Stephen Payne To Star In The New Dark Comedy THE BIGOT Cache Translate Page

The Bigot, a timely new play and dark comedy by Gabi & Eva Mor that mixes social commentary, family drama and a lot of humor will have a full Off-Broadway run at the Theatre at St. Clement's (423 West 46thStreet) April 26 through June 9. The official opening night is set for Wednesday, May 1. Michael Susko will direct the production that features acclaimed Broadway actor Stephen Payne (Straight White Men, Of Mice and Men, Superior Donuts andAugust: Osage County) in the lead role. The full cast and creative team will be announced shortly. For more information visit:

The Bigot tells the story of Jim, an equal-opportunity racist and chauvinist, homophobe and anti-Semite. In short, he hates everyone who doesn't look or think like him. His unshakable beliefs, however, get shaken up when his life is turned upside down by a health crisis. Now he may need the very people he has spurned in his life to see something worth saving in him.

Playwrights Gabi & Eva Mor inject humor into inconvenient topics such as bias, racism and dividedness to tackle issues that are being argued about around kitchen tables across the United States.

Stephen Payne's extensive Broadway and film credits include Straight White Men, Of Mice and Men, Superior Donuts and August: Osage County. His other stage credits include Edward Albee's Me Myself & Iat Playwrights Horizons, A Midsummer Night's Dream at Paper Mill Playhouse and the McCarter Theater, John Patrick Stanley's Sailor's Song at The Public Theater, Wings of Desire at the American Repertory Theater, Bus Stop at The Old Globe and Boy Gets Girl at Seattle Rep. His many film and television appearances include Law & Order: SVU.

Director Michael Susko's credits include Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, Casa Manana, Network Theatre Company, New Short Play Festival, Midtown International Theatre Festival, Equity Library Theatre, Amas Musical Theatre, Arizona Broadway, Cider Mill Playhouse, and the New Bedford Festival Theatre.

The Bigot was originally produced in 2017 by Manhattan Repertory Theatre and then toured the country in 2018. "After successful runs in Colorado Springs, Orlando and Sanford Florida, we knew we had to share this important story with audiences in New York City" says Eva Mor.

The play has already received major buzz from newspapers and magazines across the country such as the New York Daily News when it called the play "Archie Banker 2.0" and from Broadway World with the headline "The Bigot set to inspire audiences long after curtain call."

Performances of The Bigot (Starting April 26) are Mondays at 7pm, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with matinees on Wednesdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm (there is an additional matinee on Sat 4/27 at 2pm).

Tickets range from $39 to $89 and can be purchased online at

Is Your Marriage Paradigm Biblical? Cache Translate Page

Marriage paradigms you may have collected and created throughout your life are often at the core of how you operate in a marriage. These paradigms or ideas may be very biblical or very unbiblical. These paradigms may be very healthy or unhealthy, self-serving or giving. Whatever the paradigm, the paradigm has power. In Proverbs 23:7, it says, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he."

I can tell you as a Christian psychologist that this Scripture is so true. The paradigm you collected and created will be how you behave in your marriage. These paradigms create the framework or worldview you have of marriage, your role in marriage, and your expectations of your spouse in marriage. Your paradigm affects how you wake up and greet your spouse (in tolerance or celebration). Your paradigm determines who gets the other a cup of coffee, cooks meals, cleans up, creates wealth, pays bills, initiates sex and creates romance and so on. You can see how powerful paradigms can be in the way you believe and behave in your life.

However, rarely has anyone sat you and your spouse down and said, "Let's go through your paradigm about your marriage." It's my experience that the paradigms are the roots that create the fruits in your marriage. For better or worse, you'll cling to a known paradigm regardless if it's healthy or unhealthy if that paradigm isn't exposed and thought through differently.

In my thirty years of experience, I've learned that if a person's paradigm of marriage is more functional than relational, this in and of itself can create havoc in 10 to 20 years of marriage. The lover-spouse paradigm is a relational paradigm that keeps both of you continuing to aim at staying a lover.

In a strong marriage one, two or three paradigms can exist that you need to expose, challenge or even change to accommodate your marriage. Your marriage has bonded two beings from different paradigms, some of which might not be the best for your marriage.

Our paradigms come from what we have seen or heard over the course of our life up to our wedding day. I think that is why Proverbs 4:23 tells us that above all else to "keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life."

When someone creates a paradigm and questions it, that's one thing. However, when someone creates a paradigm and believes it with their heart, that becomes a whole other matter. As I said earlier, Proverbs 23: 7 states, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he."

The heart is where we believe. The Bible says, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom. 10:9). The heart is actually the most powerful thing we possess. When we believe something in our hearts, then our minds, wills and emotions fully support this belief.

For example, if for whatever reason someone really believes they're worthless, they'll behave in worthless ways regardless of God's love, or their parent's and spouse's love. If someone believes they're worthy of love, they won't accept disrespect or behavior toward them in a less than worthy way. More than anything, what we truly believe in our heart influences our behavior.

Our beliefs are the fuel for every paradigm we currently believe in all areas of our lives. When we believe our paradigm, it grows and grows whether it's true or not. However, when we stop believing a paradigm, it dies, often instantly. I remember clearly as if it was yesterday when Lisa rolled over in bed years after we were married and said, "I really love you."

I can't explain it, but at that moment I really "believed" her. Once I believed her, all the previous paradigms instantly vanished. I can't tell you how many thousands of times I've seen that when someone believes a new paradigm, all the old ideas almost instantly disappear.

It's like when we really believe we are forgiven of all sin (past, present and future) by Christ and we fully let that in our hearts, we are changed. The past is gone, grace is real, and we become different.

I've counseled beautiful, smart women who believed they were unattractive and unlovable. I've also counseled men who were millionaires and billionaires and believed they're unlovable and worthless. Facts are not necessarily when someone believes something in their heart.

Remember from history there was a time around the Christopher Columbus era that everyone thought the world was flat. They not only thought it, they believed it with their heart (paradigm). The church and political leaders of that day would persecute those who thought the world was round. Today we think this is ridiculous.

However, as a Christian psychologist, I can tell you that many a husband and wife fully think and believe in their paradigm of marriage or the role of the husband or wife with all their heart—regardless of facts or futility. {eoa}

Well, I can't let this go unchallenged. Mr. Moore does raise some interesting points, and I agree about half of the time with him, but there are many many contradictions in his routine. Take a look at , or even better, . I can't say I agree with EVERYTHING they say, but they raise some things you'll never hear Mr. Moore admit about himself: After the conclusion of the "Wonderful World" montage -- Right after the footage of the airplanes hitting the Twin Towers, Bowling shows a B-52 memorial at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Moore intones: "The plaque underneath it proudly proclaims that this plane killed Vietnamese people on Christmas Eve 1972." The point is only half way obvious to most viewers, although even those not catching the direct connection - the understanding is inserted : that the United States government and Al-Qaeda both perpetrate murder by airplane. This phrasing intentionally insinuates that the plaque praises the bombing of civilians. In fact, the plaque on the B-52 at the AFA is not quite as Moore describes it. The plaque says : "B-52D Stratofortress. 'Diamond Lil.' Dedicated to the men and women of the Strategic Air Command who flew and maintained the B-52D throughout its 26-year history in the command. Aircraft 55-083, with over 15,000 flying hours, is one of two B-52Ds credited with a confirmed MIG kill during the Vietnam Conflict Flying out of U-Tapao Royal Thai Naval Airfield in southern Thailand, the crew of 'Diamond Lil' shot down a MIG northeast of Hanoi during 'Linebacker II' action on Christmas Eve, 1972." Hardly sounds like a proud proclamation of Vietnamese killing. But Moore brushes it off. According to Ebert, Moore's response to this criticism was as follows: "I was making a point about the carpet bombing of Vietnam during the 1972 Christmas offensive. I did not say exactly what the plaque said but was paraphrasing." (1) However - offering no evidence to support the claim that this historical account was in any way bragging about civilian death - Moore boldly deceives the audience here. Since he supports his opinion of the plaques supposed inferences with nothing, we must rely on grammar - none of which has a hint of anything that denotes pride in death. He of course doesn't show the plaque so he can get away with the deception, and didn't expecting anyone to check him on this fact, and thus gets away with it. The truth behind the plaque is a much different story, as told by David Hardy of "The particular feat was accomplished by Airman First Class Albert E. Moore, who brought down a MiG-21 which was closing to attack 'Diamond Lil.' The reason its MiG kill was so celebrated was that a B-52 which got within range of a fighter almost always lost the fight. B-52s were built on the assumption that enemy fighters would be kept at bay by their own fighter escort, and so they had minimal defensive guns. A WWII B-17 carried, oh, 10 to 14 (depending on model) .50 machineguns facing in every possible direction; they flew in dense formations so that there were hundreds or thousands of guns covering each direction. Facing WWII fighters, the B-17s still took severe losses. A B-52 had only one defensive gun position, in its tail, which could cover no direction save rearwards: early models had four .50s in it, later ones a 20 mm. It had, in short, a lot less defensive capability, yet was up against modern jet fighters with hundreds of knots speed advantage, air-to-air missiles that could kill from miles off, and heavier guns for close-in. If an enemy fighter closed on a B-52, odds of survival were low. Diamond Lil was thus commemorated for its rare feat of downing the attacking enemy fighter, instead of being downed by it. A feat which Moore apparently finds appalling." Moore thus confirms the absurdity of the blame-America-first position popular among the Hollywood Left, by showing that such views require the ignoring of obvious facts — such as the difference between financial aid to a dictatorship and humanitarian aid to refugees, or between fighting enemy pilots and perpetrating war crimes against civilians. Mike Wilson of MSNBC wrote I don't know if you caught it, but Mike Moore was confronted about our film while he was on MSNBCs Buchanan and Press a few weeks ago to promote BFC on DVD. When the hosts pressed him to give me an interview, he said, "I don't appear in other people's films, I make my own documentaries." Note that Moore appeared in the film Lucky Numbers opposite John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow. And if he meant that he doesn't give interviews for documentaries, he's lying there as well. Also: As we first documented, when "Bowling for Columbine" was released in theaters, it featured a 1988 Bush-Quayle ad called "Revolving Doors", which criticized a prison furlough program in operation when Michael Dukakis was governor of Massachusetts. Though Horton was furloughed under the program in question, the ad did not explicitly mention him, unlike the more famous ad aired by the National Security Political Action Committee, which had close ties to Bush media advisor Roger Ailes. But because this part of "Bowling" attempted to show how portrayals of black men are used to promote fear in the public, Moore apparently inserted the caption "Willie Horton released. Then kills again." into the ad, using a text style nearly identical to the ad's original captions. A casual viewer would assume that the text was part of the original ad. The fictitious caption more directly connecting Bush to Horton is used to back up Moore's statement, which runs over the sequence, that "whether you're a psychotic killer or running for president of the United States, the one thing you can always count on is white America's fear of the black man." However, according to the archived video of the ad linked above, media reports and interviews with a high-level Dukakis official and political experts, the caption did not appear in the original ad. Moreover, it was incorrect -- Horton raped a woman while on furlough, but he did not commit murder. In a tacit acknowledgment that the caption was both phony and factually incorrect, Moore has altered the text in the DVD version. The caption now reads "Willie Horton released. Then rapes a woman." Clearly, every fact in the film was not true, and critics who pointed the alteration of the Horton ad (among other things) were not committing libel. Moreover, Moore's correction doesn't make the insertion of text that wasn't in the original ad any more excusable.
