BETTER CALL SOLBAKKEN!      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

The Solbakken Fuzzfestival is a bi-yearly event that takes place out on the South East coast of Norway. Set in an enclave of Arendal called Moltemyr, it’s a garden party set in a very well-appointed garden between two houses. An invite to this was an offer that I was not about to refuse and getting to that part of the world isn’t exactly a cakewalk but like the song conveys, have love, will travel.

It took a smidge over 12 hours door to door. Exactly a week ago from right about now I took a bus ride through picture postcard beautiful vistas that look like a cross between 'wir ain' highlands and the Pacific Northwest. The shimmer of the sun on the lakes as it went down just added to the twilight zone-ness. All you really need to know is that it is spectacular.

The crowd gather...
Having dropped by Risør a couple of years ago, Arendal further reminded me of the similarity between that region and the East Neuk of Fife. They don’t have a chip shop like they do in Anstruther but maybe I could go out there and open one?

Within a half hour of being there I was out on the town with Fuzzmistress Hilde. After some Indian food we hit up the hostelry she works in called Barrique. A very nice old wood varnished bar with at least one member of staff that will point blank refuse to serve you a mojito. I never take for granted the opportunity to take such jaunts and this was the only evening it would be possible to make that particular scene. And for Hilde to take time out of her busy schedule like this was above and beyond because she is the epicentre.

Revesound revving up
As straight talking a wee bisom that ever walked, this one can get stuff done. All the others that are involved with this are equally driven, It’s an abject case for labours of love always trouncing something that is entered for gain. Their gain was to see everyone have a great time as a result of their selfless planning. Getting a wee preview of the site the day before was a trip and just hanging out sampling Magne’s epic brews and the Solbakken hospitality really hit the spot.

The freak weather has been causing ructions out there too and there’s a BBQ ban in Norway right now. That wasn’t to deter them though and a number of broilers were installed to take up the slack. These folks had thought of everything and maybe even a little more.

Snok - Forward into 1971!
Saturday rolled around quick and it was time for the garden party. As the revellers arrived it was clear that a great community not just from the immediate locale had grown around the event. With a family element that never reduced it to the level of the fete. I met and talked to a ton of people that I wish I could remember their names. It's an age thing that's getting worse by the day.

It all kicked off with a kind of folky review by Revesound. I’d just watched A Mighty Wind a few days beforehand and the similarity wasn’t lost on me. It became apparent even then that the space had become a natural amphitheatre and in the main, the sound was excellent for an outdoor concert experience. At some points during the evening, a mighty wind would indeed attempt to blow the cover off the stage on several occasions. It was expertly tethered though.

A period of broiling and hanging out followed that before the remainder of the music was rolled out. Snok set a pretty high bar for a bunch of actual real life teenagers. Led by Hilde’s son Lars they managed to conjure up shades of Sabbath in 1971 when even their parents weren’t around. Decidedly not-lumpy doom rock, they just made their first recordings that I’m very much looking forward to hearing. Their set was all the more amazing because they had to get a substitute drummer that knew the ropes at stupidly short notice. That guy did good.

Gimme an H, Gimme a C, Gimme a G,
Gimme an L, Gimme an I!

What's that spell? REINE LAKEN!
As I mentioned in Vulcher zine lately, little in my existence gives me greater pleasure than watching and being around Reine Laken. This time out they’d enlisted a new member and it was Camilla’s public debut. It went great and by the time they got to their version of Bikini Kill’s "Rebel Girl", the gathering went under the thunder. "Blitzkrieg Bop" into "Dancing With Joey Ramone" was a very nice touch. All the anxiety that goes into these performances is very much appreciated by their fans. I was thinking about how all the Madrid folks would have loved this.

Wirkola workin' it!

Wirkola Hellraisers are a solid combo that underlines the hard rock seam that ran through the day’s line up. I'm really digging the fact that Nazareth were (are?) so big out there and the ‘raisers deliver a tasty “Kentucky Fried Blues”. I think that Dan McCafferty would approve. At the other end of the spectrum, their take on the Sweet ignites around a three guitar attack, one of whom is Erland Ottem who was in Clawfinger. Their "Ballad of The Lower East Side" wasn’t slouching none either.

DeMidlertidige
DeMidlertidige (sp?) played at the grungier end of the spectrum and during their set I was blethering. Someone told me that they were playing an Alice In Chains song at one point and I have to say that they rendered it listenable. Something I can’t say has ever happened with that actual band. This Stine girl can sing. I even heard a little Nico in there and of course Grace Slick on a faithful run through "White Rabbit".

Rangers raised the stakes for Dunfermline’s finest by including "Close Enough for Rock’n’Roll" and they also fired out trusty takes on "Cold Gin", "Godzilla" and "The American Ruse" during their set indicating a certain level of taste for those of us that recognise the fine line that runs through the vein of heavier music.

Camilla and Ingri rippin it up to the strains of Rangers!

The band's were all done and dusted by curfew time but the party went on a good deal longer. heading back there in the daytime, the festival elves had been out and cleaned up. It was all looking as though almost nothing had happened. Service above and beyond self all the way.

Anyhoo... Solbakken FuzzFestival is something the world could do with a little more of right about now. The best small but perfectly formed festival action I’ve had since the legendary House of Rock that went down in Moss in that fateful June of 2011. People talk about game changers but that was a life changer.

My sincere thanks to all those folks that made this happen and for them having me there. There might not have been any morild this time but there was some magic here and there so that’ll suffice for now but I’ll need another RL fix before too long so I hope they have something in the works.

The adventure came to a close with a few hours in Moss Rock City and pretty much before I knew it, I was back on the bus heading for where it seemed like I had just started out. To add to that injury, I tried to use some currency at the duty free shop that had expired. I’m not sure why the Scandinavians change their notes so often but it’s a pain in the arse. Just as well that everything I had left wasn’t hooky and the liquorice score could be made.

Through internediaries, the DNC/Hillary Campaign Fund commissioned and paid for the Russian Dossier. The reason it went through so many different channels is that the DNC/ Hillary Campaign did not want their role in this project exposed. For that same reason, it took a year and some digging to find out who funded this foreign opposition research. If you believe that "the facts" in the dossier "are true, and that the FBI already knew about them", stick with that fantasy as well. Steele himself has not gone that far, so step in and make that claim for him.

Astronomy on KDE      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

I recently switched to KDE and Plasma as my main desktop environment, so I thought I'd start digging into some of the scientific software available on KDE. First up is KStars, the desktop astronomy program.

KStars probably won't be installed with the standard KDE desktop, so you may need to install it. If you're using a Debian-based distribution, you can install KStars with the following command:

sudo apt-get install kstars

When you first start it, KStars asks for your current location, and then it gives you the option of installing several extra information files to add to the list of objects that KStars knows about and can display. Once those steps are finished, KStars begins with the current sky at the location you entered earlier.

Figure 1. On startup, KStars shows you the current layout of the sky in your location.

So, what can you do with KStars? If you've used programs like Stellarium before, you'll find that you can do the same types of tasks with KStars. You can use your mouse to click and drag the display to change the direction you're facing. The cardinal directions are labeled along the outside of the circle of the sky, and you can zoom in and out to change the field of view. If you see an object you want to examine further, you can double-click it to center it on the display and tag it as the current object of interest.

Depending on what catalogs of data you installed, some of the objects may have more or less information available. For example, selecting the planet Uranus and zooming all the way in shows a reasonably detailed image of the planet, including the ring orientation.

Figure 2. You can easily select and zoom in to objects of interest in KStars.

Quite a few options are available for controlling what's shown in the main window. The toolbar across the top of the window allows you to toggle the following items: stars, deep sky objects, solar system objects, supernovae, satellites, constellation lines, constellation names, constellation art, constellation boundaries, Milky Way, equatorial coordinate grid, horizontal coordinate grid and opaque ground. This allows you to customize the display so that it shows only what you're interested in at the time. The last display option is to toggle the "What's Interesting" pane.

18 Ways Meghan Markle Is So Much Like Princess Diana      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Post by Michele Zipp.

No two princesses are alike -- despite their royal duties and access to bonafide crowns (what a stroke of luck!). With this, it's also clear that the late Princess Diana and Meghan Markle are very different, too. However, there are some fascinating similarities that are revealed once digging deeper into their personal interests as well as their upbringing, and life and style choices.

Diana and Meghan's common denominator isn't just Prince Harry. And they aren't the same just because of the fact that Meghan would win over Diana if she was alive today. Yes, Meghan seems to be following in Diana's footsteps, however it is also clear this is just who Meghan is. And part of what makes Meghan, Meghan, is very much like what made Diana the person that she was as well.

Discoloration of clear cases over time is a common consumer pain point and to solve this issue Speck developed an innovative material that protects against not only the sun's UV rays, but also lotions, makeup and other oils that traditionally discolor clear cases. The inner layer of the case is made of IMPACTIUM™ Clear, a proprietary shock-absorbing material that helps protects the device against drops of up to 8 feet. </p>
<p>Speck's line of slim and protective cases includes a variety of styles and functions to meet the needs of Note9 power users. All Speck cases feature a raised bezel to protect the large Note9 screen during a drop and when placed screen-side down. Presidio cases are equipped with its trademark IMPACTIUM Shock Barrier, a band of ridges that lines the inside perimeter of the case, co-molded with the polycarbonate shell. When dropped, the ridges compress on impact to absorb and disperse shock.</p><th class="expander" style="Margin:0;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0;padding:0!important;text-align:left;visibility:hidden;width:0"></th></tr></table></th></tr></tbody></table><table class="row content" style="background:#fff;border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;display:table;padding:0;position:relative;text-align:left;vertical-align:top;width:100%"><tbody><tr style="padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top"><th class="small-12 large-12 columns first last" style="Margin:0 auto;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0 auto;padding:0;padding-bottom:16px;padding-left:30px;padding-right:30px;text-align:left;width:570px"><table style="border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top;width:100%"><tr style="padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top"><th style="Margin:0;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0;padding:0;text-align:left"><center data-parsed="" style="min-width:510px;width:100%"><img src="https://mma.prnewswire.com/media/728928/Speck_SA_10119_Note9_Family.jpg#source%3Dgooglier%2Ecom#https%3A%2F%2Fgooglier%2Ecom%2Fpage%2F%2F10000" alt="" align="center" class="float-center" style="-ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic;Margin:0 auto;clear:both;display:block;float:none;margin:0 auto;max-width:100%;outline:0;text-align:center;text-decoration:none;width:auto"></center></th><th class="expander" style="Margin:0;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0;padding:0!important;text-align:left;visibility:hidden;width:0"></th></tr></table></th></tr></tbody></table><table class="row content" style="background:#fff;border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;display:table;padding:0;position:relative;text-align:left;vertical-align:top;width:100%"><tbody><tr style="padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top"><th class="small-12 large-12 columns first last" style="Margin:0 auto;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0 auto;padding:0;padding-bottom:16px;padding-left:30px;padding-right:30px;text-align:left;width:570px"><table style="border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:0;padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top;width:100%"><tr style="padding:0;text-align:left;vertical-align:top"><th style="Margin:0;color:#0a0a0a;font-family:Montserrat,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.3;margin:0;padding:0;text-align:left">

Jeg synes det er gøy å lage sunne ting som også er DIGGE ting!

Denne sjokoladegranolaen for eksempel. Helt supergod, søt og "crunchy", og full av sunne ingredienser!

Lett å lage, og kan gjerne lages vegansk og/eller sukkerfritt hvis du ønsker det.

Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm0GGDsw2OU&t=2s" rel="nofollow">Drill a hole in cast iron</a> lot of times it's hard to get that "perfect balance" between usability and appearance. I must say you've done a awesome job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super quick for me on Firefox. Superb Blog!

  • Astronomy on KDE

I recently switched to KDE and Plasma as my main desktop environment, so I thought I'd start digging into some of the scientific software available on KDE. First up is KStars, the desktop astronomy program.

  • LabPlot's MQTT in the finish line

Hello everyone. GSoC is coming to its end, so I think that I should give a report about what's been done since the last post, and also make a brief evaluation, summary of the project itself.

As I've written in my last post, the main focus was on improving the quality of the code, cleaning, optimizing and properly documenting it. And also making it more comestible for other developers.

The next step was searching for bugs and then fixing them. In order to do this properly, I implemented a unit test for the main MQTT related features. This proved to be useful since it helped discover several hidden bugs and errors which were all corrected. The main features, that tests were developed for, are: checking if a topic contains another one, checking if two topics are "common topics" (meaning they only differ at only one level, and are the same size), managing messages, subscribing&unsubscribing.

  • PSA: Use SASL in konversation

You probably have seen that Freenode has been getting lots of spam lately.

To protect against that some channels have activated a flag that only allows authenticated users to enter the channel.

If you're using the regular "nickserv" authentication way as I was doing, the authentication happens in parallel to entering the channels and you'll probably be rejected from joining some.

A Town Named Asbestos Once Produced Most of the World's Asbestos Supply      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Hidden in old buildings and under streets, asbestos—once thought of as a “miracle mineral”—is always lurking. Though today it might seem like a relic of the past, under new rules from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. government could approve new uses of asbestos in consumer products going forward, reports Fast Company.

There are still places where asbestos mining is a notable industry: Canada’s asbestos mines—including the mine at Asbestos, Quebec, once the largest in the world—only closed within the last 10 years, and in Russia, the town of Asbest is still a major center of asbestos production.

article-image

Asbestos has many strange properties and has been incorporated into manmade products going back thousands of years. Manufactured, it often comes into human environments as a textile or a dangerous powder, but in nature it appears as six different types of natural silicates. Part of what makes it uniquely useful is how its crystals form, into tiny, thin fibers. It can be woven into fabric, it’s resistant to fire, it dampens sound.

Modern asbestos mining started in the 19th century, and Canada became one of the leading producers of asbestos early on. In the 1850s, significant deposits of chrysotile, the most commonly used form of asbestos, were found in Thetford, Quebec, south of Quebec City. By the end of the 19th century, the Jeffrey Mine, about 50 miles southwest, had also become a major source of asbestos, and when workers settled near the mine, they called their town Asbestos.

article-image

At the height of asbestos mining, around the 1970s, there were dozens of asbestos mines in the U.S., but about half of the asbestos used around the world was coming from this one mine in Canada. Usually, asbestos mining required several long and linear mines, but because of a rare circular pattern in this deposit, the miners could simply create a pit mine and start digging out the mineral. Over time, as the pit expanded, the workers had to move their town to keep it away from the expanding circumference of the mine.

article-image

Of course, there were problems with asbestos mining. By the middle of the 20th century, the health effects of breathing in asbestos fibers, which can cause cancer, were becoming well known. Environmental agencies starting controlling its use more tightly, and workers sickened by their jobs started demanding compensation and greater protections. Still, the mines themselves were slow to close, as there was still demand in India and other parts of the world for the product. The last asbestos mine in the U.S. closed in 2002; Canada shut down its asbestos mines in 2012.

Today, the town of Asbestos, Quebec, is still tied to its mineral legacy. A local brewery has named its beers Mineur (Miner); Spello, a mining term, and L’Or Blanc—white gold, as asbestos was known. The brewery also made a pale ale with water drawn from the bottom of the mine. They tested the water, one brewer told the BBC, and it was “perfect.” There’s also an Asbestos Mineral Museum, and it’s possible to tour the old mine or see it from a platform at the museum.

In Asbest, Russia, though, mining is ongoing. “When I work in the garden, I notice asbestos dust on my raspberries,” one resident told the New York Times in 2013. Regulators there consider it safe when properly handled, they told the Times. Most of the asbestos used in the U.S. in recent years has come from Brazil, but now those mines are shutting, too. Russia could become an asbestos supplier to the U.S., and the people of Asbest are looking forward to it. In the U.S., asbestos is still used in roofing materials and floor tiles, for fire protections, and in other consumer products. It's a small market and, even under the new rules, unlikely to grow fast. But when your town is named for a toxic substance that many people are afraid to be around at all, you look for business anywhere you can.

Is this really the best way to promote classical music?      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Recently Jessica Duchen wrote a nice piece praising the new classical venue of Saffon Hall in Essex, England. Jessica quite rightly praised its "warm and blooming, ample and resonant" acoustic and described the venue as "a national treasure of a concert hall". She went on to explain that music is thriving at the high school Saffron Hall is attached to, saying "This should be a model for anyone to follow".

I couldn't agree more, and it is worth digging deeper into that model. Saffron Hall was built with the help of what is believed to be the largest private direct donation to a British state school: a gift of over £10 million from an anonymous local donor channeled through a local charitable trust. We have to accept that with traditional funding sources drying up, such philanthropy will become essential to the future health of classical music. However, a Guardian report on Saffron Hall quotes an authority on philanthropic funding as saying "Philanthropy has a vital role to play in education, but is much less common in Britain than the United States".

Classical music faces massive funding pressures and must turn to new sources including charitable donations to stay alive. There is immense competition for funding from these new sources, and this is coupled with increasing ethical awareness. Which prompts me to question the image projected by Slipped Disc, the go-to "inside track on classical music" and the music industry's communication platform of choice. Of course shit happens in the real world, and that shit needs to be reported. But I suggest that anyone with £10 million to donate or a child wanting a career in the arts would look elsewhere after perusing Slipped Disc. A clickbaiting cocktail of scandal and gossip punctuated by extremist comments and plugs for Universal Classics may be the best way to maximise page hits and advertising revenue. But is it really the best way to promote classical music?

Is It Really That Bad to Eat Carbs at Night? Here's What 2 Dietitians Have to Say      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Navigating the world of weight loss advice is no freaking joke. Everywhere you look, there is someone trying to sell you on the latest wrap, pill, diet fad, or shake. So, you might want to start with easy, widespread advice you've heard through the years: drink lots of water, get cardio at least a few times a week, and don't eat carbs at night, right? Right? After talking to a few registered dieticians, we're not so sure.

It's Totally OK to Eat at Night

Before getting into the carbs or no carbs discussion, you might want to know if eating anything at night could hinder weight loss or management. "I don't see eating at night as posing a challenge for weight management," said Tracey Grant, RDN, CWHC, of Whole Daily Life."A well-composed evening snack won't affect your progress any differently in the evening than it would elsewhere in your day."

Anna Hartman, RDN, of Food Smarts Nutrition, agreed. "For the vast majority of people, the time on the clock when we eat doesn't have a huge impact on how we digest and utilize nutrients, or how our bodies regulate weight." There are certain groups of people, namely competitive bodybuilders and professional athletes, whose performance-related goals can benefit from nutrient timing, but us normal people are going to see a bigger impact from the type of foods we eat than the timing of our meals and snacks.

Dinner or Late Snack Carbs Are Fine, Too, but There's a Catch

Should you stay away from carbs at night if you do choose to indulge in a post-dinner snack? Grant recommended a balance, including carbs, protein, and fat. "By including some of each macronutrient, you will have a more balanced blood sugar response (as opposed to a blood sugar spike), which translates to more effective use of that energy and better sleep. A blood sugar spike tells the body to store energy (which could end up being stored as fat if not used) to help bring blood sugar down, and these spikes can also contribute to internal inflammation."

Both experts advised that eating whole, minimally-processed foods, as opposed to refined foods like crackers, cookies, and candy, is the way to go. When we choose foods that are minimally processed and higher in fiber like fruits, veggies, whole grains (pro tip: whole grains have actually been shown to promote a good night's sleep), and legumes, the food is digested and absorbed more slowly - and we get more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

"Our bodies do utilize carbohydrates more efficiently when we are more active (i.e., not when we are preparing for sleep). Knowing this, a large influx of carbs late at night, right before sleep, may not be used as efficiently as a high-carb meal consumed earlier in the day when we are active (after exercise, for example)," Hartman said. A better choice would be a low- to moderate-carbohydrate meal or snack made up of high-quality, nutrient dense foods.

You'll Want Your Meal to Be Balanced

Some of Grant's favorite evening snacks include "a small banana with a handful of nuts, a hard-boiled egg and a handful of berries, half of a sweet potato with cinnamon and nut butter, or a mug of bone broth blended with ghee and collagen."

Hartman's suggestions include the following:

  • 1/2 a 100 percent whole wheat pita pocket with two tablespoons of hummus and a few baby carrots
  • Slice of whole grain toast with one tablespoon of peanut butter
  • Small sliced apple and 1/4 cup almonds
  • 4 oz. of vanilla Greek yogurt topped with 1/4 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese, quark, or skyr with a sliced fresh peach
  • 1/2 cup protein-fortified, plant-based milk with 2/3 cup whole-grain cereal
  • 1/2 turkey sandwich on toasted whole-grain bread with 1/4 avocado

"If you find yourself snacking at night out of boredom, stress, or anything other than hunger, that is an opportunity for change. This nighttime grazing can add up to a lot of extra food intake over time, which can negatively impact blood sugar and hormone levels, and can contribute to unexpected shifts in body weight," Hartman said. If you truly are hungry, "Find a snack that is both enjoyable and nourishing. Pay attention to how various foods make you feel when you choose to eat them at night. Notice which ones are satisfying you, which ones settle well in your stomach, and which ones promote a good night's sleep," she added.

WeWork is getting a lot bigger, but so are its losses      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

WeWork saw its revenue, losses and membership grow substantially in the second quarter of 2018, according to an investor presentation provided by the company. It also disclosed that it has struck a large new investment agreement with SoftBank.

Bottom line: The co-working company continues to move toward a 2019 IPO.

Financials

Revenue: Q2 revenue was $422 million, of which $368 million came via membership fees, versus $342 million in Q1 revenue and $198 million in Q2 2017 revenue.

Losses: Net loss was $723 million for the first half of 2018, versus $154 million in the first half of 2017. Adjusted EBITDA was negative $141 million, versus $63 million for the first half of 2017.

  • The big drivers included increased expenses for sales and marketing, market expansion and asset depreciation.

Unit economics: WeWork created a novel metric called "community-adjusted EBITDA," which more than doubled year-over-year to $107 million.

Data: WeWork; Chart: Andrew Witherspoon/Axios

Membership

Total memberships more than doubled in the past year, now coming in at 268,000.

  • That's a 22% increase between the end of March and the end of June, which is an acceleration from a 18% growth rate for the prior quarter.
  • Around 25% of WeWork members are now enterprise customers for companies like Amazon, General Electric, J.P. Morgan and Pepsi. This matters because enterprise clients have lower churn than traditional ones.
  • Total occupancy climbed quarter-over-quarter from 82% to 84%. That latter figure includes 81% for new locations and 90% for "mature" locations that have been open for at least 18 months.

WeWork added 53 locations in Q2, and now has 287 locations in 77 cities in 23 countries.

Deals

WeWork has signed a complex investment agreement with existing investor SoftBank.

  • SoftBank, by the end of August, will lead at least $1 billion in convertible preferred financing, which is subordinated to the bonds WeWork sold earlier this year. It comes with PIK interest of 2.8%, which won't kick in until after the first year.
  • WeWork also may raise at least another $1 billion through an associated deal in which SoftBank would participate, but not lead. That transaction, if it happens, comes with a minimum conversion valuation of $42 billion (unless there is an IPO).
  • The company acquired two general contracting firms as well, one in New York and one in London.

Balance Sheet

WeWork had $1.9 billion of cash on hand through the end of June, which is down from the $2.2 billion it had at the time of its bond offering.

  • Neither of those figures include around $600 million committed, but not yet wired, by SoftBank from an earlier transaction.
  • They also don't include $500 million raised in July for WeWork China, nor the new convertible note financing.

Seven Days has put another bunch of white men on its cover because, really, it can't help itself. This racism prevails into its reporting. Exhibit A:

Jickling (most likely a friend of York) says (above) with a set of unique reporting skills:
Delaney, who was trained as a mason, contended that he's the right man for the job because of his work advocating for Abenaki rights on the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs.

What's actually true:
https://vtdigger.org/2018/07/23/charles-delaney-vital-role-assistant-judges/
www.about.me/delaney4assistantjudge

Delaney says:
My role as assistant judge started in 2010. I am also the former state chair of the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs and helped to negotiate the criteria for state tribal recognition and other bills that are law today. Knowing how government works is essential. This knowledge was especially critical when state judiciary restructuring sought to eliminate county government in 2010. However, the fundamentals of checks and balances prevailed.Weve administered county taxes close to .5 percent for the last eight years. Currently, all counties lose fees and ability to commission notaries. Chittenden County has offset this lack of income by lease of vehicle spaces after-hours.

We have introduced a programmed business called Working Fields, which provides counseling and employment to those recovering from addictions. Working Fields has provided support for many in our communities including felons in recovery. We also support the use of mediation services which allows people more control over outcomes. Assistant judges are nationally certified in Chittenden County. What we do is essential for the citizens we serve.

We started the day with a devotional theme of “Different God” and read verses in Exodus 3 where God reveals himself to Moses as “I AM”.  Knowing that God is with us is certainly encouraging and empowering!  What an excellent way to focus our minds and set our hearts before going out to serve. We went to Lipscomb Elementary to help them make preparations for the school year – which starts on August 5th!!!!  It’s been nice working with another team from Arlington Heights this week – friends make work more fun!  We worked outside in the Tennessee heat, weeding, chopping down bushes and cleaning up around the school yard to help make the grounds look nice.  Everyone gave it their best and it was rewarding to have a strong finish to our week of serving! It was extra sweet to cool down with frosty treats from Sonic after a long, hot day of work 🙂 During the evening session, we thought about which people in our lives encourage us and who we encourage – it’s important to be intentional about cultivating encouraging relationships in our lives.   It’s clear that the kids are growing in their understanding of and relationship with God and I pray it will translate into all of their other relationships.  I am excited to see how these 5 kids will impact our student ministry upon their return home! Tomorrow we’ll have some more devotional and teaching time around the “Live Differently” theme and spend time digging into specific ways to bring what we’ve learned back home and put it into practice. …

Fuck Off, Helen      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Needing a good laugh, last weekend I re-watched 2011's Bridesmaids. It's funny what you notice, or maybe what you remember noticing, when you watch a movie a second time. When I sat down to watch, I looked forward to the food poisoning scene at the Bridal shop, and all of Melissa McCarthy's scenes. This time, McCarthy's scenes didn't seem as funny as I had remembered, but I still got plenty of laughs.

First off, this is Kristen Wigg's movie. She steals every scene from start to finish. Her scenes with Rose Byrne are especially great, and the drive by car scene near the end provided the belly laughs I was looking for. I really hadn't remembered that scene, but it was the highlight this time around. It's surprising there hasn't been a sequel. Wiig thinks sequels are risky, and often tarnish the original. Although I agree with her, with this cast, I think it's worth the risk.

After the car scene, my biggest laugh came from Matt Bennett and his delivery of the line 'Fuck off, Helen.' Billed only as 'Helen's stepson', Bennett steals the far to few scenes he's in. Although he looks about 16, the New York based actor was actually 20 during production of the film.

With an investment of 200 million pesos, this Wednesday begins work to install the first barrier in Punta Nizuc, in Cancun, which aims to divert the sargassum into the sea and redirect it with the help of wind and natural marine currents. The objective is to avoid massive coverage of the coastline, and generate greater environmental and economic impacts to the Mexican Caribbean. As before, the sargassum that remains on the shore of the beaches will be manually removed and deposited in places of final disposal. The sargasso will be removed with seven structures that the government of Quintana Roo hired from the Goimar Goimsa Group, and the collection will be carried out through amphibious bands or suction bands, explained to El Universal the titutal of the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment of Quintana Roo (Semaqroo), Alfredo Arellano Guillermo. The first fence will serve as a pilot, the other remaining will be placed later in Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Mahahual and Puerto Morelos. Yesterday, during the private meeting that members of the state cabinet held with hoteliers, and in a second open meeting with social sectors, academics and organized civil society, the project to contain sargassum was announced. They explained that the problem is not going to be solved, because it depends on the currents and the winds, but it can reduce the amount (of sargassum) that reaches the beach. They are plastic barriers, canvas, buoys to float, with a width to the bottom of 50 centimeters, to retain the sargasso & quot ;. Also, the owner of Ecology and Environment clarified that "the type of mesh does not threaten the fauna, which can go under it, without any problem. & Quot; For his part, the coordinator of advisers to the state government, Felipe Ornelas said that the work of collecting on land will be maintained along with the diversion of algae in the sea, to avoid burying sargassum on beaches, under the own sand, otherwise, there would be significant environmental impacts on the ecosystem, for example, it would change the color of the beach, its composition and quality.

We recently reported on the unusual amounts of seaweed or pelagic Sargassum that are washing ashore on beaches throughout the Mexican Caribbean. This is not confined to the state of Quintana Roo, the Caribbean islands and the Gulf coast of the United States, from Texas to Florida, are reporting similar experiences. While it is natural for seaweed to come ashore after storms and for warmer water temperatures in the summer to cause it to breed more quickly (a phenomenon known as a bloom), such large quantities of seaweed are rare.

What is pelagic Sargassum?
Two species of pelagic Sargassum are washing ashore, they are also known as Common Gulfweed (Sargassum natans) and Broad-toothed Gulfweed (Sargassum fluitans). Sargassum comes from the Portuguese word sargaço, which means “little grapes,” a reference to the air-filled bladders that enables it to float on the surface and move with the currents. Unlike other algae that are rooted in the seabed or attached to rocks or corals, it can grow and reproduce as it drifts through the water. And when fragments break off the main plant, they can also reproduce, contributing to the formation of carpets of seaweed.
Pelagic Sargassum is associated with the Sargasso Sea in the Atlantic Ocean where vast beds of this free-floating seaweed are a habitat for many creatures such as microscopic plants, shells, shrimp, tiny crabs, sea horses and eels and are a nursery for four species of baby turtles and fish, including jacks, tuna and mahi-mahi. In fact, 120 species of fish and more than 120 invertebrates make their home among the plants. Migrating schools of fish also use the dense mats of weed as a refuge from predators such as sailfish and marlin, and seabirds and shore birds feed on the seaweed’s bounty.
Ocean currents such as the Gulf Stream, the North Atlantic Current and the North Equatorial Current transport Sargassum and it is found naturally in the northern Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Yet mats and lines of it are now being seen in areas where it has not been reported before or is very rare, and blooms have been reported in areas of the Atlantic not directly associated with the Sargasso Sea, such as the coast of South America. There may be multiple sources for the seaweed proliferation currently affecting the Caribbean and it may come ashore in different locations at different times during the year.

Where does the seaweed affecting the Mexican Caribbean come from?
To date, the origin of the Sargassum coming ashore on the coast of Quintana Roo and other parts of the Caribbean is unknown, however, marine biologist Rosa Rodriguez Martinez of the National Autonomous University of Mexico Marine Research Field Station in Puerto Morelos told us about one possible theory. It may come from as far afield as the coast of Brazil, thousands of kilometers to the south.
This was the source area for a massive island of seaweed spotted in April 2011 to the north of the Amazon estuary in Brazil where it had never been seen before. By July the same year it had dispersed into smaller patches and tons of it were washing up on beaches in the Eastern Caribbean from Trinidad to the Dominican Republic, where it became known as “the golden tide.” Ocean currents had even taken it across the Atlantic to West Africa, where it affected a stretch of coastline from Sierra Leone to Ghana.
Deforestation continues unchecked in the Amazon Basin and northern Brazil and without tree roots to anchor them tropical soils are easily eroded. It is thought that higher than average rainfall levels in 2010 and 2011 washed greater amounts of soil, organic waste, fertilizers and other chemicals into the sea. This influx of nutrients, which could also have been supplemented by nutrients from upwellings of colder water at sea and dust from the Sahara, may have provided optimum conditions for the alga to thrive.

Why is there so much seaweed at caribbean beaches
Theories abound on what is causing the seaweed to bloom in such huge quantities
Rising water temperatures due to climate change and excessive nutrients from nitrate fertilizers, pesticides and waste that find their way into the ocean are thought to be important factors. The water temperatures in the Caribbean are warmer this year and traces of chemicals can affect the balance of the marine ecosystem in many ways.
Other theories are that the appearance of drifting mats of Sargassum may be due to changes in wind patterns linked to El Niño that affect the ocean currents that circle the Sargasso Sea or that it is an environmental impact that can be traced to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico or to oil exploration. Other scientists attribute it to the use of certain types of pesticides in southern US, Colombia and Brazil that find their way into rivers and then into the sea.
Different factors may have come into play in different areas affected by Sargassum. Marine biologists do not know yet whether this is a rare event and or whether it will prove to be cyclical.

When seaweed comes ashore
Seaweed has always washed ashore on the Quintana Roo coast; it is a natural occurrence. The fact that this season it is doing so in much larger quantities does not mean that the beaches of the Mexican Caribbean are dirty or polluted. In fact, Cancun was recently awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for six of its beaches, an international standard of excellence for beach cleanliness and many other area beaches in in the process of applying for Blue Flag certification.
When Sargassum is beached, marine creatures that are trapped die and begin to decay; this is what causes the distinctive, short-lived fishy odor, not the seaweed itself.
Although seaweed is completely harmless and does not sting, it is a good idea to shower after swimming in the sea and wash your swimsuit. Sometimes microscopic creatures called hydrozoa, tiny jellyfish or sand flies are trapped in the weed and a few of them may occasionally cause a rash, by rinsing thoroughly you will be eradicating them.

What’s being done?
Beach cleaning is being carried out on a daily basis in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and other resort areas such as Akumal, Tulum and Mahahual. In the third week of July, the Federal Government authorized additional funds for Municipal governments to hire more people to clean the beaches and conservation groups, soldiers and people from all walks of life are also volunteering to help remove the seaweed that washes ashore.
As it is sea turtle season, most cleaning is done manually and there are restrictions on heavy machinery such as bulldozers that could damage nests and their precious eggs. In Cancun, the authorities have given permission for lightweight diggers to be used during the day and only on the sand that is closest to the waves. The methods used will be carefully controlled to prevent damage to the beaches.
Reconnaissance flights and boat patrols will keep track of patches of seaweed as they move north through the Yucatan Channel, identifying those that could make landfall.
All along the coast, turtle guardians are keeping an eye on adult turtles coming ashore to nest on beaches where there may be seaweed and will watch over the hatchlings as they are born later in the season to ensure that they do not become entangled in it.
The local authorities, hotel associations and Mexican environmental agencies SEMARNAT and CONANP are working with local biologists, and experts from the Universidad Autónoma de México on a statewide cleaning and disposal plan for the seaweed.
Once the salt has leached out of seaweed it can be composted and it makes an excellent fertilizer. In Puerto Morelos, some of the seaweed removed from the beaches is already being deposited in an old quarry and it could eventually be used in the parks and gardens.
In other areas of the Mexican Caribbean, although not in Cancun, the seaweed is being buried in the dunes and the soil formed will boost plant growth. Seaweed anchors the sand and helps protect the shoreline from erosion. When seaweed is left to decompose naturally on the sand, it actually contributes to the growth of the beach.
Sargassum is consumed in other parts of the world or given to farm animals as part of a dietary supplement and it is believed to have healing properties. These uses may also be studied as part of the disposal program.

Satellite tracking
Government and tourism officials and local institutions are now in contact with experts from Texas A & M University who are working with NASA to use satellite imagery to track the floating patches of seaweed as they are move through the Caribbean, the Yucatan Channel and the Gulf of Mexico. With more information they can forecast when larger patches of seaweed are approaching the coast and can plan accordingly. This project also monitors the Sargasso situation in the Caribbean islands, from Grenada and Barbados to Puerto Rico.
In another initiative, the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory at the University of Southern Mississippi is collecting reports from all over the Caribbean. Using the information they receive from different parts of the Caribbean, the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, satellite imagery and the movements of marine currents they can identify Sargassum source areas, track the floating seaweed and try to understand why it is reproducing so quickly.

Beach cleaning at Royal Resorts
At Royal Resorts beach cleaning brigades are out every morning. The fact that they work before the hottest part of the day means that you may not see them but they are doing their utmost to keep the sand looking beautiful.
We will give you further updates on the seaweed and the beach cleaning program as more information becomes available.

A Politician Walks Into King Taco ... A Look At The Political Term 'Hispandering'      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Hillary Clinton got side-eyed after blasting Jennifer Lopez's "Let's Get Loud" at a campaign stop in San Antonio where she called herself "La Hillary" and "Tu Hillary." Jeb Bush earned eye rolls after debuting a Spanish-language ad celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Both were accused of "Hispandering": a mashup of "Hispanic" and "pandering" that means faking interest in Hispanic issues and culture for self-serving reasons. So, what counts as Hispandering, and what doesn't? Who decides? Since Latinos are the largest minority group in the U.S., and, as you may have heard, Hispanic voters have the numbers to move the needle in next year's election, we're digging into the history and evolution of a term we'll probably be hearing again. It goes back to at least 2002, when pioneering political blogger Mickey Kaus, writing at his Slate blog Kausfiles, noted a "recent Hispandering proposal" from then-House Democratic Minority Leader Dick Gephardt to legalize some immigrants who are in the U.S. without

https://youtu.be/7yTxMOSjegY Franco Battiato Cover Rolling Stones Francesco "Franco" Battiato (Italian: [ˈfraŋko batˈtjaːto]; born 23 March 1945, Ionia, Sicily)[1][citation needed] is an Italian singer-songwriter, composer, filmmaker and, under the pseudonym Süphan Barzani, also a painter.[2] Battiato's songs contain esoteric, philosophical and religious themes. He is and has been for decades one of the most popular pop singer-songwriters in Italy. His unique sound, song-crafting and especially his lyrics, often containing philosophical, religious, and culturally exotic references, as well as tackling or painting universal themes about the human condition - unusual subjects for pop songs - earned him a unique spot on Italy's music scene, and the nickname of "Il Maestro" ("The Master" or "The Teacher"). His work includes songwriting and joint production efforts with several Italian and international musicians and pop singers, including the long-lasting professional relationship with Italian singer Alice. Together with Alice, Franco Battiato represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 1984 with the song "I treni di Tozeur".[3] "..Don't question why she needs to be so free Shell tell you it's the only way to be She just can't be chained To a life where nothings gained And nothings lost At such a cost There's no time to lose, I heard her say Catch your dreams before they slip away Dying all the time Lose your dreams And you will lose your mind. Aint life unkind? Goodbye, ruby tuesday Who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day Still I'm gonna miss you..." Songwriters: Keith Richards, Mick Jagger

I am sure that all those who closely follow Maltese politics will agree with me that we are at present living in what can only be described as an almost surreal situation. We are witnessing the Nationalist Party in self-destruct mode. The PN leader, Adrian Delia, has been totally humiliated by the Simon Busuttil faction within and outside the party. However, the survival of Busuttil within the PN will only serve to continue digging the political grave of the Nationalists. Indeed, one has to be almost masochistic to continue giving a voice within the PN to a person who has led the party to a humiliating electoral defeat in 2017 and who in 2018 has had his political reputation shot to smithereens by the result of the Egrant magisterial inquiry. The totally shambolic situation within the PN has continued to strengthen Labour. Joseph Muscat is at the pinnacle of his political career and the Labour Party is probably in the strongest position it has ever been in since the far-off days of Paul Boffa in 1947. Labour supporters are having a field day taunting PN supporters about the Egrant fallout. However, it is high time that we moved on and, therefore, start concentrating on the...

70 percent of recruiters check candidates’ social media      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
#source%3Dgooglier%2Ecom#https%3A%2F%2Fgooglier%2Ecom%2Fpage%2F%2F10000

Looking for a job? Then beware of what you post on social media. 70 percent of recruiters do check applicants’ social media profiles, according to a survey with over 1,000 hiring managers and HR professionals across the US. Among the recruiters who do social media digging to find out more about candidates, 57 percent have at least once found content which caused them not to hire someone. The survey was conducted by human capital management firm CareerBuilder.

In addition to social media, many recruiters rely on search engines to research about applicants: 66 percent of surveyors said they always Google the candidates’ names before inviting them for an interview. What are they looking for? First and foremost, they aim to fact check your CV. 58 percent of respondents said they use search engines and/or social media to look for information that supports the candidate’s qualifications for the job.

Verifying if applicants have a professional-looking online presence is also important for the surveyed recruiters: 50 percent of them said they do so. Some of them even go as far as checking what other people say about the candidate (34 percent), while 22 percent are downright looking for a reason not to hire the person.

What not to post on social media if you’re looking for a job

A sensual picture may grant you a lot of likes on social media, but it definitely will not resonate with HR professionals. 40 percent of surveyors said they have given up on hiring a candidate because of their provocative or inappropriate photographs. Be careful with those partying pictures with your friends too, as 36 percent of respondents said they do not hire applicants who post information about them drinking or using drugs. “Partying is OK, just be sure to keep it decent and nice”, recommends Mariëlle Obels, career coach at Career Connection.

Discriminatory comments related to race, gender, religion or sexuality can also cause a job applicant to be turned down, with 31 percent of recruiters reporting they have not hired someone for that reason. “Political statements and bullying others is an absolute no”, says Obels. Lying about your qualifications is another obvious no go, yet a significant amount of job applicants still do it: 27 percent of surveyors said they caught a candidate in a lie at least once.

Job applicants should also pay attention to their screen name: 22 percent of surveyed headhunters said they have given up hiring someone because their screen name or email address looked unprofessional. Also, if you think impeccable spelling and grammar are not necessary on social media, bear in mind that many recruiters do not agree with that: 27 percent of respondents said poor grammar and bad communication skills on social media have caused to not hire a candidate.

Even posting too frequently can cause someone to be turned down in a recruitment process: 12 percent of surveyors stated that applicants who are on social media all the time usually have their CVs thrown in the trash. After all, who can guarantee they will be able to stay off social media during working hours?

Furthermore, avoid using social media to vent about your employer or colleagues, as a fourth of respondents said such behavior is a deal breaker for them. “Nobody likes to be around Negative Nancy”, notes Obels. Those who share confidential information about their current or previous employers are also frowned upon by the surveyed recruiters.

“People have to be aware that everything they posted in the past on social media is going to visible and easy to find for people, so if there's anything that could have a negative influence on your job search, be aware of it or delete it”, Obels adds.

Thinking it’s safer to avoid all trouble by not joining social media at all? Think again. Nearly half of the respondents (47 percent) said they are less likely to invite a candidate for an interview if they can’t find them online. Among those, 28 percent said it’s because they like to gather more information about job applicants before shortlisting them. The remaining 19 percent said they expect candidates to have an online presence and leverage social media for personal marketing.

What employers do like to see on your social media profiles

The opposite can also happens: a social media post can cause a candidate to look better in an employer’s eye. In addition to finding information that supports your CV’s claims, recruiters appreciate it when a candidate is creative. 34 percent of surveyors said creativity on social media has caused them to hire someone. Applicants should also make sure to show their personality and display a wide range of interests, as 31 percent of respondents enjoy seeing that in a profile. At the end of the day, recruiters are looking for someone who is the right fit for the team, so the more accurately you show your personality, the better.

“Your social media activity has to align with the things you mention in your CV and cover letter. Your story has to be consistent throughout the whole job searching process”, advises Obels. “If you are in fashion or interested in working in fashion, it is great to mention that you are reading a great book about the history of fashion, or visiting a nice exhibition about a designer”.

If you have ever received awards or accolades, make sure to mention them on your social media too: 26 percent of recruiters said they have hired a candidate because of that. In addition, don't be shy to make use of your contacts: 23 percent of those surveyed said they like it when a former employer, teacher or advisor vouches for a candidate on Linkedin.

If a given company is your dream job, interacting with their social accounts may help. Liking, sharing or commenting their posts shows that you’re interested in them, and up to date about their developments. 22 percent of those surveyed said they have at least once decided to hire a candidate because they interacted with the company on social media.

“Networking, also on social media, is about giving. So start giving and it will come back to you”, notes Obels.

Irfan, My code is very similar. After some testing, I found that there are a few files that will actually work correctly (some older Word and Excel files). They show a normal GET-SIZE(mFile) value relating to their size on disk. For the files that don't work (which is most that I have tried, including new Excel files, any PDF, and any JPG), the GET-SIZE(mFile) is returning a value like 1,295,547,846 for files that are 11Kb on disk. All these files work perfectly under Classic WebSpeed. I'll do some more digging when I get a chance and see what the incoming POST bodies look like to see if I can see any difference between files that work and do not. Thanks, Brian

Posted by: haux - Some co-workers and I were sitting at a table on an outside patio at a bar. It wasn't anyplace familiar, though it sort of reminded me of the Gingerman in Austin. An unfamiliar woman was flirting with me, which made me uncomfortable. My co-workers laughed about it. There was a large piece of construction equipment next to the table. It wasn't a backhoe or anything familiar. It was ambiguous, like a large cabin but no digging or mechanical parts sticking out. Ashley was a little drunk...

Early Benchmarks Reveal iPhone X is Faster Than the New Galaxy Note9 [Chart]      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Early benchmarks of the new Samsung Galaxy Note9 show improved performance over the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S9+ but the Apple iPhone X is still faster.

Tom's Guide tested the Note 9 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Geekbench 4 measures overall performance, and the Note 9 delivers solid performance in the benchmark's multi-core test. The Note 9 notched 8,876, which is considerably better than last year's Note 8. It also smokes the Pixel 2 XL, but that phone was running an older Snapdragon 835 chip, just like the Note 8.

Apple Pay Now Has Over 252 Million Users [Report]      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Apple Pay is estimated to have over 252 million users, according to a new research note from Loup Ventures. While less than 20% of global smartphone users currently use a digital wallet, analyst Gene Munster believes that number will rise to over 80%.

Apple has several advantages to brand the iPhone as the premium digital wallet given its ability to integrate payments into both mobile and desktop operating systems, use its brand to win accepting retailers and supporting banks, and reassure users that transactions are secure and private. Separately, Apple Pay is the only digital wallet with all five payment pillars: mobile, desktop, in-app, peer to peer, and point of sale.

It's estimated that 31% of iPhone users have used Apple Pay in the past year compared to 25% a year ago. With the company's continued expansion into new markets, Loup Ventures expects to see transaction growth of 200% over the next 12 months.

The Spanish City. Whitley Bay. UK. After 30 years of dereliction it is now open again with bars and restaurants. Immortalized by the group Dire Straits in their song The Tunnel of Love. She took off a silver locket she said remember me by this She put her hand in my pocket I got a keepsake and a kiss And in the roar of dust and diesel I stood and watched her walk away I could have caught up with her easy enough but something must have made me stay And the big wheel keep on turning neon burning up above And I'm just high on the world Come on and take a low ride with me girl On the tunnel of love And now I'm searching through these carousels and the carnival arcades Searching everywhere from steeplechase to palisades In any shooting gallery where promises are made To rock away rock away from Cullercoats and Whitley bay out to rock away And girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids Girl it looks so pretty to me like it always did Like the Spanish city to me when we were kids.

Sweep by Nomads Nature

The Robberg Peninsula is conserved for several reasons. The mainland connects to an island through a spit called a tombolo. This results from waves sweeping around both sides of the island. Similar to other rocky headlands on this coastline, Robberg Peninsula supports a diverse array of plants and animals that have adapted to this land/sea ecology. But what sets it apart is the distinctive climbing-falling dune (one of only seven on this coastline). The bedrock of the peninsula was dated to the prehistoric breaking up of Gondwanaland and evidence of this can be seen at several sites. Besides the unique and fascinating typography, evidence of middle and later Stone Age inhabitation was found in a few of the caves. It is for this reason that the reserve was proclaimed a national monument.
