Unfortunately for Jokić, Jaiden was already to the paint scoring the easy points before the Serbian superstar even knew what was happening thanks to a perfectly executed nutmeg.

Medeni meseci (Honeymoons) - Goran Paskaljević      Cache   Translate Page

A double header with similar themes, Honeymoons exposes the depth of dysfunction between traditional Balkan society and post Soviet global greed. In both, young love has no currency compared to dirty currency and freedom is a dream rather than a promise.
There are two weddings, one in Albania and the other in Serbia. Both are ostentatious affairs, given by men who have become rich on the back of the new order. It is not they, nor their arrogant acolytes, who matter so much as their underappreciated cousins and brothers, who remain true to their beliefs and, as a result, poor.

Rok and Vevo are Albanian peasants, living in a village that has no telephone. Three years ago their eldest son Ilir attempted to escape to Italy in a rubber boat, but was never heard of again. His fiancée Majilinda stays with them, as is the custom, but cannot entertain thoughts of another romance until Ilir’s fate has been confirmed. Nik, the younger son, loves her and plans to take her to Italy to start a new life. The family travel to Tirana by bus for the wedding of Rok’s brother’s daughter, where they are treated by the rowdier guests as a reminder of rural poverty’s deep rooted backwardness, while Nik uses family contacts to advance his plans for Majilinda.
In the second story, Marko is a budding cellist, living in Belgrade with Vera, to whom he is secretly married. He has been invited to an audition with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, but first they must go to her cousin’s wedding, where he meets her family, especially her father who remains embittered by his brother’s capitulation to the corrupt world of national politics. Again there is evidence of cultural snobbery against those who do not flaunt wealth as the 21st century beacon of Western-style success.
In the end, this is a film, not so much about the destruction of values in a materialistic world, but the meaning of freedom for the powerless. When the young couples reach Italian shores, they find themselves at the mercy of circumstance and border guards. Nothing, even that which appears greener on the other side, is what it seems. Disappointment may be the pale shadow of fulfilment when love fails, through no fault of its own, to conquer all.

…it’s the cinematic equivalent of a Theodore Dreiser novel, a social-justice story with its heart planted firmly in the right place but its author’s heavy hand too much in evidence. The interactions too often feel contrived, the dialogue is clumsily expository, and the camera keeps pushing into people’s faces to focus on welling tears or thousand-yard stares of despair.
The honeymoons of the ironic title are those of two young couples, one from a small town in Albania and the other from Belgrade. In typically literal-minded fashion, the screenplay underscores the similarities between these young innocents from warring cultures by sending each to a lavish family wedding before they try to escape to Western Europe. By the time they head out, you understand why they need to leave a place where murderous enmities divide people even within families, corruption runs rampant (even a bus driver expects a bribe), and nothing quite works the way it’s supposed to. So we root for these four underdeveloped but clearly sensitive and sympathetic young people—mournful Maylinda, gallant young Nick, musician Marko, and bravely smiling Vera—to get to a better place, even as we know that vicious thugs, cruel cops, opportunistic fellow refugees, and deterministic filmmakers will get between them and their freedom…

Red Star Belgrade secured their first-ever Champions League group stage win after two goals from towering striker Milan Pavkov helped the Serbian side to a memorable 2-0 home victory over a subdued Liverpool in Group C on Tuesday. Alisson could do nothing, however, as Marin swung in the corner and Pavkov rose above his markers to spark wild celebrations among the fervent 55,000 home crowd. The atmosphere reached fever pitch seven minutes later as Pavkov doubled the home side's advantage, rifling a screaming shot from 25 metres into the right corner of the net with Alisson well beaten. Liverpool, whose midfield struggled against their more aggressive opponents, lost possession on the halfway line and Pavkov shrugged off Georginio Wijnaldum to find the time and space to unleash an unstoppable shot. Mohamed Salah fired over the bar shortly afterwards to sum up a poor first half for Liverpool, with Daniel Sturridge also missing an early chance for the visitors when he volleyed over the bar from close range. Salah missed two good chances within a minute for Liverpool midway through the second half, forcing a good save from Red Star keeper Milan Borjan before he shaved the outside...
A record of duplicity and support for jihadis.      Cache   Translate Page
This is an excerpt from Elijah Magnier’s excellent article on America’s dishonorable involvement in Syria. Nothing about it has been on the up and up, starting with the CIA Annex in Benghazi and its connection to arming jihadi scum in Syria through Turkey:
During the seven years of war, the US never ever aimed for the stability of Syria nor did it work in harmony with the “interests of the people”. Νo Syrian institution gave the right and freedom to the US to speak on its behalf. US forces are blocking al-Tanf crossing in order to impoverish the Syrian population. The US has protected ISIS in the north-east enclave without destroying the jihadists. Not only that, ISIS attacked, imprisoned and killed dozens of the Kurds acting as US proxies in north-east Syria who allowed ISIS to move in and occupy areas around Hajin. When units of the Syria army looking to combat ISIS moved hundreds of meters east of the Euphrates into an ISIS-controlled area a few months ago, the US destroyed them, thereby supporting ISIS’s ongoing presence in the region.

The US establishment is in denial. It has not come to terms with its defeat in Iraq and Syria. Today, it is moving unilaterally against Iran to implement further sanctions that can certainly harm the Iranian economy. Nevertheless, the Americans will not be able to uproot the Iranian ideology that has taken root in Iraq and Syria precisely because of the failed US foreign policy and regime change strategy that was meant to protect its hegemony and dominance in the Middle East.[1]

Deda Cvetko has a pithy comment on the article playing on its title:
The fig leaf of fighting islamists went down in 1992, when US of A openly sided with mujahedeens and terrorists in Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia - and against indigenous Christians.
I never understood our taking the Muslim side in the Balkans. I could never let loose of the fact that Serbians helped many of our downed airmen reach safety in WWII, yet we repaid them with heavy and deliberate bombing of civilian targets in Serbia. Well, that falls under the category of “What have you done for me lately?” I suppose.

If Mr. Magnier is correct, and I think he is, the U.S. failed in Syria and is now flailing around with no decent objective in mind. Not that there was a decent one before. Draw your own conclusions as to whether there is any vitality in a policy aimed at dismemberment of a sovereign state without U.N. authorization and establishing a protectorate for the dregs of humanity in Idlib, with a strong dose of saber rattling and threats directed toward Iran. I’ve been no fan of that country in the past but Trump’s treatment of it is the absolute best way of ensuring that the current dispensation in Iran remains locked in concrete and that the political establishment there is provided irrefutable proof of irrational and eternal U.S. enmity.

Onward, it seems, into more U.S. confusion and killing in Syria.

Rafael Nadal withdraws from ATP finals      Cache   Translate Page

Rafael Nadal has pulled out of next week's season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London because he is still struggling with an abdominal injury.

The Spaniard missed last week's Paris Masters with the same problem and has taken advantage of his enforced layoff to have ankle surgery.

The 31-year-old, who was knocked off the No. 1 spot by Serbia's Novak Djokovic Monday, will be replaced by American John Isner at the Nov. 11-18 event at London's O2 Arena.

Writing on his Facebook page in Spanish, the Mallorcan said 2018 had been "a complicated year," which had been "very good" when he has been able to play "and in turn very bad" when it came to injuries.

His long-time press agent Benito Perez-Barbadillo emailed CNN a statement Monday saying Nadal was set to undergo surgery on a "free body bone" in his right ankle.

"An arthroscopy will be practiced to remove it and be able to be in perfect conditions for the beginning of next season," Nadal's doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro, of Clínica Mapfre de Medicina del Tenis, said in the statement.

His withdrawal is another blow for the organizer of the ATP Finals with two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray also missing with a long-term hip injury.

Nadal has played just nine events in 2018, winning five of them, including an historic 11th French Open title at Roland Garros for his 17th career grand slam.

He played his last match at the US Open in September, when he retired with a knee injury in the semifinal against Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro.

It was his second retirement in a major match after an upper leg injury forced him out of the Australian Open quarterfinal against Croatia's Marin Cilic at the start of the season.

Digital technology goes back to school      Cache   Translate Page
Many schools in Europe are embracing digital technology as a way to improve the learning experience in the classroom. Itaka school in the Spanish city of Seville is no different. Most of the students at the school now rely on portable electronic devices rather than on textbooks. Working in groups, the students use cloud-based documents to work on school projects both at home and in the classroom. Innovative subjects like robotics are also included in the curriculum. "As teenagers, we really like these technologies. I think this way we are more involved in our school assignments instead of just having books to read," says student Blanca Mu~noz Umpi'errez. Despite the trend towards digital technology in the classroom, questions remain over whether children are getting the most out of such innovative methods and devices. With experts estimating around 90 percent of jobs in the future will require digital skills, it is becoming increasingly important for schools to know more about how students, teachers and administrators interact with such technology. Carmen L'azaro, the head teacher at Itaka school says: "We've never really stopped to analyse how we're using it, and above all how we want to use it in the future. In other words, what is our action plan for the coming years?" But the ways in which we assess the effectiveness of digital technology in the classroom is changing. Itaka is one of 650 schools across Europe which have been testing a new online self-reflection tool, called SELFIE. It anonymously gathers the views of students, teachers and head teachers and produces a tailor-made report summarising the school's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to using technology for learning. Panagiotis Kampylis is SELFIE's project coordinator. "In SELFIE, we collect information based on a 360 degree approach - it's not just about infrastructure, devices, WiFi, etc. - it's also about how the technologies are used for teaching and learning, for the students' reports, for communication and so on." SELFIE has been developed by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre and Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, together with a panel of experts from across Europe. The tool is available to any school, not only so-called "digital champions". It is completely free, and is designed to be very easy to use. "SELFIE is a part of the European Commission's Digital Education Action Plan, and the target is to have one million users by the end of 2019 - namely school leaders, teachers and students from EU member states and the Western Balkan countries," Kampylis says. Officially launched at the end of October in a school in Warsaw, SELFIE is now available in 24 EU languages. The plan is to add more languages later, including Serbian, Russian, Georgian and Turkish. The tool helps schools to understand where they are in terms of digital education, without comparing them to others. Joanna Kielbasa, the head teacher at Klementyna Hoffmanowa High School in Warsaw says: "It's very important for a director to know how the school works at all levels - how the students are doing, what teachers think, how well equipped we are. I might think my school is at the top, but what if I'm wrong? The SELFIE tool helps check that." Given that every school is different, the SELFIE tool can also be customised by schools themselves. Did Fake News Win the Brazilian Election?
Posted Nov 03, 2018 by Eds.

As Brazil heads for a period of profound political instability, with Jair Bolsonaro, the rabid, homophobic politician, reiterating his determination to combat ‘the extremism of the left’ and left-wing movements equally determined to mobilise throughout the country to defend their right to exist, doubts are growing as the legitimacy of Bolsonaro’s election, given the huge role played by ‘fake news’, writes Sue Branford.

Just hours after the results of the Brazilian election were announced, a triumphant Steve Bannon, the man who helped engineer first the election of Donald Trump and now the victory of Jair Bolsonaro, could scarce control his exhilaration. “Had it not been for Facebook, Twitter and other social media, it would have been a hundred times more difficult for populism to triumph, because it wouldn’t have been able to overcome the apparatus of the traditional media”, he told a Brazilian newspaper. Bannon, who acted as an adviser to Bolsonaro during the electoral campaign, says he will be going to Brazil “frequently” after Bolsonaro takes office in January.

Moreover, Bannon intends to bring his expertise to Europe.  Together with the Belgian politician, Mischael Modrikamen, who helped found the extreme right-wing People’s Party (PP), he is organising the first summit of “The Movement” in Brussels in mid-January. According to Modrikamen, it will bring together 20-30 right-wing movements from Europe. Their first goal is to “promote to promote the populist-radical right, and economic nationalism, ahead of the EU parliament elections next May”.

If the Brazilian experience is any guide, this means that Europe can expect an avalanche of ‘fake news’. “Fake news’ reached millions of Brazilians, particularly through WhatsApp, which is used by 44% of the population to obtain their political information, according to a recent survey. So much ‘fake news’ is reaching voters that it must have affected the outcome of the election.

As Bolsonaro himself has little social media expertise, someone else is organising his campaign. Although no journalist has managed to infiltrate the Bolsonaro team–and we must be careful not to promote ‘fake news’ ourselves–it is possible that the campaign is being masterminded in the U.S.

In August  Bolsonaro’s son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is a close aide to his father, boasted on Instagram of meeting Steve Bannon, the man behind Trump’s victory. Later he said that Bannon had offered to help his father’s campaign: ‘The support involves internet tips, perhaps an analysis, interpreting data, this kind of thing’.

New lies from old videos

To give a recent example of ‘fake news’: on 15 October the fabricators circulated a video of Haddad stepping out of a yellow Ferrari. The account on which this could be viewed has now been taken down by YouTube ‘due to multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement’.

Underneath they had inserted a caption, subsequently deleted by YouTube after protests from the PT: ‘The candidate of the poor, arriving yesterday in the airport of Congonhas in São Paulo in a FERRARI that is worth RS$1,800,000 (£370,975)’. Yet the video dates from 2016 when Haddad was mayor of São Paulo and was given a ride in the car to Interlagos, the famous circuit where the Brazilian Grand Prix is held, where he went to inaugurate construction work carried out by his government.

The caption with the faked video was worded to stoke the widespread belief among Bolsonaro followers that, while PT politicians talk the talk of social justice, they are, in reality, are just as corrupt and scandalously wealthy as all other politicians from the Brazilian establishment.

How far does it reach?

Brazilian researchers have been trying to work out just how influential ‘fake news’ is. Earlier this year Agência Lupa, Brazil’s leading fact-checking agency, persuaded Facebook to work with them so they could check the veracity of postings and work out how many people had received ‘fake news’. They discovered that in August of this year, shortly before the first round of the elections, the top ten items of ‘fake news’ were shared 865,000 times.

In top place, with 238,000 shares and still circulating on social media, is a video showing a huge crowd of cheering people. The caption reads: “Rally in Campinas to support the recovery [from being stabbed] of President Jair Messias Bolsonaro”. Only it isn’t. The mass of people, many wearing green-and-yellow Brazil shirts, are supporting Brazil against Serbia in the World Cup. The idea is clearly to create the impression that the number of Bolsonaro supporters is increasing every day and becoming an overwhelming flood, carrying all before it.In second place, with 219,800 shares, is picture of a headline in the leading newspaper, O Globo:Jean WyllysThe headline states: ‘Jean Wyllis [one of Brazil’s most famous gay activist] accepts invitation from Haddad to be Minister of Education in an eventual Haddad government’. Except this isn’t true either: this invitation was never made.

The sophistication of this forgery shocked even experienced media professionals. It reproduced accurately the layout in the newspaper and bore the byline of a Globo journalist. Just one problem: the journalist doesn’t work for Globo any more and the headline is fabricated.

This forgery is feeding the prejudice against homosexuals voiced vociferously by Bolsonaro and shared by many of his supporters, and exacerbates the fear that a Haddad victory would lead to homosexuals taking over many key positions in government. A gay Minister of Education is to be particularly feared, for it would mean, they say, that Brazilian children would be encouraged to become gay.

In third place is another video, showing thousands of people in the streets:

The video itself is authentic, but in the version circulating on Facebook, subsequently removed, had the caption: ‘Look how Copacabana is now!!! “Elesim”!!! [“him-yes”, the pro-Bolsonaro slogan thought up as a retort to the anti-Bolsonaro slogan. “Elenão”, “him-no”]’. Except, again, it isn’t. The demo dates from a very different political moment, when there were thousands in the streets in March 2015. Again, the clear intention is to give the impression that pro-Bolsonaro marches have been far bigger than the anti-Bolsonaro ones, though this is not, in fact, the case.

A published ‘fact’ is an established fact

After these findings, Facebook now has third-party fact checkers trying to weed out disinformation. Facebook and Google are also collaborating on an initiative called Comprova, which is working with 24 Brazilian newsrooms to uncover and denounce ‘fake news’.

These are important advances but they only scratch at the surface of the problem, and in this world of instant news, a false fact, once published and distributed, is for many readers an established fact. The most influential social networking website in Brazil is WhatsApp (now owned by Facebook). It has a much bigger reach than Facebook, which has been falling in popularity, particularly among the young. And, according to Brazilian data experts, the efforts to clean up Facebook have been encouraging ‘fake news’ fabricators to concentrate more of their efforts on WhatsApp.

The volume of false news has been colossal: in the seven weeks before the first round of the election in early October, Agência Lupa, in a joint project with two Brazilian universities, collected and analysed posts in 347 WhatsApp chat groups. This was, they said, “just a small example of the estimated hundreds of thousands of that groups that millions of Brazilians use every day to gather information.” They said that it was particularly difficult to monitor because its conversations are encrypted.

From 100,000 political images they selected the 50 most widely shared. Of these, 28 of the 50 most shared images were ‘fake news’, either manipulated or used out of context to give a misleading message. Others had no factual backing. Only four were considered true.

It claims to be a picture of a young Dilma Rousseff beside a young Fidel Castro. The photo feeds into the allegation, widely made by Bolsonaro supporters, that the PT wants to turn Brazil into a communist state–a fear still very much alive in Brazil, even though there is little evidence to support it.

But, once again, this image is ‘fake news’. The original image (below) was manipulated to include a picture of the young Dilma Rousseff. It dates from 1959, when Dilma Rousseff was only 11 years old.

Rousseff ran as the PT candidate in the recent elections, attempting to win a seat in Senate for Minas Gerais state. Early polls had suggested she would win but, in the end, she was heavily defeated.  It is, of course, impossible to work out how much ‘fake news’ contributed to her surprise defeat.

As Agência Lupa has pointed out, Haddad supporters also distort news. One of the best-known examples was on 6 September, when Bolsonaro was stabbed. Left-wing militants shared a photo of Bolsonaro walking, smiling, into a hospital:Bolsonaro walking out of hospital (Photo Credit- RP) The militants claimed that Bolsonaro had not been stabbed at all but had invented the incident to garner sympathy from the electorate. But this photo was taken a few hours before the stabbing.

But, as the Agência Lupa studies have repeatedly confirmed, the overwhelming majority of ‘fake news’ items are shared by Bolsonaro supporters.

Some pictures are first published on  other platforms and then reproduced on WhatsApp. One of the nastiest was first circulated by Bolsonaro himself to his 1.7 million Twitter followers. He later deleted it. It is a photograph of heavily-armed men behind a placard bearing a death threat to Bolsonaro:Original photo- Evernote (F) Except that the placard was inserted. The original photo dates back to 2016 and is part of a blog about the increase in violence in Brazil. There is no placard:

The underlying message seems to be that PT militants are violent thugs who must be fought with violence.

Information experts are so worried about what is going they are calling on WhatsApp to follow the example of Facebook and take urgent action to cleanse their network of ‘fake news’. On 17 October the three Brazilians who compiled the report into WhatsApp published an article in the New York Times in which they wrote:

The alarming flow of distorted information can be mitigated. If WhatsApp changes some of its settings in Brazil from now until Election Day, Oct. 28, it can reduce the spread of lies. Moreover, these simple changes can be made without impinging on freedom of expression or invading users’ privacy.

But WhatsApp’s only response has been to state that it is too late for action.

A concerted attack

There is little doubt that the avalanche of ‘fake news’ is affecting the outcome of the election. Unlike the rather disjointed examples of falsified information from the PT, which seems to stem from despair and frustration, the ‘fake news’ from the Bolsonaro camp is coherent and co-ordinated.

It forms part of what the historian Virginia Fontes has called a concerted attack ‘in which they [Bolsonaro supporters] call for all those they disagree with and define as enemies to be beaten up, assassinated and to suffer all kinds of humiliation’.

Indeed, a scary VICE documentary, broadcast in August, interviewed an administrator of several pro-Bolosonaro WhatsApp groups who said that their material comes directly from Bolsonaro’s head office.

More ‘fake news’ is coming fast down the pipeline. According to an investigation carried out by the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, companies are paying for ‘packages’ of quick-fire anti-Haddad messages to launch on to WhatsApp in the last week of the electoral campaign (21-28 October). A package can cost up to R$12 million (£247,000).

The companies are allegedly buying up lists of WhatsApp users from digital companies and the aim is to send out hundreds of millions of messages. Many aspects of this operation are illegal, as under Brazilian law companies are not permitted to fund electoral campaigning nor can candidates buy up lists of voters from third parties.

On 19 October PT lawyers took out an action in Brazil’s Electoral Supreme Court (TSE) in an attempt to have Bolsonaro’s candidacy annulled because of the illegal operations that have been carried out.

As a result, the level of tension in the country has increased. Patrícia Campos Mello, the journalist who wrote the Folha article, is under constant attack by Bolsonaro fans. Bolsonaro himself hasn’t denied the story but has said that he can’t control what is happening. ‘Voluntary support is something that the PT doesn’t know about and doesn’t accept’, he counter-attacked on Twitter. ‘The PT isn’t being harmed by “fake news” but by the truth.’

He also had a go at the Folha newspaper. ‘It’s really sinking deeper and deeper into the mud’, he said. In its turn, the Folha consulted a lecturer in law, Renato Ribeiro de Almeida, who told them: ‘I can’t imagine a company donating a lot of money without telling the candidate. And, once he knows, he becomes responsible for what is happening.’

The level of abuse used by Bolsonaro’s followers against their opponents, and their willingness to resort to resort to whatever illegal trick they can muster to get their candidate elected, is unprecedented in recent Brazilian history. Virginia Fontes believes that what is happening in Brazil forms part of an international lurch to the right to crush the growing mass of disempowered in the world:

Totalitarian solutions with threats to exterminate the left don’t stem from the efficiency or inefficiency of the PT. What is behind this enormous wave of violence sweeping through Congress and Bolsonaro’s campaign is panic in the face of an enormous mass of workers totally deprived of their rights. They are contracted out, flexibilised, turned into nano-businessmen pushed to the outskirts of cities, where they live in a climate of violence. These people will soon demand their rights. It is for this reason that they [the ruling elite] need a Congress capable of annulling existing laws, like Temer has done and Bolsonaro has promised to do more of.

But, says Virginia Fontes, she is a historian and she knows that this situation cannot last for ever:

Organised repression against the left, against people of colour, women and homosexuals doesn’t have a future. The assassination of young people in the outskirts of cities can’t sustain governments. All this can appear bloody and terrible, but it will be defeated. The majority of workers are women. Brazilian inequality is a permanent fuse and it is only by confronting the causes of this inequality that it will be possible to get out of the perverse process in which we are trapped.

Belgrado, Serbia.

Spiritual Keys to Open Windows of Heaven and Receive God's Blessings      Cache   Translate Page

November is one of the most glorious months of the year! It is during this time of jubilant holidays we get to escape from work and school, and with Christmas bonuses we are encouraged to think about others and bless them instead of thinking only about ourselves. We see our favorite bell ringers and hear about all of the great work that is being done all around the world for those who are living without basic necessities. It is a joyous time for humanity to come together and celebrate life! And yet for some people, this time of the year has the opposite effect, and they are filled with dread because they shudder at any opportunity to give their money away. Instead of taking joy in the season of giving, they clench their fist tightly around their money and grumble. For these people, tithing is agony, giving is a veritable apocalypse and missions is Armageddon itself.

This kind of giving fear never seems to be connected to the lottery or casinos, both of which depend on people's faith not in God but in luck and chance. Instead of "agony" and "apocalypse," the world uses :"amazing," "astonishing," "awesome" and "awe-inspiring," power words to describe the $1 billion lottery jackpot. If the world can muster the faith to trust a gamble, why can't God's people trust Him to make good on His infinite promise to provide for their needs and to bless them abundantly?

The kingdom of God is full of people of light, love and life. We are the children of His promises, which include abundant living. His track record of faithfulness to carry out His Word stretches back millennia. And yet stinginess and the fear of lack is nothing new among people. Jesus addressed it head-on. He warns us, "You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money" (Luke 16:13b, NLT), and taught that "if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" (Luke 16:11, MEV). He got to the core of the matter when He declared, "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:21). Pastor Craig Groeschel puts it this way: "We give up things we love for things we love even more."

The truth is, God has money for anything He wants done, and He will channel that money through people. Trusting God with our tithing and giving opens up the windows of heaven to allow God to pour out blessings we cannot contain so that we can be a conduit for His provision. If we believe obedience to the Word of the living God can allow us to conquer any adversary; if we believe that being filled with the Holy Spirit and praying faith-filled prayers have the power to change nations, open up doors that no man can shut and release us to be God's witness to the ends of the world; and if we truly desire to live a life of epic, excellent and exciting power, we must understand what the Word of God has to say about giving. Then we must do what it tells us to do.

It is up to us to share with the world the power that can be gained through trusting Jesus Christ, God's Word and the Holy Spirit. But it is also up to us as leaders, servants, pastors and evangelists to correct people's misperceptions about giving. People may have chosen to block out the Word of God and all that it can offer their life simply because someone in the past presented the idea of tithing in a negative way. There are actual people in the world today who believe all God wants is their money and that there is nothing else for them in Jesus Christ or the church. We must be the ones to help eliminate this lie from the world and help people to understand the true nature and power of God's Word. God is not trying to take away from people; He is trying to open people up so He can bless their lives far beyond measure.

This season, it is also up to teach our congregations the importance of a heart-attitude that trusts God enough to love and bless those who are in need freely, as well as tithe into His kingdom. As we present the Word of God, let us be mindful of the power of our words and the effect they can have on people's perception of God. We must present tithing in appropriate terms. We must present salvation in appropriate ways. We must model for them that when we create a lifestyle of helping others to be blessed by God, He shall bless us in the process! As Proverbs 11:25b (NLT) says, "Those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed."

Be refreshed, be renewed and be blessed.

You are beautiful; I see Jesus in you.

Have an awesome week! {eoa}

Migrante spaccia, subito libero.

E uscendo li ha beatificati: “Wonderful people”, meravigliosi.
IN PRINCIPIO FU CL
I suoi percorsi tortuosi.

Tak tanggung-tanggung, tim asuhan Vladan Milojevic mampu menang dua gol tanpa balas lewat gol Pavkov.

Sementara gol kedua tercipta sangat indah. Setelah mampu melewati hadangan tiga pemain The Reds, Pavkov melepas tendangan keras dari luar kotak penalti yang tak mampu dihalau Alisson. Skor 2-0 bertahan hingga pertandingan berakhir.

Comment on Did Senate Republicans cave on Kavanaugh? by The Grundle King      Cache   Translate Page
And like a true simpleton, you copypasta his comment, without doing any further analysis. I looked at the human freedom index as it pertains to 'Homicide', as that is the most relevant to the discussion at hand. I'll qualify that remark by pointing out the fact that whilst you and Gerard bitch and whine about AR-15's and the people who own 20+ guns...you absolutely CANNOT escape the fact that the vast majority of homicides by firearm in the U.S. are NOT committed with AR-15s, and are NOT committed by gun collectors. So here's just a little sampling of some of those hotbeds of freedom that (somehow) ranked higher in the Human Freedom Index (HFI) when comparing only Homicide: - Kazakhstan - Rwanda - Turkey - Latvia - Liberia - Moldova - Armenia - Albania - Jordan - Cambodia - Vietnam - Oman - Serbia - Croatia Please. Choose one. Move there. Apparently genocides don't count as homicides. Strangely enough, I didn't find any sort of category for ranking that captured one's ability to arm themselves for purposes of self-defense. The 'Safety & Security' categories all provide ranks on how likely you are to be victimized, and with the exception of Homicide, the U.S. gets very high marks on all categories. Why I found the absence of legally-protected firearm ownership strange is that, if you lefties were able to achieve your wet dream of gun control, it wouldn't move the needle for the U.S. one tiny bit...because there's no HFI ranking for it. So we'd still be ranked 17th...and we'd probably be headed lower, because if you finally win that battle, I shudder to imagine what freedoms you'd go after next.

Tak tanggung-tanggung, tim asuhan Vladan Milojevic mampu menang dua gol tanpa balas lewat gol Pavkov.

Sementara gol kedua tercipta sangat indah. Setelah mampu melewati hadangan tiga pemain The Reds, Pavkov melepas tendangan keras dari luar kotak penalti yang tak mampu dihalau Alisson. Skor 2-0 bertahan hingga pertandingan berakhir.

Have an awesome week! {eoa}

Three Cats on Preseason National POY Watch Lists      Cache   Translate Page
Kentucky men's basketball players Keldon Johnson, PJ Washington and Reid Travis are among the early candidates for major national player of the year awards.

The trio is among 50 candidates for the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy, awarded annually to the national player of the year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, while Washington and Travis are among 20 players for the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I Player of the Year.

UK's three preseason candidates on the Naismith list are tied with Duke for the most representatives. The Southeastern Conference, with nine candidates, trails only the Atlantic Coast Conference. The two Wildcats on the NABC list of 20 is also tied for the most in the country.

A list of the Naismith midseason 30 team will be released Feb. 13, followed by 10 national semifinalists on March 4 and four finalists on March 19. The 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the Naismith Awards Brunch on April 7, during the Final Four in Minneapolis.

Anthony Davis, who collected virtually every major national player of the year award in 2012, is the lone Wildcat to win the Naismith Trophy in Kentucky's decorated history. No UK player has ever won the NABC award.

Travis is a graduate transfer who earned All-Pac 12 First Team honors at Stanford a season ago after averaging 19.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in all but one of his 35 games, including a career-high 33 points at Washington. He finished his decorated career with the Cardinal having become one of just three players in program history to amass at least 1,400 career points and 700 rebounds in fewer than 100 games played.

The 6-foot-8 big man averaged a double-double during UK's six exhibition games (including the Bahamas trip) with 12.8 points and a team-high 10.8 boards per game. He recorded double-doubles in the final three games, including a dominating 22-point, 14-rebound effort vs. Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday.

Washington is UK's leading returning scorer at 10.8 points and rebounder at 5.7 per game. He started in 30 of the 37 games he played in a season ago. He saved his best basketball for late in the season where he scored in double figures in 11 of the final 12 games of the season, averaging 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 57.6 percent from the floor. He played in all 40 minutes and posted a double-double vs. Kansas State in the Sweet 16 with 18 points and a career-high 15 boards to couple with a career-high-tying three steals.

The sophomore from Dallas led UK in scoring during the exhibition slate with 15.0 points per game, in addition to 7.2 rebounds per outing. Washington shot 60.4 percent from the floor, blocked 10 shots and totaled seven steals. In the final exhibition tune-up, he posted 20 points, six rebounds and three swats.

Johnson is one of the headliners of another highly-touted signing class. The 6-6 guard out of Oak Hill Academy (Va.) averaged 12.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting at a 53.8-percent clip during Kentucky's exhibition games. Perhaps his best game so far was a 16-point outing vs. Mega Bemax, a professional team from Serbia, in the Bahamas.

Ranked as high as No. 7 overall in the 2018 signing class, Johnson was selected to both the McDonald's All American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic in the spring. He was a consensus five-star prospect, was tabbed the Virginia Gatorade High School Player of the year and led his Boo Williams (Va.) AAU team to the semifinals of the Peach Jam.

Namun sayangnya, pemain Crvena Zvezda, Milan Pavkov mengejutkan Liverpool.

PSG bukan lawan sembarangan.

Trauma:

Most extreme horror of the foreign variety, for the past several years, has come with a heavy dose of political allegory. Western viewers, however, might be excused if they don't get the allegorical subtlety of movies like A Serbian Film, for instance. But Trauma writer-director Lucio Rojas won't let viewers off quite as easily, in this true endurance test of a movie. The extreme violence and subjugation on display delivers absolutely what the most prurient viewer wants, while the political subtext, blunt as it is for those unfamiliar with recent Chilean history, makes one think twice.

Norbert Preining: TeX Live/Debian updates 20181106      Cache   Translate Page

All around updates in the TeX Live on Debian world: Besides the usual shipment of macro and font packages, we have uploaded a new set of binaries checked out from current svn, as well as the latest and shiniest version of biber to complement the macro update of biblatex.

The version for the binary packages is 2018.20181104.49075 and is based on svn revision 49075. That means we get:

  • new dvisvgm version 2.6.1
  • several bugfixes in dvipdfmx
  • addition of dviout-util (previously only available on Windows): dvispc, chkdvifont
  • various security related bugfixes

In addition to that, in Debian we switched to the separately packaged version of teckit instead of using the one shipped in TeX Live.

The version of the macro/font packages is 2018.20181106-1 and contains the usual set of updated and new packages, see below for the complete list. One important – though not functional – update is the one of hyph-utf8, where the license of the UK English patterns has changed from a TeX like license statement (changes allowed with renaming clause) that generates again and again puzzlement in the Debian community (latest instance is bug 912557, which actually spread out into other packages). Thanks to the original authors and the team of hyph-utf8 these patterns are now finally under the MIT license.

Biber has been updated to 2.12-1 which is compatible with the version of biblatex in the current set of packages.

The packages are already included in the archive but might need a bit until arriving at your local mirror.

Please enjoy.

What This Election Is About - Paul Craig Roberts      Cache   Translate Page

I never cease to be amazed at the insouciance of Americans. Readers send me emails asking why I ever supported Trump when he was the Establishment’s candidate. If Trump was the Establishment’s candidate, why has the Establishment spent two years trying to destroy him?

The failure to put two and two together is extraordinary. Trump declared war on the Establishment throughout the presidential campaign and in his inaugural address.

As I wrote at the time, Trump vastly over-estimates the power of the president. He expected the Establishment, like his employees, to jump to his will, and he did not know Washington or who to appoint to support his goals. He has been totally defeated in his intention to normalize relations with Russia. Instead, we are faced with both Russia and China preparing for war.

In other words, the same outcome that Hillary would have achieved.

Trump has been so harassed by the Establishment that he is having trouble thinking straight. He was elected by “the deplorables” as the first non-Establishment candidate since when? You have to go back in history to find one. Perhaps Andrew Jackson. Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan were not the choice of the Democratic and Republican establishments, and the ruling establishments moved quickly to constrain both presidencies. The Democratic Establishment framed and removed both Carter’s budget director and chief of staff, depriving Carter of the kind of commitment he needed for his agenda. The Bush people that the Republican Establishment insisted be put in positions of power in the Reagan administration succeeded in blunting his reformist economic program and his determination to end the cold war. I fought both battles for Reagan, and I still have the bruises.

Trump is an outsider elected by “the deplorables” whose middle class jobs were offshored by America’s global corporations for the benefit only of the executives and large shareholders. A few people sold out the American middle class, which is shrinking away.

In the rest of the world, Trump’s true allies are the presidents of Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, the former president of Ecuador, and the former president of Honduras, who was overthrown by “America’s First Black President,” the consequences of which are the caravan moving toward the US border. The Establishment has succeeded in so confusing Trump that he has declared the Establishment’s war against the non-establishment leaders in Latin America.
So what is this midterm US election about?

It is about whether “the deplorables” have been brainwashed by the Establishment’s media whores and fail to support Trump in the House and Senate elections. If the Democrats, whose politics is Identity Politics, get the House and/or Senate, Trump will be completely impotent. The Establishment hopes to drive the lesson home to every future presidential candidate to never again appeal to the people over the vested interests of the Establishment.

In America democracy is a scam. The oligarchy rules, and the people, no matter how they suffer under the oligarch’s rule, must submit and accept. No more presidential candidates, please, who represent the people. This is the lesson that the Establishment hopes to teach the rabble in the midterm elections.

What should this election be about? If America had an independent media, the election would be about the dangerous situation created by Washington that has caused two militarily powerful countries to prepare for war with the US. This is the most serious development of my lifetime. Everything President Reagan worked for has been overthrown for the material interests of the power and profit of the military/security complex.

If America had an independent media, the election would be about the American police state that, based on the 9/11 lie, the weapons of mass destruction lie, the use of chemical weapons lie, the Iranian nukes lie, the Russian invasion of Ukraine lie, was accepted by the insouciant Americans.   Those responsible for these lies, which have caused massive war crimes, for which US administrations should be indicted, are feted and rich. The rest of us have experienced the loss of civil liberty and privacy. Any individual in the way of the police state is mowed down.

If America had an independent media, the election would be about the de-industrialization of the United States. Today, as this article makes clear—https://thesaker.is/the-pentagon-realised-what-it-has-done-the-chinese-put-the-us-army-on-its-knees/ —the offshoring of American manufacturing and industry has reduced the US military to dependence on Chinese suppliers.

And the Trump administration starts trouble with China!

If America had an independent media, the election would be about the 20 years of US and NATO/EU war crimes against Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Pakistan, Syria, and Yemen, and US and NATO support for Israel’s war crimes against the remnants of the Palestinian people, and US and NATO/EU support for the neo-nazi regime established by the Obama regime in Ukraine to commit war crimes against the breakaway Russian provinces, the populations of which refuse to become victims of Washington’s overthrow of the democratic elected Ukrainian government and installation by “America’s first black president” of a neo-nazi regime.

If America had an independent media, the election would be about the orchastrated demonization of Iran. The completely stupid dope that Trump appointed Secretary of State just declared (the utter fool should not be permitted to open his mouth) that Washington was going to drive Iran into the ground unless the government agreed to behave like a normal state.

What does Pompeo mean by a “normal state.” He means a state that takes its marching orders from Washington. Iran has not invaded any country. The government in power is the continuation of the government that overthrew the Shah, a dictator imposed on Iran by Washington when Washington and London overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran.

What the despicable Pompeo is really saying is that Iran has to go, because Iran, like Syria, is in the way of Israel’s expansion into southern Lebanon, because Iran and Syria supply the Hezbollah militia, which has twice defeated Israeli invasions of southern Lebanon. The vaunted Israeli army is only good for murdering women and children in the disarmed Gaza ghetto.

If America had an independent media, someone would ask Pompeo precisely what Iran is doing that warrants Washington unilaterally, in the face of opposition of the European, Russian, and Chinese signatures to the Iran Nuclear Agreement, pulling out of the agreement and imposing sanctions that no other country on the planet, except Israel, supports?

But, of course, America has no independent media. It has a collection of whores known as NPR, Washington Post, New York Times, CNN, MSCBS, Fox News, etc.

Without an honest and independent media, there is no accountability of government. America has no honest and independent media. Therefore, in America there is no accountability of government.

“The deplorables” are faced with a dilemma. The president they elected has been overcome by the establishment and cannot represent them. Instead, Trump gives his supporters warmonger John Bolton as National Security Advisor and warmonger Pompeo as US Secretary of State. He might as well have appointed Adolf Hitler. In fact, Hitler was a more reasonable person.

So again, America is having an election in which nothing of any importance is discussed.

Unless the American people rise up in armed rebellion, they are finished as a free people, and, of course, they cannot rise up in armed rebellion. Not so much because the police and every agency of the government has been militarized as because Jewish cultural Marxism and the Democratic Party’s Identity Policics have the American people disorganized and at one another’s throats. Cultural Marxism and Identity Politics have divided the American population into victims and victimizers. The true victimizers and true victims are not part of the picture, which is a construction that serves ideological agendas. It is not the oligarchy that is the victimizer, but the Trump-voting white male. It is not the multi-billionaires, but the marginalized former manufacturing and industrial work force that is the source of oppression. This former work force is black and white, but the Democratic Party’s Identity Politics has blacks and whites at each other’s throats.

My conclusion is that America is doomed. The people, with few exceptions, are not smart enough to continue to exist. Perhaps the outcome of the elections tomorrow will change my mind. If the vote goes to the Establishment, all is lost.
https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2018/11/05/what-this-election-is-about/

UPDATE: The people voted for the Democrat candidates in the House. This will strangle the Trump White House. Barring evidence of electronic voting machine fraud (which is possible) it seems that PCR was right - that the people are not savvy enough to support Trump's anti-globalist agenda.

While President Trump might have establishment backing to some degree, at least he appears to be a nationalist, which is what is needed to bring back the US industrial base and jobs.

Liverpool stunned by Crvena Zvezda in Champions League

DF-Xinhua Report

Crvena Zvezda (Red Star Belgrade) recorded a shock 2-0 win over Liverpool in matchday four of the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League here on Tuesday night, marking their first victory at this level since 1992.

In front of a partisan crowd at the Rajko Mitic stadium, the Serbian champions started the Group C clash well, with midfielder Marko Marin forcing a save from Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker in the 10th minute.

Several minutes later Marin was at the heart of the action again, sending a dangerous pass into the Liverpool area that Vujadin Savic was unable to convert. Daniel Sturridge also had a great chance for the visitors in the 17th minute, but squandered his effort from within the six-yard box.

The home side were rewarded for their early pressure in the 23rd minute, when Marin's corner was headed in by Milan Pavkov.

The Serbian striker sent the home fans into raptures just six minutes later, when Liverpool lost possession and Pavkov was allowed to run with the ball before unleashing a powerful shot from distance to make it 2-0 at half-time.

The second half saw Liverpool take the game to their opponents to try and reduce the deficit, but the hosts defended stoutly and some excellent goalkeeping from Milan Borjan saw Red Star over the line to record a famous victory against last season's Champions League finalists, who have now lost their last three away matches in the competition.

The result leaves Group C finely poised after four matches. After a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli sit top with 6 points, level on points with Liverpool but ahead of the English side on head-to-head results. The French champions sit third with 5 points, with Red Star just behind on 4 points.

The Serbian champions' next match will be away at Napoli on November 28, when Liverpool will face a tough match away at Paris Saint-Germain.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were trailing as early as the second minute when Luuk de Jong headed the Eredivisie giants in front, but two goals in the final 12 minutes from Harry Kane handed them a first win in Group B to all but end PSV's chances of progressing to the knockout stages.

Parkov double sinks wasteful Liverpool

Liverpool have opened the door in Group C of the UEFA Champions League after a dismal performance saw them lose 2-0 to Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.

Despite producing more than twice as many shots as their hosts, Jurgen Klopp's side failed to find the back of the net and were summarily punished by a quick-fire double from Milan Parkov in the 22nd and 26th minutes of the game.

Barcelona advance after emotional Malcolm goal

Malcolm Oliviera scored his first goal for Barcelona before Mauro Icardi drew level late in the match to earn Inter a point at home. With that draw, Barcelona sit on 10 points and have advanced to the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Footballer shoots at goal

Liverpool will look to firm their grip on top spot in Group C when they travel to Serbia for their UEFA Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp's side hold a one-point lead over Napoli at the midway point of the group stage, with two wins and one defeat from their opening three games.

The Reds kicked off their European adventure with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on matchday one, before being beaten 1-0 by the Azzurri a fortnight later.

They ran out convincing 4-0 victors over Zvezda at Anfield last time out, but will face a tricky return tie in the Serbian capital.

The champions of Serbia are bottom of the pool, having picked up just one point in three matches and shipping 10 goals in their last two outings.

Vladan Milojevic's troops made a good enough start after holding the Naples outfit to a goalless draw, but heavy defeats to PSG (6-1) and the Merseysiders have left their Champions League hopes in tatters.

Two of their final three encounters are at home, which Red Star will look to use to their advantage with the backing of a partisan crowd inside the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

In team news, Klopp welcomes back Naby Keita, who missed the last four games with a hamstring injury he sustained on international duty with Guinea.

Xherdan Shaqiri has stayed on Merseyside to avoid any potential unpleasantness with Serbian fans following his controversial goal celebration against their national team at the 2018 World Cup.

Jordan Henderson also misses out as he continues to work on his fitness after a hamstring problem, while Nathaniel Clyne is absent due to illness.
