The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."</p><p>Clearly Putin did not give this quote much consideration before he launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in March of 2022. &nbsp; He did not realize that Russia would incur the enormous casualties that they have sustained. &nbsp; He did not predict the death of at least five Russian generals and one admiral. &nbsp; He did not predict the desertion of Russian troops on Russian territory. &nbsp; He saw only smooth sailing when huge storm clouds loomed. &nbsp; He did not foresee that Zelenski would emerge as a global champion of freedom. &nbsp; He did not seem to foresee that his attacks on civilian targets would mobilize the sane world in opposition to his aggression.</p><p>Though modern media likes to focus on what happened only in the last two minutes, History <b>does</b> provide some insight into the current situation in Ukraine. <b>&nbsp; There has been a long historic track record of Russian ineptitude in bilateral military actions...</b></p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="193" data-original-width="261" height="296" src="; width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Battle of Tsushima<br />May 27-28, 1905</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b><br /></b><p></p><p>1) The Japanese humiliated Tsarist Russia in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-5. &nbsp;Port Arthur was captured by the Japanese and the Russian fleet, which had sailed around the world from Europe, was annihilated at the Battle of Tsushima. &nbsp;President Teddy Roosevelt earned a Nobel prize for mediating the peace between Russia and Japan (Biden take note!).</p><p>2) In 1940 Stalin's Soviet Union invaded Finland hoping for a walkover. Instead he got a bloody nose losing over 120,000 lives along the Mannerheim line. &nbsp;Adolph Hitler, based partly on this war, assumed that the Soviet Union was a broken nation. &nbsp; The intrepid correspondent Virginia Cowles (See earlier blog...<a href=";)&nbsp;traveled to Finland and wrote this description of "the most ghastly spectacle" she'd ever seen...</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; Putin is one third Rasputin, one third Al Capone and one third Moriarty.</p><p>Clearly Putin failed the measure the "tides and hurricanes" (see Churchill quote above) of the war with Ukraine. &nbsp; As of this writing Russia seems to have sustained around 15,300 casualties in the conflict including the deaths of six general officers and one admiral. &nbsp;Over 100 Russian planes have been shot down. &nbsp; The <i>Jerusalem Post</i> now reports that Russian casualties in Ukraine have now exceeded those sustained over ten years in Afghanistan (<a href=";)! &nbsp;Putin is not just a thief -- he is a blunderer.</p><p>The full scope of the blame does not rest with Putin alone. &nbsp;Clearly there has also been a failure on the part of the West to deter Russian aggression in the first place. &nbsp; This is not entirely due to Biden's bumbling though he has much to answer for (disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal etc.). &nbsp;Angela Merkel and the German SDP led her country in the wrong direction for many years encouraging the notion that NATO would allow an invasion of Ukraine. &nbsp;Defense spending among NATO members was allowed to sag for years.</p><p>Moreover, what Churchill said about yielding to war fever <b>applies equally to Biden</b> and the USA and the West. &nbsp;</p><p>The principle foreign policy task of every US president since Harry Truman has been the necessity of avoiding World War III. &nbsp;Any use of nuclear weapons would be an almost unimaginable catastrophe for the entire world.</p><p>Biden cannot afford to escalate the war in Ukraine to the point where it involves a super power showdown. &nbsp; But, equally, he cannot afford to not stand up for western values of democracy and self determination epitomized by Zelenski.</p><p>It must, however, be noted that Zelenski's Ukraine is hardly a perfect vessel for western ideals. &nbsp; The Azov battalion, with its Neo-nazis, is a part of the Ukraine defense forces (<a href=";). &nbsp;Another Churchill quote explains the Azov battalion best: "It isn't only the good boys who help win wars; it is the sneaks and stinkers as well." &nbsp; Moreover, a smattering of unsavory Ukranians is insignificant compared with &nbsp;the ruthless over the top brutality of the Putin's invasion in targeting civilians.</p><p>Biden now faces the greatest challenge of his presidency; he must support Ukraine but not ignite the fuse on World War III. &nbsp; He must emerge as the "Master of events" and not "the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events." &nbsp;God help us all!</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; It’s a popular tourist destination, especially for cruise ships to its capital, St. George’s. And yes, as you already know, we have invaded it.</p><p>Grenada was a former French and, then from 1763, British colony. So inevitably there was a certain amount of French and British invading that went on then. During the British period, we first got involved militarily with Grenada. Nothing major but still worth mentioning.</p><p>During the Revolutionary War, for instance, American privateers targeted ships leaving Grenada’s ports. Mind you, we didn’t have it all our own way. There were also privateers operating out of Grenada that preyed upon American shipping.</p><p>Then during World War II, US forces occasionally visited the island, on one occasion allegedly attempting to set up an artillery post on Richmond Hill, but finding no suitable site.</p><p>Grenada gained its independence from Britain in 1974 but remains part of the Commonwealth.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="; width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Reagan did put "boots on the ground" in Grenada...<br />Reagan Presidential Library, Simi Valley, CA</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br /></p><p>In 1983, Grenada was the site of America’s largest military intervention since the Vietnam War. Ronald Reagan had defeated Jimmy Carter in the election of 1980 to become our fortieth president. Reagan took a more aggressive view about confronting Communism than his Cold War predecessors. Political upheaval on the island of Grenada gave Reagan an opportunity to reverse militarily what he saw as a dangerous expansion of Cuban and Soviet influence.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="188" data-original-width="267" height="282" src="; width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Reagan avenged the death of<br />Grenada's Maurice Bishop</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>On October 19, 1983, Bernard Coard, a hard-line Communist deputy prime minister, led a coup against Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, a Marxist who had assumed power after a coup in 1979. A few days later, Bishop and two other members of his cabinet were assassinated.</p><p>Even before the coup, Reagan had been agonizing about exactly what was happening on Grenada and what it meant for the United States. There were intelligence reports indicating that Russia and Cuba had been building military infrastructure, in particular a ten-thousand-foot airstrip. That summer, he had already told vice president George Bush to make contingency plans, and now Reagan didn’t hesitate for long in enacting them.</p><p>With the Organization of East Caribbean States calling for a military response from the United States and despite being warned that there would be “a harsh political reaction” to a US invasion, on October 22, just a few days after the coup, Reagan decided the invasion should go ahead.</p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="; width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Navy Seal Badge<br />US Navy Seal Museum<br />Fort Pierce, FL</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br /></p><p>Operation Urgent Fury was launched on October 25, 1983. These forces engaged about fifteen hundred troops from the Grenadian Army and about a few hundred Cuban military special forces. Reagan’s ideological soulmate, Prime Minister Thatcher, was thrust into an awkward position by the US invasion as Grenada was still a member of the Commonwealth. Thatcher was disappointed by the American lack of consultation prior to taking action in Grenada.</p><p>However, there was also widespread American support for the invasion, particularly after the ABC broadcast Nightline featured an interview with American medical students from St. George’s University School of Medicine who expressed their gratitude for the invasion and towards the US Army Rangers. Americans were obviously particularly anxious about the potential for hostage taking after the Iranian crisis of 1979, so anything that took Americans out of a potentially dangerous political situation was likely to be popular.</p><p>US troops were withdrawn in December of 1983, and Grenada held elections in December of 1984. The operation can be seen as having laid to rest some of the inevitable reluctance for overseas military interventions evident in the period after the end of the Vietnam War.</p><p>October 25, the day American forces arrived, is celebrated in Grenada as a national holiday—Thanksgiving Day. Early readers could already discern his desire to get rid of "international Jewry" and his faith in the need for <i>Lebensraum</i> for the resettlement of the German people. &nbsp; The rise of Mussolini it Italy with the 1922 March on Rome provided inspiration for those with fascist sympathies though little tangible assistance for his Nazi party.</p><p>Hitler would likely have remained a minor footnote in Weimar political history had it not been for the onset of the Great Depression which was kicked off with the Wall Street crash of October 1929. &nbsp;High unemployment swelled the ranks of the Nazi party bringing them to power in 1933.</p><p>Simms argues, convincingly, that Hitler was obsessed throughout his adult life by the economic and military power of the British Empire and the United States of America. &nbsp; He admired their control of vast amounts of land and their 'Anglo-Saxon' work ethic. &nbsp; He deplored the migration of Germans to lands under their control. &nbsp; He saw America's Great Plains as a perfect answer to the challenge of Lebensraum. &nbsp;During WW2, he directed German industry to construct Amerika jet bombers for the Luftwaffe despite the fact that jet fighters / interceptors would have been much better for the war effort. &nbsp;Yet, almost inexplicably, Hitler never bothered to actually visit Britain, the USA or any English speaking country during his lifetime. &nbsp; How would history and our world have been different had he done so?</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="2400" height="266" src="; width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dwight Eisenhower<br />1890 - 1969<br />Grosvenor Square, London</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>Simms' work becomes particularly intriguing when it focuses on the many Americans of German descent who helped enormously to defat the Nazis. &nbsp;Dwight Eisenhower, architect of the D-day landings, was the descendant of "pacifist Menonites who left the Saarland for Pennsylvania in the 18th century". &nbsp;General Clarence Hubner (commander of US V Corps) has a grandfather from Stuttgart. &nbsp;Carl Spatz (later 'Spaatz') , commander of the US Strategic Air Forces in Europe that pounded German cities into dust, was of German ancestry. &nbsp;Bertram Hoffmeister (Canadian 5th Armored Division) had a grandfather from Hamburg. &nbsp;Simms neglects to mention Admiral Chester Nimitz of the US navy who commanded American forces at the decisive battle of Midway; Nimitz was from the German community in Fredericksburg, Texas.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1396" data-original-width="888" height="400" src="; width="255" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">John Basilone<br />Italian-American Medal of Honor winner</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>Understandably in a Hitler biography, Simms does not elaborate on the contributions to the Allied war effort made by other "Axis-Americans". &nbsp;Around one out of twelve American servicemen in the war were of Italian-America descent (see <b><i>Italy Invades: How Italians Conquered the World </i></b>for much more...<a href=";). &nbsp;Enrico Fermi was an Italian physicist who helped make the American atomic bomb. &nbsp;Japanese-Americans serving in the 442nd regimental combat team ("Go For Broke") won an extraordinary number of medals. &nbsp; And so on...</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="; width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">442nd Medal<br />"Go For Broke"</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>Simms emphasizes Hitler's prioritization of politics over economics. &nbsp;Hitler explains, "The economy is only of secondary importance. &nbsp; The main thing is national pride, love of country." &nbsp;Hitler consistently opposed free trade and capitalism. &nbsp; He wanted to exert national control over the levers of international financial manipulation to supplant what he perceived, or really misperceived, to be a lurking Jewish cabal.</p><p>Hitler held deeply ambivalent views about the German <i>Volk</i> or people. &nbsp; He fretted over the racial coherence of the Fatherland. &nbsp; He worried that that the best elements of the Reich had emigrated weakening the Volk. &nbsp; He was more than willing to destroy those of his confederates who were most loyal to him -- in June of 1934 he

Maybelline has released 4 LE Color Tattoo eyeshadows! I picked up 2 of the colors, Mossy Green and Barely Beige. There's also Gold Shimmer and Rich&nbsp;Mahogany&nbsp;which I may have to go back for (more for the Mahogany than the Shimmer). Barely Beige is a great neutral shade that's like a champagne color and Mossy Green is, well, mossy green. They also have two colors from their permanent line on the display, Bad to the Bronze and Audacious Asphalt so make sure you check the names before buying!</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Now I'm going to get a little bit Harvey Dent on you.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="239" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Excuse how messy I applied them but it goes to show you-a little goes a LONG way! Long time no see. I've been really busy using new products and work has been draining my energy so I've been MIA for awhile. But, I now have a list of products that I want to tell you guys about, So here we go!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>LUSH Mask of Magnaminty</b>:</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">"<span style="background-color: white;">Mask of Magnaminty isn’t technically a daily ‘facial wash’; it’s actually a deep cleansing face and back mask. China clay and fresh peppermint reach deep down to pull the debris from your pores, giving you that delightful tingly-clean sensation. We add loads of aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe. Our inventors created Mask of Magnaminty to be the ‘ultimate face mask’, intense but not harsh or abrasive on the skin. We recommend using Mask of Magnaminty weekly to keep the skin in good condition."&nbsp;</span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white;">This mask is your typical green mint mask but it has exfoliating beads in it and since it's from LUSH, it's a natural product. It works really well at calming my skin and helping my breakouts. Since it;s not one of their fresh face masks, that have to be refrigerated, it also lasts longer.</span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Philosophy Miracle Worker Retinoid Pads and Dark Spot Corrector Serum</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> I have been using these two products every night to help fade my acne marks. I have been using them for about a month now and I am noticing a difference! My marks are fading and my skin seems more even toned. It is expensive ($80 for the set) but I waited until they had their 30% off sale and got it for $56. You may really only need to use this once though, and then once the product is used up, your skin may be good enough where you can use drugstore products to help continue the fading (I've been looking into Lumene Vitamin C drops and the Nuance by Selma Hayek serum both available at CVS).</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This product is an ok product for me. I initially didn't like it because it applies pretty sheer but since my Philosophy products are fading my acne marks that isn't as big of an issue. As far as Western BB creams go, this is a good one. The SPF is 30 which is higher than some US brand BB creams I've seen. It applies nicely, isn't to greasy (though oily skinned gals will probably still need a powder) and doesn't oxidize and turn weird colors. I like it, but not as much as my Asian BB cream.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Lioele Water Drop BB Cream</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This is the only Asian BB cream I have tried so far (gotta get me some Skin79!) but I love it. I was a little wary at first since the BB has water built in to make it more hydrating and that word is like kryptonite to an oily skinned girl! But Ingrid on youtube (<a href="; target="_blank">missglamorazzi</a>) loves it as well and she has oily skin so I decided to purchase it. It feels nice going on and it does hydrate enough to where I don't need a separate moisturizer. This BB only comes in one shade, as many Asian BB creams do, so darker skinned girls may not be able to use it. I am a fair skin tone and Ingrid is a light/medium skin tone. However, if you have light-medium skin I definitely recommend you try this! I got it off Amazon, just be sure you are dealing with a respected seller to make sure you don't get a fake :)</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Origins Zero Oil Instant Matte Finish</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This is probably my Holy Grail product for this summer.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">"<span style="line-height: 16px;">When everyday hassles like heat, humidity, or stress send already overzealous oil glands into overdrive, skin faces a surplus of shine, looks dingy, feels totally tacky. Breakouts are apt to blossom. Nature's master-mattifiers, including oil-foiling Silicates, astringent Winterbloom, plus calming Chinese Camphor, instantly zero in skin-spoiling oil and blot up greasy shine without overdrying. Creates a smooth, invisible finish that stays matte all day. There are no streaks on cheeks. And forehead, chin and nose show positively no glow."</span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 16px;">I apply this over my BB cream and it makes my face matte but not to matte. I still have some dewiness but my face doesn't look greasy throughout the day. I don't even need to use a powder when I use this product. Love!</span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 16px;"><br /></span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 16px;"><b>Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil</b></span></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="line-height: 16px;">I picked this up in the checkout line at Sephora (darn you checkout line!) so this is the 1oz size I believe and it was $12 or $14. I've been using it as my nighttime moisturizer and it seems to be balancing out my skin and I wake up with skin that is not as oily. I also don't need to use a lot so I think the bottle will last a long time.</span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="line-height: 16px;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="line-height: 16px;">So those are some new products I've been using recently. Have you used any of these products? What have you been loving recently? Let me know in a comment!</span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="line-height: 16px;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="line-height: 16px;">-AmieeJoy&lt;3</span></div>2012/07/things-ive-been-testing.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (AmieeJoy)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527072556848848989.post-8584896452721656240Wed, 13 Jun 2012 23:48:00 +00002012-06-13T19:49:37.362-04:00Philosophy Sale!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="; width="400" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Hey guys! Which got me thinking about trying it.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> What is no 'poo, you ask? It is an alternative to using shampoos and conditioners to cleanse your hair. Shampoos and conditioners are loaded with chemicals. Even ones that claim to be natural can have some chemicals in it. And since you are applying them to your scalp, those chemicals can be absorbed into your body. Basically, if you wouldn't put it in your mouth, you shouldn't put it on your skin. No 'poo usually uses baking soda diluted in water as a shampoo and either apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice or olive oil or lemon juice as a conditioner. That's it.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Sounds scary, right? Believe me, I am horrified to try this and am still deciding if I want to or not. My hair is extremely oily and I wash it everyday because I hate the feeling of oily hair. Most no 'pooers (haha) can get away with washing their hair TWICE a WEEK! That's kind of unheard of to me. The transition period can be a bummer as well. For up to a month, you can expect greasiness, frizz and an itchy scalp while your scalp normalizes itself and the oil production. YIKES!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> I might try this. I'm not sure. Although I probably wouldn't use baking soda because I color my hair and that can strip the color. I've heard that dried nettles are a good alternative and they are good for getting rid of excess sebum. Sounds good to me!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Have you gone no 'poo? Would you? Leave me a comment and let me know!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> To check out Almost Britain's experience as she went no 'poo, click&nbsp;<a href="; target="_blank">here</a>.<br /> <br /> Want to learn more about going no 'poo? With the accessibility that Sephora, Ulta and now even drugstores are affording us, BB creams are becoming easier to get our hands on. Maybelline and L'Oreal are both coming out with their versions of BB cream this summer, which I am excited to try. I also want to try some higher end US brands and the Asian versions as well, until I find the perfect one.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Have you guys tried any good BB creams? Are there some you want to try but haven't pulled the trigger (excuse the pun) on buying them yet? Let me know in the comments below! I will be trying and reviewing as many as I can over the summer!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> -AmieeJoy&lt;3</div>2012/06/its-going-to-be-bb-summer.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (AmieeJoy)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527072556848848989.post-5380953717971972321Mon, 28 May 2012 21:45:00 +00002012-05-28T17:45:25.789-04:00Review: Neutrogena Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 30<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="265" /></a></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Photo from Google Images)</span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> I've been using this moisturizer for about a month now. I've always struggled with acne and that struggle has unfortunately left me with some acne scarring. I picked this up to see if it would help lighten them.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This moisturizer contains stabilized Vitamin C, which is a brightener and also Retinol. I like that is has retinol because I am turning 25 in a little over a month (yikes!) and would like to start trying to prevent aging, a feat that is difficult since I also still suffer from acne. This also has SPF 30 which I also like, especially with summer upon us.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> In the month I have been using this, it seems to have lightened my acne scars slightly. However, I notice that new acne rarely leaves any scars now that I am using this product. It goes on smoothly and blends into your skin well. The one complaint I have is that it makes my face look shiny after applying, which is not good paired with my already oily skin. However, it does seem to get less shiny after an hour or so, or you can use a mattifying primer or some powder to tone down the shininess and it looks fine. This product also hasn't broken me out, which is a plus.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> I would recommend this to others, especially if they have spots they want to get rid off. I think it would work well on all skin types but sensitive skin people may want to do a patch test before putting this all over your face since retinol and vitamin C can be irritating to some.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Have you tried this product? What did you think?</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> -AmieeJoy&lt;3</div>2012/05/review-neutrogena-tone-correcting.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (AmieeJoy)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527072556848848989.post-2928254866007855936Sun, 27 May 2012 03:20:00 +00002012-05-27T02:00:23.434-04:00Save or Splurge? Skincare Edition<div style="text-align: center;"> There are SO many skin care items out there at so many price points that it can be hard to justify spending a ton of money on your skincare routine. It is important to take care of your skin, especially if you have specific skin concerns and as you get older, but you don't have to buy all expensive items. So what should you save on and what should you splurge on? Lets get started.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> (Just to clarify, a SPLURGE is anything over $20, which is usually what the most expensive non-anti aging items in a drugstore costs.)</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Face Cleanser: SAVE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> A face cleanser is a good item to save money on. Cleanser only stays on your face for about a minute, then you wash it down the drain. Spending a ton of money on a cleanser just equals to washing your money down the drain. There are some really good basic drugstore cleansers like Cetaphil or the Clean and Clear Fruit Infusions cleansers.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Toner: SAVE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> A facial toner is important since it removes excess dirt and debris from your face. Some even target specific skin issues like acne. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a toner, but I would steer clear of drugstore toners. Most contain alcohol, which is very drying and irritating. A good toner is Cliniques Clarifying Lotion Mild (review <a href="2012/05/review-clinique-clarifying-lotion-mild.html" target="_blank">here</a>) which is $12.50 for 6.7oz.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Serum: SPLURGE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> A facial serum is designed to absorb into your skin quickly and usually contains vitamins and nutrients to help your skin. A good serum can be costly but worth it because of the benefits to the skin. I haven't used serums very much so I don't have any good recommendations, but the sales people at Ulta and Sephora are very helpful and knowledgeable and will be able to help you find a serum that will benefit your skin best.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Moisturizer: SAVE OR SPLURGE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Moisturizer is kind of a wild card. Some people like really high end moisturizers and some are fine with drugstore moisturizers. I myself usually lean towards drugstore moisturizers. My current daytime moisturizer is Neutrogenas Tone Correcting SPF 30 (if you want a review, leave a comment!). Just make sure that whatever moisturizer you choose, it is suited for your skin type and has an SPF of at least 15 (I prefer 30).</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Night Cream: SPLURGE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> A night cream, or night moisturizer, is an item you want to splurge on. While you sleep, your body is renewing itself and repairing damage so you want a good night cream with beneficial vitamins to help aid your skin. Talk about beauty sleep!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Eye Cream: SAVE OR SPLURGE</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This category depends on where you are in life. If you are relatively young and don't have to many eye problems like dark circles or puffiness, you may not need an eye cream yet. If you are just starting out using one for aging prevention, one of the cheaper options from the drugstore will do fine. Once you start noticing more lines and crows feet, you may want to splurge on a more heavy duty cream to help. Always remember to use your ring finger (the weakest finger) to apply eye cream and dab DON'T rub it into your eye area.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> So there you go! A skin care guide on what to save and splurge on. Now, you may not use all these products in your everyday routine but that's ok. As long as your skin care routine is working for you, that's all that matters.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> What do you splurge on? Leave me a comment and let me know!</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> -AmieeJoy&lt;3</div>2012/05/save-or-splurge-skincare-edition.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (AmieeJoy)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527072556848848989.post-821399030451074250Sat, 26 May 2012 02:48:00 +00002012-05-25T22:50:03.651-04:00Review: Clinique Clarifying Lotion Mild<div style="text-align: center;"> I've always been a fan of Clinique's clarifying lotions. They're called lotions, but they're actually a toner that tone and exfoliate the skin. I've used the acne solution one, the one for oily skin and now the mild version. So far, I'm really liking the mild version.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> The mild clarifying lotion, unlike their other lotions, is formulated without alcohol, so it is non-drying and non-irritating. As someone with acne prone skin, I know that irritation can cause an acne flare-up just as easily as not washing my face one night. It still has salicylic acid (0.5%) which I like since it does help my acne.&nbsp;</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> The one weird thing about this product is the texture. It's not a straight up liquid like their other lotions. It's kind of between the consistency of a liquid and a serum. I would recommend applying this with a cotton round, instead of a cotton ball, since it doesn't soak in immediately. It applies very well to the skin though, and leaves it feeling moisturized but not overly greasy. It sinks in like a serum would. I also notice almost no redness using this product. My face would usually turn red for a few minutes after using the acne solutions clarifying lotion.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> This product would work well with all skin types I think. It says its for dry to very dry skin types but I have oily acne prone skin and have had no problems. Its a bit pricey, at $12.50 for 6.7oz but a little goes a long way so it will last you awhile. This product is available at Clinique counters, <a href="; target="_blank">online</a> and wherever Clinique products are sold.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Have you tried this product? What did you think of it?</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> -AmieeJoy&lt;3</div>2012/05/review-clinique-clarifying-lotion-mild.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (AmieeJoy)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527072556848848989.post-7903389815834736120Fri, 25 May 2012 15:00:00 +00002012-05-25T19:46:26.907-04:00Friday Face-Off: Acne Spot Treatments<div style="text-align: center;"> <b>LUSH Grease Lightning</b></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="; width="320" /></a></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Price:</b>&nbsp;$12.95</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Available: </b>LUSH stores or lush.com</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Scent: </b>Herbal</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b><br /></b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>VS.</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b><br /></b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads</b></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="283" /></a></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b><br /></b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Price: </b>~$7.99</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Available: </b>Most drugstores</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Scent: </b>Medicinal</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>Thoughts:</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> I've had acne prone skin for about 12 years now. In the last 9 or so years, I have tried quite a few spot treatments to help combat my acne flare-ups. These are two that have worked well for me.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> The LUSH Grease Lightning is a clear gel that I have been using for about 2 months now. I either dot it on individual flare-ups, or use all over my face if I'm having a particularly bad face week. This product uses thyme, tea tree and rosemary to help dry up and shrink blemishes. You can also use this on your T-Zone to help mattify although since this is a drying treatment, it tends to make the area feel tight so I stick to using it as a spot treatment. It's all natural, since its from LUSH. It may take an extra day, compared to other spot treatments, but it does a good job of not irritating the surrounding skin.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> The Neutrogena pads are just pads that are pre-moistened and you swipe over your face. Again, I use this as a spot treatment or all over, depending on how many breakouts I have. I do notice a bit of redness after using these, probably due to the 2% salicylic acid, which is the main ingredient. I've had good luck with these as well, they seem to keep acne at bay.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <b>And the winner is:</b></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> Despite that it sometimes taking a little longer to completely get rid of the pimple, I will have to go with Grease Lightning. I like that it's natural, so there is no irritation. I also like that it doesn't contain salicylic acid, which makes you more sensitive to the sun. I'm quite pale so I don't need to be any more sun sensitive! It's a little pricey, but a little goes a long way. Plus, since it is natural and a clear gel, you can apply more than once or twice a day. I recommend trying it, and the LUSH skincare in general, if you're an acne sufferer.</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Both photos are from Google images. I color my hair often so I like the option of more sulphate free products and I wasn't impressed with Wens performance or price. Cleansing conditioners also save me time in the shower since they're one step products.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I've used both of these multiple times (I've even bought L'Oreals version twice) and they both work differently, oddly enough. With both, you pump enough in your hand to cover your hair and massage it in with a bit of water. Since it is sulphate free, it won't lather, just massage into your scalp and through to the ends. Then you rinse it out or leave it in for a couple minutes if you want more conditioning.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Here's where they're different. Even thought I have oily hair, I have to leave L'Oreals in for a few minutes, otherwise, my hair is to dry. Even then, I use a leave in conditioner spray when I get out of the shower.&nbsp;</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> However, with Salon's version, I have to rinse it out right away, or else it leaves a weird coating on my hair that I can notice after my hair dries, kinda like how Wen did to me. And still, I use a leave in conditioner spray to tone down the weird coating.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Both smell nice, but Salon's scent lingers longer in your hair so if you don't like the scent, that may be a drawback.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <b>And the winner is:</b></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I think I will have to go with the L'Oreal cleansing conditioner. I like both and suggest you try them (they both cost the same) but the cleansing conditioner at least doesn't leave a weird coating.</div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> Have two products you want me to face-off? I've decided to start a new series on my blog called Friday Face Off. It will run either weekly or bi-weekly and I will write a post comparing two similar products to determine which one is the winner! I have a few products already in mind but my question to you is, are there any products you would like included? I know myself, I see different products from different brands that are basically the same (the lip butter trend for example) but I don't know which brand to try. Lip butters will be a future face off post btw. :)</div> <div style="text-align: center;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: center;"> So if there are products you would like me to "face off" leave me a comment below and I will try to get to them! They both have a use :) &nbsp; The Chomas Creations engraving tip for the Scan N Cut is available here now... <a href="; target="_blank">new engraving tip</a></div><div>Here is a comparison of the 2 tips.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="; /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="384" data-original-width="288" height="320" src="; /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you can see the precision tip on the right comes to a much finer, sharper point and the engraver on the left is still sharp but less of a point. &nbsp;I do offer these for other die cut machines such as the Cricut and Silhouette and wanted to offer them to my Scan N Cut users as well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is a design I filled in today with the new Scan N Cut engraving tip. &nbsp;I've got it on an LED light base here with the red light.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="; /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="; style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="; /></a></div><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Like what you see?
