World: Emergency Management Centre for Animal Health Annual Report      Cache   Translate Page
Source: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Country: Benin, Burundi, Cambodia, China, Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Japan, Kenya, Lao People's Democratic Republic (the), Malawi, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Thailand, Togo, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Viet Nam, World, Zambia

Animal health emergencies continue to erupt around the world at an ever-increasing pace. Increased global travel, human migration and informal trade of animals and animal products continue to intensify the risk of disease spread. Infectious diseases and other animal health threats have the potential to move rapidly within a country or around the world leading to severe socio-economic and public health consequences. For zoonoses that develop the ability for human to human transmission, an early response to an animal health emergency could prevent the next pandemic. As the demands continue to evolve for effective and efficient management of animal diseases, including emerging diseases and zoonoses, the Emergency Management Centre for Animal Health (EMC-AH) continues to evolve and keep pace with the global demands, adding value to Member States of FAO.

Building on the first eleven years of success, the Centre rebranded its platform in 2018 as EMC-AH, with the full support of the Crisis Management Centre for Animal Health Steering Committee in November 2017. The new name reflects the modernization of the platform and new way of working to better address the needs of the future. Further, the inaugural EMC-AH strategic action plan 2018 2022 released in June 2018 clearly states the vision, mission, and core functions of EMC AH for the coming five years with the aim of reducing the impact of animal health emergencies.

EMC AH’s annual report reflects EMC AH’s new way of working under its strategic action plan and addresses EMC AH performance and actions for the twelve-month period of November 2017-October 2018. During the reporting period, EMC AH contributed to strengthening resilience of livelihoods to animal health-related emergencies and zoonoses through the core pillars of its strategic action plan: preparedness, response, incident coordination, collaboration and resource mobilization. The annual report illustrates EMC-AH’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

FAO’s Member States have an ongoing need for a holistic and sustainable international platform that provides the necessary tools and interventions inclusive of animal health emergency management. EMC-AH strategic action plan requires a substantial commitment of resources to implement the full range of proposed activities, and EMC-AH must maintain key personnel essential to carry out its objectives and components of the 2016-2019 FAO Strategic Framework that addresses increased resilience of livelihoods to threats and crises (Strategic Programme five [SP5]).

As a joint platform of FAO’s Animal Health Service and Emergency Response and Resilience Team, and in close collaboration with related partners and networks, EMC-AH is appropriately positioned to provide renewed leadership, coordination and action for global animal health emergencies.

Spiritual Keys to Open Windows of Heaven and Receive God's Blessings      Cache   Translate Page

November is one of the most glorious months of the year! It is during this time of jubilant holidays we get to escape from work and school, and with Christmas bonuses we are encouraged to think about others and bless them instead of thinking only about ourselves. We see our favorite bell ringers and hear about all of the great work that is being done all around the world for those who are living without basic necessities. It is a joyous time for humanity to come together and celebrate life! And yet for some people, this time of the year has the opposite effect, and they are filled with dread because they shudder at any opportunity to give their money away. Instead of taking joy in the season of giving, they clench their fist tightly around their money and grumble. For these people, tithing is agony, giving is a veritable apocalypse and missions is Armageddon itself.

This kind of giving fear never seems to be connected to the lottery or casinos, both of which depend on people's faith not in God but in luck and chance. Instead of "agony" and "apocalypse," the world uses :"amazing," "astonishing," "awesome" and "awe-inspiring," power words to describe the $1 billion lottery jackpot. If the world can muster the faith to trust a gamble, why can't God's people trust Him to make good on His infinite promise to provide for their needs and to bless them abundantly?

The kingdom of God is full of people of light, love and life. We are the children of His promises, which include abundant living. His track record of faithfulness to carry out His Word stretches back millennia. And yet stinginess and the fear of lack is nothing new among people. Jesus addressed it head-on. He warns us, "You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money" (Luke 16:13b, NLT), and taught that "if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" (Luke 16:11, MEV). He got to the core of the matter when He declared, "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:21). Pastor Craig Groeschel puts it this way: "We give up things we love for things we love even more."

The truth is, God has money for anything He wants done, and He will channel that money through people. Trusting God with our tithing and giving opens up the windows of heaven to allow God to pour out blessings we cannot contain so that we can be a conduit for His provision. If we believe obedience to the Word of the living God can allow us to conquer any adversary; if we believe that being filled with the Holy Spirit and praying faith-filled prayers have the power to change nations, open up doors that no man can shut and release us to be God's witness to the ends of the world; and if we truly desire to live a life of epic, excellent and exciting power, we must understand what the Word of God has to say about giving. Then we must do what it tells us to do.

It is up to us to share with the world the power that can be gained through trusting Jesus Christ, God's Word and the Holy Spirit. But it is also up to us as leaders, servants, pastors and evangelists to correct people's misperceptions about giving. People may have chosen to block out the Word of God and all that it can offer their life simply because someone in the past presented the idea of tithing in a negative way. There are actual people in the world today who believe all God wants is their money and that there is nothing else for them in Jesus Christ or the church. We must be the ones to help eliminate this lie from the world and help people to understand the true nature and power of God's Word. God is not trying to take away from people; He is trying to open people up so He can bless their lives far beyond measure.

This season, it is also up to teach our congregations the importance of a heart-attitude that trusts God enough to love and bless those who are in need freely, as well as tithe into His kingdom. As we present the Word of God, let us be mindful of the power of our words and the effect they can have on people's perception of God. We must present tithing in appropriate terms. We must present salvation in appropriate ways. We must model for them that when we create a lifestyle of helping others to be blessed by God, He shall bless us in the process! As Proverbs 11:25b (NLT) says, "Those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed."

Be refreshed, be renewed and be blessed.

You are beautiful; I see Jesus in you.

Have an awesome week! {eoa}

Gardiens: El Kajoui (900), Bounou (990), Tagnaouti (90?)
Défenseurs: Da Costa (810), Saiss (196), Benatia (450), Hakimi (840), Dari (90?), El Hajjam (324), Mazraoui (1632)
Milieux: El Ahmadi (786), Ait Bennasser (619), Boussoufa (0), Belhanda (891), Fajr (1067), Harit (690), Boufal (372), Dirar (0), Hafidi (90?), Ziyech (1730)
Attaquants: Amrabet (541), Idrissi (1206), El Kaabi (893), Boutaib (926), Azaro (450)

Africa has over 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land but remains a major food importer. Even though agricultural production has grown by 130% over the past 30 years, with 18 Sub-Saharan countries halving the proportion of hungry people, more needs to be done. Soil is Africa’s most important natural resource: healthy and fertile soils are the cornerstones of food security.

Behavior-dependent cis regulation reveals genes and pathways associated with bower building in cichlid fishes.

Abstract
Many behaviors are associated with heritable genetic variation [Kendler and Greenspan (2006) Am J Psychiatry 163:1683-1694]. Genetic mapping has revealed genomic regions or, in a few cases, specific genes explaining part of this variation [Bendesky and Bargmann (2011) Nat Rev Gen 12:809-820]. However, the genetic basis of behavioral evolution remains unclear. Here we investigate the evolution of an innate extended phenotype, bower building, among cichlid fishes of Lake Malawi. Males build bowers of two types, pits or castles, to attract females for mating. We performed comparative genome-wide analyses of 20 bower-building species and found that these phenotypes have evolved multiple times with thousands of genetic variants strongly associated with this behavior, suggesting a polygenic architecture. Remarkably, F1 hybrids of a pit-digging and a castle-building species perform sequential construction of first a pit and then a castle bower. Analysis of brain gene expression in these hybrids showed that genes near behavior-associated variants display behavior-dependent allele-specific expression with preferential expression of the pit-digging species allele during pit digging and of the castle-building species allele during castle building. These genes are highly enriched for functions related to neurodevelopment and neural plasticity. Our results suggest that natural behaviors are associated with complex genetic architectures that alter behavior via cis-regulatory differences whose effects on gene expression are specific to the behavior itself.
