Sixty Nations Attend Putin's Fourth Eastern Economic Forum, as Britain Tries to Start War with Russia in Syria      Cache   Translate Page
White Helmets rescue workers in the al-Sakhour neighbourhood of eastern Aleppo, Syria, in 2016

The Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation today announced that Arab and American TV camera crews have been sent to Jisr al-Shughur in Syria's Idlib province to begin shooting the footage of the planned, "false flag" chemical weapons attack being prepared by British assets, aiming to drag President Trump into a military attack on Syria. The Russians have provided evidence of the planned staging of an attack to the UN, the OPCW, and the U.S. State Department, but the British, French and the neo-cons in the U.S. are all repeating the mantra that Syria is planning a chemical weapons attack, and that there will be a full-scale military assault on Syria as soon as it happens. The fact that there is absolutely no military purpose for the government to kill a few civilians with chemical weapons is neglected, simply repeating ad nauseam that Assad is a monster who kills his own people. The fact that Idlib is largely under the control of terrorist organizations connected to al-Qaeda, which carried out the slaughter of innocents 17 years ago today in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, is an irony ignored by the war party, who are willing to join with that same al-Qaeda to overthrow yet another West Asian government which was no threat to anyone. That such an invasion could start a war with Russia and China, which could mean the end of civilization as we know it, is ignored.

The actual target of this British horror scenario is the danger, in their eyes, that President Trump will follow through on his intention to establish friendly relations with Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

In Russia yesterday, in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, 6,000 political and business leaders from 60 countries have gathered to attend the fourth annual Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) organized by President Putin. The concept is that the vast Russian Far East is a "New Frontier" for all of Asia — and in fact for the entire world, if they choose to participate. The EEF follows by exactly one week the historic Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing hosted by President Xi, with every African nation but one in attendance, nearly all of them heads of state or government.

What is demonstrated by these two international fora is that the majority of the world's nations and people are turning to Russia and China as leaders of a new paradigm, a hopeful future based on transforming the poverty and subservience of the colonial and neo-colonial era into an era of peace and development worldwide. To the spokesmen for the Empire — both within the U.K. and in the U.S. and Europe — this hopeful future for mankind is perceived as a deadly danger, the end of Empire itself. The fact that President Trump wishes to be part of the new paradigm, rejecting the "special relationship" with Perfidious Albion, is the cause of both the British coup attempt against the U.S. President, and of the insane provocation for war against Syria, and potentially against Russia.

The U.S. economy, meanwhile, is booming, relative to the past decade, in response to the stimulus implemented by the Trump tax cuts, tariffs on steel and aluminum, and cut backs on both regulations and the insane environmental restraints based on fake climate science. But the quadrillion-dollar-plus financial bubble created by decades of speculation and money-printing will not disappear through growth alone, and threatens to bring down the world economy when it crashes.

Trump's intention therefore, to befriend Putin and Xi, is essential not only for peace, but also for development. Only this combination of great nations and great cultures can bring about a New Bretton Woods conference, to put the Casino Mondial out of its misery, and to establish a new world financial system based on the common aims of Mankind. This is our task. As Schiller wrote in his poem The Artists: "The dignity of Man into your hands is given, It's keeper be! It sinks with you! With you it will be risen!"

#252 Ralph Merkle: Revolutionizing Democracy Using DAOs (rebroadcast)      Cache   Translate Page

Legendary scientist and cryptography pioneer Ralph Merkle joined us to discuss his recent paper on DAOs. Merkle examined how the voting mechanisms in today's democracies are flawed and how a decentralized, transparent DAO making decisions using prediction markets could create more efficient democratic systems.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Merkle proofs, Merkle Roots and his early forays into cryptography
  • Blockchains as living organisms
  • Why DAOs will be subject to a Darwinian evolutionary process
  • Why voting is flawed and we need new governance methods to save democracy
  • The concept of a DAO democracy
  • How prediction markets and futarchy would help govern a DAO democracy

Welcome to episode 58 of‚The Bitcoin Game, I'm Rob Mitchell. In January of this year, I saw lots of talk about the World Economic Forum's speeches and panels in Davos. Even Donald Trump spoke at this event. But the panel I was most interested in was called The Crypto Asset Bubble, and it featured Nobel Prize Laureate Robert Shiller. I didn't know any of the other panelists, but the one who stuck out to me the most was Jennifer Zhu Scott. She seemed very pro-Bitcoin and was a very eloquent speaker. I wondered why I'd never heard of her before. I immediately invited Jen to be a guest on my podcast, and we finally connected just a bit ago, thanks to Twitter. We cover many topics including the World Economic Forum, her favorite project, China, and her involvement in the hit HBO series, Silicon Valley.

Easy flowing, South Side-raised rapper Cole Hicks impresses with “May Day”      Cache   Translate Page

The Camel is packed to the gills with a full band on stage as big, brass-colored foil balloons spelling out "May Day" float over top. Cole Hicks, aka Nicole Hicks, finishes a verse and wipes the sweat off her forehead.

"When you love what you do, when your eyes burn, you close 'em and keep rapping," she says. Before long she slides into the hypnotic "Drip" as the crowd shouts the song's title between beats.

Born and raised in South Side's Blackwell neighborhood, Hicks, 30, has a masterful flow, fast-paced twang and attitude. She first achieved success over the local airwaves when she was only a tween and now she's turning heads with her first big release, "May Day," available online.

Marc Cheatham, host of the Cheats Movement podcast, calls her one of the most exciting MCs he's seen come out of Richmond in a decade.

"Not only is she well-rounded and technically sound, she has that it factor," he says, noting she can make a crowd hang on her every word. "She is gifted and can compete in any era of hip-hop, whether we're talking 2018 or the golden era of the '90s."

Looking back, Hicks still recalls the first time someone else heard her skills after her mom caught her rapping while she was grounded in her room.

"I was rapping about being on punishment and wanting to get out of it so I could write about other things: family, friends, the neighborhood," she says, laughing.

Her mother, a project management specialist, and father, a construction worker, often filled their house with classic sounds. He'd play soulful records from artists like Frankie Beverly and Maze while she would blast Biggie, Jay-Z and Naz. "We'd vibe out to all kinds of music," Hicks remembers.

As word spread about her talent, her sister gave her money for studio time at Da Spot, a famed rap studio located on Grace Street near Virginia Commonwealth University. "I recorded back then on actual tapes," she says.

Her first shot at local celebrity came during on-air cypher battles on 106.5 the Beat. Zxulu the Big Lip Bandit held regionally renowned battles, pitting one local talent against another in a battle of words, and the young Hicks, at the encouragement of family and friends, called in to compete.

"I sounded like a little kid and he told me I was too young and hung up," she says. Undeterred, she called back and proclaimed her supremacy. "I'll battle everyone at the radio station." It worked and he let her rap. Before long Lil Nikki, as she was known then, became a champion of the local on-air competition.

From there Hicks' legend began to grow. Rumors swirled about big label deals and one particular meeting, which brought Hicks face-to-face with Roc-A-Fella Records members at the studio itself. Many thought the 14-year-old prodigy had a label deal on the way, but that's not quite how it happened.

Before long real life caught up and schoolwork took precedence over artistic dreams. She went to college and has since learned other creative skills as part of the communications team with the Department of Social Services.

Then one day, sitting in a casino with her close friend B Rock, the two discussed her possible return to hip-hop. Hicks offered a challenge: "You produce me a beat and I'll rap over it." A week later, using only an iPhone app, Rock had crafted the beat that would coax Hicks back into the studio.

Her first release in years happened May 1, 2015, and featured her rapping over other folks' beats as a mix tape. It was enough to re-ignite her desire for her own record and she went back into the studio again with some of Richmond's modern legends — Michael Millions, Joey Gallow and NameBrand — to begin work on "May Day."

"We all knew each other and talked about linking up, and it finally happened and worked out," she says. "I had the mindset that I'd put something out on May Day, that was the goal, and then it turned into something that I couldn't have imagined it being."

Much of the record features themes she rapped about in her bedroom years ago — family, friends and growing up in South Side — but she's added more adult experiences and pieced them together, bridging the gap between then and now.

"There's highs and lows," she says. "It's about where I'm from, what I believe in and where I'm going."

Her goal is to reach the level of lyricism she sees from other rappers in town, mixing old and new sound to create something she and the city can be proud of.

"I think Richmond as a whole is really on it," she adds. "There's originality and lyricism coming out of this town." S

Cole Hicks performs on Saturday, Sept. 22, outside of Brewer's Café in Manchester as part of the Stay RVA Fest from 4 to 7 p.m.

ThinkProgress Censored By Facebook After Cheerleading Facebook Censorship      Cache   Translate Page

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

In an article last month titled “Facebook announces that fake accounts are now coming not just from Russia”, fauxgressive establishment apologia firm ThinkProgress falsely reported that I have been writing for an outlet that is alleged to be part of an Iranian propaganda campaign. I repeatedly broughtthis false claim to the attention of Casey Michel, the article’s author, telling him that ten seconds of research or any attempt to contact me would have shown him that the articles published by the outlet in question were just reblogs of earlier publications from my platform, but Michel ignored the many notifications he received from myself and my Twitter followers and went on merrily interacting with other posters. As of this writing, the article remains uncorrected.

In the article, Michel documented Facebook’s heroic efforts to shut down alleged Iranian propaganda outlets, ominously warning his readers that “Russia is by no means the only foreign adversary exploiting social media’s inherent openness.” In other articles for ThinkProgress, Michel is repeatedlyseen wagging his finger at Facebook and Twitter for not doing more to censor “Russian propaganda”, and in a July article titled “Facebook says both sides share fake news, defends Infowars’ presence on its platform  -  Mark Zuckerberg has an interesting way of prioritizing ‘high quality news’” another ThinkProgress author criticized Facebook for not censoring Alex Jones. Jones was censored by Facebook the following month.

So I think it’s understandable that those of us who have been warning of the dangers of internet censorship find it a bit funny to see ThinkProgress now complaining that it has been censored by Facebook.

ThinkProgress reports that its traffic from Facebook has been slashed by eighty percent due to a “fact check” by the Weekly Standard which, through a series of moronic mental contortions, found ThinkProgress guilty of reporting fake news about Brett Kavanaugh of all things. In a twist of irony which would be delicious if it weren’t so disgusting, the Weekly Standard is one of Facebook’s authorized “fact checkers”, and happens to be the brainchild of none other than bloodthirsty psychopath and rehabilitated #Resistance hero Bill Kristol.

ThinkProgress is part of a very large and diverse branch of progressive punditry whose ultimate job is to help centrist empire loyalists feel like leftist revolutionaries, and since 2016 one of the many appalling consequences of this bizarre environment has been the embracing of Iraq-raping neoconservatives like Kristol and Max Boot by Democratic Party loyalists. In a bid to stay relevant despite having been consistently wrong about literally everything in foreign policy for the last two decades, these murderous ghouls have repackaged themselves as a woke, cuddly alternative to the Trumpian faction of the Republican Party, and have been rewarded for their efforts with regular platforms on MSNBC and the Washington Post.

So with ThinkProgress getting censored by Facebook, you really couldn’t ask for a more clear-cut case of reaping what you sow. Nevertheless, it is wrong for anyone to be deprived of political speech, even if much of their political speech consists of attempts to silence the political speech of others.

And if there is anything more gross than political speech being regulated by Silicon Valley plutocrats and a NATO psyop factory, it’s political speech being regulated by Silicon Valley plutocrats, a NATO psyop factory, and Bill Kristol. ThinkProgress should not have its audience restricted.

All the “let me help you cheer for the establishment while pretending to oppose it” pundits who celebrated Alex Jones’ coordinated de-platforming last month are falling all over themselves to spin this new development in a way that allows them to feel as though they aren’t being proven wrong day after day after day, but of course they are. Facilitating the censorship of anyone’s speech is facilitating the censorship of your own speech in the long run, and we’re not even having to wait long to see it this time around. In a corporatist system of government, corporate censorship is state censorship; the massive new media corporations being implored to regulate which political speech gets an audience and which doesn’t have extensive ties to secretive government agencies and a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

I do not expect ThinkProgress to remain on Facebook’s restricted list for long; the real targets of internet censorship are not partisan outlets which prop up establishment politics and help legitimize America’s two-headed one party system. But that isn’t the point. The point is that Silicon Valley plutocrats, the NATO propaganda firm Atlantic Council, and the Weekly Standard should not be determining who gets an audience in the new media environment and who doesn’t. Nothing that has anything to do with Bill Kristol should ever have any power over anyone. If our choices are between letting people think for themselves and letting the guy who’s always wrong about everything determine what shows up in people’s news feed, the choice is obviously the one which doesn’t involve placing faith in the man who helped deceive America into butchering a million Iraqis.

Eternal Reich: Audio Insurgency 19 – ER 091218      Cache   Translate Page
er 091218a

This week’s Audio Insurgency sets off at a pace from the very first track with Elessar, who has really been showing how versatile he is recently. Houseschwitz then goes into overdrive with one of the few tunes on his ‘Glorious Master Rave’ album that doesn’t feature Adolf Hitler samples. All this dance-floor mayhem builds us up nicely for a new release from Stormking, his first for quite a while due to injury and you know it’s him right from the second those synth drums begin and the bass kicks in. Add guitar solo and hand claps and you have another Stormking classic that almost makes up for his absence.

Wolf212 winds things down with an ambient selection featuring Millennial Woes talking about how he became an anti-Semite, smoothly blending into the orchestral sounds of the Decency.

The heavenly harmonies of Too Much Gold start the guitar section off before handing over to Staatsfeind with their soundtrack to the recent Chemnitz demonstrations. A whole album has been released already by bands inspired by those events in Germany and we have two tunes from another movement compilation tonight as well, Reconquista Germanica, which is full of trad folk tunes guaranteed to get you in the mood for a White revolution. If you don’t turn the volume up for these two then you have forgotten what it means to live.

How can you follow something like that? Macht & Ehre do their best with a menacing piece of viking rock full of cascading twin guitar melodies that gets your head nodding and your feet tapping despite not understanding the language it’s sung in.

Landser have the penultimate slot with their laid-back singalong ‘Nordland’ showing how the simplest arrangements can sometimes be the most effective, while White Man’s Burden returns to finish the podcast off with a song about the hypocrisy and double standards that we see all around us.

Facebook Labels Christian Prayer ‘Hate Speech’      Cache   Translate Page
Facebook labels Christian prayer for children 'hate speech'
These days, it appears as if Facebook is censoring almost anything and everything, including Christian prayer.

A West Virginia-based Warriors for Christ page was informed by Facebook that a prayer for the protection of children violated the social media giant’s rules against hate speech.
Conservativefiringline.com reports: The prayer simply read, “I command the demons of perversion and witchcraft to leave the minds  of those precious children right now in the mighty name of Jesus.”
Facebook responded by saying the prayer “goes against our standards on hate speech so no one else can see it.”
We’re not certain how the prayer violates Facebook’s nebulous and apparently ever-changing standards, so we reached out to the company for clarification.  We still have received no response as of this writing.
Incidents like this, by the way, are part of the reason a majority of conservatives no longer trust the platform.
They are also part of the reason activist Chris Sevier drafted the Stop Social Media Censorship proposal, a measure now being eyed by several state lawmakers across the country.
The measure is explained in the following audio:
As Sevier explained here:
In my opinion, Facebook has perpetrated a form of fraudulent inducement, tortious interference of business relations, breach of the duty of care, unjust enrichment, and the intentional infliction of emotional distress by at first allowing conservatives and Christians to build a platform where they were supposedly free to express themselves only to then turn around and arbitrarily find some speech permissible and other speech impermissible.
If the measure passes, Sevier said, “those who have been banned or censored for their political and/or religious point of view will now have the means to hold those companies accountable.”

K.K. DOWNING On IAN HILL's Explanation For Why Guitarist Wasn't Invited To Rejoin JUDAS PRIEST: 'Complete Load Of Bollocks'      Cache   Translate Page
Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing has dismissed as a "load of bollocks" bassist Ian Hill's explanation for why he wasn't invited to rejoin the band following Glenn Tipton's decision to retire from the road due to his battle with Parkinson's disease. In a recent interview with Backstage Axxess, Hill said that the idea of bringing Downing back to PRIEST was never entertained. "When he retired, we took on Richie [Faulkner], you know, so he's playing all Ken's parts," Ian said. "So, it's not Ken's [parts] that are missing, it's going to be Glenn's parts that he would be playing. Really, Ken, what's he going to do? Come over to my side of the stage and play Glenn's parts? It wasn't his job, if you know what I mean, that had become vacant. It was Glenn's. Glenn and Ken are two excellent guitarists, [but] both are completely different in styles and sounds, and for Ken to be playing Glenn's parts anyway, it really wouldn't have sounded right anyway. We never thought about Ken for that reason." Asked by the "Cobras & Fire" podcast what he thought of Hill's justification for why K.K. wasn't contacted about coming back to PRIEST, Downing said (hear audio below): "Complete load of bollocks. If I had rejoined the band, obviously, I'd step into my role — that's where people would expect me to be — and Richie is already playing Glenn's parts anyway, and we'd do that. It wasn't the case where I was gonna play Glenn's parts and Richie plays mine. "I was thinking, 'Ian, was it too early in the day or too late in the evening when you came up with this idea?'" K.K. continued. "I don't know. But bless him — bless him, because we were like brothers; we went to infant school together and secondary school together, and we lived our career together. But I'm not totally happy about what's being said. Ian seems to be [saying] things like, 'None of the fans are missing K.K.,' and, 'Richie has brought a new energy to the band.' And I'm going, 'Ian, dude, on that last tour, I was the energy. I slowed down because people weren't keeping up with me.'" Downing added: "That's a true story. 'Cause I started off that tour, I played a few shows, and then Scott [Travis, drums] made a comment, and he said, 'What do you mean, man? It's your show.' And I'm thinking, 'Did he think I'm trying to steal the limelight by doing what I've always done?' Then I started to back off, and then I was in an unhappy place from that point — I didn't want everybody to think I was trying to steal the limelight when I wasn't. 'Cause Rob's [Halford, vocals] reading his Autocue [teleprompter system] — he's slowed down — Glenn's going over there for a beer in between every song, and I'm thinking, 'Hmm… I don't know.' "So I'm thinking, Ian, get a grip with yourself, mate. You've just replaced the energy with some energy. Fine — well, great. But that's not moving forward, Ian." Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease four years ago — after being stricken by the condition at least half a decade earlier — but only recently announced he was going to sit out touring activities in support of PRIEST's latest album, "Firepower". The guitarist, who is now 70 and has performed on every PRIEST record since the band's 1974 debut set, "Rocka Rolla", is not quitting the band, but simply cannot handle the rigorous challenges of performing live. He is being replaced on tour by "Firepower" album producer Andy Sneap, also known for his work as the guitar player in NWOBHM revivalists HELL and cult thrash outfit SABBAT. "Firepower" was released in March via Epic. JUDAS PRIEST and DEEP PURPLE have joined forces for a co-headlining North American tour. The 25-date trek launched August 21 in Cincinnati and will conclude September 30 in Wheatland, California. Downing's autobiography, "Heavy Duty: Days And Nights In Judas Priest", will be released on September 18 via Da Capo Press. The book was co-written by the Scottish author and journalist Mark Eglinton, whose previous collaborations include "Official Truth, 101 Proof" with Rex Brown of PANTERA and "Confessions Of A Heretic" with BEHEMOTH's Adam "Nergal" Darski.

2. still
3. rain and noise
4. live
5. where are you
6. dawn
7. match point (outro)

------------------------------------------------------

1. her

2. still

3. rain and noise

4. live

5. where are you

6. dawn

7. match point (outro)

tema : F7(#11) - Am7(11) - Gm7(9) - Bb7(#11,13)

outro : F7(#11) - G7(9, b13) - DbM7(13) - Eb7sus4(b9)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

2. waves =

  • Windows file sharing comes to Chromebooks

You can run Android apps on Chromebooks. You can run Linux programs on Chromebooks. Heck, you can even run Windows programs on Chromebooks. But one thing you couldn't do natively on a Chromebook is read and write files on a Windows PCs or Windows and Samba servers. Things change. With the forthcoming release of Chrome OS 70, you can access network file shares from Chromebooks.

To do this, once Chrome OS 70 is available to all users, open Settings, look for "Network File Shares", click the "Add File Share" button, and enter your user name and password. Then, click "Add" button and open the Files app to browse your newly mounted shared folder. That's all there is to it.

  • 5 examples of Prometheus monitoring success

Prometheus is an open source monitoring and alerting toolkit for containers and microservices. The project is a hit with lots of different organizations regardless of their size or industrial sector. The toolkit is highly customizable and designed to deliver rich metrics without creating a drag on system performance. Based on the organizations that have adopted it, Prometheus has become the mainstream, open source monitoring tool of choice for those that lean heavily on containers and microservices.

Conceived at SoundCloud in 2012, Prometheus became part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) in 2016 and in August 2018, CNCF announced Prometheus was the second "graduated" project in the organization's history.

Prometheus provides a key component for a modern DevOps workflow: keeping watch over cloud-native applications and infrastructure, including another popular CNCF project, Kubernetes.

Song: David August - 33Chants

What's so good?

If you like Nicolas Jaar and Darkside, this song is going to leave you drooling. At least that's what it did to me. My 8-month-old daughter would be proud of the puddle I've left on my keyboard. The Italian producer is getting ready to release a new album called  D’ANGELO at the start of next month, and this comes as the latest offering. It's smooth yet groovy, interlacing unique instrumentation with an easy-going beat and smooth-as-butter vocals. The complete package is one of the best songs I've heard in the last 48 hours. And that's saying something. For more from David, follow this link.

Song: Still Corners - Black Lagoon

What's so good?

I'm not sure how many times I have already said this in the summer of 2018, but as it is now September I'll say it just once more: this is one of my songs of the summer. Dark synth-pop, underrated indie band, dreamy female vocalist? Now, this is speaking my language.   "Black Lagoon" is the first release off of Still Corners' just-released album, Slow Air, via their own label, Wrecking Light.  "Black Lagoon" is eerie and atmospheric, evoking feelings of the desert heat.  Fitting, as the record was recorded during a hot spell in Austin, Texas. Singer Tessa Murray croons ethereally while the track swirls over an ambient haze, drawing the listener into Still Corners purpose-built atmosphere.   All four of Still Corners' albums are worth a listen. Start with "Black Lagoon" and tuck in.

World Economic Forum and the Chinese Cryptocurrency Space      Cache   Translate Page
Let's Talk Bitcoin

On the latest episode of The Bitcoin Game, host Rob Mitchell explains the recent trip he took to the World Economic Forum. Based in Davos, Switzerland, this international conference featured a wide number of economic experts and panelists within the international financial industry.

Sitting on one such panel titled “The Crypto Asset Bubble,” Jennifer Zhu Scott, a founding partner at Radian, later came on this week’s episode of The Bitcoin Game to discuss the trajectory of the future cryptocurrency industry worldwide, as well as her opinions on the space in her home country of China.

Becoming interested in cryptocurrency at a very early stage, Scott purchase bitcoins less from a fervent belief that it would gain value than from a desire to hold a piece of the history of decentralized technology.

As an early adopter who hails from Western China, Scott explains that she became personally invested in cryptocurrency for the fact that it is an untouchable way to store value. In particular, this is important to Scott because her family experienced the brunt of what can happen to people fully reliant on centralized monetary systems — her family lost much of their wealth and property after the Nationalists’ 1949 defeat in the Chinese Civil War and the rise of Mao Zedong.

Bringing up some of the conversations previously addressed at the World Economic Forum, Scott went on to discuss the desire for small, wealthier nations like Switzerland and Oman to become crypto-friendly hubs and the Chinese government’s motivations to crack down on decentralized platforms.

Compõem a coligação do candidato o MDB, PP, PRB, PR, PSC, PTB, PHS, PMB, PODE, DC, PTC, PATRI, PSD, AVANTE, PSL e PROS.
Veja algumas propostas

The 10 Best Platforms to Create and Sell Online Courses      Cache   Translate Page

Teaching an online course is a great way to leverage your skills and earn a side income at the same time. No matter what you do best—marketing, writing, coding, hand-lettering, or anything in between—you'll find scores of professionals and enthusiasts eager to learn from you. If your course takes off, it could even become a full-time gig.

But simply having the expertise to teach is not enough: You'll also need the right set of tools.

You'd be surprised how many nuts and bolts are involved in creating an online course: web hosting, domain name, website design, video and content hosting, quiz and survey tools, payment gateways, email providers…the list goes on. Online course platforms offer all these tools and more, so you can focus on what matters: building a professional course for your students.

What Makes a Great Online Course Platform?

For this piece, we only considered platforms for building and selling an online course, which means we did not consider learning management systems (LMS). While the terms are often used interchangeably, LMSs are generally used either in a school setting or to help companies train their customers and employees. The platforms covered below, on the other hand, are designed for individual creators to earn money by selling their courses.

Online course creation platforms can be broadly divided into two categories:

  • Course marketplaces
  • Course creation software

In a marketplace, your course is a part of a catalog, and you have the option to customize your course landing page but not much else aside from the course content. Most marketplaces let you publish a course for free but take a share of course sales. The major advantage: Course marketplaces provide you with an existing student base, so if you don't have much of an online presence yet, you might want to dabble with these first.

Course create software, on the other hand, offers many more customization options. You can create branded landing pages, choose from multiple content formats when building your course, and get the necessary tools to market your course. These usually charge a fixed monthly fee, and some platforms also charge a transaction fee.

Unsurprisingly, there's no one-size-fits-all solution for creating a profitable course. Your ideal course creation platform is unique to your needs and goals. Are online courses your bread and butter? Then you need a platform that helps you reach the maximum number of students. Does teaching and engaging with students excite you? Then a course creator with interactive tools would work well. Are you creating a course to engage your existing audience? Then you'll want a tool with robust marketing features.

While every platform has its own unique selling point, the platforms we've covered below meet certain criteria:

  • Each marketplace and course creation software solution supports video, audio, PDFs, and images.
  • Each marketplace and course creation software solution offers varying levels of real-time interaction with students.
  • Each course creation software solution gives you the option to create scheduled as well as self-paced courses.
  • Each course creation software solution takes care of web hosting, custom domains, backups, and security.
  • Each course creation software solution is equipped with basic marketing and payment tools, including advanced options for more expensive plans.

Online Course Marketplaces

Udemy (Web, Android, iOS)

Best online course marketplace for launching your first course

Udemy interface for creating a course

While the earliest massive open online courses (MOOCs) made learning accessible, Udemy took it a step further: It made teaching online possible. Today, the platform has over 24 million students enrolled in its courses and an instructor base of 35,000.

To create a paid course on Udemy, you first have to apply to become a premium instructor. Once approved, you'll see a series of easy-to-follow steps to help you create your first course. As you plan course content, keep in mind that all courses need at least 30 minutes of video and five lectures. You're also welcome to add quizzes, assignments, coding exercises, and discussion prompts.

Why launch your first course on Udemy? Because the platform offers loads of support for creating and marketing a course. For example, if you're not sure if your video lessons are up to snuff, you can submit a sample for review and get feedback on video and audio, along with suggestions for equipment. And for tutorials on planning a course, filming your first video, and related topics, Udemy offers the Teach Hub with tips and tricks. Udemy also has an active Facebook group, StudioU, where you can interact with instructors and bounce course ideas off each other.

If you're struggling to make your first few sales, Udemy's tailor-made marketing programs will offer support. Get your course featured in their email blasts, be a part of site-wide discounts, or opt for Udemy's affiliate marketing program. All of these programs are optional, and depending on the promotional channel you choose, Udemy takes a share of course sales.

Finally, Udemy's marketplace insights help you select the perfect course topic and see how it stacks up against other courses on the platform—which is important because of the size of the marketplace you're competing with. Similar to Google Analytics, this feature tells you how popular a topic is on Udemy, its search volume, and related keywords. You can also see the number of existing courses for a topic, top earning courses in the category, monthly revenue earned, and best promotion channels (Udemy discovery, Udemy search, external sources, paid ads).

To put it simply, with Udemy, you're in good hands.

Udemy Price: Free for selling a premium course. Udemy charges 3% revenue share on course sales made by instructor coupons, 50% revenue share on courses found through organic search on Udemy or through a Udemy promotion, and 75% revenue share on course sales through Udemy's paid user acquisition channels. (Note: Revenue share does not include processing fees charged by PayPal or Payoneer, or mobile platform fees for mobile course sales.)

Skillshare (Web, Android, iOS)

Best online course marketplace for teaching creative skills

Skillshare course creation interface

If you're an entrepreneur, designer, writer, photographer, or blogger looking to teach your craft online, Skillshare is great for teaching creative skills. You'll find courses on all kinds of topics, both popular and niche: marketing, photography, cooking, hand painting, doodling, and even wall hanging.

The platform offers a membership plan for students that gives them access to all of its 22,000+ premium courses. As for creators, it's free to sign up and publish a course, but if you want to get paid, it must be a part of Skillshare's premium catalog.

Free or premium, Skillshare classes have three major moving parts: video lessons, a project, and community discussion. Each class includes 20-60 minutes of video, broken down into 2-5-minute lessons. The practical project then ensures hands-on experience. For instance, a social media class project might require students to promote their Instagram account, or a writing class might require students to draft a pitch. Finally, the community portion of a class allows students to post their work.

Instead of favoring final outcomes, Skillshare encourages students to share their progress, garner feedback, and tweak their work accordingly—which is perfect for the creative topics you'll be teaching.

Skillshare Price: Free for creating a premium class. Skillshare pays instructors $10 for premium membership referrals and royalties for minutes watched in a premium class each month.

Eliademy (Web)

Best online course marketplace for creating a traditional MOOC

Eliademy discussions tab

Traditional MOOCs tend to follow a similar format, with lessons, discussion threads, and tests. If you prefer to use this template rather than designing your own course structure, Eliademy offers the tools to help you build one—and share it with the existing audience of 40,000+ students. Some of the most popular topics on the platform are business law, arts and design, social sciences, technology, and philosophy.

Eliademy is global-friendly, helping you create free and paid MOOCs in several languages such as French, Italian, and Portuguese. You can even target a specific country while creating your course.

Similar to MOOCs offered by universities, Eliademy courses are made up of different tabs for lectures, quizzes, graded tests, and discussion forums. Along with text and images, you can add content from external sources such as Prezi, Slideshare, Vimeo, and YouTube to your course. And if you're an Evernote user, you can sync your account and add your notes to lessons.

Community forums are an essential part of any MOOC, and Eliademy enables this with the Discussions option. Use this tab to review content and make course announcements. The Tasks tab then lets you add quizzes and assignments. And at the end of the course, you have the option to offer a free online certificate or a premium printed certificate.

Eliademy Price: Free for 30% commission on course sales; $11.60/month plus $2.32/user/month Premium plan for creating confidential courses, unlimited webinars, course landing pages, and 10% commission on course sales.

Online Course Creation Software

Teachable (Web, iOS)

Best online course creation software for marketing your course

Teachable interface

Teachable helps savvy course creators grow and nurture an online audience. To begin with, the platform offers various options to customize the look and feel of your course. Build a website that reflects your brand, create sales pages for launching your course, and if you happen to be tech savvy, use the Power Editor to tinker with the code. If not, edit the templates available. Teachable's course builder accepts files from Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, among other content formats.

There's flexibility when pricing your course too: Offer courses on their own or in bundles, and choose between a one-time fee, a payment plan, or a subscription. When you're ready to launch, create coupon codes to see a quick boost in course sales. To build a sales team for your course, use the platform's built-in affiliate marketing option: Simply add affiliates and they will get a percentage of course sales; no third-party integration required.

Teachable's native email marketing tool lets you filter and message students when they enroll in a course, redeem a coupon, or complete a course. The platform also helps you collect student feedback and uncover insights about your course using Google Forms and surveys. If you'd like to keep in touch with students after they've completed your course, add them to your email list with Teachable's integrations. As they say, the money is in the list.

Teachable Price: From $39/month for the Basic plan, which includes custom domain, email and affiliate marketing, coupon codes, drip course content, and a 5% transaction fee.

Automate Teachable with Teachable's Zapier integration.

Podia (Web)

Best online course creation software for putting up a digital storefront

Podia course creation interface

Podia lets you build an online store for your digital content. Create online courses, digital downloads, and even membership sites, all as part of one digital storefront.

All Podia storefronts have a similar template, which is helpful if you find too many options overwhelming. Each store's landing page includes an overview, a "What's included" section, a content section, FAQs, and creator bios. And all courses, memberships, and digital downloads have a separate landing page.

Once you create an online course, you can publish it immediately or pre-launch it to collect emails. If you have additional resources to supplement your course—cheat sheets, eBooks, videos, audio, text, checklists—sell them as a digital download; you can also bundle and sell the two together.

Online content creators often try to nurture an online community on platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn. This can work, but you're often at the mercy of algorithmic changes and the rules of the platform you choose. Podia allows you to create your own private membership site, with different membership plans, perks, and content for members. Share updates with your community, notify them about new products, and watch your business grow.

Podia Price: From $39/month for the Mover plan for online courses, digital downloads, email marketing, and zero transaction fees.

Automate Podia with Podia's Zapier Integration.

Thinkific (Web)

Best online course creation software for building a course from scratch

Thinkific template options

Putting together your first online course can be daunting. How many lessons should you include? Where should you add assignments and quizzes? What other file types should you include? Thinkific takes the guesswork out of course creation with its simple and ready-to-use templates.

There are two parts to creating a course on Thinkific: course material and landing page. To get started, choose from the following templates: mini-course, flagship course, digital download, membership bundle, and webinar replay. Unlike other course builders, where you start with a blank slate, Thinkific templates provide helpful cues and tips to build a valuable course. Apart from video lessons, the templates are pre-populated with sample quizzes, downloads, surveys, and instructor messages, at regular intervals throughout the course. Add or remove content as you see fit, or follow the template as is.

Thinkific's website builder is one of the easiest to use. Choose the pages you want to include, add your copy, pick a theme, and you're done.

Thinkific Price: Free for unlimited courses and students, course upsells, payment gateway, and 10% transaction fees; from $49/month for the Essentials plan for coupons and promotions, course bundles, marketing and email integrations via Zapier, drip content, and 5% transaction fees.

Automate Thinkific with Thinkific's Zapier integration.

Kajabi (Web)

Best online course creation software for marketing a course on autopilot

Kajabi marketing automation page

Kajabi gives marketing superpowers to busy course creators. Its marketing blueprints, called Pipelines, help you connect landing pages—for course launches, special offers, and more—to checkout pages, with just a few clicks.

Here's an example: The promotional offer pipeline consists of three pages. The first lets you collect emails in exchange for a free downloadable such as an eBook or cheatsheet. When a visitor enters their email, they're taken to the second page: a sales page, where you can offer a discount on your courses or products. If they choose to purchase, they're taken to the third page: a checkout page. And that's it.

You can also choose what to do with the emails you collect. Add them to an email sequence, remind them about your special offer, or send them a thank-you note after they purchase. Kajabi has templates for all kinds of pages. Select a Pipeline, add your content, and your marketing machine is all set.

Templates can be handy, but if you want to create your own automations, Kajabi offers a number of if-then scenarios to choose from. When a student completes an assessment, fills a form, cancels a subscription, or has been inactive for a while, you can send them an email, register them for an event, or unsubscribe them from an email list. Given that email is at the core of all its features, Kajabi also has a native email provider that helps you track how many of your emails are opened.

Kajabi Price: From $129/month for the Basic plan for one site, five products, 25 pipelines, and 25,000 marketing emails.

Automate Kajabi with Kajabi's Zapier integration.

Ruzuku (Web)

Best online course creation software for hosting webinars

Ruzuku webinar creation page

Most course creation platforms favor self-paced courses, offering little to no interaction with students. Ruzuku fills this gap with its native video streaming option. Host webinars at any time during your course and interact with students in real-time.

Use Ruzuku's built-in teleconferencing service or an external service such as Ustream or Livestream. Notify students about an upcoming webinar, and when it's time, head over to the Events page to start the call. Convert presentations and other content into a PDF and add them to your call. While the call is in progress, students will be able to view your presentation on their screen, along with a live chat screen on one side, which allows you to interact with students during the call. When you're done with your webinar, you'll find its recording available and ready to share. Note that live chat content is not available once the call is complete.

Ruzuku Price: From $99/month for the Bootstrapper plan for a single instructor, unlimited courses and students, payment gateway, and coupons.

WizIQ (Web, Android, iOS)

Best online course creation software for setting up a virtual classroom

WizIQ course creation interface

Like other platforms, WizIQ helps you create and sell self-study courses and mock tests, but its flagship feature is the ability to host live classes. While similar to webinars, WizIQ's virtual classrooms are packed with teaching tools: whiteboards, live YouTube video streaming, screen sharing, live chat, and a polling option. This makes the platform ideal for tutors, professors, and even remote companies who wish to train employees, along with individual course creators.

Add live classes to your self-paced courses to help students understand the material better. A single virtual classroom can accommodate more than 200 attendees. Open multiple whiteboards to explain concepts and illustrate diagrams. Teach any subject with ease with the various geometric shapes, graphs, circuit diagrams, and maps available. You can also share files, presentations, or videos from your library. The Raise Hand feature and live chat options allow students to ask questions, while you can start a poll to get feedback in real-time.

If teaching is more important to you than selling your course, you'll find WizIQ's platform a perfect fit.

WizIQ Price: From $80/month for the Lite plan for 100 attendees, virtual classes, online courses, tests, and 40 recordings per month.

Learnworlds (Web, Android, iOS)

Best online course creation software for creating an online school

Learnworlds social interface

Ever dreamt of starting your own school? Now you can. Learnworlds helps you set up an online school website with multiple teachers and a course catalog. Add instructors and select the courses you want them to teach. While instructors can author courses, they cannot publish a new course or change general settings. As admin of your school, offer as many courses as you like, with various pricing options. For an added fee, you can even get a branded app for your school.

Learnworlds' course builder has a number of unique tools. When adding content to your course, upload videos from your computer or Vimeo.           $uicideboy$ Suffer Through Their Debut. So Will You.      Cache   Translate Page

None

There's a big chance that one look at $uicideboy$ makes you roll your eyes. In press photos, they're usually covering their face with middle fingers, but you can always see $krim's bleached blonde dreads flowing from his white, tattooed face. The other guy, Ruby da Cherry, looks like the custodian at your local high school who chilled a bit too hard with the kids but pulled it off because he had the weed plug. Their music videos usually see them smoking blunts or falling off skateboards or performing to insanely lit warehouses, imagery that is all doused in a pinch of horrorcore. The aesthetic is acute. It works.

They're definitely too edgy for their own good, but that's the whole appeal. In fact, I do not doubt their authenticity for a second. When they showed up on Adam22's No Jumper podcast in 2015, $krim explained just how high the stakes were: "if $uicideboy$ didn't happen, I'd blow my fucking head off." You don't look like this, make 43 projects in four years, and write all of your songs about the grimmest, ugliest forms of depression without meaning every word. No wonder it resonates with millions.

It doesn't take long on their official debut album before $uicideboy$ are rapping "It feels like I'm cursed / Hopefully soon I'll return to the dirt", and you know exactly what you're getting into. It's easy to try and laugh it off until you remember that Lil Peep was singing shit like "Imma die young / Imma get killed" for years, and people treated him like an emo poster boy self-parody until he actually did die. Comparisons to Peep, another white, tattooed young man who made music that was unapologetically sad, are inevitable, but where Peep adopted the sing-song cadences of Good Charlotte, $uicideboy$ sample Three 6 Mafia and don't touch Auto-Tune. People will rightfully cite their genre-fluidity as a strength, but at their core, $uicideboy$ are a rap group. Even if their aesthetic is headline-grabbing, genuine, and fully-formed, they rap on all their songs, so rapping is what they need to be judged for. Unfortunately, every time they rap on I Want to Die in New Orleans, the album falls apart a little bit more. Every time they sing, it goes to complete shit. $uicideboy$ have the charisma to spearhead a movement, but their voices are their own worst enemies.

It's not like they are doomed from inception. Ruby has a penchant for putting together momentous flows, even though his voice has the tuneless quality of someone awkwardly singing along to a song they are listening to through headphones with no concept of how they actually sound. $krim is unquestionably the stronger of the two, with a low, guttural croak that commands every track. The best songs on here see them going back and forth, bouncing off each other, and emphasizing $krim's performances. Ruby is hit-or-miss throughout the project; at his best, he is the melodic vehicle of darkness at the center of these tracks, but when he uses his voice in the wrong ways, this album can be borderline unlistenable. "122 Days" sees him attempting to harmonize over a chorus that desperately grasps for the anthemic, but the mixing is so flat, and his voice is so off-pitch that it's almost cringe-worthy. $krim eventually comes in and reclaims the song, but at this point, even he sounds tired, and this is only five songs in.

The lyrics are exactly what we've come to expect; a depraved, unflinching gaze at self-loathing, decay, and suicidal tendencies. They sound numb to it at this point, so it makes sense that the listening experience is as grey and lifeless as the themes. However, that doesn't make it particularly fun to listen to. The aesthetic shock value doesn't bleed onto the music at all, and most of this album is a drag, zeroing in on the least interesting sonic tendencies of cloud-rap and horrorcore.

None

If the music was as over-the-top and innovative as it acts like it is, it could get away with its messy and ugly moments, but when this album tests the listener, it isn't because it pushes sonic boundaries and gets too real. It's because its repetitive, cliché-ridden lyrics and terrible vocal performances are genuinely hard to listen to, let alone find value in. You can cram a song with violent imagery and the most harrowing cries for help, but it won't transcend into something meaningful unless it is backed up by personality and sounds half decent. No matter how much I trust that $uicideboy$ have good reason to be rapping about "meeting the reaper" and how they "bite the head off a bat like Ozzy", I Want to Die in New Orleans sounds like them checking off a list of empty horrorcore clichés and suffocating in the process.

When $uicideboy$ play to their strengths and talk their typical talk, like on "Phantom Menace" or "Carrolton", the bangers are functional if the beat is good. At the very best, this album is still insipid and dry, but it proceeds with purpose and can hold its own. However, it falls off a cliff on songs where they attempt to do anything more. There are moments on "Long Gone" and "Meet Mr. NICEGUY" where layers of awful singing pile on top of each other and, dear god, there is really no place for it. Maybe it would work if it was passionate or dynamic, but neither $krim nor Ruby should ever try to sing, let alone without autotune. The passages where they do are so fucking painful. They sound like they are being forced to sing. They sound like they have never heard good singing before. I'm sorry, no amount of production could save how bad they sound, but there is not even any production trying to. It's all there for you to hear, and it's horrendous.

There would be redemption in this if it didn't happen so often, or if the highs were higher, or if the album was cohesive. However, no number of unexplained news clips about New Orleans can stamp this album with geographic significance, and none of the dark Soundcloud bangers can justify this album's existence. $uicideboy$ misses sting a lot more than their hits, and what they lack in substance and talent is so apparent that they probably should have never tried to make a full album. If they haven't already won you over, there's no reason this will. But they probably don't care and why should they? As Ruby puts it, "'I don't give a fuck' is my fucking epithet." They're doing something right, and that's all that matters. It's just definitely not singing. Or making albums.

Reema's Dreamy Take On 'Sunny Afternoon' Reinvents A Classic      Cache   Translate Page
Reema
It's a wistful, electronic leaning cover...

Reema has always shied away from releasing covers.

After all, she hardly needs to; a highly productive Berlin based talent, her own work speaks clearly on her behalf.

But a few songs return to her again and again, more like memories than actual pieces of music.

Developing a close relationship with The Kinks catalogue, Reema has always been fascinated by their hit 'Sunny Afternoon'.

Her wistful take on the original is an electronic leaning re-work, with the soothing vocal containing pangs of poignancy.

"'Sunny Afternoon' was actually the first song I learned to play when I was a kid," she explains. "I had a 'Best Of The Kinks' album that I played to death and a 'Kinks' songbook; I think I even had a badge..."

"I don’t usually do covers and this is actually the first time I’ve recorded one, but a really lovely friend of mine in Berlin, Anja, said she'd love to hear me do a version of the song. This led to a jam between myself and an incredible producer and friend, Catcilla. He wrote a beautiful chord progression and after a couple of glasses of wine, I sang the song."

"We loved the performance because it reminded us of the atmosphere of that afternoon – apt, I know – and so Catcilla polished it into the track it is now, while maintaining the ethos of the original recording."

Tune in now.

Premiere: Race Banyon - 'Move With Us'      Cache   Translate Page
Race Banyon
Intriguing newcomer from New Zealand...

New Zealand artist Eddie Johnston has been making music as Race Banyon for almost as long as he can remember.

Drawn towards electronic music, he felt strangely alone, aware that his home city of Wellington wasn't exactly awash with similar minds.

He persevered, though, piecing together track after track, making mistakes but also enjoying successes, all on his own terms.

Now he's ready. New single 'Move With Us' recalls Jon Hopkins or James Holden, with its experimental take on melody and structure matched to a certain degree of directness.

He comments: "I want to make music that connects with people - in any way I can. With both projects it's been about having honest emotions and presenting them in a way that's accessible to people. I'm not interested in making some sort of elitist modular techno or whatever. It's pop music, really."

The start of something new, and very potent, 'Move With Us' is online now.

Track Of The Day 13/9 - Saint Clair      Cache   Translate Page
Saint Clair (Credit: Roo Kendall)
'I'll Stay'

Saint Clair is the work of French-speaking North Londoner Emma Topolski, the name itself a nod to her Scottish heritage.

Songwriting of a pristine vintage, the deep roots of her music are matched to a forward-facing dynamic, matching classicism - think The Beatles, Neil Young - to the soporific soul of James Blake, say, or Frank Ocean.

New EP 'D2' is out now, and to celebrate its release Clash is able to share new song 'I'll Stay'.

The vocal strains against its limitations, the lyrics speaking starkly about the need to retain control.

A balance of beautiful melody and suppressed feeling, 'I'll Stay' is one of Saint Clair's most succinct, moving vocals yet.

She explains: “'I'll Stay' is about wrestling with your demons, trying to keep a sometimes irresistible urge under control. But also about hope and the promise of victory.”

Tune in now.

Penn State has 6th-best playoff odds; James Franklin still doesn't care for Friday night games, and more      Cache   Translate Page

Today's Penn State football news headline feature updated College Football odds and James Franklin's feelings about Friday night football. Watch video

Today's Penn State football news headline feature updated College Football odds and James Franklin's feelings about Friday night football.

ESPN's Playoff Predictor rolled out updated playoff odds and had Penn State at No. 6 on the list at 27 percent. Alabama (67 percent), Ohio State (57), Clemson (52), Georgia (50) and Oklahoma (50) were firmly entrenched in the top five.

Audrey Snyder from The Athletic shared video of Franklin expressing his displeasure about Friday night football games, like the one his Lions are about to play next week at Illinois. The change in schedule eliminates his team's off day and creates academic issues, he said.

In other Penn State football news, Franklin praises Kevin Givens. The Lions insist they're not looking ahead to Big Ten play, and Brandon Polk is ready for his moment.

PennLive's Bob Flounders, Greg Pickel and Dustin Hockensmith also talk Penn State football on the Keystone Sports Network. Check out audio from their latest podcast below.

The Search For Ambrosia (NYC Streets) appears on Deus Ex: Sonic Augmentation, which is a free fan project that is still available to download from it’s mini-site over on OCRemix (augment.ocremix.org), either as 8 individual tracks spanning the entire Deus Ex series or the whole thing in one package. It comes with a selection of album art in the style of each of the games too which is pretty neat!

As of the time of writing, the 2016 Adult Swim Singles collection can still be streamed (but not downloaded) from the mini-site at (www.adultswim.com/music/singles-2016/), it can be a little tricky to navigate, but it’s neat nonetheless. There are some mirrors of the .zip and blogs that host the tracks from that year’s program though, so if you do a little bit of virtual crate digging you can still pick them up.

And that wraps up this installment! Me and Adam will be back soon with more in due time. As always, stay safe and enjoy the music.

What's so good?

Written by Jason and Dylan of SubmitHub. Last updated September 13th, 2018.

Hello! We’ve seen a lot of people use SubmitHub, and have noticed that some strategies work better than others. So, we’ve pulled together the below guide to give you some tips on how to use SubmitHub.

Submitting to blogs

For more than a decade, blogs had a huge influence on the music industry. Over the last few years though, a lot of these blogs have lost their day-to-day audience to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

Blogs are still really important, and can play a huge role in accelerating your career. How?

Music blogs still have a very influential group of regular visitors: industry professionals, including teams at big streaming services and A&R scouts from major labels. A feature on a blog could land you in a Spotify editorial playlist, see you included as part of a Netflix soundtrack, or sign you a big deal with Universal Music Group.

Right, so how do you make that happen? Especially when the blogs are so picky...

Blog Strategy #1: Target “RGB” and Hype Machine blogs

There are lots of blogs on SubmitHub. Some of them are more influential than others. To find them, use the filters to search for two types:

  • “Really Good Bloggers” (RGB): These are blogs that who tend to focus on written reviews of songs, rather than just throwing your song in a playlist. These reviews are excellent for pulling quotes for your press kit or simply getting validation for the work you’ve done. Make sure to look out for the purple stars next to their name!

  • Hype Machine blogs: Hype Machine tracks a few hundred blogs and creates a popular list that shows which songs are getting the most love. Historically they’ve been a very important tool for new music discovery in the industry.

On the whole, blogs tend to be a little bit pickier about who they provide coverage for. Contrary to what many might believe, having a large audience or an “approachable” sound might actually backfire for you when sending to blogs. Think of them like the kids at school who created mixtapes for everyone else -- they’re excited about finding something first, and take pride in being a step ahead of everyone else.

Generally speaking, the higher the blog’s approval %age, the lower the quality of the coverage is going to be. This isn’t true for everyone, so we advise visiting the blog first to get an idea of what they tend to provide. You can also locate stats about the blogs sharing tendencies in the notes section when submitting.

So, if blogs are picky and hard to get coverage on, how can you improve your chances of getting coverage? That leads us to strategy #2...

Blog Strategy #2: Try to get a “premiere”

A premiere is when you tell a blog that they will be the first outlet to announce your song to the public, and that you will share their write-up with all of your fans when they do so. Offering a premiere to a blog will often increase your odds of being approved because they a) like to be first; b) like that you’re going to send all your fans to visit their website for the launch. A premiere doesn’t mean you can’t put your song on Spotify or Apple -- it just means that you’re going to promote the blog’s write-up when you announce your new song.

You can create a “premiere” campaign by using the “Is this a premiere request?” filter while selecting blogs.

In case it wasn’t obvious, you’ll want to upload a private unreleased song to SubmitHub to shop around to the blogs -- you can’t premiere a song that has already been available to the public. Premieres are on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you manage to secure one, don’t offer it to anyone else or you might risk losing the first one.

Once you’ve gotten an approval for your premiere, you can create another campaign targeting all the other blogs for a regular release -- just make sure you’ve attached a “release date” to your upload on SubmitHub so that they know that they shouldn’t publish their coverage until the first blog has premiered it.

Blog Strategy #3: “Throw pasta at the wall and see what sticks”

There are a lot of blogs on SubmitHub and not all of them take premieres or are part of the Hypem and RGB communities. That doesn’t mean they’re not worth sending to, because you never know what a blog post could lead to or who might view it. If you’ve got the extra budget, it’s definitely worth sending your song to as many outlets as you can. Even a small write-up that gets viewed by 20 people could open the doors for something much bigger. Not to mention that it can help build your search engine ranking…

With this approach it’s still recommended to do some research to make sure you’re not going to totally miss the wall when you throw the pasta! Try visiting their website to see what kind of music they’re into.

Blog Strategy #4: Just give me coverage. Any coverage.

Feeling bummed out about all the rejections? Try create a campaign that targets all the outlets with a really high approval rate. The quality of their shares might not be so good, but at least you know you’re dramatically increasing the odds of getting your name out there.

YouTube channels

Another set of influential outlets on SubmitHub come in the form of YouTube channels. These folks will upload your song to their channel, exposing it to their user base. You can visit their website to get an idea of how many plays their uploads typically generate.

When sending to YouTube channels, the majority of them will ask you for copyright permission to monetize the upload -- this is how they make money to keep their channels running. You’ll still have complete control over your song everywhere else, it’s just that on their specific channel, they’re asking you for permission to keep the earnings.

For some artists, giving monetization permission is a no-no. But for others, it’s totally worth it. A good YouTube channel can generate thousands of plays for your song, and many of those listeners will end up looking you up on Spotify, so you end up earning money there anyway.

YouTube channels also tend to upload songs less frequently than other outlets on SubmitHub; i.e. one per day. That means they might like your song, just not enough for the top spot, and will share your music on their smaller SoundCloud or Spotify, or in a playlist on their YouTube. And again, the alternative is no coverage at all, which is something to keep in mind!

Spotify playlists

There are three types of Spotify playlists:

  1. Editorial (created by Spotify employees)
  2. Algorithmic (eg, your “daily mix”)
  3. Independent (these are the ones on SubmitHub)

Your ultimate goal is to get included in editorial playlists on Spotify (#1). This is very hard to accomplish. While Spotify has a tool in their artists dashboard that lets users submit to their editorial teams, the chances of being featured are slim to none. So, your best way is to get a bunch of independent playlists (#3) so that Spotify’s algorithms (#2) notice you, causing you to pop up on the radar of their editors (#1).

So, how can you use SubmitHub to increase your Spotify plays? First up, don’t expect tens of thousands of plays overnight. But, you can work your way there with these two strategies:

Spotify Strategy #1: Target the playlists who generate lots of plays.

Next to each playlister on SubmitHub you’ll see an “Avg plays” number. This is based on data we’ve collected from artists who use SubmitHub. Click on this to see a breakdown of how each of their playlists. Some of them can generate a few thousand plays, and at roughly $4 per 1,000 streams, you’ll earn your money back real quick.

Spotify Strategy #2: Target as many playlists as you can, no matter how small they are, because it sends a good signal to Spotify’s algorithms.

It’s widely believed that Spotify’s algorithmic playlists look at how many playlists you’ve been added to when deciding whether to include your song or not. So, a lot of labels and publicists will send to every independent playlister they can because they know that even if it doesn’t get them many plays, it will have a positive impact on their chances of getting included in the algorithmic playlists.

Put another way: the more independent playlists you’re included in, the more likely Spotify is to put your song in their algorithmic and official playlists.

Things to be aware of when sending to Spotify playlisters…

  • We recommend waiting until your song is live on Spotify before sending to any playlisters for consideration.
  • There are lots of playlisters out there buying fake followers or using download gates to grow their user base. These users hardly ever actually listen to the playlist.
    • I’ve gone ahead and written an entire article about it here.
    • The way we “combat” this on SubmitHub is to try and give you data about how many plays that playlister’s playlist actually generates. We recommend paying attention to that number rather than looking at how many followers they have in total.

You’ve reached the end :)
