Book Covers, Model Airplanes, and My Dad      Cache   Translate Page

This is an extended transcription of my CreativeMornings talk. The theme was “Make,” and instead of speaking about my own work, I decided to talk about my dad, his work, and how he turned me into the maker I am today.

My dad is a freelance book cover illustrator. He started right out of college and has been pushing out covers ever since—about 37 years now. If you’ve ever been in a book store, you’ve seen one of his covers. If you’ve walked past a cardboard box on the street with a stack of books in it, you’ve seen one of his covers.

For the first 20 years, he painted each and every cover. He would take a few reference photos with his polaroid land camera and spend the following month painting with acrylics on a gessoed masonite board. Upon finishing, he would slip the cover in a Fedex box and ship it to his publisher in New York, hoping it would arrive in one piece. Now, my dad uses Photoshop. He can start a cover on a Friday and email it to his publisher on Monday.

Since my dad works from home, my siblings and I grew up watching him illustrate these covers. He greeted us in the morning from his studio and wished us goodnight from his studio. My dad burns the midnight oil better than anyone I know, which explains why working a 14-hour day sometimes feels normal to me. Some nights, we would work alongside each other in his studio, watching any given Philly game, with the audio from the local radio broadcast.

Because my parents live in the small town of Macungie, PA, my dad would ask us to pose for him rather than hiring models. At the time, there was nothing special about this—it was just part of our childhood. I would spend a few minutes looking like a boy without a family and he would pay me $20, which I could use towards my next video game. To a kid, this was a steal.

Posing for my dad was rarely planned—he would just call us over from his studio and ask us to spare a few minutes. The shoot often involved my mom holding a piece of foamcore as a makeshift reflector or picking out the correct attire for us. We would goof around, treating this like our own version of dress-up.

After holding still for a few shots, trying to make each other laugh while not laughing ourselves, we would go back to whatever we were doing. Then, several months later, we would find ourselves on another cover. This felt like magic. My dad doesn’t need green screens or professional lighting—he can make a cover out of anything.

To start a cover, one of my dad’s publishers would send him a sketch. The sketch was often more of a scribble than anything descriptive, so they would follow up the sketch with a call. The art director would chime in and provide a sketch of their own. This would typically be more elaborate, but still difficult for most to interpret. My dad had no problem, though. He would take these sketches and produce a cover with the exact image his publishers had in mind.

Because of this, his publishers would consistently return to him when they needed the job done right. This had a major impact on my own work ethic and the kind of relationships I try to build with others. If you establish yourself as someone who can always finish the job with a level of quality beyond expectations, you will never have trouble finding work.

Though my dad is at the top of his game with book covers, his true passion lies with model airplanes. When he wished us goodnight from his studio, he usually had an airplane in front of him rather than a cover.

He started building airplanes at the age of eight, having learned from his dad. Back then, video games and computers didn’t exist (*gasp*), so models were a common hobby for the average kid. Hobby shops are rare these days, but if you can find one, there’s a good chance it will have a section for model airplanes. But, my dad doesn’t just build his airplanes from kits. He actually constructs them from scratch, and each one is an exact replica of an existing airplane from a previous era, mainly WWI and WWII.

A single airplane will take anywhere from two months to a year to complete. Each one is constructed from several sheets of balsa wood that are cut down to size and glued in place. The airplane is then wrapped in tissue paper and decorated with all the details of its original design. As a kid, I witnessed the daily progress of every plane—each one built as separate parts, then pieced together at the end. Now, I see progress in months, when I’m able to visit home. I’ll catch him either starting a new plane or putting the finishing touches on one I’ve seen only once or twice before. Nevertheless, he’s always excited to show me his latest creation.

Building model airplanes requires enough work on its own to be considered a full-time job, let alone a hobby, but my dad isn’t the type to just shelf a piece of work and call it a day. Every airplane he builds can also fly as well as it looks. In his eyes, what’s a plane that can’t fly? He takes this very seriously, too, to the extent of mowing only a portion of his backyard, so the rest could remain a soft “landing strip” for testing and minor tweaking. He calls it “Hallman’s Meadow”.

As you might expect by now, these airplanes aren’t RC-powered. Believe it or not, they fly on rubber band power. Inside each airplane is a greased rubber band running from a hook in the back to the propeller in the front. The length of the rubber band depends on the size of the airplane, with some reaching as long as several feet.

Winding one of these airplanes by hand would be very tiring, not to mention time-consuming, considering a single flight requires several hundred winds. Instead, my dad uses a makeshift winder. This MacGyver-esque device can wind ten times faster than using your hand. It also comes equipped with a calculator that keeps track of the number of winds, using a magnet that is literally taped to the crank. Surprising no one, you can’t buy these—he knows a guy who makes them.

My dad also competes as a member of the Flying Aces Club. He drives to either Geneseo or Wawayanda in upstate New York and flies against dozens of other “pilots”—each of whom has been building and flying airplanes for decades. They spend a few days competing, but also discussing their craft, process, and experiences from the past year’s build. Having been to several competitions as a kid, I can tell you that each one of these fliers wants nothing more than to share what they know and celebrate each other’s flights.

At the age of 59, my dad is considered the young gun among the other fliers, with most of them old enough to be his dad, but as a 5-time grand champion, he carries a strong reputation.

Along with constructing the actual airplanes, my dad also builds tools to help him make specific parts of each plane. One of these tools, he calls a “canopy vacuformer”, is a contraption that forms the canopy of an airplane from a single sheet of plastic.

My dad places the top-half of the tool in his oven with the plastic securely held in place. The plastic is heated at a temperature between 300-350 degrees, until malleable. Then, he removes the plastic from the oven and places it on top of the balsa mold of the canopy. With the family vacuum, he suctions the plastic down to perfectly fit over the mold, forming the canopy of the airplane.

As a kid, growing up watching this process, I didn’t think twice about it—this was just how you build the canopy for a rubber band-powered model airplane. How else would you do it? Now, I truly appreciate the creativity and resourcefulness on my dad’s part to even think of a process like this, utlizing household appliances.

The attention to detail my dad puts into every airplane is incredible. His obsession with even the most minute details is one that I often see in myself. Every time he reveals his latest workboard of airplane parts to me, I soak in every consideration he shares and admire the precision of each piece. Everything is always perfect. In my own work, I want people to feel the way I do when I see his work.

While constructing an airplane, my dad takes the time to document the entire process, which is why I do the same with my own projects. I love seeing how each part comes together and how it contributes to the final product. Seeing this documentation as a kid, I learned its importance in telling the story of each airplane. I could witness the struggles, decisions and sacrifices that lead to the end result, making every airplane so much better.

My dad’s airplanes are more than just airplanes. Each one is a piece of art and an extension of my dad. Though these planes don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things, they mean the world to him. He taught me everything I know about craftsmanship and what it’s like to be truly passionate about our work. And, I’m passionate about my work because of my dad.

“a whole 116 dollars.” and yet, if it raised your taxes by $116, we would hear how it's crushing the middle class, and those living paycheck to paycheck cannot afford it ect..... I just had a convo with my parents(recently retired) about when this gets on ballot. At first they were all up at arms, then I kindly explained, that this is a great alternative to taxing their retirement income. While not a real political threat, it could be used as one. on that note, I was checking the google and couldn't find anything but has someone tried taking the state to court on retirement income not being taxed?
A woman who retired at 38 says most people probably can't do it      Cache   Translate Page

  • It's more difficult to retire early if you start from zero savings or have debt.
  • That wasn't the case for Tanja Hester, who retired at 38. She had a head start with retirement savings and home equity, she told The Cut.
  • But it still took Hester six years to save enough to retire, which she did in part by moving to a city with a lower cost of living.

Tanja Hester began planning her early retirement at 32, she recently told The Cut.

She was driven to retire early by a demanding work life that put stress on both her physical health and her marriage, she said.

"Isn't the idea that you're supposed to achieve more to get a better lifestyle, not a worse one? It was like my work advancement came at the expense of the rest of my life," Hester, a blogger at Our Next Life, told The Cut.

Before they officially left their jobs, Hester and her husband had put away about 37 times their annual spending, but they weren't starting from scratch.

"It took us about six years to save up for our retirement, and we were not starting from zero. I want to be very clear about that," she told The Cut. "We had retirement savings and home equity before we began the process. I don't think most people can retire at 38 like I did."

Looking back, Hester said, she worked hard on her own as the child of a single dad on disability to eventually be able to retire early, but she was helped by at least some "luck and privilege," including graduating from college with very little debt. Still, Hester and her husband have "always been big savers," she said.

How close are you to being able to retire? Find out with this calculator from our partners:

Hester wrote in her book, "Work Optional: Retire Early the Non-Penny-Pinching Way," that there are a number of ways to fast-track yourself to financial independence and create support structures to stay on that path, Business Insider's Hillary Hoffower reported.

"There are two sides to the saving equation that affect how quickly you can save: how much you earn and how much you spend," Hester wrote. She outlines four steps to quick savings progress: underspend on housing, underspend on transportation, increase your earnings, and use your raises to increase your savings.

"What really helped us do it was that we moved from LA to Tahoe, which has a much lower cost of living," Hester told The Cut. "We bought a home here in 2011, when the housing market was in our favor, and telecommuted for years."

Ultimately, deciding how much money you need to retire early really depends on two factors: your cost of living and how much you expect to earn through investments or passive income during retirement. Once you've calculated that amount — which Grant Sabatier, a self-made millionaire who retired at 30, calls your "target number" — you can figure out how much you need to save monthly, weekly, or even daily to get there.

If you would like a different format, please ask :)

How Big Will Your Project Be, and What Type of Cloth???

The most common type of cloth to stitch on is Aida Cloth. Beginners should use a lower count cloth, as it is easier to see your stitches.

A lower count cloth means that your stitches will be larger than a higher count cloth.. It will also determine how big your finished project will be.

Calculate how large your project will be by dividing the height and width of your project in stitches, by the count of fabric you wish to use. Remember to add a couple or more inches around your fabric where you won't be stitching..

In general the 'count' of fabric you use is how many stitches you will get per inch. For example 14 count Aida Cloth, means you will get 14 stitches per inch, 11 count means you will get 11 stitches per inch :)

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker unveils graduated tax calculator      Cache   Translate Page
SPRINGFIELD – Passage of a statewide graduated income tax structure isn’t possible until after November 2020, but Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker continued to stump for such a proposal Tuesday, announcing the launch of an online “fair tax calculator” during a Chicago news conference.

Per the calculator, which is available at Illinois.gov/fairtaxcalculator, earners would not see an overall income tax increase under Pritzker’s plan until their taxable income reaches $252,336, putting them in the fourth of six proposed income brackets. The tax bill for such a household would be $1 more than if the income was taxed at the current flat rate of 4.95 percent.

Under Pritzker’s plan, only earners whose income exceeds $1 million would be taxed at a flat rate – 7.95 percent – on every penny of income.

For all other earners, different rates ranging from 4.75 percent to 7.85 percent would apply to different margins of income, and the calculator would show how much more or less an earner would pay under the new plan.

“For those who earn up to $250,000, this calculator will show you that you will get tax relief,” Pritzker said, acknowledging that it would be “modest” relief in many situations.

The lowest bracket’s rate is 4.75 percent, and it applies to an earner’s income from nothing to $10,000. Once an earner’s income reaches the second bracket, the 4.75 rate still would apply to the first $10,000, and a 4.9 percent rate would apply for income between $10,001 and $100,000.

This structure continues through a third bracket (4.95 percent on income margins between $100,001 and $250,000), fourth bracket (7.75 percent for income margins between $250,001 and $500,000) and fifth bracket (7.85 percent for income between $500,001 and $1 million).

From the governor’s perspective, the graduated tax is his best option to raise the $3.4 billion necessary to balance the state’s current multibillion-dollar budget hole. Another option is a 15 percent cut to all state funds, including K-12 education.

Republicans have argued that passing a graduated tax would allow Democrats to raise the tax bracket rates in the future, but Pritzker pointed out that the Legislature already has the authority to raise taxes. In fact, he said, his third option for balancing the budget is a 20 percent tax increase on 100 percent of Illinoisans if the graduated tax does not become law.

“I respect the rights of opponents to disagree with this proposal,” Pritzker said. “While they may not agree with my approach, they should do so in good faith and with a specific counterproposal, not pie in the sky.”

Every House Republican signed onto a resolution opposing a graduated tax last month, and the Senate Republican caucus released a statement last week saying that “without guaranteed protections for middle-class families, we are opposed to the governor’s $3.4 billion tax increase.”

Assistant House Minority Leader Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, reiterated that sentiment Tuesday, noting that added revenue from the plan wouldn’t be available until sometime between fiscal 2021 and fiscal 2022 because a constitutional amendment is required to implement it.

An amendment would require a three-fifths vote from both the Illinois House and Senate to place a question on the 2020 presidential election ballot. Then it would need approval from 60 percent of those voting on the question or a majority of those voting in the election. After that, the Legislature would have to approve rates for the governor to sign.

“You’re kind of comparing apples and oranges in terms of his plan for a $3.4 billion tax increase three years from now versus the work that we have to do today to make this current fiscal year and next fiscal year’s budgets work well,” Demmer said.

Demmer gave a list of added budget strains Republicans would oppose – including implementation of the minimum wage increase and single-payer health care, the former of which already is law – and he said Republicans would prefer to talk about issues such as job creation, workers’ compensation reform and investment in education.

But he stopped short of offering specific alternatives to closing the multibillion-dollar structural gap in the state’s budget.

“Step 1 is let’s come up with a revenue estimate. Let’s bring in appropriations committees in the House and the Senate and start having hearings,” Demmer said. “Bring in agency directors, bring in advocacy groups to talk about what they see for this upcoming year, then let’s try to close that gap in a collaborative way.”

Demmer acknowledged that most of those groups would be asking for more money, not volunteering cuts, but he said they would prioritize their expenditures to paint a clearer picture of budget needs.

“I think you have to say everything is going to be on the table. Cuts are certainly going to be on the table. So are programmatic restructuring, reprioritizing what happens in an agency,” he said. “We’re not going to just come to the table and dictate things have to happen according to our plan. We want to be a collaborative part of this and work in good faith to try and close the budget deficit.”

Demmer said Republicans welcome negotiation on this year’s budget, but the House Republicans’ unanimously signed House Resolution 153 says there is “no need to negotiate” on the graduated income tax matter.

“We’ve raised taxes twice in the last decade, we haven’t made other changes to the way this state operates, and we find ourselves continuing to feel the pressure of growing expenditures and insufficient revenue,” he said. “Unless we want to get together and seriously talk about what are some ways we can make Illinois’ economy more resilient and add jobs to the state, and we can bring people back to the state of Illinois, unless we’re ready to do that, it’s a real problem. Simply going back to another tax increase alone is not going to solve our issue.”

Alone or coupled with reforms, however, Demmer said his caucus will continue to stand unanimously opposed to a graduated tax.

Want To Share Information About Annuity Calculator Present Value 笨贼偷摩托不会骑 天津酒店发生火灾 汤团就已经进入了销售的旺季 莫迪或将改组内阁 军训后晒黑走红 由于奶牛养殖业的盲目发展 金正恩听关岛方案 老太落水老汉相救 emaar+mgf+new+project+sector+ posts on ArticleSnatch.com 二战战机修复可飞 healthtec Advancements in technology is taking place sooner than we have expected "" documents 济南大楼半悬楼梯 中国海军击溃海盗 Canon Cartridges And Their Types 女子被地铁拖行 两女子装磁铁行窃 when you join a class 周杰伦跪地半小时 […]

Electronics-Addiction or Reliance?      Cache   Translate Page
Yesterday while reading one of my regular forums, I came across a thread that made me think about a few things. This particular thread was about an online service that allows you to watch movies and television shows at anytime. Originally, this company was nothing more than an online dvd rental, but now offers streaming movies and tv through your computer or gaming system, along with wi-fi capability. While the responses within the thread were different from each person, they were all basically the same in their core. Every one of them used this service, and most of them had it set up for use in multiple rooms so they could watch something or get online virtually anywhere in their homes.

I hear of and see people with cell phones that are capable of nearly everything a personal computer can do. You can use this phone to check your e-mail, get online, take and send pictures, text message, read a book, and now virtually any application that you can think of is available. For the majority of people, their phone never leaves their side. Some simply cannot imagine functioning without it

I'm old enough to remember when my parents got their first color television. I remember when the first commercially sold calculator and digital watch came out. I remember the first people I knew with their own computer had both a Commodore Vic-20 and a Commodore 64. I remember the first person I personally knew with a cell phone had a Motorola bag phone in his work truck, and I remember when my neighbor was the first person I knew to own a video game system when he got an Atari for Christmas. With the exception, of course, of the first television; I have been able to watch home electronics first come onto the scene and advance into what they now are in my 45 years on this Earth. I even remember going from an old rotary phone to a push button. And wow, that first cordless phone was just the coolest thing ever made. We though we were just a few years away from flying cars. Really?? A phone that doesn't have a cord?? WOW, this is like the Jetsons! Where is my robot maid and flying car???

. This is the hard part to think and write about. Have you ever gotten to the point in your life when you realize you sound like your parents? "I remember when I was your age...." "...uphill both ways in the snow"...... Well, I'm kind of there with this post. It's a bit of a hard pill to swallow, but I can accept it. Excuse me while I go look for another 50 gray hairs on my head....

I can't deny that electronics have advanced and in many ways helped or made our lives easier, but I can't help but wonder what they have done to us as a society. We've become so reliant on these items that we can't imagine living without them, and some have become so addicted to them that these devices nearly rule their lives. It's strange to me to see and read of people doing so many things with some electronic device, that either they could easily do otherwise, or so relying on that device for their day to day lives that they cannot do anything without it.

As I said earlier, I remember when a neighbor got an Atari game system for Christmas. It was actually pretty cool at the time. We would spend countless winter hours playing Frogger, PacMan, or drag racing. It killed time on those winter days, or those rainy summer days when there wasn't much to do outside. But, when the weather changed, that system sat on the shelf collecting dust. We had things to do-riding our bikes, chores (anyone remember those?), helping our parents, hunting, fishing, etc. Now I see people that spend entire evenings, or even days, playing games on the newer advanced systems. I personally know several who sometimes brag about spending their entire day off lounging on the couch playing the latest war-type game.

I've watched the home computers grow over the past 30 years. In high school, we used Radio Shack TRS80 computers, and now there are phones that are capable of far more than they were. I remember using my friends Commodore 64 over a phone line and thinking how awesome it was to be able to access someone else's computer. Now I can send e-mail, access any information, talk to friends instantly, and, of course, write in this blog. Actually, for those that don't know, I even met Lisa online almost 13 years ago.

I remember seeing people on tv with cell phones years ago. Normally they were the car phones, but handhelds weren't far behind them. The first person I knew to have any kind of cell phone was my supervisor/foreman when I first entered the pipe trade almost 16 years ago.He had a bag phone the size of a duffel bag in his truck, and it got horrible reception. Now I look around me and know only one person who doesn't have one. I'm constantly surrounded by people whose phone never, ever, leaves their side; and is constantly going off whether it's a call or text message. They're everywhere, and you can barely go anywhere where you won't see someone with their phone glued to their ear or typing away at a text message.

We did, at one time, have a game system. I had bought it the same winter when I met Lisa. I was working out of town and staying in a hotel 5-6 nights a week in the dead of northeast Ohio winter. I bought a used system and a few games just to pass the time in a hotel room. I still had the game system when we bought this place almost 11 years ago. I didn't think at the time I played it often, but I soon learned differently. I was sitting in front of the tv, playing a racing game, when I got up to get some coffee. As I walked to the kitchen, I realized that it was a beautiful day outside, and I had just spent 2-3 hours wasting away at a game. I unplugged the game and traded it off a few days later. I had the exact same thing happen 2 years ago when I realized that I had wasted 4 hours of a wonderful summer day watching a Mythbusters marathon. Two days later, we had the cable company come get the box, and we've never looked back. Since that day, I have read more books than I probably did in the previous ten years. I've stopped wasting my time and have educated myself in many ways. We spend time reading, talking to each other, and even sitting at the table playing board games. Life itself has improved in many ways since tossing the cable out of the window.

I've been writing this post a little at a time over the course of several days. I try not to cop an attitude when I write something like this based solely on my own opinion, but sometimes I do. It's those times when I delete the part I didn't like, and let it sit for a while. This morning I sat to read one of my regular forums with my first cup of coffee. Their forum is broken down into categories like most others, and I see a new post in the "videos" section. Sometimes the videos posted are educational, sometimes they're just entertaining, and sometimes they're of the poster's things done at their own home. I click on one that's titled in a way that makes me think it's from his home. When it opens, I'm disappointed to see that it's yet another video promotion for another video game. I see grown men talking about how they can't wait for the release of this game. Grown men. Not kids, not teens, not even 20-somethings, grown men. Maybe I'm just too disconnected now from games and television, but I just can't understand someone my age getting excited over a video game. It boggles my mind.

I'm sure that everyone is wondering where I am going with all of this, and here it is. I have to wonder if advances in home electronics have not only helped us grow as a society, but somehow choked us as people and are holding us back from being human. I see so many people around me and in the world that can't possibly survive their day to day life without electronics. They can't imagine a day without a cell phone, television, or game system. What started as simple communication and entertainment devices have turned into things that, for lack of better terms, rule our lives.I know people who can't even go to the bathroom without their cell phone. I know people that spend every waking moment away from work playing video games. I know people who sit and either read online or play games just the same. We are addicted, and we are reliant on each and every one of them in some form, whether we will admit it or not.

I'm aware that we live a lot differently than most of society. We aren't "the norm". I get that. But sometimes I have to look around and see how people live so differently that I'm not making myself an outcast from the norm, the norm is making me an outcast from it. I can't say we don't own any electronics. We do both have cell phones, and obviously we own a computer, but that's as far as we go. We don't have cable or satellite tv. We have an old, regular, boxy tv that we use to watch the occasional dvd. We don't own any type of game system, portable book reading device, or the latest phone capable of more than this old computer running WIndows 98. We've made our decisions based on our choices of how to live, and quite frankly, we never plan to go back.

I'm not saying everyone should make the choices we have. I'm not going to suggest to everyone that they toss the tv out of the window and concentrate on nothing but growing and raising their own food. I'm just asking that people take a step back and see what these things are doing to us. Everyone laughs at those old pictures from the 50's with the entire family huddled around the tiny black and white television. At the very least, they were together. Now look around and see that everyone in the family has their own tv, phone, computer, and game system in their own rooms. The dad is playing a war game, the mom is watching a chick-flick, the son is playin a guitar-playing game, and the little sister is on a social networking site talking about her teachers mole.

Take a day sometime and turn off all the electronics. Unplug for a while. Leave the tv and computer off. Leave your cell phone alone except for calls. Go outside and get some fresh air. Go to the library or book store and get a book. No, not from an online store or an e-book; I mean a good old fashioned paper book. Sit back and relax. Educate yourself. Go for a walk in the woods or the park. Sit under a tree and enjoy nature. Go home and plant something, then watch it grow. Think about that new electronics purchase. Do you really NEED it?

Moon 330A and the first 5 watts of Class A      Cache   Translate Page
ah huh. so, 90db (spl) is still 90db (spl) no matter the Class however all things being considered there may or may not be a noticeable change in some frequency high or low in the crossover between the two.. Thats exactly what got me to thinking about the actual volume (DB spl) of a claimed amount of watts in Class A. So many variables in peoples speaker efficiency, rooms acoustics, volume preferences or even volume realities based on chidren or where the room is etc that where one person's set up and circumstance may need 25watt of Class A for their system another might survice happily with 10watt and if in party the amp switching to Class A/B is probably a good thing as its cooler and pumps more power + for a party level volume that ultimate sound is maybe not as critical? i think i have a better grasp on this, i'll go toy with the calculator a bit.

On-line aid helps men make prostate choices      Cache   Translate Page

An on-line calculator can give patients with prostate cancer a highly accurate prognosis – enabling them to choose whether to undergo treatment or not, British researchers announced last night.

The PREDICT Prostate tool has an accuracy of more than 80% and gives patients individual predictions, according to its Cambridge University developers.

This compares with current UK guidelines which offer accuracy of up to 70%.

Patients can ask the tool about the effect of treatment on their survival chances, getting full details of the chances of success and the risk of side-effects.

The researchers reported details of their work in PLoS Medicine last night.

They developed the tool by analysing records of 10,000 patients in a regional registry in the east of England and then validating their findings using a sample of 2,500 patients in Singapore.

They then conducted a randomised study of 200 prostate cancer specialists. This found that doctors were more likely to recommend treatment than PREDICT Prostate – and then reconsidered their treatment proposal when challenged by the tool.

Developer Dr David Thurtle said: “As far as we are aware, this is the first personalised tool to give an overall survival estimate for men following a prostate cancer diagnosis.

“PREDICT Prostate is designed for men who are considering whether to choose to monitor or to opt for treatment. This is the choice that faces nearly half of all men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer.

"We hope it will provide a more accurate and objective estimate to help men reach an informed decision in discussion with their consultant.”

Fellow researcher Dr Vincent Gnanapragasam said: “We believe this tool could significantly reduce the number of unnecessary – and potentially harmful – treatments that patients receive and save the NHS millions every year.

“This isn’t about rationing treatments – it’s about empowering patients and their clinicians to make decisions based on better evidence.

"In some cases, treatment will be the right option, but in many others, patients will want to weigh up the treatment benefits versus the risks of side effects. It will also show men who do need treatment a realistic estimate of their survival after treatment.”

Man Meets Man, Men Become Women,
Women Beat Up Women Who Want To Be Men?

Okay, this is one of the few times Diogenes has needed both a calculator and the Urban Dictionary to figure out what the hell an article was about:
"In what has been described as a “horrifying” incident two women were attacked by a group of men who identified themselves as “transgender women” at the Portland State University “Law and Disorder Conference” which billed itself as a “provocative space for comparative critical dialogue between activists, revolutionaries, educators, artists, musicians, scholars, dancers, actors and writers”.
The women were attacked in a coordinated assault as they sat at a table which sold feminist books and literature. The men destroyed the books and marked up the table display with permanent markers. One of the women was also marked up by the men.
Predominantly male conference onlookers by all reports allowed the attack to take place, watching in stunned silence. Two males affiliated with the same group as the feminists - Deep Green Resistance - were also in attendance and the “trans women” threw a projectile at the head of one of them.
According to reports, the transgender males or “trans women” took issue with the feminist content in the Deep Green Resistance materials. Specifically, a portion of the materials reflected the feminist position that social roles based on sex are undesirable and harmful to women........"
Now Diogenes is just a little confused as to what happened here.

Notice in italics part of the article that says the “predominantly male onlookers allowed the attack to take place.” Keep in mind that’s assuming that the male onlookers were actually male.” Diogenes would not rush to judgement on that lest I be taken as a BLTaphobe.

Also, even if the males were actually male, which they probably might or could have possibly been or not, why in the world would the onlookers defend feminists against their transgender attackers? That could, or may not possibly so or possibly not, be construed as a sexual hate crime against an oppressed group.

Best leave all the bitches alone and let them slap each other senseless until small trickles of blood drip from their collective noses.

Nike Inc: Cost of Capital Essay      Cache   Translate Page
The Weighted bonny Cost of Capital (WACC) is the overall required pace of return on a firm as a whole. It is important to work a firms toll of capital in order to plant the feasibility of a particular investment for a firm.I do not agree with Joanna Cohens WACC calculation. She reckon value of equity, value of debt, speak to of equity, and represent of debt all in doly. For value of equity, Joanna simply used the number utter on the balance sheet instead of multiplying the current line of reasoning hurt by the number of outstanding shares. The aline calculation is $42.09 x 271.5M = $11,427.435M. The correct method of calculating the value of debt is to multiply the cost of publicly traded bonds by the amount of debt outstanding. This calculation results in 95.60% x $1296.6M = $1,239.550M. The sum of debt and equity is embody to $12,666.985M.Therefore, the weight of equity is 0.902 and the weight of debt is 0.098. In order to determine the cost of debt, the yield to matur ity of the debt must be calculated. Using a financial calculator (N=30, PV=-$95.60, PMT=$3.375, FV=$100), the YTM is equal to 7.24%. This is the cost of debt. The cost of equity can be determined using the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). Joanna was correct in using the 20-year yield on U.S. treasuries as her risk-free rate and was also correct in using 5.90% as her risk premium. However, she should moderate only used the most recent years beta instead of using an average of multiple years. The correct calculation is 5.74% + 0.83(5.90%) = 10.64%. This is cost of equity. Using a 38% tax rate, we can now calculate the WACC. WACC = 90.2%(10.64%) + 9.80%(7.24%)(1-38%) = 10.03%Using the Dividend Discount Model, the cost of equity can be calculated as the sum of the dividend yield and the dividend growth rate. In this case, it is ($0.48/$42.09) + 5.50% = 6.64%. Using the lucre capitalization ratio, the cost of equity can be arrived at by dividing the projected earnings per share by the current market price of the stock. Therefore, $2.32/$42.09 = 5.51% is the cost of equity using this model. The advantage of using CAPM is that it is relatively short to calculate, but a disadvantage is that it assumes perfect asset valuation, which does not everlastingly happen in reality. An advantage of the dividend discount model is that it allows investors to value stocks base on the dividends they give way and it is also easy to calculate. However, not all companies pay dividends so another method would have to be used for those firms.Kimi pass over concluded that at discount rates below 11.17%, Nikes stock would be undervalued. At Nikes cost of capital rate of 10.03%, Kimi cut across should invest in the company.

No Medical Exam Life Insurance      Cache   Translate Page

Need life insurance quickly? Worried about being denied? No medical exam life insurance may be the best bet. Learn more about your choices and how to apply below.

Shopping for life insurance can be a complicated process, especially when you need a medical exam to qualify. Not everyone qualifies for traditional life insurance policies. But you still have options with no exams and quick underwriting.

Keep reading to see if no medical exam life insurance is the right choice to protect you and your family.

What is no medical exam life insurance?

Most insurance companies require a medical exam. This involves meeting with a medical professional who will:

  • Ask In-Depth Health Questions
  • Measure Your Height and Weight
  • Get a Blood Pressure Reading and Pulse/Resting Heart Rate
  • Take Blood and Urine Samples

If the results indicate a health condition or chronic illness, you could be denied a policy or have to pay a higher premium.

Depending on the company, you may have the option to skip the medical exam, particularly if you know you have a chronic condition or special circumstance. (Being a smoker or having a dangerous job or hobby are two examples.)

Skipping the exam typically means underwriting decisions are quicker. But these policies typically cost more AND provide less coverage than a medically underwritten policy.

Why? Because the insurance company has less knowledge about the risk they're taking to insure you.

TIP: Opt for the exam if you are young and healthy. It may be worth the extra time and effort to get a cheaper policy that leaves more dollars in your pocket.

What are the different types of no medical exam insurance?

There are generally two types of no medical exam insurance:

Guaranteed Issue
With this policy, you avoid the medical exam and underwriters do not even get to see your medical records. This generally is considered a last resort for coverage.

When you apply, the insurance company will ask you a variety of generic, yes/no questions like:

  • Do you smoke or use tobacco?
  • Are you currently residing in a hospital?
  • Do you have HIV or AIDS?
  • Have you been declared terminally ill?

Based on those answers, the company will decide whether to insure you or not. This will usually take place within 24-48 hours.

If you are approved, your policy will likely come with a graded death benefit.

This means if you were to pass away within 2-3 years of buying the policy, your beneficiary would only get a refund on the premiums you paid (and interest), NOT the full payout.

If you live beyond three years and continue to pay the premium on the policy, your beneficiary would then qualify for the full death benefit amount.

You Should Know: The graded death benefit is meant to ensure you don't lie on your application. It protects the insurance company from significant financial loss on your policy.

Simplified Issue
Also called "final expense insurance," this type of policy also doesn't involve a medical exam. But underwriters will ask more thorough questions and have access to your medical records.

These questions are meant to be more in-depth and telling of your health and medical conditions. They include:

  • Are you currently employed and have you actively and continuously participated in the duties of your regular occupation on a full-time basis for the past 6 months?

  • Within the past 24 months, have you used or are you using narcotics, amphetamines or any controlled substance, other than on the advice of a physician?

  • Are you now receiving, or in the past 12 months have you received, chemo or radiation therapy for cancer?

  • Do you require any assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, indoor or outdoor mobility, or eating, or do you use oxygen?

Depending on your answers and your medical records, you may not be approved for coverage. This policy is typically less expensive but still costs more than medically underwritten policies.

Keep reading to learn more about the pros and cons of no medical exam policies.

Pros of No Exam Life Insurance

There are many benefits to a no exam policy depending on the coverage and policy type you are looking for.

  • Avoid Getting Denied Unnecessarily: With a policy requiring a medical exam, you could be denied due to an undiagnosed health condition. Or your approved rate may be significantly higher each month than your original quote.

  • It's Faster: You don't need to schedule an exam, go to a facility, get the exam, and wait for the results to reach the insurer. As such, a no medical exam policy approval process goes much faster. It's also less likely you will procrastinate scheduling and getting the exam. So you'll get the coverage you need when you need it.

  • The Application is Shorter and Simpler: You can often just answer questions online. The questions usually involve simple yes/no answers.

With a medical exam policy, the applications are much longer, thorough and detailed. So they typically are more time consuming to complete.

In some cases, you may also have to talk on the phone to an insurer. But typically these questions are still simpler than if you had to take a medical exam.

  • Faster Approval Times: You will be approved faster than if you did take an exam. However, the speed depends on if you are applying for a Guaranteed Issue or Simplified Issue policy.

Because the underwriter will likely ask for your medical records with a Simplified Issue policy, approval could take a little longer.

  • Easier to Qualify: By only having to answer questions online (or over the phone, in some cases), you are much more likely to qualify than you are if you took a medical exam.

  • Some Carriers Allow Direct Online Sign-Up: Some insurance companies now allow you to complete your application by yourself online.

This gives you the opportunity to fill out and submit the application, and receive an answer—all without talking to a real person.

While there are clear benefits, no medical exam insurance does have some drawbacks. We cover those below.

Cons of No Exam Life Insurance

Before you apply, know the downsides to this type of policy.

  • More Expensive: The underwriter doesn't have in-depth, or in some cases any, knowledge of your health history.

This mean they are taking a much greater risk by insuring you, so they are going to charge you a higher monthly premium. This covers them in case you die before paying off the policy.

  • Fewer Coverage Options: Coverage amounts tend to be lower for no exam insurance (more on that below).

  • Underwriting May Be Unavoidable: Even without a medical exam, an underwriter may do research on you.

Underwriters may look at several reports, including:

      • Medical Information Bureau (MIB) Report: Your MIB Report can show previous or existing medical records, prescription medication history, adverse driving records, and other information that could raise a red flag with your insurance company.

      • Prescription Drug Report: This report reviews claims data. It shares the kind of prescriptions you've taken in the past (or are taking), how often you refill, and if you take them as directed by your physician.

      • Medical Records: You may be asked to provide permission to the underwriter to contact your current physician for access to your medical records. This will give additional support to the MIB Report they pulled on you.

      • Motor Vehicle Report: This provides information in addition to the MIB report. It will give the insurer information as to whether you have speeding tickets or a DUI in the past.

Why opt for a no medical exam policy?

A no medical exam life insurance policy may work better for your situation than one with a medical exam requirement. Consider:

Is a Life Insurance Policy Being Mandated in a Divorce Decree?
In many settlements, alimony payments are owed to the other spouse, which would cease upon his or her death.

To combat that, you should have a life insurance policy to protect those payments if the ex-spouse passes away. If it's a legal obligation, you may need coverage quickly.

Were You Declined for Life Insurance in the Past?
If you've previously applied for an exam policy and were denied, you may have a better chance of being accepted with a no exam policy.

Even though you still have to answer questions about your health, these underwriters are often more lenient with requirements. You may also be able to get covered under higher premiums for a condition you were denied for with another carrier.

Do You Need to Secure a Business Loan?
Many bank lenders require a life insurance policy on the person applying for the loan. This covers the bank if the person passes away before paying off the full cost of the loan.

If you are already going through the loan process and didn't realize you needed a life insurance policy, you may have to get one quickly to avoid stalling the loan process.

Do You Have a Dangerous Job or Hobby?
Often, you'll be denied coverage with a traditional company. They simply don't want to take on the risk of you dying before paying off the full policy.

However, without the medical exam and more lenient questions, this may not be an issue for a no exam policy.

Have You Seen a Doctor Recently?
If you haven't been to your doctor in several years, you don't know what your blood work or other medical tests may show.

If something does come up, you could easily be denied coverage. You may want to play it safe by applying for a policy with no medical exam.

How Do You Plan to Use the Policy?
Do you want life insurance coverage as protection for your family to pay off final costs? Or to help raise your family if you die prematurely?

Then a policy with an exam may be a better option for you. The coverage amounts are typically higher and you likely will pay significantly less money in premiums.

How Fast Do You Need It?
Most traditional underwriting takes 4-8 weeks or longer. But with a no exam policy, you could get coverage in as little as 24 hours (or less if they offer online policy purchase).

If you have a lapse in coverage, your policy is expired, or you need immediate coverage for another reason, this might be a good choice for you.

Do You Have a Fear of Needles?
Most people don't enjoy getting stuck with a needle. But for some, this can be a deal breaker.

During a medical exam for a policy, you'll be required to get blood drawn. If you can't even fathom the thought, a no exam policy might be the route for you.

What Should I Look for When Deciding on a Type of Policy?

When it comes to no medical exam insurance, you have several options. But how do you know what to look for when deciding on the right policy for you?

You should make the best decision based on your needs. Here are some common application mistakes to avoid:

    • Not Comparing Companies
    • Paying Too Much
    • Settling for the First Company You Find
    • Assuming You Only Have 1 or 2 Options

When comparing policies, make sure you pay particular attention to these features:

Death Benefits: Understand what percentage of the death benefit will be paid to your beneficiary. And make sure you know when it will be paid out.

For example, some companies take two or three years to reach 100% payout.

Premium Amount: You should know how much your monthly premium will be and when it is due. Think about the affordability of the premium, especially if something were to happen and you didn't have a steady income for a few months.

Typically these no exam policies cost more. If you can't afford the premium, you may want to take the time to complete a medical exam for a lower premium policy.

If an exam policy is not an option, make sure you compare different company quotes to get the most affordable premium.

Insurance Carrier: After getting quotes, you'll want to research the companies before making a final decision. Remember: price isn't everything.

Look at star ratings and reviews on the company, both professional (like Standard & Poor's, A.M. Best, Fitch, and/or Moody's) and peer (current or past customers). And pay attention to their financial strength and claim paying reputation, as well as customer service.

Type of Policy: There are two different types of life insurance policies: term and whole. While not all insurers offer both types of policies, you should check to make sure the company you are considering offers what you need.

To find out more details about the differences between term and whole insurance, check out our in-depth comparison:
    Term vs Whole Life Insurance.

  • Convenience: No exam policy is meant to be easier and quicker to purchase compared to a traditional exam policy. When you are quoting and applying for one of these policies, you want to make sure that's actually true.

How do you get life insurance without a medical exam?

Once you've done your research, you can get a no exam life insurance policy the same way as a traditional one.

  1. Get Several Quotes
  2. Submit an Application
  3. Wait for Approval

Get Several Quotes: You can request quotes in person, over the phone or online. Select the policy quote that's best for you.

Submit an Application: The application will consist of a variety of simple questions about your general health.

When you apply for coverage, underwriters (who work for the insurance company) will determine the risk your life insurance policy would create for the insurance company.

Healthier people have less risk, as opposed to unhealthier people (with a chronic or unmanaged condition) whose policy presents a greater risk. The greater your risk, the less likely you are to be approved.

Wait for Approval: Once you submit your application, the underwriter determines your risk. They may also seek more information, like requesting medical records from your doctor.

If this is not necessary, you are typically approved for the coverage and the policy goes into effect. When records are requested, it may take longer for approval. The underwriter will analyze the risk and determine the coverage amount they will offer you.

Insurance Fraud: Two-Year Contestability Period

Because there is no documented health exam, it's much easier for people to commit insurance fraud with Guaranteed or Simple Issue policies. They do this by lying to the underwriter about their health to influence the company into approving them.

Remember: Lying to underwriters during your application or in the survey is insurance fraud.

Also, most insurance companies have something called a two-year contestability period. This means they can deny a claim for life insurance within the first two years after it is issued.

If you die within those first two years (perhaps because you weren't honest about a terminal illness), the company will likely reopen your case. They will attempt to uncover documentation of any false answers.

If they find that you weren't honest in your original application, they can withhold payment from the beneficiaries. In other words, your beneficiaries won't get the death benefit payout.

Companies can even deny your claim, meaning you aren't covered by the insurance policy at all.

TIP: ALWAYS be truthful on your life insurance application and when answering questions related to your eligibility and health. It's illegal to do otherwise.

Plus, it can hurt you in the long term when your beneficiaries don't get the payout they were expecting.

Formula Calculator does not imitate a pocket calculator - type mathematical expressions directly in and Formula Calculator evaluates them on the go. You can assign parameter names to results and use them in all subsequent expressions, just like working out a math problem on paper. And when you're done, email the math, results and graphs to colleagues and friends.

Formula Calculator:iP has been engineered especially for your iPhone. Switch between custom keypads with a simple swipe action to enter text, numbers or functions, or create, format and view your graphs. There are eight quick function keys that you can assign to any function. All the parameter names that you use appear in a list for quick entry into the calculator.

There are many built-in scientific functions or you can define your own, simply by typing it into your iPhone. Save them for later if you use them often. You can define your own constants and save them for use in any arithmetic expression. Formula Calculator also has a list of commonly used physical constants.

Formula Calculator works like an advanced scientific math tool used on desk top computers, but at a tiny fraction of the cost. Plus you take it with you anywhere your phone goes. It includes advanced functions for numerical differentiation, integration, working with complex numbers, finding complex roots (zeroes) of functions, Fourier transforms and matrix manipulation. Included is a quick start guide and online comprehensive help.

FormulaCalculator:iP is an ideal companion to Formula Calculator for Mac OSX and iPad. Designed by a scientist for applications in science, engineering and education.

What's New

An old-fashioned calculator interface has been included that runs the great Formula Calculator mathematics engine - ideal for quick calculations. It includes an almost-infinite "stack" for saving results of previous calculations that can be recalled.

Plus some known bugs have been taken out and sent back to the forest ...

{Review} SMALL SPACES by Katherine Arden      Cache   Translate Page

O P E N I N G   H O O K:

October in East Evansburg, and the last warm sun of the year slanted red through the sugar maples. Olivia Adler sat nearest the big window in Mr. Easton’s math class, trying, catlike, to fit her entire body into a patch of light. She wished she were on the other side of the glass. You don’t waste October sunshine.

(Page 1, US hardcover edition)

“When the mist rises, and the smiling man comes walking, you must avoid large places at night.
                                    Keep to small.”

It is so hard to find a middle-grade book that is just the right amount of spine-tingling. One of my favorites to recommend is JUNIPER BERRY by M.P. Kozlowsky, which is no longer well-known. Then, of course, you have well-established titles such as CORALINE by Neil Gaiman and entire catalogs from authors such as Mary Downing Hahn and R.L. Stine. Another book in the genre I really love is DOLL BONES by Holly Black, which is a Newbery Honor title. Today, I'd like to introduce you to the new kid on the block, SMALL SPACES by Katherine Arden.

Initially, I knew about Arden because she wrote the popular adult fantasy Winternight trilogy, which begins with the much-acclaimed THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE. I had no clue what SMALL SPACES was about when I first heard of it -- or even that Arden had written a middle-grade novel! -- but I instantly knew I wanted it.

Ollie hasn't been the same since her mother died. Teachers and classmates still look at her with pity. She still gets a pass for tuning out the world and retreating into herself. She has no desire in going back to the hobbies she once loved such as softball and chess. One day on her way home from school, she sees some classmates bullying the new girl, Coco, and throws a rock at them, then flees. She wants nothing to do with them, and doesn't want to be Coco's friend. On her way home, she finds a desperate woman trying to destroy a book in a river and steals it for herself. The woman screams for her to keep to small spaces and avoid large ones at all costs, or the Smiling Man will find her. Ollie has no clue what that means and assumes the lady is crazy. She begins reading the book, entitled SMALL SPACES, which is a written account of two brothers who went missing long before she was born.

The next day, Ollie finds herself at the farm where the brothers once lived on a school trip, not realizing that the two are connected until it is far too late. When the trip home is halted by a bus breakdown, Ollie discovers that the Smiling Man is real -- and he wants her classmates. She flees the bus along with Coco and Brian (The boy she threw rocks at the day before, once more connecting the three of them together) and finds out the truth behind the brothers' disappearance, the Smiling Man, and the fate of their classmates -- and, perhaps, even themselves...

Arden deftly weaves words together to create a tense atmosphere and keep readers on their edge of their seats. Lines such as, "Then he smiled, tongue flicking red against his teeth" (Page, 96, US hardcover edition), bring images of serpents and tricksters to mind, and this use of language to give normal, every day actions a spine-tingling factor is utilized well. This book is spooky, and you might not look at scarecrows the same way again. But it isn't so scary that you'll forever have nightmares and be traumatized by clowns. It is appropriate for younger readers, and will even give chills to older readers, achieving a great balance that not all spooky fiction can.

Ollie was a standout character. When I took a secondary education course in college about integrating books into classrooms no matter the course (History, Physical Education, Art, etc), a friend who wanted to be a math teacher really struggled to find a book she could use in her classroom. I still think about her and that course every time I encounter a book that uses math. Ollie is AMAZING at math. She "doesn't use a calculator or scratch paper. The idea of using either had always puzzled her, as though someone had suggested she needed a spyglass to read a book" (page 3, US hardcover edition). Her mother was a college math professor and taught Ollie the tricks she needed to have math feel like second nature. "She had taught Ollie math with games. Multiplication, division. Later algebra, and then geometry: symbols like magic spells, written on the skin of the world" 9page 2, US hardcover edition). She even taught Ollie chess, and thought her daughter was a natural in a way she hadn't been. I love seeing girls good at math and science in books and am so glad to add Ollie to their ranks.

I also love the fact that Arden captures those awkward middle-school years. Few middle-grade books seem to capture them effectively. One of the most memorable is actually one I referenced earlier, DOLL BONES by Holly Black. I can still recall the way she described a boy as being "stretched like taffy" and the way the friends were trapped between still playing with dolls and being too old for them, etc. It is one of my most cherished examples of those awkward years. While Arden doesn't have those awkward moments in SMALL SPACES, she still manages to capture the essence of it. On the first page, she talks about classroom cruelty almost casually. There is a boy who has a phobia when it comes to witnessing people lick napkins, so of course, everyone in class does it around him as much as possible. Coco gets bullied because she has a crush on Brian and someone discovered her notebook with a drawing of the two of them. That's when Ollie stepped in with a rock, and the next day, the three are joined in trying to unfurl a mystery and save their classmates. At times, as a reader, I wondered if maybe Brian liked Ollie, and that's why he saved her from detention or got a little red in the ears when she sat next to him. The book doesn't act on any of these emotions and there's no romance, but it captures that age where we don't always recognize the ways we're changing and evolving just yet.

Writing this review today, I just found out that SMALL SPACES is getting a sequel, entitled DEAD VOICES. It's scheduled to be published August 27th, 2019, and features a brand-new adventure that has nothing to do with the first, other than the fact that Ollie, Coco, and Brian are now best friends. They go to a ski resort together for winter break and Ollie begins to think a ghost is following her around. I'm already here for this book! It felt like Arden was laying down roots for these characters, and we barely got to scrape the tip of their friendship by the end of SMALL SPACES. I'm so excited to see how they've grown and evolved and now figure into one another's lives, and think this is a great way to return to their world without feeling like we've been on this journey before! (Plus, as an older reader, it might be nice to see if any of the seeds for potential crushes come to fruition as the kids get older!)

C O V E R   D E S I G N:

This is one of those books that looks creepy and atmospheric, and then once you've READ it, it looks really spooky. Because now you know why all of these items are on the cover. That lurking scarecrow, the ones in the distance, the broken down buses...

Also, a shoutout to designer Matt Saunders for the incredible use of silhouette to create an alluring image. I love that the title, SMALL SPACES, is made out of tree branches -- and how spooky is that? We have a shadow of a scarecrow that could be part of the tree. And those leaves that look like bats or butterfly wings? Superb!

This is a great, atmospheric cover, and I think readers looking for a creepy read will pick this up instantly!

SUMMARY:

The bestselling adult author of The Bear and the Nightingale makes her middle grade debut with a creepy, spellbinding ghost story destined to become a classic.

After suffering a tragic loss, eleven-year-old Ollie only finds solace in books. So when she happens upon a crazed woman at the river threatening to throw a book into the water, Ollie doesn't think--she just acts, stealing the book and running away. As she begins to read the slender volume, Ollie discovers a chilling story about a girl named Beth, the two brothers who both loved her, and a peculiar deal made with "the smiling man," a sinister specter who grants your most tightly held wish, but only for the ultimate price.

Ollie is captivated by the tale until her school trip the next day to Smoke Hollow, a local farm with a haunting history all its own. There she stumbles upon the graves of the very people she's been reading about. Could it be the story about the smiling man is true? Ollie doesn't have too long to think about the answer to that. On the way home, the school bus breaks down, sending their teacher back to the farm for help. But the strange bus driver has some advice for the kids left behind in his care: "Best get moving. At nightfall they'll come for the rest of you." Nightfall is, indeed, fast descending when Ollie's previously broken digital wristwatch, a keepsake reminder of better times, begins a startling countdown and delivers a terrifying message: RUN.

Only Ollie and two of her classmates heed the bus driver's warning. As the trio head out into the woods--bordered by a field of scarecrows that seem to be watching them--the bus driver has just one final piece of advice for Ollie and her friends: "Avoid large places. Keep to small."

And with that, a deliciously creepy and hair-raising adventure begins.

When Vikings Attack! - Ghid de supravietuire in caz de... vikingi!      Cache   Translate Page

ATENTIE CETATENI!

Am iesit afara, am smuls banca din fata blocului si am aruncat-o in vikingi. Dubios, dar dupa ce i-am lovit, deasupra lor a aparut un pop-up pe care scria "Superb", ceea ce ne-a incurajat sa continuam:  am smuls un gard si am aruncat din nou in grupul de vikingi. Alt pop-up: "Combo"!

When Vikings Attack!
