Erik Haula Jersey .The 21-year-old Kane took his seasons tally to 20 after Christian Eriksen opened the scoring at The Hawthorns.Eriksen struck after just six minutes with a trademark free kick, maintaining his fine recent form for the League Cup finalists.Kane doubled the lead in the 15th and grabbed the third from the penalty spot in the 64th, condemning Tony Pulis to his first defeat as West Brom boss.Tottenham is provisionally fifth with 40 points from 23 games. The hosts put up little resistance as Spurs carved through them at will in the early stages, getting their first chance after Mousa Dembele was brought down outside the area by Claudio Yacob. There was little doubt Eriksen would shoot but Ben Foster still seemed slow to move. It was the first goal the Baggies had conceded in three Premier League games since Pulis took charge and they were reeling from another soon after. This time Kane applied the finish after picking up a defence-splitting pass from Dembele. Kane turned inside Andre Wisdom and smashed the ball in before Foster had chance to react.West Brom responded positively to the double setback. Saido Berahino and Victor Anichebe combined well before Chris Brunt shot straight at Hugo Lloris from long range. That gave Lloris a first taste of the action before he was called upon to tip over a fine effort from James Morrison.Spurs goalkeeping captain, back in the side after missing their three successive cup games in the past fortnight, then did even better to deny Yacob from close range following an elaborate free-kick routine.Joleon Lescott headed over, Anichebe shot just wide and Craig Dawson went even closer, heading against the bar, as West Brom stepped up the pressure.West Brom could not carry their momentum into the second half and Spurs got the chance to increase their lead just after the hour as Lescott slid in to block a cross from Kyle Walker and the ball struck his arm.Kane was emphatic from the spot, sending Foster the wrong way with a perfect shot just inside the left post. Golden Knights Jerseys For Sale . The 25-year-old native of Milford, Conn., has 18 points in 41 games this season. The five-foot-eight 166-pound centre also has 28 points (10-18) in 15 games with AHL Oklahoma City. Oscar Lindberg Jersey . Hemsky left the Oilers Tuesday night loss to the Dallas Stars in the second period and did not return. Through 48 games this season, Hemsky has seven goals and a total of 24 points. http://www.authenticgoldenknightsshopnhl.com/ .The Dallas Cowboys released Sam from the practice squad Tuesday, dropping the rush end as they prepare for several potential reinforcements to return to the defensive line.Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Ranger Ryan Callahan had two goals and an assist against his ex-team to spoil Martin St. Louis return to Tampa and help the Lightning to a 4-3 victory over New York. The pregame buildup was solely centered on St. Louis first game in Amalie Arena since the Lightnings all-time leading scorer requested and was granted a trade to the Rangers on March 5. However, it was Callahan -- the key player Tampa Bay received in the blockbuster swap -- who earned the nights First Star as St. Louis was held off the scoresheet. Steven Stamkos made quite an impact as well, notching a goal and two assists in the Lightnings fourth win in their last six outings. Ben Bishop finished with 16 saves in the triumph. New York entered the anticipated matchup off shutout wins over Philadelphia and Montreal, but Henrik Lundqvist stopped just 25-of-29 shots and St. Louis was mostly a non-factor. Rick Nash did record a goal and an assist for the Rangers, with Mats Zuccarello and Dan Boyle also scoring in defeat. Callahan accounted for the first two of three consecutive Tampa Bay goals that erased a 2-1 deficit late in the opening period, during which St. Louis received a generally positive ovation from the home crowd as a video saluting his 12 1/2-year tenure with the Lightning was shown on the scoreboard. A double-minor penalty to Nash led to Callahans initial tally of the night, with the former Rangers captain crashing the net to re-direct a long drive from Jason Garrison 2:26 prior to the first intermission. Callahans second came midway through the second period off a pinpoint pass from Stamkos, who wheeled around the New York net to set up his teammate for a successful wrister in close that put the Lightning up 3-2. Clayton Stoner Jersey. Boyle nearly tied it just seconds into the third with a blast that struck the post, but the Rangers later fell behind by two when Matt Carles point shot deflected off Kucherovs skate and trickled by Lundqvist with 10:22 to go. Nash got New York back within one when he turned a giveaway from Tampas Andrej Sustr into his 15th goal of the season with 7:11 left to play. The Rangers didnt threaten thereafter, though, as the Lightning held on for the two points. Stamkos quickly put to rest any hopes of a third straight Rangers shutout, with the star center setting off a flurry of first-period goals by rifling a shot over Lundqvists left shoulder on a Tampa power play just 5:25 into the contest. New York answered just over 3 1/2 minutes later when Sustr fanned on a clearing attempt, creating a 2-on-1 between Nash and Zuccarello in which Bishop had no chance to turn away the latters attempt. The Lightning took a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty less than two minutes after Zuccarellos score, with the Rangers converting the chance on Boyles one-timer off a Derek Stepan feed. Game Notes Callahan also had two goals in the first meeting between the clubs since the trade, a 5-1 Lightning win at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 17 ... The Lightning are now 13-0-0 following the trade when Callahan scores at least one goal ... Nashs assist on Zuccarellos marker was the 300th of his career ... Lightning forward Alex Killorn extended his career-best point streak to six games with an assist on Callahans second goal ... Boyles goal was the free- agent pickups first point as a Ranger ... Bishop improved to 7-0-0 all-time against New York. NEW ORLEANS - The NBAs best and brightest head to the Big Easy on Sunday night to play in the 63rd All-Star Game at Smoothie King Center. Womens Lakers Jerseys . You can watch all the action on TSN with coverage beginning at 7pm et/4pm pt. LeBron James of the Miami Heat was the leading vote-getter as he starts his 10th All-Star Game. "Its great being here, man, and its nice to see all your fellow guys around the league, both East and West," said James. "Im honored to be here once again and excited to be part of this." He is joined in the Easts starting lineup by Heat teammate Dwyane Wade (10th appearance), Clevelands Kyrie Irving (2nd), Indianas Paul George (2nd) and New Yorks Carmelo Anthony (7th). The leading vote-getter out West was Oklahoma Citys Kevin Durant, who finished second to James in overall voting and will be in his fifth All-Star Game. Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors is going to make his All-Star debut as he earned the most votes in the West backcourt. Kobe Bryant was voted into the other starting spot, despite playing just six games this season. His knee injury precluded him from participating and commissioner Adam Silver named New Orleans Pelicans Anthony Davis to replace him on the roster. Head coach Scott Brooks of OKC selected Bryants replacement in the starting lineup and that man will be Brooks former player, James Harden of the Houston Rockets. LA Clipper Blake Griffin (4th appearance) and Minnesotas Kevin Love (3rd) round out the starting five. Pacers skipper Frank Vogel will coach the Eastern Conference team. The reserves, as always, were selected by the conference coaches and offered little in terms of controversy. Much like the fan vote, coaches were tasked with selecting two backcourt players, three frontcourt players and two wild-cards. The visitors from the East will have newbies in Washingtons John Wall, Torontos DeMar DeRozan and Atlantas Paul Millsap. Miamis Chris Bosh will make his ninth appearance and fellow veterans Joe Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets (7th), Indianas Roy Hibbert (2nd) and Chicagos Joakim Noah (2nd) complete the second unit. The Western reserves are a more veteran-laden group with Dallas Dirk Nowitzki (12th), Clipper Chris Paul (7th), San Antonios Tony Parker (6th) and Dwight Howard (8th) of the Houston Rockets. Portland has two representatives in LaMarcus Aldridge (3rd) and Damian Lillard (1st). Davis will make his All-Star debut in just his second season. "I stayed in the gym last summer trying to get better, and Im doing the same thing this summer. And I have a lot to work on," said Davis. "And to be selected in the All-Star Game and the numbers that Im putting up is amazing, but I know that I have a lot to do." The West is on a three-game winning streak. Last year, Paul earned MVP honors with 20 points, 15 assists and four steals as the West prevailed, 143-138 in Houston. Durant became the first player in history to score 30-plus points in three straight All-Star games. One of the most intriguing aspects of this matchup, (other than both teams in sleeved uniforms), is with the new voting regulations, the East doesnt have a traditional big man in the starting lineup. James has a wide array of post moves and he may be forced to jump center. He, Anthony and George might have a hard time matching up with the much bigger frontline of Durant, Griffin and Love. "I guess it would probably help more, but Im okay with the way its done," coach Vogel said of fans no longer voting for a center. The West has taken four of the last five meetings and five of the last seven.           Russell Westbrook undergoes knee surgery, status uncertain      Cache   Translate Page
Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday, according to a report from ESPN’s Royce Young. At this stage it remains unclear whether or not Westbrook will be ready to play in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s season-opener against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 16. It’s conceivable that Westbrook could miss the Thunder’s first few regular season games. Either way, it appears likely that Westbrook will not be able to participate in the Thunder’s training camp, which gets underway on Sept. 25. Westbrook is said to have been experiencing some stiffness in his right knee during individual workouts over the past week. According to Young’s reporting, Westbrook decided to undergo a “standard scope as a preemptive ‘maintenance’ procedure” to clear things up now as opposed to dealing with any nagging injury as the season gets underway and beyond.Typically an extremely durable player, Westbrook played in 80 games for the Thunder in 2017-18, averaging 25.4 points, 10.3 assists and 10.1 rebo

1978-79 Edmonton Oilers Garnet "Ace" Bailey Jersey      Cache   Translate Page
Garnet "Ace" Bailey first played for the Edmonton Oil Kings in junior hockey from 1964 to 1967, including a Memorial Cup championship in 1966.

He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 1966 NHL Amateur draft with the 13th overall pick and started his professional career with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League followed by further seasoning with the Bruins minor league Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League in the 1968-69 season where he had a nice season with 56 points in 60 games. Bailey excelled in the playoffs with 14 points in 9 games as Hersey won the Calder Cup as AHL champions. He also found the time to make his NHL debut with the Bruins, seeing action in eight games during which he scored his first NHL goal on his way to six points. He even got his first taste of NHL playoff action in one postseason game for Boston.

The 1969-70 season saw him crack the Bruins lineup, appearing in 58 regular season games. While Bailey did not suit up for any of the Bruins playoff games, that season (perhaps due to injury) his name was included among those engraved on the Stanley Cup following the Bruins championship, capped off by Bobby Orr's famous cup winning overtime goal in Game 4.

His next season was split between the Boston and Oklahoma City before finally establishing himself as a full-time NHL regular in 1971-72 when he skated in 73 games for the Bruins as well as 13 playoff games, including scoring the game winning goal in Game 1 of the 1972 Stanley Cup Finals versus the New York Rangers, as Bailey got his name on the Stanley Cup for the second time.

Bailey's next three seasons in the NHL were ones of change, as the Bruins traded him to the Red Wings after 57 games of the 1972-73 season. Half way through the next season, Detroit sent Bailey to the St. Louis Blues. Once more Bailey was on the trading block, when St. Louis dealt him to the Washington Capitals after 49 games of the 1974-75 season despite Bailey having already set a career high with 41 points in 49 games for the Blues. Combined with the 17 points he scored in 22 game for the Capitals, his 58 points would remain the best offensive output of his 10 years in the NHL.

Washington proved to be a good fit of Bailey, and he would see action in 67 games in 1975-76 and 78 the following year, his second highest scoring season with 46 points.

Bailey Capitals

Bailey, who was known for his sense of humor once received a four-inch-manual from Capitals head coach Tom McVie, telling him how to get into condition. Bailey used the manual to prop up a beer keg in his bar. On the first day of training camp, according to theSan Francisco Chronicle, Bailey beat several other players in a footrace, and McVie said approvingly, "Ace, I can see you used your book this summer." Bailey replied, "Coach, I used it every day."

Another story relates how McVie once scheduled a practice for the squad at the ungodly hour of 4 AM. As the sleepy players arrived in their hotel lobby, Bailey, impersonating McVie, had already called and cancelled the bus scheduled to take them to the rink, which eventually led to the cancellation of the practice and some much needed additional sleep for the team.

After one more season in Washington, his fourth, Bailey's career would come full circle, as he would return to the scene of his junior hockey roots in Edmonton, this time with the Oilers of the WHA for 38 games where he would become a roommate and mentor a young Wayne Gretzky, becoming one of the few players to play with both Orr and Gretzky.

His playing days concluded with seven games with the CHL's Houston Apollos in 1979-80, before retiring to become their head coach, and a single game with the Wichita Wind of the CHL (while he was their head coach) in 1980-81.

His final NHL totals were 568 games played, 107 goals and 171 assists for 278 points.

Beginning in 1981, he worked as a scout for the Oilers from 1981 to 1994 and win five Stanley Cup rings during the Oilers dynasty from 1984 to 1990, which included his name engraved on the cup three of those times.

Sadly, while working as the director of pro scouting for the Los Angeles Kings, Bailey was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 175 which was crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, killing all on board. Today's featured jersey is a 1978-79 Edmonton Oilers "Ace" Bailey jersey as worn during Bailey's only WHA season. The Oilers adopted this style jersey during their third WHA season of 1974-75 and used this version of the logo with the blue lettering on an orange background through their final WHA season of 1978-79. When the Oilers joined the NHL the following season, the logos on both the home and road jerseys were changed to blue letters on a white background, a higher contrast and much more pleasing combination.

Bonus Jersey: Today's bonus jersey is a Koho 2001-02 Los Angeles Kings Glen Murray jersey, which features the "AM" patch in memory of Ace Bailey and Mark Bavis, a fellow scout with the Kings who was also killed on board Flight 175 with Bailey. The jersey also is adorned with the 2002 NHL All-Star Game which was hosted by the Kings that season.

The Kings introduced this purple jersey as an alternate style to their white home and black road jerseys in 1999 and wore it for three seasons. At the time, the all the home jerseys in the NHL were branded as CCM, while the dark and alternate jerseys carried the Koho brand and the practice jerseys were tagged Jofa, as all three brands were part of the same company.

Later, in time for the 2002-03 season, the Kings flipped logos on their jerseys, making the crown logo seen here, the new primary logo for both their white and black jerseys, where it remains in use today, while the purple alternate jersey began to use the coat of arms logo (seen here on the shoulders as a secondary logo) through 2006-07 prior to the purple jersey being discontinued with the change to the new Reebok Edge jerseys, which dictated the temporary elimination of alternate jerseys.

Go Redbirds! Boo, Grizzlies!      Cache   Translate Page

After a pair of heart-stopping comeback wins last weekend, the Memphis Redbirds advanced to the Pacific Coast League (PCL) championship series for a second straight season where they'll defend their title against the Triple-A affiliate of the world champion Houston Astros, the Fresno Grizzlies. Battling Mother Nature in both Oklahoma City (where they split the first two games of the best-of-five semifinal series) and Memphis, the Redbirds beat a hot Dodger team in four games, the last two in walk-off fashion.

In Game 3 Friday night, Alex Mejia, Lane Thomas, and Max Schrock delivered consecutive RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth inning to erase a 4-2 Oklahoma City lead and give Memphis a 2-1 series advantage. But that comeback served merely as prelude to Sunday's epic Game 4.

The Redbirds tied Sunday's game at a run apiece in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Edman. (The game had been scheduled for seven innings, as Game 5 would have followed had the Dodgers won.) Oklahoma City took a two-run lead in the top of the 10th inning on a home run by Henry Ramos. But the Redbirds rallied again, this time tying the score at 3 on a two-out, two-strike single by Alex Mejia. Then, things got a little weird.

Edman reached second after drilling the ball off the Dodgers' first baseman, putting Redbirds at second and third. Oklahoma City manager Bill Haselman then seemed to corner Redbirds manager Stubby Clapp by walking Schrock. Out of position players on his bench, Clapp was forced to let relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos bat with the winning run 90 feet away. Gallegos had exactly one at-bat in his seven-year professional career.

Gallegos clubbed the baseball over the leftfielder's head for a series-clinching walkoff victory. Such is Redbirds baseball in what can now be called the Stubby Clapp era. Pieces of a good team are removed. Others arrive, suit up, and impact victories.

The 2018 Redbirds, for a time, had the finest outfield in the minor leagues: Tyler O'Neill, Oscar Mercado, and Adolis García. Mercado was traded in late July and O'Neill and García are now helping the St. Louis Cardinals fight for a big-league playoff spot.

In April, Memphis had what appeared to be an electric rotation of starting pitchers: Jack Flaherty, Austin Gomber, John Gant, Daniel Poncedeleon, and Dakota Hudson. Hudson won 13 games for the Redbirds and earned PCL Pitcher of the Year honors. But all five men are now pitching for the Cardinals, leaving the likes of Jake Woodford, former Cardinal Tyler Lyons, and Kevin Herget to take turns in the PCL playoffs.

And take their turns they will, now three games from back-to-back championships for a man — already a back-to-back PCL Manager of the Year — who may be on to new ventures next spring. When the Toronto Blue Jays announced last week that manager John Gibbons will not return in 2019, Clapp's name instantly became an offseason talking point. (Clapp is a native of Windsor, Ontario.) Would a major-league team hire a manager with no experience in such a role at the game's highest level? Check out the managers' offices at Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park as the Yankees and Red Sox prepare for this year's postseason.

For at least three more games, though, Stubby Clapp will command the Memphis Redbirds. (The championship series opens Tuesday night in Fresno, with Games 3 through 5 scheduled for AutoZone Park, starting Friday night.) You can bet against the Redbirds at your wallet's peril. Clapp has emphasized "never say die" for two seasons now as a Triple-A manager. When relief pitchers are drilling series-winning hits to the wall, perhaps it's time we all believe in the mantra.

Schröder-Gala! DBB-Team demontiert Estland       Cache   Translate Page

Estland - Deutschland 43:86 (24:49)

Beste Werfer: Veideman (14) für Estland - Schröder (18), Barthel (12), Zirbes (12) und Kleber (11) für Deutschland

George Takei tells the story of GLAAD Media Institute alumni giving "Free Mom Hugs"      Cache   Translate Page

Actor, LGBTQ advocate, and GLAAD Media Award honoree, George Takei, has shared the story of Sara and Parker Cunningham. The mother and son duo participated in the GLAAD Media Institute course in Oklahoma City in March, hosted and co-sponsored by Freedom Oklahoma. Since then, Sara and her organization, Free Mom Hugs, have been getting significant media attention for her support of LGBTQ people who have faced family rejection.

Look at how Takei tells the story:

Sara and Parker were highly engaged in the GLAAD Media Institute course, according to trainer Scott Turner Schofield. “They came to learn how to represent Free Mom Hugs as best they could, to really promote its mission. They even took me out for dinner and grilled me for more, and I did a whole extra how-to-interview session with them because they were so hungry for what we do.”

Free Mom HugsSince their time attending Engagement 101: Media & Messaging Tools for Today's Activist, the mother and son team have out the training to great use, and it’s paying off. Sarah went viral for her offer to stand in as a parent for LGBTQ people getting married, who have been rejected by family. Their story was featured in The Independent, CBS News, BuzzFeed, and outlets in France and Germany.

Her outpouring of love has even inspired similar actions in Austin, TX, and is becoming the subject of a documentary titled “Mama Bears.”

Sara and Parker are just two examples of GLAAD Media Institute alumni who are accelerating acceptance for the LGBTQ community. Join them by attending a GLAAD Media Institute course or workshop near you. Check out glaad.org/institute to learn more.

Greek Acrobats in U.S. since 1820s      Cache   Translate Page

FLYING THROUGH THE AIR WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE:
GREEK ACROBATS IN U.S.

By Steve Frangos

Published in The National Herald, September 1, 2018

------------------------------

I am excited that The National Herald has given Hellenic Genealogy Geek the right to reprint articles that may be of interest to our group.

------------------------------

Since the mid-1820s, Greek circus performers have thrilled American audiences.

The multitalented performer known as the Greek Rhigas performed in New York City between the mid-1820s and the 1850s. In 1876, Antonia Panay brought the Royal Greek Circus, the first Greek-owned circus, on tour to the United States. By the 1880s, massive Greek strongmen began to perform all across the nation working in circuses, carnivals and sideshows. The key point here is not just that Greek performers appeared in American venues but that these performances took place--over decades--not just in big cities but small cities, towns and even among the most remote of areas of the nation. Consequently, the first Greeks many Americans saw were not rough laborers but skilled colorful stage performers.

At circuses, vaudeville stages and county fairs all manner of Greek circus performers appeared, and still do: clowns, strongmen, trapeze artists, acrobats, sharp-shooters, magicians, sword swallowers, animal trainers, jugglers, magicians and bare-back riders. Much work must yet be undertaken to even offer the roughest of outlines on the presence of Greek circus performers on American soil. Clearly, individual studies of each category of performer needs to be compiled. To illustrate the extent of the presence of Greek circus performers on American soil I will plot out the appearances of ten Greek acrobats and acrobatic teams from 1896 to 2009. Let me quickly add that the vast majority of the Greek acrobats and troupes mentioned below performed all across the United States for years.

ears. In 1896, the first news account I have located, is an advertisement for a “troupe of Greek acrobats, jugglers, tumblers (Pittsburgh Press December 27, 1896).' Back-grounding the appearance of these Greek performers during the 1890s and later the American press frequently ran stories about Classical Greece and among those tales one frequently hears of 'Greek acrobats.”

By 1904, two different Greek acrobatic troupes are found in the American press: Sinon and Paris and the Manolos Family. With Sinon and Paris we read that “the management has a decided novelty. They are Greek comedians, and their act is known as 'the droll Greeks of olden time (Lincoln Republican (KS) September 29, 1904).” And they did not work alone as we see that “Sinon and Paris, Greeks, have a good act, one in which drollery predominates. Their dog is a wonder (Buffalo Times (NY) January 17, 1905).” Sinon and Paris are also referred to “men of muscle” on various occasions.

How a “strongman” specifically figured into these acrobat acts is still a crucial point I cannot now clarify by these news accounts. As an example, we read that “some of the greatest troupes of Greek acrobats that have appeared before the public have featured (George) Heraklides as their strong man (Lewiston Evening Teller (ID) January 23, 1906).” While Heraklides was a noted wrestler, in his own right, little other description of his involvement with acrobats sees discussion.

The Manolos family, as news accounts report, were always well received. This acrobatic troupe “includes father, mother and two sons and their photographs, which have been on display in the Orpheum lobby during the present week indicate they do some difficult work (Republic (Columbus IN) February 23, 1907).”

Decidedly interesting is the work of the Manola family of four “in acrobatics, feats of strength and tumbling. Signora Manola is the picture of health and strength, with a figure like Venus of Milo, a waist that is a re-proof to the wasp-like accomplishments of the social corset (Daily Oklahoman (Oklahoma City) October 18, 1905).” And again, “the headliner for the week is that of the Manola family, a European acrobatic act. Miss Manola has a standing challenge to ladies for this act, as she is one of the strongest women in the world (Marion Daily Mirror (OH) October 12, 1907).”

In addition to their vaudeville theater presentation between 1904-1909, “the Manolo Family of Greek acrobats...for the past five summers have been one of the leading features of Barnum and Bailey's circus (Weekly Press (Saint Joseph MI) November 4, 1909).” Yet, regrettably, I can find no exact or even vague description of the Manolos family act. We can read that “the Manolos Family...direct from the Barnum and Bailey Circus, is without question the best circus feature that has ever visited here in vaudeville. Their feats are remarkable and loud applause greets each trick as it is cleverly performed...” yet none of these 'tricks' are described (Weekly Press November 5, 1909).

If my account so far on these Greek acrobats seems a tad vague that is the consequence of the historical material. For reasons that see no examination bodily movement has no established descriptive language. Without question dozens of advertisements announcing the appearance of these Greek performers are readily found in the public press. Yet aside from reporting that these acrobats are about to appear or a brief mention of a current performance little else is written. There are no exact descriptions of their acts. Describing any kind of physical movement by these acrobats seems to be beyond these otherwise capable journalists.

The troupe of nine Killinos acrobats was one of the largest Greek acrobatic acts ever to appear on the American stage (Pittsburgh Daily Post October 26, 1909). While this troupe was especially popular in England their presentation of A Fete in Venice was one of their most acclaimed American routines. The Dimitrescu Troupe described as 'wonders' in various news reports. This troupe of “horizontal bar artists should meet with a cordial reception here as there has been nothing in their line seen here for some time past and these Greek acrobats are credited with much new and excellent material in their act (Los Angeles Times September 10, 1911).”

Clouding the issue of Greek acrobats even further than ignoring what they exactly did on stage other individuals are identified as “Greek acrobats” in the American press such as R.G. Neof and Nick Romes but no details of their careers are noted.

All female acrobatic acts seemed to have been the rage, for a time. The Five Idonias, ever identified as 'Greek acrobats and athletes' were “a quintet of pretty young women who present one of the best acrobatic numbers seen here in some time (Arkon Beacon Journal (OH) December 8, 1913).” The Five Idonias were to continue to appear on American stages across the nation for many years. Next we find the Abdullahs, a sextette of Greek acrobats, who were “the headline attraction at the New Grand this week. Their act consists principally of somersaults. This is done with a great deal of unnecessary yelling (Star Tribune (MN) November 24, 1914).”

In the 1950s, much was made of the “Karpis Trio, daredevil acrobats who always keep the customers sitting breathlessly on the edges of their chairs while they are performing (Gazette (Montreal, Canada) November 14, 1953).” This may be why we finally discover some description of their performance. At the 1954, Allentown County Fair we hear of the “Karpis Trio – these clever performers from Greece, two men and a girl – have mastered a sparkling routine that combines tumbling and balancing. Featured item is a number in which one member of the trio lies on his back, causes a bar to rotate horizontally by clever foot juggling, and supports the combined weight of the other two people working on opposite ends of the bar. Combined weight of the heavy bar and its two performing passengers is 325 pounds (Morning Call September 18, 1954).”

Then in 2009, we hear that 'Greek acrobats' are performing at a Chicago Greektown festival (Chicago Tribune August 27, 2009). As even this very cursory review of Greek professional acrobats demonstrates the time has long passed for accepting the stereotypical view that all we have ever been in North America are laboring immigrants.
