Peanut!

The baby Tamandua born December 20, 2018 at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden now has a name! Although the pup’s sex is yet-to-be-determined, the Zoo announced that it would be called “Mani”.

“We wanted to give the pup a Spanish name, since Tamanduas are primarily from Spanish speaking countries, and both of its parents have Spanish names. We chose the name Mani, which means “peanut,” because we were able to watch Mani grow from the size of a peanut via weekly ultrasounds on mom, Isla,” said Cincinnati Zoo Interpretive Animal Keeper Colleen Lawrence. “We fell in love with the pup when it was only a blip on a screen.”

Five-year-old Isla, a first-time mom, has taken care of the pup exactly the way she should, so it is healthy and growing fast. Care team members think the baby is a boy, but it’s difficult to be 100% certain of the sex of Tamanduas when they’re this young.

Keepers report that little Mani can be seen through the windows of the Zoo’s Animal Ambassador Center (AAC), clinging to Isla.

Also called the “lesser anteater”, the Tamandua uses its long snout to sniff out ant, termite and bee colonies. Long claws enable it to dig into nests, and a long sticky tongue licks up the insects. A single Tamandua can eat up to 9,000 ants in a single day!

Post-Menopause Vaginal Health Issues & Treatment       Cache   Translate Page
Host: Prathima Setty, MD
Issues of vaginal health are commonly seen in post-menopausal women, breast cancer survivors and women who have had a hysterectomy. According to the US Census Bureau there are nearly 46M women between the ages of 50 and 80, and over 2.8M breast cancer survivors. Existing treatments for post-menopause vaginal health can be time intensive or messy, or contraindicated for health reasons. They also can have numerous side-effects and offer only marginal improvement -- according to a doctor associated with the study. Host Dr. Prathima Setty welcomes Dr. Mickey Karram, Director of Fellowship Program on Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. Dr. Karram will share preliminary findings from a trail evaluating laser treatment on post-menopausal women and breast cancer survivors experiencing vaginal health issues. Our History: Book a Trove of City’s African-American History
Jeff Suess, Cincinnati Enquirer
Published 1:03 p.m. ET Feb. 6, 2019

Wendell P. Dabney, a prominent figure in the city, published "Cincinnati's Colored Citizens" in 1926.

The 1920s were a time of cultural awakening for African-Americans.

Negro History Week, the precursor to Black History Month, was established by Carter G. Woodson of Chicago in 1926. The Harlem Renaissance and the Jazz Age were opening up people’s eyes,  ears and minds.

While in Cincinnati, Wendell P. Dabney felt it was time to “set forth the history and achievements” of the city’s African-Americans. The editor and publisher of the weekly newspaper, the Union, compiled and published the book, “Cincinnati’s Colored Citizens,” in 1926.

The book chronicles the city’s history from the African-American perspective and profiles prominent black citizens of the day. For nearly a century, the book was the only history exclusively about Cincinnati’s black community.

“Such information, I felt, would go far to eradicate much of the prejudice against us, that owes its origin to the ignorance or superficial knowledge of our white citizens,” Dabney wrote in the book’s preface.

Dabney was a journalist rather than a historian, so it is not a scholarly work with exhaustive sources and footnotes. Rather, Dabney sought “to show the soul as well as the body of a people, who are so little known, so little understood and, for so many years, so much oppressed because of such misunderstanding.”

While Dabney included himself quite a bit in the book, he was active in many different aspects of the community, so he could not be omitted.

Dabney was born in 1865 in Richmond, Virginia, the son of former slaves. His father worked as a caterer, which helped elevate their standard of living. Dabney briefly attended Oberlin College, one of 15 African-American students, and was a talented guitar player.

In Cincinnati, he ran a music studio, dabbled in politics and was the first president of the local chapter of the NAACP. He was the first African-American to serve as the city’s paymaster, and published the Union from 1907 until his death in 1952.

Dabney’s connections to the black community made him the ideal person to record their history that otherwise would have been lost.

In the preface, he mentioned how little of black history had been recorded, just traditions and recollections of the people, a few church files and “scattered remnants of records” left by white men who fought against slavery, including abolitionist Levi Coffin.

“Cincinnati’s Colored Citizens” includes passages from Woodson’s “The Journal of Negro History,” Coffin’s memoirs and Lafcadio Hearn’s descriptions of Bucktown, the poverty-stricken neighborhood near Broadway and Sixth streets.

As an example of how Dabney preserved black history, he gave the old Dumas House more attention than is found in other Cincinnati history books.

The Dumas House was a rarity, a public hotel for African-Americans owned by African-Americans, going back to the 1850s. It was located on McAllister Street, a block-long road east of Broadway  between Fourth and Fifth streets, now an alleyway next to Western & Southern Financial Group.

By Dabney’s account, in the decades before and after the Civil War, McAllister Street was the heart of the black community and the Dumas House was the epicenter. White slave owners visiting the city housed their slaves at the hotel, which secretly served as a station on the Underground Railroad.

The Dumas remained part of the black community as a gymnasium, saloon, flats, church, laundry and, finally, the offices of the Union after Dabney’s mother inherited the building. The Dumas was sold to Western & Southern and demolished a few years after the book was published.

Ted Bundy’s murderous charm still polarizes, 40 years later      Cache   Translate Page
CINCINNATI – She kept her eyes on the dapper, wavy-haired man who smiled, winked and exuded self-confidence as the courtroom proceedings moved along.

“I don’t know what it is he has, but he’s fascinating,” the teenage spectator explained to me at the time. “He’s impressive. He just has a kind of magnetism.”

It was that beguiling magnetism that investigators said helped make the object of her interest – Ted Bundy – one of the nation’s most prolific serial killers, with at least 30 women and girls’ deaths linked to him across multiple states in the late 1970s.

I reported the teenager’s comments for The Associated Press’ coverage of Bundy’s 1979 murder trial in Miami, the first of two murder trials he would have in Florida. She was just one example of a regular courtroom backdrop of spellbound female spectators who were “attractive, young and single,” as I wrote at the time, just like the women Bundy was on trial for bludgeoning and sexually assaulting.

“I haven’t lost any sleep about the verdict,” a relaxed, self-assured Bundy told me in a jail-cell interview a few days after the jury swiftly convicted him of murdering two Florida State University sorority sisters and assaulting three other young women in Tallahassee.

Nearly 40 years after that trial, and 30 years after his death in Florida’s electric chair, Bundy’s deadly charm continues to captivate and perplex.

Some reactions to a new Netflix documentary series, “Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes,” prompted a Twitter appeal to viewers asking them to chill out about his “alleged hotness,” adding there are many other attractive men featured on the streaming service who aren’t convicted serial killers. Nearly simultaneously, a movie starring heartthrob Zac Efron as Bundy recently made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival with some criticisms that the film, shot last year in the Cincinnati area, glamorizes the killer. A Vanity Fair reviewer wrote that at times, “the movie feels almost sympathetic to Bundy.”

Filmmaker Joe Berlinger, who is the director for both projects, acknowledged in a Salt Lake Tribune interview he had tackled “a very polarizing subject” with Bundy, but insisted there’s no glorification. His movie hasn’t yet been scheduled for wider release. Efron, by the way, isn’t the first hunky actor to play Bundy – Mark Harmon starred in the 1986 TV miniseries “The Deliberate Stranger.”

The July 1979 trial I helped cover was for Bundy’s rampage on Jan. 15, 1978, in Tallahassee, Florida. Armed with an oak limb, Bundy left two Chi Omega sorority sisters dead and three other women injured. Less than a month later, on Feb. 9, he abducted, sexually assaulted and killed a 12-year-old girl in Lake City, Florida. She was Bundy’s final victim in a gruesome series of attacks that claimed the lives of dozens of women in states from Washington to Florida.

During the trial, I interviewed other young women in Miami who talked about Bundy’s handsome looks and expressive eyes, and also the chilling testimony about his crimes. A University of Washington psychiatry professor talked in a telephone interview about him giving women “Dracula shivers.”

Jurors deliberated less than seven hours on July 24, 1979, before convicting Bundy, then 32, of the Chi Omega murders. A series of attorneys filed appeal after appeal for Bundy. One blamed the “Bundy mystique” for making it impossible for him to get a fair trial. Several argued he was insane.

Al Carlisle, a Utah State Prison psychologist who had interviewed Bundy extensively, understood the difficulty people had believing that the Bundy they saw could be such a calculating, remorseless killer. The courts ruled Bundy was competent.

He knew what he was doing, Carlisle explained to me years ago. Charm was one of his weapons.

“He believes he’s smarter than everybody else and that he’s going to play the pieces right, and win the chess game,” Carlisle said.

It ended Jan. 24, 1989, in Florida’s electric chair after he had ended his denials with sometimes-emotional confessions in his final days.

Hundreds of people, women and men, were thronged outside the prison. But this time, most were there to cheer his death.

___

Sewell, now the AP’s Cincinnati correspondent, wrote often in Florida about Bundy in the decade from the Chi Omega murders to the execution.

REVIEW: CSO’s Bruckner under Runnicles a transcendent journey      Cache   Translate Page
Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 began with a soft undercurrent in the low strings. It was an intimate start to what would become a monumental, 80-minute musical journey. In his debut with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, conductor Donald Runnicles’ masterful leadership of Bruckner’s Eighth gripped the listener from beginning to end. The result was an experience that could only be described as transcendent. Like the Austrian composer’s other symphonies, Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 in C Minor…

2/10 Through the 1960’s: Bagby Joins; No Mo' Spitball; Cocky Klinger; HBD Larry, Digger, Country Jake, Cot, Bill & Jim      Cache   Translate Page
  • 1857 - UT Jim Keenan was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He spent 10 years in the show with an 1882 stop with the Alleghenys, hitting .219 as a bench catcher and outfielder (he played every position but 2B during his career). Jim was one of the better catchers of the 1880s, spent mostly with the Cincinnati Red Stockings. He caught barehanded (ouch!) and is also noted as being one of the few players of that rowdy era to kick the booze habit during his playing days. Keenan caught the first Pittsburgh Alleghenys game (by extension, the first game in Pirates franchise history), a 10-9 win over his future mates, the Red Stockings, played on May 2nd, 1882 at Cincinnati's Bank Street Grounds.
  • 1893 - RHP Bill Evans was born in Reidsville, NC. He spent his entire three-year MLB stint with the Bucs (1916-17, 1919) as a fringe hurler, going 2-13 with a 3.85 ERA. Evans went into the military and missed all of the 1918 campaign. He worked seven games for Pittsburgh in 1919, then spent the next decade toiling in the minors.
Cotton Tierney 1922 American Caramel
  • 1894 - 2B James “Cotton” (because of his light blond hair) Tierney was born in Kansas City, KS. He started his pro career in Pittsburgh (1920-23), mainly as a second baseman but also seeing time in the outfield and at the hot corner. He hit .315 for Pittsburgh and was the main piece in the 1923 trade for P Lee Meadows. Cotton was remembered when in 2005, his great-great-nephew Jeff Euston created the popular website Cot's Baseball Contracts, named after his MLB uncle.
  • 1900 - SS “Country Jake” Stephens was born in Pleasantville (or nearby York), Pennsylvania. Jake played in the Negro leagues for 17 years, with stops with the Homestead Grays (1929-31) and Pittsburgh Crawfords (1932). The SS wasn’t much of a batsman - the curve befuddled him - but he was a fast and acrobatic fielder with a rifle arm. As loaded with bats as the legendary local clubs were, carrying a glove at shortstop was a no-brainer. His leather earned him spots in Pittsburgh and York sports halls of fame.
  • 1920 - The spitball, shineball, and emeryball were outlawed by the AL/NL Joint Rules Committee. Seventeen pitchers, including off-and-on Pirate Burleigh Grimes, were grandfathered so they could continue to toss a wet one. Grimes, who finished his career in 1934 with Pittsburgh, was the last man to legally throw a spitter.
  • 1932 - RHP Billy “Digger” O’Dell was born in Whitmire, South Carolina. He closed out his 13-year career (twice an All-Star) with the Pirates in 1966-67, going 8-8-4/4.44. Digger retired and left baseball, coaching Legion ball and earning a spot in the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. He got his nickname from the radio/TV show “The Life of Riley” that featured a character named Digby “Digger” O’Dell - an undertaker.
Bob Klinger 1941 Double Play
  • 1939 - RHP Bob Klinger exhibited his flipper to Pittsburgh Press beat writer Les Biederman and told him that “You are now looking at the arm that belongs to the fellow who is going to win 20 games...this year.” Klinger had gone 12-5/2.99 in 1938 with a gimpy arm, then underwent off season treatment for neuritis. He did get 33 starts, but finished 14-17/4.36 and 0-1 as a prognosticator. Apparently his arm remained chronically cranky. The Pirates switched him to spot starter/reliever in 1940, and he didn’t rejoin the rotation full-time again until 1943. He was in the Navy from 1944-45, then went to the Boston Red Sox at age 38 and was their closer from 1946-47 as part of the Bosox 1946 World Series club.
  • 1947 - RHP Jim Bagby Jr. was purchased from the Boston Red Sox for a little more than the $10,000 waiver fee. Bagby had been a two-time All-Star for Cleveland in 1942-43, but the 30-year-old was on his last legs in Pittsburgh, going 5-4/4.67 in ‘47 in 38 games (six starts), which proved to be his final season after 10 years in MLB. His father blazed a similar path, ending his big league days as a Bucco in 1923 after a nine-year tour of duty.
  • 1954 - LHP Larry McWilliams was born in Wichita, Kansas. The sixth overall pick of the 1974 draft by the Braves, he worked for the Pirates from 1982-86. Larry had three strong years as a starter, then faded and was shipped back to his original club, the Braves. His line with the Bucs was 43-44-2 with a 3.86 ERA. Per Wikipedia, he was nicknamed Spaghetti by Tony Pena. "That's what I call him. Take a look at his legs. They look like spaghetti...” his battery mate said.

2015 NL Champion Mets Catcher: Travis d'Arnaud (2013-2019)      Cache   Translate Page
Travis d'Arnaud was born on February 10, 1989 in Lakewood California. The six foot two catcher grew up a Los Angeles Dodgers fan & Mets Hall of Famer Mike Piazza was his favorite player.

His older brother Chase d'Arnaud is a shortstop with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After attending high school at Los Alamitos, Ca. Travis went to Pepperdine University playing baseball for there for one season. He was then signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 37th round, of the 2007 first year player draft.

In 2008 he played in the A ball,New York Penn. League batting .309 in 48 games played. He finished the year at A ball Lakewood batting .297 in 16 games.

In 2009 he remained with the Lakewood Blue Claws, made the All Star team & won the South Atlantic Championship. His batting average fell off to .255, but he began to show some power hitting 13 HRs & 38 doubles in 126 games. He was already considered a solid minor league player with a good future.

Trivia: In one game, his brother Chase attempted to steal three bases, getting nailed all three times. Two of those times he was thrown out by his brother Travis.

In 2010 he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays organization in the Roy Halladay deal.

In 2010 d'Arnaud dealt with back issues while playing in the Florida State League seeing action in just 71 games. He hit .259 with 6 HRs & posted a .996 fielding % behind the plate, while throwing out 30% of would be base stealers. His level of play got him a mid season & post season All Star selections.

In 2011 he began to develop into a top prospect, he batted .311 with a boost of power to his bat, hitting 21 HRs 33 doubles 78 RBIs & a .371 on base % while playing at AA New Hampshire.

Behind the plate he posted a .993 fielding % making just four errors in 424 chances, throwing out 27% of would be base stealers. He once again received dual All Star Honors & was named the Eastern League's MVP. He was named the best defensive catcher in his league & the number two prospect behind Bryce Harper. d'Arnaud went on win his second Championship with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

In 2012 at AAA Las Vegas (now the Mets affiliate) of the Pacific Coast League, he was named to the Futures Game, but soon suffered a knee injury limiting him to 67 games. The injury had him fall to the 23rd Top Prospect from #6.

In that time he batted .333 with 16 HRs 21 doubles 52 RBIs & a .380 on base %. In 55 games at catcher he threw out 30% of would be base stealers & posted a .991 fielding %.

On December 17th 2012, d'Arnaud came to the New York Mets along with Noah Syndergaard, John Buck & Wuilmer Becerra in exchange for Cy Young Winner R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole & Mike Nickeas.

After playing Spring Training with the Mets he was optioned to AAA Las Vegas . He soon suffered a foot fracture & missed three months of action, after a slow recovery.

He played six games with the Gulf Coast Mets (batting .318) then seven games at AA Binghamton (.222) getting to AAA Las Vegas again in August, where he hit .304.

d'Arnaud make his much anticipated debut on August 17th, drawing two walks in an 8-2 loss at San Diego. On August 20th, he got his first career hit (a double), coming off the Braves Luis Ayala in a 5-3 Mets win over the Braves. On August 25th, he hit his first career HR, it came off the Detroit Tigers Rick Porcello in a terrible 11-3 Mets loss.

d'Arnaud saw ample playing time in September splitting time behind the plate with Anthony Recker. In 30 games he had a perfect 1.000 fielding %, making ten assists, making no errors throwing out 5 of 19 base runners attempting to steal (21%).

On September 15th, he singled off the Miami Marlins Ryan Webb to break a scoreless 12th inning tie, bringing in Lucas Duda with the games winning run.

He was batting under .200 but hit safely in five of his last six games to get to .202. Overall he was 20 for 99 in 31 games with one HR, three doubles, five RBIs & a .286 on base%.

The young Mets pitchers have already praised his pitch calling, knowledge of their styles & ability to make low pitches look like strikes. Many baseball folks believe he has the potential to be one of the games best backstops.

At the plate he needed to show more patience, something former Mets hitting coach Dave Hudgens heavily taught.

He started out the 2014 season very slow, batting just .202 with two HRs & six RBIs by May 12th. That night he helped the Mets to a 9-7 subway series win, with a HR. But the next day he suffered a concussion, the third of his career when he was hit in the head with a back swing from Alfonso Soriano. He missed over two weeks of action.

On June 6th he was sent back down to AAA Las Vegas to fine tune his hitting. In the 15 games after his demotion, he hit .436 with 6 home runs. On June 24th he was called back up to the Mets and resumed his role as starting catcher. He started out with a seven game hit streak, hitting safely in 15 of 17 games.

On July 4th, he broke a top of the 9th inning 4-4 tie in Texas, with a two run double off Aaron Poreda. The Mets went on to a 6-5 win. Over the next four games he hit HRs against the Rangers & the Atlanta Braves while driving in four runs.

On July 18th, he led the Mets to a 5-4 win in San Diego, with a top of the 9th inning tie breaking RBI base hit. On July 28th, he had a three hit, three RBI game against the Phillies in a 7-1 Mets win.

In August he hit four HRs & kept his average up near .230, an improvement from the .200 mark.

On September 5th, he hit a three run HR & drove in another run helping the Mets in a 14-5 win over the Reds in Cincinnati. He finished the year at .242 with 13 HRs, 22 doubles & 32 RBIs.

Defensively he played in 105 games at catcher, posting a .990 fielding % although he did make nine errors (3rd most in the NL) & led the league with 12 passed balls.

2015 opened up with excitement & expectations for the Mets to win & make a playoff run. Little did any one know how well they would do, making it to the World Series. d'Arnaud started out the season well, on Opening Day he collected a pair of hits, including a 7th inning RBI triple off the Nats Max Scherzer, which sealed the Mets 3-1 win at Washington.

d'Arnaud would have a tremendous start, in his first eleven games he would bat .319
hitting safely in eight of them & driving in at least one run in all but two. On April 15th he hit his first HR of the season, it came at home against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 6-1 Met win.

On April 19th, he was hit on the hand by a pitch from the Miami Marlins A.J. Ramos & wound up missing two months of action with a fractured hand. He came back to the line up in June but after just eight games, he was back on the DL again until July 31st. In those eight games he hit two HRs & drove in seven runs.

By the time he came back the Mets were in first place & defending their spot on top of the NL East. Rookie Kevin Plaweki had taken over the catcher spot & did a fine job in d'Arnauds absence, although his bat was certainly missed.

In the final two weeks of August he played in 12 games hitting 3 HRs with 12 RBIs. On August 24th he had three hits with a HR & three RBIs in the Mets 16-7 crushing of the Phillies in Philadelphia.

On September 5th, in a game against the Marlins in Florida, d'Arnaud hit a three run HR in the 1st inning. It was followed by a Wilmer Flores solo shot. In the 2nd inning, he added an RBI single to earn himself his biggest RBI day of his season. In the first two weeks of September he drove in another 11 runs adding to the Mets high run production.

Since July 31st, The Mets run production was much higher from the first half of the season. This was mostly due to the fact of the addition of Yoenis Cespedes & Michael Conforto as well. Also Kelly Johnson & Juan Uribe's additions helped too. But some what over looked is Travis d'Arnaud returning to the line up healthy.

He finished up the year playing in 67 games, batting .268 with a .340 on base % (23 walks). He hit 12 HRs with 14 doubles & 41 RBIs. Behind the plate in 64 games he threw out 33% of runners trying to steal. According to baseball reference his range factor per game for 2015 was 2nd in the NL (9.08).

2015 Post Season: NLDS After going hitless in the first two games of NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, d'arnaud had a big Game #3. In the 2nd inning with the Mets down 3-0, d'Arnaud started a rally by driving in the Mets first run of the game.

He then scored on Curtis Grandersons bases loaded three run double. The next inning d'Arnaud added a two run HR scoring Yoenis Cespedes as the Mets went on to a big 13-7 win.

In the final Game #5 clincher at Dodger Stadium, d'Arnaud tied up the game with a sac fly foul ball down the right field line, off Zack Greinke, scoring Daniel Murphy.

2015 NLCS: On October 17th, in Game #1 of the NLCS at Citi Field, d'Arnaud hit a 6th inning solo HR off the Chicago Cubs Jon Letser, putting the Mets up 3-1. They went on to a 4-2 victory. d'Arnaud had two hits that night & another in Game #2.

In Game #4 at Wrigley Field, d'Arnaud followed Lucas Duda's three run HR with a solo shot of his own, putting New York up 4-0 as they rolled on to an 8-3 win going to their first World Series since 2000.

2015 World Series: In Game #1 of the 2015 World Series against the KC Royals, d'Arnaud tied up the game with a 4th inning single off Edinson Volquez. The Mets went on to lose the game 5-4 in extra innings. In Game #3 he added a double & two hits in the Mets 9-3 win behind Noah Syndergaard's pitching.

Overall in the post season he played in all 14 games, going 10-55 (.182) with 3 HRs 7 RBIs & one double. He struck out 17 times & did not walk.

In 2016 d'Arnaud was the Mets Opening Day catcher & scheduled to be their main guy behind the play. It did not turn out that way & was a very disappointing year for him.

At the end of April the injuries began & he would miss two months returning in late June.  That gave Rene Rivera the chance & he beat out Kevin Plawecki as the main backstop. d'Arnaud would return to the Mets after stints in St. Lucie & AAA Vegas. He return to Citi Field & would finally hit above .200 by the end of June.

On June 24th he had a three RBI day in an 8-6 win over the Atlanta Braves. On July 4th he hit his first HR & another two days later leading the Mets to wins both days. When he returned he gave up his uniform #7 back to Jose Reyes & took on #18 in honor of retired NLF Quarterback Peyton Manning.

In August he hit just two HRs with four RBIs and played sparingly in September.

He finished the year playing in 75 games, with 4 HRs 7 doubles 15 RBIs & a .307 on base %. Behind the plate he threw out 23% of would be base stealers & posted a .998% fielding %.

In the off season the Mets did not peruse a catcher, in January they agreed to giving d'Arnaud a one year deal worth $1.8 million.

He arguably may have had his best year at the plate in 2017, batting .244 with career highs in HRs (16) & RBIs (57). He also 19 doubles with 85 hits but posted a poor .293 on base %.

On April 11th, he hit his first HR of the year while collecting three hits. Two games later, he had a four hit day with another HR & four RBIs. On April 29th he had his biggest game of the year, hitting two HRs off the Nats Matt Scherzer, while driving in five runs in a 7-5 Mets win, snapping a five game losing streak.

In mid May he made yet another trip to the DL, missing three weeks of action. In June hit four HRs then took five more weeks until he hit another.

He had a big September with 19 hits 6 HRs & 19 RBIs. He started out the month hitting safely in 10 of 13 games, rassining his average ten points.

On September 22nd, he had another two HR game & his third game of the year with at least four RBIs. Three days later, he hit a two run HR leading the Mets in a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Two games later he had a three RBI day in a 7-1 Mets win over the Phillies.

In 2018 he started out as the Opening Day catcher, but tore his UCL in his right elbow, missing the rest of the entire season. He played in just four games at the big league level going 3-15 with a HR & 3 RBIs.

The Mets realizing that they could not rely on d'Arnaud, quickly went after catchers in the off season, landing veteran Wilson Ramos as their main backstop. They gave him a one year deal at the end of the season, so he is in their plans as a back up & possibly a utility man in other positions.

In his six year career in 397 games he is batting .245 with 327 hits 47 HRs 65 doubles & 162 RBIs. He has walked 110 times & struck out 248 times with a .306 on base %.

Behind the plate he has thrown out 21% of would be base stealers, with a .994 fielding % in 369 games.

Family: His brother is infielder Chase d'Arnaud. He has played seven years in the major leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2011-2014) Philadelphia Phillies (2015) Atlanta Braves (2016) Boston Red Sox & San Diego Padres (2017) San Francisco Giants (2018).

GOP Recruitment Troubles Could Affect Senate Races      Cache   Translate Page
Copyright 2018 NPR. To see more, visit ARI SHAPIRO, HOST: Democrats are having no problem recruiting candidates to run for office. Anger at President Trump is high among the base, and Trump has historically low approval ratings for a first-year president. On the flip side, Republicans are struggling to recruit top candidates to take on incumbent Democrats. And this is happening even in states that Trump carried. Here's NPR's Don Gonyea. DON GONYEA, BYLINE: Ohio is one of those Trump states with a big Senate race this year. The president captured it easily in 2016. And this week, he was back in Cincinnati, promoting the new tax cuts. (SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING) PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Oh, I love the state of Ohio. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) TRUMP: What great memories. GONYEA: The president also gave a shout-out to Congressman Jim Renacci, who's running for Senate. (SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING) TRUMP: Jim, get in there, and fight. Get in there, and fight. We need you. We need you.

59th Annual Kentucky Shakespeare Festival Comes to Central Park      Cache   Translate Page

Kentucky Shakespeare kicks off its 59th annual free Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park with a comedy, a history, and a tragedy. The season begins with their professional productions of As You Like It May 29th, then Henry IV, Part II June 13th, followed by King Lear on June 27th. July 9th-21st all three performances will be presented in repertory. The season will be dedicated to the late Bekki Jo Schneider, former Producer of Kentucky Shakespeare and founder Doug Ramey's immediate successor. Last year we lost our dear friend Bekki Jo. She was instrumental in helping make the company what it is today, not only during her tenure here as an actor and leader but for years after as a mentor to me and to so many others in our community. We dedicate this season to her as we celebrate her life and legacy, said Matt Wallace, Producing Artistic Director.

Though it's winter now, we've been busy planning an exciting 59th season of Kentucky Shakespeare Festival! This season features a company of 20 performers and an array of 54 community pre-shows, with 7 productions and 58 performances over our 10-week summer season, says Wallace. Thanks to an Imagine 2020 Project Grant, made possible by Louisville Metro Government in partnership with the Fund for the Arts, we will also present the Kids' Globe this summer! Before performances youth can visit our Kids' Globe tent to participate in free interactive, hand-on arts activities all summer long. We'll again have a variety of 28 food trucks from the Louisville Food Truck Association rotating nightly, along with our Brown-Forman Bar, Will's Tavern and Will's Gift Shop. If you haven't been lately, you haven't been!

The season kicks off with As You Like It, Shakespeare's beloved, gender-swapping romantic comedy set in the Forest of Arden, where lives can be transformed when you least expect it. Matt Wallace directs, setting the production in 19th century Kentucky. It will feature live music with the cast performing original songs composed by Louisville singer/songwriter Aaron Bibelhauser of the bluegrass band Relic. The production stars Hallie Dizdarevic as Rosalind with Jon Becraft as Orlando, Gregory Maupin as Touchstone, Abigail Bailey Maupin as Jacques, Crystian Wiltshire as Silvius, Jon Patrick O'Brien as Oliver, and making their Kentucky Shakespeare debut, recent Actors Theatre performers Amber Avant as Celia and Angelica Santiago as Phebe.

Henry IV, Part II explores the precarious friendship of Prince Hal and Falstaff. The play is the third installment in the Game of Kings series, which wraps up with Henry V in 2020, the Festival's 60th season. The production is directed by Associate Artistic Director Amy Attaway and will again feature original music from Wax Fang's Scott Carney. Tom Luce returns as the title king, J. Barrett Cooper returns as Falstaff and Zachary Burrell as Prince Hal, with cast members including Will DeVary as Prince John, Amber Avant as Lady Percy, Kyle Ware as Ensign Pistol, and Kentucky Shakespeare veteran Monte Priddy as Shallow. This play is a little detour from the wartime saga, and it easily stands on its own. It's irreverent, funny, and deeply human I can't wait to show our audiences this different side of everyone's favorite fat knight, said director Amy Attaway.

Rounding out the main stage productions is one of Shakespeare's most powerful tragedies, King Lear, last performed by Kentucky Shakespeare 32 years ago. Wallace directs the production, set in ancient Britain, that follows a once-great ruler's descent into madness. Kentucky Shakespeare veteran Jon Huffman takes on the title role, with cast members including Jennifer Pennington as Gloucester, Dathan Hooper as Kent,

Braden McCampbell as Edmund, and Neill Robertson as Edgar.

The Louisville Improvisors return with Late Night Shakes on select Saturdays bringing late night improvised Shakespeare shows, June 1st, 15th, 29th and August 3rd.
Kentucky Shakespeare's Globe Players Professional Training Program for high school students will present the comedy Twelfth Night, directed by Kentucky Shakespeare's Director of Education Kyle Ware, running July 24th 27th.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company returns to the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival stage July 28th and 30th to present the touring production of Romeo and Juliet directed by Caitlin McWethy.

Louisville Ballet will close out the season for the fourth year in a row, with another yet-to-be-titled world premiere of Shakespeare in Dance. Created by Roger Creel and Scott Moore, the production features performers from the Louisville Ballet and original music and choreography by Creel and Moore.
