Oil prices took a noticable hit on Tuesday morning, as markets adjusted to the "new normal" of U.S. sanctions on Iran. (Click to enlarge) (Click to enlarge) (Click to enlarge) (Click to enlarge)- U.S. monthly oil production jumped to 11.3 million barrels per day in August, a new all-time record high. Production in Texas topped 4.6 mb/d in August. - The jump was enough to make the U.S. the largest oil producer in the world, overtaking Russia’s 11.2 mb/d. - Pipeline constraints and other bottlenecks were expected to slow development.…
The United States government is preparing more sanctions against Iran, national security adviser John Bolton told Fox Business News, commenting on what the current sanctions have already helped Washington accomplish, and what the ultimate goal is. “The aim is to drive Iranian oil exports to zero. We’re working with other countries to get alternative supplies for countries that are buying and I think that’s critical over an extended period of time,” Bolton said, adding that this has already hurt the Iranian economy, plunging…

South Korea will resume Iranian crude oil imports at a rate of about 4 million barrels a month, S&P Global Platts reports, citing three unnamed South Korean sources. At the same time, the sources added, the country will continue to look for alternative sources of the commodity. South Korea is the world’s fifth-largest crude oil importer, and as such an important client for Iran’s oil alongside China and India. Yet South Korea is a close ally of the United States, and it is no surprise the country earlier this year opted for full…
After suspending all shipments of Iranian crude to Japanese refineries ahead of the November 5 launch of U.S. sanctions against Tehran, Japanese refiners are now preparing to resume Iranian oil imports. That’s according to Japan’s Trade Minister Hiroshige Seki as quoted by Reuters. “It would be up to the judgment of private firms, but based on this decision, the (Japanese) companies would likely prepare for resuming Iran crude imports,” Seki said, declining to comment on the size of shipments as compared to imports before…

Senior US diplomat Alice Wells on Tuesday held delegation-level discussions with senior officials of the Foreign Office to review progress on bilateral relations.
Wells, the US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, headed the visiting delegation while the Pakistani side was led by Additional Secretary FO (Americas) Aftab Khokher. Senior officials from the interior and defence ministries also attended the talks.
"The meeting took stock of the understanding reached between Foreign Minister [Shah Mehmood] Qureshi and Secretary [Mike] Pompeo to rebuild the relationship based on mutual trust and respect," FO spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal said in a statement.
Pakistan during the meeting stressed the need to increase commercial and economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts in order to diversity bilateral US-Pakistan relations, the handout said.
The evolving regional situation and peace and stability in Afghanistan were also discussed during the meeting.
"The US delegation appreciated the need to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Pakistan which [is] an important country of the region," the statement revealed.
The two sides agreed to continue efforts to promote the shared objectives of peace and stability in the region and to diversify their bilateral relationship.
Meeting with finance minister
The US envoy also called on Finance Minister Asad Umar.
During the meeting, Wells and Umar discussed the present state of Pakistan-US ties — with an emphasis on economic cooperation — and the overall security situation in the region, a Ministry of Finance press release said.
"Matters related to international cooperation to curb terror financing also came under discussion," the statement said.
The finance minister was quoted as saying during the meeting that Pakistan had made great strides in the war against terrorism in recent years and "it will continue to take all possible steps to root out terror financing and money laundering".
Umar shared the government's vision to reform the country's economy with the diplomat, who informed the minister about the US efforts for regional security.
The finance minister said "such visits contribute to enhancing understanding of each other’s point of view on issues of bilateral significance".
Ambassador Wells had arrived in Pakistan earlier today on a one-day visit.
The Government of Pakistan official Twitter account had announced that Wells would discuss "Pakistan-US ties, regional situation and Afghan peace process".
The purpose of the meetings between Wells and Pakistani officials would be to follow up on Foreign Minister Qureshi's meeting with Pompeo earlier this month "with a view to further strengthen bilateral relations", the spokesperson had said yesterday.
Her visit comes ahead of a meeting of regional countries on Afghan peace, involving Iran, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which is being hosted by Moscow on Friday. A delegation of Taliban will also join the talks.

WE are reeling from another ‘surrender’ of the state. The hyperbole surrounding the ‘surrender’ was as extreme as was the praise that followed the prime minister’s speech earlier. From the withdrawal of a tweet to these recent two dharnas, ‘surrenders’ come thick and fast in Pakistan. And none of them are of the ordinary kind; each is a ‘surrender’ worthy of a comparison to 1971.
But the last two ‘surrenders’ — to the TLP — by the PML-N and the PTI have once again highlighted the state’s relationship with religio-political parties, which since the start of the Afghan war has always focused on the Deobandi groups. However, the rise of Khadim Rizvi and the TLP may change this.
Until recently, our angst was reserved for the state’s flirtation with and nurturing of Deobandi groups. From the Afghan war to the Kashmir issue in the ’90s, these groups were used in the neighbourhood as a cost-effective measure to further policy goals. And if in the process we had to pay a price domestically — sectarian violence being a case in point — it was deemed not too high.
Until recently, our angst was reserved for the state’s flirtation with Deobandi groups.
(There were a few unusual voices such as Vali Nasr who focused on electoral politics and how the state’s appropriation of Islam meant that Pakistan was one of the few Muslim countries where religio-political parties remained rather marginal in electoral politics. This was quite unlike most of the Muslim world where the opposition to the state inevitably took the shape of a religio-political party such as the Muslim Brotherhood or the clergy in Iran. But the more publicised argument always was about the adverse effects of the patronage of the militant groups.)
The post-9/11 world finally forced a change of thinking on the state. The change in policy was forced not by international considerations but by domestic compulsions. The spread of militancy from Fata to Swat to beyond and the spate of terrorist attacks in urban centres and the lives it cost forced the state to move against the use of violence.
The relationship status became ‘complicated’. Some groups were abandoned immediately, some over time, with some a love-hate relationship continued while with others, the flirtation continued but more secretly than before.
But for everyone, the Deobandis, the troublesome children, were the focus of attention. The Barelvis, on the other hand, were the peaceniks no one worried about. In fact, in the post 9/11 world, the latter were even given donor support in order to nurture the more ‘peaceful Islam’ as if the problem were of interpretation rather than politics.
But 2010 brought a change in this bifurcation.
The assassination of Salmaan Taseer and the chain of events it set off has culminated in the rise of the TLP which seems to combine a threat of violence with an electoral challenge.
However, the threat of violence — so far — seems to be of a different kind than the Deobandi groups present. If the latter were feared for violent militias and the challenge they posed to state authority by controlling pockets of territory (as the TTP did), Barelvi violence has rattled society by mob violence.
Since the assassination of Taseer, there have not been any more such high-profile killings by believers of this school of thought — whether this is because the former governor’s death put an abrupt end to the debate he provoked or for other reasons is unclear.
The rest of the violence around his death (from Shahbaz Bhatti’s assassination to Taseer’s son’s kidnapping) was linked to the TTP. There is a level of convergence between the Barelvis and Deobandis on the emotive issue of blasphemy, but generally the parties within the electoral system tend to stand up for the blasphemy law. This doesn’t appear to be an issue where the militant groups and TLP are standing together.
Other than that, the TLP has opted for electoral politics where some analysts argue that more than the vote bank of the PML-N, the party has eaten into the votes of the more mainstream religio-political parties such as the Jamaat-i-Islami and JUI-F.
But despite its more mainstream choice, its relationship with the state is not as simplistic as the one portrayed. Its street protests and the related violence seems to rattle the state enough to think that there is no option but negotiations.
During the previous dharna, it was assumed that the protesters were encouraged to some extent by the civil-military disconnect, but this time round, it’s hard for anyone other than conspiracy theorists to accept this argument wholly. And yet, the end of the protest differed only in how quickly it came.
Another way to look at it would be to consider the language Rizvi and others around him used for state institutions and for those heading them. Such abusive language would not be uttered by the leaders of Deobandi groups, especially not those who take part in electoral politics.
Take the case of the accusations against a senior military official which Rizvi and his cronies mentioned in his speeches. This accusation was first brought up by a Deobandi figure (who has also been part of parliament) and within days he recanted — undoubtedly because of the displeasure expressed by those in power. However, no one seems to be in a position to wield a similar influence over Rizvi.
Neither is the TLP mob violence or street protests as controllable as, say, the protests by the Difa-i-Pakistan Council, which has both Barelvi and Deobandi parties under its umbrella; however, the stronger ones are from the latter school of thought. DFC’s protests are turned on and off, with little fear of the situation spiralling out of control.
It is too soon to assess the impact the TLP will have on the country’s electoral scene (usually parties with a one-point agenda do not manage to last long in the election cycle) or the religio-political scene in general. However, its efficacy in mobilising people — for votes or protests — do not indicate a short political life or impact. But a more realistic evaluation will require time.
ISLAMABAD: The oil industry is seeking to include the impact of its foreign exchange exposure in the pricing of petroleum products in view of rising consumption, increased reliance on imports and abrupt currency fluctuations.
This is part of the new downstream petroleum policy 2018 which is currently being firmed up. At a meeting last week, the industry had also reportedly made a case for continuation of 7.5 per cent deemed duty on diesel refining and in some cases an increase to 9pc as opposed to a call by the Senate standing committee on petroleum to abolish the deemed duty.
Sources said import of finished products had put an additional burden on oil companies owing to foreign exchange availability and fluctuation and, therefore, should be worked out by the ministries of energy and finance to make it part of the pricing of petroleum products.
Rising consumption, increased reliance on imports and abrupt currency fluctuations cited as reasons
The meeting presided over by Asad Hayaud Din, secretary in charge of the petroleum division, was warned of serious supply chain consequences in the absence of a clear policy on utilisation of high sulfur furnace oil (HSFO).
It was reported that there was a crisis relating to non-utilisation of HSFO in October last year that led to almost closure of local refineries which annually produce about three million tonnes of HSFO.
Although there had been a strict policy not to import HSFO, recent developments showed Pak-Arab Refinery had only two days’ ullage in its tanks which could lead to supply problems.
On the other hand, the government has not been able to streamline import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the power sector despite availability of two import terminals having capacity of 1.2 billion cubic feet per day and yet significant gas shortages in the country. “There should be a forward looking predictability developed through close coordination of power and petroleum divisions about the demand and requirement of HSFO and LNG during the Nov-Jan period,” an official said.
Oil companies, including the Pakistan State Oil (PSO), said they would not be able to import HSFO on short notice if needed during winter months of low hydropower availability. A decision, it was put on record, had been taken in September last year to set up a committee comprising top officials of the petroleum and power divisions as well as the PSO and Oil Companies Advisory Committee on the subject, but the committee has yet to be operationalised.
The meeting also discussed the issue of increase in smuggling of petroleum products from Iran and the participants believed this would further go up in the coming days with re-imposition of US sanctions on Tehran as people across the border could resort to phenomenal dumping at low prices.
These policy adjustments should be made in the initial days of the new government for predictability over the next four years as the consumption of all petroleum products is set to go up. For example, the country’s petrol consumption is estimated to surge by 80pc to 14 million tonnes and the overall oil demand will increase by about 18pc despite a 65pc fall in furnace oil needs in five years. The demand for petrol currently stood at about 7.97m tonnes would jump to 14.17m tonnes in 2021-22, showing an increase of about 78pc.
On the other hand, the consumption of furnace oil is estimated to reduce by almost 65pc to 3.2m tonnes in five years from about 9m tonnes. In fact, the furnace oil consumption would drop to 3.2m tonnes next year and then remain flat at that level for five years due to diversion of power generation to imported LNG and coal. Fuel switch in the power sector is estimated to save about $2.5-3 billion per annum.
The demand for total petroleum products is estimated to increase from 27m tonnes this year to about 32m tonnes in five years, showing an increase of 17.5pc. High speed diesel will be another major driver for growth in consumption of petroleum products. Its consumption is estimated to increase by 46.4pc to 13.7m tonnes in five years from 9.3m tonnes.
The demand for kerosene and light diesel oil is also estimated to increase by 8.24pc each to 141,000 tonnes and 25,000 tonnes, respectively, in five years.
The deficit of petrol currently stood at 4.8m tonnes owing to insufficient refining capacity in the country will surge by 122pc by 2021-22. Likewise, the HSD deficit will increase from 3.9m tonnes to 6.3m tonnes, showing an increase of more than 62pc.

The Belgium-based SWIFT financial messaging service said on Monday it is suspending some unspecified Iranian banks’ access to its messaging system in the interest of the stability and integrity of the global financial system. In a brief statement, SWIFT made no mention of U.S. sanctions coming back into effect on some Iranian financial institutions on Monday as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s effort to force Iran to curtail its nuclear, missile and regional activities. The SWIFT statement said suspending the Iranian banks access to the messaging system was a "regrettable" step but was "taken in the interest of the stability and integrity of the wider global financial system." Having abandoned the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Trump is trying to cripple Iran's oil-dependent economy and force Tehran to quash not only its nuclear ambitions and its ballistic missile program but its support for militant proxies in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East. The United States on Monday restored sanctions targeting Iran's oil, banking and transportation sectors and threatened more action to stop its "outlaw" policies, steps the Islamic Republic called economic warfare and vowed to defy. The sanctions cover 50 Iranian banks and subsidiaries, more than 200 persons and vessels in its shipping sector, and targets Tehran's national airline, Iran Air, and more than 65 of its aircraft. The measures are part of a wider effort by U.S. President Donald Trump to curb Tehran's missile and nuclear programs and diminish the Islamic Republic's influence in the Middle East, notably its support for proxies in Syria, Yemen and Lebanon. Trump's moves target Iran's main source of revenue - its oil exports - as well as its financial sector, essentially making the 50 Iranian banks and subsidiaries off limits to foreign banks on pain of losing access to the U.S. financial system. The administration said it had toughened the sanctions by roughly 300 new designations
The United States said on Friday it will temporarily allow eight importers to keep buying Iranian oil when it re-imposes sanctions on Monday to try to force Iran to curb its nuclear, missile and regional activities. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who announced the decision, did not name the eight, which he referred to as "jurisdictions," a term that might include importers such as Taiwan which the United States does not regard as a country. Having abandoned the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to cripple Iran’s oil-dependent economy and force Tehran to quash not only its nuclear ambitions and its ballistic missile program but its support for militant proxies in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East. On Twitter, in a message designed to emphasize his "maximum pressure" policy toward Iran, Trump included a photograph of himself modeled on a entertainment industry poster with the headline: "Sanctions are coming November 5." Facebook says it has blocked 115 user accounts after U.S. authorities alerted the social network to suspicious activity that may be linked to a foreign country. The company's move, announced in a blog post late on November 5, came hours after U.S. law enforcement agencies warned that, as U.S. voters go to the polls on November 6, they should be wary of attempts by Russia, Iran, and other countries to spread fake news on social media. "At this time we have no indication of compromise of our nation's election infrastructure that would prevent voting, change vote counts, or disrupt the ability to tally votes," said a joint statement by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen; Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and FBI Director Christopher Wray. Saudi Arabia may be maintaining a blockade of Yemen and facing repeated accusations of indiscriminate bombing of civilian sites, but US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says starvation in the country is Iran's fault. Yemen has been in turmoil for years and the Saudi-led coalition was involved over three years ago. The alliance sent its troops and warplanes to put an ousted president back into power, after he fled under pressure from the Houthi rebels, a group that the Saudi sees as a proxy force of its archenemy Iran. As part of its campaign, the Saudi-led troops imposed a blockade of the country, stifling the supply of food, fuel, medicine and other essentials. Activists claimed its warplanes have also bombed civilian infrastructure like water treatment facilities, hospitals and markets. The result is what some observers openly call a man-made humanitarian disaster, with millions of Yemenis estimated by the UN to be on the brink of starvation, and dozens dying each day from...
Earlier, Iran accused the Israeli prime minister of attempting to create a rift among Muslim states and to "cover up its 70-year-long occupation of Palestine" after Netanyahu travelled to Oman for a surprise visit. "Power is the most important [component] of foreign policy. 'Occupation' is baloney. There were huge countries that have occupied and transferred populations and no one talks about them," Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly said, speaking to Likud Party lawmakers in a closed door meeting on Monday, The Times of Israel has reported, citing local media. "Power changes everything, and it changes our policies vis-à-vis Arab states, and there are other countries on the way," Netanyahu was further quoted as saying, in apparent reference to Tel Aviv's improving relations with the Gulf states in spite of traditional tensions over the Palestinian issue. Speaking about negotiations on a peace agreement with the Palestinians, Netanyahu reportedly said that "[c]ontrary to the notion that...

Touted by Donald Trump as the "strongest" ever imposed by the US, the embargo on Iranian oil has just gone into effect. Washington, however, had to grant several waivers to countries that refused to cut economic ties with Tehran. The sweeping package of sanctions, targeting Tehran's energy, finance and shipping sectors, went into effect November 5. This marks a full reversal of whatever small relief was given to Iranian companies and individuals by Washington following the historic international nuclear deal (JCPOA) in 2015. Even though the US administration, and the president personally, repeatedly trumpeted the embargo as a great achievement at numerous public events in the run-up to midterm elections, Washington had to make significant concessions, as it failed to rally enough international support for its bold move.
This morning was reported: Watch Live: Pompeo Announces Iran Sanctions 'Waivers' Monday 5 November 2018 8:29AM Update (8:40 am ET): The following countries will receive 'temporary' waivers excusing them from US sanctions on Iranian oil exports. - South Korea - Taiwan - Turkey - Greece - Japan - China - India - Italy
This is a long read but it's important information. Antibiotic resistant pathogens are a huge problem in Afghanistan. This was a huge problem for the military, with troops frequently acquiring drug resistant infections in blast wounds. The military has largely overcome it, but the civilian population is severely affected. This article also notes that Afghanistan has among the worst health care and public health systems in the world:
One woman dies every two hours from pregnancy-related causes, according to conservative estimates by Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), and one in 25 newborn babies dies, the third highest neonatal death rate in the world, UNICEF figures show.
Life expectancy at birth is 64, compared with 79 in the US and a global average of 72. There is a shortage of doctors, especially in rural areas, and infection control is poor.
Drug resistance has become one of the world's greatest public health crises, estimated to cause 700,000 deaths worldwide and expected to kill 10 million by 2050 if no action is taken.
Fueling the superbug problem in Afghanistan is the unregulated sale of antibiotics in human medicine and in agriculture. Drugs are advertised on television and available to buy over the counter from pharmacies without a prescription or diagnosis from a doctor.
Michael Walsh wants us to understand that the Obama administration was in charge of the CIA and national security when intelligence operatives around the world were exposed, compromised and even murdered.
No one cares about the story because the story exposes the rank dereliction of the Obama administration and because it is too complicated for most people to understand.
Walsh points the finger of blame:
A rollup of networks across the world -- an event that began in Iran, where the Obama administration would soon enough be negotiating its much sought-after "nuclear deal framework" -- and ended with numerous deaths is the kind of thing of which intelligence nightmares and national-security disasters are made. One's first instinct is to look back and see who was CIA director during that period: Leon Panetta (Feb. 2009-June 2011); Michael Morell (acting director, July-Sept. 2011); David Petraeus (Sept. 2011-Nov. 2012); Morell again (acting, Nov. 2012-March 2013; and finally John Brennan, who served out the remainder of the Obama administration.
The story was reported by Yahoo! News. Note that everyone familiar with the events describe them as a catastrophic failure:
In 2013, hundreds of CIA officers — many working nonstop for weeks — scrambled to contain a disaster of global proportions: a compromise of the agency’s internet-based covert communications system used to interact with its informants in dark corners around the world. Teams of CIA experts worked feverishly to take down and reconfigure the websites secretly used for these communications; others managed operations to quickly spirit assets to safety and oversaw other forms of triage.
“When this was going on, it was all that mattered,” said one former intelligence community official. The situation was “catastrophic,” said another former senior intelligence official.
It was about the websites that CIA used to communicate with operatives around the world.
From around 2009 to 2013, the U.S. intelligence community experienced crippling intelligence failures related to the secret internet-based communications system, a key means for remote messaging between CIA officers and their sources on the ground worldwide. The previously unreported global problem originated in Iran and spiderwebbed to other countries, and was left unrepaired — despite warnings about what was happening — until more than two dozen sources died in China in 2011 and 2012 as a result, according to 11 former intelligence and national security officials.
CIA knew it and did nothing to repair the problem:
More than just a question of a single failure, the fiasco illustrates a breakdown that was never properly addressed. The government’s inability to address the communication system’s insecurities until after sources were rolled up in China was disastrous. “We’re still dealing with the fallout,” said one former national security official. “Dozens of people around the world were killed because of this.”
It all began in 2009:
One of the largest intelligence failures of the past decade started in Iran in 2009, when the Obama administration announced the discovery of a secret Iranian underground enrichment facility — part of Iran’s headlong drive for nuclear weapons. Angered about the breach, the Iranians went on a mole hunt, looking for foreign spies, said one former senior intelligence official.
The mole hunt wasn’t hard, in large part, because the communications system the CIA was using to communicate with agents was flawed. Former U.S. officials said the internet-based platform, which was first used in war zones in the Middle East, was not built to withstand the sophisticated counterintelligence efforts of a state actor like China or Iran. “It was never meant to be used long term for people to talk to sources,” said one former official. “The issue was that it was working well for too long, with too many people. But it was an elementary system.”
But a sense of confidence in the system kept it in operation far longer than was safe or advisable, said former officials. The CIA’s directorate of science and technology, which is responsible for the secure communications system, “says, ‘our s***’s impregnable,’ but it’s obviously not,” said one former official.
CIA officials knew about the problem and chose not to believe it, until Iran started arresting and executing CIA spies:
By 2010, however, it appears that Iran had begun to identify CIA agents. And by 2011, Iranian authorities dismantled a CIA spy network in that country, said seven former U.S. intelligence officials. (Indeed, in May 2011, Iranian intelligence officials announced publicly that they had broken up a ring of 30 CIA spies; U.S. officials later confirmed the breach to ABC News, which also reported on a potential compromise to the communications system.)
Iran executed some of the CIA informants and imprisoned others in an intelligence setback that one of the former officials described as “incredibly damaging.” The CIA successfully exfiltrated some of its Iranian sources, said former officials.
At a time when the Obama administration was in full appeasement mode toward Iran, it had no good intelligence from inside the country:
The Iranian compromise led to significantly fewer CIA agents being killed than in China, according to former officials. Still, the events there hampered the CIA’s capacity to collect intelligence in Iran at a critical time, just as Tehran was forging ahead with its nuclear program.
It was an unmitigated catastrophe.
But the events in Iran were not self-contained; they coincided roughly with a similar debacle in China in 2011 and 2012, where authorities rounded up and executed around 30 agents working for the U.S. (the New York Times first reported the extirpation of the CIA’s China sources in May 2017).
U.S. officials believe that Chinese intelligence obtained physical access to the transitional, or temporary, secret communications system used by the CIA to correspond with new, unvetted sources — and broke through the firewall separating it from the main covert communications system, compromising the CIA’s entire asset network in that country, Foreign Policy reported earlier this year.
If you want to know why John Brennan is angry, look at his record.
JD: David Dolan, he’s the man who gives us an Middle East news update on a weekly bases. Now this is essential for you who are students of Bible prophecy. David let me talk to you about Russia giving a warning to Israel that if they make any provocative moves in the air space or with air strikes in Syria they may have to face the Russian military; pretty strong language for the Russians to the Israeli’s isn’t it?
DD: Very much so Jimmy, that was a senior Russian General who made that comment on Tuesday. He said that hot heads should not resume any operations in Syria meaning of course Israel. He said any provocative actions as he called it on Syrian territory would be met by a Russian response. So that is a very very serious statement.
But Jimmy it comes after Israel’s army spokesman last weekend said that the 34 rockets that were fired from the Gaza Strip in just a 12 hour period on Friday and Saturday came at the orders of the Iranian leader in Syria General Salami that he ordered his forces his allied Islamic Jihad forces in the Gaza Strip to open fire. And Israel said at the time the army spokesman talked about this as did the Prime Minister later on and they said we will indeed respond. In fact, in an off the record interview that Prime Minister Netanyahu gave he hinted that the cooperation’s are continuing. Maybe not major airstrikes but he said we are still on the ground doing things in Syria that we can’t talk about. He said, we haven’t given up that game.
So, basically this boils down to what we’ve seen before Jimmy that the Israeli’s fear that any action in Gaza will be met by a response not just from Gaza but from Iranian forces in Lebanon and in Syria and maybe from Iran itself. But Jimmy it’s that Russian threat from the north with Iran that is the main thing on the Prime Minister’s mind and the main thing on Israeli minds.
JD: David Dolan with the details behind the Russian military action against Israel.
We report this information because it is setting the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.
Russia has a large military operation in Syria there to protect President Assad and his people. The Russian warning to Israel of military action against the Jewish state is a page out of Bible prophecy. In Ezekiel 38 Magog who is Russia today, Magog will lead a major force against Israel. Daniel 11:40 says that the king of the north, that would be Syria today, that Syria will be the first nation to attack Israel. This scenario is ready to happen.
JD: Ken yesterday I got a Twitter from Potus President of the United States Donald Trump he made the statement that the United States was going to re-implement the sanctions on Iran. So I guess now that means that the United States and Middle Eastern forces are going to brace for trouble over these new or renewed Iranian sanctions.
KT: Well it’s certainly possible the Iranians themselves are making a lot of noise about this. They’re calling the United States an illegal power where as they are legal and they are respecting the world order. They claim that we are not because these sanctions have not been approved by the United Nations. But the Iranians also know that they will pay a very high price for any direct attack on US forces in the Middle East.
Now they could attack us indirectly they could for example reinforce those Shabbat militia that I was telling you about in northern Iraq that are outside of Mosul that are in the Nineveh plain. They could also conduct provocative actions along the land bridge into Syria and on to the Lebanese border with Israel. There’s lots of things Iran can do. They have many many military forces throughout the region. I happen to think they’re a little bit over extended but I do not see them launching any kind of direct attack against the US. I think they know very well that the price would be very high.
JD: And that land bridge you’re talking about includes Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon all the way from Iran to the Mediterranean and that’s key for what their plans are for the future.
KT: That’s correct. Absolutely, and they’ve been testing that since last December when they opened it for the first time. We’ve been talking about that regularly here on this broadcast. You don’t hear a lot of people in the national media talk about it but it’s a very important event.
JD: Ken Timmerman and his insights on what Iran’s response may well be as the United States re-implaments the sanctions on the Islamic State of Iran.
We report this information because it is setting the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.
Remember President Trump withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal. As of today the United States has applied sanctions once again on Iran. The Middle East nations and the United States are braced for Iran’s reactions. We don’t know what Iran will be willing to do. We do know however that as we move deeper and deeper into the last days Iran will become a major player as foretold by the ancient Jewish prophets Daniel and Ezekiel, that was Daniel 11:44 and Ezekiel 38:5 where Iran is mentioned as Persia.
The stage is set for these prophecies to be fulfilled.

Orson Welles' final movie, "The Other Side of the Wind," will be available on Netflix on Friday.
It marks a huge cinematic moment, as the movie was considered lost forever due to Welles never finishing the movie before his death and its legal woes.
Some of the main people involved with picking up where Welles left off spoke to Business Insider about the decades-long process to get the movie to audiences.
42 years after Orson Welles was finally finished with his movie, “The Other Side of the Wind” (which took him 6 years to complete principal photography on), Netflix will release it on its streaming service Friday.
For movie lovers, it’s the ultimate “lost movie,” a work that the iconic director toiled over until his death on October 5, 1985, but never completed. For Welles fans, it’s a glimpse into the evolution of their maestro. He will always be known for making “Citizen Kane,” which many still regard as the greatest movie ever made, yet with this movie he proved he could make something as edgy and forward-thinking as the up-and-comers of the era like Dennis Hopper, Francis Ford Coppola, and William Friedkin.
But for those who have spent years (and in some cases decades) trying to get Welles’ final film to the public, this weekend marks the time they can finally take a giant exhale.
“I’m thrilled to be done,” producer Frank Marshall (behind the Indiana Jones and “Jurassic Park” franchises) told Business Insider with a laugh. He was also a production manager on “The Other Side of the Wind” when he was 25.
“It was a long and tortured road, at times,” producer Filip Jan Rymsza said looking back. He worked the last nine and a half years trying to settle the copyright issues surrounding the movie.
In many ways, the story of how “The Other Side of the Wind” finally made it to audiences is as epic as Welles’ ambitions for the movie itself.
6 years of 'the poor man's process'
In 1970, Welles was back in Los Angeles after living in self-exile in Europe for more than a decade. Sensing the independent film wave that was building in America following the success of Dennis Hopper’s “Easy Rider,” Welles was ready for a comeback, and the project that would bring the auteur back into the zeitgeist would be the strangely titled “The Other Side of the Wind.”
It’s a tale that feels as if Welles bottled everything that happened to him in the latter half of his life and spilled it into a script — though he always claimed the movie wasn't autobiographical.
You can be the judge.
The movie follows the final day in the life of famed director Jake Hannaford (played by a famed director, John Huston). Celebrating his 70th birthday, Hannaford is trying to get the finishing funds to complete his comeback movie after being in Europe for years. Told mostly using handheld, faux-documentary footage (some in color, some in black-and-white), the bulk of the movie takes place at his birthday party, where Hannaford has brought financiers, critics, filmmakers, and film students to come and see the footage of his movie (which is shot on pristine high-quality film).
Welles cast the party with real film students, real filmmakers (Dennis Hopper, Henry Jaglom, and Paul Mazurksy all appear chatting about the craft), as well as his good friend and fellow filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich in the role of Brooks Otterlake, a rising-star director who owes his career to Hannaford. This very much mirrored the real-life relationship Welles had with Bogdanovich. In fact, during the making of the movie, Bogdanovich went and made "The Last Picture Show," which would give him auteur status like his mentor.
NetflixAs depicted in Josh Karp’s book, “Orson Welles’s Last Movie: The Making of the Other Side of the Wind,” the six-year process to make “The Other Side of the Wind” was filled with many starts and stops as Welles constantly was looking for enough money to continue shooting. The script was changed almost daily by Welles, location shoots were often done without proper permits (a lot of it was shot at Bogdanovich’s home during the years Welles lived there), and scenes were pulled off in low-budget ways.
Take, for instance, one of the movie’s most memorable scenes: the sex scene inside a car featuring Welles’ collaborator and mistress Oja Kodar as the rain is pouring outside.
“It was the poor man’s process,” Marshall said of the scene, which he was on set for the shooting of. “We were just shaking the car to make it look like it was moving, would walk by with lights so it looked like cars were passing by, and had a garden hose for the rain.”
With Welles pinching pennies to get the movie finished, it was impossible to fathom how he’d find the money for post production.
Let's make a deal
For years, Welles was very much like Hannaford, searching for deep pockets to finish his movie. Even when Welles was honored with the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 1975, a portion of his acceptance speech was him pitching “The Other Side of the Wind.”
Sadly, by the time of his death, Welles only had a 40-minute cut of the movie to show for the six years of effort he put into making it. Left behind, along with the cut, were hours of footage, notes on how to shape it all into a feature film, and mass confusion about who really owned it all.
When Welles died in 1985, he left many of his assets to his estranged wife, Paola Mori, and following her death a year later, they were inherited by their daughter, Beatrice Welles. But Welles also left assets, like “The Other Side of the Wind” and other unfinished projects, to Kodar. Then there was a third party who claimed ownership, Mehdi Bushehri, the brother-in-law of the Shah of Iran.
In Welles’ search for self financing on “The Other Side of the Wind,” which gave him the artistic control he craved, the director found a French-based Iranian group headed by Bushehri. Through years of tension between Welles and Bushehri’s company during production, things only got worse when funding became non-existent after the Shah was overthrown in 1979. However, Bushehri continued to have an ownership stake in the movie.
This was the mess Marshall found himself in starting in the 1990s, when he tried to help Bogdanovich and others finish what Welles started. Though there was the 40-minute Welles cut they could show potential investors, most of the movie was locked away in a Paris vault.
Getty“I kept meeting with financiers — people from Canada, people from Europe, people from Malibu,” Marshall said. “They all had an idea of how to do this and the more we talked about it the more riskier it got for them. And then they would not come back.”
Then, when it seemed someone could pull it off and get the money needed, the three parties that needed to agree — Beatrice Welles, Oja Kodar, and Mehdi Bushehri — couldn’t.
“Everyone wanted the film to be completed,” Rymsza said, “they just wanted it done on their own terms. It was a minefield. And if you made an enemy with this group you made an enemy for life, so that was the tricky part.”
And as more and more potential financiers went to the wayside, the legend of “The Other Side of the Wind” only grew.
While writing the book, Karp was told stories of footage from the movie having been seen all over the world. The movie’s cinematographer, Gary Graver, kept footage of the movie in his refrigerator. Karp even remembers one of the directors who made a cameo in the movie, Paul Mazurksy, telling him that one day at a farmers’ market someone walked up to him and whispered, “Hey, you ever seen ‘The Other Side of the Wind?'” and that he was given an address and a time to see it.
“The stories were just crazy,” Karp said. “There was also stories of this mythical three-hour cut of the movie that people told me they saw that Welles was very close to completing.”
However, Karp could never prove that such a print existed. It's just another story that elevated the myth of “The Other Side of the Wind.”
Thanks Netflix, now open the vault
What finally led to the vault in Paris being opened so the movie could be completed and released was Netflix.
One of the biggest challenges a potential investor had to take, outside of the cost for the rights all three parties would agree on, was the unknown price tag for competing the movie. Both Marshall and Rymsza said they drew up separate budgets for the cost to complete post production, but without seeing the footage and its condition, they had one hand tied behind their backs.
“I didn't know it would be 100 hours of material,” Rymsza said. “I had done a paper inventory and so I knew the amount of film elements but it’s difficult to foresee how much material there is and a lot of these factors would drive the cost of post.”
NetflixRymsza would not divulge how much his original budget was, only saying it was a “significant price tag” and that they did go over budget to complete the movie.
Netflix announced in August it would give the funds needed to compete the movie (it also greenlit the documentary, “They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead,” in which director Morgan Neville looks back on the making of the movie).
Along with a score being made for the movie, and special effects done to complete the drive-in movie scenes, there wasn’t any sound for three weeks of shooting, so that was a major undertaking. Also, a team of negative cutters had to come in to reconstruct the original negative of the movie, which took months. However, Netflix never wavered in backing the project.
“Netflix supported us above and beyond,” Marshall said. “They were basically like, ‘We know you bought an old house and you’re going to have old house problems,’ which is exactly what happened. And we would go in and explain what we needed and they would say, ‘Okay.’”
So what is the movie really about?
“The Other Side of the Wind” is a fascinating look at a legend trying to get back on top. But is it autobiographical? It’s hard to not come to that conclusion after watching the movie, which seems to also explore Welles' complicated relationship with Bogdanovich.
The most compelling moments of the movie are when Hannaford and Otterlake are having conversations about their work and their friendship. And on set, it was more than obvious to those who were there that Welles was putting his relationship with Bogdanovich on screen.
Take, for example, at the end of the movie in the drive-in, when Otterlake is speaking to Hannaford and at one point says to his mentor, “What did I do wrong, Daddy?”
“Huston wasn't there that day for that scene,” Marshall recalled. “Peter was playing it to Orson. Orson was also directing him and his direction to Peter for that scene was, ‘It's us.’”
NetflixBogdanovich didn’t just drop everything to be in “The Other Side of the Wind” whenever he was called upon by Welles, or let him live in his home with his then-girlfriend Cybill Shepherd, he also invested money in the movie to keep it going. Welles was grateful, but had a weird way of showing it sometimes, like the time he went on “The Tonight Show” and made fun of Bogdanovich with guest host Burt Reynolds.
But despite all that, Bogdanovich has never faltered in trying to accomplish his mentor’s final request: finish “The Other Side of the Wind” if he died.
“Peter became a much more heroic figure to me in just how much he cared about Orson,” Karp, who is also a producer on the documentary, said about talking to Bogdanovich for the book. “Welles took a lot from Peter and Peter got a lot from Welles. Welles truly loved him but in a way that probably didn’t feel like he was being very appreciated at the time. But Peter is a true believer, and there’s a lot to be said about that.”
“The Other Side of the Wind” and “They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead” are both available Friday on Netflix.
If there were ever any reason to be nervous about Ben Affleck directing a film not set in Boston, all of those feelings vanished upon leaving the theatre after Argo, his latest film about the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979.
Last week during the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, series director Masahiro Sakurai introduced the first season of DLC by stating that five characters, which the team has not started work on yet, will come after the game has released. Sakurai introduced the season pass and apologized for being unable to announce the five characters yet. Today, he announced that those five characters have been chosen by Nintendo and basically ended discussion on the subject.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC line-up is now complete. This time the selection was made entirely by Nintendo. I decide if we can create a fighter based on their selection, then come up with the plan.
It’s great to dream about your favorite character joining the battle and I appreciate your passion, but please try to stay on topic when replying to tweets and refrain from flooding us, and other users, with requests when we're not specifically asking for feedback. Thank you!
Interestingly, this is one of the only times Sakurai has tweeted in English, suggesting that this is an official message that was officially translated and vetted. Sakurai tweeted twice, with the second tweet asking people not to flood them with character requests and to avoid doing so to other users. He then left it at that, simply thanking fans and signing off.
It's an odd series of tweets and decidedly uncharacteristic of Nintendo and Sakurai, who is not officially an employee of the company. The phrasing and necessity for a translation indicate that the team has been seeing high levels of feedback after the DLC announcement from fans asking for their favorite characters, thus Sakurai is cutting it off before it grows any further. With Super Smash Bros., fans can get very heated, with the E3 trailer prompting fans of some characters to threaten the director's life on Twitter.
It is interesting to note that the first tweet is in both English and Japanese, while the second is only in English.
Nintendo is also a historically quiet company that keeps things, like DLC specifics, well-guarded until they're ready to start talking about them. With the season of post-launch characters expected to extend all the way to February 2020, to talk about how they've already been chosen is surprising. Stating that Nintendo chose the characters also seems to imply that third party surprises are not on the table, though that might be assuming too much from the wording.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on Nintendo Switch on December 7. The first DLC character, Piranha Plant, arrives a few months after launch, but it is not counted among the five season pass characters.

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Nov 6, 2018 / 04:01 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Police in Papua New Guinea are moving sick refugees and migrants out of the capital city in preparation for a major economic conference, drawing ongoing criticism from the country’s Catholic leaders.
The refugees and migrants are being sent back to Manus Island off the northern coast of the country, where asylum seekers trying to reach Australia are being housed in poor conditions.
The Australian government has sent hundreds of asylum seekers to the island for processing since 2012, and around 70 men had been taken to Port Moresby, the capital, for medical treatment.
As many as 10 of the men being moved had not finished their treatment, but were told they would return in a month to complete it, Guardian Australia reported. One man reportedly attempted suicide after he was told he would be sent back to Manus Island without treatment.
Authorities are justifying the move by saying that the city’s hospital is needed for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference delegates and conference employees who may need medical treatment. APEC is scheduled to begin meetings in Port Moresby Nov. 12.
The Papua New Guinea Bishop’s Conference recently called for all the refugees and asylum seekers to be brought to Australia by Dec. 25, saying that their country cannot continue to provide adequate care.
“We are deeply concerned that the human rights of the refugees and asylum seekers have been breached as they were forcibly sent to [Papua New Guinea]; and Australia's policies has caused us reputational damage,” a panel convened by the bishops wrote Nov. 1.
“We, the participants are speaking on behalf of the women and children on Manus who are the victims of Australia's policies. The men have suffered enough from prolonged detention. Enough is enough. The time has come to let them go.”
About 650 migrant and refugee men are currently living on Manus Island, according to The Guardian. Conditions are bad, according to Behrouz Boochani, a Kurdish Iranian journalist, who said the men are suffering widely from mental and physical illness. The conditions at the camps have been condemned by Church leaders and human rights groups.
Australia has had a system of “third country processing” since 2012 for asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat without a valid visa. The system transfers the asylum seekers to other countries, where they are processed based on that country’s laws.
Many of those seeking asylum in Australia come from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Iran, travelling by boat from Indonesia. They are typically intercepted by the Australian navy before reaching land, and are then sent to detention camps in Papua New Guinea and Nauru, a small Micronesian nation.
The government of Australia made an agreement with the government of Papua New Guinea in 2013, providing that migrants sent to Papua New Guinea from Australia would be settled there if they are found to be refugees. Otherwise they would be sent back to their country of origin or another country where they have legal residence.
Papua New Guinea is facing a medication shortage, an outbreak of polio, increased rates of tuberculosis, and funding crises in health and education, according to The Guardian.

Stuxnet allegedly has a vicious little brother, or perhaps it is a malicious cousin; the complex malware was likened to being similar to Stuxnet but “more violent, more advanced and more sophisticated.”
Iran, according to the Times of Israel, admitted that its “infrastructure and strategic networks” were hit by a meaner, leaner version of Stuxnet. A TV news report added that the Iranians are “not admitting, of course, how much damage has been caused.”
The report came after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran needed to step up efforts to fight enemy “infiltration.” Reuters also reported that Gholamreza Jalali, the head of Iran’s civil defense agency, said, “Recently we discovered a new generation of Stuxnet which consisted of several parts ... and was trying to enter our systems.” Jalali didn’t go into more detail.
Memsaab, I love this film. Very, very much. Love the songs, the idea. RK as a truck driver. I can never compare RK's choices to AB's, which many people do, because there are many AB films that I haven't watched and I don't know how to compare the two. But, my time in India (90s onwards) makes me feel that RK wasn't appreciated enough. French President Emmanuel Macron has urged the creation of a “true, European army” to protect the continent from Russia, China and the United States.
"We have to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia and even the United States of America," Macron told Europe 1 radio on Tuesday, Agence France-Presse reported.
Pointing to recent decisions by President Donald Trump, the 40-year-old French leader warned that European security is at risk.
“When I see President Trump announcing that he's quitting a major disarmament treaty which was formed after the 1980s Euro-missile crisis that hit Europe, who is the main victim?” he asked. “Europe and its security.” The French president concluded that Europe needed a unified military in order to “protect” itself.
Macron has previously expressed his view that Europe should jointly coordinate military actions, the BBC reported. Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel has also backed such a plan, saying in June that it would be part of "the structure of defense cooperation.”
“It is up to us to guarantee European security,” Macron said in an August speech, adding that the continent could no longer rely on the U.S. for protection.
“President Macron's call for a greater European effort in defense derives from two sets of factors,” the BBC’s defense correspondent Jonathan Marcus explained, “his support for the greater European project on the one hand, but also horror at much that the Trump administration is doing on the other, with its overturning of treaties and so on.”
While Macron, who took office in May 2017, just a few months after Trump, initially appeared to have a positive relationship with the American president, they have since sparred publicly over numerous issues such as the Paris climate accords, trade tariffs and the Iran nuclear agreement. Last month, the French president stressed the importance of the Cold War–era Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in a direct discussion with Trump, after the White House signaled it would withdraw from the decades-old agreement.
Despite the French president’s warnings and concerns, he will host Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I on November 11 in Paris. At the end of October, Trump described the upcoming trip as “very exciting” in a tweet, and said he had just spoken to the French president to discuss the celebration.
However, Trump also described the European Union as a “foe” last summer. When asked about world powers he saw as threats to the U.S., the president mentioned the longtime U.S. allies first, before also pointing to Russia and China.
“Well, I think we have a lot of foes. I think the European Union is a foe, what they do to us in trade,” he said. “Now you wouldn't think of the European Union, but they're a foe."

Nation of Islam leader and prominent antisemite Louis Farrakhan chanted “Death to America” and claimed that “America has never been a democracy” on Sunday during a solidarity trip to Iran, ahead of the re-implementation of US sanctions this week.
According to Iran’s semi-official state news agency Mehr, Farrakhan said at a meeting with the Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei that America is conspiring against Iran.
“I understand how the enemies have plotted against the Iranian people and I would like to stay alongside you to stop their plots,” he said.
He also blasted American support for Saudi Arabia, Iran’s arch-rival in the region, and added, “Satan seeks to divide Muslims and wants them to kill each other, while God tells us in the Quran to be united.”
