A rákészülés a tervezés látszata

Írásnál egyre gyakrabban tapasztalom, amikor nekiesem a vázlatkészítésnek, a nekiesésen  a hangsúly.

A múltbanézés a cselekvés illúziója

Önfegyelem nélkül a net motivációtemető. Elaprózza a figyelmet, ami érdekes keresésnek, utánanézésnek indul, az pazarlásba fullad. Minek futsz fel Fb-re? Ugyan mi olyan történhet ott, ami egyik percről a másikra megváltoztatja írói életedet? Divatosan a kapcsolati tőke gondozásának is titulálhatod a "pályatársak" (sic!) személyes híreinél hagyott kommentet, emotikont; a félszakmai zsánercsoportokban történő böngészés rögtön naprakészség piedesztáljára emelkedik. Ugyanez a zsánereseményekkel foglalkozó oldalakra is elsüthető hazugság.

Időnként sajnálom ezeket a kitérőket. A konkrét írástól elvett idő, közben meg lényeges ahhoz, árnyalatokkal ruházzam fel a vázat.
A többi, önmagáért való ingerküszöb emelés viszont ártalmas. A figyelem érték.

credit: Sylfvr

Stáció 4: kegyetlen őszinteség

Itt a kvintesszenciája mindennek, amit írói halogatásnak neveznék.

Amikor a sztoridról agyviharozol, akkor is.

Igazi oximoron. Filantrópok szerint végtelenül emberi. Milyen érdekes, gyakorta a jó dolgokat is tologatom, nem csak a rosszakat, kínosakat, kényelmetleneket. Késleltetett elmerülés, a várakozás izgalma.

Why society's current perception of normal is dangerous       Cache   Translate Page
In our society we like to split things into normal and abnormal. While this is usually harmless or needed, for example murder is abnormal for a reason, it can at times be harmful. This is when the thing that is “ abnormal” is harmless and does not affect anyone and yet it is scrutinized, ridiculed, and sometimes gets people killed. Some examples of dangerous society norms would be sexuality, gender, and body modifications.

Although society is beginning to change people still often scrutinize someone with tattoos or other body modifications. People will still stop and stare in disgust or judgementally when they see someone with tattoos and such. This is an example of something “abnormal” that honestly affects no one but the person who has done it to their own body yet people still feel it necessary to “help” these people by going on about how they shouldn't of done this. Popular beliefs are that they do this for attention and that no one will ever hire them.

rick_genest2_by_oneeightytwo-d3fvzhd.jpg
http://oneeightytwo.deviantart.com/art/Rick-Genest2-208085089

This is a picture of Rick Genest also known as “zombie boy”. He is a Canadian model and actor though he is mostly know for tattooing 80% of his body like a living skeleton. In the picture above the focus is on Genest and his tattoos as well as the words themselves. Genest is show from two different angles, obviously to show off the tattoos on his body. As for Genest himself he is comfortable and confident. His body is neither stiff nor folding in on itself. He is displaying himself and his tattoos proudly and he is obviously not ashamed of them. You can tell that he is content with his choice to tattoo his body. As for the words themselves they read “I didn’t do this to be different. I did this, because i wanted to be me”. This is a direct quote from Genest. Many people get tattoos and body modifications because it makes them feel comfortable; they often use this as a way of self expression. I believe the body is a blank canvas and that you can choose what to do with. However people often ostracise and isolate these people because that is not something they themselves would do to their own body. People often deem someone with tattoos as unprofessional and unable to do a job because people think that they are impulsive and unable to think ahead. This can be true but it’s incorrect to think it always is. Again use Rick Genest as an example: he is a professional model. Modeling is a serious career and you can’t be unprofessional or rash and be able to make it in such a career. Yet people still judge someone based on their looks before seeing if they are competent and it stops people from being able to make a living. This is why this perception can be dangerous and harmful to many people.

Just as people feel it necessary to give negative remarks on another persons tattoos people also feel it necessary to comment on another person's gender. Now i don’t mean sexism though that is a problem: in this instance i am referring to someone disregarding another person's gender identity. Now you may be familiar with transexual people but if not i will clarify a transexual person is a person who feels they were born in the wrong body. Essentially their physical sex doesn't match up with who they feel in their heart they are. Now I’m sure some of you are thinking “no your genitals tell you what gender you are” and that is where the problem lies.

http://lgbtfeed.com/post/dont_be_your_child_first_bully

In the above picture we see a child whose wings are being clipped off by their father as their mother watches. The child is obviously upset and it seems as if the child will begin to cry as for the father he is focused and angry. You can tell by his furrowed brows and the slight downward curve of his mouth. While the mother she is standing back. She is sad and likely feels bad for her child but she will not step in. The words say “refuse to be your child's first bully”. Wings often symbolise freedom and the child in the photo is having their wings removed. The parents are removing the child's wings and taking a part of themself from the child. Likely you feel an impact from this picture however the true impact is shown with the colours in the wings. The wings are coloured to represent the transexual pride flag. The child in this photo is transexual and is having this part of themself taken because of their parents. That in itself is a form of abuse and bullying as they are denying an important part of the child. This is where that not respecting someone's gender identity part comes in. The child's parents do not respect their child's gender identity and instead feel it necessary to destroy a part of their child than to accept them. Many people feel that transexuals are just being rebellious or want to stand out. People believe there is no such thing as transexuality and feel it is a new “fad”. However evidince of transexual people can date back as far as ancient Greece.

http://sleepyllama.tumblr.com/post/93597177582/mis-gendering-usually-feels-like-a-punch-to-the

The picture above was illustrated by a young transexual boy showing his experience. The character in the comic is being assaulted by female pronouns. They are suffocating him and crushing him under their weight and despite how much he runs or hides they are still there. In the fifth panel he attempts to correct them. He is tentative and frightened however in the final panel the words return full force and are surrounding him. They are taking up the entire panel and suffocating him until there is no space left for him. These words take up the entire panel to the point where he is no longer the focus and no longer important. Not only that but the large “she” has two exclamation points as the person saying this is forcibly attempting to tell the character he is a girl. The progression of the previous panel with him correcting them to the last shows that he feels no matter how hard he fights back he will always be surrounded by people who say he is a girl. This perception that society has of your genitalia determining your gender is not only incorrect but dangerous. It is dangerous for these individuals as they suffer the onslaught of people saying they are wrong, disrespecting them, calling them disgusting, vile. Many trans youths do not see a way out and 41% of transgender youth in the US alone have attempted suicide. Not only that but due to many peoples violent reactions transgender people have even been assaulted in the doctor's office. Many trans men are raped and many trans women are violently killed. 1 in 12 transgender people in the US are murdered due to the societal belief that they are less than human. Worthless. Many transexual people lose friends and family and 18% are homeless. An example: recently this year the salvation army refused to let a transexual teen stay at one of their shelters simply because they were transexual and because of that the teen froze to death. That is why this belief is so dangerous. Just like with tattoos even if you do not agree; a person's decision is their own and you have no right to impose on them; much less to end their life.

The perception regarding transsexual people is that everyone is born cisgendered. Cisgendered is a term created to refer to a person to whom identifies as the sex they were born with. This perception is also often coupled with the perception that everyone is born straight. These perceptions are the entire reason people even need to “come out of the closet” as the saying goes. Much like with transexual people people will say that being any sexuality other than straight is disgusting and unnatural.

The above image shows a pink piece of fabric cut into the shape of a triangle with the words “some memories never fade”. If you look closely at the triangle you will see the outline of a swastika. The swastika as we all know is a symbol from the holocaust. Something i’m sure quite a few of you know is that the pink triangle was placed onto gay people hitler rounded up and placed into concentration camps. A bit of information conveniently left out is that in many cases when the camps were freed the gay people in them were forced to go to jail as at the time being gay was illegal. So not only did they endure years of the torture we have all heard about but once they were “freed” they were placed in jail to suffer more. The triangle appears to be attached to something or someone but it is unclear as to who. Rather it floats in black space continuously attached to something as if it is always attached to those in the gay community; those prejudices and that hatred always with them. People will ask me and others why we care so much; why we fight so hard. The answer is the above triangle that represents so many peoples past and present suffering. The gay community has reclaimed the pink triangle since then; made it a symbol of pride but the prejudice is still there. This triangle is proof of how dangerous these perceptions are because this triangle represents the torture and death of hundreds from then and now.

To conclude while I’ll agree that sometimes we need to dictate what is normal and what is not I don’t believe people who are not harming anyone deserve to be harmed themselves. I do not believe in isolating these people and I do not believe they deserve the mental, physical, verbal, sexual, and emotional abuse they face.
          6. MonoGame - Putting a Sprite Onscreen      Cache   Translate Page

Originally posted on: http://kariem.net/cwilliams/archive/2017/02/16/242270.aspx

MonoGame - Putting a Sprite Onscreen

If you aren’t familiar with the term “sprite”, it refers to a two-dimensional (2D) graphical image that you can display onscreen. Sometimes they are individual images, and sometimes you can find them on what is called a SpriteSheet.

Here’s an example of a SpriteSheet:

We’ll come back to using SpriteSheets later, since that’s a little more complex than just putting a single image onscreen.

I’m going to use this image for now:

You can just right-click it and “Save As…” to your desktop or wherever, since we’ll be using it shortly.

If you haven’t already, create a new MonoGame Windows Project. (Take a look here for a refresher on the project types.)

Once you have the project created, you’ll want to add your sprite to the Content folder of your project. (right-click, Add,  Existing item…)

Mine is called red_mushroom.png so you should name yours that as well if you’re following along (or, you know, change it in the code… whatever.)

image

You’ll need to check the properties, and make sure Build Action is set to Content and Copy to Output is set to Copy if newer, like so:

image

Next, open up the Game1.cs file and add the following variable under the SpriteBatch definition, before the constructor:

        Texture2D redMushroom;

A Texture2D is how MonoGame (and XNA) refer to a two-dimension graphical asset.

Scroll down to the LoadContent() method and add this line:

        redMushroom = Content.Load<Texture2D>("red_mushroom");

The Content.Load<> is a generic that accepts a number of different types, including audio and 3D models. You can leave off the filename extension, or add it, it won’t make a difference, and it automatically looks in the Content folder by default!

Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the file and add this to the Draw() method, before the call to base.Draw:

        spriteBatch.Begin();
        spriteBatch.Draw(redMushroom, new Vector2(0, 0), Color.White);
        spriteBatch.End();

I’m not going to go in much detail here about SpriteBatch, other than to say it provides a way to send multiple commands efficiently to your graphics card. We’ll dig into the SpriteBatch in a later post. The Draw() command has a lot of overloads, and the one we’re using takes the Texture2D, some coordinates, and a filter color. (Using white means we don’t change it at all. Try changing the color to Red or Blue and see what happens!!)

You’re done! Hit F5 and marvel in the glory of a giant red mushroom on a cornflower blue background.

Next up…

I’ll cover putting some text on screen. If you came directly to this page, you can find the complete list of articles here.

More Chibi Greek Gods and Goddesses Coming Soon . . .      Cache   Translate Page
Hello to all of you out there in Internet-land!
As some of you might of guess that I haven't been putting up that many pictures as of late. This is due to my current focus on job searching. Although I would love to put up some sketches that I've done, I've been focusing my time to the pursuit of a job within my community. I know that the job market is still in a slump due to the ongoing recession, but I'm hopeful to get my foot in the door and help to provide for myself. Currently, I've been trying to put myself out there into social networking and reach out to others through blogger and other websites. I'll hopefully make a Twitter account and link it to my blogger page here. I've been meaning to post a Facebook page on my artwork, as well as input my artwork on deviantART to get some recognition. (Am I the only one surprised that I have more followers on deviantART than on my own blog?)
However, those of you who are looking forward to more Chibi Hermes and more Greek Gods and Goddesses, I've been making mental notes on how other deities like Zeus and Hades will look like. I just have to put that imagination to paper and then to Adobe Illustrator.
Emotional Labour - In My Words      Cache   Translate Page
Behold! Another post in what seems like forever since visiting blogger! Still, I have no loyal followers at the moment so I'm not disappointing that many people; mostly myself for being neglectful of my blog. However, I think it's mostly due to the fact that I haven't that much to "blog" about to . . . anyone. Scary, isn't it?
But I digress . . . What is emotional labour? ((Just so you know, I'm Canadian and I spell labour with an 'u', so don't judge)) We all think labour is the same in our minds: simply put, it's work. Not all of us like to do work because, well . . . you either like it or don't, depending on what kind of work it is. Many of us don't like the same kind of work because of different interests, but what is the kind of work that links to all of us, despite different situations of labour found throughout the world? That would be emotional labour: the labour of love put into one's own work. Something that you put all of your effort into something that you love to make something out of it. It's what drives individuals to achieve what they wish from themselves, to be that which they want to be, to be genuine to themselves and their dreams. Emotional labour is what make artists to produce art, what makes writers write, what makes inventors invent.
I felt as though I've been lacking in that department of emotional labour for a long time . . . longer than I hope it would last, that I felt dead without. That I haven't the time to be me and pour my soul into things that I enjoy to do and want to do for a living.
I draw, I write, I create . . . but for a while it was never for me or for the sake of creating art, just for impressing others. For a while I felt as though I haven't been good enough to produce something that people not only like, but enjoy to look at no matter how many times they want. It's something that has been hindering me for a while. For some years, because of schooling, I had to hold off some of my written works because of other deadlines or for other reasons. There are things that I still want to learn, but there are other things that people force me to learn instead of letting me learn on my own. I want to break away from it all, but I get punished for lack of commitment.
Still, I want to put that emotional labour into work and play. I want to find out how to incorporate it so that I can feel that satisfaction of my creations, whether it be for work or for my sake. I want to be able to write again with the vigour that I had for my stories. ((I might not post written works up here in fear of someone trying to plagiarize my work. However, I'll be posting pictures and movies on here in the future)) I want to be able to enjoy drawing and creating again by pouring my essence into my work. I want to reach out to others and be able to share my ideas and make connections.
I want to be remembered . . . not as another name engraved into a tombstone, but as someone who "did something".
I tend to be active around such websites like deviantArt and YouTube. I like things that interest me, but my interests tend to grow from my curiosity of things that I don't know about or catch my interest. Surprisingly enough, I tend to go to Wikipedia on an almost daily basis for news and for some research materials onto such subjects of interest. If I like something, I tend to return to it in hopes of someone replying to me. I browse on certain severs collecting artwork for reference material or for inspiration. My deviantArt favourites is pretty massive at this point for a referral. Link to deviantArt Favourites I also follow this blog of one of my favourite teachers who is a constant spring of knowledge and advice on art and is who I inspire to model myself after. Link to blog Despite this, I also enjoy a good laugh now and then, which YouTube constantly provides. Through a friend, I came across the Swedish Youtube sensation PewDiePie, who records himself playing various of scary games. His reactions are very hilarious, but a warning to people who don't like scary games or videos to be aware. I don't want anyone reading this to be responsible for getting nightmares from watching his stuff. He does tend to play funny stuff if he gets tired of playing too many horror games. Link to PewDiePie's Youtube page Don't worry though, he speaks English throughout all of his videos. Rarely do you hear him speak Swedish, but it sometimes slips out.
There's a written podcast about emotional labour on the following website if anyone wants to know more about it. Link to webpage

Parent and Guardian      Cache   Translate Page
I remember reading a permission slip on my walk home from school.  It was for a field trip, and at the bottom, it said "Signature of Parent or Guardian."  I knew what parent meant, obviously, and I contemplated the word Guardian with a mind filled with Narnia and Middle Earth.

My brain came up with something like this:

And I thought, that kid with a Guardian is so lucky!

I promptly told my mom that I wanted a Guardian.  She explained what the word actually meant, that some children don't have parents and a guardian is someone who takes care of them if their parents can't.  I decided I didn't want a guardian after all.

guard·i·an
noun /ˈgärdēən/
guardians, plural
  1. A defender, protector, or keeper
  2. A person who looks after and is legally responsible for someone who is unable to manage their own affairs, esp. an incompetent or disabled person or a child whose parents have died

  3. The superior of a Franciscan convent

Now, as a parent, I'll get to sign that "parent or guardian" line.  I'm going to cross out the "or" and replace it with "and."

A guardian is a defender, protector and keeper.  Not owner, not king.  A guardian holds the gate, standing between their charge and the evils of the world.   "You shall not pass", he cries to the beast of flame, not while he can stop you.  His mere presence implies that what he guards is valuable and precious, worthy of protection.  His sword is never directed toward his charge, but outward.

I am my son's parent and guardian.  I am not his owner or his master.  It is my solemn duty to protect him from harm, no matter the cost.  He is precious and fragile, and the world is not always kind or safe.  I may not have a sword (well, ok, Dave has a cool Claymore for Highland festivals...) but I would still give my life to keep him safe.  It's not my job to "make him into a man" - that will happen on its own.  I am powerful, but I do not need to wield power against him.  I won't even let the little dragons in (well, maybe the nice dragons).

Are you also your child's guardian?  What does that mean to you?
Mar, mar. Da' al vostru al cui e?      Cache   Translate Page
