Sonnet Unveils New Echo 11 Thunderbolt 3 Dock Ideal for the New MacBook Pro      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Sonnet has announced the release of a new Echo 11 Thunderbolt 3 dock that can connect multiple peripheral devices to your Mac through an included Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) cable.

Through the same cable, the Echo 11 delivers up to 87 watts to charge and power compatible notebook computers, such as the MacBook Pro 15-inch computer, allowing users to leave their computer’s power adapter packed away when connected to the dock.

“There are many Thunderbolt docks on the market today that scrimp on USB ports or power delivery, or both,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “The Echo 11 Thunderbolt 3 Dock uniquely offers a full array of ports, including five USB 3.0 ports plus the 87 watts of power delivery that a MacBook Pro 15-inch needs to operate and charge — all at a value price.”

Photos and video of what appears to be a production unit Google Pixel 3 XL have been leaked online, reports AndroidPolice. Images of the device were shared by a Ukrainian tech blogger on Telegram with the smartphone being described as a 'pre-release version'.

On-screen content seems to confirm that we're looking at a Pixel 3 XL running Android 9 with an 8-core Qualcomm processor — that we assume is the Snapdragon 845 — and an Adreno 630 GPU. A resolution of 1440x2960 with a pixel density of 494 is also stated, and there's further confirmation that the device will have just 4GB of RAM.

More hands-on video with dummy models purportedly based on schematics for the rumored 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.5-inch iPhone models have been posted online.

No one is quite sure what Apple will call these three models so vloggers have been using different names to describe the same model.

Marques Brownlee writes, "iPhone 9? iPhone X Plus? iPhone Xs? iPhone 11? iPhone 2019? The new iPhone? We don't know the name... but we know what it'll look like!"

AFC2 Released With Support for Devices Jailbroken Using Electra and Meridian      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Cannathea has announced the release of Apple File Conduit 2 (AFC2) for arm64 devices running KPP-less jailbreaks like Electra or Meridian. Cannathea is a development team consisting of ichitaso, Karen/あけみ, and Hiraku Wang.

The Cannathea release of AFC2 is a modified version of saurik's original AFC2 code that downloads and installs an arm64 copy of afcd (required on iOS 11 and above) straight from Apple, and then automatically grants it the necessary 'platform-application' entitlement required for functionality on KPPLess jailbreaks (like Electra and Meridian). This makes the package legal since it does not redistribute copyright Apple binaries.

AFC2 lets you access your entire filesystem over USB. Here is saurik's original explanation of what AFC2 is...

Apple Explains How It Improves Siri's Ability to Recognize Names of Local POIs      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Apple has posted a new entry on its Machine Learning blog that explains how it improves Siri's ability to recognize names of local POIs by incorporating knowledge of the user's location into its speech recognition system.

The method we present in this article assumes that users are more likely to search for nearby local POIs with mobile devices than with Macs, for instance, and therefore uses geolocation information from mobile devices to improve POI recognition. This helps us better estimate the user’s intended sequence of words. We’ve been able to significantly improve the accuracy of local POI recognition and understanding by incorporating users’ geolocation information into Siri’s ASR system.
