U.S. Army captain, brothers, a law student, international aid workers among the 157 killed in an Ethiopian Airlines crash      Cache   Translate Page

Katelyn Parra Photography(NEW YORK) --  Making the world a "better place" was how heartbroken family members remembers loved once who were among the 157 people aboard the Ethiopian Airlines flight that crashed just minutes after takeoff on Sunday morning.

No one survived the horrific crash that claimed the lives of a decorated U.S. Army captain, brothers on vacation, a law school student and dozens of international aid workers.

Thirty-five countries from all over the world lost citizens in the deadly incident — 32 Kenyans were the majority of lives lost.

At least eight U.S. citizens were among the victims. The U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia and the U.S. Department of State haven't released their identities, but ABC News has confirmed the names of four.

Antoine Lewis, 39, of Matteson, Illinois, was a U.S. Army captain stationed in Ottawa, Canada, who served in Afghanistan. He was on vacation in Ethiopia doing Christian missionary work, according to his parents. They said Lewis equally valued the country he fought for and the home of his ancestors.

"That’s what he died doing," his mother, Antoinette Lewis, told ABC Chicago station WLS-TV in a recent interview. "His passion was just to make a better world, make a better place, both here and our mother country."

Lewis leaves behind a wife and a 15-year-old son.

"I’m still in disbelief," his wife said in a statement obtained by ABC News. "I feel it's a dream [I'm still] awaiting his call to tell me he has safely touched down."

"Antoine was so loving," she added. "He was always interested in learning new things, forever on a journey becoming a better version of himself each day. He was so smart and just wanted to share his wealth of knowledge with those who’d listen."

Ike and Susan Riffel of Redding, California, lost their only children in the crash, Bennett and Melvin Riffel. The brothers were on vacation traveling to a few different countries as part of an adventure ahead of the birth of Melvin's first child, according to the family.

Melvin and his wife, Britney, were expecting a baby girl in May.

"We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from the community," a spokesperson for the Riffel family told ABC Redding affiliate KRCR in a statement. "We ask for continued prayers."

IQAir, a Switzerland-based company that specializes in improving indoor air quality, confirmed that one of its employees, Matt Vecere, was aboard the doomed flight. Vecere grew up in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, and later moved to California.

"Matt was an amazing writer, an avid surfer, and a truly selfless person," IQAir said in a statement. "He was most at home helping others, as evidenced by his dedication to the people of Haiti following the devastating earthquake in 2010."

"We will miss his laugh, his wit, his sense of humor, but most of all, the kinship and friendship that he brought to everything he did," the company added.

Ethiopian Airlines identified the pilot of the ill-fated plane as Yared Mulugeta Gatechew, who had more than 8,000 flight hours. The co-pilot was Ahmed Nur Mohammod Nur, who had over 200 flight hours.

The United Nations said at least 21 of its employees were among those killed in Sunday's crash.

The staffers hailed from around the globe and worked for various U.N. agencies, which regularly made trips to Kenya by way of Ethiopia to visit Africa's United Nations Office headquarters, located in Nairobi. Many were traveling to attend a five-day assembly of the United Nations Environment Programme.

The World Food Programme (WFP), the food-assistance branch of the United Nations, released the names of seven team members who died: Ekta Adhikari, 26, of Nepa; Maria Pilar Buzzetti, 30, of Italy; Virginia Chimenti, 26, of Italy; Harina Hafitz, 59, of Indonesia; Zhen-Zhen Huang, 46, of China; Michael Ryan, 39, of Ireland; and Djordje Vdovic, 53, of Serbia.

"As we mourn, let us reflect that each of these WFP colleagues were willing to travel and work far from their homes and loved ones to help make the world a better place to live," the WFP's Executive Director David Beasley said in a statement. "That was their calling, as it is for the rest of the WFP family."

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees named three colleagues who also died: Nadia Ali, 40, of Sudan; Jessica Hyba, 43, of Canada; and Jackson Musoni, 31, of Rwanda.

"We’ve been struck by sudden and terrible loss," U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, said in a statement. "We are doing everything we can to help Nadia’s, Jessica’s and Jackson’s families at this most difficult and painful time."

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) said it lost a program officer in the gender and safeguards unit, Victor Shangai Tsang, of Hong Kong, China.

"Victor took up this position with vigor and enthusiasm, striving to make our projects fully gender-sensitive," UNEP said in a statement. "His work defined him as an individual, and he, in turn, helped define our own work."

Victor leaves behind his pregnant wife and son.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations confirmed it lost fisheries officer Joanna Toole, who was "passionate about making the world a better place."

Another victim in Sunday's plane crash was Max Thabiso Edkins, a 35-year-old dual-national of Germany and South Africa. He worked as a communications officer for the World Bank's Connect4Climate program.

"We were devastated to learn that we lost a cherished colleague in the plane crash in Ethiopia," the World Bank Group's interim president, Kristalina Georgieva, said in a statement. "Max was deeply committed to the fight against climate change and brought tremendous creativity, energy and passion to his work. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and loved ones, and to those of the other victims of this tragedy."

Cedric Asiavugwa, a third-year law student at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C, was traveling to his native Kenya to attend the funeral of his fiance's mother, according to a press release from the school.

Born and raised in Mombasa, Kenya, Asiavugwa's work on social justice issues led him from his native country to Uganda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, before coming to Georgetown University Law Center. The 32-year-old planned to return home to Kenya after graduating to continue serving refugees and other marginalized groups.

"With his passing, the Georgetown family has lost a stellar student, a great friend to many, and a dedicated champion for social justice across East Africa and the world," the law school said in a statement.

Judy Note - in my opinion nothing has changed since yesterday:

1. Reno received notice of the payment codes on Sun. March 10.

2. The payment codes were released to payers on Mon. March 11.

3. That same Mon. March 11 XI Ping was at Maralago signing papers with President Trump.

4. President Trump then released the codes for the “doors to open” on Tues. March 12.

5. Geopolitical issues have been handled behind the scenes and were not released to news outlets.

6. Some have said that we would receive information to set our appointments by Fri. March 15.

A. Apparent Global Currency Reset/GESARA Schedule:

Fri. March 1: The new USTNs were made live Fri. March 1 at 3pm EST.

Sat. midnight March 2: The debt ceiling was hit, the AIIB ended their fiat credit to the Federal Reserve and US Taxpayer monies were sent to the new US Treasury in Reno.

Mon. March 4: Zimbabwe demonetized their Zim Bond Notes, released them on Tues. March 5, at 1 pm EST - the same time that the green light was issued for payments to buyers and payers at the new US Treasury in Reno (Zim Bonds were backing the entire Global Currency Reset and they had just been demonetized for the RV).

Wed. March 6 at 8:15 pm EST some fines, penalties and a group known as the Big Boys were paid out. It was rumored that by Thurs. March 7 the Cherokee Nation had been paid and that by Sat. March 9 five Indian Nations had been paid out. Farm Claims and F&Ps were to be paid out the evening of Sat. March 9.

Friday March 8 intel behind the now over 82,324 sealed indictments began to be revealed when Hannity on Fox News broke the story on the Deep State FISA Conspiracy to Commit Fraud on a Court by the DNC, Clinton Campaign and FBI. Although other mainstream news outlets have yet to pick up the story, according to Pentagon sources, "The Ides of March should bring 85,000 sealed indictments and many arrests in the U.S.”

This Week: The European exit (Brexit) from the Euro would take away the Cabal’s last bastion of rule over the global financial system by closing the Queen’s Bank of London, though Brexit wouldn’t be made official until March 29.

Mon. March 11: Rumor was that on March 11 XI Ping was at Maralago with President Trump and that the codes had been released.

March 13: Zimbabwe to make gold announcement.

Fri. March 15: We should be able to obtain our appointments by Fri. March 15.

Fri. March 15: Back on Oct. 1 2018 the NY Stock Market lost all gains for the year and for the last six months has been on the brink of collapse, with no revival in sight. The Stock Market plummet would be a distraction to hide the RV, along with the Mueller report due out by the Ides of March 15.

March 19: Q tweeted that big things were happening on March 19.

March 20: Military Tribunals began in various secret locations on Jan. 2 and the 9/11 Tribunal began at GITMO on Jan. 28. The FISA Warrant Tribunal was set to begin on March 20. FISA Warrant declassification was expected to expose that the FBI, Justice Department, Obama, Clinton campaign and Democrats were in cahoots to take down duly elected US President Trump – an act of Treason.

March 20: According to a March 6 2019 Institute of Physics of the Earth Report sent to Prime Minister Putin, around March 20 the western coasts of the US, Mexico, Central and South America was set to experience a catastrophic 9 mega-earthquake that would unleash a deadly tsunami with 30 metric-high waves. Scientists were warning leaders to prepare the general population.

March 29: Some say that the Bank of International Settlements planned to announce the gold/asset- backed currency standard on March 29. Others say the new global asset-backed currency system would be announced on Aug. 1 and put in force Jan. 1 2020.

April 1: The transition into the new Quantum Financial System.

August 1: All countries were expected to be GESARA compliant by Aug. 1 2019.

Oct. 2019: The Federal Reserve and IRS would close their books in Oct. 2019. US Taxpayer monies were being sent from the Federal Reserve/IRS to the new US Treasury in Reno as of Sat. midnight March 2.

B. March 12 2019 The Big Call, Bruce: Thebigcall.net: 712-770-4016 pin123456#

1. Iraqi Dinar was supposed to be pre-traded by Sun. March 10 at a $6.73 start.

2. Dong started pre-trading Mon. morning March 11. Supposed to be within 5% of the Dinar.

3. Iranian Rial should come in close to the Dinar.

4. Dinar would be available at the new rate Thurs. morning March 14.

5. Native American claims have been settled. Farm claims have been notified. CMX settle out tonight. The core groups may go overnight tonight March 12.

6. The 800#s may go right after the core groups go.

7. Prosperity Packages have been paid out to those trustees so they can pay them to the recipients.

8. Paymasters were liquid, have release codes.

9. We should be there by the end of the week.

C. March 12 2019 8:48 am EST Intel Alert: Operation Disclosure: GCR/RV Intel Alert for March 12, 2019 Operation Disclosure (Disclaimer: The following is an overview of the current situation based on intelligence leaks received from several sources which may or may not be accurate. Other confirmed sources may also be included in this overview.)

1. The entire world was waiting on Brexit to be passed as it would mark the end of the remaining Cabal structure.

2. Trump was expected to start making moves on removing the Fed after Brexit was passed.

3. The Fed was connected to the City of London and Brexit would relinquish the City of London from Cabal control.

4. This explained why the EU was doing everything in their power to prevent Brexit from being voted on. The EU continued to make profits from the City of London as they delayed Brexit. These profits were being used to fund the last Cabal/Deep State remnants.

5. If Brexit was not passed, the Alliance was prepared to temporarily crash European markets to force the EU to collapse.

6. Brexit was inevitable and it would happen either way, whether through a democratic process or a total collapse of the EU.

7. The fall of the City of London meant no more funding for the Cabal (in the EU) and the Deep State (in the US). This was the Cabal's last stand.

8. Sources expected everything to be settled (total GESARA compliance) by August.

9. The RV was expected to occur this month of March (after Brexit was voted on).

D. March 12 2019 Bluwolf:

1. We are about to receive a GO message in a short while (minutes, hours, days) for there is nothing out there obstructing or delaying this or anything.

2. The rates will be satisfying to all involved and things pertaining to the exchange will be as it was accorded with both banks elected or chosen for this important RV event.

3. All things expected of Iraq has been 100 % covered, written off in there Gazette and accepted by all governments involved.

4. The voice in charge of awarding the banks the GO permission to open up there envelopes which contains the 800 # they are all in agreement that we are finally heading to the desire end.

5. The PLAN has had a lot of obstacles by the money rich and the corrupted government individuals but according to those in charge that has been dealt with.

6. The system for this exchange has been tested and APPROVED 100% secure and safe with no flaws whatsoever.

MarkZ Update Tuesday 3-12-19: Notes by PDK-Highlights only-Not Verbatum

MarkZ Disclaimer: Please consider everything on this call as my opinion. People who take notes do not catch everything and its best to watch the video so that you get everything in context. Be sure to consult a professional for any financial decisions

MZ: I did not see the movement we wanted to see from Sunday into Monday….Still very excited this week. We will be watching every single day. The Progress is slow and steady and we want it to be fast, quick and efficient.. there is a whole bunch to watch for this week…

Mr. C has not been paid. No confirmation on the Indian Accounts…we have someone speak directly with a Chief. F&Ps not delivered until Indians are paid .

My contacts in Chicago are still excited that we are seeing progress….they are energized and rejuvenated this week and feeling very positive….I am still looking at “any day”

CMKX: we are sitting on “Go” and ready….I got some cool confirmations on where we are now sitting….I have been asked to not talk about this so I won’t.

Q: I know its early but i do have an important question MarkZ.I heard we should not get an interest bearing account, but if we dont get that, then how would we get interest?

MZ: I understand there will be accounts available for us……Wed. night we will have our Trust expert on to answer all your questions. Bob used to be a “Barr” attorney and he is now a “common Law Attorney”..

Member: the whole thing with the non-interest bearing account was that USG would insure an unlimited balance. It was a scam to suck deposits into the banks, because the banks had zero liquidity.

Member: The benefit of a non interest-bearing account is that the money has not been invested yet and is easier to move to a different bank etc….. when you have an interest-bearing account with a large sum of money that we will be placing in these accounts, to get interest it has to be invested therefore the theory goes that it would take a little while for them to liquidate and move it because your friends have been invested in something in order for you to receive interest. If you're planning on keeping

Q: Mark please explain, i thought this was a general revolution stream, are you all waiting to be paid by the Gov or sumfin?

MZ: We are looking for a Global reset and a New Republic/government .

Q: It Sounds like you are now feeling even BETTER....about the CMKX! So....does that mean you are feeling even BETTER about the RV being even CLOSER, as well??

MZ: I feel very positive…very positive…I am still looking for it this week.

Q: how many people are scheduled to receive 800# for distribution

MZ: I will make sure we give the 800 numbers on this call.

Q: What percent would you give MARCH being our month? Cannot Thank YOU enough!

MZ: Im about a 98% on March…I feel really good about.

Member: They are trying to beat the March 29th date because currencies are going to change on that date for sure

Member: BIS will be gold back on March 29

MZ: Bam……that one reason I am so positive in March.

Member: We are leaving the EU on the 29th March

Q: MarkZ Have you heard anything about April 15 being a new back wall?

MZ: I still hear the 29th is our back-wall date.

Q: Is there ANY possibility that BIS going gold-backed March 29 could be postponed?

MZ: I have no idea…….They may be waiting on the outcome just so they have the rates structured

Q: Are we back to waiting for the parliament positions to be filled?

MZ: Heck no………Absolutely not..I hear we are waiting on security on our end.

Q: so you are going back to the constitutuion?

MZ : I am told we are absolutely going back to the constitution and common law.

Member: Judge Anna Von Reitz is a pro for years- on Common Law - She has YouTube videos

Q: Is WF the main bank?

MZ: Yes it is

Q: what happens when the Fed and IRS closes…

MZ: I expect the fed to be folded into the Treasury….We still need a central bank to manage liquidity. .We still need rank and file employees but they will be under new management….us.

Q; When the China and Trump agreed to the trade deal the RV will happen

MZ: It may be true….I hear it’s a security issue right now between China and the US…

Q: BROTHER.......ANY MORE (CONFORMATION), THAT ZIM WILL GO AT THE SAME TIME OF THE RV??

MZ: Yes…I am feeling very confident that its going the same time as the other ones.

Member: Isnt Zimbabwe a economic and political mess?

MZ: Yes If they move forward with a stable currency the government mess will fix itself…… I hear sanctions on their currency go away after the reset.

Member: According to Fulford, the reason for Zimbabwe sanctions is to prevent the cabal from profiting from the reset.

MZ: Im not a big Fulford follower….but that makes sense to me.

Member: I have been told that due to the large amounts of Zim redemptions only HSBC will do them

Member: Mark Is it your opinion that gurus calling it for weeks/months/years was to deliberately throw off the cabal? we just got caught in the middle...

MZ: Yes…Many of us have been used for misinformation over the years.

Q: do you think we'll be waiting for the weekend?

Q: because of the financial magnitude, you think we have to wait for the weekend for timing?

MZ: It makes sense to me as we will be seeing a complete Global Reset. But Historically RVs have happened on a Tuesday or a Thursday .. We were told by Mayheu way back when that we would go to bed on a sat. night and rates would change and we wake up Monday to all new rates.

Member: Those that have profited thru Ill gotten means..will live to see the day when it is ALL taken away"~Bob Maheu

Member: Good Memory on the Mayheu thing.

Q: Did Hodges confirm with you the Dinar has to RV before CMKX is paid? He said it so long ago...

MZ: I did not ask AL that question……he always said the RV had to happen for everyone to get paid.

Member: Banks need our dough

MZ: they absolutely need us to exchange and our liquidity.

Q: Any fear from Bail-ins from Banks.

MZ: I was told specifically we will NOT have to worry about bank- bail-ins

Q: Gm, Mark. Does Cottrell have any leverage to get paid, or could this continue on forever ?

MZ: No not really except for a massive campaign in public to force exposure….sooner or later the fiat system will crash…..it is inevitable…. they can do it the hard way or the easy way.

If this doesn’t happen for us this month we are planning a yellow vest gathering in DC….they are terrified of this.

Member: We will reach out to Q people and Trump groups to join our yellow vest March

MZ: I am having mixed feelings about the Q thing…..they have mixed misinfo with real info into it….anytime the bad guys can meddle with something….its easiest to mix misinfo in with real intel.

Member: can see JFK JR alive. Lots of proof there to. I questioned at first. But anons showed could be. !!!

MZ: that would be wonderful……have no idea if any of that is true but with his family’s history fighting the central banks, I think it would be wonderful if it proves to be true. That would be the best story ever and turn the PTB on their ears……..

Member: REALITY..IS...found..in conspiracy theories..look closely

Q: Originally Mr. Hodges was going to announce to the shareholders and let us know we have Economic Reciept, do you know if he will still tell us... or will we just get a surprise knock on our door? Thanks

MZ: It is not his job to announce to the shareholders…he did his part….now its up to the paymasters and just like us- he is waiting for a knock on his door.

Q: Mark, with all respect....how many people do you think showing up in Yellow vests to Washington would make an impact? Without a GCR most of us could not even afford to go out there.....thoughts?

MZ: I would think 10,000 in yellow vests it would make a huge impact…….starting with 500 to 1,000 it would quickly grow IMO.

Member: Domino for sure! WWG1WGA

MZ: It would domino for sure. People who want to Audit the Fed, Q followers, Dinarians….but there is no room for hate ……just justice.

Member- no to audit the fed…yes to end the fed.

MZ: I think we need to audit it to prove to the people how corrupt it is so it can be ended with a huge finality. This is a war between globalists and sovereigns….some say it’s a war between good and evil.

Q: ? Is Nigeria aferican Courency in first basket. Thank you.

MZ: I have heard most African currencies are in the second basket.

Q: With Iraq Parliament saying the Prime Minister can choose the remaining cabinet members within 3 weeks, does this mean the RV can’t go until then?

MZ: they can absolutely move forward with the RV before they finish their government

MZ: Again this call is all in my opinion and I hope you consult with professionals when it comes to financial decisions…..manage your expectations. It is not an “if” but a “when” for this to happen.

This is such a complex thing they are doing but I believe we are in the “end days” of seeing this reset happen.

Q: if Mr. C gets paid... & cant talk...what will you say that day..?

MZ: If this happens and I cannot let all of you know….I would probably tweet out that “I’m under a NDA and cant say anything” …..or post that I’m having a big glass of scotch…lol

Lovely Victoria Falls...      Cache   Translate Page
I have had an opportunity to work in Kasana in Botswana with a regional office in Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) and I travelled between the 2 towns regulalrly.

I found Victoria Falls to more outgoing and the guys were more switched-on in-terms of Gay sex. They understood the language of gay and never made a big fuss about being asked out for sex. Kasane on the other hand was a very different and reserved town with everybody pretenting they had no clue what happens when 2 men get into bed.

It did however take a few dollars to get a guy to bed and few did manage to run-off before they gave me their ass. I ended up with a guy who was not gay but always knew who I should talk to and I paid him a small fee if the sex went well and a bit more it the sex was GOOD!!! Very few of these guys were really gay so they really just wanted the money and I really just wanted the sex. A few did show some affection and joy in the act and it's those where I always came back to.

Africa, Waterval Boven, Monkey's and Pumba!      Cache   Translate Page

The journey to Africa began with a series of highly unnecessary and time consuming flights. You see the original plan involved us stopping in Egypt and Kenya but these had to be cut because of all the chaos there. So we still flew through Cairo, where a series of dodgy passport recordings and constant shuffling from one arbitrary room to another left us highly deranged and confused. Eventually we escaped though and even managed to see one of the pyramids from the plane. Yep Egypt and the pyramids ticked and we didn´t even have to leave the airport.

After another few flights and a long bus ride we were greeted by the legendary Gustav. Gustav took us to our glorious home for the next few weeks, a climbing lodge in a small village called Waterval Boven!

WATERVL BOVEN = ROCK CLIMBING HEAVEN

Nomad had decided that we should visit Boven after seeing a random photo of a climber next to a waterfall. Turns out it was a good choice and this place was a climbing paradise with hundreds of awesome routes and a really great setup with the climbers lodge 'Roc n Rope'. This lodge had it all. It was fully equiped house and we had it all to our selves. We highly recommend you come stay with Roc n Rope if you want an African adventure.

Gustav and his Wife Alex run Roc n Rope Adventures, its a climbing school, gear shop and lodge. They are super friendly and helpful and have all the beta you need for an awesome time climbing in Boven. It is easy to get there from Joberg also using the citybug bus service. Check out the Roc n Rope website for more info:

Gustav and Alex love climbing and we actually met up with them in Thailand at the end of the year. Their son also gave Beric a run for his money playing chess and slack lining!

Steve and Beric quickly discovered the local butcher and it was soon clear that this was the best shop in the world! T bones for $3, lamb chops, a far superior version of beef jerky called Biltong and dried sausages called Dry Wors became our regular diet. Real caveman like just the way it should be. We haven't seen nomad eat meat since we can remember so he missed out, he has been living on some sort of strange carrot diet.

We were lucky enough to have the butcher cook us a traditional meal one day called Vetkoek and mince. Basically a bread roll with mince on it. Vegetables and salad where slim pickings you see:

There was a mysterious fish and chip shop window we went to a lot and a post office that reminded us of Garbutt.

Across the road from the lodge was the old peoples home, they were either trying to keep people out, or trap the old people in. We weren't sure :S

On our first day out climbing we were guided by Jan AKA the Edelrid Man. Jan works at Roc n Rope and has been on all sorts of adventures around the world. He even spent six months on the most remote island in the world working with rare birds.

BABOONS!

The Edelrid Man makes the best beer in Boven and plans to start his own brewery soon.

The old keep the beer temp constant with the sleeping bag trick:

Zimbabwe are screwed man! it costs some $200 000 to buy a square of toilet paper. Inflation there was up in the millions so they scraped their currency and use US dollars now:

The Edelrid Man took us to a crag where we quickly learnt about the unique aspects of African climbing. You see climbers share the cliffs with troops of baboons, you have to be careful not to grab a big pile of stinking baboon crap when you reach for that nice jug...

While on a tricky lead Beric had an encounter with an angry Red Tail. This thing would come out of nowhere and swoop with great speed straight for his head narrowly missing each time. A few rocks in his pocket provided some defence but the bird won that round and we retreated to a different climb. This is beric on some heinously hard blank climb:

Beric abseiled down to a baboon poo ledge and took some Stella shots of Steve on his project (Monster grad 29). Now that's a bomber anchor set up if I ever saw one:

Beric decided to wander into an African hair salon. He came out looking like this:

It was quite an experience actually. I (Beric) was exposed to manya crazy event whilst in this salon for some 5 hours. Firstly, the salon was next to a liquor store and had many drunk men venturing in to mess around with the ladies. Next was all the African women with their afro's gossiping. I can't reveal what they told me, but they speak alot about sex. In fact, the lady doing my dreads openly told me she was going out the back for a minute to masturbate. I waited patiently with my head coverd in 'twist n loc' while she proceeded with her mission.

It's also a good time to mention that approximately 80% of the African women in the province have AIDS. The highest in South Africa. In fact Edelrid man told me that half the men believe that AIDS is a myth, some sort of conspiracy made by the government. The Mozambique president has a new wife every year, heavily promotes promiscuity and allegedly raped a HIV positive spokeswoman working to create awareness on the issue. Yep, aids certainly is a huge problem in Africa and unfortunately it will be near impossible to solve.

Population growth is another major issue here. The insight I gained from the women in the salon, is that all the woman desperately want to get pregnant. they believe the more children they have the wealthier they may potentially be, as there is a baby bonus, and the children will work and look after them.

I also discovered that they do not actually even cut hair in this salon. They have a hair menu which included uber classics such as:

- Da Bradz
- Corn rows
- Them Platz

They were all lovely people that we met and we had the pleasure of watching a choir group preform gospel songs in Gustavs back yard. They were practising for a wedding. There is quality footage of me dancing and singing a song with them which will never be released..

In addition to bum hair you need to habits to back it up. My clothes are so dirty these days they stand up like cardboard..

The reason Waterval Boven is world famous is because of a classic photo taken of someone climbing a bright red cliff in front of a waterfall. Needless to say, we had to climb that thing and replicate that photo.

 Beric living his life:

Steve being a Steven:

While Steve and Nomad were climbing the waterfall route, I (Beric) had abseiled over the edge of a cliff to take some shots. As I came back up the rope and stepped over the edge of the cliff top I heard a loud aggressive BARK. I thought it was a rabid dog at first. I nearly fell backwards over the cliff! I looked up and realised I was surrounded by about 50 baboons. Some of them were really big and would have stood eye to eye with me. These things have big fangs and are very strong. A fight with them would be certain death. I took out my leatherman. Took a deep breath. AND RAN. As fast as I could. I found Steve and Nomad and told them the baboons where coming. Steve and I got the cameras and crept up a hill to take some distance shots of them. A word of advice to our monkey clan friends. If you encounter wild baboons or monkeys, don't stair them in the eyes, show them your teeth or stand on anything higher than them. They take this as a challenge you see.

Some brief history, South Africa was under a Parte in the early 90's. Black people were suppressed and forced to live in divided town ships between the white and black people. The parte was abolished in 1994, however many of the towns in South Africa are still divided. This is the case in Waterval Boven and the 'Black Town' as the local refer to it, was very shocking and confronting to see for the first time. It really fits the stereo type. Picture a hillside of corrugated iron shanties, chickens roaming through garbage and young children kicking raggy soccer balls. We walked through the 'black town' on a number of occasions. The first time was on an arbitrary mission to locate a mysterious bakery. This bakery was no French Patisserie, just White bread and scones.

Other times we walked through the black town was to get to the waterfall cliff. On these walks we kept of valuables well out of sight as the people are extremely poor and hence opportunistic. However, in general they were all very friendly and would wave and smile. Unfortunately if you turn your back though, BAM goodbye backpack. This leads us to Joberg, we didn´t visit as we don't like cities and we deemed it too unsafe anyway. Word is you have to drive through red lights at 200km an hour and travel in convoys. We also hear that Britain sends their Paramedics to Joberg to get desensitised to trauma injuries.

One of the scariest things we did this year was walk through the train tunnel near the waterfall cliff. It was the only way back to town from the climbing area we abseiled into. Our only other option would have been a steep dangerous scramble up a cliff.

The tunnel was a few hundred meters long and became extremely narrow in the middle, and pitch black of course! The trains come about once an hour. In the event a train comes you have to lay flat on the ground against the wall apparently and you will survive. We didn't want to test the theory and I highly doubted it would have worked in the middle section. But we took the gamble and made our way through as quickly as possible.

In the middle of the tunnel my senses went wild, my eyes were darting everywhere looking for any places to hide if a train came. My headlamp flickering on the black railway stones. Occasionally there where little corners which I kept in mind in the event I had to retreat to them. We were running and I could feel my heart pounding hard. The whole time I was anticipating a dreaded train whistle to blast through the tunnel.  But we made it through all ok  Jan told me he once got to the exit just as a train flew around the corner. Lucky man.

The Mozambique refugees and nomads like to use this train track to illegally migrate to South Afirca. They walk for hundreds of km's along these tracks.

Our Joberg friends Gareth, Desiree, Monica and Anna disagree though and kept trying to convince us to visit. After surviving Mexico and Venezuela we weren´t taking any risks though, we also thought it was too dangerous after we walked around the corner one evening to meet Desiree at Monica's car and this is all we saw:

We spent a few days climbing with these new friends and thoroughly enjoyed their company.

On one of our final nights at Waterval, we received a delightful surprise from our friend Gustuv. Three amazing and beautiful girls from Spain turned up to stay at our lodge for the night. That's right, it's our lodge. Over the three weeks we became possessive of our lodge..

The girl's were interesting and kicked our ass's in pool. Hola amigos! Te echamos de menos! espero verte pronto ;)

We are working on a movie but Steve's laptop with our software died in Thailand. So no movie yet. We will put it up later on when we are finished rock climbing our arms off :D

In between climbing in South Africa we went to Krugar national park to do a 3 day Safari. Krugar is Only 2 hours from waterval boven and features Mustafa, Rahfiki, Pumba and Malaria. This will be in the next blog so stay tuned!

‘Women Have Big Role to Play in Media’
09 MAR, 2019 - 00:03
Zimbabwe Herald

Yesterday Zimbabwe joined other countries in celebrating International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women’s social, political, and cultural achievements from the past to the present, while pushing for progress for future generations. Our Senior Reporter Felex Share spoke to Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa to find out the achievements of women in the media industry, participation of women in leadership positions, measures needed to ensure more women participate in leadership positions among other issues.

FS: Minister let me begin by your assessment of women participation in the media. How is it now as compared to the past years?

MM: I am a woman and the Minister of Information in charge of the media. So, from that point of view you have a woman participating at the highest level in the media sector. Right off the bat, I should say I am the poster child of women participation in the media today. As the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, I am responsible for steering the ship when it comes to the media, and presently I have the task of introducing media reforms in line with the New Dispensation’s thrust of opening Zimbabwe for business and dialogue.

Still in the media industry, Zimpapers recently appointed the first ever female editor for The Sunday Mail, Victoria Ruzvidzo. In the private sector, there are women such as AB Communications CEO, Susan Makore, and several others who are part of the decision-making matrix in media houses. This is proof that we are headed in the right direction when it comes to women participation in the media.

FS: Do we have enough women in leadership positions?

MM: I believe we have made strides in terms of opening up opportunities for women across the board. Since the coming in of the New Dispensation we have seen the rise of women into key positions in Government and in various commissions. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba; Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe board chairperson Vimbai Nyemba; ZIMRA Commissioner-General Faith Mazani; Women’s Bank CEO Mandas Makarinda and the Auditor-eneral Mildred Chiri are some of the women who are making major moves in the country and they are the trailblazers for all others who aspire to do their part in developing this country. Relatedly, we have seen the appointment of the country’s first ever Minister of Defence, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, who is also my party, Zanu-PF’s first woman chairperson. One could say, the New Dispensation has ushered in a wave of firsts for women and as such we can expect to see more women taking up leadership positions.

FS: There have been concerns such as abuse of female journalists and interns in newsrooms. How have you addressed the issue?

MM: One of the first issues I attended to when I assumed office as Minister of Information was to meet with media organisations and the media houses to tackle various challenges affecting journalists and abuse of female journalists and interns is one issue I have spoken about at length at each of these engagements.

I also plan to take it a step further and meet with deans at universities and colleges in order to hammer the point home that abuse will not be tolerated not just in the workplace, but even in the learning institutions.

Equally, as part of media reforms, we are looking at working conditions in the media industry with a view to increase professionalism and set up structures that will deal with grievances, salaries, employment conditions and a code of conduct. This will go a long way in addressing the issue of abuse.

FS: Are women issues in general finding voice in the media?

MM: Women are an integral part of society and they cannot be left behind by the media. The media is celebrating women’s achievements now more than ever; this is partly thanks to the developmental thrust that the country has adopted. There cannot be development if women who make up more than half of the population are not heard and do not contribute to the national discourse.

As a ministry, we have taken it upon ourselves to ensure that parastatals that fall under our ambit are overseen by boards that are not only gender sensitive, but where there is an odd number of members, female members are the majority. This is part of the process of ensuring that as women we are part of the decision-making processes when it comes to media issues.

The country’s main daily, The Herald, has a Gender Editor, who is responsible for all gender issues reported in that paper. That particular paper also makes sure to give equal voice to sources and subjects in its stories and pictures. It is my intention to engage with other media houses to ensure they have the point persons dealing with gender issues and issues of gender parity.

ZBC has several programmes that highlight women and their stories, these include Women in Farming, Women in Business, Girl Child, and The Scribe.

FS: What should be done in the long term is to ensure women’s participation, ownership and finding a voice in the media?

MM: I encourage women to take advantage of opportunities that Government has availed that include the Women’s Bank, which is an initiative that addresses issues to do with exclusion of women from the financial sector as most do not have savings or collateral. As women we have a whole ministry dedicated to us, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, SMEs and Community Development which is also breaking ground in capacitating women so that they can set up and successfully run their own projects and businesses.

I am a mentor, and I have seen the benefits and rewards that come through mentoring young women. Initiatives such as mentorship programmes help in not just nurturing talent, but also provide a network which as women we can use to uplift each other. The media plays an important role of not only providing women with information of which opportunities are available for them, but also showcasing the strides women are taking in. Section 56 (2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe on equality and discrimination clearly states that women and men have the right to equal treatment including to the right to equal opportunities in political, economic, cultural and social spheres. It further states that every person has the right not to be treated in an unfairly discriminatory manner on such grounds as custom, culture, sex, gender, marital status, age, pregnancy, disability among other grounds. In addition, Section 17 of the Constitution calls upon Government to ensure full gender balance and to take measures to promote the full participation of women in all spheres based on equality with men.

This includes 50/50 representation in all institutions, agencies of government, commissions and other elective bodies at all levels. The Government of Zimbabwe also made significant strides in putting in place Laws and Policies that promote gender equality and women empowerment such as the National Gender Policy which provides a guiding framework for mainstreaming gender in all sectors of the economy. The Zimbabwe Gender Commission was also established to deal with gender discrimination. Furthermore, various progressive pieces of legislation have been enacted which promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. These include;

* Equal Pay Regulations (1980)

* Legal Age of Majority Act (LAMA) which was promulgated in 1980

* Public Service Pensions (Amendment) Regulations (1985).

* Matrimonial Causes Act (1987).

* Sexual Offences Act now part of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (2001).

* Labour Act (2006).

* Domestic Violence Act (2007).

At the global level, Zimbabwe has ratified a number of International and Regional Instruments that promote gender equality and women’s empowerment like the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa and the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development among other instruments.

Government through the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Communuity, Small and Medium Enterprises Development led by my colleague Hon Sithembiso Nyoni is also developing a National Strategy on Women in Decision Making. The main objective of the Strategy is to increase women’s participation in decision making in public, political and private sectors. The Strategy will also inform the formulation of specific gender equality laws that promote and ensures boardroom diversity paying particular attention to gender. The Ministry has also developed a Girls and Young Women Empowerment Framework, which advocates for the inclusion of girls and young women in decision making and leadership positions. This covers all sectors including the media.

Hi...are these parties still happening as I do go through to Zims every so often and would like to get in touch with some nice Zim guys for friendship, partying and more.

GAP - Global Art Project      Cache   Translate Page

GAP - Global Art Project

Originally Carl Heyward (San Francisco, California USA) and Lorna Crane (New South Wales, Australia) began a friendship and correspondence via Heyward's KNEE(jerk) Fragmentation (mail art) PROJECT in 2011 which consists of a one-for-one exchange of post card sized art works made exclusively for the project that has attracted over 500 artist- participants and produced over 3,000 individual art works. The idea of fragmentation is central to his aesthetic mission in that the pieces of a culture, the debris, the archaeological products of waste and discard give evidence of culturally assigned value and worth; of conscious and sublimated preoccupations of contemporary culture and that their combination through collage, assemblage and other art methods allows a reading of place and time that includes and transcends these elements. Heyward is currently considering museums, galleries and archives to donate part of this collection and is preparing traveling exhibitions.
He and Crane developed a dialog in the course of this project recognizing the resonance of their personal imagery and founded ZIMBABWE(two-step) to encourage their own practice as a collaborative device, each marking a canvas or surface and sending intact or as a fragment to the other shortly after launching KNEE(jerk).

In the course of these electric endeavors, both artists have exhibited in their respective countries as well as having participated in international shows. In expanding their inclusion of other artists in the aforementioned and similar projects, Heyward and Crane added painter Joan Stennick of San Francisco (she has exhibited widely in two-person shows with him as well as her own solo exhibitions); Akiko Suzuki an award winning contemporary quilt maker from Osaka, Japan; the hugely popular self-taught Vered Gersztenkorn (Tel Aviv, Israel) a painter-collagist; and Chaewon Laura Oh of Seoul, Korea a multi-media artist and accomplished portraitist, completing the GLOBAL ART PROJECT in November 2013.
GAP - Vered Gersztenkorn - Tel Aviv - Israël
Our work reflects individual, personal and global concerns by virtue of intention. We are creating and exhibiting work that allows the freedom of expression by the very opportunity to communicate beyond language and culture with diverse artists form all over the world while remaining open to the opportunities of the moment accessed through this circumstance in a settings such as Mazatlan Mexico, Marin County, San Francisco and Benicia, California as well as Venice, Lecce and Treviso, Italy, sites of our workshops, demonstrations, workshops and studio environments.
We are linked by activity in mixed-media art practice, which may be reduced to working with the materials at hand and has antecedents in collage, assemblage, found-object and related practice.

GAP (Global Art Project) is an international group of artists working in various media, promoting collaboration, experimentation and mutual development of art practice meet again in Lecce, Italy after exhibitions and workshops in Mazatlan, Mexico at Museo de Arte de Mazatlan, Marin MOCA, The Arsenal in Benicia, Ca., Tonio Jazz Festival, and Ca' Zanardi (GAP Venice JULY 2014). 2015:  two rotating exhibitions at Gallery Cittadino and Fondo Verri augmented by intensive private mixed-media workshops at Monna Lisa studios (September 20-October 4) followed by collaborative studio practice.
This is an international, multi-cultural, multi-national, pan-ethnic conglomerate.
The diverse group of painters, mixed-media artists, textile, photo and collage practitioners share a common interest in what they term FRAGMENTATION: the taking of disparate elements (FRAGS) not ordinarily associated with art practice and combining them with creative passion, inventive ingenuity and above all, a belief in the democratization of the art process from inception to execution to presentation to acquisition.
GAP champions collaborative activity as a vehicle for stimulation and enhanced creative discovery having experienced the rewards of group interaction and the illuminating effect in enhancing personal practice.

Having corresponded for a number of years via electronic social media, the nascent GAP members initiated exchanges of shards of paper, fabric, photos...found objects, whatever caught their fancy and built, initially depending upon the vagaries of international postal systems, vibrant surprising collages, paintings and constructions reflecting the international flavor of the gathered, exchanged, rotated and deconstructed elements; the sensibility and selection of the artists, one adding a frag here ,another a mark there, in an adding and subtraction, expansion and reduction of aesthetic impulses in exercises that produced works on fabric, paper and canvas in the spirit of FLUXUS, COBRA and EXQUISITE CORPSE, perhaps the spiritual antecedents of GAP activity.

GAP currently preps for additional residencies in Chicago, Mumbai and Rotterdam. Furthermore GAP will revisit Italy in 2016 with residencies, workshops and exhibitions in Venice. As realized during 2015, GAP will once more reside in Lecce for an artist in residency at Monna Lisa Studios, curated by Monica Lisi and Mario Catalano and exhibit their work at Gallery Cittadino and association Fondo Verri.
