Ha Vinh Tho leitet das Zentrum für Bruttonationalglück in Bhutan. Jahrelang hat er das Unglück in aller Welt erlebt, als Mitarbeiter des Internationalen Roten Kreuzes war er in vielen Regionen unterwegs, die von Krieg oder Naturkatastrophen getroffen waren. Er fragte sich, was er jenseits der humanitären Hilfe beim Roten Kreuz noch unternehmen könne, um die Welt zu verbessern. Dabei stieß er auf die Idee des Zwergstaats Bhutan, den Wohlstand einer Gesellschaft nicht nur am Wachstum des Geldes anzulegen, sondern offiziell am Glück auszurichten. Heute wird das Bruttonationalglück nicht mehr als "Träumerei aus Bhutan" belächelt, sondern weltweit aufgegriffen. Die Vereinten Nationen richteten eine Konferenz zum Thema aus, in Neuseeland und Wales wurden von der Regierung Programme zum Wohlbefinden und Glück der Bevölkerung aufgelegt. Bhutan steht als eine Art Labor dafür, wohin ein Grundrecht auf Glück führen kann und auch, welche Kehrseiten es mit sich bringt.
