Virtual network services that span multiple data centers are important to support emerging data-intensive applications in fields such as bioinformatics and retail analytics. Successful virtual network service composition and maintenance requires flexible and scalable 'constrained shortest path management' both in the management plane for virtual network embedding (VNE) or network function virtualization service chaining (NFV-SC), as well as in the data plane for traffic engineering (TE). In this paper, we show analytically and empirically that leveraging constrained shortest paths within recent VNE, NFV-SC and TE algorithms can lead to network utilization gains (of up to 50%) and higher energy efficiency. The management of complex VNE, NFV-SC and TE algorithms can be, however, intractable for large scale substrate networks due to the NP-hardness of the constrained shortest path problem. To address such scalability challenges, we propose a novel, exact constrained shortest path algorithm viz., 'Neighborhoods Method' (NM). Our NM uses novel search space reduction techniques and has a theoretical quadratic speed-up making it practically faster (by an order of magnitude) than recent branch-and-bound exhaustive search solutions. Finally, we detail our NM-based SDN controller implementation in a real-world testbed to further validate practical NM benefits for virtual network services.

Abstract
Bioinformatics encompasses many tools and techniques that today are essential for all areas of research in the biological sciences. New databases with a wealth of information about genomes, proteins, metabolites, and metabolic pathways appear almost daily. Particularly, for scientists who carry out research in plant biology, the amount of information has multiplied exponentially due to the large number of databases available for many individual plant species. In this sense, bioinformatics together with next generation sequencing and 'omics' approaches, can provide tools for plant breeding and the genetic engineering of plants. In addition, these technologies enable a better understanding of the processes and mechanisms that can lead to plants with increased tolerance to different abiotic stress conditions and resistance to pathogen attack, as well as the development of crop varieties with improved nutritional quality of seeds and fruits.

Abstract
The sudden exponential increase of biological data concerning genome structure and functionalities, also fostered by the advent of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies, while expanding the opportunity to highlight still uncovered molecular aspects, challenges bioinformatics in several repects. Data management, processing, updating, dissemination and integration are the major areas of concern. The rapid increase in various omics technologies causes two major issues, which may even appear contrasting: the dissemination of poorly curated datasets, still in the form of raw collections or preliminary draft results, and the fast updating of information that, as a consequence, affects the establishment of stable reliable resources. These issues are mainly caused by the lower rate of bioinformatics in extracting added value information from the large amount of data, when compared to the faster technologies involved in data production. This review describes main bioinformatics resources for plants genomics to underline the heterogeneity of the available collections, coherent with the multifaceted complexity of plant sciences. It aims to provide an in-depth report highlighting bottlenecks that may significantly affect a fluent progress in the field and attempts to suggest possible solutions to the various issues.

          Analysis of the Genome Sequence and Prediction of B-Cell Epitopes of the Envelope Protein of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache   
The outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome-coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in South Korea in April 2015 led to 186 infections and 37 deaths by the end of October 2015. MERS-CoV was isolated from the imported patient in China. The envelope (E) protein, a small structural protein of MERS-CoV, plays an important role in host recognition and infection. To identify the conserved epitopes of the E protein, sequence analysis was performed by comparing the E proteins from 42 MERS-CoV strains that triggered severe pandemics and infected humans in the past. To predict the potential B cell epitopes of E protein, three most effective online epitope prediction programs, the ABCpred, Bepipred, and Protean programs from the LaserGene software were used. All the nucleotides and amino acids sequences were obtained from the NCBI Database. One potential epitope with a suitable length (amino acids 58–82) was confirmed and predicted to be highly antigenic. This epitope had scores of >0.80 in ABCpred and level 0.35 in Bepipred programs. Due to the lack of X-ray crystal structure of the E protein in the PDB database, the simulated 3D structure of the E protein were also predicted using PHYRE 2 and Pymol programs. In conclusion, using bioinformatics methods, we analyzed the genome sequence of MERS-CoV and identified a potential B-cell epitope of the E protein, which might significantly improve our current MERS vaccine development strategies.
