Casa Colonial La Rana Dorada / Fémur arquitectura       Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Airline Copa's profit drops 21 pct on Panama-Venezuela spat      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Aug 8- Panama- based airline Copa Holdings on Wednesday reported net operating income of $49 million, down 21 percent from a year earlier due in part to a diplomatic spat between Panama and Venezuela that temporarily blocked flights to Caracas. Copa's profit missed an average estimate of $55 million in a Thomson Reuters survey of nine analysts.
Kim Jong Un looked really happy touring a fish-pickling factory      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently visited a fish-pickling factory, according to photos state media released on Wednesday.

The photos of the supreme leader beaming next to stacks of food is no doubt meant to send a signal to the world that the Hermit Kingdom is doing better than ever. North Korea is notorious for its propaganda, especially about Kim.

But the country's economy is still under the grip of international sanctions imposed after its nuclear tests. A United Nations report last year concluded 70% of North Koreans were struggling to get enough to eat.

On Tuesday, White House national security adviser John Bolton said the country wasn't holding up its promises toward denuclearization.

Still, Kim looked very happy as he toured the factory with soldiers, dressed in an uncharacteristically casual getup:

Kim was accompanied on the trip by his wife, Ri Sol-ju, who followed him around the Kumsanpho plant, smiling and dutifully holding his suit jacket.

North Korean state media said the factory, located in the South Hwanghae Province, is the first of its kind, producing 30 types of pickled-fish products, including eel, anchovy, and shrimp. Kim allegedly called the stockpiles of food a "spectacular view," according to state media.

An estimated 41% of North Koreans, or 10.5 million people, are believed to be undernourished.

Using Nordvpn too. I do think it’s crucial to protect your personal data online. Being able to watch Netflix from abroad is a nice thing to have, but cyber security should be a no1 priority to everyone. The fact that Nord is based in Panama and does not have to keep logs really comforts me. I’ve set it up on my wife’s computer as well as my son’s iPad. I just hope malware and hacking is not gonna become our daily life.

The Ultimate Rich Kids Were the Children of Famous Explorers      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

When Cristóbal Colón/Christopher Columbus happened upon the New World, ripe for exploitation, he became a very wealthy man, although most of the riches went to the king of Spain for sponsoring the trip. But what happened afterward? Colón had two sons, Fernando and Diego, who inherited his wealth, but were they to inherit a portion of the lands their father "discovered," or a portion of what it produced, or just what Cristóbal left them when he died? The Spanish crown had passed to another generation as well, and Charles V did not see eye to eye with Colón's heirs.

While Fernando was spending money, Diego was trying to consolidate his family’s status as one of the most powerful families in the “New World,” with control over Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Cuba. Before his father’s first voyage, in 1492, Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand had agreed that, if his quest succeeded, Cristóbal Colón would be entitled to 10 percent of the takings of his voyage, plus a bevy of titles. Every time Diego tried to claim what he thought he was owed, the crown fought back. When he died, his father’s legacy was still contested.

The monarchy’s legal case rested on the idea that it wasn’t Colón, but one of his ship’s captains, who had first discovered the Americas. Ultimately, Diego’s widow went into arbitration with the crown, and his son, Luis Colón de Toledo, came out with a title—Admiral of the Indies—control of Jamaica, an estate in Panama, and a 10,000-ducat annuity that was meant to last in perpetuity.

It was, perhaps, less than the Colón family thought they were owed and less than Cristóbal’s contract specified. But the Colón family came out ahead of other scions of conquistadors.

The Age of Exploration enriched quite a few European families, who had varying degrees of success dealing with the riches and legacy of their explorer fathers. Read the adventures of the descendants of Hernán Cortés (who had a son in the New World and a son in the Old World, and named them both Martin), Francisco Pizarro, and Cristóbal Colón at Atlas Obscura.

Ten Bombshell Revelations From Seymour Hersh's New Autobiography       Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Among the more interesting revelations to surface as legendary investigative journalist Seymour Hersh continues a book tour and gives interviews discussing his newly published autobiography, Reporter: A Memoir, is that he never set out to write it at all, but was actually deeply engaged in writing a massive exposé of Dick Cheney a project he decided couldn't ultimately be published in the current climate of aggressive persecution of whistleblowers which became especially intense during the Obama years.

Hersh has pointed out he worries his sources risk exposure while taking on the Cheney book, which ultimately resulted in the famed reporter opting to write an in-depth account of his storied career instead — itself full of previously hidden details connected with major historical events and state secrets

In a recent wide-ranging interview with the UK Independent, Hersh is finally asked to discuss in-depth some of the controversial investigative stories he's written on Syria, Russia-US intelligence sharing, and the Osama bin Laden death narrativewhich have gotten the Pulitzer Prize winner and five-time Polk Award recipient essentially blacklisted from his regular publication, The New Yorker magazine, for which he broke stories of monumental importance for decades.

Though few would disagree that Hersh "has single-handedly broken more stories of genuine world-historical significance than any reporter alive (or dead, perhaps)" — as The Nation put it — the man who exposed shocking cover-ups like the My Lai Massacre, the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, and the truth behind the downing of Korean Air Flight 007, has lately been shunned and even attacked by the American mainstream media especially over his controversial coverage of Syria and the bin Laden raid in 2011.

But merely a few of the many hit pieces written on this front include The Washington Post's "Sy Hersh, journalism giant: Why some who worshiped him no longer do," and elsewhere "Whatever happened to Seymour Hersh?" or "Sy Hersh's Chemical Misfire" in Foreign Policy — the latter which was written, it should be noted, by a UK blogger who conducts chemical weapons "investigations" via YouTube and Google Maps (and this is not an exaggeration).

The Post story begins by acknowledging, "But Sy Hersh now has a problem: He thinks 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue lied about the death of Osama bin Laden, and it seems nearly everyone is mad at him for saying so" — before proceeding to take a sledgehammer to Hersh's findings while painting him as some kind of conspiracy theorist (Hersh published the bin Laden story for the London Review of Books after his usual New Yorker rejected it).

Seymour Hersh broke the story of CIA's illegal domestic operations with a front page story in the New York Times on December 22, 1974.

However, the mainstream pundits piling on against his reporting of late ignore the clearly establish historical pattern when it comes to Hersh: nearly all of the biggest stories of his career were initially met with incredulity and severe push back from both government officials and even his fellow journalists, and yet he's managed to emerge proven right and ultimately vindicated time and again.

* * *

Here are ten bombshell revelations and fascinating new details to lately come out of both Sy Hersh's new book, Reporter, as well as interviews he's given since publication...

1) On a leaked Bush-era intelligence memo outlining the neocon plan to remake the Middle East

(Note: though previously alluded to only anecdotally by General Wesley Clark in his memoir and in a 2007 speech, the below passage from Seymour Hersh is to our knowledge the first time this highly classified memo has been quoted. Hersh's account appears to corroborate now retired Gen. Clark's assertion that days after 9/11 a classified memo outlining plans to foster regime change in "7 countries in 5 years" was being circulated among intelligence officials.)

From Reporter: A Memoir pg. 306 — A few months after the invasion of Iraq, during an interview overseas with a general who was director of a foreign intelligence service, I was provided with a copy of a Republican neocon plan for American dominance in the Middle East. The general was an American ally, but one who was very rattled by the Bush/Cheney aggression. I was told that the document leaked to me initially had been obtained by someone in the local CIA station. There was reason to be rattled: The document declared that the war to reshape the Middle East had to begin "with the assault on Iraq. The fundamental reason for this... is that the war will start making the U.S. the hegemon of the Middle East. The correlative reason is to make the region feel in its bones, as it were, the seriousness of American intent and determination." Victory in Iraq would lead to an ultimatum to Damascus, the "defanging" of Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization, and other anti-Israeli groups. America's enemies must understand that "they are fighting for their life: Pax Americana is on its way, which implies their annihilation." I and the foreign general agreed that America's neocons were a menace to civilization.

* * *

2) On early regime change plans in Syria

From Reporter: A Memoir pages 306-307 — Donald Rumsfeld was also infected with neocon fantasy. Turkey had refused to permit America's Fourth Division to join the attack of Iraq from its territory, and the division, with its twenty-five thousand men and women, did not arrive in force inside Iraq until mid-April, when the initial fighting was essentially over. I learned then that Rumsfeld had asked the American military command in Stuttgart, Germany, which had responsibility for monitoring Europe, including Syria and Lebanon, to begin drawing up an operational plan for an invasion of Syria. A young general assigned to the task refused to do so, thereby winning applause from my friends on the inside and risking his career. The plan was seen by those I knew as especially bizarre because Bashar Assad, the ruler of secular Syria, had responded to 9/11 by sharing with the CIA hundreds of his country's most sensitive intelligence files on the Muslim Brotherhood in Hamburg, where much of the planning for 9/11 was carried out... Rumsfeld eventually came to his senses and back down, I was told...

3) On the Neocon deep state which seized power after 9/11

From Reporter: A Memoir pages 305-306 — I began to comprehend that eight or nine neoconservatives who were political outsiders in the Clinton years had essentially overthrown the government of the United States — with ease. It was stunning to realize how fragile our Constitution was. The intellectual leaders of that group — Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and Richard Perle — had not hidden their ideology and their belief in the power of the executive but depicted themselves in public with a great calmness and a self-assurance that masked their radicalism. I had spent many hours after 9/11 in conversations with Perle that, luckily for me, helped me understand what was coming. (Perle and I had been chatting about policy since the early 1980s, but he broke off relations in 1993 over an article I did for The New Yorker linking him, a fervent supporter of Israel, to a series of meetings with Saudi businessmen in an attempt to land a multibillion-dollar contract from Saudi Arabia. Perle responded by publicly threatening to sue me and characterizing me as a newspaper terrorist. He did not sue.

Meanwhile, Cheney had emerged as a leader of the neocon pack. From 9/11 on he did all he could to undermine congressional oversight. I learned a great deal from the inside about his primacy in the White House, but once again I was limited in what I would write for fear of betraying my sources...

I came to understand that Cheney's goal was to run his most important military and intelligence operations with as little congressional knowledge, and interference, as possible. I was fascinating and important to learn what I did about Cheney's constant accumulation of power and authority as vice president, but it was impossible to even begin to verify the information without running the risk that Cheney would learn of my questioning and have a good idea from whom I was getting the information.

4) On Russian meddling in the US election

From the recent Independent interview based on his autobiography — Hersh has vociferously strong opinions on the subject and smells a rat. He states that there is “a great deal of animosity towards Russia. All of that stuff about Russia hacking the election appears to be preposterous.” He has been researching the subject but is not ready to go public… yet.

Hersh quips that the last time he heard the US defense establishment have high confidence, it was regarding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He points out that the NSA only has moderate confidence in Russian hacking. It is a point that has been made before; there has been no national intelligence estimate in which all 17 US intelligence agencies would have to sign off. “When the intel community wants to say something they say it… High confidence effectively means that they don’t know.”

5) On the Novichok poisoning

From the recent Independent interview — Hersh is also on the record as stating that the official version of the Skripal poisoning does not stand up to scrutiny. He tells me: “The story of novichok poisoning has not held up very well. He [Skripal] was most likely talking to British intelligence services about Russian organised crime.” The unfortunate turn of events with the contamination of other victims is suggestive, according to Hersh, of organised crime elements rather than state-sponsored actions –though this files in the face of the UK government's position.

Hersh modestly points out that these are just his opinions. Opinions or not, he is scathing on Obama – “a trimmer … articulate [but] … far from a radical … a middleman”. During his Goldsmiths talk, he remarks that liberal critics underestimate Trump at their peril.

He ends the Goldsmiths talk with an anecdote about having lunch with his sources in the wake of 9/11. He vents his anger at the agencies for not sharing information. One of his CIA sources fires back: “Sy you still don’t get it after all these years – the FBI catches bank robbers, the CIA robs banks.” It is a delicious, if cryptic aphorism.

6) On the Bush-era 'Redirection' policy of arming Sunni radicals to counter Shia Iran, which in a 2007 New Yorker article Hersh accurately predicted would set off war in Syria

From the Independent interview: [Hersh] tells me it is “amazing how many times that story has been reprinted”. I ask about his argument that US policy was designed to neutralize the Shia sphere extending from Iran to Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon and hence redraw the Sykes-Picot boundaries for the 21st century.

He goes on to say that Bush and Cheney “had it in for Iran”, although he denies the idea that Iran was heavily involved in Iraq: “They were providing intel, collecting intel … The US did many cross-border hunts to kill ops [with] much more aggression than Iran”...

He believes that the Trump administration has no memory of this approach. I’m sure though that the military-industrial complex has a longer memory...

I press him on the RAND and Stratfor reports including one authored by Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz in which they envisage deliberate ethno-sectarian partitioning of Iraq. Hersh ruefully states that: “The day after 9/11 we should have gone to Russia. We did the one thing that George Kennan warned us never to do – to expand NATO too far.”

* * *

7) On the official 9/11 narrative

From the Independent interview: We end up ruminating about 9/11, perhaps because it is another narrative ripe for deconstruction by sceptics. Polling shows that a significant proportion of the American public believes there is more to the truth. These doubts have been reinforced by the declassification of the suppressed 28 pages of the 9/11 commission report last year undermining the version that a group of terrorists acting independently managed to pull off the attacks. The implication is that they may well have been state-sponsored with the Saudis potentially involved.

Hersh tells me: “I don’t necessarily buy the story that Bin Laden was responsible for 9/11. We really don’t have an ending to the story. I’ve known people in the [intelligence] community. We don’t know anything empirical about who did what”. He continues: “The guy was living in a cave. He really didn’t know much English. He was pretty bright and he had a lot of hatred for the US. We respond by attacking the Taliban. Eighteen years later… How’s it going guys?”

8) On the media and the morality of the powerful

From a recent The Intercept interview and book review  If Hersh were a superhero, this would be his origin story. Two hundred and seventy-four pages after the Chicago anecdote, he describes his coverage of a massive slaughter of Iraqi troops and civilians by the U.S. in 1991 after a ceasefire had ended the Persian Gulf War. America’s indifference to this massacre was, Hersh writes, “a reminder of the Vietnam War’s MGR, for Mere Gook Rule: If it’s a murdered or raped gook, there is no crime.” It was also, he adds, a reminder of something else: “I had learned a domestic version of that rule decades earlier” in Chicago.

“Reporter” demonstrates that Hersh has derived three simple lessons from that rule:

  1. The powerful prey mercilessly upon the powerless, up to and including mass murder.
  2. The powerful lie constantly about their predations.
  3. The natural instinct of the media is to let the powerful get away with it.

* * *

9) On the time President Lyndon B. Johnson expressed his displeasure to a reporter over a Vietnam piece by defecating on the ground in front of him

From Reporter: A Memoir pages 201-202 — Tom [Wicker] got into the car and the two of them sped off down a dusty dirt road. No words were spoken. After a moment or two, Johnson once again slammed on the brakes, wheeling to a halt near a stand of trees. Leaving the motor running, he climbed out, walked a few dozen feet toward the trees, stopped, pulled down his pants, and defecated, in full view. The President wiped himself with leaves and grass, pulled up his pants, climbed into the car, turned in around, and sped back to the press gathering. Once there, again the brakes were slammed on, and Tom was motioned out. All of this was done without a word being spoken.

..."I knew then," Tom told me, "that the son of a bitch was never going to end the war."

10) On Sy's "most troublesome article" for which his own family received death threats

From Reporter: A Memoir pages 263-264 — The most troublesome article I did, as someone not on the staff of the newspaper, came in June 1986 and dealt with American signals intelligence showing that General Manuel Antonio Noriega, the dictator who ran Panama, had authorized the assassination of a popular political opponent. At the time, Noriega was actively involved in supplying the Reagan administration with what was said to be intelligence on the spread of communism in Central America. Noriega also permitted American military and intelligence units to operate with impunity, in secret, from bases in Panama, and the Americans, in return, looked the other way while the general dealt openly in drugs and arms. The story was published just as Noriega was giving a speech at Harvard University and created embarrassment for him, and for Harvard, along with a very disturbing telephone threat at home, directed not at me but at my family.

Call me Maddie

If you don't follow my activities on Instagram then you might have missed the fact that on last weekend me, my boyfriend and his grandparents went on a spontaneous trip to Prague. I consider myself as person who likes planning (even the smallest details), therefore, the fact that we decided to go to Prague only a few days prior to the planned the departure made a bit stressed. But sometimes the best ideas are the most spontaneous ones, therefore, it did feel really good to let go for once. The trip was hard as we decided to go there by car which meant that we spent around 30 hours (to Prague and back) in car. But the destination was so worth all the hardships. Prague is truly a very lovely city which I would love to visit in a less touristy time of the year since there were thousands and thousands of people all admiring the beauty of the city. Though, what can you expect when you travel to Europe in August when most people have their vacations, right? 😅 You can see more pictures and highlights from this mini trip in my Instagram profile as well as on my Instagram story highlights.

Ja neseko līdzi manam Instagram profilam, tad iespējams nemaz nezināsi, ka pagājušajā nedēļas nogalē kopā ar draugu un viņa vecvecākiem bijām devušies spontānā ceļojumā uz Prāgu. Es esmu liela ceļojumu plānotāju, tādēļ, tas fakts, ka mēs izvēlējāmies doties uz Prāgu vien pāris dienas pirms izbraukšanas, no sākuma iedzina mani vieglā stresā.

Top - c/o Shein
Skirt -  ASOS (very similar)
Espadrilles - ZARA
Hat - H&M
Watch - Daniel Wellington
Bag - eBay

I received so many questions regarding this outfit on Instagram, therefore, I really wanted to showcase it also on my blog and show it fully with all the details. I am wearing a new addition to my wardrobe - a light pink blouse with floral detailing on the shoulders from Shein. When I first saw this blouse I immediately paired it together with my pink ASOS skirt which I think makes the prettiest combination. Even though, the skirt is not available anymore I did manage to find a very similar alternative. I decided to complement the outfit with a panama style hat from H&M, espadrilles from ZARA and a straw bag from eBay. I am truly in love with the espadrilles and straw bag combination, it for sure gives a little "oomph" to my outfit.

* * *

* * *

Trump Ally Roger Stone Pledges to Never Testify Against the President 'Under Any Circumstances' in Bizarre CNN Interview      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Stone faces increasing scrutiny from special counsel Robert Mueller.

Conservative provocateur and longtime President Donald Trump ally Roger Stone spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper Wednesday night in a bizarre interview as special counsel Robert Mueller appears to be ramping up his scrutiny of Stone.

Wearing a cream-colored Panama hat and matching suit with a pinstriped shirt, Stone looked off to the side during the conversation, rather than at the camera as is typical in such interviews. He blinked at an unusually accelerated rate and spoke in a stiff, staccato pattern — far from his typical behavior.

"I have not been contacted by the special counsel's office," he told Cooper. "I've made it abundantly clear that there are no circumstances under which I would testify against the president. I would not rule out cooperating if they think I could be helpful in some area. But beyond that, I have not spoken with them."

Cooper asked about Kristin Davis, known as the "Manhattan Madam," who has been called to testify before a federal grand jury. Stone described her as a friend but said that she would have no knowledge of Russian interference in the 2016 election or his own communications with WikiLeaks, which have raised suspicions given the intelligence community's belief that the organization has Kremlin ties.

Stone expressed enthusiasm for the idea that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange might testify to Congress about the 2016 election. He also took the opportunity to double-down on conspiracy theories that posit that the Russians didn't hack the Democratic National Committee, which the findings of the intelligence community and independent analysts contradict.

"This is a tremendously expensive process to be under the scrutiny of an all-powerful federal prosecutor," Stone said. "I'm being sued by the Democratic National Committee, and in that lawsuit, whether or not the Russians hacked the DNC is a central question. The indictment announced by Mr. Mueller claims that they did, but that's an indictment, not a conviction in a court of law. Mr. Assange would have information regarding this that he might be able to illuminate the American people regarding, so I think his testimony would be a positive thing."

Life is a journey - David Stellini      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
The outcome of the mammoth magisterial inquiry on the Egrant saga should not be taken lightly and lessons must be drawn, not least for the Nationalist Party. We must continue insisting on the full publication of the whole report until it is out for all to read. That much is clear. It is also evident that this is not the endgame. We are not even close to it. This notwithstanding, we can already start reflecting on what was said and done in recent days and ask ourselves whether we acted in good faith, all along, as the Egrant drama unfolded before our eyes. When I say we, I’m referring to all of us Maltese citizens, including journalists and politicians. We must realise that, each and every one of us, through our words and actions, has an impact on the well-being of Maltese society. Are we now acting in the best interest of our communities? Swords were drawn, attacks were launched, tensions flared after the publication of the Panama Papers, and yet, the Prime Minister chose to keep his chief of staff and his tourism minister regardless. This did create a sense of unease in the country despite the economic growth. It did provoke needless accusations and allegations, with some even...

Offshore Support Vessel Services Market Expected to Increase at a CAGR 8.9% Through 2018 to 2026      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

The South East Asia offshore support vessel services market is expected to progressively recover after the oil and gas industry crisis.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/09/2018 -- Persistence Market Research (PMR) has published a new market research report on offshore support vessel services. The report has been titled "Offshore Support Vessel Services Market: Global Industry Analysis 2013 – 2017 and Forecast 2018 – 2026." As one of the important international trades in the world, seaborne transportation is estimated to play a pivotal role in global industrialization and progression, authorizing the transportation of very large volumes of processed and raw materials as well as water, food and other products. As per the data collected from the SAE Europe Shipyards & Maritime Equipment Association, the sea borne trade growth rate is sluggish as compared to the long-term historical average.

A sample of this report is available upon request @ https://www.persistencemarketresearch.com/samples/11302

Global sea-borne trade configuration is estimated to be potentially influenced by planned and current initiatives such as the "One Belt, One Road Initiative", the partnership for quality infrastructure and the expansion of the Panama and Suez Canals. The growing cross border e-commerce and technology advancement coupled with the industrial revolution in developing countries have further reshaped sea-borne trade and maritime trade patterns and in turn will drive global sea-borne trade growth over the forecast period. As a result, leading companies are venturing into partnerships in order to stay competent in the global market. For instance, in September, 2017, M3 Marine Group Pte Ltd. signed a partnership with PT ROV Inspeksi. The main aim of the partnership is to create asset integrity and to enhance their collective capabilities in the offshore marine surveying and inspection arena. The new company offers remote inspection (ariel, underwater and confined space) and inspection services for both onshore and offshore marine projects & assets. Other companies operating in the global offshore support vessel services market are BOURBON Corporation, Vroon Offshore Services Pte Ltd., Pacific Radiance Ltd, Swire Pacific Limited, and Bumi Armada Berhad, among several others.

According to the report, the global offshore support vessel services market is expected to witness a CAGR of 8.9% from 2018 to 2026. The market is expected to touch US$ 11,472.8 Mn by 2018 and further expand to a valuation of US$ 22,746.7 Mn by the end of 2026.

Burgeoning Natural Gas Exploration to Boost Market Development

Over the years, the high level of emission from power industries and automobiles have made it obligatory to find an alternative for conventional fuels, such as coal and other petroleum-based fuels. As a result, several major consumer countries, such as Japan, ASEAN Countries, U.S. and European countries, have shown willingness to adopt natural gas, which is an effective alternative with reduced emission and is also abundant in nature. Countries such as Australia, Qatar, and Norway have increased the export of natural gas considerably. Demand for LNG is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. The global LNG trade was pegged at around 244.8 MT in 2015, an increase of nearly 4.7 MT than that in 2014. Countries such as Egypt, Jordan, Poland and Pakistan entered the LNG import market in 2015. Several new liquefaction and regasification terminals that will accommodate bulk storing and processing facilities are under construction in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas and are expected to start operating during the forecast period.

Labor Constraints Pertaining to Ecology and Technology to Challenge Market Growth

The growing share of ultra-deep offshore oil production will comprise tailor-made projects adapted to site conditions and characteristics of the reservoir. Industrialization and lowering of costs in deep water are big technical challenges. For production vessels and other marine projects, the development of subsea processing is expected to be more complex. Moreover, lots of work to qualify equipment and materials will be required for managing the ecological risks. Shipbuilding companies involved in the offshore sector are required to build quality employment, minimize negative environmental impact and advance the interest of the society as a whole. Moreover, the issue of promoting equity can be addressed with all-inclusive industrial policies and social programs. This would also allow workers to take advantage of the change.

History of the CIA - Part two      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
1968
Operation CHAOS — The CIA has been illegally spying on American citizens since 1959, but with Operation CHAOS, President Johnson dramatically boosts the effort. CIA agents go undercover as student radicals to spy on and disrupt campus organizations protesting the Vietnam War. They are searching for Russian instigators, which they never find. CHAOS will eventually spy on 7,000 individuals and 1,000 organizations.

Bolivia — A CIA-organized military operation captures legendary guerilla Che Guevara. The CIA wants to keep him alive for interrogation, but the Bolivian government executes him to prevent worldwide calls for clemency.

1969
Uruguay — The notorious CIA torturer Dan Mitrione arrives in Uruguay, a country torn with political strife. Whereas right-wing forces previously used torture only as a last resort, Mitrione convinces them to use it as a routine, widespread practice. "The precise pain, in the precise place, in the precise amount, for the desired effect," is his motto. The torture techniques he teaches to the death squads rival the Nazis’. He eventually becomes so feared that revolutionaries will kidnap and murder him a year later.

1970
Cambodia — The CIA overthrows Prince Sahounek, who is highly popular among Cambodians for keeping them out of the Vietnam War. He is replaced by CIA puppet Lon Nol, who immediately throws Cambodian troops into battle. This unpopular move strengthens once minor opposition parties like the Khmer Rouge, which achieves power in 1975 and massacres millions of its own people.

1971
Bolivia — After half a decade of CIA-inspired political turmoil, a CIA-backed military coup overthrows the leftist President Juan Torres. In the next two years, dictator Hugo Banzer will have over 2,000 political opponents arrested without trial, then tortured, raped and executed.

Haiti — "Papa Doc" Duvalier dies, leaving his 19-year old son "Baby Doc" Duvalier the dictator of Haiti. His son continues his bloody reign with full knowledge of the CIA.

1972
The Case-Zablocki Act — Congress passes an act requiring congressional review of executive agreements. In theory, this should make CIA operations more accountable. In fact, it is only marginally effective.

Cambodia — Congress votes to cut off CIA funds for its secret war in Cambodia.
Wagergate Break-in — President Nixon sends in a team of burglars to wiretap Democratic offices at Watergate. The team members have extensive CIA histories, including James McCord, E. Howard Hunt and five of the Cuban burglars. They work for the Committee to Reelect the President (CREEP), which does dirty work like disrupting Democratic campaigns and laundering Nixon’s illegal campaign contributions. CREEP’s activities are funded and organized by another CIA front, the Mullen Company.

1973
Chile — The CIA overthrows and assassinates Salvador Allende, Latin America’s first democratically elected socialist leader. The problems begin when Allende nationalizes American-owned firms in Chile. ITT offers the CIA $1 million for a coup (reportedly refused). The CIA replaces Allende with General Augusto Pinochet, who will torture and murder thousands of his own countrymen in a crackdown on labor leaders and the political left.

CIA begins internal investigations — William Colby, the Deputy Director for Operations, orders all CIA personnel to report any and all illegal activities they know about. This information is later reported to Congress.

Watergate Scandal — The CIA’s main collaborating newspaper in America, The Washington Post, reports Nixon’s crimes long before any other newspaper takes up the subject. The two reporters, Woodward and Bernstein, make almost no mention of the CIA’s many fingerprints all over the scandal. It is later revealed that Woodward was a Naval intelligence briefer to the White House, and knows many important intelligence figures, including General Alexander Haig. His main source, "Deep Throat," is probably one of those.

CIA Director Helms Fired — President Nixon fires CIA Director Richard Helms for failing to help cover up the Watergate scandal. Helms and Nixon have always disliked each other. The new CIA director is William Colby, who is relatively more open to CIA reform.

1974
CHAOS exposed — Pulitzer prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh publishes a story about Operation CHAOS, the domestic surveillance and infiltration of anti-war and civil rights groups in the U.S. The story sparks national outrage.

Angleton fired — Congress holds hearings on the illegal domestic spying efforts of James Jesus Angleton, the CIA’s chief of counterintelligence. His efforts included mail-opening campaigns and secret surveillance of war protesters. The hearings result in his dismissal from the CIA.

House clears CIA in Watergate — The House of Representatives clears the CIA of any complicity in Nixon’s Watergate break-in.

The Hughes Ryan Act — Congress passes an amendment requiring the president to report nonintelligence CIA operations to the relevant congressional committees in a timely fashion.

1975
Australia — The CIA helps topple the democratically elected, left-leaning government of Prime Minister Edward Whitlam. The CIA does this by giving an ultimatum to its Governor-General, John Kerr. Kerr, a longtime CIA collaborator, exercises his constitutional right to dissolve the Whitlam government. The Governor-General is a largely ceremonial position appointed by the Queen; the Prime Minister is democratically elected. The use of this archaic and never-used law stuns the nation.
Angola — Eager to demonstrate American military resolve after its defeat in Vietnam, Henry Kissinger launches a CIA-backed war in Angola. Contrary to Kissinger’s assertions, Angola is a country of little strategic importance and not seriously threatened by communism. The CIA backs the brutal leader of UNITAS, Jonas Savimbi. This polarizes Angolan politics and drives his opponents into the arms of Cuba and the Soviet Union for survival. Congress will cut off funds in 1976, but the CIA is able to run the war off the books until 1984, when funding is legalized again. This entirely pointless war kills over 300,000 Angolans.

"The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence" — Victor Marchetti and John Marks publish this whistle-blowing history of CIA crimes and abuses. Marchetti has spent 14 years in the CIA, eventually becoming an executive assistant to the Deputy Director of Intelligence. Marks has spent five years as an intelligence official in the State Department.

"Inside the Company" — Philip Agee publishes a diary of his life inside the CIA. Agee has worked in covert operations in Latin America during the 60s, and details the crimes in which he took part.
Congress investigates CIA wrong-doing — Public outrage compels Congress to hold hearings on CIA crimes. Senator Frank Church heads the Senate investigation ("The Church Committee"), and Representative Otis Pike heads the House investigation. (Despite a 98 percent incumbency reelection rate, both Church and Pike are defeated in the next elections.) The investigations lead to a number of reforms intended to increase the CIA’s accountability to Congress, including the creation of a standing Senate committee on intelligence. However, the reforms prove ineffective, as the Iran/Contra scandal will show. It turns out the CIA can control, deal with or sidestep Congress with ease.

The Rockefeller Commission — In an attempt to reduce the damage done by the Church Committee, President Ford creates the "Rockefeller Commission" to whitewash CIA history and propose toothless reforms. The commission’s namesake, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, is himself a major CIA figure. Five of the commission’s eight members are also members of the Council on Foreign Relations, a CIA-dominated organization.

1979
Iran — The CIA fails to predict the fall of the Shah of Iran, a longtime CIA puppet, and the rise of Muslim fundamentalists who are furious at the CIA’s backing of SAVAK, the Shah’s bloodthirsty secret police. In revenge, the Muslims take 52 Americans hostage in the U.S. embassy in Tehran.
Afghanistan — The Soviets invade Afghanistan. The CIA immediately begins supplying arms to any faction willing to fight the occupying Soviets. Such indiscriminate arming means that when the Soviets leave Afghanistan, civil war will erupt. Also, fanatical Muslim extremists now possess state-of-the-art weaponry. One of these is Sheik Abdel Rahman, who will become involved in the World Trade Center bombing in New York.

El Salvador — An idealistic group of young military officers, repulsed by the massacre of the poor, overthrows the right-wing government. However, the U.S. compels the inexperienced officers to include many of the old guard in key positions in their new government. Soon, things are back to "normal" — the military government is repressing and killing poor civilian protesters. Many of the young military and civilian reformers, finding themselves powerless, resign in disgust.

Nicaragua — Anastasios Samoza II, the CIA-backed dictator, falls. The Marxist Sandinistas take over government, and they are initially popular because of their commitment to land and anti-poverty reform. Samoza had a murderous and hated personal army called the National Guard. Remnants of the Guard will become the Contras, who fight a CIA-backed guerilla war against the Sandinista government throughout the 1980s.

1980
El Salvador — The Archbishop of San Salvador, Oscar Romero, pleads with President Carter "Christian to Christian" to stop aiding the military government slaughtering his people. Carter refuses. Shortly afterwards, right-wing leader Roberto D’Aubuisson has Romero shot through the heart while saying Mass. The country soon dissolves into civil war, with the peasants in the hills fighting against the military government. The CIA and U.S. Armed Forces supply the government with overwhelming military and intelligence superiority. CIA-trained death squads roam the countryside, committing atrocities like that of El Mazote in 1982, where they massacre between 700 and 1000 men, women and children. By 1992, some 63,000 Salvadorans will be killed.

1981
Iran/Contra Begins — The CIA begins selling arms to Iran at high prices, using the profits to arm the Contras fighting the Sandinista government in Nicaragua. President Reagan vows that the Sandinistas will be "pressured" until "they say ‘uncle.’" The CIA’s Freedom Fighter’s Manual disbursed to the Contras includes instruction on economic sabotage, propaganda, extortion, bribery, blackmail, interrogation, torture, murder and political assassination.

1983
Honduras — The CIA gives Honduran military officers the Human Resource Exploitation Training Manual – 1983, which teaches how to torture people. Honduras’ notorious "Battalion 316" then uses these techniques, with the CIA’s full knowledge, on thousands of leftist dissidents. At least 184 are murdered.

1984
The Boland Amendment — The last of a series of Boland Amendments is passed. These amendments have reduced CIA aid to the Contras; the last one cuts it off completely. However, CIA Director William Casey is already prepared to "hand off" the operation to Colonel Oliver North, who illegally continues supplying the Contras through the CIA’s informal, secret, and self-financing network. This includes "humanitarian aid" donated by Adolph Coors and William Simon, and military aid funded by Iranian arms sales.

1986
Eugene Hasenfus — Nicaragua shoots down a C-123 transport plane carrying military supplies to the Contras. The lone survivor, Eugene Hasenfus, turns out to be a CIA employee, as are the two dead pilots. The airplane belongs to Southern Air Transport, a CIA front. The incident makes a mockery of President Reagan’s claims that the CIA is not illegally arming the Contras.

Iran/Contra Scandal — Although the details have long been known, the Iran/Contra scandal finally captures the media’s attention in 1986. Congress holds hearings, and several key figures (like Oliver North) lie under oath to protect the intelligence community. CIA Director William Casey dies of brain cancer before Congress can question him. All reforms enacted by Congress after the scandal are purely cosmetic.

Haiti — Rising popular revolt in Haiti means that "Baby Doc" Duvalier will remain "President for Life" only if he has a short one. The U.S., which hates instability in a puppet country, flies the despotic Duvalier to the South of France for a comfortable retirement. The CIA then rigs the upcoming elections in favor of another right-wing military strongman. However, violence keeps the country in political turmoil for another four years. The CIA tries to strengthen the military by creating the National Intelligence Service (SIN), which suppresses popular revolt through torture and assassination.

1989
Panama — The U.S. invades Panama to overthrow a dictator of its own making, General Manuel Noriega. Noriega has been on the CIA’s payroll since 1966, and has been transporting drugs with the CIA’s knowledge since 1972. By the late 80s, Noriega’s growing independence and intransigence have angered Washington… so out he goes.

1990
Haiti — Competing against 10 comparatively wealthy candidates, leftist priest Jean-Bertrand Aristide captures 68 percent of the vote. After only eight months in power, however, the CIA-backed military deposes him. More military dictators brutalize the country, as thousands of Haitian refugees escape the turmoil in barely seaworthy boats. As popular opinion calls for Aristide’s return, the CIA begins a disinformation campaign painting the courageous priest as mentally unstable.

1991
The Gulf War — The U.S. liberates Kuwait from Iraq. But Iraq’s dictator, Saddam Hussein, is another creature of the CIA. With U.S. encouragement, Hussein invaded Iran in 1980. During this costly eight-year war, the CIA built up Hussein’s forces with sophisticated arms, intelligence, training and financial backing. This cemented Hussein’s power at home, allowing him to crush the many internal rebellions that erupted from time to time, sometimes with poison gas. It also gave him all the military might he needed to conduct further adventurism — in Kuwait, for example.

The Fall of the Soviet Union — The CIA fails to predict this most important event of the Cold War. This suggests that it has been so busy undermining governments that it hasn’t been doing its primary job: gathering and analyzing information. The fall of the Soviet Union also robs the CIA of its reason for existence: fighting communism. This leads some to accuse the CIA of intentionally failing to predict the downfall of the Soviet Union. Curiously, the intelligence community’s budget is not significantly reduced after the demise of communism.

1992
Economic Espionage — In the years following the end of the Cold War, the CIA is increasingly used for economic espionage. This involves stealing the technological secrets of competing foreign companies and giving them to American ones. Given the CIA’s clear preference for dirty tricks over mere information gathering, the possibility of serious criminal behavior is very great indeed.

1993
Haiti — The chaos in Haiti grows so bad that President Clinton has no choice but to remove the Haitian military dictator, Raoul Cedras, on threat of U.S. invasion. The U.S. occupiers do not arrest Haiti’s military leaders for crimes against humanity, but instead ensure their safety and rich retirements. Aristide is returned to power only after being forced to accept an agenda favorable to the country’s ruling class.

EPILOGUE

In a speech before the CIA celebrating its 50th anniversary, President Clinton said: "By necessity, the American people will never know the full story of your courage."

Clinton’s is a common defense of the CIA: namely, the American people should stop criticizing the CIA because they don’t know what it really does. This, of course, is the heart of the problem in the first place. An agency that is above criticism is also above moral behavior and reform. Its secrecy and lack of accountability allows its corruption to grow unchecked.

Furthermore, Clinton’s statement is simply untrue. The history of the agency is growing painfully clear, especially with the declassification of historical CIA documents. We may not know the details of specific operations, but we do know, quite well, the general behavior of the CIA. These facts began emerging nearly two decades ago at an ever-quickening pace. Today we have a remarkably accurate and consistent picture, repeated in country after country, and verified from countless different directions.

The CIA’s response to this growing knowledge and criticism follows a typical historical pattern. (Indeed, there are remarkable parallels to the Medieval Church’s fight against the Scientific Revolution.) The first journalists and writers to reveal the CIA’s criminal behavior were harassed and censored if they were American writers, and tortured and murdered if they were foreigners. (See Philip Agee’s On the Run for an example of early harassment.) However, over the last two decades the tide of evidence has become overwhelming, and the CIA has found that it does not have enough fingers to plug every hole in the dike. This is especially true in the age of the Internet, where information flows freely among millions of people. Since censorship is impossible, the Agency must now defend itself with apologetics. Clinton’s "Americans will never know" defense is a prime example.

Another common apologetic is that "the world is filled with unsavory characters, and we must deal with them if we are to protect American interests at all." There are two things wrong with this. First, it ignores the fact that the CIA has regularly spurned alliances with defenders of democracy, free speech and human rights, preferring the company of military dictators and tyrants. The CIA had moral options available to them, but did not take them.

Second, this argument begs several questions. The first is: "Which American interests?" The CIA has courted right-wing dictators because they allow wealthy Americans to exploit the country’s cheap labor and resources. But poor and middle-class Americans pay the price whenever they fight the wars that stem from CIA actions, from Vietnam to the Gulf War to Panama. The second begged question is: "Why should American interests come at the expense of other peoples’ human rights?"

The CIA should be abolished, its leadership dismissed and its relevant members tried for crimes against humanity. Our intelligence community should be rebuilt from the ground up, with the goal of collecting and analyzing information. As for covert action, there are two moral options. The first one is to eliminate covert action completely. But this gives jitters to people worried about the Adolf Hitlers of the world. So a second option is that we can place covert action under extensive and true democratic oversight. For example, a bipartisan Congressional Committee of 40 members could review and veto all aspects of CIA operations upon a majority or super-majority vote. Which of these two options is best may be the subject of debate, but one thing is clear: like dictatorship, like monarchy, unaccountable covert operations should die like the dinosaurs they are.

The Day of the Drone Assassin Has Arrived      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

PANAMA CITY, Panama—Unknown forces attempted to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro last Saturday in Caracas. The weapon of choice: a pair of powerful M600 quadcopters, each armed with more than two pounds of C4 explosive, and equipped with remote-control detonators.

The incident marked the first time unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been used to target a head of state. But experts say that weaponized drones are becoming increasingly common—and that it’s only a matter of time before it happens again.

On Saturday afternoon, when the attack occurred, Maduro was giving a speech to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Venezuela’s National Guard. He addressed the assembled troops from an open dais while dressed in a black suit, a presidential sash, and brandishing a ceremonial staff.

PANORAMA DO AVC NO BRASIL

AVANÇOS NO SUS

Watch: Italy uncovers massive load of hash in ship's fuel tanks      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

Italian police said on Thursday they found 20 tonnes of hash worth as much as €200 million in the fuel tanks of a Panama-flagged ship that was stopped in international waters and escorted to Sicily. The entire 11-person crew, all from Montenegro, was arrested for international drugs trafficking, Italy's finance police said in a statement. The research and survey vessel Remus left the Canary Islands bound for Egypt and Turkey, but police surveillance showed it had turned off its position transmitter near the coast of North Africa, raising investigators' suspicions. With the permission of Panamanian authorities, Italian finance police seized the vessel in international waters on July 31 and escorted it to Palermo. There the fuel tanks were drained and the hash was discovered wrapped in sealed brown bags. "The Mediterranean Sea again is confirmed to be one of the world's largest arteries for illegal trafficking," the police statement said. "The results of the operation are the fruit of attentive intelligence gathering and analysis of the ship's routes." The North African hashish - compressed cannabis resin - was probably destined for the European market, police said. Morocco is the...

Copyright 2018 NPR. To see more, visit RACHEL MARTIN, HOST: The Trump name has been chiseled off the front of a luxury hotel in Panama. It's the latest move in an ongoing dispute over management of the oceanfront tower bearing the president's name. The disagreement has recently devolved into physical altercations. And it came to a head yesterday when police escorted the Trump hotel's management team out of the building. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports. CARRIE KAHN, BYLINE: Just hours after Panamanian police officers - some wearing bulletproof vests - removed the Trump managers, a lone worker was out removing the T-R-U-M-P letters off the front of the luxurious tower. (SOUNDBITE OF HAMMERING) KAHN: In a video posted by ABC News, the worker pries off each letter with a crowbar and tosses them, one by one, into a pile on the ground. The dispute over the management of the 70-story tower, which includes a hotel, condos and a casino run by the president's hotel company, has been brewing since last

Costa Rica Adventure - Day 1      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

When I talked Shira into taking three children, two of which keep strict kosher and one of which is diabetic, to Costa Rica for a week you can imagine that I did so with Rose Colored Glasses firmly in place. Consider the full day of travel we'd need to get there. Surely the flight J. was on would land in Boston on time, as would our flight from DC. And of course, the 5+ hour flight from Boston to Panama would be easy thanks to entertainment systems on international flights. The kids would plug in and watch movies for the duration, hardly noticing the time fly by. Heck, they'd probably enjoy the flight more than many of the 'adventures' I had planned for them when we arrived.

And everything did go very smoothly. That is, until we arrived at the gate to board the 5 hour flight to Panama.

Our first hitch was that D.'s insulin pump was mysteriously near-empty. Where had the 40'ish units of insulin he was expected to use over the next two days gone? We did quite a bit of planning for D.'s diabetes, but in the first hour, we found a scenario that wasn't in our playbook. As the rest of the passengers boarded the plan, Shira was on the phone with a diabetic nurse getting instructions on how to refill the pump mid-flight. We were the last to board the plane, and as we walked on I quickly realized another assumption of mine was flawed: we were on an older plane that lacked a modern entertainment system. Yes, they'd show a movie this flight, but they'd do so on overhead screens that the kids were too short to see. As if to fully underscore how naive I had been, we sat on the tarmac for an hour waiting to leave.

When we finally got airborne the pilot got on the intercom and explained that we should expect turbulence for "the entire length of the United States." Uh, we were flying from Boston down past Florida, that would be roughly 1,300 miles of bumpy air. Fortunately, the only person bothered by the bumpy air was me; the kids couldn't have cared less. Though it did delay meal service for another couple of hours, as the flight attendants weren't able to get up and deliver food.

The kids managed through the flight without issue. Many a game of iPad chess was played, and D. got some lessons from J. as to how to use the DS. I got some high quality Scratch Jr. time in with J., showing him how to use message passing to have objects in a scene communicate. Once T. and I figured out a way to keep the cards from sliding off our tray tables, we played a number of rounds of crazy 8's. Shira refilled D's pump like a pro.

Of course we landed late in Panama, and were the last to board the 90 minute flight to San Jose. And of course when we arrived in San Jose, one of our 4 bags was missing. The airlines knew where the bag was and would deliver it to La Fortuna the next day, so that wasn't an issue. But Shira and I weren't excited about having spend another 20 minutes waiting and line to fill out paperwork when it was already after 10 pm (after midnight back in the States). Fortunately, the kids managed to hold it together playing in a cleverly crafted luggage fort.

When we finally got to the hotel, and they explained that they didn't have the adjoining rooms we'd arranged for, it almost felt appropriate. Of course the hotel would be part of this everything-must-be-inconvenient travel day.

As we tucked 3 exhausted children into bed on foreign soil, I couldn't help but see the bright side of our rough day. We'd shown that even if things didn't go as planned, we'd be OK. What better way to sharpen our skills then running the gauntlet? Still, as I drifted off to bed, I couldn't help but wish for a day that was just a tad bit less challenging.

San Diego Billionaire’s Plan for Balboa Park Back in Court      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
San Diego billionaire and Qualcomm co-founder Irwin Jacob's $80 million plan for Balboa Park - the so-call Plaza de Panama make-over - is back in court after being stalled for months. Actually it went back to court, Monday, July 30, or at least part of it did, as one of the two current lawsuits against the Jacob-backed plan went before a judge. The one back in court involved a suit filed by attorney Cory Briggs on behalf of San Diegans for Open Government. It challenges the city of San Diego's use of bonds to financially support the city's share of the then $78 million make-over, and contends the City Council should have sought voter approval before deciding to issue bonds to pay for the city's share. The second case was filed by Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO) and now it awaits a state Court of Appeal hearing. SOHO appealed the earlier Superior Court ruling that favored the city,

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t5pdZIayxoQ/W2cd4MBA80I/AAAAAAAAAMk/awjyEIQPd4sjMMFq4tRcEmXc9u2Ul7A8QCLcBGAs/s640/merlin_138478581_d07d0c53-5be3-4bab-932b-84731e6d7b38-superJumbo.jpg

https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2_tyGREJcD0/W2isDbzPLTI/AAAAAAAAAP8/U14qkiSK9YAeXVI3aqH4uyQBQ_7dpbf_QCLcBGAs/s640/merlin_141806403_7f10a1ff-9bf2-4881-a6d0-39882dfc8e38-superJumbo.jpg

Comment on State Production on Terry FOIA Lawsuit Leaves Key Questions Unanswered by Patrol Agent      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
I have always questioned why Kevin O’Reilly got a pass from testifying before Rep. Issa committee? The White House rushed him off to Baghdad on some special mission and said he wasn’t available. My theory is that O’Reilly and others in the White House came up with the original plan to do Fast & Furious. O’Reilly had served in an overseas assignment with the former special agent in charge of the Phoenix ATF Office. He knew the guy was hungry for advancement, so they targeted him to spearhead the operation. They picked the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) , a major crime fighting component of the DoJ, to sanction and fund Fast and Furious. The OCDETF program had to directors spanning the beginning and end of the operation. I always was suspicious as to why Rep. Issa never had them come before his committee. Wouldn’t seem natural to have them testify to how F&F was approved, and produce the required written proposal for the operation.Unless Rep. Issa was being controlled by Deep State and they wanted to protect these two men. Both of them still live and work as attorneys in the Washington metropolitan area. One was the former Deputy U.S.Attorney for D.C. during Obama’s term.O’Reilly last I checked was the number two at the U.S Embassy in Panama. In addition to the required written proposal, the OCDETF Guidlines have a section on “sensitive issues,” among them is running an investigation that is international in scope. Certainly F&F would have considered sensitive, in that they intended to allow guns to be smuggled across an international border. So if Hillary was briefed on F&F before the DoJ approval, who made the decision to not tell her, and at what level of the Obama administration? Why didn’t we hear anything about Hillary being outraged at DoJ for going around her, if you believe she didn’t know before hand.Oh, and the OCDETF has nine member federal law enforcement agencies that should have each been briefed on F&F prior to the proposal going up to D.C. for a final review and approval? So how could former FBI Director Muller not have known about F&F?
