Ethiopian Airlines (Αιθιοπία) , Comair (Νότια Αφρική), Cayman Airways (Νησιά Κέιμαν), Aeroméxico (Μεξικό).

Norwegian (Νορβηγία), Air Italy (Ιταλία), Icelandair (Ισλανδία), Southwest (ΗΠΑ), American Airlines (ΗΠΑ), S7 Airlines (Ρωσία), Turkish Airlines (Τουρκία), Air Canada (Καναδάς), Westjet (Καναδάς), Aeromexico (Μεξικό), Aerolinas Argentinas (Αργεντινή), GOL Airlines (Βραζιλία), SilkAir (Σιγκαπούρη), Spicejet (Ινδία), Jet Airways (Ινδία), flydubai (Ντουμπάι), LOT (Πολωνία), TUIfly.

Ποιες αεροπορικές εταιρείες έχουν το Max;

Rant: The Seafood Expo: Why Aren't You Going?       Cache   Translate Page
This upcoming Sunday, thousands of fascinating and tasty creatures from the sea, a deluge of seafood, will descend on Boston. This epic event is one of the top food events of the year, but it seems to be ignored by most local writers and bloggers. Why aren't you planning on attending the Seafood Expo North America (SENA)?

Starting on Sunday, March 17, and ending on Tuesday, March 19, SENA returns to Boston, and it is probably the largest seafood event in the country. If you are a writer, from freelancer to a blogger, and cover any topics related to seafood, from recipes to sustainability, then I strongly encourage you to attend. As I have said repeatedly before, "the seafood show is fertile soil for a myriad of story ideas as each exhibit booth has its own unique and interesting story." Any writer who attends this show should easily find the seeds for at least a dozen stories, and likely many more.

SENA is a huge trade show, and last year there were about 1341 exhibitors, representing 57 different countries, showcasing a wide diversity of products and services. The total exhibit space is about 258,630 square feet, broken down into 30+ aisles of the Expo, so just walking through the show makes for great cardio exercise. With the vast number of exhibitors, you're sure to find plenty of fascinating stories. Even if you attended all three days, you still wouldn't have enough time to visit all of the booths.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about a myriad of seafood issues, to talk to numerous seafood businesses, to explore the seafood industry. You can discover more about different countries, such as by visiting the pavilions for Japan or Iceland. In addition, the show is fun, with plenty of delicious seafood samples, from lobster to oysters. Ever had salmon bacon? Fried alligator? You never know what might be available to sample at SENA. SENA presents a range of interesting conference panels too, and this year you can attend ones such as  "Seafood Trends & Preferences at Home & Away from Home" or "Changing the Narrative on Sustainable Aquaculture in the Culinary Community." You can also attend the annual Oyster Shucking Competition.

We all know that seafood is at the crux of some of the most important food issues in the world. The range of seafood topics touches on so many crucial matters, from sustainability to health, climate change to slavery. Seafood is integral to the economic health of many local businesses, from fishermen to restaurants. The potential extinction of certain fish species is a major concern that needs to be addressed. These are all issues which need much more coverage by the media, and which you can make your own contributions.

Why do I care? First, I view our local writers and bloggers as a community and I believe we all benefit by helping each other, giving recommendations for excellent events. Second, I feel that seafood is a vital topic which more people need to write about so that we raise attention to all of its urgent issues. That will benefit all of us in many ways. It is with greater exposure and cooperative efforts that we can cause change in the seafood industry. Third, it is a sad fact that there are four times as many negative articles about seafood than positive ones, and we need to change that ratio.

So I hope to see you next weekend at the Seafood Expo North America.

170 Years Of German Publishers Demanding Special Copyrights For The Press Because Of New Technology      Cache   Translate Page

While much of the focus on the debate over the EU Copyright Directive has focused on the upload filters of Article 13, we should be equally worried about the snippet taxes of Article 11, which journalists have already made clear will be used to enrich publishers at the expense of actual journalism (that is, if it leads to any money at all -- since attempts to pass basically the same law in both Germany and Spain failed to produce the expected revenue windfall).

Former Icelandic Parliament member Asta Helgadottir recently put together quite an amazing Twitter thread detailing 170 years of German news publishers demanding special extra copyrights just for their industry -- each time insisting that without it, new technologies would kill journalism. You can also read the whole thing on a single page at Threader, but here's a (lightly edited) snippet:

1850: German Press publishers want #copyright of news because the newly arrived technology of the telegram is ruining their business model. It is rejected.

1886: German Press Publishers want news to be covered by copyright in the Berne convention. It is rejected, and copyright exception for news is established.

1908: German Press Publishers want to limit the possibility of reproduction of news by #copyright in the Berlin meeting for the Berne convention. It is rejected, as copyright is intended for inherently creative production.

1908: The Berlin conference thus reiterates their 1886 distinction of creative production and non-creative information and news with regards to #copyright protection.

Volkswagen Group reveals 2018 sales figures and best-selling models for each brand      Cache   Translate Page

A sales boost in China helped the Volkswagen Group to sell 10.9 million units in 2018
The empire sold 10.9 million cars worldwide in 2018, largely thanks to trend-busting growth EU and China

The Volkswagen Group’s global car sales crept up to 10.9 million last year from 10.77 million in 2017, largely down to gains in the European Union (EU) and China.

The group’s sales in the EU were up 1.2% and sales in the Chinese market rose 0.5%, despite both markets contracting overall. However, Volkswagen Group sales were down 2% year on year in the US, with a total of 960,000.

The overall rise was largely thanks to the success of the Group’s expanded SUV line-up, and that trend is set to continue following the recent launches of the Volkswagen T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq.

Despite that, however, long-standing saloon and hatchback models remain highly popular, still accounting for several of the Group’s best-sellers in 2018.

Here’s how each of the main Volkswagen Group car brands fared last year, with their 2018 best-sellers.

Volkswagen

The Volkswagen brand itself sold 3,715 million vehicles in 2018 and achieved a profit margin of 3.8%, down from 4.2%. It’s operating return was hit by continued ‘special’ payments relating to the Dieselgate scandal.

Volkswagen’s best-sellers

1: Tiguan: 861,331

2: Polo/Virtus: 855,179

3: Golf: 805,752

Audi

The upmarket volume brand sold 1.812 million cars in 2018, down 3.5% on the previous year. As a result, profit margins fell from 8.5% to 7.9%. According to Volkswagen Group boss Herbert Diess, Audi was the brand hardest hit by the new WLTP test procedures, and it's still likely to be affected by that during 2019.

Audi’s best-sellers

1: A4: 344,623

2: A3: 304,903

3: Q5: 298,645

Skoda

Skoda sold 1.254 million cars, up 4.4%. Its profit margin fell to 8% from 9.7%, but the drop was largely attributed to the effects of exchange rates. Notably, the Czech firm has experienced production issues in that it has struggled to find enough capacity to meet demand for its Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs.

Skoda’s best-sellers

1: Octavia: 400,210

2: Rapid: 195,270

3: Fabia: 186,213

Seat

Seat sold 528,029 cars in 2018, up 10.5%, fuelled by the success of its Ateca, Arona and Tarraco SUV line-up. The Spanish firm’s profit margin was up to 2.5% from 1.9%.

Seat's best sellers

1: Leon: 159,486

2: Ibiza: 120,287

3: Arona:110,926

Bentley

Bentley sales dipped to 9115 from 10,552, while profit margins dropped from 3% to -18%. The delay in the start-up of the new Continental GT and a restructuring of the firm’s pension fund were the key reasons for that fall, according to the Volkswagen Group.

Bentley’s best-sellers

1: Bentayga: 4072

2: Continental GT: 2841

3: Flying Spur: 1627

Porsche

Sales in 2018 were up to 268,451 from 255,683, but profit margins were down to 17.4% from 18.5%, attributed to extra research spending on electrification.

1: Macan: 93,953

2: Cayenne: 79,111

3: 911: 36,236

Lamborghini

Lamborghini is managed under the Audi brand and Volkswagen doesn't break out its profits, but sales in 2018 jumped from 6571 to 4056, driven by the new Urus SUV.

1: Urus: 2565

2: Huracán: 1669

3: Huracán Spyder: 1121

Dozens Of Countries Ground Boeing's 737 Max 8 Following Deadly Crash In Ethiopia       Cache   Translate Page

Airline regulators across the globe are grounding Boeing 737 Max 8 planes, joining an ever expanding list of countries banning the plane from their airspace. This comes in the wake of Sunday's deadly plane crash in Ethiopia that killed all 157 people on board. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The latest move came Tuesday from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) when it announced a suspension of two Boeing 737 Max models in all flights in the European bloc.

The wave of bans follows the Civil Aviation Administration of China's decision on Monday to order the country's airlines to suspend all commercial operations of their Boeing 737 Max 8 jets.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration does not plan to ground the jets in the United States but is facing growing pressure to do so.

The FAA announced Monday that it would require a series of design changes for the Boeing 737 Max fleet.

In the U.S., Southwest Airlines uses a fleet of 34 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft and is not planning any change in service. Likewise, American Airlines, which operates 24 of the planes, is not planning to ground them.

1925: The conference of industrial property in the Hague rejects a proposal to make news industrial property, citing the decision of the Berne convention.

Seventy-five years of trying to make some intellectual property protection of news had failed. Trying to cover news by #copyright seemed to be hopeless.

1920s: The wireless technology threatens the established German Press Publishers. The fact that any owner of a wireless could listen to the news! Blasphemy.

1920s: "News Theft" explodes in Germany. The big press publishers are astonished by the fact that people are not willing to pay a hefty fee to buy their printed material.

1927: The Germans lobby for a resolution within League of Nations giving unpublished news #copyright protection, governmental news in the public domain, but published news were up to each national authority.

1928: The German ministry propose a law to protect news of the day and miscellaneous information with intellectual property at home. "vermischte Nachrichten tatsächlichen Inhalts und Tagesneuigkeiten"

1928: The emergence of the radio was one of the biggest reasons in the German's new News law as it undermined the news industry.

1928-1933: The debate of the new German press law continues but is never realized because the ascension of the Nazi government and new press control laws made it redundant.

It goes on from there into modern times, and the story is always the same. German publishers demanding special extra copyrights on factual reporting, and whining over and over again about new technology upsetting its business model and threatening the "future of journalism" or whatever. And every single time they were wrong. They didn't get the special copyrights and journalism survived (and in some cases thrived).

Given this background, why is it that EU bureaucrats are now suddenly taking those very same German publishers at their word when they insist that the internet is destroying their business, and they need these special copyrights (with the friendly name of "neighboring rights") that serve no purpose other than as a wealth transfer from internet companies to legacy publishers who have failed to innovate?

Man Booker International prize 2019 longlist sees small publishers win big      Cache   Translate Page

Judges praise the 13 finalists – all but two published by indie houses – for ‘enriching our idea of what fiction can do’

The “finest works of translation from around the world” are almost exclusively published by independent presses – at least according to the Man Booker International prize, which has unveiled a longlist of 13 books with only two showings from major publishing houses.

The prize is worth £50,000 to its winners, split equally between author and translator. This year’s longlist ranges from Chinese author Can Xue’s Love in the New Millennium, set in a world of constant surveillance and translated by Annelise Finegan Wasmoen, to Palestinian-Icelandic writer Mazen Maarouf’s Jokes for the Gunmen, a collection of stories set in a war zone told from the perspective of a child, translated from Arabic by Jonathan Wright.

Meet Hatari: Iceland's Controversial Entry in This Year's Eurovision Song Contest      Cache   Translate Page

“Our message is a warning in uncovering the dystopia that is happening in Europe, in America, all over the world” - Matthias Haraldsson of Hatari

The 2019 Eurovision song contest is a controversial one, as it will be held in Tel Aviv, Israel from May 14-18. There were several calls for countries to boycott the long-running international music competition, but no countries ended up officially doing so.

Iceland's entrant into this year's song contest, however, has proven to be quite divisive and is drumming up a great deal of controversy of their own - with some Israeli groups calling for the group to be banned from participating this year over concerns that they are using the contest as a political platform (politics are not allowed at Eurovision - but are always a part of Eurovision).

Hatari have emerged clearly as a fan favourite (although they do have their fair share of haters) with their anti-capitalism message, BDSM inspired stage outfits, sarcastic and trollish sensibilities, and their overall political commentary that seems especially apt given the discussions taking place both globally in a political sense as well as within the frame of Eurovision this year.

HATARI'S 2019 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST ENTRY - HATRIÐ MUN SIGRA (TRANSLATION: HATE WILL PREVAIL)

The Independent conducted a great interview with Hatari recently (which you can read, in full, at the source posted above - which OP highly suggests you do!). Below are a few highlights:

Klemens Hannigan: “As soon as people start placing us within a genre, we instinctively react against that in trying to avoid a stamp. We started out with long hair and Mattias screeching, appealing to the metalhead scene. Our participation in Eurovision is yet another experiment.”

Matthias Haraldsson: “You sign up to a contract that says you’re not allowed to be political in the competition, but if anyone thinks they’re going to Tel Aviv without a political message they couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a paradox because all of the songs that make it to that stage will offend the sensibilities of many people by virtue of the context of where the contest is taking place, and the legitimate criticisms many people have.So that in itself is a breach of the Eurovision rules. You can’t go to Tel Aviv and perform on that stage without breaking the rules of Eurovision. That goes for us and everyone else. And you can’t be completely silent about the situation, as the silence in itself is a massive political statement too.”

'If it’s Boeing, I’m not going’: People are freaking out about flying on the same plane that has now crashed twice in 5 months (BA)      Cache   Translate Page

Iceland Air Boeing 737 MAX

    • Boeing 737 Max 8 operated by Ethiopian Airlines was the second such plane to crash in five months on Sunday.
    • No cause has been determined, but its similarities to the Lion Air crash in October have caused several major countries to ban the airplane.
    • Boeing says it will soon roll out software updates to fix a problem with how the plane flies.
    • Still, people on Twitter were freaking out about flying on the same plane.
    • Some airlines, like Southwest, said they were working with passengers on an individual basis to change their trip.

Ethiopian Airlines' deadly crash on Sunday was the second disaster involving a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft in the last five months.

The apparent similarities to the crash of Lion Air in October has sparked an outcry from US lawmakers as other countries — including Germany, Britain, France, and more — ground the plane pending further investigation. It also sparked fear among potential passengers on Twitter.

President Trump didn't assuage their fears when he tweeted Tuesday without evidence that modern planes have become "too complex to fly." To be sure, the crash rate of Boeing 737 Max 8's is still extremely low, and air travel is extremely safe today compared to decades past.

Ispy Glambag October 2014      Cache   Translate Page

I got my October Glambag yesterday. This months theme was Beauty Candy.

I LOVE the the bag this month. It is so cute, the only thing that could make it better is if it were pink or purple, but I will live with the pretty teal color.

Enclosed in this months bag was:

1.  Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths. I like cleansing cloths but mostly use baby wipes (if it's gentle enough for baby, it's gentle enough for me LOL).

2.  Doll 10 Highlighter in Champagne. I have never used highlighter but am willing to try.

3.  City Color Be Matte Lipstick in Cappuccino. I love lipsticks and lipgloss but I think I am getting to the point that I have received enough for awhile from Ipsy. I will have to look into how to stop them.

4.  Model Co Volumeyes mascara. I like mascara but I need length not volume, I will use it anyway.

5.  Figs and Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin. I like hand cream and was hoping for the other scent (rose berry). I don't like the smell of Mango, it smells like cat pee. Sorry if I ruined mango for you, it's a public service really, you don't want to smell like cat pee. Having said all that, this really doesn't smell like cat pee, I tried it and there is not lingering cat smell. It has potential. This was a full sized product.

Overall, this is a good bag, but not wonderful. I got my moneys worth but still not super excited about it.

"US Envoy Tried to Freeze Made-Up Venezuelan Accounts in Swiss Banks in Prank" (buried the lede) (see also):
"The pranksters also held one more conversation with Abrams in March, according to Russia 24, where the Special Representative told them that the US is not planning military intervention in Venezuela, but would like to “make the Venezuelan military nervous,” regarding possible guarantees ruling out military threats from the US to be “a tactical mistake.” However, according to the phone call, Abrams said that the main sources of leverage against the Venezuelan government are still financial, economic and diplomatic pressure."
"Venezuela: Broad Support for Guaidó Reveals Stark Contempt for International Law" (Quinn).

Tweet (Alan MacLeod):
"This article from an 🇦🇷Argentina is pretty 🔥🔥🔥 It reveals: 1. Guaidó managed to convince Mike Pence half the military would join him 2. Pence somehow believed him 3. 0.1% of the Venezuelan army has joined Guaidó 4. Pence is furious at Guaidó"
I'm not sold on this, as I doubt Pence is listening to Guido, but he may very well be furious at the CIA for their typical horrendous intelligence work.  Of course, this may just be setting up Trump throwing Guido under the bus on the basis that he lied to Pence.

"Pure: Ten Points I Just Can’t Believe About the Official Skripal Narrative" (Murray):
"The very first person to discover the Skripals ill on a park bench in Salisbury just happened to be the Chief Nurse of the British Army, who chanced to be walking past them on her way back from a birthday party. How lucky was that? The odds are about the same as the chance of my vacuum cleaner breaking down just before James Dyson knocks at my door to ask for directions. There are very few people indeed in the UK trained to give nursing care to victims of chemical weapon attack, and of all the people who might have walked past, it just happened to be the most senior of them!"
"The MSM just realised the “Integrity Initiative” is a thing" (Knightly) (for more background on the scalliwags involved, see also tweets by Tim Hayward). The (((media))) kept the entire Integrity Initiative scandal under wraps until they needed it for another evidence-less Russian hacking claim!

Greenwald versus MI6.  "Michael Cohen Scooped by Julian Assange" (Garrison).  This whole mess started when Stone, trying to get hired by the Trump campaign, claimed he had privileged access to Assange, and thus Clinton emails. He didn't have such access - his friend Credico may have had it - but Stone's self-advertising has grown into a monster in the hands of the Clintonistas.

The American government is going after Assange again through pressure on Manning (and through the usual American abuse of the IMF):  "With Ecuador’s Cooperation Bought by IMF Loans, Washington Waxes Optimistic on Assange Extradition" (Webb).

Tweet (Canada Middle East Progress):
"You were pretty ok with Palestinian Journalists being shot by the IDF in Gaza."
Speaking of Nazis:  "Deputized As Election Monitors, Ukrainian Ultranationalists 'Ready To Punch' Violators". This is strange coming from Radio Free Europe, which would normally be singing hosannas at these CIA assets.

Tweet (Seth Mandel) (the first President to take the shekels, and in return recognized the Khazar land theft against all the advice of his own experts):
"Nothing but respect for MY president"
Rahm went as a volunteer to assist the IDF in its mass murdering, literally the definition of 'dual loyalty' (see also the concentration camp guard, and the Goldman guy at the JTY who runs their Trump-collusion racket)!:  "I’ve Faced the Charge of Dual Loyalty".  Rahm wanted to run again for mayor of Chicago, but couldn't as the people of Chicago despise him too much.

Note that Pelosi's silly omnibus anti-hate resolution offends the first principle of Khazar indoctrination of the silly goyim, which is that there is no other suffering on a moral plane with Khazar suffering.  "Speaking from the House floor on Thursday, Engel said he supports the resolution, but that he wished the resolution would single out just anti-Semitism."

"Shock & horror: Anti-Semitism spreads to China" (The Irish Savant):
". . . a new best-seller called Currency Wars has really set the cat among the pigeons. The book’s author, Song Hongbing, claims that behind world-changing events like the battle of Waterloo, Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, President Kennedy’s assassination, and the deep recession in Asia during the 1990s stood an intricate conspiracy aimed at increasing Jews’ wealth and influence. In fact he claims that almost every defining historical moment has been instigated by Jewish bankers, and mainly the Rothschild family, which Song says dominates the global banking system, including the US Federal Reserve System."
"French resist effort to censor criticism of Zionism" (Abunimah).  Resistance to the Khazarocracy is breaking out all over.

Note that they'll put up with just about anything except pissing off Soros:  "The end of Germany’s Orbán affair" (Karnitschnig).

"Embassy Staffers Say Jared Kushner Shut Them Out of Saudi Meetings" (Banco).

The standard wide range of opinion in American high-level 'journalism', from blood-pouring-from-the-fangs Zionist, all the way over to blood-pouring-from-the-fangs Zionist.

"North Korea as a Small Great Power" (Korhonen/Mori):
"Addendum: March 1, 2019
The text of the article was finalized in February 2019, about a week before the Hanoi summit of 27-28 February. The fact that President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un ended their meeting without an agreement does not appear to us as a big surprise. There is still a gap in the American perception of North Korea, especially on the point of steadfastly maintaining the full array of international sanctions, which for North Korea are not only an economic issue, but also an issue of prestige and an indication of the existing level of confidence, which they appear to deem to be too low still. However, this gap also seems to be closing little by little. Both leaders treated each other with cordial respect, and the comments from both sides after the summit allowed ample leeway for further negotiations. As Rüdiger Frank suggests, we should view the summit not as a failure, but as a step along the process whereby US-North Korean relations are developing from infancy to maturity ‘US-North Korea Relations: From Infancy to Maturity’, 38North. A sensible historical precedent for this meeting would probably be the 1986 summit between President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev in Reykyavik, Iceland. Also at that time the talks collapsed and the leaders parted without an agreement, but both parties then knew much better the essential points of each other’s positions and the array of domestic pressures they were facing, leading a year later to a positive breakthrough in their relations. This is also completely possible in the US-North Korean negotiations."
Tweet (John Clarke):
""This is the greatest success of the ’s hasbara: Say one critical word about and you’re labeled an . And labeled an anti-Semite, your fate is obvious. has to break this cursed cycle.""
Tweet (Ben Kling):
"I know it's cliche to say so, but this hospital charging parents "$39.95" to hold their newborn baby is a REALLY tight microcosm of capitalism."

Pam Ann returns to Feinstein's at the Nikko with BING BONG      Cache   Translate Page

Ladies and gentlemen, at this time we ask that you fasten your seatbelts and secure all baggage in the overhead compartments...it's gonna be a bumpy ride! Following a sold-out engagement in 2018, iconic international celebrity airhostess Pam Ann returns to Feinstein's at the Nikko with her latest show, Bing Bong, on Wednesday, June 12 (7 p.m.) and Thursday, June 13 (8 p.m.). Pam's barbed wit has seen her fly many a risky route and negotiate even the most politically incorrect flight path with her blisteringly funny take on the world of airlines and aircrew. Nothing is out of reach of her pristine white gloves, strutting up the aisle with a trolley full of beautifully unpredictable, acerbic airline satire. Tickets for Pam Ann range in price from $45-$85 and are available now by calling 866-663-1063 or visiting www.feinsteinsatthenikko.com.

Pam Ann has evolved since first jetting out of her hometown of Melbourne 20 years ago. Pam-the alter-ego of Australian comedian-writer-producer Caroline Reid-has developed a cult like status both here and overseas with her masterful portrayal of an international hostie.

There's not much Pam hasn't seen or done-from crewing Elton John's private jet at his express request, sharing a stadium stage on a tour of the UK with Cher, and counting Madonna in her legion of devoted fans worldwide. When she's not jet-setting with the stars or flying the world sourcing material for her next performance, she can be found selling-out every stage she hits-from New York's Hammerstein Ballroom to San Francisco's Castro Theatre, Sydney's iconic State Theatre to Melbourne's Athenaeum. She's headlined at the legendary Caroline's on Broadway in New York, performed at the prestigious London Palladium, The Royal Albert Hall and sold out two shows at the 3600 seat Hammersmith Apollo - her largest solo audience to date. True to her status as an international comedy icon, she's toured UK, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong, USA, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Belgium, France, and Canada.

In her native Australia, Pam Ann starred on her own television talk show, "The Pam Ann Show," on the national Foxtel channel. She also hosted Australia's live broadcast of Mardi Gras 2009, which aired in more than two million households.

Among Pam Ann's greatest hits: an advertising campaign and training videos for British Airways, the inclusion of her hit live show, "Come Fly with Me," on Qantas' in-flight programming, and the face of London's Heathrow SkyTeam Terminal. Pam Ann also performed on the first-ever JetPride flight for JetBlue, a first for a U.S. carrier.

Her caustic wit knows no bounds so fasten your seat belts and prepare to take off. The Queen of the Sky guarantees a turbulent flight.

Located within Hotel Nikko (222 Mason Street, San Francisco), Feinstein's at the Nikko presents a wide range of entertainers from stage and screen all within an intimate 140-seat cabaret setting. Past performers include Tony Danza, Lea Salonga, Megan Hilty, Minnie Driver, Jeff Goldblum, Billy Porter, Betty Buckley, Caissie Levy, Darren Criss, Megan Mullally and Stephanie Hunt, Jim Brickman, Kathleen Turner, Linda Eder, Cheyenne Jackson, Rita Moreno, Tommy Tune...and Michael Feinstein himself!

There is a $20 food and beverage minimum per person inside the showroom which guests can use towards cocktails as well as a variety of small plates crafted exclusively for Feinstein's at the Nikko, through Restaurant Anzu. Cheese and dessert platters will also be available in the showroom.

Full list: At least 33 countries ground Boeing's MAX 8 jets after Ethiopian Airlines crash      Cache   Translate Page

After two of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets crashed within 6 months, at least 36 countries and nearly 30 airlines have suspended operation of the fuel-efficient aircraft in the span of 2 days, AP reports.

Data: News reports; Map: Harry Stevens/Axios

Driving the news: The EU aviation authority banned flight operations of Boeing 737 Max jets, a huge blow to Boeing's efforts to maintain the confidence of governments and airlines. The U.S. and Canada are still allowing the aircraft to operate until more information is available from the Federal Aviation Administration.

  • Consumer Reports asked airlines, including American Airlines and Southwest, and the FAA in a statement to temporarily ground Boeing 737 Max 8 jets until a safety investigation is finished.
  • Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) have called for the jet to be grounded in the U.S. pending an investigation.

The state of play: There are 59 operators of the MAX series worldwide, per the FAA. U.S. airlines Southwest, American Airlines and United Airlines are still running their MAX series jets. American tweeted it's waiting on the outcomes of the National Transportation Safety Board investigation.

  • A growing number of countries are banning the Boeing 737 Max 8 from their airspaces and airlines are grounding their planes.
  • The model has been involved in two fatal crashes in five months, the most recent over Ethiopia.
  • The US has not banned the plane. Many other countries have.

This map shows all the countries that have banned the Boeing 737 Max 8, and where airlines have taken their own action.

The mass grounding comes after the plane model was involved in two fatal crashes within five months. The latest, over Ethiopia, killed 157 people on Sunday.

The countries shown above in red are those where government agencies have banned the plane from its airports, and, in some cases, from its airspace altogether.

Orange countries are those where at least one of its airlines has decided to ground the planes voluntarily.

Pishevari a Puppet or a Revolutionary !!!!      Cache   Translate Page

Stalin’s Letter to Pishevari ….
May 8th, 1946

To comrade Pishevari,
It seems to me that you misjudge the existing situation, inside Iran as well as in the international dimension.

First, You wanted to meet all revolutionary demands of Azerbaijan right now. But the existing situation precludes realization of this program. Lenin used to put forth revolutionary demands as practical demands, as practical demands only when the country experienced a grave revolutionary crisis aggravated by the unsuccessful war with external enemy. Such was the case in 1905 during the unsuccessful war with Japan and in 1917 during the unsuccessful war with Germany. You here want to emulate Lenin. This is very good and laudable.
However, the situation in Iran today is totally different. There is no profound revolutionary crisis in Iran. There are few workers in Iran and they are poorly organized. The Iranian peasantry still does not show any serious activism. Iran is not waging a war with external enemy that could weaken Iran’s revolutionary circles through a military failure. Consequently, there is no such situation in Iran that could support the tactics of Lenin in 1905 and 1917.
Second, Certainly, you could have counted on a success in the cause of the struggle for the revolutionary demands of the Azerbaijani people had the Soviet troops continued to remain in Iran. But we could no longer keep them in Iran, mainly because the presence of Soviet troops in Iran undercut the foundation of our liberationist policies in Europe and Asia. The British and Americans said to us that if Soviet troops could stay in Iran, then why could not British troops stay in Egypt, Syria, Indonesia, Greece, and also the American troops - in China, Iceland, in Denmark. Therefore we decided to withdraw troops from Iran and China, in order to seize this tool from the hands of the British and Americans, to unleash the liberation movement in the colonies and thereby to render our liberationist policy more justified and efficient. You as a revolutionary will certainly understand that we could not have done otherwise.
Third, All this said, one can come to the following conclusion with regard to the situation in Iran.
There is no profound revolutionary crisis in Iran. There is no state of war in Iran with external enemies, and, consequently, no military failures which could weaken the reaction and aggravate the crisis. So long as Soviet troops stayed in Iran, you had a chance to unfold the struggle in Azerbaijan and organize a broad democratic movement with far-reaching demands. But our troops had to leave and left Iran. What do have now in Iran? We have a conflict of the government of Qavam with the Anglophile circles in Iran who represent the most reactionary elements of Iran. As reactionary as Qavam used to be in the past, now he must, in the interests of self-defense and the defense of his government, carry out some democratic reforms and seek support among democratic elements in Iran. What must be our tactics under these conditions? I believe we should use this conflict to wrench concession from Qavam, to give him support, to isolate the Anglophiles, thus, and to create some basis for the further democratization of Iran. From this assumption stems all our advice to you. Of course, one could adopt a different tactic: to spit on everything, to break with Qavam and thereby ensure there a victory of the Anglophile reactionaries. Yet, this would not have been a tactic, but stupidity. This would have been in effect a betrayal of the cause of the Azerbaijani people and Iranian democracy.
Forth, You, as I found out, say that we first raised you to the skies and then let you down into the precipice and disgraced you. If this is true, it surprises us. What has really happened? We used the technique here that every revolutionary knows. In the situation similar to the situation of Iran today, if one wants to achieve a certain minimum of demands pursued by the movement, to movement has to run ahead, to progress beyond the minimal demands and to create a threat for the government, to ensure a possibility of concessions on the part of the government. Had you not run far ahead, you would not have had a chance in the current situation in Iran to achieve these demands  “ concessions”  that the government of Qavam has to make now. Such is the law of revolutionary movement. There could not be even mention of any disgrace for you. It is very strange that you think that we could have let you down in disgrace. On the contrary, if you behave reasonably and seek with our moral support the demands that would legalize essentially the existing factual position of Azerbaijan, then you would be blessed both by the Azeris and by Iran as a pioneer of the progressive democratic movement in the Middle East.
J. Stalin

Icelandair borrows ten billion krónur      Cache   Translate Page
Icelandair Group has taken a ten-billion-króna loan secured against ten of the jets it owns, according to a statement from the company on Monday evening. The statement said the company has borrowed 80 million US dollars from a domestic creditor. Morgunblaðið later claimed its sources say that creditor is Landsbankinn.  The exchange rate this week makes that about 9.7 billion krónur and is secured against ten Boeing aeroplanes owned by Icelandair Group. The money will be used as intermediate payments on the company's issued bonds, the statement says.  It is noteworthy that the Icelandair loan agreement is almost as much as Indigo Partners is considering investing to save WOW air. WOW air, however, does not own its own planes to use as collateral.
Justice minister steps down      Cache   Translate Page
BREAKING NEWS: Iceland's Minister of Justice Sigríður Á. Andersen has announced this afternoon that she is stepping down for as long as it takes to resolve the so-called Landsréttur case. At a press conference, Sigríður defended her record on appointing 15 judges to the new Landsréttur appeals court, at the same time as criticising the European Court of Human Rights and the way it handled the case. Despite insisting she has done nothing wrong and appointed the 15 judges with the support and cooperation of her party, her ministry, Alþingi, and the President, Sigríður said she is under no illusion that she has become a controversial figure in this case and that it would be helpful for the case if somebody else was in charge of the ministry while the case is concluded. Sigríður says she is confident this will be one of the roughly five percent of cases that the upper ECHR court will accept for appeal. Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir agreed at Alþingi immediately after the press conference that the ECHR decision is unprecendented and important for more European counties than just Iceland. Sigríður told the press conference that although she had informed her party chairman Bjarni Benediktsson of her decision, she had not forewarned the prime minister or others in the cabinet. Katrín Jakobsdóttir told reporters she supports the decision, because the case must be concluded without distraction, because the future of the entire appeals court is at stake. A final decision from Strasbourg could take a year-and-a-half, but it is not clear whether Sigríður will return to her ministry then, or in a few weeks when the next step becomes clear, or not at all. There appears to be widespread agreement in the government that yesterday's ECHR ruling is an unprecedented and harsh judgment against not only Sigríður, but the entire Icelandic establishment and that it should be appealed in the interest of more than one European country. Restoring trust in the judicial system and being seen to react positively to criticism are what matters most now, according to Viðreisn leader Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir. She stated emphatically that domestic politics and who the winners and losers might be from the situation are far less important than reacting to the strong ECHR ruling and fixing what is wrong.
Housing market still hot despite new homes      Cache   Translate Page
Many more new homes went on sale last year than in 2017. There was a 154 percent increase. A total of 362 homes went on sale this January across Iceland, according to new figures from ILS, the Housing Finance Fund. The figures show that only four percent of home purchases in the capital city this January were above the asking price. That percentage has not been lower since 2013. 14 percent of homes were sold for their asking price and 83 percent below it.  The number of homes in Iceland increased by around 2,400 last year, up to 140,600, according to ILS figures. The number of homes jumped by 1,800 in 2017, which was the biggest annual increase since 2008. 542 new homes were added in the capital city region. The next-highest increase was 227 new homes in Reykjanesbær.  The number of new rental contracts also increased this January when compared to the same month last year. 756 rental contracts were officially notarised this January. That figure was 16 percent up on last January.
Paddling against the current for years      Cache   Translate Page
A woman who was a man for 38 years is now preparing to paddle “the wrong way” around Iceland. She says her goal with the gruelling journey is to be able to say it was easier than her gender transition. Veigar is practicing hard these days: “I am going to paddle around Iceland and will hopefully be the first Icelandic woman to row around Iceland, as well as the first person to row anticlockwise, which nobody has done before. It’s a little bit symbolic. In many ways, I’ve been rowing against the current all my life,” says kayaker Veiga Grétarsdóttir.  The Icelandic word for anticlockwise roughly translates as “wrong way round”: rangsælis. Clockwise is réttsælis. Strong ocean currents flow clockwise around Iceland, making it significantly slower to kayak around the country anticlockwise.  For 38 years Veiga was called Grétar Veigar and was married and has two children. Five years ago, she started her transition and her life changed forever. She says it has taken time to learn to love herself. “But when one can be happy with what one sees in the mirror and satisfied with it, it is enormously important,” Veiga says.  Veiga believes the circuit of Iceland will take between two and four months. She is collecting for Píeta, the suicide prevention charity. “I want to be able to say after the trip that this was easier than the gender reassignment. That is kind of my goal. But first and foremost is just to experience the country, travel, and allow an old dream to play out.”

Some austerians will of course bring up Canada's austerity in the 1990s, which coincided with economic growth. And then claim it is causally linked. But that growth was really *in spite of* their budget cuts and surpluses, NOT because of it. More like the devaluation of the formerly overvalued Canadian dollar in the 1990s was what ultimately got Canada out of their 1980s funk, and the resulting rebound in growth (which masked the harmful effects of austerity) led to a greater tax take. Paul Krugman famously pointed that out, citing this graph. Note that their devaluation pre-dates their austerity by several years. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/NNCABIS Same thing happened in Iceland, with their economic miracle after their 2008 financial crisis. They actually had more austerity than any country not named Greece, but their massive currency devaluation (since their currency was so overvalued to begin with) again masked the harmful effects of budgetary austerity. Of course, jailing the banksters (instead of bailing then out like we did) did essentially eliminate moral hazard in the financial sector.

Press Releases: U.S.-EU Joint Committee Meeting Strengthens Transatlantic Civil Aviation Ties      Cache   Translate Page
Media Note
Office of the Spokesperson
Washington, DC
March 13, 2019

On March 8, delegations representing the United States, the European Union and its Member States, Norway, and Iceland, convened in Washington, DC for the 22nd meeting of the Joint Committee established under the U.S.-EU Air Transport Agreement of 2007, as amended. The delegations initialed an agreement to remove longstanding unfair time constraints on U.S. air carrier leases of aircraft with crew in the lucrative U.S.-EU air transport market. The two sides also discussed preparations to ensure that the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union would not disrupt air services.

Under the terms of the U.S.-EU Air Transport Agreement, U.S. and European representatives from both government and industry meet at least annually to discuss important issues in civil aviation relations between the United States and the European countries covered by the Agreement. Transatlantic flights linking the United States and Europe power growth and job creation, underpin valuable economic and commercial ties, and foster the shared goal of greater prosperity.

          Eyebright      Cache   Translate Page
Eyebright - Euphrasia officinalis

Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is an annual plant that grows wild in meadows, grassy areas, heaths, and pastures of Britain, northern and western Asia, North America, and Europe. It belongs to the Scrophulariaceae plant family, which also includes the foxglove plant.

Eyebright grows to a height of 4-8 inches (10-20 cm) and has small white or purple flowers with red spots. These petals resemble bloodshot eyes, suggesting the plant’s name and its eye-clearing action. Downy hairs cover the stems, which produce toothed leaves.

Eyebright is a semiparasitic plant. This means that it is nourished by the roots of other plants. Generally, it does not grow well if transplanted from the wild. The plant is harvested during the late summer or fall when the flowers are in bloom. The whole plant is cut off just above the root and then dried.

Eyebright contains vitamins A, C, D, and B complex; iron; silicon; and traces of iodine, copper, and zinc. Other components of eyebright include tannins, iridoid glycosides, the flavonoids rutin and quercetin, essential fatty acids, glycoside aucuboside, caffeic and ferulic acids, sterols, choline, and a volatile oil.

History

The Latin name Euphrasia is derived from the Greek word “Euphrosyne,” meaning gladness. Euphrosyne was the name of one of three Graces known for her joy and happiness. The ancient Greeks used eyebright to treat eye infections, thereby creating happiness.

Eyebright has been used as a folk medicine to treat eye inflammations and infections, coughs, and poor memory since the Middle Ages. The poet Milton mentions eyebright in his book Paradise Lost, in which the archangel Michael gives eyebright to Adam to cure an eye infection. In 1485, eyebright was listed in a German book on medicinal herbs. Many sixteenth century herbalists championed eyebright as a treatment for various eye diseases. During the time of Queen Elizabeth, an eyebright ale was popular. Dried eyebright was often combined with tobacco and smoked to provide relief for bronchial colds.

General use

Modern herbalists still prescribe eyebright as a popular remedy for eye irritations and disorders, such as conjunctivitis and blepharitis. Icelanders use the juice from the pressed plant to treat most eye afflictions. Scottish people make an infusion in milk for inflamed or weak eyes. Eyebright is used to treat poor vision, eye strain, eye infections, sensitivity to light, and eye ulcers. Eyebright’s antiseptic properties are highly regarded in soothing and cooling eyes that itch, burn, weep, and are red.

Eyebright is beneficial in the treatment of coughs, colds, allergies, sinusitis, hay fever, earaches, headaches, jaundice, throat and bronchial congestion, hoarseness, flu, and sinus inflammation. The flavonoids in eyebright act as anti-inflammatory agents that can help relieve inflamed mucous membranes of the eyes, sinuses, and upper respiratory tract. Eyebright’s astringent properties also help reduce inflammation and mucous drainage, making the plant a popular remedy for many allergy, cold, and sinus symptoms.

Preparations

The stems, leaves, and flowers of the plant are collected and dried for medicinal use. Eyebright is often combined with goldenseal to treat eye afflictions. Eyebright may also be combined with goldenrod, elder flower, and/or goldenseal to provide relief from congestion.

In homeopathy, Euphrasia officinalis is a remedy used to treat colds accompanied by a nonirritating, watery nasal discharge and frequent burning tears. Conjunctivitis with symptoms of red eyes and lips, and acrid, watery tears may also be treated with this remedy. Euphrasia officinalis is also used as a remedy for measles and allergies.

Eyebright is available in bulk form for teas or compresses, and in capsule and tincture forms. Capsules and tinctures should be used as directed on the commercial package.

To make a tea, 1 cup of boiling water is poured over 2-3 teaspoons of dried eyebright and steeped for 5-10 minutes. One cup should be drunk three times daily to maintain eyesight, relieve nasal congestion, and soothe coughs. This infusion can also be used as an eye bath to treat inflamed or painful eyes. The mixture is cooled, and then the eyes are bathed with the warm liquid three to four times daily.

To make a compress, 1-2 tablespoons of dried eyebright are simmered in 1 pint (0.4 l) of water for 10 minutes. The mixture is cooled and then strained. A clean cloth is dipped in the mixture, wrung out, and then placed over the eyes for 15 minutes several times daily. Caution should be used when applying compresses. An unsterilized, homemade compress of eyebright may contain bacteria that could lead to an eye infection.

Precautions

A qualified herbalist should be consulted before administering eyebright to children. Although herbalists maintain the benefits of eyebright, there are no known scientific studies or research to validate these claims.

Side effects

If a tincture solution of eyebright is placed on the eyes, tearing, itching, reddening, and swelling of the eyelids may develop because of the alcohol in the tincture. Eyebright may also cause a skin rash or nausea.

Ranked! The 10 best centre-backs in the world      Cache   Translate Page
10. Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham)Alderweireld endured a difficult time at Spurs whilea contract dispute led tohis awkwardbenching. Yet the Belgium international came backwithan excellent World Cup as his country finished third in Russia, and hesoon returned to Mauricio Pochettino'sfirst team despite being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer. An extension to his contract was triggered, but that only means he can leave for a cut-price fee this summer.Alderweireld is rarely caught out of position and is equally comfortable playing in a back three or back four. He’s a terrific passer too, and is particularly adept at spraying long diagonals out to the flanks.9. Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)Now into his seventh season as a Tottenham player, Vertonghen has developed into one of the world’s leading centre-backs – and arguably the foremost in the Premier League – over the last couple of years.Alderweireld's team-mate for club and countryis aggressive and an expert at wrestling the ball away from opposition strikers high upfield. He's strong in one-on-one duels and comfortable when forced to defend in wide areas– and the Belgian is also surprisingly adept at left-back, where he put in a stunning display against Borussia Dortmund earlier this season.8. Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)The grizzled Italian stalwart may have turned 34 in August, but he remains one of the standout players in his position. Strong in the tackle and commanding aerially, Chiellini is a wonderful reader of the game and an underrated passer from deep.Juve's defensive stalwart is still a mainstay in theBianconeribackline and will be integral as they look to land a Champions League win for the first time since 1996.7. Samuel Umtiti (Barcelona)Little was known of Umtiti outside his native France before summer 2016, but it didn’t take long for the centre-back to become a household name. Confirmation of his move from Lyon to Barcelona came midway through that year’s European Championship, when the defender turned in a flawless display on his international debut against Iceland in the quarter-finals.Umtiti isn’t the biggest at 6ft tall, but he more than makes up for his lack of height in other areas. Mobile, powerful and quick to anticipate danger, he’s also a good passer and ball-carrier from the heart of the backline. He was a key member of the France side that triumphed to win the World Cup in Russia.6. Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)Godin probably isn’t the type of centre-half who would thrive under Pep Guardiola or Maurizio Sarri, but he’s the perfect fit for Atletico Madrid and Uruguay. While he’s by no means poor in possession – the 32-year-old has shownthat he’s perfectly capable of carrying the ball upfield when the situation demands – Godin is more of an old-fashioned defender than most of his peers on this list.Gritty, rugged and aggressive, the former Villarreal stopper is invariably in the right places at the right times. Blessed with great powers of anticipation, he also has a useful knack for popping up with vital set-piece goals.5. Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)A classy yet understated operator in the Premier League's finest ever team, Laporte is the atypical Guardiola centre-back: stylish, comfortable in possession and not afraid to put his head where it hurts when things matter.Manchester City run a tight ship in large part thanks to Laporte, who joined them from Athletic Bilbao for £57m in January 2018. An ongoing international dispute– he could beeligible for Spain and France– means he hasn't actually played for either yet, having previously represented Les Bleusat youth level. That will surely change in the near future.4. Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)Ramos won't win too many popularity awards outside of the Bernabeu, and he's slipping down this list now, but it’s tough to dispute his position as one of the best defenders in world football. The Real Madrid captain is still his team’s heartbeat andalways rises to the big occasion, as hedemonstrated duringLos Blancos’ recent monopolisation of the Champions League trophy. His antics may be a turn-off– or hilarious, with that purposeful yellow card against Ajax in mind–but his aerial prowess in both boxes and all-round fighting spirit can only be admired.3. Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)Napoli may have lost Jorginho to Chelsea in the summer, but they'll have been delighted to keep the rest of their squad intact. Koulibaly is the man they'd have least liked to lose, after the Senegal international proved in 2017/18 that he deserves to be considered among the very best in his position.A commanding figure who’s difficult to get the better of either in the air or in a foot race, Koulibaly is rarely outmanoeuvred by opposition strikers. Most impressive, though, is his ability with the ball at his feet; Koulibaly is a magnificent passer who always manages to keep his cool in possession. He'll be the most in-demand stopper this summer.2. Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)Varane was outstanding at the 2018 World Cup, turning in superb performance after superb performance as France won the tournament for the second time in their history. That followedon from the four Champions Leagueand two La Liga titles he’d previously won – not a bad haul for a player who only turned 25 in April. This season has been less gold-tinged, but Varane is the complete central defender. He reads the game expertly and possesses the recovery speed to cover for team-mates’ mistakes, and he’s adept at stepping into midfield with the ball and setting his side on the attack if needs be too.1. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)Football is a team game and even the most talented individual will struggle to shine if the collective balance of the team isn’t right. Even so, it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that Van Dijk has transformed Liverpool’s defensive fortunes since his move from Southampton in January 2018; where once was a leaky backline that undermined a thrilling strike force now lies the bedrock of a title-challenging team. The Dutchman has never played at an international tournament or won a major trophy outside Scotland, but that doesn't matter right now: he's taken giant strides since his move to Anfield, and is a growing force for his country too. The 27-year-old has everything you’d want in a modern-day centre-back: strength, speed, aerial prowess, leadership qualities and ability on the ball. Five good reasons why he's the most expensive defender of all time.NOW READ...The making of Virgil van Dijk: how Liverpool's rock became the world's best defenderSee also...The 10 best strikers in the worldThe 10 best forwards in the worldThe 10 best central midfielders in the worldThe 10 best goalkeepers in the worldNew features you'd love on FourFourTwo.com

Ice Kilometer World Championship In 2013 vs 2019      Cache   Translate Page
Courtesy of Nuala Moore, Murmansk, Russia.

396 ice swimmers qualified for the IISA 3rd World Championship in Murmansk, Russia.

The largest contingent in the third edition of the ice swimming world championships is from Russia with 251 swimmers followed by Great Britain (19 swimmers), China (15), Ireland (15), Germany (120, Poland (12), Czech Republic and South Africa (9 each), Austria and Netherlands (8), Belarus, USA and France (4 each), Argentina, Estonia and Ukraine (3 each), Finland, Hong Kong and Spain (2 each) and 1 each from Australia, and Bulgaria, Chile, Iceland, Italy, Mongolia, Morocco, New Zealand, Romania, Slovakia and Switzerland (1 each).

Nuala Moore recalls the start-up mentality of the rapidly emerging ice swimming community from the early years in the 2013 world championships in Murmansk, Russia to this year. "2013 was the first world championship event in Murmansk where the conditions were in 0°C water for the 1000m swim. Melissa O Reilly, Jackie Cobell, Natalia Seraya and I took on the distance of 1000m. There were only four of us - I completed in 23 minutes.

The four of us ladies was the FULL start line of the 1000m - we were terrified. Natalie did the full distance swimming breaststroke and with just a wooly hat and without goggles. The number of swimmers participating now are crazy - compared from 2013 to 2019 - and great to see. Anne Marie [Ward] agreed not to compete in the 1000m Ice Kilometer and instead completed the 500m at 0°C so she would be finished and recovered in order to be poolside and could help me complete mine. We were so terrified beforehand.

I can still remember the emotions [at] the 700m mark, the counting of the lengths, and the nervousness poolside as the Russian females had never swam this distance before. The transfer to the sauna was up about 50 steps and they were moving us so fast - the [recovery] teams were fantastic.

But once Anne Marie was poolside, I knew I could push a little harder.

Our post-swim recovery was insane. I remember looking at Melissa O Reilly and Jackie Cobell in the sauna trying to figure out who they were and why I was here...it was my first-time experience.

Then one by one, the men started to come in. That was the craziest journey I had ever witnessed. I immediately jumped into action and started on the recovery. Henri Kaarma's recovery was challenging all at the same time.

it was mind blowing trying to understand the recovery of the men while I was still recovering myself, but it was by far the best group of people and mostly the best learning experience I ever had. I loved the experience, but mostly loved the journey. We trusted ourselves and our teams.

Prior to 2013, there were only a few other ladies around the world such as Lynne Cox and Natalie who had ever completed an Ice Kilometer. It was crazy back then: all slow speeds of around 20+ minutes. I was by far the fastest woman back then at 22 - 23 minutes. Now, the numbers are mind-blowing fast.

The men were Ram Barkai, Kieron Palframan, Ryan Stramrood did an Ice Mile, Henri Kaarma did 2,150 meters, and Cristian Vergara and Aleksandr Brylin did 1,000 meters. That was it
."

Six years ago in 2013 when ice swimmers were fewer and speeds were slower.

The growth in the ice swimming community is evidenced with the large number of swimmers entered in this week's Ice Kilometer race in Murmansk:

The U.S. is now virtually alone in allowing Boeing 737 MAX jets to fly      Cache   Translate Page

With Tuesday's decision by the European Aviation Safety Agency to ban Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from the airspace of the 32 countries it oversees, the U.S. is one of the few remaining countries still allowing the aircraft to fly. Two Boeing 737 MAX 8s have crashed in the last six months, including Sunday's Ethiopian Airlines tragedy.

The Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing are standing behind the new jet. "Thus far, our review shows no systemic performance issues and provides no basis to order grounding the aircraft," FAA Administrator Daniel Elwell said in a statement Tuesday evening, and no other civil aviation authority has "provided data to us that would warrant action."

Turkish Airlines, Icelandair, South Korea's Eastar Jet, and Oman Air were among the latest airlines to ground their Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and the United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia have also barred the jet from taking off or landing in their countries. U.S. airlines American and Southwest are continuing to fly their 737 MAX 8s, and a vice president for American said the world's biggest carrier has "full confidence in the aircraft." But several U.S. lawmakers, Consumer Reports, former Transportation Secretary Roy LaHood, and others disagree, arguing it would be safer to ground the plans pending further study.
