I was so excited to get into the book. However, when I started the course and did the test to see my words per minute, it was nothing to brag about. The author suggests reading consistently on your own without the training book for a while to build your reading speed faster naturally. I chose to read on my own without the book for six months. I came up with six months because I knew I was going to be extrememly busy, and knew I coudn’t dedicate an hour a day until late August. If you get this book, I suggest not to wait as long as I did, and read on to see why! During these six months I read nine very awesome books in subjects that I wanted to learn and improve on and made me fall in love with reading more!

Six months to the date, I came back to the Rapid Reading book and did the test again and it showed that my reading had improved dramatically! My words per minute and my comprehension went up! I just finished day two of the workbook and guess what......I improved even more!

If you are not good at something, don’t NOT do it. I encourage you to figure out a way that you CAN do it. So many people quit before even trying. When you remember my story, consider not only how long I took before I got back to this Rapid Reading book, but also what I did during the six months that I waited to re start it. I read and practiced on my own. I am very determined to be a rapid reader, so I can read many books to learn more, grow as a person, and bring more value to friends, family, clients and the market place!

Find a reason why you would want to become a rapid reader or look at anything you have been putting off and go out and start right now! Heck, do what I did: make a video, post in on youtube to be accountable, and tweet me so I can give you a shout out for your decision to Better YOUR Best!
2013/09/become-rapid-reader.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Jeremy Wright)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-159570731594867123.post-4734189729505441286Tue, 03 Sep 2013 03:00:00 +00002013-09-02T20:06:04.172-07:002013 USANA conventionjeremy wrightjeremy wright life2013 Convention Recap

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="318" src="; width="320" />

My GF Vanessa and I learning and hanging with Millionaire in the company Mr and Mrs Aaron Dinh

I recently went to my company's annual convention, and it was one of the most motivating yet humbling experiences to date. August 2013 – The 52 Rivers Blog Dancing with Nymphs Thu, 29 Aug 2013 00:25:46 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Wannabe Mountain Woman /wannabe-mountain-woman/ /wannabe-mountain-woman/#comments Thu, 29 Aug 2013 00:25:46 +0000 Nature is truly the best landscaper I know. On our last day on the river, I took a moment to take in my surroundings. Our campsite sported Ponderosa Pines, the scent of the sun on the granitic soil, colomia and white syringa flowers, the high, thin whistle of Cedar Waxwings and views of the bent-winged, white-bellied ospreys competing with us for fish. (Actually we are no competition.) We covered many miles of the river looking for the best way down precipitous hillsides. Mike bounced down the banks as I calculated each step taking as much precaution as I could not to fall – ah – the difference of a decade of life. We fished within sight of each so we could offer a thumbs up when seeing a tight line. On this second day, I had few tight lines – just couldn’t nail down that right combination of fly, cast, drift and set. That’s the ongoing discussion of fly-fishers – the mystery of it all – even for the most experienced. The hoppers that worked the first day didn’t seem to interest the fish on the second. Towards the end of the day, we tried out our most successful spot from the first day, but not so much – for me – this time. And, it honestly didn’t matter. The flight back to Picabo took us to a few other landing strips. Mike wanted to show me a few other spots where we could have camped and fished and I was glad to hang out in the wilderness a little longer. The most interesting landing strip was Soldier’s bar, which is only 1000 feet long with a dogleg and a couple of bumps. I’m glad I didn’t know that going in because I may have missed the spectacular views. I think I could have been a mountain woman. /wannabe-mountain-woman/feed/ 1 John Huber – Picabo, ID /john-huber-picabo-id/ /john-huber-picabo-id/#comments Wed, 28 Aug 2013 22:19:47 +0000 I talk a lot about serendipity. I love the word and somehow or another I find myself engulfed by it. John Huber, Picabo, ID, the Little Wood River and Silver Creek were all unknowns and unplanned for up until a few weeks ago. John is the manager of Picabo Angler in Picabo, ID and he guided me on the Little Wood River and Silver Creek during my month in Idaho. John and his head guide, Nick Price, have more than 20 years of experience guiding in central Idaho on the Salmon River, the Little and Big Wood Rivers, the Lost River, Silver Creek and all its tributaries. As is mentioned on the Picabo Anglers website, Pee-Ka-Boo means “shining waters” and this was certainly true of Silver Creek where John and I used a float tube to make our way down the middle of the river and fish to the banks. John’s hope for Picabo Anglers is to “bring the tradition back home” meaning that he is hopeful that anglers will see the benefit of using an outfitter whose backyard is Silver Creek. An Oregonian at heart, but an Idahoan in soul, John is yet another Renaissance man in the world of fly-fishing. He originally studied Marine Biology in college before graduating with a degree in English. He is a writer, photographer, business man, angler and community builder. His book on Oregon rivers, Flyfishers Guide to Oregon is one of the great Oregon fly-fishing guide books. There are few guides that I hook up with (pun intended) more than once. John is one of those guides who knows his stuff, is fun, has a strong sense of self, and is concerned about his environment and community. What a great couple of days! Small two engine planes dropped off all the gear as well as rafters in the early mornings. It was an unusual wake-up call for a wilderness area. One of the more interesting stories concerns the sweep boats whose picture is highlighted in this post. These boats are unique to the Middle Fork of the Salmon and were originally constructed of wood. Pioneers floated them down the river and then took them apart to use the wood as cabins – thus the “river of no return.” There are no oars or other means of propulsion on these boats except the sweep blades, which also serve as tillers. When I saw them I imagined myself back on a river over a hundred years ago. The stream was remarkably clear and thus the depth was deceptive. We found ourselves waist deep in several spots and had not yet reached our ideal wading spot. We used the full gamut of fishing options including hoppers, dry flies, streamers, and nymphs. We were probably most successful with hoppers and then streamers. The nymphs brought in a little fish 6 inches and smaller. These fish behaved as if they had never had the unfortunate experience of being held captive for a few minutes. I took off my nymphs after catching a few too many of these small frys. On the first day we reached the river early enough in the morning to be quite successful. The river is known for its beautiful cutthroats, and we caught several of them although few bigger than 15 inches. I also got a few rainbows on the first day and Mike caught a small Kokanee salmon. At midday, the fishing shut down as the temperature reached into the 90’s. We headed downriver to hike up a tributary known as Indian Creek to see what we could find. On the way we ran into a group of rafters who shared their lunch and stories with us. A family with friends getting together to celebrate a 70th birthday. I’m always a bit envious of families who choose an adventure like this to celebrate. In my family, we always headed to the city. So much more to relate, but take a look at this video of a family rafting trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon – it will definitely get your juices going. I began fishing as most kids do – with a dad, uncle or grandfather. I started with a spin cast pole and a can of worms. Flash forward many years later when I signed up for a five-week course on fly-fishing at a local community college and fell in love with the sport. The two course instructors were veteran anglers and master casters and they created environments that allowed all of us newbies to learn the sport while eliminating the “intimidation factor”. After this course I was hooked on the sport and in love with all trout. After fishing for a few years I grew tired of wearing men’s shirts that offered little functionality and zero fit for a woman so I decided to do something about it and that something is Damsel Street. Damsel Street has brought all of a woman’s outdoor, technical shirt needs together and provides an innovative and streamlined solution. Damsel Street is focused on providing women’s outdoor technical apparel specifically for fly fishing, but our apparel is not limited to that sport. The need for women’s apparel is prevalent in many sports such as hiking, hunting, and backpacking. We provide the perfect blend between fashion and function. Having a passion for the outdoors and living that lifestyle means being exposed to the elements. Clothing needs to be taken as seriously as any other piece of equipment that a women uses and having the right equipment makes all the difference while playing in the elements. Damsel Street…. Marianne, Annie and Penny came up to Idaho Falls from Salt Lake City and Heber City to spend the weekend with me and go fishing. We headed up to Warm River and both Marianne and Annie caught some beautiful brook trout. (Don’t ask me how I did:-) We got some well-needed rain today and thus squeezed (and I do mean squeezed) into the thirteen-foot SCAMP to eat a delicious Mexican dinner that Annie prepared. The camper was in the shop for another bad wheel bearing. The Jeep’s radiator blew up and I was delayed getting to Picabo to catch my flight to the Middle Fork of the Salmon. My computer was hacked so I couldn’t get any posting done. But none of that really mattered as I was flying up to the Middle Fork of the Salmon to fish. My husband has flown a small plane for years and I have refused to fly with him, but for some reason, this felt different. Sorry Florian. Something just seemed right about this whole deal, and in fact my intuition served me well once again. Mike Hart is one ace pilot. I really wasn’t afraid at all of flying and in fact loved having the view and freedom that the plane offered us. We headed up to Indian Creek landing strip, a spot that can only be reached by plane, foot, or horseback. How cool is it that it only took us an hour to get there? The smoke from the forest fires west and south of us was thick and intimidating. The view of the Sawtooth Mountains to the west of us was almost completed obliterated by smoke but our destination point was relatively clear. As we flew towards the landing strip, it was obvious that this is not the first time that fire threatened this area. The burned trees in this photo were from a fire thirteen years ago. I can honestly say that I hardly knew we had landed. Mike put us down so gently that I became an immediate convert to small plane travel (of course it helped that we had a bluebird day and flew in the morning.) What a grand entrance to an amazing weekend. And then the fishing began…. /flying-like-a-bird/feed/ 3 An Outlier /an-outlier/ /an-outlier/#comments Wed, 21 Aug 2013 04:35:16 +0000 For Mike Hart, rivers are central to his life. As he states, “I have always had this magnetic attraction to rivers.” Among his many talents, Mike is a back country pilot and really good. Mike is not a fishing guide, but he sure was a great fishing partner. When we met for the first time at the Picabo, ID landing strip, thanks to guide, Leslie Dal Lago, I casually mentioned that I had never flown in a small plane. Mike explained a few basics and off we went to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness area. I soon learned the language of flight with discussion about IFRs and TFRs and IMC and throttles and yaw. He explained wind shears and “thermals” and the resulting turbulence. He also took me through six take offs and landings including Soldier’s Bar, quite the tricky approach. I almost forgot that I was supposed to be focused on fly-fishing! As a geologist, astronomer and environmental scientist, Mike had plenty of information to share. Plus, he was a great fishing partner. These 3 days will live in my memory for a long time to come. Many thanks, Mike. /an-outlier/feed/ 4 Time for Reflection /time-for-reflection/ /time-for-reflection/#comments Wed, 21 Aug 2013 01:11:59 +0000 As the end of summer rapidly approaches, I am taking some time to get caught up on my research and writing at a campground in Idaho Falls. What would have been my dad’s 93rd birthday just passed and I can’t help thinking about him and the amazing gift he has given me that allows this journey of a lifetime. The weather in Colorado is something to brag about regularly, but yesterday was unbelievable. Sunshine, blue skies and 61 degrees. The heck with the sportsmen show – I headed up to the S. Platte at Deckers. The first of my 52 rivers a year ago was the same river. It was quite a bit colder last year, but with guide, Fred Gray, we caught more than my share of fish. It was then I learned about sight (or is it site?) fishing and not wasting my time casting blindly without knowing whether or not there was a fish to catch. It was not until my fourth river that I had purchased my camera and lenses for the trip and so my photos for the first three rivers was not of high enough quality. I now find myself in the envious position of having to revisit those first three rivers. January 19, 2014. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ve found it difficult to both fish and take photos and so I was determined that yesterday was going to be just about photography. However, as soon as I got riverside I had to at least make a few casts. I didn’t bring my waders so I was limited with what I could do, and that was a good thing. My photos did end up taking precedence. I shouldn’t have been surprised to see the number of anglers in the river, but I was. With the Broncos playing today (HURRAY FOR THE BRONCOS!) I imagine the river was relatively empty today. It was wonderful to be back on the river. I don’t think I’m ever going to get them out of my blood. /fly-fishing-january/feed/ 0 Looking Forward /looking-forward/ /looking-forward/#comments Fri, 10 Jan 2014 07:07:20 +0000 The Smith River in Montana was the 38th river on my itinerary. Had I been able to float this river, it would have been like a grand finale a few months early because it was a five-day river trip on one of the most beautiful rivers in Montana – and Montana has some pretty nice rivers. As it turns out, the drought made this river not fishable at the time I had scheduled. I spoke with guide, Joe Sotherby (photo) and decided that I had no other choice but to postpone my trip until 2014. I was disappointed at the time but now that my year has ended – and oh so quickly – I now have something to look forward. And so in June, I get to try and match my trip with one of the Golden Stonefly hatches – a hatch I have yet to experience. Many people ask me what it feels like to be at the end of my “epic” journey. I must say I have mixed feelings, but there’s always something to look forward to, new people to meet, new places to visit, and new aspects of a passion to discover. I’m excited about 2014. Looking forward to meeting up with you, Joe and company. /looking-forward/feed/ 1 Angler, Author, Artist /angler-author-artist/ /angler-author-artist/#comments Fri, 10 Jan 2014 06:36:49 +0000 I met Steve Schweitzer at the Denver Fly-Fishing Show two years ago. Steve is the author of Fly Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park, a great guide to the Park. Steve self-published his book and has passed on all his knowledge as I move forward with self-publishing my book. I had a publisher who was interested in my book but after several conversations with several fly-fishing authors, I decided that I would lose too much control over my content. My story falls into several categories of writing – part travel log, part essay, part storytelling. Time will tell whether or not I can pull this off. In the end, what a luxury it is that I have the opportunity to try. I need to thank Steve in large part for this chance. /angler-author-artist/feed/ 1 Fly-Fishing and Art /fly-fishing-art/ /fly-fishing-art/#comments Fri, 10 Jan 2014 05:56:26 +0000 January 9, 2014. This beautiful piece of artwork by Josh Udesen was one among many at the Denver Fly Fishing show. Visit Josh’s website to find out more about Tight Line Studio. There were lots of other creative people at the show, from artists to fly-tyers. When I first started planning my 52 rivers trip I envisioned myself in my camper every evening tying flies. As I developed my photography skills throughout the year, I ended up spending most of my evenings editing photographs instead. Fly-tying had to wait another year. What I love about tying flies is the fact that they can be both utilitarian and fanciful. You can take an old standard fly and make it as artistic as you want or vary it just a bit to comply with your fishing needs. Some of the best fly-tyers come to the Denver Fly-Fishing Show. I’ve met quite a few fly-tyers through my friends Pat and Carol Oglesby who are intimately involved with the Pro Team at Whiting Farms, producer of some of the most valued dry hackle used for tying flies. Some of the fly-tyers included Steve Schweitzer, Tim Jacobs, Stephen Johnson, and Mary Armstrong. As soon as I finish writing my book, I am going to try to squeeze in time in between my fishing and photography to enjoy fly-tying. /fly-fishing-art/feed/ 1
