Looking for the Perfect UX/UI Tools? Check Out These Great Ones      Cache   Translate Page

This sponsored article was created by our content partner, BAW Media. Thank you for supporting the partners who make SitePoint possible.

As the saying goes: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". More companies than ever are beginning to heed this advice. They're realizing that it is okay to make an extra effort to avoid usability issues. It is far less expensive than having to resolve problems later.

Debugging a software application before launch is a standard operating procedure. Any bugs that manage to sneak through can be potential troublemakers. Most problems users encounter are usability issues. These can and should be addressed during the initial prototyping.

Check for potential usability issues early in the design phase. Even though this often requires additional time and budget, it saves money in the long term. Designers and project managers need to think in terms of ROI. This is instead of working to satisfy short-term goals.

The right tools and resources can be invaluable for getting things right. All this at minimal extra expense.

Let's look at several of the best.

1. Mason

Mason

Mason provides a front-end feature building experience par excellence. Designed for modern teams, it enables them to come together to create front-end features for their apps efficiently and economically.

With Mason you can bypass additional prototyping, wireframing, or additional coding to get the job done. Mason integrates seamlessly into your existing code base to significantly shorten development and deployments cycles. It also enables teams to react and adapt to a feature-building state of affairs with lightning speed, often saving a ton of money in the process.

More than anything else, Mason's feature-building capabilities allow teams to respond immediately to user or customer needs. Teams can provide users with solutions that are sound, extensible, secure, and reliable; and allow a team's developers to work on more complex or higher priority projects.

Mason won't weigh your site or app down. It's an invaluable tool for a team to have on hand when they're responsible for maintaining one or more software products or solutions. It's triggered whenever needed, and only when needed.

2. UXPin

UXPin is a designer's dream. This fundamentally different design tool is used in companies like PayPal and Microsoft to build realistic prototypes, with the powers of code components, logic, states, and design systems. With its extensive library of design components, UXPin can be used to create prototypes that look and feel like real products, from start to finish without ever leaving the app.

UXPin provides powerful team collaboration and product handoff features as well. Since it's cloud-based, you can prototype and collaborate from browsers as well as desktop apps – both on Mac OS and Windows. Easily iterate from low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototypes that feature complex interactions and look real without a need for any other tools.

With this all-in-one web and app design tool, you can ensure consistency across product lines while at the same time reducing design, development, and deployment time and costs.

3. Interfacer

Interfacer is a great source of free design resources to have at your fingertips. Their collection of more than 300 resources includes web template libraries, eCommerce, blockchain, travel app and other UI kits, more than 80 different icon mini libraries, and nearly 100 mockup solutions.

Feel free to use any of these high-quality free design aids on commercial projects.

4. Webflow

If you're in the market for an all-in-one tool to design, build, and launch fully customized and responsive websites, Webflow is a great choice.

With Webflow, you can also create a customized and client-friendly CMS for every site and enjoy super-fast, managed hosting, all without coding or troublesome setup issues. Webflow is also the ideal solution for prototyping and for building eCommerce solutions – also without coding.

Why should you care about UX and these tools?

A Well-Designed UI can Help to Increase Conversions

You've been there before, probably many times. Let's say you're doing some comparison shopping for a product or service. You have come across several websites that address your problem.

One clearly stands out.

You easily found the information you needed. Your experience was in fact so enjoyable that you bookmarked the website.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to design a website or app like that one?

Increase Your Brand Loyalty with UX Design

A good user experience accomplishes a great deal for a business. Your site's UX can contribute greatly to build trust in your brand, your product, or your service. It can play a vital role in establishing a relationship with your customers.

A friendly UX encourages customer activation and fosters loyalty to your brand. Same goes for your products and services.

Don't Forget the Importance of Word-of-Mouth Referrals

Whether it's a book, a movie, a YouTube video, or a website, people like to share things they enjoy with others. People buy into good experiences, and if you provide them, they're going to tell the world about them.

You should make the buying process not just easy, but as easy as possible for a customer. That customer is going to remember it – and recommend it to others to experience.

Conclusion

What you want and expect from a top UX or UI tool or source naturally depends on your needs. But those we've presented here have several things in common that should appeal to you.

They can save you time and money, the tools are fast, efficient, and reliable. The resource for design aids can relieve you of having to reinvent the wheel.

QFC forges new partnerships in France      Cache   Translate Page

The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), one of the world’s leading and fastest growing onshore business and financial centres, signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Paris EUROPLACE and Finance Innovation, to support the growth of Qatar’s booming digital industry.

Paris EUROPLACE is responsible for promoting and developing the Paris financial marketplace. Finance Innovation was launched by the French Ministry for the Economy and Finance in 2007 to stimulate the Paris financial centre, and encompasses 480 member organisations and companies.

The agreements aim to support the development of the digital industry in Qatar, the exchange of expertise in innovation trends, cross-promoting start-ups in France and Qatar, as well as developing appropriate incentive packages to attract international and local companies operating in the digital and technology industry to establish a long-term presence in Qatar. The signing ceremonies were attended by H.E. Sheikh Ali bin Jassem Al Thani, Ambassador for the State of Qatar to France, Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, CEO, QFC Authority, Sheikha Alanoud Bint Hamad Al-Thani, Managing Director, Business Development, QFC Authority, as well as other QFC officials and high-level executives of Paris EUROPLACE and Finance Innovation.

Additionally, QFC officials addressed the audience of the WISE@Paris Summit, which is a Qatar Foundation Initiative. The event gathered 800 French, European and international stakeholders, among them political decision makers, social entrepreneurs, innovators, NGOs and students, to discuss and collaborate on actionable and innovative solutions in education, and was sponsored by the QFC. The QFC’s attending delegation was led by Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer, QFC Authority who provided a keynote speech at the WISE Summit reception, and included Sheikha Alanoud Bint Hamad Al-Thani, Managing Director of Business Development, QFC Authority – who provided the keynote speech to a UNESCO panel titled “A Future of Work For All”, which was held in Station F - the world’s largest business incubator.

On his part, H.E Ambassador Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim Al-Thani, made a special reference to the Strategic Dialogue declaration of intent which has been signed earlier this month in Doha between the State of Qatar and France. He stressed that signing this MOU, between QFC and Paris EUROPLACE and Finance Innovation, is in line with the letter and spirit of the said Agreement, and considered that signing the MOU is a testimony to the strategic relations between the State of Qatar and France. H.E the Ambassador talked also about the importance of the MOU, in consolidating the strategic relations between the State of Qatar and France.

He expressed his confidence that signing the MOU will further improve the economic relations between the two countries. He added that relations between our two countries will see further progress in the near future not only in the economic field but in other fields as well and especially in culture. In this regard, H.E Al-Thani said that we will soon celebrate the Qatar-France cultural year 2020 where the two countries will hold and share various cultural activities. He concluded by saying that these cultural activities will send a clear message that relations between Qatar and France are not limited to economic interests but much deeper and more diversified.

Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, Chief Executive Officer, QFC Authority said: “The digitalisation of the economy is a key component of Qatar’s ambitious national initiatives and the Qatar Financial Centre’s mandate, both of which aim to enable further economic diversification. We are confident that by partnering with Paris EUROPLACE and Finance Innovation we can jointly contribute towards the continued success of the digital industry in Qatar. We have also recently announced our new strategy which emphasises key sectors including the digital industry, and these new partnerships follow agreements with key local stakeholders including the Ministry of Transport and Communication as well as the Communication Regulatory Authority.”

Sheikha Alanoud Bint Hamad Al-Thani, Managing Director, Business Development QFC Authority said: “Our agreements with Paris EUROPLACE and Finance Innovation are yet another indication of the Qatar Financial Centre’s commitment to the important European and French markets. By leveraging the expertise of these institutions, particularly in the FinTech industry, we are confident that we can contribute significantly to the growth of the sector in Qatar.”

Arnaud de Bresson, CEO, Paris EUROPLACE expressed: “The Paris financial center and its stakeholders have developed close relations with Qatar financial market players since more than 10 years. The signature of the MOU is an important step to accelerate our cooperation in different sectors such as investment banking, infrastructure financing, asset management but also, in financial innovation, based on a strong support to the Fintechs, particularly in the most innovative fields, Blockchain, AI, new payment solutions…”

Joelle Durieux, CEO, Finance Innovation said: “We are excited about our partnership with QFC and the ample opportunities it will provide to our local startups. Doha is one of the fastest growing FinTech markets and Qatar Financial Centre Authority has paved the way for SMEs to develop and test their products within an internationally-recognised regulatory framework and a robust financial ecosystem. This will ultimately allow French startups to expand their presence into the MENA region and explore further prospects for growth.”

Omran Al-Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Foundation International, said: “WISE is a response to the necessity of revitalizing education and providing a global platform for the development of new ideas and solutions. It has evolved into a thriving global, multi-sectoral community, which continues to generate fruitful dialogue and productive partnerships.” Stavros Yiannouka, CEO, WISE, said: “We believe that our ideas about the future matter in education. Through these ideas we can proactively address the challenges and opportunities posed by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation in the workplace. And we need to seize this moment to rethink what it means to be human.”

Qatar’s digital infrastructure has already achieved significant international rankings including the first globally in Internet Penetration in 2017, as well as ninth globally in ICT adoption according to the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report 2018, as well as many others. Qatar also recently pledged USD $50 million to Kuwait’s investment fund in technology and digital economy across the region, reiterating its continued commitment to developing the digital industry. The QFC’s new MoU agreements are amongst several initiatives to have been launched to spur the growth of the digital industry in Qatar, such as agreements with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as the Communications Regulatory Authority.

The QFC is an onshore jurisdiction that allows registered companies to enjoy competitive benefits, such as working within a legal environment based on English common law, the right to trade in any currency, up to 100% foreign ownership, 100% repatriation of profits, 10% corporate tax on locally sourced profits, and an extensive double taxation avoidance agreement network with 70+ countries.

Dries Buytaert: The Open Web can still win      Cache   Translate Page

Today, the world wide web celebrates its 30th birthday. In 1989, Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web and changed the lives of millions of people around the globe, including mine.

Tim Berners-Lee sitting in front of a computer showing the first websiteTim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, in front of the early web.

Milestones like this get me thinking about the positive impact a free and Open Web has had on society. Without the web, billions of people would not have been able to connect with one another, be entertained, start businesses, exchange ideas, or even save lives. Open source communities like Drupal would not exist.

As optimistic as I am about the web's impact on society, there have been many recent events that have caused me to question the Open Web's future. Too much power has fallen into the hands of relatively few platform companies, resulting in widespread misinformation, privacy beaches, bullying, and more.

However, I'm optimistic that the Open Web has a chance to win in the future. I believe we'll see three important events happen in the next five years.

First, the day will come when regulators will implement a set of laws that govern the ownership and exchange of data online. It's already starting to happen with GDPR in the EU and various state data privacy laws taking shape in the US. These regulations will require platforms like Facebook to give users more control over their data, and when that finally happens, it will be a lot easier for users to move their data between services and for the Open Web to innovate on top of these data platforms.

Second, at some point, governments globally will disempower large platform companies. We can't leave it up to a handful of companies to judge what is false and true, or have them act as our censors. While I'm not recommending governments split up these companies, my hope is that they will institute some level of algorithmic oversight. This will offer an advantage to the Open Web and Open Source.

Third, I think we're on the verge of having a new set of building blocks that enable us to build a better, next-generation web. Thirty years into the web, our data architectures still use a client-server model; data is stored centrally on one computer, so to speak. The blockchain is turning that into a more decentralized web that operates on top of a distributed data layer and offers users control of their own data. Similar to building a traditional website, distributed applications (dApps) require file storage, payment systems, user data stores, etc. All of these components are being rebuilt on top of the blockchain. While we have a long way to go, it is only a matter of time before a tipping point is reached.

In the past, I've publicly asked the question: Can we save the Open Web? I believe we can. We can't win today, but we can keep innovating and get ready for these three events to unfold. The day will come!

With that motivation in mind, I want to wish a special happy birthday to the world wide web!

Blockchain Testing X-Force Red Ibm

Analizza eventuali falle negli smart contract.

"These people are dangerous!" "I warned you..." Lionsgate has just released an official trailer for a "cyber-thriller" set in the high stakes world of blockchain technology titled Crypto, from director John Stalberg Jr. (High School). It didn't take long for someone to make a film involving blockchain, it's the big technology buzzword right now and everyone wants in on it - so why not write a plot involving it. Crypto is about a Wall Street banker who connects a small-town art gallery to a global conspiracy, putting his own family in grave danger. Starring Beau Knapp as the banker, with Kurt Russell, Liam Hemsworth, Alexis Bledel, Vincent Kartheiser, Jill Hennessy, Malaya Rivera Drew, and Gabe Fazio. Surprise, surprise, this looks pretty awful. It's all bark and no bite, with such a contrived and unoriginal plot. Not looking any good.           These P2P blockchain-based services want your computer – and they'll pay you      Cache   Translate Page

Utilizing blockchain's decentralized architecture, smart contracts and cryptocurrency applications, an emerging ecosystem of start-ups is now offering to pay companies and consumers for their computers' unused storage capacity and network bandwidth.

The companies, which use blockchain's peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture to deploy software to disparate computers or servers, then offer services through aggregated resources – from data storage for distributed application development to cybersecurity.

Washington-based Gladius says it has even figured out how to end distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks using excess internet bandwidth from corporations and individuals during down time. This month, it launched its LegionP2P software, which aggregates unused network bandwidth and makes it instantly available to any participating company to fend off inbound DDoS attacks.

Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Wenesday March 13th, 2019      Cache   Translate Page

Domain Shane Domain Shane:
If you read US national news is was hard to miss the story about the bribery scandal to get students into elite schools by buying their way in.  This has been going on a long time.  I just had no idea they were getting paid so much per student.   When my daughter was going through the recruiting process I saw that being an athlete gave you a HUGE advantage in getting in to Ivy League schools.  Especially if you had the ability to pay full tuition.  Ivy Leagues don’t offer scholarships and are purely based on need.  If you have a student that is good but not great and tests well but maybe not high enough that would normally get it, you combine the two and you have a big advantage over other students.   It presents a big opportunity for a coach to use the final 2 or 3 team spots to fill with pay to play parents.  Because a coach’s recommendation can dramatically improve the chances of getting in Ivy league schools.  They aren’t on scholarship so nobody really checks on the progress of the players. All the coach has to do is say they quit after one season and start it all over.  What you are reading about  will absolutely run deeper than just this one person.
Of course, having someone else take the ACT and SAT test are taking it to a whole new level.  As well as faking the athletic ability of an athlete.  The schools pretty much assume that the coach has done the research on the athlete and never checks all the fake info in their file.  There is already so much playing around with athletes, especially in female athletics, because there are limited scholarships.  Many schools are forced to find a student athlete that can either afford to pay the full tuition or is smart enough that they can come on an academic scholarship and play the sport.  They use the scholarships for the star players.  Give half away to them, and divide the others to entice other athletes.  When those run out it goes to the players mentioned above.  But there is often a few spots available that aren’t needed or they can’t fill.  So they’ve been selling them.
I knew it was happening.  Fortunately my daughter was just fast enough and just smart enough to get the combo package. I also felt that 75K wasn’t worth an Ivy league education for undergraduate. Maybe graduate school.  But I could see how the Ivy Leagues coveted her because she could fill roster spots and would have to pay full tuition.  At first I thought it was because she was a good, smart,  runner but I saw her friend and she was faster and had a 35 ACT but didn’t get in.  I can’t prove it, but I think it was because she came from a single parent household and would get a lot of aid.
In short, the system was ripe for picking and I’m glad that its been exposed.  Let the kids that worked hard get in.  Not the parents that worked hard.   Here are today’s names. Make sure to click on the names to see the current price and to help DSAD keep on keeping on.

#278 Daniel Lehnberg & Michael Cordner: Grin - Cypherpunk Mimblewimble      Cache   Translate Page

Three years ago, a mysterious txt file signed by a pseudonymous Tom Elvis Jedusor was dropped in the Bitcoin-Wizards IRC channel outlining a proposal called Mimblewimble. It proposed a novel way of combining many ideas from Bitcoin research in order to create a new blockchain protocol that will be highly scalable and increase privacy, while still using the same cryptographic assumptions as Bitcoin. A few months later this project was picked up by another pseudonymous individual who started working on an implementation he called Grin. Grin slowly began to draw attention from the Bitcoin community and got a lot of traction.

We join Michael Cordner (Yeastplume) and Daniel Lehnberg, two of the core developers of the Grin blockchain. In this episode we discuss some topics around Grin's cypherpunk origins, privacy and scalability features, no-premine fair start, and interesting monetary policy.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Origins of the Mimblewimble proposal and the prior work it draws upon
  • Andrew Poelstra's contributions to improving and fixing the original proposal
  • Scalability and fast sync times achieved through mimblewimble's UTXO set compression
  • How UTXO compression when combined with the Dandellion p2p protocol can increase privacy
  • Changes in user experience from Bitcoin to Mimblewimble
  • Beginning of the Grin project as an implementation of the Mimblewimble protocol
  • Comparision to BEAM, a competing Mimblewimble implementation
  • Innovating on fair Proof of Work through dual Cuckoo Cycle
  • Grin's Monetary Policy and the Mining Fair Start

Telecom ParisTech and Telecom SudParis (campus of Saclay, Paris area)

In a joined project Telecom ParisTech and Telecom SudParis are proposing a 1 year renewable PostDoc on the topic hereunder.

Blockchain, security and privacy issues

The first 6 months consist in delivering a state of the art, plus refining on research objectives. Here are three examples of further specific topics:

A. Anonymization and micropayment channels

Such transactions appear only in a consolidated form in the blockchain. They can be managed by smart contracts, or payment providers, which have a privileged view on these transactions. A point of interest is anonymization and description of possible attacks on anonymity. A long term goal could be designing tools for monitoring and de-anonymisation.

B. Security analysis of the network layer of blockchain

The underlying network of can leak information on the identity of the users/participants. Such analysis was done on the Bitcoin network, but cannot be generalized. The research would consist in selecting another relevant example then analyzing in depth availability / performance / anonymization. Possible tools are tomography of networks, topology analysis or e.g. addresses links.

C. Fully anonymous blockchains

Contrary to Bitcoin [ACM18], Zcash and Monero enable fully anonymous paiments [OM18]. Ethereum on its side makes possible multiparty pooling of transactions [Meiklejohn & Mercer PETS18]. It could be interesting to quantify the practical usage and weaknesses of these tools [Usx18]. Getting used to monitoring tools will be usefull, as well as technological watch (including social media: reddit, discord, medium, telegram or blogs).

Project: Cryptographic Protocols for Scalable Privacy Preserving Blockchains

Current blockchain consensus protocols underpinning the security of cryptocurrencies and smart contracts suffer from a number of bottlenecks that severely limit the transaction throughput of such systems. Moreover, the few cryptocurrencies that offer strong privacy guarantees are not compatible with the current techniques for achieving higher throughputs. Besides scalability concerns, current privacy preserving cryptocurrencies and smart contracts are also incompatible with legal financial regulations since they do not allow for lawful audits.

The successful candidate will work on a project aiming at solving these issues by means of more efficient consensus protocols and multiparty computation techniques. We will investigate efficient cryptographic protocols for two main tasks: (1) scalable blockchain based consensus compatible with privacy preserving cryptocurrencies and (2) accountable privacy preserving cryptocurrency and smart contract systems that adhere to financial regulations. The research will be focused on developing new provably secure frameworks for building such protocols with high concrete efficiency.

This project will be carried out in cooperation with the Concordium Foundation.

Qualifications:

We are looking for motivated candidates with a background in discrete mathematics and/or theoretical computer science. Experience with distributed systems or cryptography will be considered an advantage. Candidates should have an MsC degree (or equivalent) or a BsC degree plus one year of Master level studies (equivalent to 4 years of studies).

Closing date for applications: 25 March 2019

Patents have always been controversial in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space because most projects are established on the premise of decentralization and open source code. It’s for this very reason that the notion of intellectual property (IP) is incredibly contentious. We wanted to get a better idea about the amount of cryptocurrency and blockchain-related patents filed and published across the globe to identify key trends and gather information on the most active entities in the space.  In order to do this, Hard Fork gathered the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) website data using the following search terms: blockchain, block chain, Bitcoin,…

Overcoming Cryptographic Impossibility Results using Blockchains, by Rishab Goyal and Vipul Goyal      Cache   Translate Page
Blockchain technology has the potential to disrupt how cryptography is done. In this work, we propose to view blockchains as an "enabler", much like indistinguishability obfuscation (Barak et al., CRYPTO 2001, Garg et al., FOCS 2013, and Sahai and Waters, STOC 2014) or one-way functions, for building a variety of cryptographic systems. Our contributions in this work are as follows: 1. A Framework for Proof-of-Stake based Blockchains: We provide an abstract framework for formally analyzing and defining useful security properties for Proof-of-Stake (POS) based blockchain protocols. Interestingly, for some of our applications, POS based protocols are more suitable. We believe our framework and assumptions would be useful in building applications on top of POS based blockchain protocols even in the future. 2. Blockchains as an Alternative to Trusted Setup Assumptions in Cryptography: A trusted setup, such as a common reference string (CRS) has been used to realize numerous systems in cryptography. The paragon example of a primitive requiring trusted setup is a non-interactive zero-knowledge (NIZK) system. We show that already existing blockchains systems including Bitcoin, Ethereum etc. can be used as a foundation (instead of a CRS) to realize NIZK systems. The novel aspect of our work is that it allows for utilizing an already existing (and widely trusted) setup rather than proposing a new one. Our construction does not require any additional functionality from the miners over the already existing ones, nor do we need to modify the underlying blockchain protocol. If an adversary can violate the security of our NIZK, it could potentially also take over billions of dollars worth of coins in the Bitcoin, Ethereum or any such cryptocurrency! We believe that such a "trusted setup" represents significant progress over using CRS published by a central trusted party. Indeed, NIZKs could further serve as a foundation for a variety of other cryptographic applications such as round efficient secure computation (Katz and Ostrovsky, CRYPTO 2004 and Horvitz and Katz, CRYPTO 2007). 3. One-time programs and pay-per use programs: Goldwasser et al. (CRYPTO 2008) introduced the notion of one time program and presented a construction using tamper-proof hardware. As noted by Goldwasser et al., clearly a one-time program cannot be solely software based, as software can always be copied and run again. While there have been a number of follow up works (Goyal et al., TCC 2010, Bellare et al., ASIACRYPT 2012, and Applebaum et al., SIAM Journal on Computing 2015), there are indeed no known constructions of one-time programs which do not rely on self destructing tamper-proof hardware (even if one uses trusted setup or random oracles). Somewhat surprisingly, we show that it is possible to base one-time programs on POS based blockchain systems without relying on trusted hardware. Our ideas do not seem to translate over to Proof-of-Work (POW) based blockchains. We also introduce the notion of pay-per-use programs which is simply a contract between two parties --- service provider and customer. A service provider supplies a program such that if the customer transfers a specific amount of coins to the provider, it can evaluate the program on any input of its choice once, even if the provider is offline. This is naturally useful in a subscription based model where your payment is based on your usage.

Through Corda, institutions can transact directly using smart contracts while ensuring the highest levels of privacy and security. Commercial Bank’s membership of R3 is further evidence of its commitment to apply the latest technologies to improve services for customers and to drive operational efficiencies. It also demonstrates the Bank’s readiness to collaborate with other organisations in the financial services industry to find new ways that blockchain technology can be used.

Robin Marshall, Chief Information Technology Officer at Commercial Bank, said: “We already know that blockchain technology has the potential to make transactions between banks frictionless and secure, but there are potentially other, huge benefits of this technology that we are not even aware of. “To find out the full potential of blockchain and to use it in day-to-day operations, financial services institutions must work together collaboratively and that is why we have joined R3. Our aim through this partnership is to find new ways to use blockchain technology that will improve the services we offer to our customers at Commercial Bank. Today, people want banking to be fast, convenient, and seamless and that is what we strive to offer.”

David E. Rutter, CEO of R3, said: “R3 has built a global ecosystem of firms, financial institutions and regulators to unlock the potential in blockchain technology for enterprise. We’ve come a long way in a short space of time, but we are still only scratching the surface of what blockchain can deliver for firms. Welcoming Commercial Bank as a partner is a great opportunity to fresh perspectives. We look forward to sharing expertise and input with Commercial Bank in future projects as we continue to explore the potential of the Corda platform.”

R3 recently launched Corda Enterprise, a commercial distribution of Corda specifically optimised to meet the demands of complex institutions. Corda and Corda Enterprise are the foundation of a vibrant ecosystem of interoperable applications. These apps are built by R3’s partners, harnessing the power of blockchain to overcome the specific challenges faced by their customers.

3 Ways Blockchain Is a Supply Chain’s Best Friend      Cache   Translate Page
By Anant Kadiyala It’s nothing short of magic, really, the way global trading partners do business today. The problems are obvious and acute: massive complexity exacerbated by an enormous amount of manual, still mostly paper-oriented processes. Which is why blockchain—the networked distributed ledger technology—is gaining relevance in today’s global supply chains. Sanctioned blockchains provide their participants with a jointly managed, tamper-resistant mechanism for recording validated information. Its near-real-time nature helps minimize supply chain risks and accelerate operations

Lifelong Learning Credentials Require Both Technology and a Trust Framework      Cache   Translate Page
Lifelong Learning Credentials Require Both Technology and a Trust Framework eli.zimmerman_9856 Wed, 03/13/2019 - 11:37

There has been much discussion recently about the value of credentials in helping students demonstrate the skills required for career success and the need to transform how students collect and share these credentials

These valuable discussions point to exciting changes in the role of higher education, in which students may have access to a portfolio of skills demonstrations throughout their lifelong learning journey.

Unfortunately, from a technological perspective, conversations about how to realize this vision often devolve into something much less exciting: requirements around establishing identity, formatting data, and designing interfaces to ensure consistency and interoperability across all transactions, often through the use of standards and standardization.

Similarly, as with many conversations around how technology will support innovation in education, this topic sometimes centers on a particular solution, such as blockchain

The downside of this devolution is that it obfuscates a critical question: How might technology support a new vision of lifelong learning and skills attainment

We need to answer this question in a way that helps us understand the critical components of the relationship between this vision and technology, to see the areas in which technology can genuinely provide value and where it might fall short.

MORE FROM EDTECH: Read four things experts want higher education professionals to know about blockchain.

Driver’s License Model Reflects the Role of Trust and Authenticity

We already have a model we can use to understand how this might work: driver’s licenses. The majority of us have used our licenses to validate our identity, provide proof of our abilities or gain access to specific places and activities.

While these activities may seem simple, they depend on a complex relationship of trust between the issuer and reviewer. It’s a relationship in which the driver’s license represents an official certification of who you are and what you can do.

At its core, the trust question in higher education requires three components to ensure that individuals, organizations and devices have valid access, exchange, use and transfer of information:

  1. Security: Proper security makes it possible for all parties to accept that there have been no unauthorized changes to the information.
  2. Validity: Validity means all parties can accept that the information and identities are authentic.
  3. Portability: Portability allows all parties to access and show information in different environments. Therefore, it appears that to understand fully how technology can support the new vision of student skills attainment, we should first establish how it provides these three components.

Cybersecurity_IR_howstrong_700x220.jpg

Technology Supports the Trust Framework for Credentials

It should be clear that technology could support the security aspect of the trust framework. Identity and access management solutions, for example, have long handled the provisioning and verification of identity, as well as the linking between credentials and identities.

Likewise, technology can support the ability to recognize that a credential is valid — that is, issued by a recognized authority — similar to the process of identity verification. Last, with the use of portals, students can access their credentials anytime, from anywhere, which would undoubtedly support the portability component of a trust framework.

Equally clear, however, is that these technological activities are necessary but not sufficient. For a trust framework to be successful, there must be much more than simply a technological underpinning

For example, there must be agreement about the significance of the shared information and understanding that certain information applies to given contexts. As with the driver’s license example, there are agreements about what licenses can certify (identity and driving ability) and where they are applicable (between states, but not between countries, for example).

Technologies such as blockchain and credentialing platforms may be necessary for the vision of where higher education may go. Yet other pieces of the puzzle are equally important.

I hope that viewing a trust framework through the lens of its key components — and not in terms of technology — will help us identify and focus our attention on what is necessary to help students attain, store and share demonstrations of their skills over their lifetimes.

The Global Economic Reset Begins With An Engineered Crash      Cache   Translate Page

Authored by Brandon Smith via Alt-Market.com,

For a few years now, since at least 2014, the phrase “global economic reset” has been circulating in the financial world. This phrase is used primarily by globalist institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to describe an event in which the current system as we know it will either die out or evolve into a new system where “multilateralism” will become the norm. The reset is often described in an ambiguous way. IMF banking elites will usually mention the end results of the shift, but they say little about the process to get there.

What we do know is that the intent of the globalists is to use this reset to create a more centralized monetary system and micro-managed global economy. At the core of this new structure would be the IMF along with perhaps the BIS and World Bank.  It is a plan that has been supported openly by both western and eastern governments, including Russia and China.

As noted, the details are few and far between, but the IMF describes the use of open borders and human migrations during the reset as a means to transfer capital from various parts of the world. It is a novel if not utterly insane way to transfer wealth that only makes sense if you understand that the globalist goal is to deliberately conjure a geopolitical catastrophe.

The IMF also asserts that blockchain technology will make capital transfer easier and more efficient in this future environment, which explains the enthusiastic globalist support for developments in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies despite the notion in cryptocurrency circles that blockchain would somehow make the bankers “obsolete”.

The IMF also acknowledges that in the meantime a slowdown in capital flows has occurred, and that this slowdown is ongoing since the crash of 2008. What they do not explicitly admit is that the crash of 2008 never ended, and that the decline we are witnessing today is merely an extension of the recession/depression that started ten years ago.

Certain facts have become obvious to anyone with any sense over the past year. First, as the Federal Reserve began tightening stimulus policies by raising interest rates and cutting assets from their balance sheet, the global economy began to return to steep declines not seen since the credit crisis. I predicted this outcome in my article 'Party While You Can – Central Bank Ready To Pop The Everything Bubble', published in January of 2018. The plunge has started in almost every sector of the economy, from housing, to autos to credit markets to retail. Now, even jobs, numbers which are highly manipulated to the upside, are beginning to falter.

The assertion in the mainstream media is that this recessionary downturn is new. This is not the case. What began in 2008 was an epic implosion of multiple national economies, and what we are seeing in 2019 is the final culmination of that process - The end game.

It is not a coincidence that the downturn started right after the Fed began tightening stimulus measures in 2017. With only a minor increase in interest rates and moderate cuts to their balance sheet, all the conditions the economy suffered in 2008 are suddenly returning. What this tells us is that the US economy and parts of the global economy cannot survive without constant and ever expanding central bank stimulus.

The moment the stimulus goes away, the crash returns.

Does this mean that central banks will try to keep QE going forever? No, it does not. So far, the Fed has not capitulated at all from the path of tightening. In fact, the Fed nearly doubled its normal balance sheet cuts from January 30th to the end of February, dumping over $65 billion in a 30 day period. The Fed also has not changed its dot plot projections for two more interest rate hikes this year. This means all the talk the past two months of the Fed going “dovish” was nonsense. Setting aside their rhetoric and looking at their actions, the Fed has been as hawkish as ever.

The only people who might find this to be news are most stock market daytraders, who ignore all other failing indicators and seem content to base their economic projections on equities alone. Set aside the fact that stocks plunged in December into near bear market territory. The bounce in January and February has convinced them that the Fed is stepping in and will not allow the economy to tank.  But the "plunge protection team" is about to pull the rug out from under their feet after training them like Pavlovian dogs to salivate at the sound of the word "accommodation".

Their mindset is based on a host of incorrect assumptions.

To be clear, while the Fed paid lip service to “accommodation” in their public statements, it was not the central bank that stepped in monetarily to stall falling stocks. That was actually the Chinese central bank, pumping billions in stimulus into global markets at just the right moment.

Chinese stimulus coupled with pension fund buying at the start of this year saved stocks from losses beyond 20%, but markets have met resistance on the way up. Without renewed stimulus measures from the Fed, equities have topped out multiple times and refuse to move towards their previous highs. This suggests that the two month bounce is over, and that stocks will now fall back down to December lows and beyond. If the projections I made in January are correct, then the Dow will fall into the 17,000 - 18,000 point range from the end of March through April.

The facade is slowly but surely melting away, not just in economics, but everywhere. I predicted both the success of the Brexit vote as well as Trump's win in 2016 based on the theory that the globalists would allow or even help populists to gain a political foothold, only to crash the economic system on their heads and then blame them for the disaster. So far my theory is proving correct.

Trump's trade war continues unabated despite claims by many that it would be over quickly. Currently, there are no plans for a March summit between Trump and Xi, and the possibility of a summit anytime soon has come into question as Trump's negotiations with North Korea fell to shambles last month. The negotiations are a farce and are not meant to succeed. I continue to hold to my position that the trade war is a planned distraction and that Trump is playing a role in a globalist scripted drama.

The facade of Donald Trump as a “populist candidate” is quickly ending. His cabinet is loaded with think-tank ghouls and banking elites, so this should come as little surprise. But there are still some analysts out there that naively believe that Trump is playing “4D chess” and that he is not the pied piper he now appears to be. What I see is a president that claimed during his campaign that he would “drain the swamp” of elites, then stacked his cabinet with some of the worst elites in Washington D.C. What I see is a president who argued against Fed stimulus measures and the fake stock market during his campaign, and who now has attached himself to the stock market so completely that any crash will now be blamed on him no matter the facts. What I see is a willing scapegoat; a president that is going to fail on purpose.

In terms of the Brexit, I still predict that there will be a “no deal” event, and that this is by design. The Brexit deal with the EU is slated to be decided in the next few weeks. A “no deal” outcome would be a perfect excuse for a major financial crisis in Europe, which is why I think it will happen. While sovereignty movements in the US will get the blame for the crash through Trump, sovereignty movements in the UK will get the blame for a crash in Europe through Brexit.

It is important to remind the public that this narrative is entirely false.

The economy has been in a state of animated death since 2008. Central bank stimulus acted as a kind of fiscal formaldehyde, keeping the visible signs of the crash at bay for 10 years but also creating a bubble even larger and more destructive than the one before. The “Everything Bubble” has now been primed to explode with maximum damage in mind.

The Fed started the tightening process for a reason; the establishment is ready to start the “global economic reset”, and they have their populist scapegoats in place. The crash in fundamentals returned in mid-2018, and I believe that crash will finally be acknowledged publicly by the media in mid-2019.

The point of it all is described in the very IMF interviews and documents I linked to above – Total centralization of the global economic framework, managed by the IMF. They describe it as “multilateralism” or a “multipolar world order”; this is meant to fool us into believing that the reset is about “decentralization”. It isn't. They intend to move us from one unipolar economic structure to another unipolar economic structure that is even more centralized. That is all.

The crash itself is simply a means to an end. It is a tool to gain fiscal and psychological leverage against the public. The everything bubble was created for a reason. The Fed has tightened into economic weakness over the past year for a reason. The timing of Trump's trade war and summit failures have happened for a reason. The timing of the Brexit chaos is happening now for a reason. The globalists are pulling the plug on economic life support today; the crash is engineered, and sovereignty movements are supposed to take the blame.

The best option at this time is to continuously force the issue of central bank culpability.  Liberty activists have to keep the focus on them and their criminal participation in economic sabotage, and we cannot assume that any government or political leader will be friendly to our cause.  The globalists have started the crisis, and we must finish it by making sure they are held accountable.
