Magic Leap launches its first product      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Magic Leap, the secretive virtual reality company, announced the launch of its long-awaited first commercial product on Wednesday.

The details: Priced at $2,295, the Magic Leap One Creator Edition is an augmented reality headset that "brings digital content to life here in the real world with us," per the company's press release, by superimposing computer-generated effects over the user's surroundings.

The big picture: Magic Leap has spent years raising billions of dollars from investors without a product to show for it. Now, the company will face its first real test as reactions roll in.

A quick take: CNBC reporter Todd Haselton, who was invited to test out the headset, writes the "experience with the goggles...was like a computer-generated 3-D world with real depth."

  • His bottom line: "The Magic Leap One is impressive, and it's unlike any computer I've used before. I see a real future in being able to interact with digital screens inside the real world around us, but Magic Leap is going to need to convince everyone else of that, too. ... I imagine we're years away from the Magic Leap that's ready for the rest of us."

Does the Magic Leap One, and the Promise AR, Matter to Higher Ed?      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

The Magic Leap augmented reality (AR) headset is finally available. (If you live in a few select cities). After years of hype, the Florida startup that has raised $2.3 billion in capital (with Google being a big investor), is finally releasing its first device.

The cost is $2,295. The device is intended mostly for developers who might write applications for what Magic Leap hopes will be a new augmented reality ecosystem.

Does any of this matter to higher ed?

If you don’t know about Magic Leap, then congratulations. Avoiding the tech hype machine is an accomplishment.

The basic story is that Magic Leap, the company, has done a masterful job of raising money and of stoking public interest.  Up until this week, they had not released any product.  In interviews and slick demos, Magic Leap promised to make a giant leap in augmented (or mixed) reality.

AR is different from virtual reality (VR), in that the 3D digital images are superimposed on the real world.  An existing AR (or mixed-reality) device is the HoloLens from Microsoft, which came out in 2016.

Maybe your school has been playing with a HoloLens rig?  There has certainly been interest in higher education about how augmented reality may aid instruction in hands-on and lab courses.

Getting Magic One Leap devices into hands of higher ed people would be great. I’d love the opportunity to experiment with the technology. To figure out what sorts of learning apps could be developed. It would be cool to play around with extending hands-on lab assignments and tactile learning to online education.

So by all means, I hope that Magic Leap is set to do some higher ed outreach. Magic Leap, if you are listening, please send one to Hanover, NH.

What I also very much hope is that all of us commit to curb our augmented reality enthusiasm.

Let’s make a pact.  We should all stipulate up-front and in public that AR will not, in the end, be very important for higher education.

  • Augmented reality is not going to improve access to higher education.
  • Augmented reality is not going to do that much to advance learning.
  • Augmented reality is not going to lower the costs of higher education.

What AR might do in the future, and that future may be at least a decade off, is add one more sometimes useful tool to our teaching and learning toolkit.

Augmented reality, if ever integrated into teaching and learning (and again I say we are decade away from this possibility), is more likely to increase higher education costs than to lower them.  This is because new technologies get layered on top of old ways of doing things.

In the next few years I predict that we will see a bunch of edtech startups with AR at the center of their business plans. Most of these will fail. Don’t invest in them.

We will also see established edtech companies and publishers roll out splashy AR programs.  These initiatives will also have little impact on higher ed. Don’t get too excited by them.

The Magic Leap One is interesting.  The Microsoft HoloLens is interesting.  Augmented reality (AR), mixed-reality (MR), and virtual reality (VR) are all cool.  So are 3D printers.  And mobile education apps.  None of these technologies will be very important for higher education.

Care to argue the other side of the higher education / AR debate?

Will my predictions that augmented reality will be largely inconsequential for higher education end up looking like Ken Olsen’s (the founder of Digital Equipment Corporation), who said in 1977 that:

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.”

Or remember when Microsoft’s then CEO Steve Ballmer said in 2007 that,

"There's no chance that the iPhone is going to get any significant market share.”

I don’t think that AR, MR, or VR will end up mattering all that much for higher education - but maybe I’ll be wrong.

Shoot First and Dont Ask Questions Later in Operation Warcade This September      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

The nostalgia of classic arcade shooter game experiences from the 80s is back with a blast, as militaristic side-scrolling game Operation Warcade shoots to VR. Coming to North American retailers on September 4 for PlayStation VR, Operation Warcade is designed specifically for virtual reality and pulls players into over 100 insane missions across 36 unique levels.

From developer Ivanovich Games and publisher Perp Games, Operation Warcade pits trigger-happy players against a seemingly endless amount of enemies in a two-way rain of bullets. If mowing down foes using a trusted Uzi in one hand and grenades in the other isn’t a player’s style, they can also take opponents out with an arsenal of other weapons, including bows and a gravity gun.

"We have fond memories of making trips to the arcade to spend coins for hours of fun, and we love having that feeling again with Operation Warcade,” said Mickey Torode, director of publishing at Perp Games. "VR’s ability to fully transport you, like you’re standing in front of a classic arcade machine, is fantastic – and it goes even further, letting you literally step into the machine.”

Game Features:

  • Immersion Mode – After shooting various immersion points through each map, players are warped into the environment, putting the player directly behind the steering wheel of a jeep, in the cockpit of a military jet and other intense situations
  • Retro VR Feel – With over 10 hours of gameplay, Operation Warcade brings the rush of nostalgic arcade-style play to gamers in an all-new experience built from the ground up specifically for VR platforms
  • Hardcore Mode – Once players have mastered the art of taking dudes out repeatedly, they can go gung-ho in hardcore mode, where each environment is condensed into a single level with a limited number of retries
  • Online Leaderboards – Players can compare their kills to others through an online leaderboard to see who’s the biggest bad ass of them all.

Inside Play NYC, New York's largest video game convention       Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

New York City’s largest video game expo Play NYC only debuted in 2017, but Play NYC 2018 is already bigger in every way: more games, more digital art, more playtime, a bigger venue and a new social mission. In its new home at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Play NYC 2018 is going down Aug. 11-12 featuring nearly 150 games by dozens of indie developers from the five boroughs for every platform, from apps to PC games, consoles from Xbox One to the Nintendo Switch, and virtual reality on all the popular rigs including Oculus and PSVR.

We asked Dan Butchko, founder of Play NYC and CEO of Playcrafting, where developers can learn to code, network and market their games, for all the details about New York’s largest video game convention.

What’s new at Play NYC 2018?

Play NYC 2017 fit 5,000 people into Terminal 5 during its inaugural year, which is going up to 10,000 people for Play NYC 2018 at the Hammerstein Ballroom, a venue also used by New York Comic Con. Attendees can choose between two sessions each day to give you more time to play all the games — don’t miss Unicornelia, which has you physically step into the hooves of a unicorn and use your horn to complete tasks!

“Thanks to the new space, we’ve been able to add another full floor of games, with almost 40 more exhibitors than last year,” says Butchko. “The space itself is a great place to grow the show for years to come, with the ultimate goal to take over additional venues inside the Manhattan Center.”

Panels have also been opened up to all attendees, with a main stage where developer interviews, game announcements, special guests, live gameplay and more will take place right on the expo floor.

What makes Play NYC different

Play NYC focuses on independent developers who would be overshadowed at other conventions by the big players like Blizzard and Epic Games. Think of it as the mom-and-pop game convention, where you’re getting a chance to play games with surprising and unconventional concepts.

“I like to call New York the ‘final frontier of games’ in the U.S.,” says Butchko. “New York City features thousands of creators who are actively making and releasing games, even without the government-funded tax incentives places considered meccas of game development like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle receive.”

While a few big players have a presence in the city, notably Avalanche Studios, the lack of financial incentives have allowed small to medium independent studios to thrive. “[They] embody the New York ‘won’t quit’ attitude that helps them succeed against the odds,” with successful releases largely on the online game portal Steam and the Nintendo Switch, as those platforms are the easiest to self-publish on.

Play NYC is as much for them as it is for you: These developers often don’t have the funds to pay beta testers, so expect to see some in-progress games at the convention with developers eager for feedback.

A new social mission for Play NYC

Outside of eSports, video games are still seen as the realm of young white men — but looking around at the Play NYC crowd will show you immediately that gamers come in all ages, races and genders.

“We’ve done a number of initiatives to further promote inclusivity and diversity in games, including our annual Women In Games event, support of GaymerX and other initiatives,” says Butchko. “But given the current climate, we really wanted to make a statement with this year’s Graffiti Games initiative.”

Housed inside the Hammerstein Ballroom’s opera boxes, Graffiti Games are essentially augmented reality games projected onto walls and floors. Play NYC 2018 commissioned eight all-ages titles by immigrant developers you’ll find only at the convention. There’s Bizarre Barber, where you cut hair in a “surreal barbershop,” created by Maria Mishurenko and Gordey Chernyy from West Kazakhstan. A driving game where your obstacles are U.S. immigration red tape called Home Stretch was created by Prashast Thapan from New Delhi, India. And 127BPM uses a Dance Dance Revolution pad to keep pace with New York City pedestrians, the work of Uxin Gao from Hohhot City, China.

There’s space for analog games, too

Somewhat anachronistically for a video game festival, Play NYC is once again making space for LARPing and tabletop games. “Play NYC welcomes games of all shapes and sizes, including digital and non-digital,” says Butchko. A meta-game called Stamp Hunter encourages attendees to play as many booths as possible across all the “boroughs” of the show. And you can take a moment away from the screens with card and board games by companies like Mot & Dot, Zumble, Saturday Morning Games and The Grassy Noel.

Play NYC 2018 takes place Aug. 11-12 in four sessions, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or 3-8 p.m. at the Hammerstein Ballroom, 311 W. 34th St. Tickets are $33 at ticketmaster.com.

VSK.

@Couponking:

Global Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) in Healthcare Market Size and Forecast 2025: SAMSUNG, MICROSOFT, GOOGLE, Sony      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Qyresearchreports include new market research report "Global Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) in Healthcare Sales Market Report 2018" to its huge collection of research reports.

Brooklyn, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/08/2018 -- This report studies the global Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) in Healthcare market status and forecast, categorizes the global Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR) in Healthcare market size (value & volume) by key players, type, application, and region. This report focuses on the top players in North America, Europe, China, Japan, Southeast Asia India and Other regions (Middle East & Africa, Central & South America).

Virtual reality or virtual realities (VR), also known as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality, is a computer technology that replicates an environment, real or imagined, and simulates a user's physical presence and environment to allow for user interaction. Virtual realities artificially create sensory experience, which can include sight, touch, hearing, and smell.
Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing ones current perception of reality.

Hardware components for augmented reality are: processor, display, sensors and input devices. Modern mobile computing devices like smartphones and tablet computers contain these elements which often include a camera and MEMS sensors such as accelerometer, GPS, and solid state compass, making them suitable AR platforms.

North America dominated the market in 2016 with a revenue share of 43%, which can be attributed to constant technological advancement of related products, prevalence of neurological & psychological disorders, increased adoption of such advanced technologies, and presence of a sophisticated healthcare infrastructure. Furthermore, growing technological advancements in information technology and government support for integration of these technologies in medical field contribute to the large share of the market.

Royal Caribbean Introduces SoundSeeker      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Published in: Cruise News

Sound SeekerRoyal Caribbean International has designed and built a first-of-its-kind tool that transforms photos into an original, shareable soundtrack with a video to match. More than a year in the making, SoundSeeker is powered by artificial intelligence.

The tool is specifically designed to use machine learning to seamlessly create original soundtracks based on the content of each photograph, the company said.

By simply visiting www.SoundSeeker.com, users can upload three photos of their choice, and the AI analyzes them based on color, landscape, backdrop, emotion, body language and facial expression. SoundSeeker then turns them into a shareable and soundtrack – virtually DJing life’s most brag-worthy moments, Royal Caribbean said.

“SoundSeeker is the latest proof point of Royal Caribbean innovation and how we focus it on delivering unexpected, memorable experiences; whether that is the SkyPad, which uniquely combines bungee jumping with virtual reality or live streaming your favorite shows from the middle of the ocean using VOOM, the fastest internet at sea,” said Jim Berra, chief marketing officer, Royal Caribbean International. “People of all ages crave new ways to share their best experiences on social media. This unprecedented tool allows you to put a completely unique, multisensory spin on sharing those memories – now friends and followers can see and hear your life’s adventures.”

Royal Caribbean teamed up with experts from Berklee College of Music, and technologists from around the world, to create the unique song generator.

“We were excited to work with Royal Caribbean International on this new technological innovation, and in the process, redefine what creative collaboration means," said Panos A. Panay, Berklee vice president for Innovation and Strategy and managing director of BerkleeICE. “The work of BerkleeICE expands our students’ definition of what can be accomplished with music education by pushing the boundaries of creative expression utilizing technology. By harnessing AI to develop customized soundtracks for treasured memories, together, we have created a new way for people to share their experiences with one another.”

SoundSeeker uses machine learning, an artificial intelligence technique that enables computers to simulate human intelligence and make decisions on their own without explicit instructions. The learning process entailed more than 600 hours in which Royal Caribbean and a team of musicians and technologists reviewed hundreds of music tracks along with 10,000 photos, matching each of the 2.5 million combinations to one of 10 moods.

The AI in SoundSeeker uses Google Cloud Vision to identify objects, facial expressions and colors in a user’s photo by referencing the roadmap developed by the leaders in music theory at Berklee. SoundSeeker then finds the musical elements corresponding to each mood in the photo to compose a genuinely distinct audio and visual photo album. The Royal Caribbean tool is equipped to generate over one million unique tracks, based on custom base tracks, composed exclusively for the cruise line. The customized tracks take inspiration from a wide variety of music, including 90s hip-hop, rock, modern and electronic dance music.

"Virtual Insanity" - Die Schattenseiten der virtuellen Welt      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Cao Fei (China Tracy in SL) / Quelle: experimente#digital

Lee Simpson on Why Diverse Experiences Shape Better Designers       Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

This is the latest installment of our Core77 Questionnaire. Previously, we talked to Ron Faris of the Nike SNKRS app.

Name: Lee Simpson

Occupation: My current role is Head of Media & Entertainment Products at ustwo, but I'm wearing many hats right now. Predominately, I'm a design lead and product strategist, which means I work closely with our clients in the media and entertainment space to bring new products and digital experiences to market.

Recently, I've been more involved in business development, developing relationships with new and existing clients and identifying strategic growth opportunities for ustwo. I'm also involved in setting the strategic direction for that work globally, basically defining ustwo's proposition, products and services and making sure ustwo (and our clients) are ahead of the curve.

Location: I've been in the U.S. for almost 4 years, but I'm originally from the U.K. I spent the first 3 years in New York, based out of ustwo's office in the Financial District. Last May, I relocated to LA to be closer to our clients.

When did you decide that you wanted to be a designer?

I came to design, as a career, kind of by accident. After leaving high school, I started my own street wear label/company. I worked with graffiti artists and illustrators from my local town, designing and manufacturing t-shirts and hoodies. Over time, our roster of creatives included people from all over the world and the brand grew into a small community.

ustwo's VR work for Google Cardboard

Later on, I met a guy who owned two or three contemporary art galleries North of England. He asked me to curate a show for one of his locations, so we brought a bunch of artists in from Europe and around the U.K. and put on a month long exhibition of their work. We almost sold out, and after that, I came on full time as gallery manager—I spent 2 years organizing shows and developing print releases with artists.

When the recession hit, art sales started to decline and we decided to close the gallery. Beyond art, the only other skill I had was a basic understanding of Photoshop, so I ended up taking a few freelance gigs designing logos and websites for local businesses. It was around that time I became interested in web development, so I started reading books and taking online classes on HTML and PHP. Things developed from there, and I started work at my first start-up in 2008 as a UI Designer and Front-End Engineer.

What was your first job in media and entertainment design?

My first experience working in media and entertainment was at a small design and development agency in London. The majority of their clients are in the video content space and include a handful of the major U.K. broadcasters. The agency specializes in developing consumer facing, video-on-demand platforms and content management systems, so I got a fairly in-depth look at the industry—including its challenges. Some of these broadcasters are 60-70 years old and their audience numbers are in the millions. I'd always had a bit of an obsession with TV growing up, so getting to work on products of that scale with brands I actually loved was awesome. Working at that agency was definitely a career highlight.

What projects are you most proud of from your time at ustwo so far?

One of my first projects at ustwo was with Comcast on a new video-streaming product called Watchable. They had an existing library of short-form content and asked us to help create a product that would serve to audiences in a unique way. The challenge was to get casual, short-form consumers to watch more.

Comcast Watchable

We designed the service around an editorial model, basically playlists of video content that were grouped by a theme or an event. The playlists would contain video from popular producers like Screen Junkies or Red Bull and were mixed with lesser-known creators as a way of introducing users to new content based on stuff they like. Rather than follow the YouTube or Facebook trend, we went in a completely different direction with the UI and UX. We wanted to design something that would stand out in a crowded market but would still deliver a good experience.

What are some current projects you're working on at ustwo that you're most excited about?

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality have been a big focus for ustwo over the past two years, and a lot of our clients in the media and entertainment space are really keen to explore the potential there. As a designer, I'm always excited about new technologies and how they can be applied to solve problems. To go from designing 2D experiences to 3D experiences and overcoming all the challenges that exist with hardware and software is keeping me on my toes.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part is definitely the variety. When I freelanced, I spent as much time taking care of the "business" as I did designing. No two days were the same. Since then, I've always looked for jobs that could give me that same freedom, hence why I was drawn to ustwo.

What is the most important quality of someone who works in your field?

I really like people who have had significant experience outside of the 'industry.' Some of the best designers I've worked with have had entirely different careers or studied something unrelated and decided to pivot to design and product. For me, those people always have the most interesting perspectives and their approach to problem solving is different than those who may have come from design school or had more formal training.

What is your favorite productivity tip or trick?

For some reason, to-do lists never really worked for me until recently. Last year, a friend introduced me to Things—a productive app on iOS and Mac that's actually been around for a while. It's fairly simple and doesn't have any bells or whistles, but when you find a process that works for you, it's a game changer! I use it for my daily tasks, as well as a CRM to remind me to reach out to people or follow up on something.

I also love early mornings. I wake up around 5:30am most mornings, even on weekends, and use that time to get my focus work (like writing and reading) done, or go for a walk. If you work from home, a morning walk is like an energy power-up for the day. I've seen a significant increase in my focus since I started doing it more regularly.

How do you procrastinate?

I'm more of a "procrastiworker" than a procrastinator—I really enjoy my work and honestly find it hard to switch off. I'm always trying to learn something new and can't remember a time in the last 14 years when I didn't have some kind of ongoing side project. So outside of my 9-to-5, that keeps me fairly busy.

I watch a lot of YouTube and Twitch. Most of the time I'll have it on in the background, but if I get distracted I go into a hole. I love finding those videos from the deepest, darkest corners of YouTube. I discovered IRL streaming about four to five months ago, and it's been my latest obsession. There's a big community of people who stream their everyday lives—going for breakfast, buying groceries and hanging out with friends. It seems really boring but it's honestly some of the most compelling content on Twitch.

What is the most widespread misunderstanding about your job?

It's a cliché, but the most widespread misunderstanding about designers in general is that their only job is to make things that look nice. That attitude is definitely changing, and over the past ten years, design has really earned a seat at the table. For some designers, however, it can be hard to break out of that box. I speak to a lot of designers coming to the end of their junior years, and they don't see a clear career path for themselves.

Do yo have any advice for young designers?

Talent is just one part of the puzzle. You need to work hard and diversify your skill set. I've seen a lot of designers in my career who obviously had natural talent but weren't willing to put the hours in. It's a really competitive market right now, and there are a lot of amazing designers looking for employment. A work-life balance is important, but so is self-discipline. A solid work ethic and those things will show in your work and give you a competitive advantage.

Also, always look for ways to diversify your skill set. The material taught in schools and colleges are already four or five years out of date by the time most young designers graduate. For example, no one could have predicted the impact that augmented reality, virtual reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence would have on the industry. You need to constantly look ahead to see what's coming over the horizon—keep yourself and your skills relevant for the market.

VR Here - Virtual Reality Gaming      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Last weekend me, Jade and my friend Reef got up early and jumped on the M62 to Liverpool. We had the opportunity to go to VR Here to experience their virtual reality arcade. Now, I am a gamer, ever since I got my very first SNES in the 90's, I have constantly had a passion for seeking out new games and technology. When Jade told me we were going VR gaming for the day I was excited but also nervous. I have never really had a fully immersive VR experience so I wasn't entirely sure how I would find it, if I would enjoy it or if it would just make me want to throw up. When we arrived we pulled up and parked right outside, VR Here are based in a small unit just outside Liverpool city centre so the ability to park outside the place for free is great.

Walking into the building we were greeted by a staff member who gave us a quick talk about what we were going to be getting up to in the virtual world we were about to enter. The unit was stacked with custom built PC's to make the gaming experience as smooth and immersive as possible. We learnt that VR Here was one the first gaming arcade to open in the country and also learnt a bit about the research that goes into making sure the game runs as smooth as possible in terms for FPS (frames per second) rate. The set up here uses 90FPS which is a lot higher than any of your home set ups.

The room had 4 separate booths in it, all with a VR kit ready and waiting, we all took up a booth while the guy strapped the headset on tight and gave us our controllers. As soon as the headset was attached the magic began to happen, looking around you could see the moon, the earth, stars, sky. It felt as though someone had just plucked you from planet earth and put you in a whole new world.

The first experience we had was an underwater scene, this gave us an insight into the detail that can be used in the VR gaming world, the colours were phenomenally breathtaking. You could interact with everything you saw in front of you. If you wanted to try and touch the fish all you had to do was reach out in front of you while holding the controller. We chased fish, stood in the middle of millions of jelly fish and looked a blue whale clear in the eye while standing on a ship wreck. They say "you only get one chance to make a first impression, so make it count" VR Here definitely made it count.

We then went into a classic game of Space Invaders, but with a twist. Rather than it being the old 64bit classic, your hands became laser pistols and you were thrown into a space utopia where you were tasked with shooting oncoming alien space craft. This game really highlighted how well the motion sensors work. When the enemies fired back you physically had to move your body out of the way to avoid losing health.

After this, we were thrown into a magical medieval world. In this game we had to work as a team of archers to stop oncoming waves of enemies from destroying the gate we were protecting. It was your classic tower defence type game. A new game, meant a new set of hands, this time we had a bow in one had and the other had was used to draw your arrows. The graphics again were outstanding and really add to the immersive experience. At one point my arrows were on fire and it looked as though real fire was only a few feet in front of me.

The next game was the first real game that made me feel a little unsteady for the first minute or so. This time we all faced off against each other in a futuristic death match. In one hand we had a gun and in the other you had what can only be described as a rocket that was used to fly around the world. The sensation of flying despite standing still was bizarre. For the first minute of so I felt like I was going to fall over several times but once you get used to it the feeling is crazy. You could land on building which was odd because naturally you bend your knees when landing despite you physical body not even leaving the ground.

We were then transported to a metropolis, a huge city and we had to get in a lift to the top floor of a skyscraper. The floor was called "The Plank" and guess what? We were asked to walk it. This was bizarre, I am not someone who is scared of heights but all of a sudden being 100ft in the air in a reality world seemed daunting. As much as I tried to convince myself that I was on solid ground in Liverpool my brain would not shift a sense of caution and danger. The game did not just make you fall when you got to the end of the plank, if you were not careful with your footing you could fall off the side of the plank, this again just showed how intelligent this form of gaming is when a sensor can recognise where you would step in a virtual world. Eventually I fell off the plank and fell to the floor, for the first few seconds of the fall I had that feeling you sometimes get when you are just falling asleep and you get the sense of falling. After this we could go back  in the lift and visit different floors, I went to the fireman floor, I had a Jet Pack and a Hose Pipe and I had to fly all over the city putting out fires. There was a painting floor which Jade tried out where she also had a Jet Pack and a Hose Pipe only rather than putting out fires she could choose a colour and leave a paint trail.

We then played a game that has become popular on social media of late. We had a red laser sword in one hand and a blue laser sword in the other. Oncoming were red or blue blocks with an arrow on them, we had to slice the block in the correct direction with the right coloured sword while dodging oncoming obstacles in time to music. Think of it as if Star Wars did a cross over with Guitar hero. Every game we played before I spent a lot of time exploring, and appreciating the brilliance of the concept but this was the first game I played as if I were at home in my living room, I found myself really concentrating and taking it quite seriously, I wanted to beat the game. At one point an obstacle hit me, I actually flinched as I was that convinced that I was actually in the game.  This was a great game, simple, yet so effective.
