Segitiga Bermuda bukan nama resmi.

Tak hanya jasad para penerbang, serpihan pesawat tak pernah ditemukan.

Setelah armada dinyatakan hilang, tim penyelamat pun diberangkatkan.

Lahirnya Mitos Segitiga Bermuda

Penulis, M. K. Jessup juga menyajikan kisah serupa dalam artikel "The Case for The UFO", dirilis tahun 1955 -- yang mengarahkan keterlibatan alien.

Florida Man Claims Sheriff Held Him for ICE for More Than Two Weeks Despite Proof of U.S. Citizenship Cache Translate Page

A Florida man born in Philadelphia has filed a lawsuit alleging Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him for weeks and prepared for his deportation to Jamaica, despite numerous documented complaints that he was a U.S. citizen and had only been to the island nation once on a one-day stop on a cruise years ago.

Peter Sean Brown, who filed the lawsuit Monday, had turned himself in to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in April for a probation violation after testing positive for marijuana. But rather than being released a few days later or given a court date, according to the lawsuit, he was handed over to ICE and mocked by agents who refused to listen to his protestations. When he was finally released 22 days later, he had lost his job at his job at a Key West, Florida, restaurant.

According to the Washington Post, Monroe County is one of a dozen Florida counties that entered an agreement with ICE in which ICE promised to compensate sheriffs financially for holding “criminal aliens” already in their custody for ICE to pick them up. The ACLU, which with the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Los Angeles-based law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has filed the suit for Brown, has contended that the agreement violates basic policing principles that will sweep up citizens like Brown and expose them to unjust and lengthy detentions.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, accuses Richard Ramsey, the sheriff of Monroe County, of unlawfully arresting and detaining a U.S. citizen.

According to Brown’s lawsuit, when he was booked in the county jail, his fingerprints were sent off to the FBI to verify his criminal records. Those fingerprints reached ICE, which sent the sheriff a detainer request asking his office to hold Brown. Officers told a confused Brown that he was going to be deported to Jamaica—a country where he knew no one—and he protested that he was a U.S. citizen and offered to provide a birth certificate as proof. He had his friend call the jail to tell them they were holding the wrong person, but the jail told the friend to relay the information to ICE, and the officers told Brown they would hold him on retainer regardless of whether he produced a birth certificate. According to the lawsuit, the inmate file maintained by the sheriff would have confirmed that Brown was born in the U.S.

Brown continued to plead with officers to look into his citizenship, but the officers mocked him, according to the lawsuit. He filed a series of written complaints, but a lieutenant told him, “it is not up to us to determine the validity of the ICE hold,” the complaint alleges. When he eventually went to court, the judge ordered the end of his detention for the probation violation, but the sheriff’s office arrested him again and returned him to the jail for the ICE request, according to the complaint.

More than three weeks after he was booked, Brown was transferred to ICE custody and taken to the Krome immigrant detention center in Miami. There, he told the agents he was a citizen, and they agreed to look at his birth certificate. His roommate emailed the document, and ICE finally released him, only after confiscating all the documents they had given him to do with his impending deportation, according to the lawsuit.

Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Times reported the case of a U.S. citizen who was held for more than a year in an ICE facility. The paper’s investigation found that ICE had released more than 1,400 people from custody since 2012 after investigating their citizenship claims.

what islands are in the caribbean

What islands are in the Caribbean? And which island is best for planning your perfect vacation?

There are at least 700 islands, reefs and cays in the Caribbean, and every one of them promises adventure for travelers. Some offer all the comforts of home, while others are harder to reach and provide rewards for explorers.

To help you understand where everything is to plan your vacation, let's take a look at the geography of the Caribbean.

Map of the Caribbean

Lesser Antilles and Leeward Islands

When you start researching the Caribbean, you'll encounter two terms: "Lesser Antilles" and "Leeward Islands." These are major island chains in the region, and home to some of the most famous vacation destinations in the world.

But what exactly are they?

Leeward Islands

The Leeward Islands face the open Atlantic Ocean to the east, in the outer, southeast corner of the Caribbean.

The islands get their name from the time when sailing ships were the only form of transportation across the Atlantic Ocean between Europe and its Caribbean colonies. The Leeward Islands include Anguilla, St. Martin, Guadeloupe and other islands.

The Leeward Islands' counterparts are the Windward Islands to their southeast, including St. Lucia, Barbados and Trinidad.

In terms of where each island chain gets its name, in sailing terminology, "windward" means towards the source of the wind, while "leeward" is the opposite direction.

In the Caribbean, the prevailing winds, known as the trade winds, blow out of the southeast. Therefore, an island to the northwest, such as Puerto Rico, would typically be leeward of an island to the southeast, such as Antigua. As well, Antigua would typically be windward of Puerto Rico, but leeward of Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Lesser Antilles

While most people can easily name individual islands and nations that make up the Greater Antilles -- Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba -- the Lesser Antilles can be harder to identify.

The Lesser Antilles, a chain of volcanic islands stretching along the southeastern edge of the Caribbean, also includes the Leeward and Windward Islands. So, the Lesser Antilles includes popular vacation destinations such as the Barbados, Antigua and the US Virgin Islands.

What About Turks and Caicos?

The islands of the Turks and Caicos aren't technically located in the Caribbean at all. Instead, we're in the Atlantic Ocean, and are part of the Bahama Archipelago, to the north of Cuba and to the east of Florida.

The Turks and Caicos shares many characteristics with the Bahamas, the country and island chain to the northwest of us. We share blue seas, white sand beaches, and a similar culture.

Caicos Islands by Satellite

However, it's Providenciales here in Turks and Caicos that is regularly recognized as one of the top travel destinations in the world. And it's Grace Bay that is also regularly voted the world's best beach.

All together, the islands of the the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles and the Bahamas, including Turks and Caicos, make up the West Indies.

Popular Caribbean Island Destinations

The Caribbean and the West Indies are filled with tropical vacation destinations to suit every wallet and every taste. Generally speaking, your travel budget and accessibility -- how long it will take you to reach your destination -- are two of the biggest considerations when planning a Caribbean trip.

With those considerations in mind, here are several Caribbean destinations popular with people all over the world.

St. Martin

One of the Leeward Islands in the southeastern Caribbean, St. Martin is one island shared by two countries, France and the Netherlands. St. Martin is famous for its airport adjacent the beach, where jumbo jets fly low right over holidaymakers.

St. Martin is a beloved airport destination because of its direct flights from Europe and the United States, and its mix of French, Dutch and Caribbean culture. Unfortunately, the 2017 hurricane season left both the island and the airport significantly damaged.

Haiti

While many travelers visit its neighbor, the Dominican Republic, Haiti is a mostly overlooked Caribbean destination. Although Haiti is quite poor, it has developed into a cruise ship destination with all-inclusive resorts. The history and culture of the country offers many opportunities for more adventurous tourists.

haiti tourism

While Haiti is quite beautiful, because of its location it also tends to experience more than its fair share of hurricanes from September to November. Travel between the airport and resorts can be challenging, so visitors should exercise caution.

St. Lucia

This isolated island hidden away in a remote corner of the Caribbean is a romantic paradise for lovers. Forested mountains tower above pristine beaches, and ultra-exclusive resorts hide among the trees.

st lucia pitons

St. Lucia is one of the more spectacular destinations in the Caribbean, but, even with direct flights from the United States it can be hard to reach -- plan on booking an entire day just on travel. The tree-top resorts are also generally aimed at luxury travelers with big budgets.

Turks and Caicos.. The Perfect Caribbean Destination?

Turks and Caicos, still largely undiscovered by mass tourism, is not only off the beaten track, but is also easy to reach from the mainland. It's about an hour by air from Fort Lauderdale to Providenciales (PLS), with direct flights to Turks and Caicos from other major airports including Atlanta, Boston and New York.

And, what's more, the beautiful award-winning beaches here on Providenciales have to be seen to be believed.

The average temperature ranges between 85 and 90 degrees (29-32 degrees Celsius) from June to October, and in an average year the Turks and Caicos has 350 days of sunshine.

The Sands at Grace Bay is located directly on beautiful Grace Bay, right on the beach. With our pool and spacious suites, we're a family favorite. We're just a short 15 minute drive from the airport, so you'll spend more of your time enjoying your vacation.

Philadelphia-born U.S. Citizen Claims He Was Illegally Detained by ICE

Philadelphia-born U.S. citizen claims he was illegally detained by ICE

A Philadelphia-born U.S. citizen says he was illegally detained by ICE and was threatened with deportation to Jamaica.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday, Brown repeatedly told authorities that he was a U.S. citizen — but he was still held in custody in Monroe County, Florida, and threatened that he would be sent to a Jamaican prison.

Brown — who lives in the Florida Keys and works in the restaurant industry — is suing Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay nearly eight months after the incident occurred in April.

Brown turned himself into the Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation when he tested positive for marijuana. Rather than being in jail until the probation violation was resolved, however, he was threatened with being deported.

His information was sent to ICE, who responded with a detainer form — which asks law enforcement to hold detainees for up to 48 hours past their release time so they may be picked up by ICE agents.

“I did not even realize what ICE was at the time, and reading through it I realized it had something to do with immigration,” Brown said in a video released by the American Civil Liberties Union — who is helping represent Brown.

“And at that point, I made a comment of, ‘There must’ve been a mistake.’”

According to the video, ICE confused Brown with someone else who had the same name.

“Mr. Brown was shocked and frightened to learn that he had been flagged for deportation. He immediately began telling nearly every jail employee he encountered that he was a U.S. citizen, born in Philadelphia, and that they should not be holding him for ICE,” the lawsuit says.

Brown had a valid Florida driver’s license, and documentation showed he was a U.S. citizen born in Philadelphia according to the sheriff’s files, the lawsuit claims.

“The guard mocked me, singing the theme song from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ with the reference of ‘West Philadelphia born and raised,’ because I had told him I was from Philadelphia,” Brown said in the video. “So he decides that rather than do anything to help me, he thought it was funny and decided to mock me with that.”

Brown offered to give authorities his birth certificate, and his co-worker and friend called the jail to explain he was a citizen.

“Despite his repeated protests to multiple jail officers, his offer to produce proof, and the jail’s own records, the Sheriff’s Office held Mr. Brown so that ICE could deport him to Jamaica — a country where he has never lived and knows no one,” the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit claims he was held illegally and later transferred to Miami to the Krome immigrant detention center — where people are held before they are deported.

Brown was only released from Krome after his roommate emailed his birth certificate to an ICE officer at the detention center, the lawsuit says.

According to a statement from the ACLU, 17 Florida sheriffs participate in an ICE detention program that pays counties $50 for each person they hold for ICE.

The agreement — called Basic Ordering Agreements or BOA’s — shield counties from liability even when they violate constitutional rights, ACLU said.

The lawsuit argues Ramsay violated Brown’s fourth amendment rights when they held him illegally.

The lawsuit says that another officer told Brown while he was detained that Ramsay previously detained another U.S. citizen for ICE for almost a year before it was determined he was a citizen.

Florida Man Claims Sheriff Held Him for ICE for More Than Two Weeks Despite Proof of U.S. Citizenship

Epic Life Quest – looking back Cache Translate Page

This will be my last post for the year. In this am going to look back on goals I set for myself over past two years, how well I’ve done, and what I plan to do in the year ahead.

The idea of epic life quest was started (in community) by Steve Jones and Brent Ozar – it is about writing down goals and calling yourself to account on how you met them every year. My first post on those lines is here. I wrote this in early 2017. I did not write one in 2018, and that was because last winter was a pretty chaotic time for me and was waiting for things to look in better shape before setting more goals for myself. This year things are looking better, and below is my summary of goals I set, and how I did.

got the second one done partially. I could not complete the first due to lack of time. And it wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. It was expensive, quality wasn’t up to the mark and practical gains out of it were none. I learned from this is not to commit to expensive learning programs without fully understanding if they are worth it.

2 Stick to blogging goals – one blog post per week, one contribution to sqlservercentral.com per two weeks.

I was able to keep up with this in 2017 and part of 2018. My blogging got rather irregular half way through 2018 because of a relocation and job change, I think I can excuse myself for that. Plan to pick this back up in 2019.

3 Keep up exercise goals of 10,00 steps per day and one yoga workout per week.

I am doing fine here and this will continue as a permanent goal.

4 Speak at local user group as often as I can (my limitations with travel do not allow me to speak at too many sql saturdays or out of town events)

I did not do good on this one. Partly because my job and other personal obligations left little time to even prepare a good talk, let alone present it. Also partly because I was in a very confused place on what to talk about. Things have cleared up a bit now.

5 Submit to speak at PASS speaker idol event.

This did not happen either, for same reasons as above. Hope to make it happen in 2019.

6 Hike the Grand Canyon with my sister, we are travelling companions and love to see places together.

YES! We made and hiked several other parks too in these two years. This will be an ongoing goal.

7 See two new countries atleast – Mexico with SQL Cruise, one more towards end of the year – remains undecided for now. But two countries it is.

YES! I saw two new countries – Mexico and Jamaica.

8 Blog on books read so that I can understand the time I devote to reading and range I read in that time.

I did not get to blogging much on what I read but managed to read quite a few books. Also contemplated on reading strategy and this will be a different type of goal (not number based) in the days to come.

9 Get home renovation work done – am undecided on if I want to keep this condo or sell it, but either way, I’d have to get work done on it. Best if it got done this year, but involves considerable financial commitment that am not sure I can meet. As of now it looks doable for this year, but may move to next year if I have to reset goals.

YES! I also sold the home after renovation. This has also changed, don’t plan to own a home anytime soon. Too much money and effort maintaining it and very limiting in so many ways.

10 Increase collection of annotated classics by year end. This is an ongoing goal to build a library for retirement. The only books I buy in print are annotated ones or those with pictures. There are not many of those and my collection is upto 30-40% of what I need already. I keep adding to it @3-4 books a year.

I am doing good on this and don’t think this should be a yearly goal, more like a long term one. I got rid of many books which I thought I did not need in paper form at all.

10 Take a course on cartooning and short story writing – both of these are my pet hobbies and never had as much time for them as I’d like – this year would like to atleast take a course on each to deepen my love and interest.
This did not happen. Too many conflicting priorities. But I did get to writing my first book and plan to pursue writing seriously in the years to come.

2018:

1 Submit to speak at PASS Summit.
This did not happen for same reasons cited above. I do not plan on this being a goal until 2020.

2 Organize SQL Saturday #10 at Louisville (not clear how different this will be yet…).
YES! SQL Saturday Louisville #10 was a phenomenal success – handed over reins of running it to new team and finding other things to do with the time I spent on it.

3 Keep up same goals for exercising.
YES! This is going on well.

4 Visit one new country with my sister – am looking at Bali/Indonesia now.

We visited three national parks as opposed to one originally planned (Zion and Quinault Rainforest). So this was not met in theory but substituted with other valid fun things to do.

5 Visit one more new country on SQLCruise, hopefully, or on my own. Either way, I do it.
YES! I visited Mexico in 2017 and Jamaica in 2018 with SQLCruise.

6 Biggie – Pay off my mortgage. Yes, this is important and am not that far away. The only thing that keeps me from it is a bit undecided on how long I can live here with job opportunities being what they are. But I will assume those will be the same and in that case, the house will be ready to be paid off in 2018.
The house was sold instead of being paid off as I relocated to another state. I consider this goal as met although in a different way.

7 Do actual analytics work – by this time I will have a reasonable understanding of R/SAS/Microsoft Data science related skills, and expect it to take me to the next level professionally.

This was a bad goal to set, to begin with. My interviewing experience told me that very few places are doing analytics seriously to begin with, and those few places are looking for ph ds and people with a decade or more of experience to fill the role. I was able to get off pager carrying DBA role and get into doing more of data architect/coding type of work, which was what I wanted to do. Future goals will not be so specific, instead focus on what direction I want to go and where am going, instead of landing actual work which will happen on its own with time.

Goals for 2019 are as below:
1 Finish off Microsoft Big Data Certification. I am already working my way through it. I will devote every saturday evening to it and hope to get it done.
2 Continue with watching pluralsight/pass summit videos and listening to podcasts whenever time permits.
3 Complete writing second book I have committed to.
4 Read two pages of a tech book every day evening with tea. I am intentionally keeping this goal very small and doable. This is also based on a few experiences with reading.
I do not have to read a tech book page-to-page.
There are parts that are more interesting and useful than others.
I need to keep notes to recall/reinforce what I read.
I will be resuming reading with this in mind.
5 Blog @ one post every two weeks – again, scaled down from one post per week and trying to keep it modest and consistent.
6 I am planning on 4 tech events – SQL Saturdays at Raleigh, neighboring Charlotte, Louisville and then the PASS Summit towards end of the year.

On personal front –
1 I plan to continue with hiking and exploring national parks. I am planning a trip in Spring/early summer with some visiting family members.
I do not think an overseas trip will materialise this year.
2 I plan to continue with healthy eating and exercising goals.

That is my rather simple goal list. If there is one lesson i have learned with writing this down is that – it helps improve my personal commitment level, it helps keeping the list small and simple. I think with a short list, commitment and simplicity, we can all get there. Happy 2019!

Strange Fruit #126: Professor Burt Ashe on the History & Cultural Significance of Dreadlocks Cache Translate Page
Dr. Burt Ashe always saw himself as a sort of a renegade. Edgy. Bohemian. But no one else seemed to agree. "The way that I presented to the world was completely, just amazingly, conventional," he says. So he decided to change his look. "I thought maybe that me growing dreadlocks might be a kind of pathway to allow what was inside to be presented outside." In doing so, he learned about all the presumptions the world projects onto black people with 'locked hair. Jai had 'locks for 7 years, and like Ashe, he was often asked if he was Jamaican. His book, "Twisted: My Dreadlock Chronicles," explores the history of dreadlocks, and details his own relationship with the look. The natural hair movement continues to gain steam with black women, but what about men? Ashe says he got some interesting responses from them while working on the book. Like, "It's just hair man you're overthinking this," and, "Dude, your relationship with your hair is a little too...." "It's sort of a questioning of my masculinity because I decided to talk about my hair and to reveal the anxiety that comes along with 'locking ones hair." But he says there's a significance to black hair, regardless of gender—that we choose our hairstyles for a reason, whether or not we can put it into words. "I think it's time we start thinking out loud about the cultural realities and personal realities of what we do with our hair means." In our Juicy Fruit segment this week, we talk about #WhoIsBurningBlackChurches, and the history of domestic and racist terrorism in the United States. On this Independence Day weekend, we wondered whether the foundational ideals of our country—as a nation of immigrants, where freedom from persecution is possible—still hold true today. At the same time we're seeing a rise in racially-motivated violence, like the Charleston shooting and the burning of black churches, we're also seeing some striking acts of civil disobedience. Bree Newsome becmse a household name after removing the Confederate flag from South Carolina's statehouse. And someone in Boston painted "Black Lives Matter" and dumped red paint on a statue of Christopher Columbus. On a lighter note, we also recap what we loved about the BET Awards, and argue about which members of #TeamStrangeFruit cried last week in the County Clerk's office, and which simply had allergies.
Pentagon Will Train Recruits Holding Green Cards Following Court Order Cache Translate Page
Updated at 9:37 p.m. ET The Department of Defense will begin assigning thousands of immigrants holding green cards to basic training, reversing a Trump administration policy that delayed their service as they were subjected to enhanced background checks. The policy change, first reported by the Washington Post , follows a preliminary injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Jon S. Tigar in the Northern District of California in mid-November. He sided with two lawful permanent residents who argued that they were discriminated against by the Pentagon policy that delayed their service for more than a year and left them in limbo between a military and civilian career. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Jiahao Kuang of San Leandro, Calif., who came to the U.S. from China in 2004 at the age of 8 and Deron Cooke of Trenton, N.J., who had emigrated from Jamaica in 2015. The two immigrant recruits were represented by the American Civil Liberties Union which had issued this statement in November

VIDEO: Get A First Look At CT Rep's A CIVIL WAR CHRISTMAS Cache Translate Page

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) continues its 2018-19 season with Paula Vogel's "A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration." Elizabeth VanDyke will direct. Performances will be held in the Harriet S. Jorgenson Theatre from November 29th - December 9th, 2018. For tickets and information please visit crt.uconn.edu or call (860) 486-2113.

Christmas, 1864. With the nation at war, it is not a silent night. All is not peaceful or bright. On one side of the Potomac, an escaped slave hurries her daughter toward the capital and freedom. On the other side, a young Confederate runs away from home with hopes of joining the fight. In the capital, Mrs. Lincoln is in desperate need of the perfect gift for her husband Abe. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel creates a historical and musical masterpiece in "A Civil War Christmas," one that is uniquely American. In the shadow of our own partisan divide, can the nation put aside its differences and share in the hope and generosity the Christmas season has to offer, and the promise of Christmas future?

The ensemble cast is led by Tony Award-nominee Forrest McClendon. McClendon is a UCONN alum and grew up in Connecticut. He last appeared onstage at Connecticut Repertory Theatre in "Peter and the Starcatcher" in 2016.

BWW Interview: Tamara Lawrance Talks THE TELL-TALE HEART Cache Translate Page
Tamara Lawrance in rehearsals

In the three years since leaving drama school, Tamara Lawrance has accomplished a lot. As well as playing alongside Ian McKellen in King Lear at Chichester Festival Theatre, the actress has featured in acclaimed productions on the London stage.

The Tell-Tale Heart marks Tamara's third appearance at the National Theatre. Reuniting with writer Anthony Neilson, Tamara gives us an insight into his rehearsal room, how they've adapted what was originally a six-page story, and what audiences can expect from the play.

What is your earliest memory of theatre?

I think it might be War Horse...when I was in secondary school, which is weird because it's actually back in the building now! My most vivid memory of the production is the moment when Joey is learning to gallop, and he goes from being a foal to an adult horse.

Did you know you always wanted to get into acting?

Yes, from as early as eight years old I'd say.

I also watched crime drama with my Mum and at some point, I think I entertained the idea of doing something round that. I'm still interested in things like psychology and the way in which the mind works, but that all ties itself very nicely to acting.

Knowing you wanted to do it from a young age, how did you then get into the business?

So at GCSEs and A-Levels, I picked Drama. But it was only when I got to the latter end of secondary school that I first heard the mention of drama schools. And my tutor at A-Level had gone to the Central School of Speech and Drama, so I had a lot of advice and coaching that helped me in my auditions that year.

That was three years ago...it's kind of wild to be on the other side of it.

And what a three years! This is your third time at the National, you've played Chichester, the Royal Court. And you're now reuniting with Anthony Neilson, who you worked with on Unreachable. A lot of that was devised in the rehearsal room, right?

Yes. My audition even was just a conversation, because there was no text or anything.

Devising sounds great but a lot of actors really don't like improvising; it's quite hard - it's exposing. And there are times when the air gets stagnant and the ideas get stale and there's lots of silence. It was really scary the first time.

But it can be great when you're on stage with script in hand. It brings it back to using previews as they're meant to be used, rather than it being about having a glossy, finished product.

That must have been a great opportunity for you, being in that experimental a rehearsal room a year out of drama school.

Imogen Doel, Anthony Neilson,
and Tamara Lawrance in rehearsals

Yes it was, and it was good for confidence. I had a lot of social anxiety a couple of years ago. Having to be in a room where you have to pitch in really challenges your group dynamic. It forces you to not always be the observer or the person in the background and quiet. So now I'm much more open about my thoughts than I used to be.

And it taught me a lot, working with people who push theatre to its extremity. It's easy to put on a safe play that everyone already knows. But to take a risk and be like, "We don't actually know if this is going to be a good play, but he's going to write it and we're going to go on regardless", that's pretty... I don't want to say radical because it shouldn't be, but it's subversive.

The last three years have seen you on screen as well as stage, with King Charles III. You weren't in the London cast were you?

Not the London stage cast, no, but I felt so welcome. It was reassuring to be among people who were so familiar with the text already. And I had the honour of watching the late Tim Pigott-Smith work. I also went on to work with Oliver Chris and Tim McMullan straight afterwards in Twelfth Night!

And since then, The Long Song is another brilliant screen job I've had with the BBC. It's a TV version of the book by Andrea Levy, set in Jamaica on the eve of Emancipation. It airs the week before Christmas.

And now you're back at the National for The Tell-Tale Heart. How familiar were you with Edgar Allan Poe and that Gothic genre?

A bit from English Literature, we studied a lot of Gothic texts at A-Level: The Bloody Chamber, the Brontës etc.

I was familiar with one of his other stories, The Raven. But not this one. It's terrifying.

What drew you to the project?

The opportunity of doing this kind of story in combination with Anthony again, I thought, "This is bound to be insane!" I think it will be a fun show, full of twists and turns.

And what he's done with it, those six pages. You know, for the first little while as always there's nothing, and then something comes in and it's like, "Okay..." Then he rewrites the same three scenes for a few weeks, and he won't be in rehearsals for a few days, and then eventually he'll come in after a weekend with something new and be like, "Ah... it's shit, it's kind of stream of consciousness, I just wrote it in a few hours." And it'll be amazing!

So it's very exciting to work with him again and we all knew what to expect. There's been slightly less fear because of that.

Imogen Doel and Tamara Lawrance
in rehearsals

So it's similar to Unreachable then: being written as rehearsals are going on.

Yes. It's been tough for us all, it's been tiring, but now we're finally getting closer to a whole script. And so begins an intense amount line learning!

People always ask, "How do you learn your lines?" But learning lines is a relatively mundane part of it. If you think about how many song lyrics we remember from when we were ten years old, it's just repetition, there's nothing glamorous about it.

Can you tell us a bit about the role you play?

I play the Writer, who is somebody who has had a recent success and she's sort of suffering from second album curse and thinking, "Okay, was it a fluke?" She's got to prove to herself and other people that she can write and that she deserves to have a career, now that she's blown.

So she's suffering with that kind of anxiety and takes herself away for some respite and to clear her writer's block. And she befriends the landlady of the house that she's staying in, then their relationship intensifies and...the rest ensues! I can't reveal too much more.

Spoilers!

Exactly. And also because we're waiting for more scenes as well! So I don't even know!

It must be so interesting for you and Anthony: approaching this play about writing, him writing it himself, and you playing that writer.

Tamara Lawrance in rehearsals

It is! I have been bearing that in mind, that a lot of what I'm playing might be how he feels about this particular project. I'm not thinking, "Oh, I guess I'm playing Anthony!" But I'm aware somewhere in the back of my mind that he's kind of written a day in the life of his shoes. It's interesting.

It's a very layered play, he's really clever. But I don't think he tries to be, like in a pretentious way. There is symbolism and themes that obviously he wants the audience to understand but ultimately he wants you to be entertained. But I do hope people pick up on all of the detail.

As well as reuniting with Anthony, you're working again with Imogen Doel who was also in Twelfth Night with you last year.

Yes, it's lovely and David [Carlyle] and Imogen were friends from before, so we all know each other. It's been very chilled working with them, we're very supportive of each other, as is Anthony and the whole creative team.

After this show, you'll have worked in all three theatres at the National: the Olivier, the Lyttelton and the Dorfman. Have you had a chance to get on stage yet?

We haven't been up there yet, but I'm looking forward to it - it's such a cool space. I've seen it in lots of different configurations between Love and Barber Shop Chronicles and Nine Night. Our set is wicked and a lot of surprising things happen in the piece.

No spoilers again!

Nope! Honestly - whatever you think it might be, it's even crazier than that!

Race to the Bottom? India Plans Deep Dive for Seabed Minerals Cache Translate Page
In the 1870 Jules Verne classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," underwater explorer Captain Nemo predicted the mining of the ocean floor's mineral bounty - zinc, iron, silver and gold. India is catching up with that only now, as it prepares to unearth treasures down below, aiming to boost its economy. The floor of the world's seas is scattered with vast beds of black potato-shaped polymetallic nodules comprising copper, nickel, cobalt, manganese, iron and rare earth elements. These natural goodies are key to making modern gadgets, from smartphones and laptops to pacemakers, hybrid cars and solar panels. As expanding technology and infrastructure fuel global demand for these resources - whose supply is dwindling fast onshore - more and more countries, including manufacturing powerhouses India and China, are eyeing the ocean. "We have to depend on ocean resources sooner or later ... there is no other way," said Gidugu Ananda Ramadass, head of India's deep sea mining project at the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in the southern city of Chennai. "For the future of mankind ... the ocean is the only hope," he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. India, Asia's third-largest economy, is going full steam ahead in anticipation of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) - a U.N. body that oversees mining on the high seas - giving the green light for commercial exploitation. Captain Nemo appeared to get one thing wrong, however, in asserting deep sea minerals "would be quite easy to exploit." Over the next decade, the Indian government plans to pump in more than $1 billion to develop and test deep sea technologies like underwater crawling machines and human-piloted submarines, according to the earth sciences ministry. If it works, the equipment will be able to reach depths of up to 6 km (3.7 miles), where metals can be 15 times more concentrated than in land deposits. The ISA allows India to explore an area in the Indian Ocean of 75,000 square kilometers (about 29,000 square miles), equal to roughly 2 percent of the country's size. Moon, Mars…and the Ocean Once thought to be too costly and difficult, industrial-scale sea mining could begin as early as 2019. Canada's Nautilus Minerals is on track to become the first company to start operations, which it plans to launch near the Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea, according to a company statement. All countries are as yet in the experimental or exploratory phase, and the ISA is still hammering out regulation and royalty terms for commercial mining. The prospect has excited India, which depends heavily on China, the world's biggest producer of elements. China provides about 90 percent of rare earths, which are used in aviation and defense manufacturing. It has four of the 29 licenses awarded by the ISA, and Beijing controls more exploration areas in the high seas than any other country, according to the Jamaica-based intergovernmental agency. Experts say India is most interested in copper, nickel and cobalt, as it ramps up clean power generation. Cobalt, also produced in Democratic Republic of Congo, is used to make batteries that can store energy from renewable sources, including solar and wind. "These metals are not widely available in India, so they have strategic importance," said Ramadass, whose team is set to trial mining at a depth of 5,500 meters by 2022. India's goal is to become self-reliant in the minerals, and it is "not in a race with anybody," he added. "We are exploring Mars, we are exploring the moon, why don't we explore our own oceans?" he said. 'Final Frontier' Experts warn that in the absence of a clear international charter, deep sea mining operations could cause irreversible damage to a little understood ecology. Indian environmentalist Richard Mahapatra fears private players could sound the death knell for Earth's "final frontier", which he said has been explored only 0.0001 percent. The seabed is home to a unique ecology where colonies of organisms and creatures have evolved over millions of years, free of wild currents, sunlight, vibrations and noise which mining would bring, said Mahapatra, managing editor of the New Delhi-based science and environment magazine Down To Earth. According to a 2017 study by Britain's National Oceanography Centre, mining experiments at seven sites in the Pacific Ocean showed the amount and diversity of marine life was reduced "often severely and for a long time." Sediment plumes and disturbance caused by mining could wipe out habitats for slow-growing corals and fish, Mahapatra said. It could also have long-term effects on how the ocean, which absorbs carbon dioxide and heat, regulates the world's climate. While the 1982 U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) already includes regulation of mineral-related activities, environmentalists say the rules are not good enough. Mahapatra urged countries to put vested interests aside in agreeing the new ISA framework, given the damage humans have already done to the planet's atmosphere, land and surface water. "Deep sea mining will be pure commerce, but there are certain situations where you cannot put profit before people," he said. "We should not rush it, otherwise we will head towards another disaster (environmental damage)." Marine-friendly technology? India's deep ocean exploration program dates back more than two decades, during which it has been surveying the sea floor and testing environmental impacts, according to the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in the western state of Goa. NIO scientist N.H. Khadge said the upcoming ISA guidelines, which its 168 member states will sign up to, would require contractors to "plan minimum disturbance" at the sea floor. B.K. Thakur, a senior scientist at New Delhi's Ministry of Earth Sciences, said compared to land mining, seabed operations would be the lesser of two evils. Sediment kicked up by underwater mining would dissolve and resettle, and there would be no carbon emissions, unlike on land, he noted. "There would be no need to build roads, infrastructure or ... relocate communities - nothing major like we see on land," he added. But some experts warned even minor alterations could cause substantial harm to marine habitats and sea creatures. "Mining for nodule resources on the seafloor is likely to be highly destructive in the mined area, with long-lasting impacts," said Daniel Jones, author of the NOC report. Minimizing India's mining footprint is a challenge, said NIOT's Ramadass, adding its technology would be as "environmentally friendly" as possible. With the plan only to scoop up mineral nodules rather than digging into the sea floor, flora and fauna would not be destroyed, he believes. But there would be some disturbance, he conceded. "We cannot avoid that," he said.

Trump's 'Deport Everyone' Policy Nabs Philadelphia-Born Citizen, But It's OK, He's Black Cache Translate Page

The Trump administration's efforts to deport all the nasty horrible criming foreigners just keeps scoring wins! Along with all the undocumented moms and dads scooped up while dropping the kids off at school (total threats to the nation), the New Cruelty makes the occasional error, like targeting US citizens for deportation, which is quite the regrettable oopsie, but is really just the sort of thing that will happen from time to time. Isn't Making America Great Again worth a little overreach now and then? Still, troublemakers like the American Civil Liberties Union seem to think people have "rights," and now the ACLU is suing a county sheriff's office in Florida for having held a Philadelphia-born US citizen, Peter S. Brown, for three weeks while refusing to even check his repeated offers to prove his citizenship. After all, Immigration and Customs Enforcement had asked the Monroe County Sheriff''s Office to hold "Peter Brown" for deportation to Jamaica, and that was that. Serves the US-born Brown right for having such an exotic name.

Back in April, Brown, who lives in Key West, turned himself in to the Monroe Sheriff's department on a parole violation because he'd tested positive for weed on a pee test. (See, already a dangerous criminal!) He expected he'd spent a few nights in jail at most, but instead, because Monroe County is one of 17 Florida sheriffs' departments that signed up to share information and hold immigration suspects for ICE, he ended up being mistaken for the wrong guy and scheduled for deportation, and nothing Brown could do would convince his jailers to even look at the proof he was a citizen -- although, as it turns out, the jail's own records listed Brown's place of birth as "Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."

Brown tells his story in this video posted by the ACLU:

Serves him right for getting arrested by Sheriff Franz Kafka. Ha-ha, we are joking! The Monroe County Sheriff is named Richard A. Ramsay, and Sheriff Ramsay is named in an ACLU lawsuit accusing his office of "unlawful arrest and detention" of a citizen and violation of Brown's Fourth Amendment rights, as well as violation of Florida state law against false arrest. The lawsuit seeks damages for Brown's treatment, which included not only being falsely held for three weeks while the county ignored -- and jailers made fun of -- his attempts to show he's a citizen, but also taunting him about his certain deportation to a Jamaican prison. You know, just the sort of good-natured ribbing some good ol' Florida deputies would do to a gay man who feared being sent to one of the most homophobic countries in the Western Hemisphere.

The ACLU also argues the nature of the "Basic Ordering Agreement" between ICE and county sheriffs includes a perverse incentive: Since ICE pays counties to hold people wanted on immigration warrants, the counties have every reason to disregard the rights of people who can't show they've been illegally detained.

Needless to say, ICE portrays the BOA agreements a s a vital tool in protecting decent law-abiding Americans from criminal thugs who might be released on a technicality (like only being held until a minor parole violation is dealt with) then allowed back on the streets to terrorize us all with their driving without a license or smoking devil weed.

And since the Sheriff's Office was absolutely certain Brown was a dangerous criminal alien, they didn't simply ignore his insistence he was born in Philly (and his distinct lack of Jamaican accent), they also completely ignored the attempts by a friend of Brown to show a copy of Brown's birth certificate or to convince them they had the wrong guy:

[An] online inmate locator, viewed by Brown's friend, included eyebrow-raising information. By its account, Brown stood 7 feet tall, when in fact he is no more than 5-foot-7. It also listed an incorrect birthday. When his friend called the jail to say they had the wrong man, officers told her the only option was to inform ICE.

Oh, but the jail staff didn't just ignore Brown's accurate claim he was a citizen -- they taunted him about it, because everyone knows the jails are full of innocent people. One sang the theme from "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," because "In west Philadelphia born and raised..." is what passed for sharp wit to use at a stupid lying illegal Jamaican. For a variation, another member of the jail staff adopted a fake Jamaican accent and said, "Yeah, whatever mon, everything's gonna be alright." The complaint doesn't specify whether the jailer also sang like Bob Marley, but wouldn't that have been a hoot?

Brown also filed a whole series of written complaints, including this one reproduced by the ACLU's blog post on the lawsuit. Hey, not our problem, said the sheriff's office. We're gonna hold you no matter whether the ICE request is valid or not, and the validity of your detention is "between you, your attorney, and ICE."

Due process? We don't have to show you no stinking due process. Frankly, we're astonished that virtually none of the press coverage of Brown's case has made more of the fact that this is the second time he's been falsely accused of being a "criminal alien" -- he says over 20 years ago, in New Jersey, he was arrested by INS -- the predecessor to ICE -- then "harassed and questioned all day," then unceremoniously left outside with a "whoops, sorry, wrong person." Hey, man, everyone has a story. Enjoy prison in Jamaica and say hi to Jimmy Buffet if you see him, har har.

Not surprisingly, even after the judge in his parole case ordered Brown's release, Monroe County refused to let him go. Instead, the sheriff's office rearrested him under the BOA, and held him for ICE, keeping the community safe from an American citizen.

Once he was finally sent off to an ICE facility (it was during that transfer that the witty deputy teased him with the fake Jamaican accent), somebody finally decided maybe they had the wrong, much shorter black man: At the Krome Detention Center in Miami,

Brown told ICE agents that he was a U.S. citizen, and they agreed to look at his birth certificate. His roommate emailed the document to an officer, the complaint reports, at which point the agency "hastily arranged for his release."

But wait! There was still time for one last bit of fuckery, according to the lawsuit: "Before he left, they confiscated all the documents they had given him regarding his impending deportation." Wouldn't want a paper trail documenting a tremendous screwup, heavens no.

As the Washington Post notes, this sort of insane indifference to due process and even very basic police work isn't unique to Brown's case:

Brown is hardly the only U.S. citizen to face the threat of deportation. A Syracuse University study published in 2013 used ICE records to determine that the agency had placed detainers on 834 U.S. citizens over just a four-year period.

In another detail that's gotten little attention, the ACLU's complaint even points out the Monroe County Sheriff's Office "recently held at least one other U.S. citizen for ICE" [our emphasis], but even after that incident, Sheriff Ramsay had "failed to implement any policies or training to ensure he has probable cause" when detaining people for ICE. Instead, the office's official policy is simply to hold everyone ICE asks to detain, no matter what.

The lawsuit -- which names only Ramsey in his role as sheriff -- seeks a declaration that Brown's rights were violated, as well as unspecified damages and payment of his attorneys' fees. Yr Wonkette hopes The US District Court for the Southern District throws the book at 'em. And this book, too.

With Jamaica’s civic bird and annual on the central of my arm and the atramentous brilliant of the Ghanaian banderole forth with a 17th-century apprehension fabricated by the association of my benevolent birth on the back, I feel acutely affiliated to my roots and to ancestors of ancestors afar by oceans or death.

As an introvert, I’m not generally accessible about my claimed history and interests, so my tattoos acquiesce me to allotment $.25 and pieces of myself. For bigger or worse, tattoos are the accent with which abounding of us acquaint the adventure of our lives. But for abounding bodies of colour, abnormally those of us who acquire darker skin, these beheld belief abide untold, back accessing this accent of self-expression, compassionate and affiliation is not calmly done.

“Some tattooists don’t appetite to [work on bistered skin],” says Cuban-born boom artisan Lorena Lorenzo (@indigoartattoos). “I’ve asked artists in the accomplished and they’ll say, ‘You can’t absolutely see it’ or ‘I can’t do nice work.’”

Despite the cool of boom shops in Toronto and a growing absorption in accepting inked, boom artists who are abreast about or alike accommodating to assignment on darker pigments are attenuate due to a accepted delusion that acceptable pieces can’t be done on darker skin.

“It’s an advancing average that anybody abides by,” says artisan Thomarya “Tee” Fergus (@iamnattee). “The darker your skin, there ability be some things you won’t be able to get congenital in a piece, but it doesn’t beggarly you acquire to get a bad tattoo. It’s aloof about alive with the skin.”

Fergus’s career in tattooing began 10 years ago. She has back acquired a acceptability for her beheld ability and boom work, and her name is amid the best broadcast by associates of this city’s Atramentous association in chase of accomplished boom artists.

“First and foremost, I’m actuality for bodies of colour. I’d adulation added bodies of colour to apperceive that [Black tattooists] abide and that I’m actuality for us, aloof to appearance we can do a lot of the things that we’ve been told we couldn’t, like style-wise and the blazon of tattoos we get,” she says. “Some [artists] are abashed to acquire us and acquire that we too can airing about with these admirable adornments on our skin. We can get some absolutely alarming work. We don’t acquire to achieve for shit.”

When Brittany Randell (@HumbleBeeTattoo) grew annoyed of designing tattoos for added artists, she absitively to aces up a apparatus herself. But clashing Fergus’s experience, Randell says accepting an apprenticeship didn’t appear accessible – an affair she attributes, in part, to actuality a Atramentous woman in a white, male-dominated industry. She credits the abutment of added women of colour for her growing success. Women like herself, she says, who are generally overlooked.

The careers of celebrity tattooists Miryam Lumpini and Richard “Made Rich” Parker whose portfolios affection beauteous pieces abounding with intricate capacity and affluence of colour on audience with darker bark acquire garnered a ample online afterward and becoming them acclaimed audience and appearances on absoluteness shows, attesting to the ample beginning bazaar of Atramentous bodies of colour who are absorbed in accepting tattooed by artists who accept their needs. Despite their success, bounded markets are apathetic to respond.

“I anticipate a lot of artists aren’t necessarily accommodating to go added and apprentice how to boom darker pigments,” Randell says.

Lorenzo, a boom artisan at Atramentous Line Studios who has formed in the industry for eight years, agrees. She says the abhorrence of boom artists to assignment on darker bark tones boils bottomward to a abridgement of training.

“A acceptable boom artisan should be able to do all kinds of [skin tones]. Aback aback I was accomplishing my apprenticeship, I was absolutely advantageous to assignment with artists who gave me that training,” she explains. “You aloof acquire to amusement the bark in a altered way. Acquisition the appropriate pigment, acquisition a nice architecture that will clothing the applicant and acquisition the appropriate concepts.”

Nine Night, Natasha Gordon's critically acclaimed play transfers from the National Theatre to the Trafalgar Studios on 1 December 2018 (press night 6 December) in a co-production with Trafalgar Theatre Productions. Natasha Gordon takes the role of Lorraine in her debut play, for which she has recently been awarded the Charles Wintour Award for 'Most Promising P' at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. This transfer makes her the first black British female playwright to have a play staged in the West End.
She is joined by Oliver Alvin-Wilson (Robert), Michelle Greenidge (Trudy), Hattie Ladbury (Sophie), Rebekah Murrell (Anita) and Cecilia Noble (Aunt Maggie) who return to their celebrated NT roles, and Karl Collins (Uncle Vince) who completes the West End cast.
Directed by Roy Alexander Weise (The Mountaintop), Nine Night is a touching and exuberantly funny exploration of the rituals of family. Gloria is gravely sick. When her time comes, the celebration begins; the traditional Jamaican Nine Night Wake. But for Gloria's children and grandchildren, marking her death with a party that lasts over a week is a test. Nine rum-fuelled nights of music, food, storytelling and laughter - and an endless parade of mourners.

FILME&ACTORI 'Spider-Man: New Generation', noul om păianjen afro-american şi hispanic Cache Translate Page
"Cred că totul are legătură cu business-ul. Motivul pentru care există atâtea proiecte multiculturale sau cu protagoniste feminine este pentru că există cerere, oamenii sunt pregătiţi să dea bani pentru ele", a declarat AFP, Jake Johnson, care îi împrumută vocea lui Peter Parker. Fie că este alb, negru sau mulatru, Spider-Man rămâne un supererou. Iar Miles Morales "nu înseamnă că este mai puţin puternic decât predecesorii săi", a precizat Johnson. Reggae is known by many as Jamaica's most recognizable and influential musical genre. And now it has been officially recognized by the United Nations. This past week , reggae earned an entry on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The list is meant to "enhance the visibility of traditions from various communities without recognizing standards of excellence or exclusivity" as outlined on this year's list. With the selection, reggae music is joining hundreds of other traditions from around the globe, including embroidery art from Tajikistan, tamboradas drum-playing rituals in Spain and pottery skills of the women of Sejnane in Tunisia. UNESCO dubbed reggae music as a "vehicle for social commentary, a cathartic practice" and "a voice for all." Augustus "Gussie" Clarke, a reggae producer and one of the leading advocates for reggae to be recognized on the list, agrees. In an interview with NPR's All Things Considered , Clarke spoke with Michel Martin

U.S.-born citizen sues Florida sheriff's office that held him so that ICE could try to deport him Cache Translate Page

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have tried to deport hundreds of U.S. citizens over the years, with the federal government agreeing just this past October to settle with one U.S. citizen who had been wrongfully detained for $55,000. Now ICE is at it again, nearly deporting U.S.-born Peter Sean Brown to Jamaica, and with the help of a Key West, Florida sheriff’s office that already has a history of harassing immigrants.

”The saga began when Peter reported to the Monroe County Sheriff’s office for violating probation with a low-level, marijuana-related offense,” the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said. “Instead of quickly releasing him, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office told Peter that they were keeping him locked up to facilitate his deportation. ICE had faxed a request, known as a ‘detainer,’ asking the sheriff to lock Peter up, so it could deport him to Jamaica.”

Brown, according to the ACLU, had never even heard of ICE before. When he protested that he was born in the U.S. and asked to be able to show his birth certificate, the sheriff’s office “ignored him entirely. None of them helped him cancel the detainer or even looked into his claims, even though the jail’s own records listed Peter as a U.S. citizen. Many officers even mocked him, telling him in a Jamaican accent that everything was ‘gonna be alright.’”

The Monroe County Sheriff’s office had already made an unfortunate name for itself, when last year one deputy questioned the immigration status of a man who had just been hit by a car. He was eventually arrested by Border Patrol. The next month, that same deputy was at it again. “Sixteen years you've been in the United States,” he told a man he pulled over for an alleged traffic violation, “and you haven't bothered to do anything to get anything?" He then called Border Patrol on him.

As for Brown, he was in custody by the sheriff’s office for weeks before ICE came for him and transferred him to Miami, where he was just days from deportation to a nation that wasn’t his own before ICE finally agreed to look at his birth certificate. They at last let him go, but left him stranded hours away from Key West.

The first flavors that I pick up is light salty and peppery seasoning, with hints of the red wine marinade. Garlic and onion starts coming in, and a touch of heat is starting to build. The chewing brings on a rich natural meat flavor, with the taste of soy sauce, and faint traces of thyme and nutmeg

For being marketed as "Jamaican", it certainly holds up. I get a seasoning blend that tastes very much like Allspice, which is common with Jamaican cuisine, but I also get a light bit of chile pepper heat. I can pick up wee bit of thyme and nutmeg, also very common with Caribbean cooking. The light heat seems to register as "mild medium" on my personal heat scale (level 2 out of 5).

Otherwise, the primary taste profile is a complex seasoning blend with a moderate level of saltiness. There's a noticeable garlic component, and light chile pepper flavor. The natural meat flavors stand out well with its red wine marinade.

The meat consitency looks excellent. Seemingly all meat, sliced into thick strips that bite off easily enough. It's slightly moist that it retains a bit of softness, but overall has a typical jerky dryness. The chewing texture feels just like real pieces of steak, cooked medium well.

Verdict

This Jamaican Beef Jerky from Beefy Boys does an excellent job of delivering a complex seasoning and spice that the Caribbean island is known for. I really like the garlic, thyme, and nutmeg that stand out, and I like the light level of heat. But most of all, I like the rich natural meat flavor with its red wine marinade, and steak-like chewing texture. The thick strip cut that this Jamaican variety comes with is different from Beefy Boys other flavors, and creates more meaty-excitement because of how thick the pieces are.

Can ICE Arrest/Deport US Citizens? Cache Translate Page
The answer is yes. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) does make mistakes. While this should never happen, it is definitely a possibility. This was the case when a Florida man was detained by ICE in the Keys. The man is now suing the local sheriff who’s deputies arrested him on behalf of federal agents who wanted him deported to Jamaica, even though he is a U.S. citizen. The man filed the federal lawsuit on Monday, accusing the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the Florida Keys of violating his constitutional rights. The man, who lives in the Keys, wasn’t deported after a friend provided the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency with proof of his citizenship. He was arrested last April by deputies at the request of ICE agents. He says he repeatedly told deputies he was a U.S. citizen and offered to produce a birth certificate showing he was born in Philadelphia. If you are a U.S. citizen, and you are detained by ICE, assert your…
