Denmark's Latest Stand Against 'Undesirable' Migrants: Ship Them To An Island       Cache   Translate Page
Lying in the middle of an inlet about two miles from shore, Denmark's island of Lindholm could be described as inhospitable; for decades cattle and swine suspected of harboring exotic viral diseases were shipped there to be studied. Now, the Danish government says the island will host another set of unwanted inhabitants: rejected asylum seekers who can't go home and foreigners convicted of crimes. And providing an inhospitable environment for them is precisely the point. "They are undesirable in Denmark, and they must notice!" Denmark's Immigration Minister Inger Støjberg posted to Facebook . The center-right government and the anti-immigration Danish People's Party, which together hold a parliamentary majority, adopted the plan on Friday as part of a greater budget bill. The goal is to decontaminate the island by late next year and open it up to some 100 people by 2021, The Associated Press reported. Støjberg says the residency permits for inhabitants will only allow them to set foot

Luka Modric wins 2018 Ballon d'Or      Cache   Translate Page

Luka Modric has won the 2018 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first player other than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to receive the award since 2007.

The midfielder, 33, who helped Croatia reach the men's World Cup final in Russia in the summer, is the first Croatian to win the prestigious prize, which is voted for by journalists.

On a historic evening in Paris, the ceremony had a women's category for the first time since its inception in 1956, with Norway's Ada Hegerberg crowned the inaugural women's Ballon d'Or winner.

The 23-year-old scored in this year's Champions League final, playing a key role in Lyon winning the tournament for a third successive year.

But there was controversy during the ceremony, with co-host Martin Solveig widely criticized on social media after asking the striker during the presentation: "Do you know how to twerk?" The player responded by saying "no."

Solveig later apologized and said he didn't meant to offend anyone. "This was a joke, probably a bad one, and I want to apologize for the one I may have offended. Sorry about that," Solveig said in a tweeted video.

Kylian Mbappe, who dazzled for France as Les Bleus triumphed in Russia in the summer, won the newly-formed Kopa award for the best young player.

The 19-year-old finished fourth overall, above Messi in fifth. Ronaldo was second, with France and Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann third and Liverpool and Egypt star Mo Salah sixth.

'An unbelievable feeling'

For all of Mbappe's scintillating play for his country and Paris Saint-Germain, it is Real Madrid star Modric who has broken more than a decade of Messi-Ronaldo dominance.

"It's an unbelievable feeling," said Modric, who helped Real win a third-straight Champions League in May before guiding Croatia to the World Cup final in July, its best ever performance at the tournament.

"It's a big pleasure to be here among all these players."

Since Brazilian Kaka was crowned the world's best player in 2007, Messi and Ronaldo have won the Ballon d'Or a record five times each -- no one else has won the award more than three times.

Modric also won the Best FIFA men's player award earlier this year and becomes only the fourth player to win football's two biggest individual prizes in the same year, following Bobby Charlton (1966), Johan Cruyff (1974) and Paolo Rossi (1982).

Central to Croatia's rise

Modric's journey to picking up football's highest individual honor is an improbable one.

Growing up during the Balkans war, his father joined the Croatian army, while his grandfather was shot by Croatian Serb rebels and his house was burned down, forcing the family to flee to the Adriatic coast.

The midfielder has been central to his country's recent rise, which now sees Croatia ranked the fourth in FIFA's rankings.

The Ballon d'Or dates back to 1956. At first only incorporating European players, in 2007 was opened up to include ever player in the world.

Under the current format, the list of nominees is drawn up by weekly magazine France Football, with journalists from around the world voting on the final winner.

EU adopts plan on bank money laundering, may delay reforms      Cache   Translate Page
European Union finance ministers on Tuesday adopted a plan to enhance the bloc's defences against money laundering at banks, but the move could slow a legislative reform on banking supervision. The action plan is meant to be the EU response to high-profile cases of alleged money laundering at banks in several EU states, including Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Spain, the Netherlands, Britain and Cyprus. Ministers agreed there was a "need to strengthen the effectiveness of the current framework" to counter money laundering, and proposed some non-legislative actions to implement in coming months. But the plan did not include any recommendation for legislative changes. Nor did it address calls from the European Central Bank to set up an EU-wide agency to counter money laundering. The plan could also delay proposed reforms of money-laundering supervision from the European Commission in September, because ministers first want to assess the recent cases of financial

FREDDY CRICIEN Discusses MADBALL's Guitarist Situation      Cache   Translate Page
MADBALL vocalist Freddy Cricien has spoken out about the band's guitarist situation, more than a year after the group parted ways with longtime axeman Brian "Mitts" Daniels. At the time, the New York hardcore veterans called the split "a very hard and heartbreaking decision for all involved." MADBALL's latest studio album, "For The Cause", saw the return of guitarist Matt Henderson, who laid down the guitar tracks in the studio but has not joined the band on tour. Speaking to Metal Underground on November 30 in Bristol, England, Freddy said (see video below): "Our current situation is we have Dom [Dominik Stammen] — he's from a band called BORN FROM PAIN. He's German, actually, and they're sort of a Dutch/German hybrid, 'cause Rob [Franssen], the singer, is from Holland. And some of the rest of the guys are from Germany. They've been around a long time — they've been around a good, long while, and they're a very, very strong presence for European hardcore, for sure. But they also happen to be our friends, and they also happen to work closely with us. Like, Rob tour manages for me for the last 10 years and Dom has worked with us as a guitar stage manager. So, just naturally, Dom came and jumped in on the European stuff. And then, as of recently, we have a guy named Mike, who's out of New Jersey, who's helping us out in the States. So right now we have two guys that are solid people and solid, solid guitar players. We're kind of lucky. And eventually we'll settle on someone permanently." Asked if MADBALL has anyone in mind for a possible "permanent" replacement for Mitts, Freddy said: "It'll probably be one of those two guys. But more than likely… Dom's just got too much on his plate. So it's gonna either be the other guy, or another guy." "For The Cause" was released on June 15 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2014's "Hardcore Lives" was co-produced by Tim Armstrong (RANCID), who also makes a guest appearance on the song "The Fog". It was mixed and mastered by renowned producer Tue Madsen (MESHUGGAH, THE HAUNTED, SICK OF IT ALL) at Antfarm Studios in Denmark.

'It doesn't matter if migrants shipped to island are criminals, they still have human rights'      Cache   Translate Page
Denmark is set to send deported criminals and convicted asylum seekers on a deserted island off its coast. The policy forms part of a draft budget agreement between the government and right-wing populists the Danish People's Party (DPP). DPP tweeted a video and said: "Expelled, criminal aliens have nothing to in Denmark. Anders Primdahl Vistisen, a Danish MEP from the People's Party, said that the policy would only touch people who were convicted of an offence and had endured long prison sentences in Denmark so "they'll only have to stay there until they can return to their country of origin". He deemed it a "good solution to a delicate problem". But Dharmendra Kanani, Director of Strategy for the think-tank Friends of Europe, countered that view. "Seeing the cartoon and listening to some of the rhetoric coming out of the political party reminds you of the rhetoric a hundred years ago (at the start of WWI) and we should fear what is taking place. "It's like the genie is out of the bottle and it's everyone's game. Hungary and Poland what they with refugees and asylum seekers. Now Denmark is saying: 'It's okay to ferry people off to an island'." For Kanani, it doesn't matter if these are criminals that are being shipped to the island. "That doesn't mean they don't have any human rights," he added.

I have no idea who you are but thanks for getting angry by my comment you're cute This response is to help you understand sarcasm and there will be no additional rebuttal on my end to you. <b>1.</b> the comment about Europeans failure to evolve is because they refer to those of us of African descent as being brutes yet they continue to repeat history.... slavery, concentration camps etc <b>2. </b>Buck Island comment deals with the fact that after all these centuries their methods haven't changed. They're still ostracizing those that are different. <b>3.</b> The tear gas comment is because Führer Adolf Hitler tear gassed his Jewish neighbors to President Donald Trump tear gassing the South Americans crossing the border into Texas. So that's why I said maybe we should be happy that the Danes aren't tear gassing these folks... at least that may be some progress, no? <b>4. </b>Lastly, Guvnah Mapp spent millions of dollars and an entire year feting the Danes and trying to convince us of how great they are. The Danes that came said they didn't even know they owned slaves and we spent money out of our treasury to thank them for......no one is quite sure.

Crazy that centuries later the Europeans prove that they cannot evolve That's what they did to us (of African descent) they shipped us to Buck Island (almost every Caribbean island/nation has a Buck for that very reason) We should probably be happy that there's no tear gas involved? Maybe Mapp can spend millions more on feting these folks before he departs

Even Low-Dose Contraceptives Slightly Increase Breast Cancer Risk      Cache   Translate Page
It's long been known that hormonal contraception, like any medicine, carries some risks. But doctors and women have hoped that the newer generations of low-dose contraceptive pills, IUDs and implants eliminated the breast cancer risk of earlier, higher-dose formulations. Now a big study from Denmark suggests the elevated risk of getting breast cancer — while still very small for women in their teens, 20s and 30s – holds true for these low-dose methods, too. In the research published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine , a team of scientists studied 1.8 million women between the ages of 15 and 49. They were looking to see what happened over a stretch of nearly 11 years among women who used hormonal birth control — usually a combination of estrogen and progestin — versus women who relied on non-hormonal contraceptive methods, such as a condom, diaphragm or copper IUD. Unlike most previous research, this study didn't just track the effect of birth control pills. Because their

Denmark to isolate unwanted migrants on remote island      Cache   Translate Page
COPENHAGEN — The Danish government plans to banish migrant criminals to a remote island in an inlet of the Baltic Sea. According to the New York Times, up to 100 foreign criminals and rejected asylum seekers living in Denmark who cannot be deported for legal reasons will be sent to a 17-acre island called Lindholm about three kilometers away from the mainland. Ferry services would allow the foreigners to leave the island. However, they would not operate around the clock and migrants would have to be back in the island before nightfall. Lindholm Island currently hosts a research center for contagious animal diseases. The plan was developed between Denmark's conservative coalition government and the right-wing Danish People's Party, whose support the government needs to pass legislation. The Danish People's Party celebrated the plan by posting a video on Twitter showing a brown man dressed in generic Middle Eastern clothes being dumped on the island. The Danish government will invest US$115 million in migrant housing facilities in Lindholm Island, which are projected to open in 2021. The rising number of migrants coming from the Middle East has divided Denmark. In August hundreds took to the streets to protest after the government enacted what is known as the 'burka ban.'
George Michael Tribute Show FASTLOVE Will Embark on an Arena Tour      Cache   Translate Page

In just over a year, Fastlove has become the world's leading show celebrating the incredible career of George Michael. Playing sold out shows across the UK through the whole of 2018, 2019 will see this it step into Arenas for the first time bringing with it a larger production and band worthy of one of the worlds greatest ever performers.

Already a smash hit in the West End with a run of shows at the Lyric Theatre, it has gone from strength to strength thrilling the public and critics with Encore Magazine calling it a "... a must see show", event specialist magazine Access All Areas saying it's "... hauntingly beautiful" and the North West End quite simply stating, "I think it's amazing!". In just over a year the show has sold over 300k tickets and due to huge demand, it has gone global with tours currently in Germany, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark and Holland with more to be announced in the coming months.

ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS - Also playing on the tour is Ed Barker, George's original saxophonist, Anton Stephans, a former backing singer to George Micheal, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, as well as an X-Factor finalist., and Colin Graham, Wham!'s incredible trumpet player.

Fastlove is also excited and proud to announce a partnership with The Terrence Higgins Trust (www.tht.org.uk). Following George's death, his rarely-publicised philanthropy became apparent with a number of charities, one being The Terrence Higgins Trust. It was important for James Taylor, CEO of Entertainers, the promoters of Fastlove, and Joseph, Fastlove's George, that the show honour this vital part of his legacy as much as the performance, as James explains...

"George Michael the musician and performer was there for all to see. Rightly he was regarded globally as one of the greatest pop stars of all time with an unmistakable voice, that was coupled perfectly with his incredible songwriting and performances, and with Joseph we have the world's leading George Michael tribute who has worked tirelessly with our production and engineering team to ensure the Fastlove show gives everyone the opportunity to remember and celebrate George's musical legacy.

"But as importantly, George used his position of fame for a greater good. For me, Joseph and everyone at our company, it was as important for us to continue to support causes that were important to him. We are delighted to be working with The Terrence Higgins Trust moving forward and for every ticket sold a donation will be made to them to continue the vital work that they do."

This is a show that celebrates everything about George Michael. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.seetickets.com/tour/fastlove-arena-tour.

I contacted James (the show's creator) immediately to tell him how much I loved it and that I wanted to be involved. It's taken a while, but we are finally here and I can't wait to get started on the special arena tour."

Unfortunately, they almost always end up being even more awful than you could have possibly imagined. That’s close to what happened to Dr. Sean Olive, Senior Fellow at Samsung-owned Harman International, and former president of the Audio Engineering Society. Olive was on a flight to Denmark and forgot his cable for his headphones (AKG’s new N700NC), so…

Black Hawk is a high-powered, pulse induction-based metal detector by OKM. It is one of the most efficient metal detector in the world as it can be used to detect targets at a greater depth in all types of soil than with any other detectors. Engineers continuously seek for improvements and were able to increase the size of the detection field, enabling a much deeper ground scanning. Black Hawk is used to detect precious metals such as gold nuggets, gold & silver jewelries, buried treasures and artifacts, and other precious ores- and can discriminate ferrous from non-ferrous metals. It also has an automatic ground balancing feature which reduces the effect of insignificant mineral contents of the soil being scanned. This powerful device detects a single nugget down to over 45cm deep and larger objects, such as boxes, to 8 meters.Visit our website: http://www.gold-master.com/en/black-hawk-32.aspxWatch user video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fcoMDEhTF8&feature=youtu.beFor inquiry, please contact us at: +971503010577/+971503010775 or e-mail us at info@gold-master.com

How Cnut Established Himself as Full King in England      Cache   Translate Page
By Annie Whitehead

Nearly one thousand years ago*, in November 1016, Cnut became king of England. How did he establish himself, a foreigner, with full authority?

For a contemporary account of the reign of Aethelred II, it is natural to look to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. In it, we find the closing years of the reign fraught with difficulties; those of fending off Danish raiders. It would be easy to agree with the Chronicler who, writing with hindsight, concludes that the slide towards Danish rule in England was inevitable. The payment of the Danegeld might at first sight seem like sheer folly, yet the policy appears in the short term to have worked.

Aethelred’s problem was that paying off one Viking force would not necessarily keep another one away from his shores. The Chronicler blames the military failure of the English on the cowardice of the military leaders. But while the squabble between Brihtric and Wulfnoth caused the loss of a hundred ships in 1009, we also know that Brihtnoth’s actions at the Battle of Maldon in 991 were those of courage and loyalty, that the army of 1009 left in 1010 without tribute, and that Aethelred was assured of the loyalty of Ulfcytel in East Anglia.

King Aethelred II

If things were not as bad before 1009 as the Chronicler would have us believe, there is little doubt that the armies of Swein Forkbeard (Cnut's father) widened any existing cracks in the morale of the English. Within a year, Swein had established himself as full king. But with his death in 1014, the Witan (king's council) sent to Normandy for Aethelred, and accepted him back as their king “if he would govern them more justly than before.” In the same year, Aethelred’s ravaging of Lindsey drove Cnut’s forces away. With further hindsight than the Chronicler had to offer, and perhaps with less bias, it is probably fair to say that it was far from inevitable that Cnut would succeed Aethelred as king of the English. We must, therefore, look elsewhere to find the reasons for his ultimate success.

It is hard to find a source which places emphasis on the military prowess of Cnut; most in fact, praise his piety and generosity to the Church. He was driven back to Denmark in 1014, and his reputation as a warrior must have suffered as a result. So his success in England must be attributed to something other than military superiority. While it might be rash to say that luck was on Cnut’s side, there is no doubt that circumstances helped him a great deal.

King Cnut

Before he left Denmark, Cnut was allowed by his brother King Harald to raise an army. He was fortunate to have the support of Eric of Hlathir, who had played a great part in the overthrow of Olaf Tryggvason, and who was to prove invaluable to Cnut in England. Before Cnut set sail, he was joined by Thorkell the Tall**. It is possible that Thorkell was seeking revenge for the death of his brother at the hands of the English, although it is possible, but not universally accepted among historians, that this revenge was sought earlier, and was, in fact, the reason for Thorkell’s invasion of England in 1009. Whatever his reason, Thorkell’s presence was a bonus for Cnut; he now had with him an accomplished warrior who knew England and the English.

The champion of English resistance was Aethelred’s son, Edmund Ironside. He had procured the support of the Danelaw by marrying the widow of Sigeferth, murdered by Eadric Streona (ealdorman of Mercia) probably at the behest of Aethelred. Cnut could not, therefore, be certain that the Danes in England would submit to him, and he landed in the south and began ravaging Wessex. Edmund and Eadric were raising forces, but they separated before they met the enemy. Eadric joined Cnut, and within four months Cnut was in firm control of Wessex and had the resources of the Mercian ealdormanry at his command.

Edmund Ironside

Cnut was aided elsewhere in England by Edmund’s troubles. His army in the Danelaw dispersed after demanding that the London militia should join them. Having lost his opportunity here, Edmund joined forces with Uhtred of Bamburgh. Cnut was quick to seize the chance he had been given and invaded the Danelaw, whence he proceeded towards Northumbria. Uhtred hurried back from the midlands and submitted to Cnut. Soon afterwards he was murdered, and Northumbria was left in the capable hands of Eric of Hlathir. Cnut was free now to turn his attention to the south east.

Edmund had joined his father in London, and when Aethelred died in 1016 the men of London chose Edmund as his successor. Within a few days of Aethelred’s death, however, a more representative assembly at Southampton swore fealty to Cnut in return for a promise of good government. Cnut was again helped by Eadric Streona’s amazing capacity to vacillate. He went over to Edmund’s side, and then took flight during the definitive Battle of Ashingdon. Cnut, as victor, came to terms with Edmund, and the result was a division of the kingdom. Edmund was given Wessex, and the rest of the country beyond the Thames Cnut took for himself. This was obviously a dangerous situation, in which conflict could easily flare up again. As Stenton pointed out, it imposed a divided allegiance on all those noblemen who held land in both Mercia and Wessex. [1] But circumstances once again favoured Cnut when, less than two months after the Battle of Ashingdon, Edmund Ironside died, and the West Saxons accepted Cnut as their king.

King of all England now, Cnut was by no means secure in his position. Good fortune and opportunity had helped him thus far; now he had to rely on his judgement and ability. He eliminated any chance that Richard of Normandy might support the claims of Aethelred’s children by Emma, by marrying the lady himself. For military rather than administrative reasons he divided the kingdom into four: Wessex he controlled himself, Eadric Streona was appointed to Mercia, East Anglia went to Thorkell, and Eric of Hlathir remained in Northumbria. In the same year, 1017, the atheling Eadwig was exiled and subsequently murdered. The Anglo-Saxon aristocracy also lost at least four of its prominent members, among them Eadric Streona. ('Streona' means 'The Grasper' or the 'Acquisitive' and the name first appeared in Hemming's Cartulary, an 11th-century manuscript, pictured below.)

Cnut set out to win the respect of the English church, and in this he was successful, being fully prepared to accept the traditional responsibility of being an agent of God with the duty to protect his people. He claimed to be occupying a throne to which he had been chosen at Gainsborough in 1014, and at Southampton in 1016. Though in reality much was changed during his reign, Cnut sought to establish himself by emphasising the importance of continuity. There was not such a large scale change in land ownership as was to occur in 1066, nor was there a great change in the personnel within the leadership of the Church. Archbishop Wulfstan drew up Cnut’s lawcodes drawing on those he’d written for Aethelred. The lawcodes themselves stressed continuity; very little in them was new.

Cnut (top centre)

Before the end of 1017, with Eadric Streona dead, and the alliance with Normandy secured, Cnut dismissed his fleet, retaining only forty ships. Its dismissal showed that henceforth he intended to rule as the chosen king of the English. At a council at Oxford it was agreed that the laws of Edgar (Aethelred's father, whose reign of 959 to 975 was already beginning to be looked upon as a golden age) should be observed.

In 1018 the military rule was relaxed. Two earldoms were re-established in Wessex, and in Mercia the earldoms of Herefordshire and Worcestershire were re-established. Stenton says that it was then that Cnut's reign began in earnest. [2] But throughout his reign the presence of the huscarls (housecarls) and the distribution of the heregeld (military tax) to them made it difficult for the English to forget that they were being ruled by a conquering alien king. There is no doubt though that by this point Cnut had established himself, for afterwards he felt sufficiently secure to leave the country in four separate expeditions to the north.

Cnut had invaded a vulnerable country in 1015, a country which was war-torn and weary. There were no clear dividing lines of loyalty; Edmund's army included Danes, Cnut’s included Englishmen. There can be no doubt that Cnut benefited considerably from the untrustworthiness of Eadric Streona, and from the dispersal of Edmund’s army in the Danelaw. For Cnut, the death of Edmund Ironside was nothing short of a blessing. Thereafter, his success rested on the fact that he did not conspicuously behave as a conqueror, stressing the importance of continuity, and keeping to the path that the pious King Edgar had trodden.

King Edgar

This emphasis must have taken attention away from the changes  his reign brought about. Keeping his military forces for less than a year Cnut reduced feeling among the English that they were a conquered people. Cnut made good use of his opportunities. By 1018 he had successfully established himself as full king of the English.

La MaMa Announces THE SHELL-SHOCKED NUT      Cache   Translate Page

From December 20 to 23, La MaMa Experimental Theater in association the GOH Productions will present the fourth annual production of East Village Dance Project's The Shell-Shocked Nut, an alternative Nutcracker set in the East Village, featuring an intergenerational cast of dancers and musicians. The piece is recommended for family audiences.

In this unconventional take on the seasonal staple, a wandering child and a war veteran suffering from PTSD take a magical voyage through the East Village. The pair of characters visit Tompkins Square Park, Economy Candy Store, Saint Mark's Place, and other iconic East Village landmarks while exploring themes of loss and recovery.

The New York Times said of the Shell-Shocked Nut, "The East Village has a "Nutcracker" of its own and, fittingly, it's on the gritty side." Time Out NY chose the production as a "Critics' Pick".

The Shell-Shocked Nut is conceived and directed by Martha Tornay and co-directed by Victoria Roberts-Wierzbowski. The pair also spearhead East Village Dance Project (EVDP), a dance development program that has offered after-school classes in ballet, modern and choreography in lower Manhattan since 1997.

The show first emerged as a studio showing in the weeks after Superstorm Sandy created as a means of brightening spirits after a challenging time for the community. "I started thinking about the cathartic process of working through a stressful situation," Tornay said.

The sister and daughter of war veterans, Tornay was inspired to use the structure of the Nutcracker to tell a more personal story of the effects of trauma, while maintaining the accessible, family-friendly nature of the traditional ballet.

In the years following its inception, the piece has grown to a full-scale production, featuring young students from the dance program alongside an array of professional performers, artists and guest choreographers from NYC and beyond. The 2018 Guest Artists include the New Mexico-based Aerial group, Project in Motion; Detroit-based dance artists Shaina and Bryan Baira; and New York City performers Delaney McDonough, Indah Walsh, Chloe London, Xiao Quan, Lauren Kravitz, Ellen Maynard and OBIE-winning scenic designer Donald Eastman.

Local composer Clare Farris created original pieces for the show, based off the Tchaikovsky score. The show also includes sections of Tchaikovsky in its unadulterated state, Massachusetts-based musician/composer Peter Jones, and contemporary tracks by Duke Ellington, David Lowery, Lynn Anderson, Aretha Franklin and more.

The Shell-Shocked Nut will run from Dec. 20-23, Thurs to Sat at 7PM; Sunday at 3PM. Tickets are $20 and $15 seniors, students and children 12 and under, and can be purchased online at lamama.org or at the Box Office: (212) 352-3101

FUNDING: The East Village Dance Project and this project are supported, in part with public funds from the National Endowment for the Arts; and with support from private donors.

GOH Productions' mission is embodied in our logo, GOH, the Japanese character meaning "working together under one roof." That definition informs all the organization's work - collaborative and expansive, stretching the sky to its fullest capacity. GOH began in 1979, during a time of fiscal cutbacks and political turmoil; and faces, head-on, the challenges of nurturing artworks and artistic collaboration, testing the boundaries and borders of all categories. GOH has a primary goal of working with experimental and interdisciplinary artists to clarify their artistic vision and to make possible the production of new works in a variety of genres and in a variety of global landscapes. In the mid-1970s, GOH was founded as 7 Loaves, Inc. a non-profit arts producing and presenting organization in the Lower East Side/East Village of New York City. In 1988 the organization's name was changed to GOH Productions (GOH), and Bonnie Sue Stein became its Artistic and Executive Director, a position she still holds. Stein works with directly with a number of performing artists on the creation and development of collaborative projects in the U.S. and with international partners.

La MaMa is dedicated to the artist and all aspects of the theatre. La MaMa's vision of nurturing new artists and new work remains as strong today as it was when Ellen Stewart first opened the doors in 1961. La MaMa has presented more than 5,000 productions by 150,000 artists of all nations, cultures, races, and identities. Cultural pluralism and ethnic diversity are inherent in the work created on our stages. Here, artists find a supportive environment for artistic exploration, and audiences are part of the development of an artist's work over time.

A recipient of the 2018 Regional Theater Tony Award, and more than 30 Obie Awards and dozens of Drama Desk, Bessie, and Villager Awards, La MaMa has been a creative home for thousands of artists, many of whom have made lasting contributions to the arts, including Blue Man Group, Peter Brook, Ping Chong, André DeShields, Harvey Fierstein, Tadeusz Kantor, Adrienne Kennedy, Diane Lane, Warren Leight, Michael Mayer, Bette Midler, Meredith Monk, Kazuo Ohno, David and Amy Sedaris, Julie Taymor, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

Denmark will send rejected asylum seekers to live on a remote island. Located in the freezing Baltic Sea, the island is currently home to animal research laboratories and crematoria.

"If you are unwanted in Danish society, you should not be a nuisance to ordinary Danes,” immigration minister Inger Støjberg wrote in a Facebook post on Friday. “They are undesirable in Denmark and they must feel it!”

Around 100 rejected asylum seekers and criminal immigrants will be sent to live there, and will be required to check in daily with authorities there, or face jail. Ferry service to the island is infrequent, and one of the boats serving the island is reportedly named the ‘Virus’, a reference to the contagious animal disease research center currently occupying the island.

The plan was agreed upon by Denmark’s ruling centrist Venstre party, and the more right-wing Danish People’s Party, as part of annual budget negotiations.

While Venstre may have been looking for votes to secure its budget plan, the People’s Party is looking to take the hardest line on immigration.

“We’re going to minimize the number of ferry departures as much as at all possible,” party spokesman Martin Henriksen told TV2. “We’re going to make it as cumbersome and expensive as possible.”

Experiencing the same influx of refugees and migrants as its Scandinavian neighbors since 2015, Denmark’s government has adopted harsh measures to push unwanted arrivals out. Rejected asylum seekers or migrants with criminal records are held in emergency accommodation, where they live on a pittance, or are deported if possible.

4 Negara Ini Tempat Sembunyi Teraman Saat Perang Dunia III Pecah pada 2019?      Cache   Translate Page

1. Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein (AFP)#source%3Dgooglier%2Ecom#https%3A%2F%2Fgooglier%2Ecom%2Fpage%2F%2F10000

Press Releases: Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook With Traveling Press      Cache   Translate Page
Special Briefing
Brian Hook
Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary of State and Special Representative for Iran
Brussels, Belgium
December 4, 2018

MR HOOK: (In progress.) We discussed Iran’s missile testing, Iran’s missile proliferation, and I encouraged the European Union to make progress on missile proliferation, and there’s many different ways you can do that. So we had a very good discussion about that. It’s – even if one stipulates that Iran is in compliance with the deal, one --

QUESTION: Do you stipulate that, by the way?

MR HOOK: There’s nothing to suggest they’re not in compliance.

QUESTION: Okay.

MR HOOK: The IAEA has been – so even if you stipulate that Iran is in compliance with the deal, that should not be – the deal should not be an obstacle to addressing missile testing and proliferation by the Iranian regime. It’s important that we not – the Iran nuclear deal is a modest and temporary nonproliferation plan of action. That can’t come at the expense of missile proliferation or other threats to peace and security. So it’s important that we address these threats comprehensively and not get sort of sidetracked by the Iran nuclear deal.

Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz again. The Islamic Republic of Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is an international waterway. The United States will continue to work with our partners to ensure frequent navigation and the free flow of commerce in international waterways.

There we are. We’re also very troubled – very troubled – by the discovery of Lebanese Hizballah tunnels inside of Israel’s territory. This is another example of Iran’s revolutionary foreign policy that is expansionist and destabilizing for the Middle East, when Iranian-backed Hizballah is digging tunnels into another country beneath their borders. So we condemn this activity and support Israel in its military operations to address these tunnels.

That’s it.

QUESTION: You – just on that last thing. You were in the meeting last night with the prime minister?

MR HOOK: No, it was a one-on-one meeting.

QUESTION: Oh, okay. Well, do you know anything about the meeting?

MR HOOK: Did we put out a statement on --

MODERATOR: We put out a readout.

QUESTION: Yeah, but it wasn’t very specific.

QUESTION: Nope.

QUESTION: Very interestingly. Highly coincidental that within hours of the meeting they launched this operation.

MODERATOR: You can ask the Secretary about that this evening.

MR HOOK: Yeah.

QUESTION: Okay.

MR HOOK: You should ask.

QUESTION: All right. Then can I ask you about the – on the Euros and missiles? So did they accept – are they on board with the premise that even though they’re still in the deal and they’re still giving sanctions relief, that they will go after missiles because they’re not included in the deal?

MR HOOK: I would say --

QUESTION: Yeah, you pivoted from saying “we discussed” to suddenly saying “we have to address” blah blah blah.

MR HOOK: Well, as you – since many of you covered the supplemental negotiations that we worked on, we discussed Iran’s missile testing and proliferation extensively. And we had reached agreement in the supplemental negotiations to include intercontinental ballistic missiles. We were not able to agree on the sunset clauses, but we had full agreement on missiles.

For 12 years – as I said yesterday on the plane, for 12 years the Security Council has said that Iran should – in various formulations – that Iran needs to stop testing and proliferating ballistic missiles. This is a policy of the – this is a global consensus. I don’t hear anyone in the world arguing that Iran should continue testing and proliferating ballistic missiles.

QUESTION: Well, Iran.

MR HOOK: (Laughter.) Great point.

QUESTION: You do hear that, right? Or are you just --

MR HOOK: No, we’ve heard that. Their actions speak louder than words. So there is a clear global consensus that Iran needs to stop, and Iran continues to defy the UN Security Council and defy the international community on this. And I think that there is, and as Iran – Iran has not diminished its missiles tests during the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal, and I think the world is increasingly recognizing this.

QUESTION: Right. Okay. I just --

MR HOOK: So it’s easier to address the threat because Iran continues to defy --

QUESTION: Let me – I’ll stop at this – but let me just – you said that the deal should not be an obstacle to dealing with missiles.

MR HOOK: Correct.

QUESTION: But do the Europeans see it that way, too? I mean, or are they concerned that if they impose sanctions on something or someone for missiles who are covered under the relief from the deal, that that would be a violation on their part?

MR HOOK: I would put it this way, that the Iran nuclear deal focuses on one threat that Iran presents to international peace and security, the nuclear piece. The theory of the case is that you can’t take on too much, so you can only focus on one threat to get a deal done. The people that negotiated the deal never once said that this will prevent nations from addressing the nonnuclear threats.

QUESTION: No, I know. That was a selling point for it.

MR HOOK: That’s a selling point. Since Iran has expanded its threats to peace and security in every category during the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal, it is incumbent upon all nations – especially those that still support the deal – to not ignore the escalating threats. And no threat is more escalatory in recent months than the missile proliferation – year – months and years.

QUESTION: Brian, they blame you, basically – the Europeans – because by getting out – by ignoring the deal, by getting out of the deal, by breaking the deal that the United States signed --

MR HOOK: There were no signatures.

QUESTION: Well, the United States agreed to --

MR HOOK: In the last administration.

QUESTION: In the last administration.

MR HOOK: It was a political commitment, which the Obama administration, in a letter to Congress – that is a political commitment. It’s not a treaty; it’s not legally binding.

QUESTION: By getting out of the deal that the United States agreed to --

MR HOOK: That’s fair. Well, that President Obama agreed to --

QUESTION: That President Obama agreed to on behalf of the United States.

QUESTION: He was elected president.

MR HOOK: Yes, I know that, right. It’s not a treaty, though, right. Keep going.

QUESTION: -- that --

MR HOOK: This is a long wind up.

QUESTION: Well, I didn’t mean it to be.

QUESTION: And you’ll hit it out of the park, I’m sure.

QUESTION: That you have imposed on Iran penalties, obviously, that were not agreed to under the deal, and thus the Europeans do not see it as possible or in their interests or in the interests of surviving the deal to impose more penalties outside of the deal for such things as ballistic missiles. Yes, they were willing to do it, as long as you stayed in the deal. That was the point of the supplemental agreement. By getting out of the deal, you have prevented the world from really addressing Iran’s ballistic missile program. What – that’s their point of view. How do you respond to that? This is basically your fault.

MR HOOK: Yeah, during the – from the time the JCPOA – during its negotiation and implementation, up until the time the President left the deal in May, Iran did not diminish its missile testing. And during that same period, no nation – the EU and other parties to the deal did not take action against Iran’s missile program. So the neglect of this threat predates the President leaving the Iran deal.

Now that we are out of the deal, we have a – much more freedom to use the diplomatic tools at our disposal to address the entire range of Iran’s threats. We think that is the correct posture. We have more freedom to address their threats, and it puts us in a position of leverage to try to get an even better deal.

Yeah.

QUESTION: Brian, yesterday you said we would like to see the European Union move sanctions that target Iran’s missile program. Did you, in your meetings today, see any indication that the EU was any closer than it was yesterday to moving on sanctions that target Iran’s missile program?

MR HOOK: I think there is a growing appreciation among European nations, given Iran’s expanding missile program and the bomb plot in Paris, Denmark, the assassination plot, the smuggling of heroin through Italy – that’s just in recent sort of memory. That doesn’t also account for Iran giving Assad billions, which then of course is one of the factors that creates a refugee crisis that deeply affects Europe. So I think the Europeans increasingly understand that it is possible to address these threats that exist outside of the nuclear deal. The nuclear deal, from its inception in the last administration, was never meant to be an obstacle to address any other threat that Iran presents to peace and security.

QUESTION: Yes, but did you see any indication in your meetings today --

MR HOOK: We are making progress, yeah. We’re making progress.

Yeah.

QUESTION: Okay. So at UNGA in New York, the President told me – when I asked him how progress was being made in regards to the Europeans on the Iran nuclear deal – he suggested that we as America and our safety and structure didn’t even rely on Europeans, per se, to cripple Iran’s economy. And we are seeing it have a big effect.

MR HOOK: Yeah.

QUESTION: So in saying that, how important is it really to get our European allies to join us in this effort?

MR HOOK: Given the role of the United States in the global financial system, it gives us enormous diplomatic leverage to address threats to peace and security. We are doing that in the context of the Iranian regime, and we have been very pleased with the success we have had since May to impose economic costs on Iran for being an outlaw regime. We are very well positioned to deepen Iran’s economic isolation until Iran decides to change its behavior and starts behaving like a normal country and not like a revolutionary regime. As Kissinger said, Iran needs to decide whether it’s a cause or a country.

Yeah.

QUESTION: I wanted to go back to what you mentioned at the top about sanctions. Can you get into a little bit more about the nature of the conversations and pushback from Europeans who don’t really want to go along with a lot of these sanctions? And you did the oil waivers, that kind of thing. I’m just kind of curious to get a sense of where their heads are at in terms of following the U.S.

MR HOOK: Following the U.S. on?

QUESTION: On sanctions. On the reimposition that --

MR HOOK: Oh. Well, what we found is for us, for our sanctions, they affect corporations. And we have seen only full compliance by European corporations who are connected to the international financial system. And we just don’t see any daylight between the United States and European companies.

QUESTION: However, there is with the governments.

MR HOOK: The governments who are still in the deal, yes, we have a disagreement over the efficacy of the Iran nuclear deal, and we didn’t think – we think it’s a deficient deal that needs to be replaced by a new and better deal. While we are out of the deal, it allows us to do everything we can to starve the militias that Iran funds and to start choking its revenues for money to Assad, money to Hizballah, Hamas, the Houthis, cyberattacks, threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, all that.

QUESTION: At the top, you said that during – you said that during a supplemental agreement, you had full agreement on – supplemental talks, you had full agreement on ballistic missiles.

MR HOOK: To include ICBMs.

QUESTION: To --

MR HOOK: Yeah. I mean, ICBMs needed to be included in the – because ICBMs and a nuclear program always walk arm in arm. They’re never separate.

QUESTION: So was there an agreement on how to counteract the Iranian missile program in the spring? Did you have that piece in place and are the Europeans now declining to pursue that in this context?

MR HOOK: No. I would separate these things. I – just in the context of negotiating, seeking a supplemental agreement to address the three deficiencies that the President identified around its – we need a stronger inspections regime, we need ICBMs, and we need to have the elimination of the sunset clauses. Those are the three areas of focus. The President also asked for – it would be helpful if we could address these other areas around regional aggression and the other threats, which we talked about. We would spend half the day talking about the nuclear piece and the other half of the day talking about the non-nuclear threats. And this is what I’ve said for a long time: We share the same threat assessment. There is a difference of opinion about the Iran nuclear deal. In the context of just trying to address the deficiency of the ICBMs, we were able to get agreement that ICBMs need to be a part of it, but then we couldn’t get agreement on sunsets and so we’re out of the deal.

QUESTION: But does that mean – forgive me if I’m being dense here – does that mean that there’s a – you have – you’ve had agreement on two of these three areas in May. Was there --

MR HOOK: Yeah, I think as I’ve said --

QUESTION: Was there – is it on the shelf? It’s not being implemented now, even though you’d subsequently agreed on it earlier? (Inaudible.)

MR HOOK: No, it’s separate. No, it’s not – it’s not, it’s – I would separate what we’re talking about now with the supplemental agreement, and there’s a lot that’s – look, that ended in May. We have since had a number of developments since May on Iran’s missile program. On Thursday, when I was at Bolling and unveiling the new missiles that we found, the missile test on Saturday, and then the other incidents that have happened in Europe have created a new climate, I think, for us to make more progress on the non-nuclear issues.

QUESTION: Does that --

MR HOOK: Jessica? What?

QUESTION: I have a question on – so you mentioned that you – there are three main areas. Is this – when you announced you were leaving the deal in May, there were 12 concessions, which included regional interference. Have you dropped that?

MR HOOK: The what? The --

QUESTION: There were 12 – Pompeo --

QUESTION: There were 12.

MR HOOK: Yeah, the 12, yeah.

QUESTION: (Off-mike.)

QUESTION: That included not --

QUESTION: But now you’re talking about three.

QUESTION: -- interfering anymore in this.

QUESTION: Twelve and three.

QUESTION: And now you say that there are just three.

MR HOOK: No, no, no. You’ve got to separate the supplemental agreement from what everything that came after. I’m not – it’s – after the President left the deal, it put us in a position to announce a new Iran strategy. That includes no enrichment, a whole range of things. So those 12 is the comprehensive strategy that you need to apply in the case of Iran.

QUESTION: Would the U.S. be willing to enter into a new deal if it didn’t include regional interference?

MR HOOK: I’m not going to get into those hypotheticals.

QUESTION: Can I just ask you --

MR HOOK: We are seeking a comprehensive deal that addresses nukes, missiles, terrorism, everything in the Secretary’s 12 areas. When the prior – you have to remember, the President outlined the three areas well prior to – six months prior – more than six months prior to when Secretary Pompeo gave his speech.

QUESTION: You --

MS NAUERT: We’re going to have to wrap this up. Brian’s got another engagement, so --

QUESTION: You’ve correctly identified that ICBMs have been agreed to.

MR HOOK: Well, roughly. I mean, when I say agreed to, we have made – yeah.

QUESTION: Yeah, but look, so the Europeans were notoriously resistant on short and medium-range, but you do not seem to be – you seem to be pushing that as well. So in – are you saying that – when you say you think you’re making progress, are the Europeans willing to consider less than ICBM range missiles?

MR HOOK: I’m not going to get into the specifics of it, but we did have a medium – we had a couple of days ago the launch of a medium-range ballistic missile.

QUESTION: I know, but --

MR HOOK: And so I --

QUESTION: -- the Europeans, even before when you’re talking about when you had an agreement, weren’t agreeing on medium.

QUESTION: That’s true.

MR HOOK: I’m not going to get into the specifics of where we are now.

QUESTION: Can I quickly just ask you something --

MS NAUERT: You’re going to have to – wait, guys.

QUESTION: Wait, Michael -- Michael hasn’t asked –

QUESTION: (Off-mike.)

MS NAUERT: You’re going to have to be the last one, because Brian’s --

QUESTION: (Off-mike.)

QUESTION: Michael Birnbaum from The Washington Post in Brussels.

MS NAUERT: Brian’s already an hour – five minutes late (inaudible).

QUESTION: That’s all right, let me ask one more.

QUESTION: (Off-mike.)

MS NAUERT: Yeah, go ahead.

QUESTION: He hasn’t had a question. He hasn’t had one.

QUESTION: But it’s sort of outsider’s question, because I live here in Brussels. I spend all my time talking to European officials, not American ones. And there’s so much energy here that’s given in to thinking about SPV and thinking about ways to preserve the JCPOA, but basically to undermine the American attempt to blow up the deal. How are you making progress? Like, in what areas are you making progress when so much bandwidth here in Brussels and in Europe is devoted to undoing what the Trump administration has done? I’m trying to sort of square the circle a little bit. How do you have them try to undermine your decisions on the one hand and work with them on the other?

MR HOOK: I’m not sure what you’re – can you give me that question again? I’m not sure – you’re saying that --

QUESTION: Well, it seems like most --

MR HOOK: They don’t have enough bandwidth to do both at the same time?

QUESTION: It seems like most of their Iran focus is devoted to preserving the JCPOA, undermining your sort of measures on Iran. I’m just wondering how you can make progress on the one hand in pushing on all of these sort of supplemental issues while their --

MR HOOK: Because we --

QUESTION: -- main energetic focus seems to be on preserving the JCPOA.

MR HOOK: Because you can do both things at the same time. We share the same threat assessment. They’re still in the deal and so they have equities in the deal that they are managing. We don’t have those equities anymore. We do at the same time share the same threat assessment about Iran’s missile proliferation.

MS NAUERT: Okay.

MR HOOK: Got to get going?

MS NAUERT: Right, bye. Thanks, Brian.

MR HOOK: Okay, thank you, bye.

Infections May Raise The Risk Of Mental Illness In Children      Cache   Translate Page
Researchers have traced a connection between some infections and mental illnesses like schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder. New research from Denmark bolsters that connection. The study, published Thursday in JAMA Psychiatry , shows that a wide variety of infections, even common ones like bronchitis, are linked to a higher risk of many mental illnesses in children and adolescents. The findings support the idea that infections affect mental health, possibly by influencing the immune system. "This idea that activation of the body's immune inflammatory system as a causative factor in ... select mental illnesses is one that has really caught on," says Dr. Roger McIntyre , a professor of psychology and pharmacology at the University of Toronto, who wasn't involved in the study. "This study adds to that generally, but builds the case further in a compelling way." In the new study, the researchers gathered data on hospitalizations and prescription medications for the 1.1 million

Razer Blade Stealth updated with a refreshed design, 4K screen, and Windows Hell ...      Cache   Translate Page

Razer is updating one of its most recognizable laptops, the 13.3-inch Blade Stealth, with a new chassis and specs. The updated Blade Stealth can be configured as a full HD, battery-conscious laptop or a 4K touchscreen machine with discrete graphics. Ultimately, this is going to be Razer’s most portable and affordable laptop, putting it in direct competition with machines from Apple and Dell.

The big deal with the Stealth’s fall refresh is its changing footprint. At first glance, I thought the new Blade Stealth was smaller than the previous generation, until I placed them side by side. In reality, the 2.82-pound laptop is actually four-tenths of an inch thicker, with thinner 4.9mm bezels flanking the screen (which are 60 percent thinner than the last gen’s) that make it appear to have a smaller footprint. It also has a smaller power brick for charging over USB-C.

Razer revamped the Stealth’s speaker setup, with four Dolby Atmos tuned speakers (two more than before) on both sides of the keyboard. There’s also a larger windows Precision Touchpad than before, complete with native gesture support.

You might be getting slightly more for your money this year, too: the new Blade Stealth starts with a quad-core processor, but with the same $1,399 starting price. Previously, you’d only get two cores, and $1,499 would get you a quad-core chip.

The new Blade Stealth has an Intel Core i7-8565U quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz (Turbo Boost to 4.6GHz), Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics, 8GB RAM, a 1080p matte screen (with 100 percent sRGB coverage), and a slower 256GB SATA SSD.

If that’s not enough power, you can upgrade the Blade Stealth laptop to a 4K glossy touchscreen, a new 25-watt version of Nvidia’s MX150 discrete graphics chip that Razer claims is fast enough to play League or Fortnite (on lower settings) at 1080p or 4K, 16GB RAM, and a faster 512GB PCIe solid state drive. These upgrades push the Stealth’s price tag up to the $1,899 mark.

Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge

On its own, the Stealth isn’t a gaming laptop (even with the MX150 chip), but both models still have eGPU support. That’ll allow you to use an enclosure like Razer’s own Core dock to attach a desktop-class GPU over a Thunderbolt 3 connection, with four PCIe lanes capable of 40GBps data transfers.

Razer hasn’t retained the individual Chroma key backlighting we’ve seen in the advanced Blade 15 and the last-gen Stealth. Instead, Razer swapped it for the single-zone layout in the base Blade 15 in order to conserve battery life, which company reps claim is “up to 13 hours” on the base 1080p Stealth, or three hours more than previously claimed with the last-gen Stealth. We’ll see how that pans out when we review the new Stealth in the coming weeks.

The new Blade Stealth in matte FHD (left) and glossy 4K (right) screen configurations.

Another new hardware addition is the IR camera mounted at the top of the display that allows you to log in to the Blade Stealth using Windows Hello facial recognition. It’s been a heavily requested feature of mine on previous Blade laptops, so it’s great to see facial recognition finally making an appearance in their lineup.

The new Razer Blade Stealth launches today, starting at $1,399 fromRazer.com and select retailers in the US and Canada. It’s also coming soon to retailers in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.

UK's Stoops, Allen Receive SEC Honors      Cache   Translate Page
Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is the offensive player of the year and one of five members of the top-ranked Crimson Tide to earn first-team honors on The Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference team.

No. 16 Kentucky (No. 14 College Football Playoff ) has the SEC’s defensive player of the year in linebacker Josh Allen and the coach of the year in Mark Stoops. Vanderbilt running back and Illinois transfer Ke’Shawn Vaughn was named newcomer of the year.

Alabama (13-0) is the top seed in the College Football Playoff after overcoming Tagovailoa’s ankle injury to rally past Georgia 35-28 in the Southeastern Conference championship game Saturday. Kentucky (9-3) will face No. 13 Penn State (9-3, No. 12 CFP) in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 after posting its highest regular-season win total since 1977.

Tagovailoa, Allen and Mississippi wide receiver A.J. Brown were unanimous first-team selections.

Tagovailoa, one of the prime contenders for the Heisman Trophy, has thrown 37 touchdown passes with only four interceptions to rank second nationally in passing efficiency. He struggled in the SEC championship game before leaving in the second half with a high ankle sprain, though coach Nick Saban is hopeful the sophomore will be ready for the Dec. 29 Orange Bowl semifinal with No. 4 Oklahoma (12-1).

Allen has recorded 14 sacks to lead all Power Five players. Brown leads the SEC in catches (85) and yards receiving (1,320).

Vaughn has rushed for 1,001 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 6.95 yards per carry.

Alabama players joining Tagovailoa as first-team picks include offensive tackle Jonah Williams, center Ross Pierschbacher, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

The Crimson Tide had eight overall all-SEC selections to lead all teams. No. 6 Georgia (No. 5 CFP) had seven players earn all-SEC honors, though cornerback Deandre Baker was the Bulldogs’ only first-team selection.

A panel of 28 writers and broadcasters who cover the SEC voted on the AP all-conference team.

I would have said no two weeks ago, but the weather has been so awful that standing around watching the kids play cricket for three hours when it is windy and cold has me thinking that yes, it is a thing.

Are you in England? :D

What are your expectations for the upcoming test series against India. Could be a tough one for you.

I may as well be in England - last night was the first warm night of cricket this season. But it's 36c tomorrow, so I guess summer is here.

It is very, very difficult for visitors to win test series in Australia. India have never done it. The pitches here are bouncy and not great for India's spinners - while batting is tough against quicks if you are not used to the pace and bounce.

But if India are ever going to do it, it could be now. They have massive support in Melbourne and Sydney (big Indian communities), they have Kohli and a full strength squad, we're without Smith and Warner and our team has been struggling in all forms of the game. It could be a very close series. Commentators are giving India an even chance.

How's the cricket in Denmark? Good to see some interest from outside the Commonwealth.

Switzerland labels homophobia a criminal offence      Cache   Translate Page
The Swiss parliament has extended the scope of anti-racism laws to include discrimination based on sexual orientation. Intersexual (people born with male and female chromosones and/or sexual organs) and transgender people, on the other hand, will not enjoy the same level of protection. Both houses of parliament have now approved a motion to criminalise homophobia. Switzerland now joins the likes of France, Austria, the Netherlands and Denmark in taking criminal action against such discrimination. Homophobia can now be combated in the same way as racism. For example, a person who publicly declares that "all homos should be imprisoned in camps" can be prosecuted. This has not been the case so far. Homophobic bodily injuries can now also be properly recorded. This makes it possible to meet the demands of LGBTIQ organisations of keeping statistics on homophobia. Anyone who violates the law, either with racist or homophobic acts, can be sentenced to up to three years in prison. The ...
