Royal Pains TV Pilot – Black Cards in the Hamptons

I was out in the Hamptons this past weekend and saw the van for Royal Pains out and about. If you haven’t seen it already USA has a new series that starts this Thursday at 10PM EST titled Royal Pains. Royal Pains is about a doctor “Hank Lawson” (played by Marc Feuerstein) who was fired from his position and against his judgment becomes a “concierge doctor” for the rich.

In the show pilot, the writers wasted no time on black card references, the son of the heir to family that invented the blender (Tucker Bryant) wrecks his Dad’s Ferrari and is injured. After some emergency care, Tucker needs transport to a hospital, “[Tucker Bryant] The Hamptons heritage no way man, Dad calls it the local cemetery. [Hank Lawson] What would your Dad suggest we do? [Tucker Bryant] Go into my wallet and get the little black card that says American Express on it.” Tucker is then taken by helicopter to Mount Sinai in Manhattan. Not All Billionaire Cards Are Black

Two weeks ago Gawker reported on actress Salma Hayek’s hacked e-mail account, which revealed details on her personal life. Salma Hayek is currently married to born billionaire François-Henri Pinault. Details of the e-mail revealed included her American Express Gold Card Replacement. Gawker editors even note that it’s not the “Centurion Card.” Having a gold card, does not disqualify or mean that she does not have a Centurion Card, because American Express will let you have both if you want (in the US you will have to pay fees for both cards). Marketing research by American Express Departures Magazine has shown that the Rich & Famous seek out unique life experiences and value in their credit cards. But the real question is, if your Salma Hayek or Chuck Bass, do you really need a Credit Card? Seemingly yes, but any unique experience or value a credit card could offer, would certainly be easier to obtain via your own team of assistants. So although most Billionaires (all 792 of them) don’t fly commercial, but they still need credit time to time.

According to a Forbes report in March, the list of billionaires, e.g. those with net worth >= $1 billion, is down to 793 people (that’s 30% less than last year).

AMEX Credit Card Was Originally Purple Paper Not Black Titanium

Paper, Plastic, Titanium, and Carbon Graphite?

Credit cards had existed prior to American Express, namely Diners Club (which was actually a paper or cardboard card that was in circulation).

The first AMEX credit card was actually introduced October 1, 1958 – American Express introduced travel-and-entertainment charge card (The original card was actually paper printed with purple ink to resemble Travelers Cheques)

The first plastic American Express appeared in the early 1960s, while their adoption had become increased as vendors found traditional AMEX booklets too difficult to manage. It was because of this that well received the new plastic cards, which used charge plate machines, thereby making transaction and record keeping easier and less error prone.

Plastic cards became dominant and remained the main player, however, it was not until 1966 that the common credit card came to, when Bank of America established BankAmerica Service Corporation to franchise the BankAmericard which then became known as “Visa“, still not black). Mastercard, originally Mastercharge, came to be in 1966 in addition, where both Visa and Mastercard credit cards were open-loop (inter-bank), and American Express was closed-loop (intrabank).

American Express took the lead again in 2004 in some parts of Europe, and in 2006 in the United States by changing their elusive BLACK CARD (formally known as the Centurion Card), to a hand crafted titanium card to replace it’s plastic ancestor. Times as changed, this isn’t your grandfather’s “purple cardboard,” although American Express Charter Members (Members since 1958) do get some special privileges.

2008 of course brought the “Visa Black Card“, made from Carbon Fiber. The Wikipedia editors, however, did neglect to include credit cards in applications of carbon fiber (we’re kidding): “The properties of carbon fiber such as high tensile strength, low weight, and low thermal expansion make it very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, and motorsports, along with other competition sports.”

We’ll stick with black hand hammered titanium for now, someone update Wikipedia.

Seth Tobias (April 8, 1963 – September 4, 2007) was an American hedge fund manager and financial commentator who made frequent appearances on the CNBC television programs Squawk Box and Kudlow & Company. He graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Finance.

He was the president of Circle T Partners, a company he founded in 1996 after working for five years as portfolio manager and equity trader at JRO Associate.

Tobias’ body was discovered in the swimming pool of his Florida home; the cause of death has not yet been officially disclosed. The details of his death were widely reported in The New York Times in a major article on December 4, 2007. They included accusations of drug use, bisexual dalliances with a go-go boy and gay porn star named Lexx Parker (pictured below), and murder. Tobias’ wife was a suspect for his murder and his two brothers were left as beneficiaries to his disputed will.

Jim Cramer was actually Tobias’ boss at Goldman Sachs and was quoted as saying, with true cheesy and offkey Kramer style, “I don’t know why this hasn’t ended up on CSI Miami yet.”

To go with all the scandal in Tobias’ life, the man made, and spent, millions of dollars a year. Outstanding expenses at the time of his death included $52,532 on his Black Card, and his mortgage payment for one of his homes was $35,000 a month.

Nerd Alert! The Black Card Is Used in Anime TV Show Lupin III

Lupin III (?????, Rupan Sansei) began as a Japanese manga (comic) series written and illustrated by Kazuhiko Kato under the artist handle of “Monkey Punch.” The storyline focuses on a gang of thieves led by Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief of Maurice Leblanc’s series of novels. Lupin and his gang travel throughout the world to steal treasures and escape from the law. Phew, okay, glad we’ve gotten all that settled!

At any rate, the first Lupin III manga appeared in “Weekly Manga Action,” a series magazine, beginning on 10 August 1967. This led to the creation of a media franchise that includes numerous manga comics, a handful of animated TV shows, feature films, direct-to-video releases, TV specials, music CDs, video games, and a musical. Finally, WhiteLight Entertainment, a production company owned by Gerald R. Molen, purchased the live action theatrical rights to Lupin III in 2003 and the Hollywood production is scheduled to be released in 2009.

So what does any of this have to do with The Black Card you might be asking? Maybe you’re antsy for me to get to the point. Well, if I still haven’t lost you by now: on one of the Lupin III TV episodes, a character reserved her $8,000.00 a night suite at the Waldorf Astoria (pic below). Even Anime, although considered adult cartoons, has been infected. This is not only another example of Black AMEX in popular culture, but goes to show that the AMEX has gone global with the Black AMEX as a status symbol.

Even James Bond Can’t Decide White VISA or Black AMEX

In the 2006 film Casino Royale, James Bond walks into The Ocean Club (an exclusive Bahamian resort), goes to the concierge, requests a room without a reservation, and simply hands the concierge a black credit card. We have little doubt this is the Centurion card he hands over. But how things change, here is a photo from the Omega Exhibition held recently, does this mean we will not see our beloved black card in the new movie?

Behind the Design with Kris Templeton

The Estates at Lone Mountain is redefining luxury living in Las Vegas. “I used to ride my dirt bike to Lone Mountain,” he remembers. “I first learned to shoot guns behind Lone Mountain. It was our destination for fun on the weekends.”

The second-generation developer learned the business under the guidance of his father, Ken Templeton. “I’ve worked with my dad my whole life,” he says. “So to come full circle now… building again, father and son playing with dirt, we’re having a blast. We really love it.”

The family legacy is reflected in their work. Years ago, the elder Templeton named a street inside Tuscan Ridge after his son (Christopher Lee Circle). Now, the tradition continues with Kris Templeton naming a street at the Estates at Lone Mountain after his own son (Brooks Cameron Court).

“To me, it’s about family, the opportunities my father’s given me and how I live them out following in his footsteps,” he says.

It’s been a long journey to reach this point. Templeton, who started his very own tree trimming business in high school, joined his father’s company in 2006, managing and selling a portfolio in excess of $400 million of land, hotels and office buildings in 10 states before working his way up to executive vice president.

It took more than three years of transactions with private owners and the Bureau of Land Management to acquire the land for the Estates at Lone Mountain. About 30 acres is actively in development, including all-new infrastructure, with the remaining property reserved for two additional phases.

The first homes at The Estates are now complete and showcase bold and inventive designs by top Las Vegas architects. Owners are also welcome to buy lots and commission their own custom homes. Any style is fair game. It’s all about flexibility with room for pools, tennis courts, casitas and lavish backyards.

“We wanted to flip the script and do something unique out here,” says Templeton.

3 Ways to Protect the Identity of a Star Athlete when Buying a Luxury Home

Protecting your privacy as a celebrity athlete

Celebrities and professional athletes value their privacy, knowing there is always someone out there eager to take advantage of their wealth and assets. For a famous name in the spotlight, there is nothing more important than protecting their home, family and personal information.

As the founder and broker of Luxury Estates International — and the exclusive Las Vegas representative for SportStar Relocation — I work with athletes and other high-value clients on a daily basis. I was responsible for the most expensive home sale of 2017 and the second-most expensive home sale of 2018 in the Las Vegas market — both to professional athletes — as well as the second-most expensive home sale of 2020.

When coordinating property transactions for noteworthy and newsworthy clients, discretion is extremely important. That’s why I’d like to share three of the most overlooked and underutilized ways to protect the identity of a high-profile buyer when making a luxury home purchase.

Failure to take these suggestions into account can not only sacrifice privacy and security, but may also become costly mistakes that are hard to rectify.

1. Don’t take title in your name

A home sale always leads to new public records. For example, when a property closes in Las Vegas, the deed is recorded with Clark County. Anyone can get a copy of that deed and see who the owner may be. If your name is on there, a person will know your address and have valuable information about your home as soon as the day after closing. There are lots of people who want to know who’s buying high-dollar homes. Don’t think they’re not paying attention.

Fortunately, there’s an effective way to get around that problem. Consider taking title as an LLC (limited liability company) and making the manager of it a trust in which your identity is kept private. Unlike a home deed, the trust is a private document. No one has to know you’re the trustee or beneficiary managing the LLC.

2. Take advantage of non-disclosure agreements

Have an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) or similar confidentiality agreement attached to every aspect of a home purchase. Require everyone to sign it. That includes the appraiser, home inspector, all Realtors and anyone else involved in the sale.

Even though a housing transaction is a personal matter to the buyer, it’s business to almost everyone else, including loyal members of your inner circle. Don’t take any chances. A person is less likely to brag online, supply a blind item to a publication or share information around the office if they know it could lead to a lawsuit over breaking an NDA.

3. Think twice about social media posts

This is a big one. As tempting as it may be, don’t post photos and video of your property all over Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other form of social media. This is especially true a day or two after your home closes. Star athletes and other famous clients are typically buying custom homes with distinguishing characteristics and easily recognizable features. It’s not hard to identify noteworthy homes. All it takes is one or two people to figure it out and word travels fast.

If someone has access to the MLS or even just clicks on a site like Zillow, they can easily narrow a home search down by the dollar amount. By browsing the $4-5 million range for example, it’s pretty easy to match up a few photos to a recent home listing. Suddenly, a stranger knows your address, community and even lot location on a map. If this happens, you’ll instantly regret posting anything to your social media accounts, regardless of how much you’d like to show the new place off.

The fourth floor offers a luxury take on game-day viewing with a wall lined with six televisions and refrigerated drawers on standby for a quick refreshment. The spacious gourmet kitchen on the second floor is designed with both style and convenience in mind with three islands, two double Wolf ovens, two Sub-Zero refrigerators and an outdoor patio with a Lynx grill and pizza oven.

Step outside and walk across to the regulation-size half-basketball court with an electronic scoreboard, locker room and garage-style doors that open up for fresh air. It sits alongside a full tennis court and desert garden, reflecting the Huhn family’s love for sports and the outdoors. “We’re avid walkers,” says Mike. “We see mountain sheep, we see rabbits. There’s a lot of wildlife here.”

The third structure can be considered an expanded take on a casita. In addition to a bedroom and living room, there’s also a fitness center and rooftop skydeck with a grill, wet bar, fireplace and lounge furniture. Overall, the property covers more than 15,000 square feet and has two 3-car garages. The basketball court could potentially be converted into yet another garage holding eight to ten cars.

Sitting on more than two acres, the estate represents ingenuity and ambition without sacrificing home comfort. A stunning example of modern architecture, beauty and luxury in one complete package.

Behind the Design – Michael Gardner

Building a custom home can be a complicated process that involves many different players. Not everyone sees eye-to-eye and the priorities of an architect can often conflict with those of an interior designer or a landscaping planner. However, with studio g ARCHITECTURE, everything operates in perfect synergy.

“We take a holistic approach to design,” says founder Michael Gardner. “The process is property line to property line.” Everything is done under one umbrella with a team of in-house professionals and managed consultants. “Our clients only have to worry about working with us,” says Gardner. “We manage all the pieces for them.”

The company began small, building two to three homes a year during a period when the luxury market was shifting away from Mediterranean-style homes in favor of a more contemporary style. Gardner found success based on a word-of-mouth reputation, eventually taking on commercial work as well. Now his reputation is spreading throughout the country. Current projects include a high-rise in Nashville and the renovation of a historic New Orleans building into a boutique hotel.

Custom homes remain about half of the company’s workload and Gardner sees tremendous potential in character-rich “Old Vegas” neighborhoods near Downtown. He was recently selected by the National Association of Home Builders to design and construct the 2019 New American Remodel. The project will redevelop a 1950s ranch house on Pinto Lane with a mix of modern, traditional and unconventional design elements.

In a process he calls “responsible design,” Gardner is retaining part of the home’s exterior walls while adding a complementary two-story structure. The finished product will feature ambient daylight, clean lines and a full turnaround driveaway that makes full use of a large 1.3-acre lot. “This property is going to have an orchard. It’s going to have chickens. It’s going to be in a certain sense, sustainable.”

The New American Remodel is expected to be certified for numerous green initiatives and will officially debut at the NAHB International Builders’ Show in February 2019. But Gardner is also hoping the property will help kick off a new era of home design in a historic but somewhat neglected Las Vegas neighborhood. Ultimately, he says it’s important to leave a mark on the community — to make it a better place for the generations that follow.

“Architects are always looking for importance in their work. Even if it’s just a little thumbprint that we can leave on changing the mentality of Las Vegas, I chalk it up to a great success.”

As the most acclaimed golf instructor in the country, Butch Harmon has helped shape the skills of Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Greg Norman and other championship caliber talent over the years. He even spent time as the personal instructor for the king of Morocco. A Las Vegas resident since 1997, the former PGA pro now runs the Butch Harmon School of Golf at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Seven Hills. Harmon is also a broadcaster and author with several books to his name and a regular column in Golf Digest. He served in the army during Vietnam and founded the Harmon’s Heroes Foundation to help disabled veterans and military families. With his heart clearly entrenched in the community, Butch Harmon opens up to Luxury Estates International about living in Las Vegas, his love of golf and the one thing most players forget to do.

LEI: Why did you move to Las Vegas?
Harmon: It was the perfect situation. I approached Rio Secco with the idea of doing a high-end quality school on a smaller scale. There were great golf schools at the resorts, but they were too big. Everybody was just a number. We wanted to do something more personal and Las Vegas was the perfect place to do it. People come to Vegas to spend money. We figured we’d give them a great experience of fun and learning during the day — and then they’d have the city at night to do whatever they like to do. It’s worked out perfectly.

You’ve counted Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson among your students. Those are some big names. Is there anything those two have in common that helps make them exceptional students?
I think when you look at Tiger Woods, he was the best player in the world the 10 years I was with him. He worked harder than everyone. He had a tremendous God-given talent but he made himself better and better. Dustin Johnson is the number-one player in the world now. I never thought I’d see another one who resembled Tiger Woods, but D.J. is starting to get that way with his dominance and intimidation factor.

In addition to Rio Secco, what are some of your other favorite courses in Las Vegas?
I really like Cascata and Shadow Creek. I’ve only played the new Discovery property once — The Summit — but it’s a nice place. They’re doing a great job out there. The vistas are beautiful. The service is wonderful. They’ve sold a tremendous amount of real estate up there.

Living here for more than 20 years, you’ve seen a lot of growth. How has Las Vegas changed as a golf community?
When I first started coming here in the late 60s, there wasn’t a lot of golf. Then Las Vegas almost overbuilt golf courses. Some had to close, which is too bad. Now we have a tremendous variety of high-end courses and others at price points where everybody can afford to play the game. That’s the way it should be.

What are the advantages of living in a golf course community like Anthem Country Club?
It’s nice for me. Anthem Country Club is only five minutes away from where I work at Rio Secco. It’s a great development. We got in on the ground level and built our first house here in ‘99. It’s a family-oriented gated community with a nice golf course and a great environment.

Aside from golf, what do you like to do for fun around town?
I’m a sports junkie. I’ve been a season ticket holder for UNLV basketball for 15 or 16 years. We go to concerts. We’re big George Strait fans. George is a good friend of mine, so whenever he comes to town, we try to see his show and hang out with him. We’ve seen all the Cirque du Soleil shows. I think “O” is the best. We’ve seen it five times because we like to take friends when they visit.

Before we wrap up… any quick advice for golfers looking to improve their game?
One of the hardest things for golfers to do is leave their egos in the car when they show up at the course. Everybody thinks they’re better than they are. Understand your own game and what you’re not good at. That’s what you need to work on. A lot of golfers only want to practice what they’re good at.

Jewel Opens Up About the Vegas Music Scene and Giving Back

The music and life story of Jewel is being featured in One Night for One Drop, an annual charity production by Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. “The crew is just incredible,” says the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter. “It’s a herculean effort these people are putting forth.”

The show takes place on March 2 at the Michael Jackson ONE Theater inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The event benefits One Drop, a nonprofit foundation created by Cirque founder Guy Laliberte to promote access to safe water. The goals of the organization resonate deeply with Jewel, who founded her own charity Project Clean Water to follow a similar mission.

“I’ve put wells in 35 different countries since 1997,” she tells Luxury Estates International. “It’s important to help people understand how valuable water is and have some kind of connection to it. So hopefully, this will raise awareness.” Born in Alaska, Jewel grew up having to haul water out of a creek, an experience that made her appreciate its value. “I know how heavy it is,” she says.

One Night for One Drop features the best of Cirque du Soleil’s Las Vegas performers on one stage, including dancers, acrobats and aerial artists. A central character will represent Jewel in a story based on the singer’s own real life journey — and yes, Jewel herself will also play a role. “They’re sort of calling me an ethereal guide throughout the performance,” she explains. “I’ll be singing as well and reciting poetry to help bring us from passage to passage.”

Jewel has been deeply involved in local philanthropic endeavors since purchasing a home in Lake Las Vegas. Over the past year, she’s volunteered her time and talent to the Nevada Ballet Theatre, St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation and the Vegas Cares benefit for the victims of the October 1, 2017 shooting.

“What you see on TV of Las Vegas is ‘Sin City,’ but I think anybody who gives it any thought knows it’s made up of people,” says Jewel “It’s a tight-knit community that really does look out for one another.”

Behind the Design of The Summit Masterpiece: Cascade

I was commissioned to design Cascade in late 2015, following a meeting with the client and general contractor. This unlikely pairing of commercial-focused professionals proved to be an incredibly powerful way to approach a residential project. We could offer a more solid home, longevity of structure and speed of construction in one complete package. The framing, made entirely of steel, was complete in just two months.

We titled the project Cascade since our intent was to have the structure visually merge with the landscape and expand in all directions from the natural topography with Strip, mountain and golf course views. The home is divided into two main areas with a 100-foot-long horizontal canopy creating a distinctive threshold between them. It passes through the main living space and continues another 17 feet over the south end of the pool. Weathering steel, blackened steel and custom- treated metallic bronze were carefully threaded into the project to contrast with the brighter slightly-textured stucco surfaces. Local stone was quarried in Jean, the only place on the planet where this particular material is available.

Cascade is actually Victorian in many ways, a period in which each space had a distinct purpose. Our premise was to create something that had the timeless qualities of all great architecture. But what are those? In my opinion, it’s an intangible quality – a feeling. The home is similar to how one would experience the desert while hiking through Red Rock canyon – with striking materials punctuating the colors as dramatic shadowing and blades of light enhance the experiential qualities of the space.

The desert is a place of delicate balance. We are creating a home that embraces the site and accentuates the beauty of place through connection to nature. The home shapes views to our landscape, our city and the community. The balance – enhanced.

We wanted to be sure that a home this large was as ecologically sensitive as possible. The home was carefully studied in several energy modeling programs, which helped influence where we put the windows and where we wanted more shadow and mass. Amazingly, the home has the opportunity to be a NET-ZERO home. The project team is exploring the installation of a solar panel array that would effectively remove the home from the ‘grid’. When we are afforded this incredible opportunity for design – it is also important that we are stewards of the environment. Our first hope is for the home to be cherished by the client and their family. Our second hope is to be part of a positive continuum that builds on previous work and influences future design at all scales.

To be one of the first projects to move forward in the Summit is both an honor and very exciting for us. It is an incredibly beautiful community and a great group of people to work with. Their vision and approach will allow for a unique yet comfortable luxury development that is truly unmatched here in Las Vegas. I am excited to see the community take shape with a wide variety of custom homes – and of course, we are eager to design the next one!

Summerlin President Discusses New Developments

Kevin Orrock sees himself as a “conductor” behind the scenes, managing an elite operation that’s driving growth in the Las Vegas Valley west of the Strip. As the president of Summerlin®, Orrock oversees land development activities in the master-planned community for The Howard Hughes Corporation®. He shares his thoughts with Luxury Estates International about the success that’s being achieved so far – as well as the plans and possibilities that lie ahead.

The Ridges

“If you look at The Ridges, it’s almost like a sanctuary,” says Orrock. As one of the most exclusive villages in Summerlin, The Ridges is nestled against the gorgeous scenery of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area with views of the Las Vegas Strip to the east. “I actually think the western views are almost better than those of the Strip,” adds Orrock. “It’s just a great place to live. It has a three-mile loop road and is gated on both sides. You see people jogging and biking. They’re always outdoors. The golf course, Bear’s Best, is probably one of the nicest public courses in Southern Nevada.”

The Summit

“We’re averaging $3.1 million per lot. It’s very exclusive.” Orrock says The Summit has been in the works for a long time. It just needed the right partner – which turned out to be Discovery Land Company. “Nobody does it better than Discovery,” he says. “In fact, the Summerlin and Discovery brands were made for each other. We’re both best in class.”

Discovery, known for exotic retreats and golf courses in resort destinations like Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas and El Dorado in Los Cabos, Mexico, is bringing its unique character and elite amenities to Las Vegas and chose Summerlin as the place to make it happen. “Every lot is designed to have a view,” adds Orrock. “Strip views, mountain views – or both!”

Vegas Golden Knights Practice Facility

The NHL expansion team will play its home games on the Strip at the T-Mobile Arena, but will practice in Downtown Summerlin at a brand new facility currently under construction. It will include the team’s offices and be open to the public as well. “It’s an amenity for all of Southern Nevada,” says Orrock. “If there’s one thing this community lacks, it’s ice time. The adult leagues have an especially difficult time finding ice. Some of them are playing at midnight.”

The facility will help solve that problem with two state-of-the-art ice rinks. “One of those rinks will be solely dedicated for public use.” Orrock also says there will be a spacious restaurant inside overlooking both sheets of ice. “It’s a tremendous facility. We’re very pleased we were able to get the hockey team here in Summerlin. It’s fantastic.”

Future Development

Summerlin still has more than 6,000 acres of undeveloped land, including south of The Summit and in the far northwest in areas that reach 4,000 feet above sea level. “There’s a lot of topography over there,” explains Orrock. “And if you get around that ridgeline, you don’t even know you’re in Las Vegas.”

“Summerlin has nearly 30 neighborhoods open right now,” he said. “If you go back five or six years, we had fewer than ten. That shows how far we’ve come out of the recession. We have another five neighborhoods that will open this year. So we could easily end the year with 35 neighborhoods actively selling – from one end of the community to the other.”

Downtown Summerlin has room to expand as well, including plans for the addition of about 4,000 residential units in the area. “There can be anything from brownstones to mid-rise or high-rise types of product. And there could be residential-over-retail. It’s what the market will bear. We’re flexible. That’s what makes community building so exciting.”

As the president and founder of SportStar Relocation, Ed Kaminsky has made it his business to find homes for athletes and other sports professionals moving across the country. His conversation with LEI Broker/Founder Kamran Zand, Chief Marketing Officer Leah Vigil and Copywriter Rob Kachelriess covered plenty of ground, from his days as a criminal defense lawyer to serving three terms as Las Vegas Mayor and his current role today representing the city as Host Committee Chairman for the LVCVA. Using Cinema to Showcase Luxury Homes

Under the leadership of Broker/Founder Kamran Zand, Luxury Estates International (LEI) has built a reputation for using the latest technology to showcase luxury real estate properties. One tool in the company’s arsenal is the ability to custom craft cinematic-style videos in-house to exhibit not only the features of a home, but the lifestyle it represents. When it came time to list a uniquely lavish home at 1504 MacDonald Ranch Drive, LEI team knew the bar had to be set even higher.

“We wanted to make this our best video to date,” says LEI Director of Sales & Business Development Michael Zelina, who is also the listing agent for the home. “The property has so much in it, the hard part was trying to fit everything into a three minute video.”

The home known as Moon Crest Estate had already seen some valuable camera time when declared the “World’s Best Party Room” on HGTV. It’s a true palace of indulgence with a motion-seating movie theater, bowling alley, dance floor, golf simulator, video game arcade, wine room, full bar and infinity-edge swimming pool among its many features. “It’s one of the most incredible homes I’ve seen,” says Zand.

The idea was to produce a high-energy video that would eclipse not only the segment that aired on HGTV, but anything LEI had done before. A high-energy dance track was licensed to serve as the musical backdrop for the video, while telling a story about how a group of girlfriends come home after a long day, lounge by the pool, enjoy the home’s many features and then wind down at night by the firepit with a glass of wine.

In addition to the actors needed for the shoot, the crew consisted of four camera operators providing aerial, motion, still and behind-the-scenes photography. Using a drone camera was especially important to capture the scale and scope of the championship golf course that sits below the home as well as what Zelina calls “the lowest, closest unobstructed view of the Strip” in the Las Vegas Valley. “We wanted perfect weather with perfect clouds,” he says. “This was a three-week process of scheduling and canceling appointments to get the perfect lighting conditions” The editing process alone took two weeks, making sure everything was right, from the graphics to how each shot matched up to the music. “I think the video pushed the limits of what can be done in Las Vegas,” adds Zelina. “This is a great way to be a step ahead of the market.”

Inside Look into LEI Headquarters

From the moment a guest walks through the front door of Luxury Estates International (LEI) headquarters in Las Vegas, it’s clear the office space is much like the company itself: sleek, stylish and contemporary. In much the same way LEI puts time and care into marketing and selling luxury real estate listings, well-placed attention is given to planning and maintaining the ideal work environment.

The office makes an immediate impact with a bold reception desk that mixes light and dark tones within a modern design. It welcomes visitors near a pair of conference rooms, surrounded by tall glass doors and framed with large video monitors. The rest of the workspace unfolds with a comfortable open floorplan with accent walls, Bocci light fixtures and custom designs by Stikwood.

Cutting-edge brands are front and center, with furniture provided by Herman Miller and Ligne Roset. A playful sense of fun can be found with three oversize chairs by Lovesac, offering a jumbo spin on the familiar beanbag concept with Durafoam-filling that spreads evenly, retains its shape and may be the most comfortable thing you’ve ever dropped your body upon.

The artwork that hangs on the walls also sports a playful mix of style and attitude. Much of it by Elena Bulatova, a Russian-born artist with a Las Vegas gallery at CityCenter. Pieces include her signature lollipop sculptures and Star Wars characters recreated over newsprint. Her partner, Efi Mashiah, is responsible for a pair of displays showing an industrial-style LEI logo in metal screws and a 3D paint brush design that appears to show the wall folding onto itself with the power of a single stroke. Recreations of classic Las Vegas imagery can be seen in the work of Jerry Misko in the marketing office and a powerful green painting in the reception area was provided by Sheridee Hopper of Macsual Studio.

The buzz has become reality. NFL team owners made their voices heard this week, voting overwhelmingly in favor of approving plans to move the Raiders from Oakland to Las Vegas. Luxury Estates International Hosts Wine Tour Fundraiser at Mandarin Oriental

Is there a better combination than food, wine and gorgeous real estate? Kamran Zand and Luxury Estates International (LEI) hosted a “Wine with a View” celebration at the Mandarin Oriental Friday evening, showcasing residential high-rise homes on the Las Vegas Strip. The invitation-only gathering was the perfect opportunity to tour six stunning units while sipping on wine and cocktails. Avocado toast, shrimp cocktail and other delicious bites were served up by Honey Salt while Hexx provided amazing single-origin chocolates and desserts. Pianist Grant Peacock kept everyone entertained with music throughout the evening.

Guests began the night by taking an elevator to a residence on the 43rd floor and made their way to other units on different levels, guided by volunteers from UNLV. Along the way, they soaked in spectacular views of Las Vegas through floor-to-ceiling windows while checking out the modern furnishings and designs that make the Mandarin Oriental one of the most desired places to call home on the Strip.

The event was also a successful fundraiser for Opportunity Village, raising more than $1,000 in raffle tickets alone for the nonprofit whose mission is to help those with mental disabilities and their families. Prizes included behind-the-glass tickets for an upcoming NHL game with the Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena and contemporary artwork by artist Elena Bulatova. With the neon glow of the Strip behind him, Kamran announced the winners and thanked everyone for attending.

Guests took lots of photos and mingled well into the night. Each one left with a gift bag and some added perspective about the role of LEI in the Las Vegas community. Plans are already in the works for another big event to showcase luxury real estate while helping a great cause in a lively social setting. Expect details to be announced soon.

High-Price Penthouses at Mandarin Oriental

More than 200 attended an education appreciation celebration at the exquisite Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas in February. Hosted by the College of Southern Nevada, Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, as well as our own broker Kamran Zand of Luxury Estates International, high fashion, high design, and luxury high-rise living formed the centerpiece of the event.

Guests were introduced to three exclusive new luxury penthouses, each custom-built and designed by designers Pedram Rahimi and Tina Hague, also in attendance. All began as empty “gray shell” units with barren concrete walls, cement flooring and nothing but windows looking out onto the Strip down below. After extensive construction work, each of the three condo units were embellished with the finest luxury upgrades, details and fixtures worthy of a multi-million dollar celebrity’s seal of approval.

One of the penthouses has been listed by broker Kamran Zand, appropriately named “No. 4307” for its upper-floor location. The condominium features two bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a dining room, living room, floor-to-ceiling wireless motion blackout and sheer shades, a multicolor indirect lighting system, home automation system, white porcelain flooring, stainless steel baseboards, spa-like bathrooms and a kitchen with Brazilian Copa Cabana granite on a steel-framed island.

Shortly after the event No. 4307 received multiple offers, including one for $2,167,000. This amounts to $1,000 per square foot. The offer was accepted on February 19 and its sale is pending.
