Oshane Thomas shows West Indies a glimpse of the future      Cache   Translate Page

Oshane Thomas has a habit. The habit of turning heads with his fierce pace. It has already hooked Chris Gayle, who picked him for Jamaica Tallawahs when he was 19, and Tom Moody, who has signed him up for his BPL team Rangpur Riders. On Sunday, it made a big impression on India's stand-in T20I captain Rohit Sharma, who was stunned by a 147kph inswinger.

On a sticky Kolkata evening, India seemed assured of victory, set a target of just 110. But on an Eden Gardens pitch where dew made the ball skid on much more than usual, Thomas cleaned up India's openers. He forced Rohit to inside-edge to the keeper before flattening the middle stump of Shikhar Dhawan, his bunny on this tour, as he left a gap between bat and pad while looking to drive one that swung back into him.

Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya repaired the early damage, but Thomas had done enough to earn Rohit's praise. "Oshane is a really exciting talent without doubt," Rohit said at the post-match presentation. "He's got good height, plus that jump he takes, if he bowls in the right areas, it won't be easy for any batsman in the world to counter that. He's really talented, and he also has the advantage of height which gives him the extra edge. I wish him the best in the future."

At 21, Thomas is the youngest fast bowler in the West Indies squad. He has had a very short career so far. But within that time, he has shown plenty of promise. He got into the West Indies team after finishing CPL 2018 as the tournament's highest wicket-taker among fast bowlers, and second-highest overall behind the legspinner Fawad Ahmed.

A dressing down of the West Indies; A way forward      Cache   Translate Page

Windies will have to play it by ear in their hunt to square their 3-match T20I series, when they partake in history at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow; this after losing the first match by 5 wickets to hosts India. If their indecisiveness on this tour is anything to go by, when narrative was available, Windies fans have the green light to panic. What would be a pleasant surprise on this tour, however, would be Windies batsmen giving their young and obviously savvy bowlers some backing.

To see a Windies batsman whose second nature is to rotate strike and play with “soft hands” is to be surprised; but it would be a welcomed addition if the coaching staff attempted to implement this strategy into this young West Indian team. Caribbean players are seen as naturally gifted boundary-hitters, which translates into the ability to take the game away from any opposition at an unsuspecting moment. If this Windies team, having that same ability, was now able to add heavy rotation of strike to their arsenal, imagine the results. In so doing, recall that as Khaleel Ahmed marked his run up to deliver the 18th over of Windies’ innings, the visitors had already soaked up 59 dot balls. Although, no one would be foolish enough to even think to suggest to the reigning and two-time World Champions to change their approach; as they prepare to head into a period of transition in the shortest format of the game, who in that dressing room will assume the responsibility to strive for perfection? The result would be West Indies entering a match 20/30 runs (minimum) better off before a ball is even bowled.

How realistic is this, given that the functionality of Windies’ learning curve, specifically in the shorter formats, is so steep? We have seen the Caribbean side, after being dismissed for a mere 153, largely in part to a swinging ball, come out playing away from their bodies immediately following that display to be dismissed for 104 in the 5th ODI. The lack of initiative and game awareness within this generation of West Indies players is indeed a cause for worry. Imagine there is a swinging ball, yet no one shows initiative; no one bats outside of their crease nor does anyone come across their stumps in attempts of negating the swing. Imagine batsmen being comfortable in allowing Jasprit Bumrah to storm in and have his way with no one trying to put him off–as if Bumrah needs any encouragement.

So far, there has been 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 1 T20I where the West Indian batsman have not been able to pick Kuldeep Yadav, Kudos to Kuldeep. However, how does Windies explain batsmen who aren’t able to pick the very length he is bowling;? West Indies’ in trouble.

Therefore, it must be reiterate that it is the small things such as; the decision making, the unwillingness to stick to the basics and the lack of appreciation for the nuances of the game which holds the Caribbean team back, so much so that there are:

  1. leg spinners by trade, to not flighting the ball
  2. batmen getting out in a spinners final over, going for big shots when there are sufficient overs remaining subsequent to that over
  3. bowling units watching the opposition bowlers working out a wicket and then coming out reworking it as if they were asleep in the dressing room and
  4. batsmen not inclined to drag their feet in Test matches, nearing lunch, to ensure minimum deliveries faced before the interval.

Until West Indies and their backroom becomes more aware, we will remain in deep, deep trouble.

If the West Indies team is not inclined to employ even these, the things which make cricket “cricket” ,then they are not playing the gentleman’s game. However, admirable (or even a relief) it was to see Powell finally utilize the sweep shot in the first T20I, it took the Jamaican five consecutive innings of underwhelming performances to add a spike to his personal learning curve. Having talent is one thing; a thing which we have found in abundance in likes of Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Oshane Thomas, Nicholas Pooran, Keemo Paul and Obed McCoy. However, nurturing these young men into the spine of a winning unit will require much more than just their respective talents. Pakistan, for instance, was not too long ago as inconsistent a team as the West Indies. It took an almost ‘obsessed’ (with perfection) man, a man demanding more, not just after games but during, from his charges to drag Pakistan up to the standard Sarfraz Ahmed demand for his nation. Who will drag Windies up?

Classic Play, An Echo in the Bone, Is a Chilling Performance

Poverty. Death. Race. Tradition. The Supernatural: all themes being explored in the 1974 Caribbean classic, An Echo in the Bone, written by Dennis Jones and directed by D. Amy Rose Forbes-Erickson.  The play, which hails from Jamaica, will be performed by the Kent State University Pan African Theatre Ensemble on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 7:00 pm.  The African Community Theatre is located in room 230 Oscar Ritchie Hall on Kent State University campus, 225 Terrace Drive, Kent, Ohio 44240.  A post-show discussion with members of the cast is scheduled following the performance and will stream on Facebook Live.

An Echo in the Bone is set in 1937 rural Jamaica and centers around the lives of a family still trapped in abject poverty – descendants of enslaved Africans who continue to work and live on a sugar plantation.  After the murder of the plantation owner, Mas’ Charles and the disappearance of Crew, the family patriarch, the family has an unforgettable experience during the nine night ceremony, a traditional African Jamaican ritual to usher departed loved ones to the afterlife.  In the play, the nine-night ceremony reveals what happened to Mas’ Charles through ritual spirit possession. Crew and the ancestors return to speak through the living: from enslaved ancestors on a slave ship in 1792, to Crew’s existence on a Jamaican sugar plantation in 1937.

An Echo in the Bone examines the burden of the greater crime: the murder of the white plantation owner, or the historic crime of slavery which led to his demise, and ultimately the family’s survival.

Tickets are free for Kent State University students, faculty and staff who show a valid KSU ID, general audiences will be admitted for $10.  Group reservations are by special arrangements and on a first come, first served basis.  For group reservations contact D. Amy-Rose Forbes-Erickson at dforbese@kent.edu or (330)672-0082.  Tickets can be purchased by visiting the African Community Theatre website or by contacting the Department of Pan-African Studies at (330) 672-2300 or in person at the Pan-African Studies main office room 127 Oscar Ritche Hall, 225 Terrace Drive between the hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.  Box office opens at 6:30 pm the night of the show.

Twitter: @donjuanrecaredo.

ME PREGUNTA:

The Realities of Haitian Migrations
Sunday, November 18 @ 3:30 pm
Room 8301 [Building 8, 3rd Floor]

In Haitian Creole with simultaneous interpretation into English

Individuals who migrate often experience the loss of cultural norms, religious customs, and social support systems. The adjustment to a new culture brings forth changes in identity and concept of self. In the case of Haiti, how do these changes affect the motherland – and the Haitian communities of the Diaspora?
In this panel, academics and experts in the literary field will speak to the issue of Haitian migration, racial, gender, and national identity, and ultimately, of life in the balance. With Pauris Jean-Baptiste (writer), Pierre Buteau (historian), Inéma Jeudi (journalist), and Claude Charles (ethnologist). Moderated by Marleine Bastien, Executive Director of FANM

#MeToo Movement in the Afro-Caribbean Communities
Sunday, November 18 @ 5:30 pm
Room 8301 (Building 8, 3rd Floor)

In many African-Caribbean communities, reactions to the #MeToo movement often reflect a lack of adequate thought about abuse; in fact, these reactions can even indicate increasing levels of gender-based violence as a norm. Women brave enough to come out with their ordeals are often silenced or made to face backlash for their choice to demand justice. Academics and writing professionals will discuss the blurry lines between abuse and what is considered “normal” gender relations and “natural”’ male behavior in Haiti and other African-Caribbean countries, and present ideas on ways that literature can support the women in impoverished/conflict countries. With Judite Blanc (research psychologist), Monique Clesca (UN Specialist), Marlene Chouloute-Hyppolite (writer), and Georges Bossous (human rights activist). Moderated by Anaïse Chavenet (literary publicist). [In Haitian Creole with simultaneous interpretation into English]

INFORMATION ABOUT LINING OUT
These excerpts are given in no particular order.
Excerpt #1:
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lining_out
"Lining out or hymn lining, called precenting the line in Scotland, is a form of a cappella hymn-singing or hymnody in which a leader, often called the clerk or precentor, gives each line of a hymn tune as it is to be sung, usually in a chanted form giving or suggesting the tune. It can be considered a form of call and response. First referred to as "the old way of singing" in eighteenth-century Britain, it has influenced twentieth century popular music singing styles.[1]

[...]

Lining out persisted much longer in some churches in the American South, either through theological conservatism or through the recurrence of the conditions of lack of books and literacy, and in some places is still practiced today. In African American churches this practice became known as "Dr. Watts Hymn Singing," a historical irony given Watts' disapproval of the practice.

Current usage
Some Christian churches in the U.S. still practice lining out. While some churches calling themselves Primitive Baptist or Regular Baptist use it, this form of singing predominates among the Old Regular Baptist churches. The practice is becoming attenuated in some of them—the leader will begin lining out, but after the first verse or two will say "Sing on!", or a part of the service is lined out but other parts are not—so it is unclear how long it will survive."...

From https://www.urbancusp.com/2014/09/lined-hymn-african-american-vocal-tradition/ "The Lined-Hymn: An African American Vocal Tradition" By Urban Cusp on September 23, 2014
..."In the sweltering summers of my childhood, I spent many Sunday mornings with family tracking that clay into my grandparents’ small church. It was here where the elders – iron men and women who’d seen and survived a lynch-happy South, Jim Crow laws, and the hardscrabble lives of sharecroppers – brought their troubles to the altar and renewed the faith that sustained them. The Sunday ritual began with a time-honored tradition that is equally haunting and hopeful: a singing method called “lining a hymn.”

Lining a hymn is a common art form that has been practiced for centuries. The basic scheme is a leader, or precentor, raises the song by reciting a lyric, and the congregation carols the line back. This is done a cappella and follows a distinct melody that may sound a bit haphazardly constructed to the untrained ear. As is to be expected with such an old practice, it has many names: lining-out, surge-singing, deaconing, long meter, or Dr. Watts (named after 17th century Englishman and songwriter Isaac Watts who produced hymnals).

This method of singing originated in England as a way of compensating for the lack of hymnals and facilitating participation for illiterate parishioners. Gilbert Chase writes in America’s Music that the practice was legally sanctioned by Westminster in 1644, citing,

“for the present, where many of the congregation cannot read, it is convenient that the minister, or some other fit person appointed by him and the other officers, to read the psalm, line by line, before the singing thereof.”

This practice made its way to Scotland and eventually across the Atlantic to the colonies, from northeasterly winds in New England to the red clay of Georgia. Upon arrival on the American shores, whites and blacks in various parts of the land adopted the custom to their developing subcultures. During slavery, lining a hymn accompanied blacks’ conversion to Christianity and flourished because of their forced illiteracy. Whites in the hills of Appalachia sing it a little differently than blacks along the river banks of Mississippi. No matter the melodic dialect, lining a hymn is intrinsically American. The Smithsonian Institute calls it “the oldest English-language religious music in oral tradition in North America.”

There’s speculation that the oral tradition of many West African cultures made the practice particularly appealing to black slaves thrust and pressed into servitude. The horrific conditions of their existence certainly made the Christian teachings of a utopian afterlife attractive. As with the more familiar Negro spirituals, the lyrics of lined-out hymns center on enduring suffering with strength, believing that an end to grief will one day come.

As such, in the black church, the purpose of lining a hymn arguably always has been more than a utilitarian practice based on the availability of songbooks. It serves as a choral binding of the congregation, one to another, expressed in the harmonies of shared sorrows and the strength drawn from chords of accord.

After the end of slavery, the Reconstruction period, and Jim Crow, this custom has slowly begun to fade. The spread of literacy among blacks, the large migration north in search of economic opportunity, and the advent of gospel’s popularity has mostly relegated lining-out to that of an ancient art. When it’s heard in urban centers or contemporary black churches, it’s often aperiodic commemoration. It still, however, lives on in rural corners of the country where the centuries-old pain of the black American experience hangs in the air and covers the soil."...

This quote appeared in the Black Music Research Journal Center for Black Music Research, Columbia College, Chicago, Vol. 15 NO. 1, Spring 1995; reposted from http://www.hymnchoir.org/
"This way of singing hymns is called "Dr. Watts" , named after the 18th century composer of English hymns, "Dr Isaac Watts. These songs are also called "long meter", the "Old One Hundreds", and "surge singing."

Here's some more information about this type of soulful singing:
"According to William T. Dargan, Ph.D., Professor of Music at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina, the old style a capella "spirituals and hymns are characterized by two and three part modal harmonies, gradual but drastic quickening of tempos, frequent and strong body movements as well as polyrhythmic clapping and stomping patterns.

Developed by slaves during the camp meeting revivals of the early nineteenth century, spirituals are rhythmic, call-and-response song forms that continue in oral tradition among African-American congregations.

"Lining out" is a method of performing a psalm or hymn in which the leader gives out the words, or the melody, or both, one or two lines at a time, to be followed by the congregation. This practice began in the early seventeenth century by the British Parish Churches as an aid for those who were unable to read."...

"Now this is what I grew up on. My grandfather was Chrm of the Deacon Board. Those old Deacons would sing like this before Pastor took the pulpit. No music, then they sat down, and the beautiful organ would sound at the command of Mr Hamilton the great organist. Where did those days go. The pastor, my grandfather and most of the deacons are gone to heaven and so has Mr Hamilton."

"This is an extract of the extraordinary congregational/communal singing evolved from West Africa into the African-American Culture and preserved in the Black Baptist tradition. I remember hearing something similar at my Grandmother's Wake and graveside service in Jamaica, as rendered by her peers. I knew I would probably never hear that kind of singing again, as her generation would soon die out."

13. Micheal Gardner, 2014
"Having grown up in a National Baptist Church, and being African American 100% I can say that this form of singing is a combination of African culture and european influence. The stomping on the ground, clapping and responding to the leader (the person speaking before the congregation sings) is an African custom known as call an response. The song is european. The practice of the deacon reading the music is known as "lining a hymn", this is done in the black church because our ancestors as slaves did not all know how to read. I must note that the only way to properly carry out this form is to have been brought up in it and be spirit led."

Book Review: Carl Hiaasen’s “Skinny Dip”      Cache   Translate Page
Jamaican pot, attempted murder, lies, sex and blackmail. Carl Hiaasen’s “Skinny Dip” covers all of this and more, offering a perfect combination of high comedy and subtle social commentary. From the get-go, Hiaasen grabs the reader’s attention with the eventful second wedding anniversary of lowlife Chaz Perrone and his simply lovely wife, Joey. When she presents him with a thoughtful gift of leather golf club covers while aboard their cruise, he returns the favor with what (he imagines to be) a stealthy maneuver to throw her overboard.

Most of us in developed countries take for granted that our money is safe. Put it in a bank, and in theory at least, it doesn't going anywhere. But that's not necessarily true everywhere.

So Business Insider took a look into the countries with the safest banks, using the World Economic Forum's recently-released Global Competitiveness Survey, which offers a bundle of indicators to show the health of a country's institutions.

One of those is the perceived safeness of banks.

WEF used its executive opinion survey to ask: "In general, how do you perceive the soundness of banks?"

So the measure isn't based on any objective economic or accounting measure, but rather by the perceptions of the population. The countries are ranked from 1 (banks need more money) to 7 (banks are generally sound).

Check out the countries with the safest banks below.

Canada Enters the Wild World of Legal Weed      Cache   Translate Page
And they are doing it better than us. by Lester Black

Legal pot hasn't even been on sale for a month in Canada, and yet the weed industry there is already worth more than hockey is. You read that correctly: Even Canadian hockey, with a nearly $2 billion economic impact, is no match for the $6.61 billion impact legal pot is predicted to have on the Canadian economy.

With roughly the same population as the state of California, Canada doesn't have a particularly large number of people, and its economy is far smaller than that of the United States. So why is Canada's legalization such a big business?

It's because Canada actually legalized pot, something the US has never done. Individual states like California and Washington have legalized weed, but cannabis remains highly illegal according to US federal law. Canada went the opposite route: The federal government legalized pot, and then let the local governments decide on regulations.

That has left Canada with a patchwork of pot laws. Some territories, like Alberta, allow 18-year-olds to buy legal pot, but other places, such as British Columbia, make people wait until they are 19 to legally toke. Manitoba won't allow residents to grow their own pot (boo!), but Nova Scotia allows every adult to grow up to four plants at home (yay!). New Brunswick will allow pot to be sold only in person at government-run stores (like Washington's old liquor law system), whereas BC will have private stores and government stores, and even allow for online sales.

Even with these regulatory differences across the country, pot is still legal everywhere in Canada, and that's giving our northern neighbors a business advantage. Big companies are very hesitant to get involved in the US's legal state markets because of our federal prohibition. That has left state industries trailing according to a new report from cannabis analytics firm New Frontier Data, which compared Canada's market to California's.

"While comparisons can be made to California's legal cannabis market, Canada stands alone in terms of scope and importance on the world stage," the report's authors wrote. "This was mainly due to Canada's being a safer play, with a federally legal medical market."

That's opened the door to huge investments. New Frontier Data tracked a 600 percent increase in corporate pot deals in Canada from 2017 to 2018, including deals that have made some pot companies worth more than $10 billion. The tobacco and alcohol industries are also investing in this new market. Constellation Brands, which owns beer brands like Corona and Ballast Point, dropped $245 million in a Canadian pot producer, and Alliance One, a North Carolina tobacco company, now has a controlling stake in a Canadian pot grow.

The Canadian market launched this month with pot shortages, but once these huge, billion-dollar companies get up and running, they will each be able to produce more than 100,000 kilograms of pot a year, according to New Frontier Data's estimates. The data firm thinks the entire market will only consume 300,000 to 400,000 kilograms of pot a year. That adds up to an oversupply problem, and small pot growers are worried.

There is one alleviating factor to Canada's impending oversupply problem: Full legalization means Canadian pot companies can enter into international agreements to sell their pot overseas. Some Canadian companies already have agreements to export pot to other countries, including Germany, Denmark, Brazil, and Jamaica.

These trade deals may ease Canada's oversupply problem, but they don't make it legal for you to buy pot in Vancouver and drive it to Seattle. Thanks to our country's idiotic federal prohibition on weed, our border patrol agents are still total dicks when it comes to pot possession, and will likely arrest you if they find any on your person. The US border patrol is even considering banning Canadians that work in the pot industry from entering the US

While the US maintains those insane policies, Canada is showing the world how to legalize pot on a national scale. It might just make our northern neighbors more famous for cannabis than for hockey.

Will the Dems Make Big State Legislative Gains?       Cache   Translate Page

In the 2010 midterm elections, the Democrats lost a net of 702 state legislative seats across the country. That tied 1958, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Republican Party lost the same amount in a midterm election during an economic recession. The only examples of a larger slaughter in modern history came in 1938 when Franklin Roosevelt suffered the worst political loss of his career (769 seats), in 1966 when Lyndon B. Johnson received a strong rebuke (782 seats), in 1922 when Warren Harding’s unpopular tax cuts and labor policies cost him (907 seats), and in 1932 when Herbert Hoover was swept out of office amid the Great Depression (1,022 seats). The Democrats hope to add to this list when all the votes are counted on Tuesday.

Here in southeastern Pennsylvania, there is plenty of hope that we’ll contribute to the Democrats’ national numbers. The process began a year ago, and I wrote about it after looking at the off-year 2017 election results.

Here in the Philly suburbs, the realignment definitely came, and it came with historic force. Nowhere was that clearer than in Chester and Delaware Counties. In Chester County, the Democrats won races for four so-called “row office” positions, with a general massacre of Republican officeholders throughout the county that extended even to magisterial district judges. For perspective, since Chester County was incorporated in the 18th century, no Democrat had ever been elected to any of the nine row office positions.

In Delaware County, the Democrats won two county Council seats and took all three of the row offices that were on the ballot. Amazingly, this is the first time in history that any Democrat has won a competitive countywide election there.

These results for the local GOP are equivalent to what happened to the Democratic Party in the South over the last couple of decades.

The latest polls for governor and U.S. Senate show Democrats Tom Wolf and Bob Casey Jr. cruising to reelection. Pennsylvania’s U.S. congressional districts were redrawn after the state Supreme Court ruled the Republican-drawn maps to be an unconstitutional exercise in gerrymandering, and the entire southeast of the state has been impacted. The likely result is a complete sweep of the suburban Philly seats by the Democrats, with the possible exception of the Bucks County-based seat held by incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick. Where I live in Chester County, I expect to be represented in DC by a Democratic congressperson for the first time since I moved here in 2005.

It’s not a happy time to be a Republican in the southeast part of Pennsylvania, and I can’t imagine that the party’s voters are too enthused about going to vote on Tuesday knowing that it’s highly unlikely that their preferred candidates will win. But there are still some state senators and state representatives who will survive, either because they have strong connections to their communities, their opponents are weak, or because their districts are made up of strong conservative pockets of the region.

While many people including myself will be looking at the U.S. House and Senate results and the nation’s many governors’ races, I’ll also have my eyes on some of the local contests. For example, Republican Stephen E. Barrar serves in the 160th District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives which straddles Delaware and Chester counties. He’s been serving that area since 1996. I first became aware of him when he indirectly deemed me a criminal for registering Pennsylvania voters in 2004 as ACORN’s Montgomery County coordinator. At his website, he proudly brags about his role in destroying ACORN.

He gained statewide recognition for his outspoken opposition to the questionable activities of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and ultimately helped bring about the demise of the organization.

Barrar doesn’t appear to be a scoundrel or have any major scandals whirling around his campaign. He’s mainly been getting good local press, some of it with the help of Tom Wolf’s administration in Harrisburg. But he will have to rely on his own skills to get reelected.

The last time state Rep. Barrar faced a competitive election was in 2014, when Tom Wolf won election as Pennsylvania’s governor. Wolf narrowly lost the 160th District by 37 votes, but Barrar was reelected by a 2,700 vote margin.

Stephen Barrar (R) 13,303 62.2%
Whitney Hoffman (D) 7,944 37.4%

In 2016, Barrar faced only an independent challenger but Hillary Clinton (17,345 votes) carried the district over Trump (16,623 votes). Because there was no Democrat on the ballot for the 160th District in 2016, there were about 8,000 voters who cast a vote for president and then didn’t bother to cast a vote in the state representative race. In 2014, there was almost no drop-off from the top of the ballot at all (both the ’14 elections saw about 21,300 votes cast).

Most of the 8,000 people who didn’t vote for PA-160 in 2016 were probably Democrats who weren’t going to cast a vote for a Republican under any circumstances and didn’t want to vote for an independent they knew nothing about. On the other hand, even though there were 8,000 missing votes, Barrar won the support of 6,000 more voters than Trump. That demonstrates his crossover appeal and helps explain why Barrar might be able to survive the tsunami that is expected to arrive on Tuesday.

The thing about tsunamis, though, is that they wash over the guilty and innocent alike, and the political variety can claim victims like Barrar whose district is careening away from him at an accelerating rate. And, of course, it’s also important to have an actual viable opponent, which Barrar did not have two years ago. This time he’s facing a real-life candidate named Anton Andrew.

Andrew has a unique biography.  He lived in Jamaica and Trinidad until the age of ten, when his family relocated to Washington DC. He has degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the Hofstra University School of Law. He began his legal career as a public defender in Miami, Florida before becoming a senior advisor to the president at Cheyney University, the nation’s oldest Historically Black College or University (HBCU).  He’s running in a district that is 85.7 percent white.

That might not sound very promising, but in addition to having some potential coattails assisting him at the top of the ballot, Mr. Andrew also happens to be on the better side of the issues in this district at this time.  Barrar is taking the unpopular position on the fracking severance tax and he’s not strong enough on the gun issue which is really driving things to an unanticipated degree in the suburbs. Andrew is better positioned on marijuana and probably helped himself by opposing Brett Kavanaugh more than Barrar did by supporting him.

Honestly, I have no idea who will win this race, but I will keep my eye on it because if Barrar falls it will indicate to me that the Republicans on the state legislative level are going to get wiped out in historic numbers all across the country.

These 29 countries have the safest banks in the world      Cache   Translate Page

NorwayReuters/Kacper Pempel

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — West Indies were given a warm reception when they arrived here Monday evening to complete their final preparation for the Women's Twenty20 World Cup which bowls off at the Guyana National Stadium on Friday.

The reigning World champions were hosted in a cocktail reception at the cultural Umana Yana venue which was attended by Guyana Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo; Director of Sport Christopher Jones, along with several other government officials.

West Indies face New Zealand in their final official ICC warm-up on Wednesday night before clashing with Bangladesh in their opening preliminary match two days later.

Dancers perform one of their cultural routines during the cocktail reception for West Indies Women.

The fixture will be one of 11 preliminary matches being staged at the National Stadium here and Nagamootoo said Guyana's hosting of the tournament – the first ICC stand-alone women's event – was a major turning point in sports for the country.

“When we talk about the glass ceiling, Guyana has not only touched it, we have in fact smashed it and I think that the T20 competition in Guyana featuring women's teams would be amazing to all of us who would like to see the full empowerment of our women, not only in the arena of politics and administration but in the arena of sports and the arena of culture,” said Nagamootoo.

Recently Twitter has been calling out white Instagram models for playing up the "racially ambigious" role. They darken their skin, overline their lips and change their hair to look like women of color. Here are some offenders:

mikafrancis

eemmahaldberg

jaidengumby

We can also see this phenomenon in the Entertainment industry with Ariana Grande, The Kardashians and Jesy Nelson from Little Mix, being the most notable cases. One can't help but wonder how much money these women spend on spray tan and if they stain all of their clothes and sheets.

Jesy Nelson from Little Mix
Miss Balegdah herself, Jesy Nelson is 100% white despite her convincing jamaican accent and stunning island glow. She's often seen sporting heavily overlined lips, long party city wigs, and drenched in tanning oil. PB&Nelsons glow is so convincing that people often think she's the second WOC in the band instead of actual WOC Jade Thirlwall.

https://instagram.com/p/BfZSYHqh7_i

Her natural skin color:

Ariana Grande
Pete Davidson’s never-wife Ariana Grande is an actress, singer, and shockingly, not latina. Despite the heavy tan, recently plumped lips, and rolodex of AAVE influenced twitter comments to keep her hip to the youth, Ariana is 100% mayo. While many argue that "deep tanning" is merely a Cultural Institution amongst italians, op can only say: "thank u, next (bullshit excuse)."

Kylie Jenner
The crown heiress of white women pretending to be black for attention, Kylie Jenner’s transformation from calabasas cornbread to Oakland baddie was likely inevitable given her equally obsessed family.
