|Sen. Hatch: Trump Wants Supreme Court To Uphold Constitution, Stop Playing Politics Cache Translate Page Web Page Cache|| Sen, Orrin Hatch, ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee discusses what he thinks the president is looking for in his selection of a new Supreme Court Justice.
"The Democrats now are so upset that the Republicans have this opportunity to appoint nominees to the court that they make every doggone appointment a cause celebre, tht's the way they do it," he said.
"I think the president really wants somebody who is going to uphold the constitution and stand behind those laws and quit playing politics with the Supreme Court. And I think, I think when he gets through this evening most people will be very pleased with his choice."
"I think any of those four will get through the process," he said about the top four nominees reported in the press. "One or more of them may have a more difficult time, but I think that the Republican party is going to be behind whoever it is and I hope there will be some honest Democrats who will go beyond politics and recognize the achievements of whoever the president picks." |
|Flower power at Kew Gardens: Perennial borders and rose garden Cache Translate Page Web Page Cache|
My indulgent family and I took the Tube to Kew Gardens (officially, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) while in London last month. I could easily have spent the whole day there, but we had only about 4 or 5 hours, so I had to pick and choose among the various gardens and hope we didn’t miss anything spectacular. Speaking of spectacular, the Great Broad Walk Borders made for a gorgeous start to our explorations. Only two years old, this long, colorful double border studded with pyramidal yews draws you along a promenade between the Palm House, one of two grand glasshouses, and the Orangery. In mid-June, swaths of purple-flowering perennials mingled with green foliage, punctuated with jolts of yellow and red. A collection of magnificent trees lines the border and keeps the eye from wandering. The white Orangery building, which houses a restaurant, peeks over ‘Rozanne’ geranium, allium, and Jerusalem sage. Allium looks like purple sparklers. Even more so when it goes to seed. Each plant is arranged in a ribbon that arcs through the bed, creating distinct color blocks. The colors were vibrant on this cloudy day. I wasn’t the only one photographing. Also, I adore those clipped yew pyramids. […]

Susan, the post author, recommends inserting some "milkshake-style" straws into the centers to add a little extra support if you're going any higher than three tiers. The 9" x 13" should be ok, if you're able to put a parchment paper sling into your baking sheet to easily lift the cake out once it's cool that will help things. Annabelle@KAF|
|A review from a satisfied client Cache Translate Page Web Page Cache||Before I hired Mr. Kolken I was working with another Immigration Law Firm that claims to have been around for decades with the best Immigration attorneys in the country. It was a major disappointment at all levels from incompetence to ignorance of some Immigration Laws to messing up my application (missing and erroneous information) to showing up 20 minutes late to the USCIS interview appointment. As a consequence of their missteps, incompetence and disorganization I received a several pages long RFE from USCIS. After they reviewed the RFE the told me that my case is desperate now. That was when I decided to fire them. After firing the first law firm, I did interview eleven Immigration attorneys from across the country including Mr. Kolken at the cost of hundreds of Dollars. Of all of them Mr. Kolken stood out as the honest straightforward attorney who explained to me the path forward to resolving my issues and the risks involved. I decided to hire Mr. Kolken. My experience with…|

|PFBC Board of Commissioners Installs New Officers, Increases Fees, Endorses Revenue Enhancements, and Makes Property Acquisitions Cache Translate Page Web Page Cache|
Commissioners acted on numerous revenue enhancements brought forward by staff designed to counter declines in traditional revenue and escalating costs associated with current programs. Collectively, these revenue enhancements are projected to raise $1.2 million annually beginning in Fiscal Year 2018-19. These enhancements include, the introduction of four voluntary permits: a habitat conservation improvement permit, a muskie permit, a wild trout and enhanced waters permit, and a bass permit. The Commission also approved the establishment of a cover price for the annual Summary of Fishing Regulations and Laws publication, and a Property Use and Entrance Permit, for those members of the public not holding a valid fishing license, launch permit or boat registration.
Commissioners also voted to approve proposed rulemaking to increase permit fees for Scientific Collectors’ Permits and permit fees for Triploid Grass Carp, Snapping Turtles, Venomous Snakes and Organized Reptile and Amphibian Hunts. These proposed increases in permit fees are in line with U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI) tool that is based on annual inflation rates. Proposed increases are from $5 to $30 depending on the permit. Some of these permits have not been increased since 2008.
The Board also approved increases in seasonal mooring slip fees at Walnut Creek Marina. Rates for some boats at the marina were last increased in 2011, with all other boats last impacted in 2009. Beginning in 2019, slip rates for boats 23 feet in length and less will be $775 annually, and slip rates for boats greater than 23 feet in length will be $1050. The Commission will publish these rate changes as a notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
Additionally, the Board was briefed on the Executive Director’s intent to increase the fee for Commission-issued launch permits, beginning in January 1, 2019, to bring the fee in alignment with those assessed by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
In other official action today, the Board voted to authorize a grant to North East Township in Erie County for the development of an ADA accessible fishing pier, acquire several easements and sell or dispose of two small parcels of property for highway and bridge related improvements at locations across the Commonwealth. Most notably, was the acquisition of an easement on 4,960 linear feet of stream along Sevenmile Creek as it flows across a parcel of property in Harborcreek Township, Erie County for $105,000. Funding for this project was generated from the sale of permits to fish Lake Erie and its tributaries. This action will open more public access to an area of Sevenmile Creek that provides significant steelhead fishing opportunities.
In other action, Commissioners approved the designation of five stream sections to the Commission’s list of Class A wild trout streams. These additions will go into effect upon publication of a second notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin. A list can be found on the PFBC website.
Also, the board approved the addition of 99 new waters to the Commission’s list of wild trout streams and revised the section limit of one water. These additions will go into effect upon the publication of a second notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin. The list of these waters can be found on the PFBC website.
In Armstrong County, Commissioners approved the raising of the horsepower restriction on Keystone Lake to 20 horsepower. This change will go into effect upon publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
In Clarion County, the board approved a Slow No Wake (SNW) zone for Redbank Creek. The creek traditionally had been treated as a SNW zone without an official designation. This change will go into effect upon publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
The Commission also approved an amendment to regulations pertaining to exemptions from license requirements, to meet current requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). This amendment will go into effect upon publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
A complete copy of today’s agenda is available on the PFBC website.
