PREMIERE: Moonheart - Breaking/Broken      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
glimmersingleart-3.jpg

Gerard Marcus

Have you ever loved someone-a mother, a friend, a life partner-who’s emotionally sporadic? It has a way of making you lose yourself in anxieties that aren’t your own. Finding your way out of the maze of another person’s emotions is hard, and it can force you to learn how to emotionally separate yourself from aspects of their life. It’s not easy, not being hugged when that’s all you want, not seeing a smile after you told what you know is the funniest joke ever. But love keeps you there.

Moonheart’s new single “Breaking, Broken” reminds me of this space. The track is simple-lush synths layered over cavernous percussion and flickering electronics, with singer Kim Iman’s voice ping-ponging in stereo like rippling water running over it all. This simplicity is all in service of my favorite aspect of this track: it’s structure. The song opts-out of a familiar verse-chorus pattern, and instead floats through a lyrical stream of consciousness. It evokes the contemplation one has after yet another failure to connect with someone they love, remembering all the good and the bad in the relationship, while trying to figure out what comes next. This emotional middle ground is hard to grasp, but Moonheart has captured it perfectly.

Nevermind The Car : "EP2"      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Heavy Rotation: 10 Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Each month, we ask 10 DJs and music directors from public radio stations around the country to tell us about the songs they keep playing. This month's mix features several collaborations between well-known artists and up-and-coming stars.

Otis Jr. and a band of Louisville all-stars (including members of My Morning Jacket, Wax Fang and Twin Limb) cover a Willie Dixon classic. Johnny Marr, formerly of The Smiths, teams up with British actress Maxine Peake for a spoken-word song about homelessness. In perhaps the most surprising combination, Italian film composer Daniele Luppi collaborates with the Brooklyn post-punk band Parquet Courts on "Soul And Cigarette."

Hear all the songs below.

Anna Burch, '2 Cool 2 Care'

From Quit The Curse

My ears always perk at the phrase: "Can I be real for a second?" What follows is almost always better than the standard polite chit-chat for nice people (public radio stations are full of that). When Anna Burch sings, "I like you best, when you're a mess," I can't help but think she shares that affinity. "2 Cool 2 Care" puts a bubblegum filter on why people are most relatable when they're vulnerable. Burch feels lovably skeptical when touching on attraction and boredom; these are pop music staples for sure, but her spin on them is a fun one. This record should be a biggie in 2018.

Nick Brunner, Capital Public Radio's Hey, Listen!

Jordan Rakei, 'Eye To Eye'

From Wallflower

When Jordan Rakei opens his mouth on "Eye To Eye," all you hear is heartache. The tone in his undulating voice, set to the strum of pretty guitar chords, breaks every romantic's heart. "It's the birth of a star," Rakei sings prophetically in the opening lines. You said it, kid.

The song, the first cut off the Australian singer-songwriter's second full-length, Wallflower, is a tale of all-consuming adulation told through juxtaposed poetic images. But the words might as well be nonsense as it's his sound — a quivering voice that suggests Devendra Banhart and Anohni — that carries the real message. The track, like the artist, daringly skirts pop, R&B and indie rock. It's an experimental variant of the sad bastard music we fall sway to when life turns blue.

Rakei is no also-ran. At the two-minute mark, he surrenders any notion of being Elliott Smith reborn when the music left-turns into a Radiohead-esque angular guitar maze. After two more minutes of vocal vamping, it morphs again into a synthetic anthem that fuses haunting "Karma Police" electric piano, mechanical drum rolls and cymbal-crashing syncopation. "Pleasure to have met you," he coos to his beloved. The feeling is mutual.

David Hyland, Wisconsin Public Radio

Daniele Luppi & Parquet Courts, 'Soul And Cigarette'

From MILANO

At first glance, this looks to be a rather unlikely pairing, but once you get past the initial shock of teaming the Italian film composer with the Brooklyn post-punk outfit, you realize this is a match made in heaven. The song comes from MILANO, Luppi's tribute to Milan in the '80s, spotlighting the decadence and deviance of the time. The city was alive, and the possibilities appeared endless. "Soul And Cigarette" shares this optimism, opening with the whimsical sounds of a glockenspiel and containing lush lyrics that are rich with imagery. Parquet Courts approach this song in the same manner as the The Modern Lovers or Pavement: a reserved style that holds back, but you know they could unleash power on a moment's notice. "Soul And Cigarette" is one of those songs that transports you to a time and place far away and makes you never want to leave.

Benji McPhail, The Colorado Sound

The Weather Station, 'Thirty'

From The Weather Station

Female voices are louder than ever, and The Weather Station is no exception. Toronto-based musician Tamara Lindeman, known as The Weather Station, has released her fourth, self-titled album, and a video for its latest single, "Thirty."

The song, and its socially relevant video, narrates a tale about the uncertain first year of her transitional third decade. In the video, Lindeman is performing alone in front of a crowd of men in a television studio. She conveys a lot with so little, feverishly telling a familiar story of being loved and dismissed. The airy quality of her vocals is endearing while she spins a vivid, intensely personal narrative through the lyrics. The detailed description of these accounts immediately reels you in: "Yeah, I could see it so simple, unsubtle / Impossible, clearly / And strange / Far and as close as a mountain range / On the horizon driving all day / There I was, so sane / So plain after everything."

With a voice that is often compared to fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell, The Weather Station has established her own brand of sad optimism coupled with the confidence and determination of Aimee Mann.

Vasilia Scouras, WVPB's Mountain Stage

Joon Moon, 'Tiger'

From Moonshine Corner

There's a rich history of American artists creating some of their best work in France, and plenty of French artists have drawn inspiration from American trends. Into this tradition steps Joon Moon — Parisian producer/songwriter Julien Decoret, drummer Raphaël Chassin and Kansas City expat singer Krystle Warren. Fittingly, the collaboration began at Decoret's studio in Montmartre, the Paris neighborhood famous for its artistic history (including a 1923 stint from American poet Langston Hughes). The resulting debut album, Moonshine Corner, mixes French cool and American soul; pop and trip-hop support R&B and jazz inflections. The record delivers a consciously retro-modern vibe by pairing contemporary recording techniques with vintage '60s and '70s instruments, and the whole effect is on display (supporting Warren's remarkable slow-burn vocals) on the single "Tiger."

Micah Schweizer, Wyoming Public Radio

Otis Jr. and the Seventh Sons, 'Seventh Son'

From The Pope's Long Con

When a song has been covered over a dozen times, you'd think bringing something new to it would be almost impossible. But Otis Jr. and a band of Louisville all-stars (including members of My Morning Jacket, Wax Fang and Twin Limb) do just that with this Willie Dixon classic. The track combines performances that hew closely to the source material with seemingly incongruous production, imbuing it with an almost Lynchian undertone. Commissioned as the theme for an investigative podcast, this track stands on its own as a soulful yet off-kilter throwback jam.

Sean Cannon, WFPK

Giraffage, 'Green Tea' (feat. Angelica Bess)

From Too Real

Charlie Yin, better known as Giraffage, is an artist whose eclectic music leanings have run the gamut in sound-painting, ranging from chillwave and deep dance to dream pop. His latest lush, atmospheric masterpiece, "Green Tea," (found on the studio album Too Real) possesses all those hallmarks and more. Featuring sultry, sensual vocal work by Angelica Bess (of Body Language), the track is a smooth, danceable ditty, but also a female empowerment anthem — a very timely sentiment considering the present climate of the country.

"Green Tea" was created in Giraffage's bedroom and took only 30 minutes to put together, but another six months to find the right vocalist to accentuate it. And Bess does that in spades. The song is a perfect marriage on wax: Bess' voice is the perfect complement to a melodic, dreamy production that liberally employs techno and deep house flourishes. The result is a tune that exudes authenticity and street credibility despite its move closer toward a commercial sound. It's clear that Giraffage has managed to become a master at creating a vibe — one that's refreshing, exhilarating and uplifting — which represents electronica at its finest.

Chris Campbell, WDET's The Progressive Underground

Superorganism, 'Something For Your M.I.N.D.'

From Something For Your M.I.N.D.

Orono, an 18-year-old Japanese girl who just graduated high school in Maine after leaving her family in Japan to become "a musician or artist of some sort" and hopefully go to college in the States, met the rest of her band after scrolling though YouTube and seeing their song in the "recommended" section. She saw the band when it went on tour in Japan and met with them after the show at a Hard Rock Café. They became Facebook friends and "shared memes and all that" with each other for about a year until they emailed her a demo from New Zealand. She sent back the melody and lyrics hours later. That song would become "Something For Your M.I.N.D."

You might compare her voice to Kimya Dawson, but really, "I'm doing a rip-off of what Stephen Malkmus sings like," Orono tells me over the phone. She sings, or rather talks over wild production on this song. Above apple crunches for production, rubber-band bass lines and pitched-down background vocals that make the whole thing feel like it's melting, Orono serves as a calming guide on this journey through the M.I.N.D.

Justin Barney, Radio Milwaukee

Johnny Marr and Maxine Peake, 'The Priest'

From The Priest

Stop me if you think you've heard this one before: A former Smiths member is making a political record. Now, what if I told you it wasn't the guy you expected (Morrissey), but Johnny Marr, guitarist and co-songwriter of the legendary Manchester quartet. Marr, patron saint of rock 'n' roll, has politics on the brain. As he told the British music magazine Q, "you're living in this world and you can't do anything about it. So much of the record is about dislocation. Whether it's being forced by the political system or because of personal demons. I was trying to imagine an alternative society." (I swear this is not a Morrissey quote.)

Cue "The Priest," a song featuring a spoken-word performance from British actress Maxine Peake, tackling a theme that cuts across all spectrums of life: homelessness. Joe Gallagher was homeless when he wrote the story behind this song (and its short film, seen below). According to The Guardian, Peake found Gallagher's story in a diary-like column, written for the Scottish magazine The Big Issue, that documented his time on the streets of Edinburgh. The words and subject matter resonated hard with Peake and Marr, and with the center of Manchester as the setting, Marr paints a driving, moody soundscape behind Peake's stark and vivid performance. I like spoken-word records because they force you to pay attention. It's a hypnotic song that's hard to ignore.

Stephen Kallao, WXPN

Samantha Fish, "Gone For Good"

From Belle Of The West

This one goes out to all the women in the room who are just plain tired of trying to attain someone else's ideal, to all the women in the room who are ready to move forward and follow — or break — their own rules, and to all the women in the room who've finally said "enough." Samantha Fish doesn't mince words on the final track of her new release, Belle Of The West, and it all boils down to one very succinct line: "Thank God you're gone for good." With the kind of incessant foot-stomping and down-and-dirty slide guitar that's become a trademark of Fish's contemporary take on classic country swamp blues, "Gone For Good" follows a familiar trope: the breakup song, the revenge song, the "I'm better off without you" song. But Fish's way of looking at the situation feels fresh and earthy; she's angry, but she's not going to let her "losing grip on my sweet once-upon-a-time" hold her back.

Latest Releases from Vocalist Sofia Jernberg      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
By Eyal Hareuveni

Swedish, Ethiopian-born, Oslo-based vocal artist Sofia Jernberg needs no introduction. She calls herself a “maker of things” and she keeps doing a lot of beautiful things with Mats Gustafsson’s Fire! Orchestra, and countless free-improvisations meetings. She also did many interesting things with the Swedish-American Seval, with cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm, and the Swedish-Norwegian-French quartet The New Songs. Jernberg continues to make exciting things with Gustafsson’s new group The End, and with the Norwegian experimental Lana Trio.

The End - Svårmod Och Vemod Är Värdesinnen (Rare Noise, 2018) *****

Take two of the wildest baritone sax heavyweights on our planet - Swedish Mats Gustafsson and Norwegian Kjetil Møster (whose resume spans from modern jazz groups as The Core and Trinity, through punk-jazz Ultralyd and Møster! to glam-rockers King Midas and Datarock); add the adventurous, avant-rocker, Deerhoof’s powerhouse drummer Greg Saunier (who enjoys improvising with guitarist Mary Halvorson and trumpeter Stephanie Richards) and throw into the mix Norwegian avant-noise-metal guitarist Anders Hana (from local groups MoHa!, Ultralyd and, Noxagt), who returned to musical activity after a seven-year sabbatical, and you already have enough ingredients for a super-exciting group, one that can reach apocalyptic climaxes in an instant. Still, the secret ingredient of this new group is Jernberg. Her strong presence seals the masculine maelstroms of fiery jazz, art rock, noise and poetic texts with a much needed feminine quality and emotional authority.

This potent dream team recorded its debut album, Svårmod Och Vemod Är Värdesinnen (in Swedish: dark melancholy and sadness are senses to be valued. This gory, suggestive titled is emphasized with the cover art by Edward Jarvis) in January 2018 in Bergen, Norway, after only three performances. Needless to say, the joint forces of Gustafsson and Møster with the baritone guitar of Hana and the propulsive drumming of Saunier promise raw, low-end onslaughts and boundless energy. Jernberg’s delivery - at times capricious, freewheeling wailing and on other times her one-of-a-kind singing-whispering-reciting charge the explosive mix with an urgent, even rebellious message of The End.

The album opens with two short pieces by Gustafsson and Hana. “Svårmod” offers everything you can expect from such group. Hana’s distorted-dirty, chainsaw guitar is in the center, embraced by the intense, baritone attacks of Gustafsson and Møster and the manic drumming of Saunier, while Jernberg screaming over this primordial lava. “Vemod” revolves around Hana’s hypnotic riff, that sound like a twisting West-African rhythmic rhythmic pattern with something catchy from the Captain Beefheart songbook, but already brings Jernberg wordless wailing to the center.

The End’s epic 14-minute “Translated Slaughter” is a completely different story. Jernberg acts, sighs, whispers and chants Gustafsson’s tortured-claustrophobic, stream-of-consciousness lyrics while Gustafsson and Møster are busy adding noisy, disturbing electronics. Hana deepens the dark atmosphere with assorted effects and Saunier keeps shaking this swampy ground with sudden attacks. Eventually, this pieces closes with a cathartic crescendo. Gustafsson’s “Don’t Wait” has a clearer - obvious - message (“...curiosity is the key, sharing is the key, don’t believe fuckin’ nothin’...”), and a familiar rhythmic structure, bringing to mind The Thing collaboration with vocalist Neneh Cherry (The Cherry Thing, Smalltown Supersound, 2012). The Jernberg thing offers her reciting-chanting the intuitive lyrics as half beat poet-half charismatic shaman, flirting majestically with the addictive, polyrhythmic pulse.

Møster’s brief interlude “Rich and Poor” serves as an introduction to his song “Both Sides Out”, a kind of requiem to post-Trump America that can be experienced psychoanalytic attempt to release the many demons from this tyrant’s deranged psyche. Jernberg continues to perform her shamanic duties, this time as an equal partner of The End’s brutal and terrifying cleansing ritual.

Only 44 minutes long but, no doubt, the best ones that you will spend in 2018.

More on Soundcloud.

Lana Trio with Sofia Jernberg (Clean Feed, 2018) ****

The experimental Norwegian Lana Trio - trombonist Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø, pianist Kjetil Jerve, and drummer Andreas Wildhagen, was formed in 2007. The trio managed to solidify in its first two albums a delicate balance between its intense, powerful interplay, an uncompromising search for new sounds and dynamics and a strong affinity for open-ended, non-idiomatic improvisations. Jernberg joined the trio for its third album, recorded on March 2016 in Halden, Norway, and performs now again with the trio after the release of the album.

Jernberg sounds as if she has been free-improvising with Lana Trio for ages. She fits organically in the wild yet loose chaos that Lana Trio keeps producing. But her operatic-eccentric delivery charges the focused interplay of the trio with an engaging, emotional depth/ Jernberg vocalizes wordless, seductive suggestions and uses her voice as an intriguing, subversive instrument.

Jernberg connection with Munkeby Nørstebø - who works with another experimental vocal artist, Audrey Chen, in the Beam Splitter - is almost telepathic. Both sound as have perfected their own imaginative, cryptic language. Wildhagen embraces these secretive talks with sudden, rhythmic eruptions while Jerve frames all with minimalist, percussive piano playing.

Each of the four free-improvised pieces focuses on a distinct strategy. The first one, “Ears Anciens”, is restless and urgent; the second, “Omnivore's Aperitif”, is enigmatic, sparse and surprisingly quiet; the third, “Ghost Training”, explodes with fiery flow of volcanic energy ; the fourth, “Solitude Chant”, concludes this wild ride with a mysterious, tempting ritual.

Jeong was recently hired to the New York Times editorial board when conservative trolls dug up tweets where she mocked white folks with the likes of #CancelWhitePeople. Most Americans descend from people born elsewhere. But what if instead of simply a nation of immigrants, we see our society as a eugenicist project forged by immigration quotas and selective deportation policies? This proposal may fly in the face of the civic nationalism many hold dear. Generations of politicians have repeated the mantra that anyone can be an American and that our identity is defined not by race or blood but by the embrace of laws and ideals. Yet many historians have dedicated their lives to studying the pivotal role of exclusion in making American identity through the histories of those who were deprived of the American dream because of race, color, and creed. In this introductory episode, we talk to scholars who have written about the emergence of deportation as a method of population control and punishment wielded by the US government on a mass scale since the 1920s. Then, we set the stage for the rest of our series by considering how people from the former Ottoman Empire were part of both the making and unmaking of America as a nation of immigrants.

Tomberlin - Any Other Way.

Background - Tomberlin, the rising Louisville, KY-based artist, has released a video for "Any Other Way," the opener from her anticipated Saddle Creek debut album, At Weddings. On her deeply moving debut album At Weddings, Sarah Beth Tomberlin writes with the clarity and wisdom of an artist well beyond her years. Immeasurable space circulates within the album's ten songs, which set Tomberlin's searching voice against lush backdrops of piano and guitar. Like Julien Baker and Sufjan Stevens, she has a knack for transforming the personal into parable. Like Grouper, she has a feel for the transcendent within the ordinary.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and now based in Louisville, Kentucky, Tomberlin wrote most of At Weddings while living with her family in southern Illinois during her late teens and early twenties. At 16, she finished her homeschooling curriculum and went to college at a private Christian school she describes, only half-jokingly, as a "cult." By 17, she had dropped out of school, returned home, and begun to face a period of difficult transition in her life. The daughter of a Baptist pastor, Tomberlin found herself questioning not only her faith, but her identity, her purpose, and her place in the world.

"I was working, going to school, and experiencing heavy isolation," Tomberlin says of the time when she first began writing the songs on At Weddings. "It felt monotonous, like endless nothingness. It was a means to get through to the next step of life." In songwriting, Tomberlin found relief and lucidity she had trouble articulating otherwise. When she was 19, she wrote "Tornado" on her parents' piano, and began to develop confidence in her music. A year later, she had written enough songs to fill an album.

Throughout At Weddings, Tomberlin's lyrics yearn for stability and belonging, a near-universal desire among young people learning to define themselves on their own terms for the first time. "I am a tornado with big green eyes and a heartbeat," she sings on "Tornado," her voice stretching to the top of her range. Rich, idiosyncratic imagery - a fly killed with a self-help book, brown paper bags slashed violently open, clouds that weep over a lost love - sidle up to profound realizations about learning to be alive in this world. "To be a woman is to be in pain," Tomberlin notes on "I'm Not Scared." On "A Video Game," she muses, "I wish I was a hero with something beautiful to say."

At Weddings is laden with reverence for music itself, for the power it has to heal others and help people navigate their lives. It is a record about learning to love oneself and others without reservation, from a place of deep sincerity - a lifelong challenge whose tribulations Tomberlin articulates beautifully. "My number one goal with my music is for honesty and transparency that helps other people find ways to exist," she says. With At Weddings, this remarkable young songwriter offers up comfort and wonder in equal measure. WEBSITE.

Back in June we featured 'Seventeen' describing the song as "a seriously good singer, songwriter track, with gorgeous vocals and a beautifully crafted musical arrangement that adds even more emotion." Now we have a new video for 'Any Other Way' the opening song on 'At Weddings', a beautiful album, as is further evidenced by this adorable piece. If either of these songs have grabbed your attention, I would suggest that making a little time to explore the remaining material, will be both rewarding and delight you even more.

Caezar - Hold On.

Background - UK natives Caezar have announced their much-anticipated debut EP ‘Hail!’ and have just shared their exciting new single with the world, titled ‘Hold On’. The group will be making their release through RG Records and have had the pleasure of having Justin Broad on board as the producer for this latest project, who has produced for names such as Jessie J, Emeli Sandé, Izzy Bizu and Corinne Bailey Rae. ‘Hail!’ also boasts mastering by formidable mastering engineer Stuart Hawkes, who’s work on artists such as Amy Winehouse, Clean Bandit, Rudimental and has been indispensable to pop music the world over. Playing alongside giant names such as Hozier, James Bay and Jack Garrett, Caezar can really hold their own in the scene and have had the pleasure of playing at the award-winning independent Barn on the Farm Festival as well as being featured on the acclaimed radio platform BBC Music Introducing, who have discovered many exceptional UK artists in the pop-rock genre such as Declan McKenna and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Hailing from the unassuming town of Cheltenham, the two founding members of Caezar, Chris Quiqley and Rich Gills decided to take their passion for music to the next level when the pair found themselves both suffering from sports injuries that meant they would no longer be able to play rugby for their local club. It was under the lights of the rugby pitch where the two ex-players decided that they would take their previously hidden musical talents to the stage. When Zoe joined the band in 2017, the trio really found their niche. Her soft synths and sweet-as-honey backing vocals helped build on the unique crossover of pop, indie and rock elements that make up the band’s special sound.

Caezar’s single ‘Hold On’ starts off with an infectious guitar lick that sets the mood of the song - pensive but upbeat. When Chris Quigley’s vocals enter the mix, it’s easy to hear that the group can be likened to modern pop-rock heroes Imagine Dragons and Bastille. The band’s mix of skillfully-played live instruments and expertly produced electronic beats coupled with strong, melodic lead vocals creates an impressively versatile sound. While there is a clear thoughtfulness in the lyricism and delivery of ‘Hold On’, the track still manages to create an uplifting, anthemic mood, with a dash of funk thrown in, much like the work of Will Heard. The track is one that’ll touch the listener on an emotional level while still making sure that the dance floor is packed with bodies moving to the crisp, fun beats.

The band explained that, “Just because you love someone, doesn't mean it's right. ‘Hold On’ was written out of the conflicted feelings of breaking up with someone who you still love. The track was one of the first songs the band wrote, and has since come to life after years of performing the track at festivals and finally in the studio with Justin Broad.” WEBSITE.

A sophisticated yet understated guitar opening on 'Hold On' is quickly joined by some addictive and captivating vocals and background harmonies. The song is undoubtedly cool and slick, what makes it stand out is the soulful delivery and the seemingly suppressed emotion within the vocals.

Worse than 'Fake News': The Forced Conformity of the Media!      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Helga Zepp-LaRouche giving an interview to an independent news media organization after the Schiller Institute's conference in early summer 2018. (Photo: Michelle Rasmussen / EIRNS)

by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, Chairwoman of the German political party BüSo, the Civil Rights Solidarity Party. You can follow Helga on twitter @ZeppLaRouche.

The following is an English translation of an article appearing in the German newspaper, Neue Solidarität.

Aug. 4—We should have learned from the 1920s and 1930s that the spread of cultural pessimism throughout the population has fatal consequences. But such pessimism is spreading today in many Western societies, and especially in Germany, in the face of uncertain future options, with the result that more and more citizens have completely given up the hope of being able to make a difference through their own participation, or they are joining right-wing parties that provide an outlet for anger but offer no solutions. The culprit in this development is not least the political establishment, which leads us to accept a “TINA” politics—TINA is the acronym for “there is no alternative”—and the forced conformity of the mainstream media, which suppress all messages that point to alternatives.

We are living through what is probably the greatest strategic change of all time. Under the leadership of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), the majority of the developing countries are currently focussing on close win-win cooperation, with the aim of achieving the leap to the status of industrialized nations, and a good standard of living for their entire populations as quickly as possible. The 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg July 25-27 included some of the largest and most important international organizations of developing countries, such as the Group of 77, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mercosur, and the African Union, which were there to join forces with the BRICS in what might be called the Global South initiative.

The New Silk Road is Changing Everything

China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and the idea that relations are no longer based on geopolitical confrontation but on mutual benefit, have changed the political climate in many regions of the world in a completely positive way. For example, the election victory of newly designated Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has created for the first time the potential to settle the conflict between India and Pakistan. Khan promised to ensure that his country takes two steps toward India for every step that India takes towards Pakistan. The cooperation between the BRICS countries also has its impact on Pakistan; China has traditionally good relations with Pakistan, and just now the Russian and Pakistani navies had a high-level meeting, after the first-ever joint manoeuvres of Russian and Pakistani ground troops took place just one year ago.

The Horn of Africa is also embraced by the new spirit of cooperation. There the hitherto mutually hostile states of Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea and Ethiopia are massively expanding their mutual diplomatic and economic relations, largely thanks to Chinese investment, such as in the construction of the railway from Djibouti to Addis Abeba.

And, in contrast to the consistently negative media coverage of the progress of negotiations between North and South Korea and the United States, this process is on a good track, with the option that a leading North Korean government official may speak in New York before the upcoming UN General Assembly in September.

Meanwhile, the Syrian government has begun the economic reconstruction of the province of Aleppo. The first part of a three-phase program is the reconstruction of the infrastructure, the second step is the specific provisioning of each individual family, and the third phase is the return of people to a safe environment, as the Deputy Governor of the province, Hamid Kenno, stressed. At the same time, the Russian military has helped create a refugee center in Syria that will welcome refugees returning from Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, and assist them in their return to their homes. An inter-ministerial coordination committee of the Russian Foreign and Defense Ministries has taken over the orderly repatriation of the refugees.

You Aren't Hearing the Good News

One might assume that these developments would dominate headlines, immediately bringing hope to all clear-thinking people that world peace has become more secure, poverty can be overcome, and the refugee crisis can be resolved in a human way. Instead, the media do not say a word about the “Global South” initiative. An article in the German national daily, Die Welt, furnished with much geopolitical spin, cites Xi Jinping’s speech at the BRICS Summit: “Africa has more development potential than any other region in the world.” And what does the author conclude? That “China is working to build its empire” and the upcoming summit between China and the African nations in Beijing this September is just Xi Jinping’s “charm offensive.”

Of course, this censorship of good news has the purpose of depicting the politics of the old neo-liberal paradigm as having no alternative. If China—incidentally, along with India, Russia and Japan—now demonstrates that Africa can indeed be industrialized, and if that were truthfully reported, then someone might think to ask why the African continent, after centuries of colonialism and decades of the IMF’s notorious credit conditionalities, is in its current precarious state, and whether this is not a major cause of the refugee crisis.

Instead of responding to China’s repeated offer to work together with the African states on their industrialization in the context of the New Silk Road, the German government is blocking Chinese investments in Germany, such as the recent acquisition of the precision machinery manufacturer Leifeld Metal Spinning, although various surveys confirm that Chinese investors have always taken care to increase the number of jobs and raise wages. Where was the government’s veto when, in recent years, dozens of American and British hedge funds have taken everything from mid-sized companies to housing companies and infrastructure, carved out the choicest portions to sell, and closed down the rest as socially unacceptable?

It is an absurd idea to think that one could halt the rise of emerging and developing countries—India and China alone account for 2.6 billion people—and impose the neo-liberal model of geopolitics as the only possible option on the rest of the world. Blair’s and Obama’s policies of converting the whole world to Western democracy through regime change and “humanitarian” interventions, as a sort of modern crusade, have clearly failed. Neither China nor Russia wants this model, and more and more developing countries see the Chinese model as the model for their own development.

The reason is that the BRICS offer a form of cooperation that focuses on mutual development, while “the West” prefers the neo-liberal model of profit maximization for the few at the expense of the many. It is also not overlooked in the rest of the world that the EU is slipping into more and more disagreement between its member states, whether in dealing with the refugee crisis; in choosing between greater integration versus emphasis on sovereignty; or in relations with China, Russia and the United States.

Looking at the world through Eurocentric glasses obscures the view that the greater part of humanity, represented by the BRICS and Global South, has drawn from the neo-liberal policies of the West the conclusion that a revision of the current system of global governance is urgently needed, and that this reorganization cannot be left to the West.

Instead of arrogantly continuing to sit on the high horse of egoism in their supposed superiority and soon landing their own populations on the margins of history, the nations of Europe, and the United States, should look to the offers from China and Russia for cooperation and co-creation of the New Paradigm. Despite the punitive tariffs imposed by Trump, China continues to offer cooperation with the United States in order to overcome the trade deficit through joint ventures in third countries. A spokeswoman for China’s Ministry of Commerce has just said, “We always believe that bad things can be turned into good ones and challenges can be turned into opportunities.”

And at the just-ended ASEAN Summit in Singapore, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov recalled Putin’s words at the 2016 Russia-ASEAN Summit in Sochi, where he called on partner-countries to be aware of the huge geopolitical and geo-economic potential of the Eurasian continent, where the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) complement each other. Lavrov stressed that the door remains open to the EU, and no one should doubt that the EU should be interested in it purely for pragmatic economic and business interests.

But one could also find reasons for such cooperation that go beyond the pragmatic. If Europe does not want to completely forget, and lose, its humanistic and classical culture, then we could revive the ideas of Nicholas of Cusa, Leibniz and Schiller, and make our contribution to the development of humanity. You certainly will not read about it in the mainstream media. But you can read it here.

A Shared Future for Humanity—Free of the British Empire      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
President Donald J. Trump and Queen Elizabeth II (invisible) | July 13, 2018 (Official White House Photo by Andrea Hanks)

The British Empire would have you believe that they are totally in control of the current strategic situation, and fully confident that their Empire will last another thousand years. Is that why they have found it necessary to:

  • Attempt to cut off all communication between Presidents Trump and Putin?
  • Try to induce all-out trade and financial warfare with China and its Belt and Road Initiative?
  • Seek to set the fascist precedent of shutting down any and all website and twitter accounts that they find objectionable, to silence all opposition views?
  • Topple governments and throw presidents in jail, on trumped-up "corruption" charges facilitated by J. Edgar Hoover-style plea bargain blackmail?
  • Assassinate engineers and scientists at the center of their nations' development efforts?
  • And, most significantly, maintain their desperate ploy to topple the Trump government with the endless, contrived twists and turns of Russiagate?

But these are not signs of strength. They are signs of over-deployment and exposure to public view. The British Empire is vulnerable.

They are especially vulnerable to the spread of the Spirit of the New Silk Road across the planet, and the optimistic clarity of thought and purpose it tends to promote. To this must be fused the solutions uniquely provided by LaRouche's science of physical economy, as exemplified by his Four Laws policy of 2014. Each and every culture must return to its own best classical traditions; each and every nation's population must elevate their thinking to this level.

Both Russia and China are responding to the challenges and crises they face with deeper strategic planning on alternatives to the current dying imperial system, plans which clearly take into account their differentiated reading of the U.S. political situation, including the battle Trump is waging to establish mutually-beneficial relations with their countries, in particular. Thus, Putin and Trump remain in dialogue through letters and other channels of communication, with Putin proposing concreate areas of cooperation on nuclear arms control. And China continues to make it clear that the policy of trade and financial warfare against China will not only fail, but will actually backfire and be harmful to U.S. national interests as well.

The principle in play, of "a shared future for humanity," is what Lyndon LaRouche otherwise presented in the form of his Four Powers proposal, of an alliance of the U.S., China, Russia and India, as well as other nations, to defeat the bankrupt British Empire and its pessimistic (and unscientific) view of man, the universe, and God.

When the Resistance is Really the Assistance
Authors

We all learned in school that some countries have a single governing party. If you’re not in that party, you can’t be part of the government. The US has two government parties, Republicans and Democrats, both funded by the corporations and wealthy individuals who make up this country’s capitalist elite. If you’re not in either one of the government parties, you’re denied access to media and in many states, laws are passed specifically to keep you off the ballot.

While the two parties are funded by pretty much the same class of people, their social bases are different. Since the 1960s, Republicans have made it clear that they are the white man’s party, the party of war abroad and racist reaction at home. Democrats, for electoral purposes are obliged to stake a contrary claim. Since the election of Donald Trump Democrats have branded themselves “the resistance.”

This month the House and Senate passed the reconciled version of the 2019 Pentagon budget on to the White House. On TV and establishment media they call it a defense budget, but that’s branding too. The second world war which ended in 1945 killed 60 or 65 million people, after the first world war claimed 30 million only a generation earlier. This sort of gave war bad name. So in 1948 they changed the name of the US Department of War to the US Department of Defense. With the stroke of a pen, wealthy merchants of death as they were widely known, the war contractors, all became patriotic defense contractors. The US Secretary of War became the US Secretary of Defense, and the US war budget, by far the world’s largest, became the defense budget. And so it’s been for seven decades.

Early this month, the House and Senate passed the reconciled version of the US war budget to the president for signatgure. It’s the earliest in the budget cycle Congress has done a military budget since 1996 or 1997, when a Democrat in the White House and Democrats in Congress were anxious to assure Republicans that they were all on the same side.

They call this year’s atrocity the John McCain National Defense Authorization Act, worth a record $716 billion. This total doesn’t include the budget of the Afghan war, which lives somewhere else, or the budgets of several other known programs, and there are secret budgets for more or less secret programs as well. Nobody really doubts that actual US military spending has hovered around a trillion a year for several years now.

So how did the resistance perform? In the Senate the vote was 87 to 10, three not voting. Only 8 Democrats resisted. Among them Liz Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand. Dick Durbin of Illinois also voted against the Pentagon bill. This is purest theater, because Durbin since 2005 has been Democratic Whip in the Senate, the man responsible for lining up the votes of his fellow senators. If this meant anything to him, why did only 7 other Democrats vote with their supposed leader?

In the House the vote was 351 to 66, with 139 Democrats voting yes, 49 voting no, and 5 not voting. So the resistance was really the assistance, voting almost 2 to 1 to continue spending as much on US wars around the world as the next nine or ten countries put together.

The Congressional Black Caucus was even more eager to assist the US posture of global war than Democrats as a whole, a pattern Glen Ford has called out repeatedly in recent years. CBC members voted 34 to 8 in favor of the permanent war budget, which includes Trump’s military parade, a new Space Force, and scores of drone bases in Africa that put almost the entire continent under US cameras and guns. Noted progresssive Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the only Muslim in Congress, abstained. The CBC members who found the spine to cast votes against the war budget were Bonnie Watson-Coleman, Barbara Lee, John Lewis (who does have a US Navy oiler named after him), Hakim Jeffires, Yvette Clarke, Karne Bass, Bobby Rush, and Hank Johnson.

The House Progressive Caucus did a little better, but still only 28, less than half its membership of 64 opposed the Pentagon budget. That’s what it means to be a progressive Democrat these days.

When most of the so-called progressives are pro-war we can legitimately say that the resistance is really the assistance.

Vision Crew's New Mixtape Is The Sound Of Lewisham      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Vision Crew
"'Swimming In The Blue' is the raw representation of our upbringing and lifestyle..."

Whoever commented recently on grime's so-called demise has clearly never been to Lewisham.

The south London borough has an astonishingly rich grime lineage, right from the first wave to the present day.

As if having Mercury nominee Novelist as youth mayor wasn't evidence enough, Lewisham is currently home to Vision Crew, one of the most vital new forces in grime.

Building on the successes of the past by aiming for an uncharted future, Visions Crew is a looseknit grouping of producers and MCs, each with a style of their own.

They work as any group of friends - pushing each other further, the sense of bravado and one-up-man-ship gives the crew a stunning sense of power.

New tape 'Swimming In The Blue' is incoming on Keepin' It Grimy, the label set up by DJ, broadcaster and perpetual grime supporter Logan Sama.

A taut, concise tape, it's a natural blend of styles that makes its points in an incisive manner - of course, it also helps that the beats pop, the bars rip themselves out of the stereo.

As sound engineering goes, it's perfectly matched to that London borough, it's network of streets, alleys, and avenues.

Das Body's 'Graceland' Offers Frozen Post-Disco Thrills      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Das Body (Credit: Espen Rst)
It's one for fans of Chromatics or even early Madonna...

Das Body are only just beginning to sketch out their universe, only just beginning to detail the outline of their realm.

Their debut EP - self-titled, of course - arrives on September 28th (order LINK), led by recent dark-pop single 'Boys'.

A frozen slice of 80s machine funk, the single is now followed by something different, something that plies an outsider aesthetic.

'Graceland' feels like early Madonna sluiced through the Drive soundtrack, as if Chromatics had suddenly decided to remix Robyn.

Driving head-long past neon-lit fjords, it's powered by Elie Linden's dramatic vocal. She explains:

'Graceland' "is more of a feeling than a song. Playing it live feels like starring in a neo-noir movie with Elvis. Graceland is like a battle between the never-ending drumbeat and the unsettling vocals, held together by some simple chords. It was an intense journey to write, it's an intense journey to play and it's probably an intense listen."

Set to play Norway's Oya festival this weekend, this is the perfect opportunity to soak up Das Body.

Tune in now.

Brooklyn's Future Generations Supply Off Piste Pop Thrills On 'Suddenly'      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Future Generations
New album 'Landscape' is incoming...

Future Generations are pretty damn close.

They live together, create art together, perform together... in fact, there's very little they don't actually do.

New album 'Landscape' is set to arrive via Frenchkiss on September 14th, and it's pushed the five-piece to the limit.

“Making this album was the most creative time we’d ever experienced together,” says the band's Eddie Gore. “I remember after the ninth day of recording, we were all walking to the subway together to go home, and we just stopped and looked at each other like, ‘This is crazy, what’s happening here.’ It was this euphoric experience; the energy in the studio was completely palpable.”

Out shortly, we're able to give fans a preview by sharing new song 'Suddenly', an off piste, continually inventive alt-pop number.

Matching new wave tendencies against synth pop noises, their bubblegum melodies rub up against songwriting more neatly filled as indie rock.

The sound of five people working together but retaining that inherent contrast, 'Suddenly' is an intense but colourful experience.

Georgia Meek Soars On 'Right Kind Of Wrong'      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Georgia Meek
A surging step forward from the North Londoner...

North London's Georgia Meek made a stellar entrance earlier this year.

Debut cut 'Bare' was a perfectly built pop missile, a true statement of intent that clocked up 300,000 streams in a matter of weeks.

An organic viral success, she went straight back into the studio, an emboldened spirit eager to prove herself.

New single 'Right King Of Wrong' is the result, a stellar return that features muscular production and that surging, epic chorus.

Here's a few words from Georgia...

“‘Right Kind Of Wrong’ is my battle song. It’s chemical warfare on ‘love’ and how we fool ourselves into thinking that what feels good isn’t always the best thing for us...”

MI GOP Congressman dodges town halls with Democratic opponent; hides behind "telephone town halls"      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Since I began my campaign for congress, there have been many blessings. Meeting people who have invested in this campaign with their time, money, sweat and tears has made me a stronger person and a better candidate. Seeing people work 12, 14 and 16 hour days for something they believe in has humbled me. However, running for congress has also given me a look behind the curtain of why people dislike politicians.

Let’s look at my opponent Bill Huizenga.

Bill Huizenga raises the vast majority of his campaign funds from corporate PACs — organizations like Exxon Mobile, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America. Big Banks, Big Pharma, and Big Insurance PACs cut big checks. Therefore, it’s not surprising when he votes for banking deregulation and taking away healthcare from millions of Americans. I raise my campaign funds from in-state friends like Ed in Whitehall, Nikki in Spring Lake, and Linda in Holland. I also receive a number of $5 and $10 donations from people across the country who share my vision of Medicare For All and a political system that is not corrupted by money and special interests.

I believe members of congress should be true representatives of the people who elect them. That means speaking with your constituents — including those who disagree with you — and answering the tough questions. Back in early July, I shared how Congressman Huizenga insulted his constituents who attend town halls. Since then, thousands of constituents have joined me in calling for him to hold an in-person public town hall. His last in-person town hall was August 23, 2017. Town halls are important. They are part of the reason I entered this race. I attended two town halls in 2017 and challenged Congressman Huizenga on the issue of healthcare. I asked him if he believed healthcare was a right and he said no. So I decided to run against him.

I have had a wonderful time making my case to voters. I’ll gladly take questions from Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. Last week, I held a town hall in Zeeland, Congressman Huizenga’s hometown. Zeeland voted over 70% for Donald Trump in the 2016 election. Last week, over 200 people attended. I had a wonderful time meeting people and hearing their stories. Some agreed with me on Medicare For All. Some disagreed. That’s okay. This is a democracy, after all!

I was disappointed to hear that with just 24 hours notice, Congressman Huizenga announced he would be holding a telephone “town hall” yesterday, August 8th. See, congress is on recess. We know Bill Huizenga is back in the district. Yet he refused to respond to our invitation to last week’s town hall and has yet to respond to an invitation to an August 14th town hall. With the technological glitches, stall tactics, and pre-selected screening process, Congressman Huizenga managed to answer just a handful of questions in less than one hour before signing off. This is his idea of constituent engagement. It’s a true sham. I am proud to have signed the #TownHallPledge through the Town Hall Project. Congressman Huizenga has been avoiding an in-person town hall with his constituents for nearly a full year now.

One notable moment in the “town hall” occurred when Congressman Huizenga received a question from a constituent about the June 19th Republican proposal to balance the budget by cutting Social Security and Medicare. One week prior to that proposal, Congressman Huizenga had told this constituent that nobody in the house was talking about cutting Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Huizenga’s answer can best be described as verbal diarrhea. It is clear that we cannot count on Congressman Huizenga to protect Social Security and Medicare. Listen for yourself.

Unfortunately, the “setting” of a telephone “town hall” does not allow for any feedback or rebuttal. That’s unfortunate.

I hope Congressman Huizenga will reverse course soon and agree to a public, in-person town hall or debate. He has an open invitation to join me in Wyoming, Michigan at 7pm on Tuesday August 14th. What do you say, Bill?

Deporting Ottoman Americans      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

I love it when people wear their bird print clothing.

An invitation to read in the heart of cajun country should be at the top of the list for any poet or artist looking for a friendly venue with a superb set up. Breaux Bridge and the Teche Center for Arts wins the prize, at least in Steve's opinion. I have fun reading poems and telling anecdotes about the making of the poems wherever I go. Since I often travel with my own roadie, I try not to bore him with the same set. And there was something extra special about reading in the crawfish capital of the world.

Melinda and Steve

This month it's been very easy choosing which poems to read. For the New Orleans launch at Octavia Books, I hit a few of the favorites, the title poem and the ekphrastic poem based on the cover of the book, the visual helps sell books. For the reading at Trinity's labyrinth, I chose my more devotional and sacred set. I've had people tell me that my readings feel like a prayer. With poems, such as the Praying Tree  (listen to this poem at the Academy of American Poets) and Beneath the Devotion of Doves, there's a sacramental and sacred element to Bird Forgiveness that I didn't connect with before being asked to read in a church in between organ pipe music, a favorite event for me. For the reading in Breaux Bridge, I performed a longer set, about 40 minutes. I made sure to read from each section of the book. Poet Laureate Emeritus of Louisiana, Darrell Bourque introduced me and his kind words about my work made me want to cry, but I held it together, professional poet that I am. I was impressed by the variety of people who attended, one of whom had never been to a poetry reading. I'm so honored to be the first to bring poetry into her life. I'm still basking in all the nice things people said about the reading. Director of the center, Sandra Sarr wrote a lovely post on social media:

"Sometimes magic happens. Melinda Palacio and her poetry had the audience spellbound as she read from her new book, Bird Forgiveness at TCA last night. Our special guest, Louisiana Poet Laureate Emeritus Darrell Bourque introduced our featured poet and we are so grateful to him for his always insightful words. Artist Kelly Guidry provided his beautiful bird sculptures, hummingbirds of wood and metal, as the perfect backdrop for Melinda’s Bird Forgiveness reading. The room was filled with brilliant poets and poetry lovers and the magic lingers."

Here's a clip from the reading for you to hear samples of the poems for yourself. If you want to read more of Bird Forgiveness, order the book online at 3: A Taos Press or from your favorite bookstore.

Penn State defense praised by anonymous coach; Ricky Rahne talks offense, and more      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Today's Penn State football news headlines feature comments from anonymous rival coaches and Ricky Rahne's take on the new-look Lions offense.

Today's Penn State football news headlines feature comments from anonymous rival coaches and Ricky Rahne's take on the new-look Lions offense.

Sports Illustrated's staff gathered comments from rival coaches about some of the nation's top college football teams. Two coaches weighed in on Penn State, including this remark about about Brent Pry and his defense. The anonymous coach is high on the group's physicality and Pry's scheme.

The coach said:

Defensively, they do a good job of mixing up fronts and pressures and keeping you off balance with their safeties. And if you ask our kids, they'll say they're the most physical team we face. Their D-line is not the most talented, but guys like Kevin Givens and Shareef Miller play harder than anyone else we play. [Coordinator Brent] Pry makes it tough to make big plays.

StateCollege.com's Mike Poorman asked the question of Rahne, Penn State's first-year offensive coordinator, whose offense is it, anyway? Quarterback Trace McSorley is back for his fifth-year senior season, while James Franklin calls the shots from the top and Rahne is beginning his tenure replacing Joe Moorhead.

In other Penn State football news, Juwan Johnson wants to be remembered for more than just his Iowa catch. Saquon Barkley breaks a big run on his first NFL touch, and the Big Ten got its divisions right.

PennLive's Bob Flounders, Greg Pickel and Dustin Hockensmith also talk Penn State football on the Keystone Sports Network. Check out audio from their latest podcast below.

Russian Haxxors In Florida's Database, Killin' Ur Votz      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

US Senator Bill Nelson of Florida is warning state election officials they need to up their computer security, because Russian hackers have already "penetrated" some of the state's voter registration systems. Election officials have responded by saying there's nothing to worry about, since they have no idea what Nelson means, and why is he picking on them, anyway?

Nelson seemed pretty darn sure about all that when he talked to the Tampa Bay Times Wednesday, telling the paper, "They have already penetrated certain counties in the state and they now have free rein to move about." The Times notes he'd made a similar comment at a campaign appearance Tuesday, but hadn't gone into any detail, adding, "That's classified."

In the Wednesday interview, Nelson told the paper about a letter he and Florida's other Senator, Marco Rubio, had sent to all 67 county election supervisors in July, although that letter wasn't as vaguely specific as Nelson's more recent comments. The letter recommended the Department of Homeland Security provide "a wide range of services" to county election boards, saying local authorities "should not be expected to stand alone against a hostile foreign government."

Nelson said he and Rubio "were requested by the chairman and vice chairman of the Intelligence Committee to let the supervisors of election in Florida know that the Russians are in their records." Oh, look, here is that audio!

A spokesperson for the Florida Department of State, Sarah Revell, basically called Nelson a big lying liar, because we guess that's just how Democrats are, especially if it's a Democrat running against Gov. Rick Scott. Revell said her agency had

received zero information from Senator Nelson or his staff that support his claims [...] Additionally, the Department has received no information from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that corroborates Senator Nelson's statement and we have no evidence to support these claims.

If Senator Nelson has specific information about threats to our elections, he should share it with election officials in Florida.

So then the department can insist that information isn't credible, either. The Times did find two county officials who said they'd heard a similar warning from Marco Rubio in a meeting in May. One, Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer, said Rubio had warned that some election offices weren't taking computer security seriously enough and needed to get on the ball, although he said Rubio, when asked which ones, "looked around the room and said, 'I don't believe it's anybody here.'" Another official who'd been at the meeting, Okaloosa Supervisor of Elections Paul Lux, said Rubio had given a warning but that it had been too vague to be of any use in actually taking action.

County elections officials have said they've boosted their computer security since 2016, but some were spooked enough by Nelson's comments that they contacted federal officials:

Pinellas County elections officials immediately contacted the FBI, Homeland Security and other state and federal agencies in a futile attempt to find out more about Nelson's assertion.

"Our office has not seen any indication that we have had any penetration by any bad actions," said Pinellas election's office spokesman Dustin Chase.

Nelson said he and Rubio really had warned elections officials about the possible active security threats:

"This is no fooling time and that's why two senators, bipartisan, reached out to the election apparatus of Florida to let them know the Russians are in your records and all they have to do, if those election records are not protected, is to go in and start eliminating registered voters," Nelson said Wednesday.

"You can imagine the chaos that would occur on Election Day when the voters get to the polls and they say, 'I'm sorry Mr. Smith, I'm sorry Mr. Jones, you're not registered.' That's exactly what the Russians want to do. They want to sow chaos in our democratic institutions."

Thankfully, the computer security experts at RedState have figured out Nelson's merely playing the Russia Card in a doomed attempt to head off his certain defeat by Rick Scott, because obviously all Democrats know how to do is lie about Russia:

Even if this story is true, so what? Penetrating a voter registration system lets you do two things only. You can add voters and you can delete voters. If you add voters, someone has to show up to vote for them. As we know from history, only one party brings in fake voters…and it ain't Rick Scott's.

That is just an obvious fact. The real threat remains brown people voting, all of them illegally, even if the only proof is that every Republican "just knows" it.

RedState is sophisticated to know "the evil and godless Russkies" are merely a quaint rumor from yesteryear. Besides, if the voting rolls were tampered with, not that it's even likely, it wouldn't cause any real trouble:

If you delete voters, they have a legal right to vote a provisional ballot. Precinct judges will immediately notice if there are an unusual number of provisionals, plus voters will be pissed about the inconvenience. There are backup and archived versions of the voter file so it is no big deal to determine if they have been tampered with and a quick search can verify that provisional ballots are legitimate. As a backup, the county elections board can use tax records and utility records to verify residence.

Then, to be on the safe side, they'll throw out all the provisional ballots from people named Garcia, Rodriguez, Martinez, and Hernandez. Hell, you don't need a made-up Russian threat to know those aren't legal votes.

Segment 1- Documentary. The Blockchain and Us.

Manuel Stagars

A film by Manuel Stagars http://www.blockchain-documentary.com For more interviews about the brave new world of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, see Manuel's podcast: http://www.theblockchainandus.com. In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto invented bitcoin and the blockchain. For the first time in history, his invention made it possible to send money around the globe without banks, governments or any other intermediaries. The concept of the blockchain isn’t very intuitive. But still, many people believe it is a game changer. Economist and filmmaker Manuel Stagars portrays this exciting technology in interviews with software developers, cryptologists, researchers, entrepreneurs, consultants, VCs, authors, politicians, and futurists from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and Australia. The Blockchain and Us is no explainer video of the technology. It gives a view on the topic, makes it accessible and starts a conversation about its potential wider implications in a non-technical way. The film deliberately poses more questions than it answers. For a deep dive, see all full-length interviews from the film here: http://www.blockchain-documentary.com...     Published on Apr 4, 2017

#247 Ryan Selkis: Messari - Bringing Transparency and Self-Regulation to the Blockchain Industry      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Since he started blogging as Two Bit Idiot in 2013, Ryan Selkis has been both industry insider and industry critic. Consistently calling out excesses and abuses, but also maintaining his sights on the long-term potential.

He recently founded Messari, a project that aims to bring more transparency and fairness to the industry. Messari has narrowed in on siloed, inaccurate and incomplete data as a key factor that allows insiders to profit at the expense of the public. We talked about the various ways in which Messari tackles that problem, ranging from a community-led effort to gather project data to the ambitious goal of a token-curated registry of stand-up projects.

Topics discussed in this episode:

  • Ryan's start into the crypto industry as pseudonymous blogger Two Bit Idiot
  • His insights from being the Digital Currency Group's first employee
  • CoinDesk and the challenges of journalism in crypto
  • Why poor and inaccurate information benefits industry insiders at the expense of retail investors
  • Messari's mission to lead a self-regulatory effort for the crypto industry
  • How an open, distributed crypto data library could help create a fairer playing field
  • The plans for Messari's token-curated registry of projects following reporting standards
  • The economics and game theory around the Messari token and TCR

Jordan Reyes Walks a Haunting "Crooked Road" (premiere)      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

None

"The Crooked Road" is the first song to be released from Jordan Reyes' latest cassette EP, Afraid of Death, which will be released August 25th. Between his recently founded American Damage label and Moniker Records (which he co-owns), the Chicago resident oversees the release of a dynamic range of music, and his own solo tapes have an imposing but spare, shadowy presence. On Afraid of Death, like his previous cassette Isn't That Fun, his lyrics are often underpinned by a lone instrument, incidental and found sounds, and a faint cold room echo.

Dedicated to a close family member who recently passed away, Afraid of Death is reflective without giving in to moroseness. "You don't know what I'm thinking / You don't know I'm impure / You don't know all the dreams I had / When I'm crawling on all fours," he sings deep and hushed against a down-stroked acoustic guitar. As he vows to absolve himself of his own sins, what sounds like either rustling fabric or a radio signal twisting into connection comes in, and a ghostly operatic voice joins him. The two continue together until Reyes drops out and the soprano specter lingers, the effect of which is that "The Crooked Road" feels almost like two aged field recordings from different places and times that somehow found each other.

Ex-Poets Step Out of the Shadows and into the Spotlight on "Still Waiting" (premiere)      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

From working with Sondre Lerche to Juliana Daugherty, multi-instrumentalists Jordan Brooks and Colin Killalea have served a long and varied musical apprenticeship. Since breaking up their band Pocketknife, the duo has spent years adding groove and texture to the work of all manner of artists, most notably touring and recording with the Strokes' guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. Now, in anticipation of their forthcoming debut album Too Much Future, Ex-Poets are striking out on their own with the self-assured, strutting new single "Still Waiting".

"Still Waiting" is a song that keeps things relatively simple. Anchored by the steady thrum of a cruising bassline that strides through the song like the coolest cat swaggering through the neighbourhood. It's the kind of animated opening that perfectly suits steady rolling down long avenues whether by car or on foot. Coupled with lithe synths that snake their way around Colin Killalea's purposely elliptical lyrics, the pair establish a smooth, summery groove albeit one with an underlying sense of longing. It's a song that succeeds in leaving a lasting emotional impression, something that the pair were keen to establish.

"To me, it's a song about loss and the actions left undone. That said, these songs aren't about specific narratives. Colin will often improvise a melody using syllabic sounds and then we write lyrics around those sounds. Ultimately, the record is more about the feeling and vibe it creates rather than the lyrical intention."

On "Still Waiting" Ex-poets grab their opportunity to take centre stage.

felicita's 'hej!' (Re)Performs Diasporic Traditions      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

None

With the uncertainty of the post-Brexit EU settlement and immigration policies, British Poles have begun to voice their concerns. For the Polish diaspora, the UK is not only a place to work but also a home. As the largest non-British EU citizen group in Britain, with two waves of immigration coming during World War II and the 2004 enlargement of the EU, British Poles have developed traditions that are as British as they are Polish. Hence, the protection of such transculturality is essential to Polish diaspora artists such as felicita.

felicita is the project of Dominic Dvorak, a London-based, Anglo-Polish, Mandarin-speaking, PC Music signee, music producer, choreographer, and costume designer. Surely, this winding title would read better with fewer descriptors, but the rejection of complexity is exactly what Dvorak's latest work is against. Rather, the felicita debut full-length hej! delves into the intricacies of diasporic identities. Its ten tracks embrace hybridity and demonstrate how diaspora art can harmoniously maintain displaced traditions through (re)performance — from the sounds of Polish lullabies to UK bass music; from the movements of Polish dance theaters to grimy London nightclubs.

To begin the transcultural experience of felicita, hej! opens with the title track. It is a humble piano introduction that is performed with the Mazury Dance Company, one of the largest Polish dance groups in the UK. On its music video, as the slightly distorted piano warmly wobbles in and out of tune like an ode to Boards of Canada, the troupe follows by gracefully twirling and leaping in their traditional floral embroidered garbs. However, as the dancers are displaced from their typically jubilant folk music, their movements are suppressed in slow motion and their smiles are painted red by the ominous light. Like the British Poles who are burdened by the looming possibility of a no-deal Brexit, the Polish dancers are weighed down. The group that once celebrated Poland's entry into the EU is now flipped upside down into a suspended handstand as the UK leaves.

Also collaborating with the Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble, one of the largest folk groups in Poland, the album's two-part centerpiece is composed to reimagine the movements of the polonaise, a traditional Polish dance. While this processional dance style is typically accompanied by music in triple time, "soft power I" moves off-pattern. As the oneiric piano lulls with its swathing progression, its rolling hi-hats and deep kicks sporadically sputter. Following, "soft power II" replaces the percussion with the sampled vocals and heel clicks of Dvorak and Caroline Polachek, emulating the euphoric yelps, claps, and foot stomps of Polish folk dancers. First performed at the Unsound Festival in Kraków, Poland, Dvorak (re)preforms the polonaise for the homeland crowd through the diasporic perspective.

Polachek also provides her vocals for "marzipan" to sing Dvorak's rendition of the Polish lullaby "Był sobie król". On an interview with TANK magazine, Dvorak explains that the ghastly ballad recollects the childhood memories of a summer camp in North Wales for UK-based Polish children. Within the camp house that used to serve as an emergency hospital for wounded soldiers during WWII, the Polish lullaby was eerily recited as a communal goodnight. Hence, Polachek's beautifully haunting vocal performance retells a childhood tale that is unique to Dvorak and the British Poles. With every creaking keystroke and tensive synth crescendo, Dvorak conjures the collective diasporic memory of a king, a queen, and a pageboy.

Apart from the four aforementioned piano compositions, hej! gets quite abrasive. For every Polish-inspired nocturne, an abstraction of UK bass follows. "coughing up amber" abruptly disrupts the title track, throttling metallic synths before unraveling into an ambient close. Similarly, "shook" bothers "soft power II", slamming a bitcrushed synth line that bounces with as much vigor and heat as an open-air rave on a humid Summer day. Lastly, "night soil (fade out)" jumps miles away from "marzipan", erratically shaking with syncopated samples and ear-piercing explosions. While these transitions feel sudden, they display the variousness of Dvorak's cultural influences.

Accordingly, the album comes to an end with the appropriately titled "mosaic genetics". The closing song is as disjointed as the tracklist, but to this effect the intricacies of diasporic identities are reflected. Never settling into a single sound, never claiming a single culture, hej! speckles mosaics rather than idealizing purity. Like an oddly planned but beautifully bewildering night out, the album jumps from the delicate pianos of Polish ballet theaters to the thumping bass of London nightclubs. As if Dvorak frequented both cultural settings in a single outing, inspiration is found in both the composed movement of folk dancers and the primal flailing of local clubbers. So, the amalgamation of these seemingly contrary styles uniquely describes felicita: someone who is not solely British or Polish, but is rightfully a participant of both cultures. Hence, hej! articulates the changing meaning of tradition within the cultural mosaic; most importantly, Dvorak demonstrates harmony through hybridity, asserting a necessary post-Brexit statement.

The Love Language Outwardly Rejects Uniformity Throughout 'Baby Grand'      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

None

It's been five years since we last heard from Stuart McLamb, or more commonly known as the man behind the indie rock band, the Love Language. Now based in Los Angeles, the Love Language's new album, Baby Grand, is composed of sincere emotionalism tinged with cacophonous hi-fi buoyancy. Baby Grand is a study of contrasts, as the Love Language's saccharine pop-sensibilities underscore affective lyrics while diverging with razor-sharp instrumentation. Often the contraposition falls flat, as the album lacks cohesion and resembles a musical patchwork. Regardless, Baby Grand succeeds overall as it takes the Love Language into new sonic territory.

Since the Love Language's inception, McLamb has demonstrated a penchant for breakup songs. Baby Grand begins with "Frames" which revisits McLamb's emotional processing and introspection of love gone awry. The track's fortitude establishes the foundation for the album's energy. Baby Grand is endowed with a furious and expeditious musicality that also aurally symbolizes the frenzy associated with turmoil. That repeats on the track "Shared Spaces" that echoes the album's theme of existential crisis. The vibrant synths add a layer of exuberance to experiencing "these emotions swing like days and nights oscillate".

"Castle in the Sky" is a reference to the idiom demarcating the impossibility of fulfilling some dreams. The track's rolling drum line evokes aural reminders of early Joy Division's post-punk discordance. But at its core, "Castle in the Sky" is an anti-love song. The track demonstrates that romance and intimacy aren't always synergistic even when you "cut it with a knife, with a knife / Buried between here and the afterlife." The Love Language cites a painful reminder that our reality is harsh and our visions are frequently unrealistic. "Castle in the Sky" illustrates that the fantasy of absolute love overshadowing the inevitable heartache.

None

None

But McLamb isn't wallowing and Baby Grand is never emotionally overwrought. Rather, his music and lyrics exhibit the polemics of human emotion and the extremism associated with vulnerability and change. As he makes clear in "Independence Day", "I just can't stop my mind / I can't concentrate / I saw right through your eyes / Oh honey, now that you've gone away / I'm a wreck." But the track's title suggests an acceptance of autonomy that's laborious though liberating. This proves that Baby Grand is more than unadulterated introspection. As reiterated by "Let Your Hair Down", the Love Language leans on the idiom to recentralize fun and emotional suturing despite one's dour disposition. Certainly, if the track's overt pop-danceability doesn't draw listeners in then the lyrics advocating for emotional abatement will: "brush off what's not under your skin / And never go back there again". It's always an important reminder to relinquish pain to keep progressing.

"Juiceboxx" is a joyful combination of synths, piano, and McLamb's falsetto. The piano's downbeat combined with the percussion gives the track a visceral quality that's hard to ignore. The track in itself is a throwback to the 2000s synth and falsetto focused indie rock in the manner of Passion Pit or Grizzly Bear. But for McLamb there is something more subversive about his vocal pitch. The falsetto and combination of emotive lyrics demonstrate McLamb's fluidity with the gender expectations of male singers. His falsetto echoes the sentimentalism while his vulnerability and strength are interchangeable.

None

None

Baby Grand is at times discombobulated as it moves from danceable energy to some tracks resembling dirges. For example, "Southern Doldrums'" slow tempo aurally represents the malaise but then the track features these bursts of energy that seem misaligned. Whereas the tempo shift is ear-catching, the track lacks a focal point. Likewise, the dissonance on "New Amsterdam" is catchy yet distracting in its emphasis on reverberation. McLamb repeats the lyrics "everything" and "come back" for more than 15 times adding a layer of chaos to an already evident musical pandemonium. Yet the final track "Glassy", gives the album a sense of arrival and peacefulness. The twangy vibes endow "Glassy" with a distinct sense of country-folk placidity. Each track on Baby Grand is so outlandishly different, they resemble individual art pieces rather than a systematic album.

The album's insufficient cohesion is indeed unnerving more often than not. However, it is arguable that this reflects McLamb's own sense of brokenness or the Love Language's attempt at illustrating his itinerant period. To his credit, McLamb outwardly rejects uniformity throughout Baby Grand thereby showcasing his creative ability. Thus, Baby Grand stands as a marker of his musical inventiveness.

Chris Ward:                If you have an accountant, that's your business partner. If you have an attorney to help represent you, that's your business partner. Think of your banker the same way, one of the three trusted business partners for you to be successful as a small business, because every small business owner wants to grow their business over time and wants to have a positive impact on the community. So how can your banker help you with that?

Narrator:                    Welcome to “The Heartbeat of Main Street” with ForbesBooks at forbesbooks.com and Bank of America at bankofamerica.com.

Gregg Stebben:         I'm here with Chris Ward, he’s the Small Business Credit Executive at Bank of America. We're going to talk about something, Chris, I know all small business owners think to themselves and always wonder who I can ask? Here's the question. When it comes to a bank like Bank of America making business loans, what is the bank looking for?

Chris Ward:                Good question Gregg. It's hard for small businesses, because there's not a lot of information out there to help them like there is on the consumer lending side. What are banks looking for? They're primarily looking for the five C’s of small business credit. What are those five C’s of small business credit?

It's about capacity, collateral, capital, conditions and character, and if I could throw in one more, it's also about communication, so let's just call it the six C’s of small business lending credit.

Gregg Stebben:         Okay. I'm game to call it the six C’s of small business credit. Let's take them one at a time. You said the first one is capacity. What do you mean by that?

Chris Ward:                Capacity really is about whether the revenues, the income that your business generates, is enough to cover your debts, so your business debts and also your personal debts. Because if you're a small business owner, your business is your personal income as well. So, it's about the cash flow that your business generates and is that cash flow getting better, is it getting worse, is it stable, is it unstable, is it volatile? It’s things like that we’re looking for to determine the capacity that a business has for handling its expenses and its liabilities.

Gregg Stebben:         Do you find that many people who are looking for a small business loan are surprised that their personal credit situation is also a factor?

Chris Ward:                A lot are. A lot don't realize that. But if you think about it, if you're a sole proprietor, it makes all the sense in the world, because on your tax returns on your personal side you're going to have your business. But when you're a Subchapter S or LLC, a lot of those businesses—because of the way they're structured—they have to pass through the retained earnings back to the personal side.

Because in a small business loan, as owners, you're going to be personally guaranteeing that loan, we have to look at both sides, both the business side and the personal side to see how you're managing your entire financial well-being.

Gregg Stebben:          Are there certain benchmarks or rules of thumb that I, as a small business owner, should be looking at to recognize whether I'm in a good situation to be going to a bank for a small business loan?

Chris Ward:                Yeah. There's a general rule of thumb, and it's really about the income divided by your total debt. We call it debt coverage ratio. In general, in the industry you're looking for about $1.25 to cover at least every dollar of liabilities out there. That way you have a little bit of buffer, a little bit of wiggle room, if you will, on your cash flow to manage your debt and provide some working capital for the business so it can keep on growing.   [GK4]

Gregg Stebben:          Then the next C of the six C’s of small business credit is capital, so talk about that.

Chris Ward:                Capital is really about your business assets, what the business owns, what the business has generated. Is it greater than the total liabilities the business has out there? Think of your business assets. Think of what the business owns. Think of inventory. Think of real estate. Think of retained earnings, the cash, the checking account balances. Is that more than what the business owes to others? So, whether that's an actual loan or maybe it's just your accounts payable, and does that capital also have enough to show how much you as a business owner have invested in that company that you own?

Gregg Stebben:         Which I think would tie into the next C, which is collateral.

Chris Ward:                Collateral, right. Capital helps to generate collateral, at least generate the means to grow your collateral. It's accounts receivable for a business. It's inventory. It's cash. It's equipment. It's real estate if the business actually owns its property instead of leases. It's an automobile that might be in the business name or a truck, depending on the type of business.

Gregg Stebben:         I'm talking with Chris Ward. He's the small business credit executive at Bank of America. We're talking about ... I think classically they're called the five C’s of small business credit. We've talked about capital, we've talked about capacity, we've talked about collateral. There's also a C, which is the fourth C, which is conditions. What does that refer to?

Chris Ward:                That's really about the economy and the type of industry that you are. A lot of industries could be very seasonal. You think of industries that rely upon tourism, very, very seasonal. So that means the cash flow, the revenues, could be somewhat volatile if we look at the entire year.

It also could be about the type of industry such as a gas station or a convenience store. You might be handling very dangerous liquids—obviously a gas station would—so there's legislation, there's regulations involved. So, it's really understanding not only the business itself, but also the type of business it is and how it impacts our local communities.

Gregg Stebben:         It's interesting, when you talk about something like seasonal industries, are you suggesting that there's a best time of year for me to be applying for a loan, or just that I am addressing it well when talking about the need for the loan or in the written materials I might submit to the bank?

Chris Ward:                It's more about addressing it well with your banker, making sure they understand the type of business you are, when your revenues come in if they don't come in as a straight line. And no business has revenues coming in in a straight line every month, month over month. You think about it, just the American economy. People spend a whole lot of money in the fourth quarter for the holidays and then they turn around and they have to pay all their bills in Q1, and the tax time comes, so that also relates to small businesses in general from my opinion.

Help your banker understand how your revenues come in, how your expenses go out, and how does time and the time of year impact how your business runs.

Gregg Stebben:         Chris, as I'm listening to you, I'm thinking that you're suggesting that I be prepared to answer the same questions a rich uncle would ask if I went to my rich uncle for a loan.

Chris Ward:                Yeah. Exactly.

Gregg Stebben:         Is that actually ... Could that be a good way to approach this? Just imagine that I'm making a case for a loan for my business to another person versus a bank? Because everything you've said so far is really common sense.

Chris Ward:                It is common sense, but you're dealing with your banker, and so how you have that relationship with your banker, how you build that partnership with your banker, is really important. Getting them to understand how your business runs, because every business is different. There's over 28 million small businesses in America today. They're all different. Some are businesses at home. Some are businesses with an actual storefront. Some are businesses where the owner is more of a consultant and traveling all the time.

So, help that the banker understand how your business runs, how it operates, how it generates cashflow, and what is the ultimate goal and purpose of your business.

Gregg Stebben:         Okay. Let's move on to the fifth C of the six C’s of small business credit. It's character. That's got to be a big one.

Chris Ward:                It is. It's probably one of the most important, if not the most important. It's all about you as a business owner and your history. It's tied so closely to the success of your business. It's actually critically important.

It's factors such as your personal integrity, your industry experience, your good-standing. It's about your credit history, both your personal and your business credit history, and the factors that impact your credit score, because there are small business credit scores out there as well as the credit bureau agencies.

Gregg Stebben:         And the sixth C you have said is communication, and I would think that that fits in with character as well. Talk about why that's so important.

Chris Ward:                Well, it's a little bit different, and here's how it's different. Communication is first you have a business plan. It's significant if you have a business plan where you've been, where you are today, and where you're going, and how are you going to continue the success of your business, and then can you communicate and share that business plan with your small business banker? Because your small business banker is your business partner in many, many senses. They're there to represent you with the bank and to cut through the red tape of banking, because banking is not easy nowadays.

It's gotten a lot better because of mobile technology and mobile banking or remote deposit capture and things like that, but it's still complicated, especially for a small business owner, because there are so many factors that impact you as a business owner. So that communication, that relationship, that give and take that you have with your small business banker to help you get the proper products, to make sure that you're lining up the right type of lending products to the needs that you have, that's what communication is all about.

Gregg Stebben:         Chris, I want to ask you two more questions. I'm talking with Chris Ward. He's the small business credit executive at Bank of America. I want to ask you two other questions. One is what is the best way for me to begin building a relationship with my local bankers now, so that when I'm ready to ask for a loan I'm not walking in for the first time, so that I know them and they know me?

Chris Ward:                That's a great question. So here's my suggestion. Where you have your business checking account today, get to know that bank, the bankers there that represent you at that local branch, and get to know their products and services. Then ask them questions about how to run your business better, how to have a better business banking relationship.

So think of things like merchant services. If you accept credit cards from your customers, are your merchant services to accept those credit cards with the bank that provides your checking account? Do you have a business credit card? Business credit cards are a very popular way of helping to finance small dollar expenses for a business. If you don't have a business credit card with your bank today, why not? Look into it.

Does the relationship you have with your bank reward you, so the more that you have at that bank, does it give you discounts and fee waivers? The larger the relationship with your bank, the better that you get from that bank, the better the relationship, but also the more that you know about that banker and how they can help you.

Gregg Stebben:         It sounds to me like I should really be thinking about the bankers in my local branch almost as consultants when it comes to managing the money of my business. There are ways they can help me that I might not know unless I made the effort to ask them.

Chris Ward:                I totally agree. I actually think they're your business partner. If you have an accountant, that's your business partner. If you have an attorney to help represent you, that's your business partner. Think of your banker the same way, one of the three trusted business partners for you to be successful as a small business, because every small business owner wants to grow their business over time and wants to have a positive impact on the community. So how can your banker help you with that?

If you have a banker that can help you with that, it's going to help your business. It's going to help make your life easier as a small business owner. So making sure that you have a banker who's competent and knowledgeable and dedicated to small businesses I think is super important.

Gregg Stebben:         The last thing I want to ask you, Chris ... Chris Ward, he's the Small Business credit executive at Bank of America. The last thing I want to ask you is this. I'm sure many people listening have never applied for a business loan before from a bank. What is that process like? Can you give us a brief overview?

Chris Ward:                Every bank is a little bit different. It's not as common and streamlined as it is in consumer lending, say as an auto loan. But a lot of banks are dedicating a lot of time, money and technology to improve in the small business credit application process.

So the first thing I would ask that you all do is that you go to the bank's website and see what their capabilities are and are not. For example, go check out Bank of America and compare it to the competition. Do they have an easy way to apply for credit? Do they have a learning section with really good general industry information that helps you understand how to establish and maintain your business credit?  How to apply for  business credit

Then does it also list out all the different types of small business credit products that are out there, from a small business credit card, to a real estate loan, to a business auto loan, up to an SBA, a Small Business Administration loan? Do they have those capabilities? That's a great place to go and to start the process, to educate yourself and making sure that you're dealing with a bank that is full-service and has industry experts to help you with your small business.

Gregg Stebben:         That's really great advice. I've been talking with Chris Ward. He's the small business credit executive at Bank of America. Chris, thanks so much for joining us.

Chris Ward:                Thank you.

Narrator:                     Thanks for listening to “The Heartbeat of Main Street” with ForbesBooks at forbesbooks.com and Bank of America at bankofamerica.com.

'Historian Lilian Calles Barger explores the legacy of liberation theology -- as a critique of Christianity under capitialism, a challenge to the conditions of inequality and oppression faced by poor and working class people, and as a resurgment movement with the power to propel social movements today and tomorrow. Lilian is author of The World Come of Age: An Intellectual History of Liberation Theology from Oxford University Press.'

Eprom & ZEKE BEATS Share Long Awaited Heavy-Bass Collab “Humanoid 2.0”      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

For over a year now we’ve been poked, prodded and teased with snippets of Eprom & ZEKE BEATS’ long awaited collab. While we’ve been very content keeping Eprom’s recent Drone Warfare EP on repeat and ZEKE BEATS Devastate EP on close standby, having heard this one played out by the likes of G Jones, Bleep Bloop, Space Jesus, (controversially by) ATLiens & more, today we’re beyond excited that the wait is finally over for “Humanoid 2.0”.

This latest offering from the heavy-bass duo was definitely worth the wait. Although according to ZEKE BEATS 2.0 was originally slated for release back in April, as it is more-or-less a followup to Eprom’s 2010 “Humanoid”, to say this was a long time coming would be an understatement. Filled with deep, pulsing bass, skittering percussion, eerie robotic vocals and wonky, extraterrestrial gargles, you’ll definitely be out of your seat as soon as you hit play on this one. And if 2.0 dropping wasn't hype enough already, the track seems to have come as a dual release with a new, never before heard track from the duo titled "Soundboy Funeral". Check out “Humanoid 2.0” below and enjoy!

Medasin Shines On Must Hear, Dreamy New 9-Track Album ‘Irene’      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Since first introduced to TSIS in early 2016, Dallas producer Medasin has quickly become one of the most sought-after producers in electronic music. His ability to re-imagine other artist’s work into a fresh idea is unparalleled; An ability that has landed him official remixes for the likes of DJ Khaled and Portugal. The Man. Aside from his numerous impressive remixes, Medasin has also displayed a talent for creating unique originals. Previous singles such as “Daydream” and “Forever”, his collaborative track with EKALI, showcase the rising producer’s unique vision.

Today is a big day for Medasin as he dropped his highly anticipated Irene album; His debut solo packaged offering (He released The Pink Polo EP in 2016 with Masego - absolutely worth the listen). This album is not the first appearance of the Irene project. In January, Medasin uploaded a half-an-hour mix to SoundCloud titled ‘Irene’. He took to twitter to announce the project and stated “…a lot of these tracks have vocals that are being worked on for the later more official project. I removed all of the vocals cause I wanted this to be solely Medasin instrumental experience.” Well, the ‘more official’ project is here in all of its’ glory, and it is everything we could have hope for…

Composed of nine tracks, Irene is dreamy and innovative. Two of the cuts received proper vocal features; “Work For You” with Kaz Moon and “Tired” with, the always reliable, Sophie Meiers. Built upon his buoyant sound with inviting synths and standout percussion, Irene is a testament of Medasin’s highly developed production capabilities and a foretell of his forthcoming success. Enjoy!
