FREDDY CRICIEN Discusses MADBALL's Guitarist Situation      Cache   Translate Page
MADBALL vocalist Freddy Cricien has spoken out about the band's guitarist situation, more than a year after the group parted ways with longtime axeman Brian "Mitts" Daniels. At the time, the New York hardcore veterans called the split "a very hard and heartbreaking decision for all involved." MADBALL's latest studio album, "For The Cause", saw the return of guitarist Matt Henderson, who laid down the guitar tracks in the studio but has not joined the band on tour. Speaking to Metal Underground on November 30 in Bristol, England, Freddy said (see video below): "Our current situation is we have Dom [Dominik Stammen] — he's from a band called BORN FROM PAIN. He's German, actually, and they're sort of a Dutch/German hybrid, 'cause Rob [Franssen], the singer, is from Holland. And some of the rest of the guys are from Germany. They've been around a long time — they've been around a good, long while, and they're a very, very strong presence for European hardcore, for sure. But they also happen to be our friends, and they also happen to work closely with us. Like, Rob tour manages for me for the last 10 years and Dom has worked with us as a guitar stage manager. So, just naturally, Dom came and jumped in on the European stuff. And then, as of recently, we have a guy named Mike, who's out of New Jersey, who's helping us out in the States. So right now we have two guys that are solid people and solid, solid guitar players. We're kind of lucky. And eventually we'll settle on someone permanently." Asked if MADBALL has anyone in mind for a possible "permanent" replacement for Mitts, Freddy said: "It'll probably be one of those two guys. But more than likely… Dom's just got too much on his plate. So it's gonna either be the other guy, or another guy." "For The Cause" was released on June 15 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2014's "Hardcore Lives" was co-produced by Tim Armstrong (RANCID), who also makes a guest appearance on the song "The Fog". It was mixed and mastered by renowned producer Tue Madsen (MESHUGGAH, THE HAUNTED, SICK OF IT ALL) at Antfarm Studios in Denmark.

Klopp must disappoint Liverpool mainstay in hunt for victory v Burnley - Verdict      Cache   Translate Page
OPINION If there is one Liverpool player who has gone down hill in recent times, most fans would answer with Jordan Henderson. Once a rock in the first team, Henderson has since been overshadowed by some new arrivals to the midfield, Naby Keita and Fabinho. However, it is Fabinho who has outshone the England international in recent times, and his performance against Everton gave him a strong case to remain in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI for their clash against Burnley on Wednesday. He was mightily impressive and demonstrated why it was worth the effort to sign him and rest him in the firs...

Quem vai levar a melhor?

E no dia 21, lá vem o Rei!

The Highlander Research and Education Center in New Market, Tennessee is a living piece of civil rights history. It functioned as a folk school from the 1930s through '60s, hosting Rosa Parks, Dr. King, Congressman John Lewis, and other activists and icons. Now in its 85th year, the Highlander continues to be a space where movement leaders come together to teach and to learn. Executive Directors Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson and Rev. Allyn Maxfield-Steele join us this week to talk about the center's legacy, and its future. We also check in a little closer to home with Dominique Barber, who's organizing the Louisville Black LGBT Pride Festival, coming up on August 27th. [Photo: highlandercenter.org]

  • Barbara Corcoran was a real estate mogul before she became a judge on "Shark Tank."
  • As the head of The Corcoran Group, which she sold in 2001 for $66 million, Corcoran ran a "mean and lean" business by not being scared to fire underperformers.
  • She explained at IGNITION why she relished firing 25% of her sales staff every year.

When Barbara Corcoran headed The Corcoran Group, her New York real estate firm, she secretly loved Fridays — but not for the reason you think.

Ross Candell régész megtalálja a koronás prérifarkasok sírját, elveszíti viszont Károgó Varjút. Bell farmer a gabonakörök mellett hullákat talál a búzájában, nem találja viszont Henderson teherautóját. Ki nyugszik a titokzatos sírokban? Indiánok-e, vagy akik előttük éltek Amerika földjén? Ki döntötte le annak idején Marcus Aurelius császár ostromgépeit? Ki akarja megölni Candellt a hídpillér tetején? Halálos fenyegetést árasztanak a temetőt határoló hegyek. És közben mindegyre feltámad a szél.

Liverpool’s midfield problem is very real for Jurgen Klopp – but looks to have a simple solution      Cache   Translate Page
In the aftermath of Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Jurgen Klopp was asked whether he felt there was an issue with his midfield and whether it had been overrun by the French club.“We’ve conceded five goals [in the league this season] and you talk about how our midfield is ‘overrun’?,” responded a visibly irked Reds manager, who added: “Sorry, I didn’t see that. We could have scored more goals, but I don’t see any problems in midfield to be honest.”The midfield that lined up against PSG was the same one that started the Champions League final against Real Madrid, featuring Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner.Klopp’s claim about having no problems with that midfield is dubious given that he signed Fabinho, Naby Keita and desperately wanted Nabil Fekir in the summer. The German effectively sought a whole new core, so is clearly aware of the need to upgrade in the middle of the park.Of course, a manager’s words shouldn't always be taken at face value, and Klopp was unlikely to have ever said he had an issue with his midfield in a press conference. Actions speak louder than words, just as they did in the summer when he publicly backed Loris Karius but then took the opportunity to upgrade his goalkeeper by signing Alisson. The issuesThe defeat in Paris was Liverpool’s fifth European ‘away’ loss in a row, including the final in Kiev and semi-final in Rome last season. Of those defeats, Milner and Wijnaldum started all five, accompanied by Henderson in three, and Liverpool lostin Naples when Naby Keita went off early due to injury.Liverpool have failed to score and mustered just four shots from open play in a trio of defeats on their European travels this season – all against Red Star Belgrade. Between them last season, Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum scored just four goals in a combined 148 appearances. The issue comes when the front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino don’t score – it’s difficult to see where the goals will come from elsewhere.SEE ALSOMo problems? The pros and cons of Jurgen Klopp using Mohamed Salah as a No.9For many Liverpool supporters, those three aforementioned midfielders are too similar in style: none of them are known for their creativity or goalscoring prowess, and a trophy-winning team needs more than what they can offer. It’s a fair appraisal.According to football coach Simon Brundish, the Henderson-Milner-Wijnaldum triumvirate yields an average of 1.66 points per game when playing alongside each other, which equates to 63 points over a season. That stat backs up what many think: it’s a mid-table midfield, lacking the quality to create and provide for the forwards.Additionally, Brundish calculates that passes into the box per-90-minutes this season are most frequent when Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho play together – in some instances, more than twice as many. The use of the ‘passes into the box’ statistic is far more representative than the oft-reported ‘forward passes’ stat, where short-range diagonals often skew analyses.Missing menLast season, Liverpool’s top-scoring central midfielders were Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can. Shorn of all three, and with Keita and Fabinho seemingly not trusted fully by the manager yet, Klopp has most often turned to his reliable but one-dimensional trio so far this campaign.Coutinho was key in the first half of 2017/18, providing creativity in the centre whether playing as one of the midfield three or on the left of the frontline. After Coutinho’s January departure, Oxlade-Chamberlain excelled as the most advanced central midfielder. Now there’s a problem with the link between midfield and attack – something Klopp has sought to remedy with the use of Xherdan Shaqiri. But, having subbed the Switzerland international at half-time against Southampton when playing him in a central role, he has since used him only on the right of the attack.Klopp wants and needs Shaqiri in the side, but doesn’t trust him in the centre. So the summer signing goes to the right, which means moving Mohamed Salah to No.9 and dropping Roberto Firmino into the No.10 role. Liverpool then occupy a 4-2-3-1 shape – Klopp’s trademark system at Dortmund, and which would likely have been his desired one this season with Fekir as a No.10 and Shaqiri more of a squad option.SEE ALSOHow Roberto Firmino is still proving himself to be Liverpool's most important player as a No.10Solutions?Having Shaqiri in the side makes sense, but in recent games Liverpool’s forwards have looked off the pace – Firmino and Salah particularly, with both subbed against Everton. So perhaps in the short-term, Klopp would be best reverting back to 4-3-3, therefore enabling him to start three of his attacking quartet and rotate accordingly. For instance, a midfield of Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Keita would provide better balance than the aforementioned Henderson-Wijnaldum-Milner combination. But there’s another element to Klopp’s conundrum: he seems to only trust Fabinho in a double-pivot midfield, joking after the home win over Red Star that it was a birthday present for the Brazilian to play in his preferred formation.Meanwhile, Henderson has always struggled in such a midfield setup, going back to the days of Brendan Rodgers. The Liverpool captain became a new player when Rodgers moved to a midfield three and played Steven Gerrard in a holding role. It’s certainly a muddle at the moment. Perhaps it will remain that way until the new year too, when both Keita and Fabinho should be more settled and there could even be a January arrival to solve the issue.Longer term there does seem one obvious solution: 4-2-3-1, with Fabinho and Keita as the two-man midfield. Both of the new signings have played that system at previous clubs and appear to have complementary qualities: Fabinho being the more holding of the two, with Keita the more progressive, box-to-box midfielder.Signing a No.10 would let Firmino return to the No.9 role that he excelled in last season, and also restore Salah back on the right where he had the most productive season for any Liverpool player in the club’s history. How’s that knee, Nabil?New features you’d love on FourFourTwo.com

Emprega o termo “entra preconceito – sai preconceito” [bias in – bias out], para atualizar o velho ditado de computadores, “entra lixo – sai lixo” [garbage in – garbage out].

Liverpool at Burnley 12.05.18      Cache   Translate Page

Last four head-to-head:
2-1 Liverpool (a) 01.01.18
1-1 (h) 09.16.17
2-1 Liverpool (h) 03.12.17
0-2 Burnley (a) 08.20.16

Last three matches:
Liverpool: 1-0 Everton (h); 1-2 PSG (a); 3-0 Watford (a)
Burnley: 0-2 Palace (a); 1-2 Newcastle (h); 0-0 Leicester (a)

Goal-scorers (league):
Liverpool: Salah 7; Mané 6; Firmino 3; Milner, Shaqiri, Sturridge 2; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Origi, Wijnaldum 1
Burnley: Vokes 3; Barnes, Gudmundsson, Tarkowski 2; Hendrick, Lennon, Vydra, Wood 1

Referee: Stuart Attwell (LFC History) (WhoScored)

Guess at a line-up:
Alisson
Trent A-A Gomez van Dijk Moreno
Milner Henderson Keïta
Salah Sturridge Shaqiri

The first midweek league match of the season. The second of eight matches in December.

You have to assume there will be changes, will be rotation. But your guess is as good as mine as to how or whom.

What formation Liverpool plays is probably dependent on who plays. So let's guess a few absentees. There are two new injury doubts: Mané's got a cut on his foot which needed stitches, Robertson has a minor knock. Firmino's struggled for form. Liverpool have five available midfielders with Keïta fit and Henderson back from suspension.

With Mané potentially absent, Sturridge or Origi in line for a start, and all the central midfielders in contention, 4-3-3 seems more likely. I'm dubious of completely changing the midfield, but Fabinho's struggled in 4-3-3 and Wijnaldum's played more minutes than any other midfielder so far. So, there's the above guess, along with the preferred back four but with Moreno for Robertson, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Lovren or Matip either. But that's almost certainly going to be wrong in some places.

I wouldn't be completely surprised to see something more a 4-4-2 than the 4-2-3-1 we've seen lately, with two from Sturridge, Firmino, Origi and possibly Salah up front, but I'm also skeptical. If Firmino plays with another striker, it'll probably be 4-2-3-1. Origi's goal on Sunday is a wonderful story, but I doubt it makes him more likely to start matches, at least at this point.

Meanwhile, Burnley. Yikes. Karma catches up with you eventually.

Burnley had been the wizards of the Premier League in the previous two seasons. Over-performing both xG and xG against. A supremely difficult side to play again, allowing a ton of shots but very few good shots, and conceding surprisingly few goals while scoring *just enough.*

That hasn't been the case this season. At all. Well, they're still over-performing xG both for and against, although not by a ton. They've just been bad at the football. Only Huddersfield, Palace, Newcastle, and Southampton have scored fewer goals. Only Fulham has conceded more goals. They're 19th place, a point ahead of Fulham. They haven't won in more than two months, with five losses and two draws since the end of September.

And the only real line-up change from last season is Joe Hart in goal, so make of that what you will.

Burnley can't even blame injuries or absentees, other than Hart starting ahead of Nick Pope. They've again had one of the more settled sides in the league. Sure, Defour, Brady, and Tarkowski are doubtful for tomorrow's match, but the latter seems likely to start anyway and Burnley have experienced replacements for the two others.

If both Brady and Defour miss out, it'll probably be Hart; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Lennon, Westwood, Cork, Gudmundsson; Hendrick; Wood. Either Vokes or Barnes could start ahead of Wood up front. Maybe Burnley go more 4-4-2 with one of them paired with Wood in place of Hendrick. If Defour's available, he'll replace Westwood. If Brady is, he could play on either flank.

For all of Burnley's struggles, I remain nervous. A midweek match, with key players likely absent for Liverpool. An opponent who's given them problems in the past, no matter current form; last season's 1-1 at Anfield, the 0-2 at Burnley in 2016-17, even last season's 2-1 win at Burnley, decided thanks to Ragnar Klavan's only league goal for Liverpool, scored in the 90th minute. Liverpool are coming off a massive, morale-boosting win, but one achieved via fluke rather than force. Liverpool still aren't in the best form either, especially going forward.

We're reaching the point of the season where it doesn't matter how wins are achieved, with this many matches in quick succession, with crucial players needing rest or recuperation. Which, to be fair, is how we've felt for almost the entire season so far – a record amount of points at this phase of the season for Liverpool, but earned without ever truly impressing.

No matter. Just keep doing that. By any means necessary.

Karl Marx on Modern Retirement and as Early Julian Simon, by David Henderson      Cache   Translate Page

As I mentioned yesterday, I’m enjoying David Warsh’s Knowledge and the Wealth of Nations immensely. I’ll be posting highlights over the next few days.

Discussing Karl Marx’s ideas about socialism, Warsh writes:

It was at this point in the argument that the arm-waving began in earnest. What would life be like after the revolution? Afterwards, Marx said in one famous aside, the division of labor would all but disappear, and a man might fish in the morning, hunt in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, “philosophize after dinner,” just as he desires, “without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, shepherd, or critic.” If that sounds like a description of middle-class retirement living in the industrial democracies today, surely it is an accident.

I love Warsh’s humor.

And later on the same page, Warsh writes:

His [Marx’s] fundamental disagreements with the English economists became more and more obscure. Ricardo had believed that growth would cease because of the scarcity of natural resources. Marx believed it would continue because of the growth of knowledge.

Thus my reference to Marx being an early Julian Simon.

When that happens, Henderson Municipal Power & Light says it has no choice but to address the problem.

“We don’t trim trees. We clear power lines,” said Chris Heimgartner, general manager of HMPL.
