Last fortnight’s visit to Brussels, London and Helsinki by the US President Donald Trump has opened up the deep fissures in the Western alliance even though that had for almost eight decades maintained a hegemonic presence on international politics. While it would be easy to see this in light of larger schema of an overall acknowledgement that the locus of international politics is shifting from its Eurocentric location to an entirely new kind of ‘Concert of Asia’ with China, India and on account of its Eurasian land mass, Russia. This time of transition is naturally causing a degree of international disorder only exacerbated by a deep crisis in the Western version of capitalist economic structure that is now seriously wobbly.

We know that organising the ‘anarchic world,’ as Thomas Hobbs considered the human character constituting it, to be, was often the desire ever since the modern nation-states were formed in the post-Westphalian world, though the real efforts began long after. The process of building this international order had begun with the creation of the League of Nations. Woodrow Wilson, then US president had in the wake of the World War I proposed its formation, along with the Treaty of Versailles, signed and sealed to end the war.

But it began unravelling itself by 1931 when Japan attacked Mongolia and the League could not intervene. Sensing the storm clouds of another World War gathering on the horizon, the League decided to convene a Conference of Disarmament. But Hitler’s Germany withdrew from the CD and the League in 1933. That was more or less the death-knell of the first attempt at establishing an international order based on rules and norms that were to be inviolate.

This current international order was established on the basis of the idea of the United Nations again proposed by another US president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and a prime minister of the UK, Winston Churchill right in 1941 when they promulgated their peace aims in the ‘Atlantic Charter.’ The nations that signed UN Declaration of 1 January, 1942, were four: the USA, the UK, the USSR and China. Then followed the next batch: the other members of the Allied coalition ranged against the three Axis powers, Germany, Italy and Japan.

As we know the success of the UN can be measured in times of the Cold War for averting any globe girdling war that could have turned into mass annihilation resulting from nuclear exchanges. However, the global organisation of now 193 nations could not stop the smaller proxy wars between the two superpowers, having their interests being supreme in the apex Security Council where they enjoyed the veto right.

But despite most importantly, the combustible European continent, which had triggered the two WWs, had peace for more than 70 years, till Yugoslavia dissolved into redrawn maps and the old animosities of race and religion erupted in 1990s.

Having said that, after the financial meltdown of the 2008 and its concomitant severe economic downturn has given rise to a sharp backlash against what was termed ‘globalisation.’ This globalisation had caused jobs to migrate from the high wage Western hemisphere, to the East. And the ease of transferring financial capital engendered by the new rules that were originally framed with the desire to tie the post- Cold War world in one, singular giant business complex, has seen the flight of capital from low returns developed economies to the developing economies. But what has caused this current global upsurge of nationalistic protectionism that seeks to undo the much touted ‘globalisation?’

This explanandum requires a look at the Gini Index of economic inequality, and the physical manifestations of the severe inequality between the rich and the poor, in the form of ‘Occupy’ movement and the general atmosphere of popular unrest that is for the time being seeking solace in a severe withdrawal symptom of sorts by which the populations of the developed world are choosing ultra-nationalistic right wing political formations to lead them. This is reminiscent of the in 1930s Europe — especially in the nations that were the vanquished. Brexit is a giant example of this phenomenon where the thin shred of political sanity is holding the country together from not going down in flames. The rise of Donald Trump in the USA is a similar phenomenon, where the noblesse oblige of the old liberal elite is being supremely rejected.

This turmoil in the so-called developed societies is creating tensions across the globe at multiple levels. On top of that is the competition for global primacy between the superpower, the economic superpower and the former superpower that has gained a semblance of stability, seeking to reclaim its old position in the comity of nations. This is necessitating a reordering of the world that is more inclusive of the newly emerged powerful nation-states of the former South. A democratisation of the institutions like the UN system and the Bretton Woods system and the like is an urgent requirement. The sooner it happens the better it is.

Blueprint News Celebrates 250 000 Visitors      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

The registration of visitor statistics for "blueprint news" started in May 2010 and reported about 250.000 visitors in August 2018. Here are some numbers that remain incomplete, however, because only the leading 10 visitor nations are given, together with information about browsers and systems applied by visitors. Some rare browsers that came to my attention during the years are not included in the overall statistics as they present only a low number of visitors i.e. < 1%. Same goes with the computer systems where the list is too long to integrate it entirely into the following chart, and there are, as well, some visitors who withhold part of the Information. An increasing trend to data anonymization makes it even more difficult to collect visitor data.

Overall visitor statistics for August 8, 2018.

However, more important than mere numbers should be the following choice of highlights of visitor activity during all those years and which might give an idea of the global acceptance my rather tiny blog achieved.

Visitor Highlights

Chinese visitors coming from River Yangtse and from Hangzhou, both places being
near to Shanghai. A closer look on the satellite images provides interesting features.

The former Portuguese colony of Macao which is now a part of PR China. Two
long bridges, connecting the main parts of Macao, might attract your attention.

Living the Chinese Dream

Economic prosperity and military strength are integral parts of China's global dream. While
facing maritime disputes with other nations, China is enforcing a modernization of its navy.

Japan and North Korea

One visitor came from the diplomatic quarters of Tokyo (above) and which is near to
the Imperial Palace. Another visitor called from Ground Zero in Hiroshima where the
first atomic bomb had been dopped in 1945.

Earlier this year Japanese authorities launched a missile alert via Japan National TV
when a North Korean test missile was heading toward Japanese territory. As tensions
with North Korea were high at the time, I was just watching Japanese news on satellite
TV. I immediately took a photo from my TV screen and posted it. My blogspot was then
available on the internet while the North Korean missile was still in the air over Japan !

One of the rare visitors from North Korea is indicating he came from the Ryugyong
neighbourhood in Pyongyang and which is not far away from the central compound
of North Korea's ruling Workers Party. The internet access point, however, remains
difficult to localize in this case.

In August 2017 two US military bases on Guam were threatened by North Korea which said
it would create an "enveloping fire" around the US territory using four Hwasong-12 missiles
that should detonate 30-40 km off the island. The US side made clear this would mean war.

Nuclear Research

The CERN Institute in Geneva, Switzerland, is operating the greatest particle accelerator
ever built. It was there that a predicted elementary entity, the Higgs boson, was detected
for the first time.

The center for nuclear research in Dubna is situated in the neighbourhood of
Moscow, Russia. In Soviet times it was the most important facility of its kind.

Washington and Israel

No, it's not at all a call from the President but rather from a
public hotspot facing the White House in Washington DC :

In the hustle of the 2016 pre-election times I simply forgot to publish the below picture.
Sorry for that ! The picture can be named "Grabber King at the Chicago Trump Tower".

The US Department of State noticed my translation of a political poem originally written by
Guenter Grass, one German laureate of the Nobel Price for Literature. It's all about Israeli
militarism directed against Arab neighbours (i.e. their Semitic brethren...) and against Iran.

In the week after the author's death, my translation
of his poem was addressed by different US visitors :

US - Iranian Enmity

The National Defense University NDU in Washington DC, a US government institution,
visited a blogspot of mine and which is dealing with a scenario of mutual threats that
has steadily developed between Iran and the USA.

All

All of Central Asia and the Middle East
is under control of The Empire.
Well, not entirely ..........

An Iranian visitor enjoyed, as well, my visualization of the conflict.

One visitor coming from the faculty of law at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, made
a Google search by simply entering the timeless adage of justice to be found above the
entrance of a Cairo law court, and found ..... my blogspot about decisive battles in Syria.
What an amazing coincidence !

After the ousting of Libyan dictator Muammar al-Ghadafi, a visitor called from some
internet access point nearby to Martyrs Square in Tripoli, the former capital of Libya.
It is on Martyrs Square that a shrine was established for the heroes of the revolution.

A "postcard" from the holy places of Makkah in Saudi-Arabia :

In August 2014 Islamic fighters were threatening Kurdish residents in the
Kirkuk region of Northern Iraq. People fled into the nearby mountaineous
area while Islamists headed further to Mosul. After the fall of Mosul, the
Islamist leader al-Baghdadi declared his caliphate in the great mosque
of Mosul.

Visitors coming from Northern Pakistan took immediate interest in the Iraqi developments.
They came from Islamabad, its southern environment, from Quetta and Peshawar (below).

Mongolia - Chingis Khan and the "Art of War"

A smiling Mogolian leader once presented his Mongolian horsemen to US president Bush.
When a Mongol horde invaded and destroyed the Caliphate of Baghdad in 1258, they left
a gigantic regional chaos similar to what did the US Cavalry under US president Bush. The
difference, however, is: The Mongol horde robbed what they could carry on horseback and
returned home, while the US sat and waited as oil wells cannot be so easily carried away.

Other "cold warriors" can be found on Elmendorf Air Base in Alaska, USA, .....

..... while some people are peacefully fighting the cold in an Inuit community on Greenland :

The "University of the South Pacific" on the lonesome island of Fiji, however, is a real "hotspot".
No wonder they provide a swimming pool needed to cool off the heated brains of young folks.

In comparison, the "Harvard Business School" in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, might make a point with a better reputation.

Comment on Brexit and Copyright: An Update on the Road to D-Day by David Collier-Brown      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache
Looking at this from the point of view of a philosopher, it is an interesting real-world "experiment" in removing and then recreating borders. When Britain and the UK were part of the EU, one part of copyright changed significantly: one did not have per-country trade barriers applying to books and broadcast. The pre-EU regime had effective shipping and translations barriers to prevent commercial book dealing, and publishers took good advantage of that. My own publisher, O'Reilly, made separate deals for French, German and Polish translations, and had those copies printed in Europe. The EU changed all that. For certain publishers, significantly for the worse. Broadcast was harder: Radio waves are no respecters of borders, and have a reasonable range. I could listen to WBZ in Boston, Mass from Chatham, Ontario. "Community antenna television" mutated into cable, however, and recreated geographical controls. Again, the destruction of borders by the EU changed all that. Internet was harder still. If you were willing to watch, listen and write in the language where postings originated, you could communicate as if borders no longer existed. The copyright breach of a "screener" in Los Angeles was no longer just a concern in the US, it was a loss of income from that move word-wide. As you noted above, the EU enabled communications via the Online Content Portability Regulation/, /making /legal/ multicast and broadcast communications border-free. Now the EU is headed away from the EU. English-speaking publishers probably won't notice: most of the borders in their business model these days are ones of language. Setting up a branch office and a printing contract in Ulan Bator isn't hard: translating to Outer Mongolian (is there even such a language?) is harder. The visible difference will be in broadcast and multicast media. Britain and the EU created a good simulation of a borderless regime in the content portability regulations, which are no more. Everyday internet continues to flow as it did before, mostly subject to the recipient being able to understand the language of the speaker. The contradiction between the last two will be something to watch. If a Brit in Spain wants to read the BBC website, there is no border, and leaving the EU has no effect.  If our Brit, however, wants to their UK Netflix, That just changed.  Will Spain allow him to use a VPN back to England, or will they call for their own "great firewall of china" to make British broadcasters negotiate tariffs with them? Borders and translation created for us the phrase "May you live in exciting times, and come to the attention of the mighty". Changing borders may make that apply once more to Britain and the UK.

Pembagian Grup Basket Putra

Grup A: Korsel, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thailand

Grup B: Iran, Filipina, Siria, Uni Emirat Arab

Grup C: Jepang, Qatar, Taiwan, Hong Kong

9 paid iPhone apps you can download for free on August 9th      Cache   Translate Page   Web Page Cache

We were too busy to round up yesterday's best paid iPhone and iPad apps on sale for free, so we did some extra digging on Thursday and came up with nine great new options. Just make sure you download them all as soon as you can because these sales could end at any time.

This post covers paid iPhone and iPad apps that have been made available for free for a limited time by their developers. BGR is not affiliated with any developers. There is no way to tell how long they will be free. These sales could end an hour from now or a week from now — obviously, the only thing we can guarantee is that they were free at the time this post was written. If you click on a link and see a price listed next to an app instead of the word “get,” it is no longer free. The sale has ended. If you download the app anyway, you will be charged by Apple. Subscribe to our feed to be notified as soon as these posts are published, and you’ll avoid missing the sales we cover.
