Abstract
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic recessive disorder with progressive muscle weakness. Despite the general muscle wasting, degeneration and necrosis of cardiomyocytes have been the main causes of morbidity and death in individuals with DMD. Cardiac failure is generally preceded by disturbances in heart rate variability (HRV), and non-invasive measurement of the autonomic nervous system has been an important tool to predict adverse cardiovascular events. Hence, the application of HRV to study autonomic modulation in DMD individuals, and the establishment of correlations between HRV and heart/lung diseases, age, and mortality will have the potential to improve quality of life and life expectancy of individuals with DMD. In order to evaluate the state of the art in this field, we conducted a systematic search in Medline/PubMed and BVS (virtual library in health) databases. We selected 8 studies using pre-defined criteria and meta-analysis revealed decreased parasympathetic activity and increased sympathetic predominance in individuals with DMD as major observations. Moreover, there is a strong association between diminished HRV and myocardial fibrosis with DMD. These patterns are evident in patients at early-stage DMD and become more prominent as disease severity and age increase. Thus, data minning clearly indicates that HRV assessment can be used as a predictor for sudden death in individuals with DMD. The use of the HRV, which is inexpensive, ubiquitously available in clinics and hospitals, and a non-invasive analysis tool, can save lives and decrease the morbity in DMD by alerting care givers to consider autonomic nervous system intervention.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and IBM have announced on Wednesday that the university will join the AI Horizons Network as part of a multi-year collaboration to advance research in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In an official statement available on the institute’s website, it is said, “The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay - one of the preeminent research institutions in the world, with a long history of leadership in data mining and information retrieval systems - will be collaborating with IBM as part of the deal.”

“By joining the AI Horizons Network, IIT Bombay will pair its world-class faculty and top graduate students with leading AI scientists from IBM Research – India to advance and accelerate the application of AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and related technologies to business and industry,” the statement added.

Teams will investigate new techniques for knowledge representation across documents, graphs, charts, and other forms of multi-media content.  Research in AI will help the key industries to develop new applications in AI. The industries such as financial services, retail and healthcare rely heavily on rich, multi-modal content applications based on AI for their various processes.

The collaboration will also work to advance the field of training and building domain-specific AI agents (chatbots), which are designed to aid humans in complex decision making such as making trading and investment choices in financial services. Additionally, work is planned to explore new, domain-neutral training approaches which could enable faster, more efficient training of AI systems.

Time Series Classification (TSC) is an important and challenging problem in data mining. With the increase of time series data availability, hundreds of TSC algorithms have been proposed. Among these methods, only a few have considered Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) to perform this task. This is surprising as deep learning has seen very successful applications in the last years. DNNs have indeed revolutionized the field of computer vision especially with the advent of novel deeper architectures such as Residual and Convolutional Neural Networks. Apart from images, sequential data such as text and audio can also be processed with DNNs to reach state of the art performance for document classification and speech recognition. In this article, we study the current state of the art performance of deep learning algorithms for TSC by presenting an empirical study of the most recent DNN architectures for TSC. We give an overview of the most successful deep learning applications in various time series domains under a unified taxonomy of DNNs for TSC. We also provide an open source deep learning framework to the TSC community where we implemented each of the compared approaches and evaluated them on a univariate TSC benchmark (the UCR archive) and 12 multivariate time series datasets. By training 8,730 deep learning models on 97 time series datasets, we propose the most exhaustive study of DNNs for TSC to date.

Data Management Reporting Analyst Senior The Senior Data Management Reporting Analyst role will manage databases, programs, process streams and reports that are utilized to convert raw data from the bank's application systems as well as vendor provided demographic and competitive pricing information into consumable information for Retail Bank management. This role will also generate reports and provides analyses within one of 5 reporting domains to support business decisions in the Retail Bank, including Retail Product Management, Banking Center Network Management, Market Operations, Retail Sales and Banking Centers. Also, it will prepare data utilizing standardization and normalization techniques ensuring consistency and reliability in all reports generated. It will creates new reporting processes, automates manual processes, maintains and executes scheduled reporting processes, and most importantly validates results first, and then provides insight on metric trends, changes, and cause and effect relationships. Position Competencies Successful incumbents possess excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of individuals, strategic agility, business acumen, drive for results, are multi-tasked independent thinkers, will be a subject matter expert within their reporting domain frequently required to provide information and insight to all divisions of the bank. Position Responsibilities: * Manage all reporting databases within their domain. * Create and execute fully documented reporting processes, providing supplemental analysis to support the decision making within Retail Product Management, Banking Center Network Management, Market Operations, Retail Sales and Banking Centers, depending on the domain. * Develop tools and reports to support the leveraged use of data with accuracy, efficiency, and consistency. * Provide input and /or make recommendations to identify, enhance, efficiently collect, and consolidate core metrics and associated analytics. * Provide data mining and predictive analytics expertise in support of business units and continuous improvement activities. * Identify and integrate new data sources and analytics as appropriate to support business Units within the Retail Bank. Identify improvements in reports, databases and metric collections processes. * Lead and independently represent the Retail Bank on project teams. Develop and deliver professional presentations. * Provide planning and forecasting support within their domain. Maintain forecasting tools that project monthly Retail Banking deposit balances and fees, loan balances and fees, noninterest income and noninterest expense, and provide comparisons to prior year's plan. * Support other business lines with product, customer demographic or territorial information to assist them in decision making, understanding trends, and fulfilling external reporting needs. * Serve as an alternative to Information Technology development resources by creating daily automated report delivery processes, providing batch maintenance files to application systems and identifying and fixing incorrect data within application systems. * Interfaces, negotiates and manages vendors who provide software and data within their reporting domain. Represents the needs of the Retail Bank in all interactions with this data and vendor. Relocation Relocation assistance is not provided for this position.
