Comment on Trump: Mueller “a Much Different Man Than People Think” by Gary Wilmott      Cache   Translate Page
I concur with Bob68. From what I have discerned, Bob Mueller is a shady character and was put in charge of this witch hunt not only to dispatch Trump but perhaps more importantly to protect the Deep State and cover-up their crimes. It's as simple as that.

DEEP STATE

Mueller’s Intricate Cover Up of Deep State Spying on Trump

RUSH: Michael Cohen has begged a federal judge for mercy after his guilty plea. I should tell you, Paul Sperry, who writes for the New York Post and Real Clear Politics, took a look. He did a deep dive into Cohen’s plea that has been publicized by Mueller. We’ll link to it at RushLimbaugh.com. I’d have to read the whole thing to you, basically get in the weeds, but his conclusion is that this plea deal actually exonerates Trump, but that that’s not the way Mueller is gonna end up reporting this.

Now, Rudy Giuliani is out joining the criticism of Mueller because it’s apparent from Jerome Corsi and Manafort that what Mueller is doing, which we discussed last week, is trying to force people to say what Mueller wants them to say. He’s trying to force people to lie in order to make the case that Mueller wants to make. And Giuliani is now calling Mueller out on this as well. So Cohen apparently has done this. Cohen has apparently told Mueller what he wants to hear about some things, particularly his Trump Tower meeting.

And again, folks, I can’t stress enough here, this is so crucial and so important to illustrate how actually literally bogus all of this is. The original Russian collusion story that the media and the deep state reported for now two years is that the Russians and Trump got together and conspired — they really want to use conspiracy instead of collusion, but they don’t dare. And they haven’t needed to. Collusion people are interpreting it to meet conspiracy anyway. See, conspiracy is a crime. Collusion isn’t. And that’s why they have to be very careful in not using the word “conspiracy” ’cause there isn’t any crime here.

They have literally created the impression in nearly half this country’s population that the Russians tampered with votes and that Trump was aware of it and agreed to let them do it in order to benefit from it, i.e., being elected president, Hillary losing. This is what they made the American people think the Mueller investigation is.

I can’t tell you the number of left-wing Democrats and American leftists, the Democrat voting base who literally to this day still think that’s what all this is and that Mueller has the smoking gun, the silver bullet or what have you. And Mueller doesn’t have anything of the sort because nothing of the sort happened. So now Mueller has got these witnesses and he’s asking them to say various things that may not have happened. Manafort, Jerome Corsi, they’re alleging that this is what Mueller is doing.

And, by the way, the reason I tend to believe it — I don’t know either Manafort or Corsi — but the reason I believe it is because the same people on Mueller’s team did this exact thing during the Ted Stevens trial, the senator from Alaska, and during the Enron trial. They did the exact same thing.

And, in fact, get this! James Comey has been subpoenaed to testify behind closed doors to a House committee. Comey sued! And he got some DOJ lawyers to represent him, trying to shut this down. Now, the DOJ has nothing to say to the Congress. The Congress can do open session or closed session, and there’s nothing, because of separation of powers, that anybody can say about it.

And yet Comey had his lawyers sue on the basis that he didn’t want closed session. He wanted open because he’s afraid, he says, that they’re gonna leak what he says to make him look bad. Imagine that! James Comey, who leaks like a sieve to make everybody else look bad, is afraid he’s gonna get the same treatment, so he wanted an open hearing. And he got some lawyers to go out and sue on that basis.

Now, a bombshell happened that has not hit the Drive-By Media, and it’s from John Solomon who, on Friday, reported that there were at least six different deep state operatives who attempted to infiltrate and set up the Trump campaign during the 2016 election. Now, we know of two or three. We know of Joseph Mifsud, the Maltese professor and his involvement with George Papadopoulos. And we know of Stefan Halper. And we know of the Australian ambassador, John Howard.

To arrest them and bring them to trial that the criminal's profile helps to put them in prison. So too has President Trump helped to expose our country's Washington DC establishment members. Who is obviously using the same profile to get away with the same crime? All we need to do now is find an honest Sheriff to arrest them, and an honest Lawyer to prosecute them. An honest Judge to Judge them, and honest 12 men Court Jury to convince them. Can we find such people now that we know better?

Camille Paglia gives an interview to Spectator USA via email questions and answers. Here are some of her thoughts that stood out to me.
Kamala Harris has hurt her chances for 2020 by blowing a huge opportunity to play a moderating, statesmanlike role and has already imprinted an image of herself as a ruthless inquisitor that will make it hard for her to pull voters across party lines.

Screechy Elizabeth Warren has never had a snowball’s chance in hell to appeal beyond upper-middle-class professionals of her glossy stripe. Kirsten Gillibrand is a wobbly mediocrity. Cory Booker has all the gravitas of a cork. Andrew Cuomo is a yapping puppy with a long, muddy bullyboy tail. Both Bernie Sanders (for whom I voted in the 2016 primaries) and Joe Biden (who would have won the election had Obama not cut him off at the knees) are way too old and creaky.

To win in the nation’s broad midsection, the Democratic nominee will need to project steadiness, substance, and warmth. I’ve been looking at Congresswoman Cheri Bustos of Illinois and Governor Steve Bullock of Montana. As for Hillary, she’s pretty much damaged goods, but her perpetual, sniping, pity-me tour shows no signs of abating. She still has a rabidly loyal following, but it’s hard to imagine her winning the nomination again, with her iron grip on the Democratic National Committee now gone. Still, it’s in her best interest to keep the speculation fires burning. Given how thoroughly she has already sabotaged the rising candidates by hogging the media spotlight, I suspect she wants Trump to win again. I don’t see our stumbling, hacking, shop-worn Evita yielding the spotlight willingly to any younger gal.

...Most Democrats have wildly underestimated Trump from the get-go. I was certainly surprised at how easily he mowed down 17 other candidates in the GOP primaries. He represents widespread popular dissatisfaction with politics as usual. Both major US parties are in turmoil and metamorphosis, as their various factions war and realign. The mainstream media’s nonstop assault on Trump has certainly backfired by cementing his outsider status. He is basically a pragmatic deal-maker, indifferent to ideology. As with Bolsonaro in Brazil, Trump rose because of decades of failure by the political establishment to address urgent systemic problems, including corruption at high levels. Democrats must hammer out their own image and agenda and stop self-destructively insulting half the electorate by treating Trump like Satan.

The deep state is no myth but a sodden, intertwined mass of bloated, self-replicating bureaucracy that constitutes the real power in Washington and that stubbornly outlasts every administration.

...I have been trying for decades to get my fellow Democrats to realize how unchecked bureaucracy, in government or academe, is inherently authoritarian and illiberal. A persistent characteristic of civilizations in decline throughout history has been their self-strangling by slow, swollen, and stupid bureaucracies.

...In the modern world, so wondrously but perilously interconnected, a principle of periodic reduction of bureaucracy should be built into every social organism. Freedom cannot survive otherwise.

As I repeatedly argue in Provocations, comparative religion is the true multiculturalism and should be installed as the core curriculum in every undergraduate program. From my perspective as an atheist as well as a career college teacher, secular humanism has been a disastrous failure. Too many young people raised in affluent liberal homes are arriving at elite colleges and universities with skittish, unformed personalities and shockingly narrow views of human existence, confined to inflammatory and divisive identity politics.

Interest in Hinduism and Buddhism was everywhere in the 1960s counterculture, but it gradually dissipated partly because those most drawn to ‘cosmic consciousness’ either disabled themselves by excess drug use or shunned the academic ladder of graduate school. I contend that every educated person should be conversant with the sacred texts, rituals, and symbol systems of the great world religions — Hinduism, Buddhism, Judeo-Christianity, and Islam — and that true global understanding is impossible without such knowledge.

...Humor has been assassinated. An off word at work or school will get you booted to the gallows. This is the graveyard of liberalism, whose once noble ideals have turned spectral and vampiric.

After CIA briefing, senators lay blame on Saudi crown prince      Cache   Translate Page
WASHINGTON – Senators leaving a briefing with CIA Director Gina Haspel on Tuesday said they are even more convinced that Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman was involved in the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said he believes if the crown prince were put on trial, a jury would find him guilty in “about 30 minutes.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who demanded the briefing with Haspel, said there is “zero chance” the crown prince wasn’t involved in Khashoggi’s death.

“There’s not a smoking gun. There’s a smoking saw,” Graham said, referring to reports from the Turkish government that said Saudi agents used a bone saw to dismember Khashoggi after he was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Graham said “you have to be willfully blind” not to conclude that this was orchestrated and organized by people under the crown prince’s command.

But President Donald Trump has equivocated over who is to blame for the killing, frustrating senators who are now looking for ways to punish the longtime Middle East ally. Senators overwhelmingly voted last week to move forward on a resolution curtailing U.S. backing for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

It’s unclear whether or how that resolution will move forward. The vote last week set up debate on the measure, which could happen as soon as next week, but senators are still in negotiations on whether to amend it and what it should say.

Haspel met with a small group of senators, including the chairmen and top Democrats on the key national security committees, after senators in both parties complained that she didn’t attend a briefing with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis last week.

Pompeo and Mattis tried to dissuade senators from punishing Saudi Arabia with the resolution, saying U.S. involvement in the Yemen conflict is central to the Trump administration’s broader goal of containing Iranian influence in the Middle East. Human rights groups say the war is wreaking havoc on the country and subjecting civilians to indiscriminate bombing.

The two men also echoed Trump’s reluctance to blame the crown prince. Pompeo said there was “no direct reporting” connecting the crown prince to the murder, and Mattis said there was “no smoking gun” making the connection.

After that briefing, Graham threatened to withhold his vote on key legislation until he heard from Haspel. “I’m not going to blow past this,” he said.

That afternoon, senators frustrated with the briefing and the lack of response to Khashoggi’s killing overwhelmingly voted to move forward with consideration of the Yemen resolution, 63-37.

Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin said the briefing with Haspel “clearly went in to an evaluation of the intelligence” and was much more informative.

“I went in believing the crown prince was directly responsible or at least complicit in this and my feelings were strengthened by the information we were given,” Durbin said.

Some senators were frustrated that they were not invited to the briefing with Haspel. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a critic of Saudi Arabia, said that excluding some lawmakers is “the very definition of the deep state” and that he suspected that the Trump administration is attempting to get some lawmakers to switch their votes on the resolution by giving them information.

Khashoggi was killed two months ago. The journalist, who had lived for a time in the U.S. and wrote for The Washington Post, had been critical of the Saudi regime. He was killed in what U.S. officials have described as an elaborate plot as he visited the consulate for marriage paperwork.

U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that the crown prince must have at least known of the plot, but Trump has been reluctant to pin the blame. He has touted Saudi arms deals worth billions of dollars to the U.S. and recently thanked Saudi Arabia for plunging oil prices.

In a column for the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Graham wrote that the killing and other moves by the Saudi regime showed “astounding arrogance entitlement” and disregard for international norms.

“We are a coequal branch of government exercising leadership to safeguard the country’s long-term interests, values and reputation,” wrote Graham, a frequent ally of the president. “After all, someone’s got to do it.”

Even if the Yemen resolution passes the Senate, it appears unlikely to advance in the House. Speaker Paul Ryan last week said the Yemen resolution “isn’t the way to go.”

Allow me to quote myself "Kennedy wanted a means to victory so his minions reported that was available." NSAM 263 says in the first paragraph that MacNamara and General Maxwell Taylor's recommendations were being acted on. They gave a sanguine view. McNamara himself admits that https://youtu.be/rtAz2CJLiBs?t=36
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_D._Taylor#The_Vietnam_War Taylor received fierce criticism in Major (later Lieutenant General and National Security Advisor) H.R. McMaster's book Dereliction of Duty. Whereas the Chiefs felt that it was their duty to offer unbiased assessments and recommendations on military matters, Gen. Taylor was of the firm belief that the chairman should not only support the president's decisions but also be a true believer in them. This discrepancy manifested itself during the early planning phases of the war, while it was still being decided what the nature of American involvement should be. McNamara and the civilians of the office of the secretary of defense were firmly behind the idea of graduated pressure—that is, to escalate pressure slowly against North Vietnam in order to demonstrate U.S. resolve. The Joint Chiefs, however, strenuously disagreed with this and believed that if the US got involved further in Vietnam, it should be with the clear intention of winning and through the use of overwhelming force. McMaster contends that using a variety of political maneuvering, including liberal use of outright deception, Gen. Taylor succeeded in keeping the Joint Chiefs' opinions away from the President and helped set the stage for McNamara to begin to dominate systematically the U.S. decision making process on Vietnam.
RFK named one of his sons after Taylor. On September 9th, 1963 President Kennedy gave a television interview on Vietnam.
NBC Interview, September 9 Mr. BRINKLEY. Mr. President, have You had any reason to doubt this so-called "domino theory," that if South Viet-Nam falls, the rest of Southeast Asia will go behind it ? The PRESIDENT. No, I believe it. I believe it. I think that the struggle is close enough. China is so large, looms so high just beyond the frontiers, that if South Viet-Nam went, it would not only give them an improved geographic position for a guerrilla assault on Malaya but would also Live the impression that the wave of the future in Southeast Asia was China and the Communists. So I believe it. [...] The fact of the matter is that with the assistance of the United States and SEATO [Southeast Asia Treaty Organization], Southeast Asia and indeed all of Asia has been maintained independent against a powerful forces the Chinese Communists. What I am concerned about is that Americans will get impatient and say, because they don't like events in Southeast Asia or they don't like the Government in Saigon, that we should withdraw. That only makes it easy for the Communists. I think we should stay We should use our influence in as effective a way as we can, but we should not withdraw
Walt Rostow, sidelined for advising Kennedy that invading north Vietnam was necessary to win the war, was the only person with access who was truthful to Kennedy. His access was promtly indedAll the others brought him good news, but the trouble was the situation was swiftly deteriorating, even in the couple of months since McNamara had given his recommendations mentioned in NSAM 263 , as he admits in the interview he was forced to admit to Kennedy. American wanted to win without doing anything that might provoke China into Korea style intervention in Vietnam, such as calling out the reserves as the army’s premier tactician General Harold Johnson (Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1964 to 1968) said would have been necessary to win; a non-starter because of the threat that China would come in as they had in the Korean war. The North Vietnamese were loving it, they knew they could not be beaten because they controlled whether there were engagements with US forces, giving an option to simply avoid battle with US forces if the situation warranted it. As General Harold Johnson realised, the North Vietnamese regular units would always keep their casualties below what they considered a prohibitive level, and could not be swept away by US firepower unless America unleashed it’s full strength, which risked a land war with China. The counter insurgency could not work because there was also conventional warfare by Northern regulars. A slow build up of pressure (influenced by game theory) that civilians like McNamara advocated was useless. Lyndon Johnson stopped the bombing and gave the impression that there were to be meaningful negotiations to just to try and stop Nixon being elected. Nixon established relations w relations with China in order to put pressure on the Soviets to reign in the North Vietnamese. When the North Vietnamese were arrogant to Kissinger over their round table in Paris, Nixon said "the bastards are going to be bombed like they have never been bombed before". For the best results armed violence is a shock tactic, it has to come as a shock. Nixon understood that.

800K Children Missing Each Year In US; Pedophilia Epidemic Sweeping Globe      Cache   Translate Page
800,000 children a year in the US go missing, with many of them seized by predators who traffick them through pedophilie networks.
800,000 children a year in the United States go missing, with many of them falling into the hands of predators who traffic the children through pedophilia networks where the children suffer unimaginable horrors such as Satanic ritual abuse.

This number is comprised of documented cases of children gone missing, and does not include children who are born and bred into pedophilia networks and have no birth certificates. It also does not include undocumented immigrant children who are trafficked across the border.
Embedded video
CBP thermal imaging shows human smuggler dropping small children from border wall.
577 people are talking about this
Worldwide, the number is closer to 8 million children missing and being sexually trafficked by International pedophile rings.
Such is the scope of the epidemic that The International Tribunal for Natural Justice (ITNJ) convened over a 3-day period in Westminster, London to launch their Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Human Trafficking and Child Sex Abuse.
VaccineImpact reports:
The Judicial Commission is comprised of world leaders who have been involved in fighting child sex trafficking for years, and includes intelligence officers, politicians, legal scholars, and many others.
The International Tribunal was formed because most of the world’s government bodies today have been corrupted and no longer represent the people, but instead serve the interest of private corporations, and as such, justice is seldom found in most government judicial courts around the world today to stop such a heinous crime as child sex trafficking.
In fact, the child sex trafficking network today is actually facilitated by the rich and powerful, whose influence reaches into the political and judicial branches of society.
From the INTJ report:
The ITNJ initiative has arisen as a response to the disregard for the rule of law exhibited by (alleged) public officials, corporate directors, and ‘world leaders’ who have deliberately privatized and weaponized the governments of the world against their own people.
It is the culmination of years of endeavour and research on the part of many people from a diverse set of backgrounds dedicated to safeguarding a viable future for human kind. It is recognized that we the people must take responsibility in holding government to account when it violates basic human rights and natural law.
Today we know conclusively that many of these activities are being facilitated by politically and financially powerful individuals, government, and corporate organizations who perennially avoid being brought to account for their actions due to their affluence and influence.
Included in the court proceedings of the first Judicial Commission of the Tribunal were powerful testimonies from victims who suffered unimaginable horrors as children being sexually abused and trafficked through this powerful world-wide pedophilia network that sexually trafficks children, a human trafficking network that brings in more revenue than the trafficking of weapons and drugs.
During the opening Plenary Session, Chief Counsel Robert David Steele, a former CIA officer, gave perhaps the best summary of the purpose of Tribunal’s Judicial Commission, which has been condensed into a 15 minute video:
A partial transcript:
As a parent and as a patriot I have been outraged for some time by the clear and present danger to society of pedopredation (pedophilia or paedophilia).
I recognize now that child torture, child murder, and child organ harvesting is an ‘accepted’ practice at the highest levels of government, the NGO and multinational corporate sector, as well as throughout academic institutions and civil society.
This scourge persists because it is allowed to exist by the complicit authorities.
As a former spy and pioneer for Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) I have worked with INTERPOL, EUROPOL, Scotland Yard, the FBI, and the national intelligence and law enforcement services or their representatives from over 66 countries.
What I have found, without exception, is that they are all staffed by good people trapped in bad systems – systems that are not allowed to properly address this scourge – the multi-generational crime against humanity known as pedophilia.
Pedophilia – a ‘love for children’ – is not an accurate term. There is no love for children manifest in any aspect of child slavery, sexual abuse, torture, murder, or body harvesting.
For this reason the inaugural seating of the Commission of Inquiry into Human Trafficking & Child Sex Abuse, at the behest of ITNJ Commissioner Carine Hutsebaut (a criminologist and psychotherapist) the term ‘Pedopredation,’ has been designated as a more appropriate term, along with the term ‘pedosexual,’ for that considerable sub-set abuses of children outside the Satanic ritual network.
It is vital to note that many organizations that started out with the best of intentions – from the Boy Scouts to the day care centers to United Nations assistance and development groups to Oxfam as the most recent example – appear to have been infiltrated by pedopredators.
By virtue of being in daily contact with the most vulnerable members of society, our children, many of the mandated organizations have, over time, attracted numerous pedopredators to their ranks, and been compromised by their lack of proper vetting processes, as well as also turning a deliberate blind eye to the transgressions of staff.
This need not be so if governments were honest and counterintelligence were to be exercised. It appears to be a matter of policy at the highest levels of global leadership to turn a blind eye to pedopredation and pedosexuality.
It appears that pedopredation – including the attendant torture and murder of infants to produce adrenalized blood via ritual Satanic abuse – is in some cases considered an elite ‘privilege’ whereupon these echelons are permitted to practice such perversity with impunity.
There are two additional causes for alarm.
First, there appears to be a deliberate campaign by the elite to infect local, state (province) and national police, prosecutors, and judges – from Australia to Zimbabwe – with a ‘taste’ for pedosexuality.
It is used as both an initiation rite into the Deep State and Shadow Government, and as a basis for blackmail.
Worse, we are now seeing two terrible trends: one toward abusing and murdering children before they learn to speak (they cannot bear witness); and the other, perhaps brought back by US forces from Afghanistan, the combination of war dogs and toddlers in a devastating combination of child rape and bestiality – dogs raping children for videos to be sold.
Add to this the growing market in fetuses, the most prized being those delivered on the floor as part of a Satanic ritual, and one has an inkling of the greatest evil on the planet.
Second, it has become clear from our early inquiries with ample documentation, that both the family courts and the insolvency courts are being used to strip children from families to convert the children into a commodity that can be sold for cash, and are also being used to strip assets from wealthy individuals who are not part of the Deep State network.
Governments are complicit in child and asset stripping, which would not occur if registrars, lawyers (barristers), and judges were held accountable. False claims and documents abound, and in their tolerated existence, challenge the legitimacy of the government.
ENOUGH! The purpose of the Commission is to do what has not been done before: to document the actual totality of missing children each year (preliminary estimates yet to be documented are eight million a year, or 22,000 a day); and also to document what happens to these children once they are ingested into the local to global pedopredation network of networks.

The average lifespan of a child once in the pedopredation (pedophilia or paedophilia) system is estimated by some to be two years — those being groomed for ‘leadership’ roles that perpetuate pedosexuality at all levels live much longer.

The writing is on the wall.  Mueller will go ‘soft’ on General Flynn and ‘show mercy’, then he will drop a bomb on Manafort and nuke President Trump.  The MSM will lap it all up and call for the President’s removal.  The House Democrats will work diligently to make it so.

The corrupt Mueller team was not benevolent towards General Flynn today.  General Flynn should never have been put in that position.  It was all just a cover up for the crime of spying on General Flynn and others by the corrupt Obama administration.  Mueller and his Deep State gang targeted Flynn and others whom they illegally spied on and set up.

La Divina Paglia has an incisive take on the Deep State and the failure of secular humanism, but like most atheists, she is a sucker for spiritualist psychobabble:
The deep state is no myth but a sodden, intertwined mass of bloated, self-replicating bureaucracy that constitutes the real power in Washington and that stubbornly outlasts every administration. As government programs have incrementally multiplied, so has their regulatory apparatus, with its intrusive byzantine minutiae. Recently tagged as a source of anti-Trump conspiracy among embedded Democrats, the deep state is probably equally populated by Republicans and apolitical functionaries of Bartleby the Scrivener blandness. Its spreading sclerotic mass is wasteful, redundant, and ultimately tyrannical.

I have been trying for decades to get my fellow Democrats to realize how unchecked bureaucracy, in government or academe, is inherently authoritarian and illiberal. A persistent characteristic of civilizations in decline throughout history has been their self-strangling by slow, swollen, and stupid bureaucracies. The current atrocity of crippling student debt in the US is a direct product of an unholy alliance between college administrations and federal bureaucrats — a scandal that ballooned over two decades with barely a word of protest from our putative academic leftists, lost in their post-structuralist fantasies. Political correctness was not created by administrators, but it is ever-expanding campus bureaucracies that have constructed and currently enforce the oppressively rule-ridden regime of college life.

In the modern world, so wondrously but perilously interconnected, a principle of periodic reduction of bureaucracy should be built into every social organism. Freedom cannot survive otherwise.... From my perspective as an atheist as well as a career college teacher, secular humanism has been a disastrous failure.
As a longtime Camille Paglia fan, I'm not even remotely surprised to learn that she was impressed by Jordan Peterson. She is a left-libertarian academic who is naturally inclined to assume that anyone who can sling citations around so glibly possesses a brilliant mind. However, I suspect that were she to actually trouble to read his works, check those citations, or spend more time in his company, she would swiftly pick up on his mental illness and aberrational psychosexuality.
Trump Ruins George H.W. Bush's Funeral, By Sitting Down At It      Cache   Translate Page

You watchin' 41's home-going celebration? Yeah, us neither.

But we've been on Twitter to make sure we don't miss the good parts, and we can tell you For Official that there is one (1) good part, and it is the part where Donald and Melania Trump walk to their pews and sit down. Can you believe it? Those trash-ass people sitting in a row of actual presidents and first ladies? THE NERVE.

Trump is presumably sitting there and grimacing about everybody saying nice things about George H.W. Bush, as people come together in their bipartisan, American way, to say goodbye to a president who was pretty crap but we guess was a pretty nice guy to his friends and family. Trump is probably taking everything as a personal insult, because since Trump has no good qualities, every compliment delivered to another person, even if that person is just a dead body at the front of the room, seems like a personal slight. Hell, he's probably offended nobody is talking about him. (Directly. They're not talking about him directly.)

Of course, George H.W. Bush and his late wife Barbara Bush haaaaaaaaated Donald Trump. and George W. Bush and Laura Bush haaaaaaaate Donald Trump. And that's the Republicans!

Trump, though? He's sitting on a row of DEMOCRAT DEEP STATE PREZNITS. To his left are the Obamas, then the Clintons, and then the Carters.

Shall we watch a video of the row of presidents and first ladies chit-chatting and making jokes and giving each other mints, then abruptly stopping to give side-eye to the bloody human carbuncle who's come to crash their party? Shall we watch as Barack Obama is completely fucking gracious to Melania Trump, like he always is? (She likes him. They've been funeral buddies before.) Shall we watch Michelle just cold judging everything that's going on, up until the exact second it is time for her to smile and say hello to Donald Trump? Shall we watch Hillary Clinton sit there like GENERAL STONEFACE JACKSON, studiously looking in front of her so as not to lose her sense of decorum at an inopportune moment and accidentally do the Clinton Body Count to Trump right then and there? Shall we notice how the Clintons literally do not greet Donald Trump?

We shall.

Damn, that is some must-see TV right there. It should come on after "Friends"!

Look closer at the part where the Clintons ignore Trump:

Look at Hillary. LOOK.

It's not that Hillary Clinton is rude or anything. She gives a polite "'Sup, bro" to Melania.

Look closer at Michelle Obama when she does the human thing and shakes Donald Trump's tiny hairy paw and then immediately goes back to paying attention to literally anything else, while probably mentally gaming out how soon she can wash her hands.

There is so much shade in that 53-second video, it is incredible.

Guess that's what happens when the current president is sitting next to a bunch of people he's insulted, called illegitimate, accused of faking their birth certificates, and called for prosecuting and LOCK HER UP-ping.

It's also what happens when you are in a room where 99.9% of the people present hate you.

Of course, George W. Bush and Laura Bush are seated where the family sits, so they're not in the row of former presidents and presidents who probably won't finish their first term in office. But you will be pleased to know that George W., when he came down the aisle and greeted the row, gave Michelle Obama another Candy Handy (shut up, just because we made it sound gross doesn't mean it's actually gross), because he loves passing her candy.

OK fine, "Candy Handy" is a pretty gross way of saying that.

Anyway, awwwwww, good funeral everyone, except for the part about how Donald Trump stank up the room with his stupid shit-face.

The Right Has a Michael Flynn Hangover      Cache   Translate Page

Since the Special Counsel’s Office’s (SCO) much anticipated sentencing memo for Michael Flynn was heavily redacted, most of the early response has been aimed at guessing what was included that we were prevented from reading. There’s plenty of quality speculation (see, e.g., Nancy LeTourneau on Jared Kushner and Marcy Wheeler on Reza Zarrab). Byron York, however, is stuck in his own right-wing misinformation bubble.

It probably doesn’t behoove the right to spend a whole lot more time treating Michael Flynn as a martyr now that it’s clear that he sat for nineteen separate meetings with the SCO, but they invested an enormous amount of time in that effort over the last two years.  York is really stuck on two talking points that they developed.

The first is that the intelligence community (and outgoing Obama administration) originally went after Flynn for possibly violating the Logan Act, which prohibits negotiations by unauthorized persons with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. Enacted in 1799, the law has almost never been enforced, and it has never resulted in a conviction. For York, this was a disingenuous pretense for going after the Trump transition team.

The second talking point revolves around the fact that the FBI agents who originally interviewed Michael Flynn did not report back that they detected any signs of deception on Flynn’s part. When he was still FBI director, James Comey admitted this to the House Intelligence Committee and (reportedly) to the Senate Judiciary Committee, too. Andrew McCabe, then serving as the FBI’s deputy director, confirmed it.

Taken in tandem, these two arguments created a narrative that Flynn had done nothing illegal or wrong by talking to Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition, and that he hadn’t actually lied when he was questioned about those conversations. In other words, Flynn was being wrongly persecuted.

Shortly after it was announced on December 1, 2017 that Michael Flynn had become a cooperating witness, I addressed York’s argument in a piece called It’s Not About the Logan Act. I explained that on January 24th, 2017 when the FBI first questioned Michael Flynn, they considered him a likely Russian spy and that it was part of a longstanding counterintelligence operation. As evidence for this, I pointed out that the day before Flynn was forced to resign, it was reported through a former NSA analyst and counterintelligence officer that agencies were withholding sensitive information from the White House because “There’s not much the Russians don’t know at this point. Since January 20, we’ve assumed that the Kremlin has ears inside the [situation room].”

In my September 21, 2017 piece Were Manafort and Flynn Recruited?, I discussed methods that spy agencies use to identify and recruit potential traitors, and I was fairly succinct about Michael Flynn.

Michael Flynn, however, is more in the classic mode of the disaffected recruit. Canned by the Obama administration, he was badly wounded. That he would be approached by Russians and invited to sit at a head table with Putin is not surprising. That he was given large contracts and asked to appear on the RT cable news network is exactly how you’d expect a pissed-off former head of the Defense Intelligence Community to be treated by his handlers. That he immediately opened himself up to blackmail is also obvious.

That wasn’t idle speculation on my part. In May 2017, CNN reported that intercepted Russian communications during the campaign had put Flynn under extreme suspicion.

Russian officials bragged in conversations during the presidential campaign that they had cultivated a strong relationship with former Trump adviser retired Gen. Michael Flynn and believed they could use him to influence Donald Trump and his team, sources told CNN.

The conversations deeply concerned US intelligence officials, some of whom acted on their own to limit how much sensitive information they shared with Flynn, who was tapped to become Trump’s national security adviser, current and former governments officials said.

“This was a five-alarm fire from early on,” one former Obama administration official said, “the way the Russians were talking about him.” Another former administration official said Flynn was viewed as a potential national security problem.

The conversations picked up by US intelligence officials indicated the Russians regarded Flynn as an ally, sources said.

Also in May 2017, I did a piece called Michael Flynn is in a World of Pain in which I laid out a long but still badly incomplete list of his legal vulnerabilities. I noted that he had been on the radar of our counterintelligence folks for a long time, and that suspicions about his loyalties may have even played a role in his dismissal as the chief of military intelligence.

Two things pointed that way. The first was that he had traveled to Moscow in 2013 and given a speech at the headquarters of the GRU, the Russian military intelligence agency that would later be blamed for the hacks of the DNC, DCCC, and other Democratic operatives including John Podesta. As Flynn told Dana Priest in August 2016, “I went there on a fully approved trip. I had a great trip. I was the first U.S. officer ever allowed inside the headquarters of the GRU. I was able to brief their entire staff. I gave them a leadership OPD [professional development class on leadership] and talked a lot about the way the world’s unfolding.”

As he said, that trip to GRU headquarters was approved. But he had planned on doing a second meeting in 2014. Authorization for the second trip was denied and he was fired shortly thereafter. Part of the problem was that he wanted to bring a young Russian woman he had met at Cambridge University along on the trip to serve as a translator.  Her name is Svetlana Lokhova and she was suspected of being a spy.  For a fuller explanation on this part of the Flynn saga, read my original piece.

There are alternative explanations for why Flynn didn’t make the trip (like the intervening Crimean crisis) and his firing (poor management), but what he did next really aroused consternation. As a then senior Obama administration aide remarked “It’s not usually to America’s benefit when our intelligence officers—current or former—seek refuge in Moscow.” And that’s how Flynn’s immediate post-military career was interpreted.

“It was extremely odd that he showed up in a tuxedo to the Russian government propaganda arm’s party,” one former Pentagon official told me.

That was a reference to Flynn’s attendance at Vladimir Putin’s head table (along with Jill Stein) for the December 2015 anniversary celebration of the founding of the Russia Today (RT) cable news network. Flynn made appearances on RT during that visit, and he later contracted with them and used his time to be very critical of U.S. foreign policy. That he did not seek permission and lied about being paid only added to the problem, as these mistakes added criminal liabilities and the obvious threat of blackmail to what already looked like willingly disloyal behavior from a retired three-star general.

All of this is context for understanding what the FBI was thinking when they questioned Flynn on January 24, 2017. But it’s also important to know that the FBI didn’t need to guess whether Flynn was being honest with them because they had audio recordings and transcripts of his phone calls with Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.  He may not have seemed deceptive at the time, but he was lying and they knew it.

That Flynn was convinced to cooperate isn’t much of a mystery, but it can be confusing if you believe that the only threat he was facing was a charge of being dishonest that carried a maximum sentence of six months in prison. The truth is a lot more complicated.

In addition to being a suspected turncoat who was amazingly placed in the position of National Security Adviser, Flynn faced potential charges that ranged from engaging in a conspiracy to obtain Clinton’s emails, to failure to disclose serving as an agent of a foreign power (Turkey),  to lying on security clearance applications, to violating the Emoluments Clause as a former military officer, to, in the most extreme example, conspiracy to kidnap.

He has escaped accountability for all of this and now faces the real prospect of getting no jail time at all. Not only that, but the sentencing memo treats him as a mostly honorable man.

The defendant’s history and characteristics present mitigating and aggravating circumstances. As detailed in the Presentence Investigation Report (“PSR”), the defendant’s military and public service are exemplary. He served in the military for over 33 years, including five years of combat duty, led the Defense Intelligence Agency, and retired as a 3-star Lieutenant General. See PSR (Doc. 44) at ¶¶ 70-71. The defendant’s record of military and public service distinguish him from every other person who has been charged as part the SCO’s investigation.

The government’s official position is that Flynn’s public service has been “exemplary,” which is hardly what the counterintelligence community thinks about Flynn’s record. And, as an added bonus, it appears that Flynn’s son will also escape any criminal penalties even though he could easily be charged under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Under the circumstances, it’s not hard to see how it might take 19 interviews for the SCO to cover all the ground. But it’s very hard to see how Byron York can still be yammering on about the injustice of using the Logan Act or insisting that Michael Flynn told the truth when questioned by the FBI.

It seems like the real injustice is that Flynn will not be locked up, but we will have to see what we’re getting in return before we made a final determination. The first and most important counterintelligence job was to get Michael Flynn removed as National Security Adviser since he was considered (and actually was) completely compromised by the Russians after failing to disclose his financial dealings with them.  That job was accomplished with the silly threat of the Logan Act, but that was merely for public consumption.

Maybe Byron York will figure this out before Mueller explains it to him. For now, he’s still feeding a line of fantasy to his right-wing audiences. But it’s like a bad hangover. Trump does not want people to think Flynn is a good man wrongly accused by the Deep State.  Not anymore.

Flynn is now a rat. He’s weak. Like Michael Cohen, he’s getting off easy for all the crimes he committed that have “nothing to do” with the president. Trump wants people to think he agreed to lie to save his skin, unlike that stalwart hero Roger Stone, who is taking the Fifth.

It's hard to resist the conclusion that whatever genuine hopes Trump may have had for "draining the swamp" have long since evaporated, or been "corrected" by various persuaders. Instead, Trump talks the "swamp-draining" and quondam "lock Hillary up" talk for purely demagogic purposes. Of course, it may well be that it was all just "red meat" deception in the first place. I suppose QAnon is still out there wittering about Trump's eventual multi-dimensional chess-master (or ninja) takedown of the Deep State; Q and other wishful thinkers may claim that, say, Trump needs to wait until he is elected to a second term to finally lower the boom. These possibilities are tempting, but less likely and compelling than the possibility that Trump will simply continue to rhetorically rant and threaten to expose and root out corrupt and seditious members of the government and Deep State-- then admit in his characteristic, offhand manner that reforming with a vengeance proved both infeasible and unnecessary. Case closed.

QAnon fans have been predicting that D5 -- December 5 -- is the big day when Trump arrests all of his Deep State foes. They spent much of yesterday and this morning assuring each other that the arrests will happen at the National Cathedral.

I caught a glimpse of the ceremony a short while ago. Hillary refused to look at Trump as he and Melania filed past. Obama was smiling and courteous as he chatted with Melania, who sat next to him. Bill Clinton smiled at her as well. Nobody talked to or interacted with Trump, who looked like he would rather be anywhere else.

I've never seen a president more obviously despised by all of his predecessors, regardless of party.

(After a brief pause.) I just checked again. No sign of an arrest.

If D5 is not the Day of the Storm, what will the QAnon crazies say? They will surely have some kind of rationalization...

(Scroll down to the next post for my thoughts on the Flynn business. I have a few nuggets of information which you probably won't find elsewhere.)
