identically: 100% oxygen, recompression, and urgent contact of the DAN hotline.[2, 3, 6]

Contamination and Toxic Effects of Inhaled Gasses
Diving at extreme depths or using specialized air mixtures can result in complications associated with high partial-pressures of inhaled gasses. Nitrogen, which is inert at sea-level, can exert a narcotic-like effect when divers journey below 30 meters. At high concentrations, oxygen and carbon dioxide become toxic, resulting in altered mental status and seizures. While dangerous at depth, these effects resolve quickly upon ascent and breathing of room air. No treatment is needed in the ED. Contact DAN for situation-specifics recommendations.[2]

Carbon Monoxide is a feared toxin often associated with space heaters and car engines, however, in the case of faulty compression equipment, contamination of diver’s air tanks is possible. Patients will typically follow carbon monoxide’s characteristic presentation. All divers presenting with persistent altered mental status should be evaluated with a pulse oximeter capable of differentiating carboxyhemoglobin if carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected. High flow oxygen via non-rebreather mask is the initial treatment of choice, with hyperbaric oxygen as the definitive therapy.[2,6]

Conclusion
SCUBA diving remains a popular sport worldwide, and patients continue to present to the ED following diving accidents. The most common issues include barotrauma of the lungs and ears, AGE, and DCI. Important considerations include chief complaint, history of the dive, and timing of symptom onset. Physical exam should focus on the organ system affected, with careful attention paid to the pulmonary and neurological exams. Findings concerning for AGE or DCI should prompt immediate recompression along with administration of isotonic saline and 100% oxygen. Lastly, DAN should be contacted for situation specific advice whenever a diver with a serious injury presents in the ED.

10 Scary Things About Space
By Christopher Warner,
Toptenz, 14 April 2019.

Since the dawn of man (and woman), humankind has gazed longingly at the flickering stars high above in search of meaning, guidance, and inspiration. A gradual progression in science and technology has taught us much about our faraway skies - namely, that it’s cold, dark, and tantalizingly mysterious up there. It’s also scarier than Hell.

Nonetheless, it’s hard not to daydream about the outer limits or simply laugh at Captain Kirk and that space lizard in the worst fight scene ever filmed. Although many elements of the final frontier remain elusive, recent discoveries have revealed an array of terrifying threats that will keep even the bravest star warriors hiding under the covers with the lights on at night.

10. Meteor Showers

Imagine cruising along in your Honda or Chevy GUV (Galactic Utility Vehicle) blasting sound waves on the ol’ satellite when suddenly out of nowhere - BLAMMO - you’re blindsided by a huge boulder. Not only is your insurance rate going to skyrocket, but the nearest space side assistance is billions of miles away. Bummer.

Although this scenario may seem like a sci-fi nightmare, a similar occurrence actually occurred on planet earth in 2013 after a meteorite exploded over the Ural mountains in Russia. By the time the dust settled, over 400 people had been injured, underscoring the disturbing reality that cascading debris can strike without warning.

Fortunately, most large falling objects burn up while traveling through the earth’s atmosphere. Space travelers in the future, however, will have to dodge a spate of other potential hazards, including meteors, comets, and asteroids.

9. Black Holes

Q: What traps light, warps time, and operates on a colossal scale but yet can’t be seen? A: Black Holes. True to its enigmatic label, black holes have been mythically confounding ever since Albert Einstein first introduced the notion with his general theory of relativity in 1916.

Recently, astronomers took the first image ever of a black hole via the Event Horizon Telescope, a network of eight linked telescopes around the world. Although many questions still remain unanswered, black holes are characterized by the way they affect nearby debris, stars, and galaxies - and typically form out of the death of a large star called a supernova (more on that that later). Unlike a planet or star, a black hole doesn’t have a surface but rather occupies a region where matter has collapsed on itself. The amount of concentrated mass is such that nothing can escape its gravitational pull - not even light - and certainly not an astronaut who makes a disastrous wrong turn while lost in space.

Black holes exist in many different sizes, and similar to tornadoes, they tend to move around at high speeds, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Even a small one in our Solar System would be catastrophic, tossing planets out of orbit and ripping the sun to shreds. Although intrepid explorers will be tempted to visit these dark voids, nothing so far has ever survived a trip to a black hole.

8. Solar Flares

Our sun is a glorious, awe-inspiring star that provides warmth, light and the necessary temperature for precious life to exist. It’s also steadily expanding - and will someday completely destroy earth, torching our beloved planet like a marshmallow that’s been left too long around a campfire. Fortunately, that won’t happen for billions of years, but in the meantime, solar flares are capable of inflicting tremendous damage with little or no warning.

A solar flare is a violent eruption that occurs when stored energy on the sun is suddenly released. This produces another one of those ridiculous hotter-than-Hell numbers, releasing a flash of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum.

Scientists classify solar flares according to their brightness and in relation to x-ray wavelengths. The largest of categories, X-class flares, are large, disruptive events that can severely damage satellites, wipe out power grids, and basically relegate all “smart” technology to stupid pieces of crap.

7. Eridanus Supervoid

First of all, stop your juvenile snickering. No, this isn’t slang for an epic bowel movement or anything of the sordid kind. The Eridanus Supervoid is believed to be a massive empty section located in the Eridanus Constellation just south of Orion. However, what makes this discovery so intriguing is that it’s not only the largest structure ever observed in the Universe, but it’s missing about 10,000 galaxies - or around 20 percent less matter than other regions. As a result, the oddity could possibly contain an “alternative reality” within this ominous patch of sky.

In 2004, cosmologists at University of Hawaii observed a span stretching 1.8 billion light-years across and located about 3 billion light-years away (1 light year = 5.88 trillion miles). They identified a large Cold Spot on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), a map of the radiation left over from the Big Bang, providing a critical tool to study the origin and development of the Universe at cosmic timescales.

The startling revelation presented a perplexing conundrum: the enormity of the cold spot doesn’t align with our current understanding of how the Universe evolved. While it’s not uncommon to find a few small warm and cold patches on the CMB, cold patches of this magnitude are a head-scratching anomaly. According to one report, it’s “too big to exist.”

6. Fermi’s Paradox

In 1942, an Italian-American physicist named Enrico Fermi led an all-star team of scientists to build the world’s first nuclear reactor. This monumental effort was part of the Manhattan Project, a top-secret U.S. government operation that produced the atomic bomb. Afterward, Fermi shifted his attention and extraordinary acumen on solving another complex subject: why haven’t we detected any other alien civilization despite the billions upon billions of other Earth-type planets that most likely exist?

The theory, which came to be known as “Fermi’s Paradox,” posits how the high probability of extraterrestrial life is contradictory to the lack of fact-based, demonstrable evidence supporting it. Naturally, this school of thought discounts the myriad of claims made by people who have allegedly witnessed UFOs or experienced alien encounters - not to mention phenomenons such as Crop Circles and Cargo Cult Theory.

While it’s tough to argue with a genius of Fermi’s stature (especially with our own limited, reptilian brains), we’re left wondering if it’s more frightening that we’re all alone or that hostile life forms are waiting to devour us like a Great White Shark munching seal snacks. Either way, it’s best to keep that aforementioned light on at night.

5. HyperNova

Many subjects dealing with the cosmos involve an impossible-to-fathom number. A hypernova is one of them. In this instance, the astronomical figure relates to the excessive amount of heat and energy generated from an explosion. But first, let’s review what is known about these fascinating wonders.

Novas are relatively small eruptions that occur in double star systems. When a white dwarf’s gravity pulls material away from a companion star, gas piles up and eventually becomes dense enough to ignite in a spark of nuclear fusion. Next, the Supernova, usually marks the death of a large star and the formation of a neutron star. The heat of a supernova can reach 120 million degrees - a temperature five times that of a nuclear blast.

Finally, a hypernova is an ultra-energetic supernova marking the birth of black holes and the release of intense gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), the most energetic form of light. As the mightiest of the Nova family, hypernovae are 5 to 50 times more energetic than a supernova. Additionally, for sake of completion, “Champagne Supernova“ is a song by the mega pop band Oasis, featuring lyrics of which scientists have yet to decipher the meaning…

4. We’re really, really, really small…

Although mother earth appears to be a gigantic sphere of bottomless oceans and endless roads, we’re relatively puny compared to other planets. How small? In terms of relative scale, Jupiter is 2.5 times larger than all the rest of the planets in the Solar System combined. But if you really want to feel minuscule, look no further than our sun - that big fiery 10,000-degree inferno 93 million miles away.

The Sun’s diameter is 109 times bigger than the rock we call home and is so large that 1,300,000 planet Earths could fit inside of it. While the luminous ball appears to be the largest star in the sky, that’s only because it’s the closest. The #1 star in the universe is the gargantuan UY Scuti, a Red Supergiant with a radius around 1,700 times larger than our sun.

But don’t despair, Earthlings. At least now you know how a ladybug feels, clinging to a thin blade of grass.

3. Rogue Planets

These wandering vagabonds (also known as nomad planets, unbound planets, orphan planets, starless planets, etc.) are objects with enough mass to qualify as planets but orbit a galactic center directly. The Universe, despite its vast expanse, consists of a jam-packed arena of activity that often resembles a well-choreographed dance. But a rogue planet disrupts this flow, stumbling recklessly to the beat of its own rhythmless hum while bumping into other cosmic bodies like a drunken ballerina.

Scientists believe rogue planets may have have been ejected from a previous planetary system or have never been gravitationally bound to another body such as a star. Furthermore, our galaxy (aka the Milky Way) alone may have billions of them.

Interestingly, some rogue planets feature a molten core, which combined with an insulated, cold exterior, could possess subterranean oceans that support life. A team of petrologists from Rice University recently theorized that a rogue planet the size of Mars possibly collided with earth 4.4 billion years ago, and could very well have planted the seeds of life while creating enough debris that later developed into our moon.

2. Space Junk

Ever since the start of the space race, man-made objects have been piling up in what has been politely termed “orbital debris.” But that’s being a little too kind. Let’s just call it what it really is: space junk. A wide range of discarded litter now includes thousands of metal fragments, cameras, spent rocket boosters, and even a complete 1958 U.S. satellite (Vanguard-1) that’s currently the oldest artificial hunk of metal still in orbit.

This overflowing galactic garbage, not unlike our polluted oceans, is rapidly nearing a critical juncture; the consequences could be detrimental for both astronauts and those below running for cover from the falling rubbish. There are currently over 1,700  satellites in operation, yet represents less than 10 percent of debris large enough to track from the ground. An obscene amount of smaller objects could also cause serious damage - and sadly, the number will only to continue to climb.

In just one single action from 2007, China destroyed a decommissioned weather satellite during one of its weapons tests, smashing the object into over 150,000 pieces. However, any attempts to clean up spiraling mess could present even more problems in terms of national security (surveillance equipment) and/or result in conflicts over territorial rights. In short, we’re doomed.

1. Zombie Stars

Just when you think we couldn’t be inundated any more movies, TV shows, and books about bloodsuckers and the undead, the science community has joined the fray with “Zombie Stars.”  Really? What’s next brainiacs, a Frankenplanet? Never mind.

As one might guess, a zombie star is something that won’t die. Ever. The monstrous explosion from a supernova typically glows brightly for a while before the dying star is obliterated into space dust. That is unless, for reasons that have yet to be determined, the star manages to avoid death. Adding to the horror show, the zombie star can become a vampire star by sucking fuel and energy from a nearby star to revive itself.

The most famous zombie (for scientists, anyway) is known as iPTF14hls. The star first appeared in 1954 and was thought to have died over a half century ago - but a discovery in 2014 revealed it’s still alive with no plans of retiring. According to the renowned astronomer, Iair Arcavi, a NASA Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and the Las Cumbres Observatory, the star’s inexplicable behavior is the “the biggest puzzle I’ve encountered.”

Yikes. If he’s stumped, folks, all we can do is lock the doors to the space station and hope for the best.

Thermoreversible mucoadhesive polymer-drug dispersion for sustained local delivery of budesonide to treat inflammatory disorders of the GI tract.

J Control Release. 2019 Apr 10;:

Authors: Antonino RSCMQ, Nascimento TL, de Oliveira Júnior ER, Souza LG, Batista AC, Lima EM

Abstract
Mucoadhesive drug formulations have been studied and used as alternatives to conventional formulations in order to achieve prolonged retention at the intended site. In addition to providing a controlled drug release, several drugs and disease conditions might benefit from mucoadhesive formulations, contributing to better therapeutic outcomes. Here, we describe the development and the in vitro/in vivo characterization of a mucoadhesive in situ gellifying formulation using PF127, a thermo reversible polymer, entrapping budesonide (BUD), a potent corticosteroid used for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory diseases, including those affecting mucosas, such as in the GI tract. PF127 formulations (15-17%) were successfully prepared by a cold method as a thermo reversible in situ gelling dispersion for mucosal drug delivery, as confirmed by DSC. Sol-gel temperatures of PF127 formulations (25-39 °C) were observed by dynamic gelation and determined by microrheology and oscillatory rheometry. X-ray diffractograms and TEM images showed that BUD was completely solubilized within the polymeric micelles. In vitro, the gels showed 5-14 g force of mucoadhesion, and the ex vivo studies confirmed that the formulation efficiently adhered to the mucosa. Histopathological analysis combined with fluorescence images and ex vivo intestinal permeation confirmed that the formulation remained on the TGI mucosa for at least 4 h after administration. In vivo studies conducted in a murine model of intestinal mucositis demonstrated that the 16% PF127 BUD formulation was able to resolve the inflammatory injury in the intestinal mucosa. Results demonstrate that fine-tuning of PF127 formulations along with adequate selection of the drug agent, thorough characterization of the dispersions and their interactions with biological interfaces leads to the development of effective controlled drug delivery systems targeted to GI inflammatory diseases.

Recap - Price, Bogaerts Lift Red Sox Past Orioles      Comment   Translate Page

David Price tossed seven shutout innings and Xander Bogaerts drove in all four runs as the Red Sox shut out the Orioles 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.

The win was Boston's third in its last four games and fourth in its last six.

Price was magnificent in getting into the win column for the first time in 2019. He scattered three hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out eight before turning things over to the bullpen.

Bogaerts put Boston up 1-0 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning and then slammed a three-run homer to center in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez each had two hits in the win. Andrew Benintendi left the game after fouling a ball off his left foot. X-rays were negative and manager Alex Cora said after the game that Benintendi is day-to-day.

The Red Sox wrap the four-game series up Monday morning at 11:05 AM in the annual Patriots Day game. Hector Velazquez will be on the mound for Boston.

Comment on The Weakening Of Earth’s Magnetic Field Has Greatly Accelerated by dscott       Comment   Translate Page
<i>As you will see below, if enough solar radiation starts reaching our planet none of us will survive.</i> What utter nonsense, our ancestors, animals and plants survived all the other magnetic collapses and ensuing pole reversals. Basic logic suggests that this fear mongering is wild speculation since we, the animal kingdom and plants are here to tell the tale. Yes, there will be more radiation reaching the surface, however, by logical deduction it is the dense atmosphere that really (primarily) protects all life, the magnetic shield is an added (temporary) layer of protection that periodically declines. No, we all won't die of radiation sickness or cancer, our bodies have a built in repair mechanism for radiation damage similar to an immune response to disease. The process is called hormesis, at low levels of radiation the body's cell damage repair process kicks in. As the magnetic shield declines, the body's natural defenses gear up in response to the ever increasing radiation. So cancel the apocalypse. Ann Coulter did a nice article on radiation years ago debunking the wild false assertions of econut liberals who are against all things nuclear. A GLOWING REPORT ON RADIATION http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2011-03-16.html <i>This only seems counterintuitive because of media hysteria for the past 20 years trying to convince Americans that radiation at any dose is bad. There is, however, burgeoning evidence that excess radiation operates as a sort of cancer vaccine. As The New York Times science section reported in 2001, an increasing number of scientists believe that at some level -- much higher than the minimums set by the U.S. government -- radiation is good for you. "They theorize," the Times said, that "these doses protect against cancer by activating cells' natural defense mechanisms." Among the studies mentioned by the Times was one in Canada finding that tuberculosis patients subjected to multiple chest X-rays had much lower rates of breast cancer than the general population... ...Although it is hardly a settled scientific fact that excess radiation is a health benefit, there's certainly evidence that it decreases the risk of some cancers -- and there are plenty of scientists willing to say so. But Jenny McCarthy's vaccine theories get more press than Harvard physics professors' studies on the potential benefits of radiation. </i> LIBERALS: THEY BLINDED US WITH SCIENCE http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2011-03-23.html
