With second-quarter earnings starting in a big way later this week, as many of the major banks report on Friday, all eyes are now turned to Wednesday when the consumer price index for June will hit the tape. While it may indicate some progress is being made, it’s a solid bet that the numbers won’t be good enough to change the path of the Federal Reserve in lifting rates another 25-basis-points at the end of the month. [in-text-ad] Treasury yields were modestly higher Monday across the board on the shorter maturities after buyers jumped in on Friday to grab government debt that was at some of the highest yield levels across the curve since early March. The longer maturities yields all finished lower as buyers continued to add to positions. The 10-year note finished Monday at 4%, while the short 2-year paper closed the day at 4.86%. While the worrisome inversion between the two securities has narrowed, the case for a recession later this year remains strong. Brent Crude and West Texas Intermediate were lower after printing a 10-week high back on Friday. Concerns over the economy and the slow response from the Chinese government in boosting their country’s sagging economy both weighed on the black gold on Monday. Natural gas was a winner on Monday, closing up over 3% at $2.67. [nativounit] Gold closed modestly lower on Monday as profit takers took advantage of the $20 gain in the bullion on Friday. The move higher Friday was triggered by the June non-farm payroll numbers that came in slightly below expectations. Bitcoin closed up 2% Monday at $30,747.90. 24/7 Wall St. reviews dozens of analyst research reports each day of the week with a goal of finding new ideas for investors and traders alike. The major indexes finished Monday mixed, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq the only loser on the day, and barely one at that. It was down just 0.03% to close at 12,804. Top strategists will be watching closely as the consumer price index numbers and the Federal Open Market Committee minutes drop Wednesday, while the producer price index and initial jobless claims come in Thursday. The big banks will mark the unofficial kick-off for the first-quarter earnings reporting parade on Friday. While the money center leaders should be able to deliver predictable results, the smaller regional banks will be watched closely, as many lost huge deposits after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in March. One of the flies in the equity market ointment Monday was that interest rates across the Treasury curve jumped sharply higher on Monday, especially on the short end. The two-year note crossed back over 4% to end the day at 4.01%, and the five-year note yield jumped a stunning 16 basis points. The inversion with the 10-year note tightened as the benchmark paper finished the session at 3.42%. The inversion suggests the potential for recession. After a big week last week, both Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude finished Monday modestly lower. This came despite chatter across Wall Street that energy giant Exxon Mobil was in acquisition discussions with Permian Basin leader Pioneer Natural Resources. This would mark the energy giant’s biggest deal since the merger with Mobil in 1999. Natural gas finished the day at $2.17, up over 8% for the day. [nativounit] Gold dropped almost 1% on Monday, falling back below the $2,000 level to close at $1,992, after a strong move over the past few weeks. Her Cancer Had Been Gone Four Years. One Medigap Insurer Required Five appeared first on 24/7 Wall St.. A 69-year-old woman finished cancer treatment four years ago and is in remission. She spent four years in a Medicare Advantage plan, fighting prior authorization requests and network limits. Now she plans to use Annual Enrollment, which runs October 15 through December 7, to switch to Original Medicare and add Medigap Plan G. In this example, her first Medigap application asks whether she has been diagnosed with or treated for cancer within the past five years. She has company. On Reddit’s r/retirement forum, one poster described “a close call with almost being unable to get a Medicare supplement (Medigap).” People leaving Advantage with a serious diagnosis can face the same risk unless federal or state protections give them the right to buy Medigap. A healthier applicant may have an easier time getting approved. Medicare Takes Her Back, but Medigap Gets to Decide Original Medicare will re-enroll her without asking a single question about cancer. Medigap is sold by private insurers, and in most states they can ask whatever health questions state law allows. That supplement is what limits Original Medicare’s open-ended cost sharing. Annual Enrollment gives her the right to leave Advantage. Her right to buy Medigap without health questions comes from a separate, narrower set of rules. Her federal guarantee was a one-time six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period that started when she first enrolled in Part B. That window closed years ago. Outside it, insurers in most states can review her medical history and deny coverage. Federal trial rights generally protect people who joined Advantage when first eligible for Medicare at 65, or dropped Medigap to try Advantage for the first time, then leave within 12 months. Four years in, she is past that trial window The five-year lookback is one carrier’s rule. Medicare does not set it. Another provider might look back two years, ask only about active treatment, accept certain cancer histories, or charge a higher premium for the risk where state law permits. The exact wording of the question changes when the clock starts. A carrier may count from her last treatment, not her diagnosis. If she still takes a daily cancer-prevention drug or sees her oncologist yearly, she should ask how the insurer treats those details. A routine follow-up visit does not necessarily restart the clock. Leaving Advantage First Leaves Her With No Cap Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket maximum. If she drops Advantage before her Medigap coverage is approved for January, she starts the year with Original Medicare and nothing to cover the gaps. On top of her monthly Part B premium, she would pay these costs herself: Cost-Sharing Item How Often It Applies 2026 Amount Per Person Part B deductible Once per year $283 Part B coinsurance Every covered outpatient service 20% of the approved amount, with no cap Part A hospital deductible Each benefit period $1,736 Hospital days 61 to 90 Per day, each benefit period $434 Skilled nursing days 21 to 100 Per day, each benefit period $217 The 20% coinsurance is the risky exposure. If her cancer returns, chemotherapy in a doctor’s office generally leaves her paying 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after the Part B deductible, with no annual ceiling. Advantage’s in-network cap protected her. Standard Plan G would cover that coinsurance. Original Medicare alone does neither. She also loses the drug coverage built into her Advantage plan. She needs a standalone Part D plan starting the same day. Premium surcharges, coverage gaps, and other traps like this one are the whole subject of our free Medicare guide. Get Approved Before You Leave Advantage Compare health questions before filing. Get current Medigap applications from at least three carriers. Check each question’s exact wording against your dates: diagnosis, last treatment, last medicine, last follow-up visit. Apply first to the carrier whose lookback your records clear. Apply with a future effective date and wait for written approval. Request Medigap coverage starting January 1. Once approval gets, complete your Advantage disenrollment and enroll in a separate Part D plan before December 7. If approval never comes, your current plan stays active. Call your state insurance department or State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). Some states give broader Medigap switching or guaranteed-issue rights that override carrier health questions. If your state does, the five-year question may not apply. If every carrier turns her down, she should stay in Advantage and use Annual Enrollment to find a plan whose network includes her oncologist. Its in-network out-of-pocket cap protects her far better than Original Medicare with no supplement. Her oncologist’s remission clock had reached four years. The insurer’s underwriting clock required five, and leaving Advantage would have left her exposed to the difference. The prophet showcases his lyrical ability on the track, complementing Dube’s musical style. The song praises God’s work in people’s lives and carries a message of hope for those facing difficult circumstances. Part of the lyrics reads: “Dzakasvika nyasha kuno kwamaikanda mapfumo, vamwe vaikanda matombo. Ishe ndokundipa gombo; zvimwe hazvidi godo, kana kutsika zondo. Ini handichazi wepondo… Ishe vandisimudza nerudo.” The song is already gaining attention on social media, where listeners have praised Prophet T Freddy’s ability to create memorable melodies. He said music is an important part of the ministry’s outreach. “Our mission is to spread the word of God to people through preaching, prophesying and music. I thank God that people have received that,” he said. Prophet T Freddy added that God’s word should reach people through different platforms. He has collaborated with several musicians in advancing the gospel through music. He is also known for his prophecies, songs and philanthropic work in various communities. The accused is, in fact, the son of Mashwede’s younger brother. It is important to note that the name “Tendai” is common within the Mashamhanda family, and this appears to have led to confusion in identifying the accused. Khader Adnan, a Palestinian activist who had already endured 87 days of a hunger strike, lay on the cold floor, his frail frame shivering from both the hunger that now consumed him and the determination that had ignited his resistance. In those final hours, as his body succumbed to the deadly cost of defying Israel’s apartheid and military justice system, the walls seemed to echo with a powerful, unquenchable spirit. As the world remembers his life and the battles he fought, it’s impossible not to conjure vivid images of his final moments – an imaginary reconstruction of what might have transpired as his hunger strike reached its tragic culmination. In those haunting hours, Adnan’s trembling body bore witness to a resilience that defied comprehension. The hunger, an insatiable force that gripped his very being, had become a testament to his unwavering commitment to the cause he held dear. Each tremor was a silent proclamation that even in the face of impending mortality, the spirit of resistance burned brighter than ever. Adnan’s fading breaths were a reflection of a struggle that extended far beyond his frail frame. The internal organs that now threatened to give way were metaphors for a larger struggle – the collapse of a system of oppression and the rallying cry for justice. While his body weakened, his will remained unbroken, echoing the resolve of countless Palestinians who have endured similar tribulations. Adnan’s tragic passing on May 2 2023 was a stark reminder of the agonizing cost that Palestinians pay for their unwavering pursuit of justice. His hunger strike was a self-imposed sacrifice, a testament to the lengths he and others were willing to go in order to challenge the systematic arbitrary detention of Palestinians and demand the rights that Israel had long denied them. The 44-year-old father of nine from the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, had a number of charges against him, including “involvement in terrorist activities”, “incitement”, and “belonging to a terrorist group.” In previous instances, he had employed similar hunger strikes as a means to protest against his arbitrary arrests and detainment by the Israeli authorities. Since 2004, he had engaged in five hunger strikes, including a 67-day strike in 2021 and a 55-day strike in 2015. He experienced arrest on 12 occasions and spent approximately eight years incarcerated, with administrative detention being the predominant reason for his imprisonment. Khader Adnan is the first Palestinian detainee to die as a result of a hunger strike since 1992. When his life was at risk, Israeli authorities refused him access to the specialized care he needed in a civilian hospital and instead left him to die alone in his cell. “The appalling treatment of such a high-profile detainee is the latest alarming sign that Israeli authorities are growing increasingly brazen in their contempt for Palestinians’ rights and lives, and increasingly reckless in their cruelty towards Palestinians,” said Amnesty International’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Heba Morayef. The significance of his employment of hunger strikes must not be overlooked, as it underscores a vital tactic wielded by altruistic Palestinians in their struggle for the liberation of their people. This approach demonstrates an unwavering commitment, where even the individual undertaking the hunger strike might forego the opportunity to relish the eventual fruits of freedom. A hunger strike is a form of protest that involves refraining from eating as a political act of remonstration. Distinct from conventional modern labour strikes in which laborers refrain from work by turning their labour into a means of struggle—a weapon—hunger strikes entail the deployment of the strikers’ bodies as weapons. “Hunger strikes thus risk the decay of the body, even its death. In this way, they politicize the body. The practice of hunger striking is not uniform across time and space,” said media, conflict resolution, and transformation researcher Lazarus Sauti. “It derives its particular meaning from the historical, material context in which it is situated. Writing about the praxis of the Death Fast Struggle waged between 2000 and 2007 by Turkish leftist political prisoners who protested against the introduction of high-security prisons, Banu Bargu theorizes the hunger strike as a means of making life itself into a weapon.” The hunger strike, a facet of the Palestinian liberation effort, offers a potential avenue for transformative politics both inside and outside colonial prisons. It seeks to challenge current prison oppressions while nurturing a revolutionary identity tied to ongoing struggle, with aspirations for a liberated Palestinian tomorrow. Over the past decade, there has been an emergence of what are known as “individual” hunger strikes (idrab fardi). These have arisen due to the decline of the Palestinian national liberation movement in the post-Oslo period. On July 27, 2020, Maher al-Akhras, a Palestinian political prisoner, received an administrative detention order and promptly initiated an indefinite hunger strike to demand his release. At the time, al-Akhras was 49 years old, a father of six, and hailed from Silet al-Dhahir, located to the south of the Palestinian city of Jenin. Having been imprisoned multiple times in Israeli colonial prisons, his most recent arrest prompted his fifth detention and third instance of being held under an administrative detention order. Throughout his 103-day hunger strike, al-Akhras grappled with recurring seizures, intense headaches, compromised vision, and hearing, as well as excruciating pain across his body, particularly in his chest region. These conditions posed severe and immediate threats to his life. Insisting on continuing his hunger strike, he affirmed his position to himself, his family, community, and people, as well as to all free people around the world: “My aim is freedom, either freedom or martyrdom; both options constitute victory for my people and prisoners.” After a serious deterioration in his condition, al-Akhras was hospitalized in an Israeli hospital on September 9, 2020, but refused to cooperate with the doctors. On October 25, the Israeli court froze his administrative detention without releasing him. He persisted in his hunger strike until November 6, 2020, when he was released after an Israeli court ruling. Palestinians celebrated his freedom as their own; his freedom was perceived as the possibility and opening of their own freedom. “When taken to the extreme, the hunger strike is a life-and-death struggle, a fight for freedom driven by the forced choice between “martyrdom or freedom.” The hunger strike that risks a life to obtain freedom resonates with the fight to the death that Hegel delineated in his account of the master-slave dialectic, which has instigated such rich and diverse intellectual discourses on oppressive encounters,” said Assistant professor of anthropology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Institute of Women’s Studies at Palestine’s Birzeit University, Lena Meari. The Israeli government is ill-treating Palestinian prisoners and making life miserable for those outside penitentiaries. Those who attend protests risk being arrested, seriously injured, or unlawfully killed. Human rights defenders are placed under travel bans, arrested, or forcibly transferred or deported; the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement is outlawed; human rights organizations are banned; and hunger strikers risk their lives. Innocent lives have been lost in Gaza, Jenin, and Nablus among other areas. “The bloodletting scenes of Israeli Jewish terrorist militias in Huwara destroying the life of every discoverable Palestinian and burning homes, cars, trees, and animals to ash and rubble, are sickening and unprecedented in scale and ferocity,” said the Palestinian ambassador to Zimbabwe Tamer Almassri. “Israeli Jewish terrorist groups chanted “death to Arabs” and danced on the rubble of burned homes and the bodies of dead and injured Palestinians, all while protected by Israeli occupying forces,” he said. However, the resilient and selfless spirit of some Palestinians like Adnan continues to flicker in the darkness. “Our fight is continuing and the enemy will realize once again that its crimes will not pass without a response. Resistance will continue by all might and determination,” said the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in a statement following the death of Adnan. Nonetheless, the Palestinian fighting spirit is apparent. “Hunger strikes serve as a complex tool in the battle against Israel’s Palestinian territory occupation. While they may not always yield immediate policy shifts, they effectively raise the voices of the oppressed and spotlight the ongoing struggle,” said analyst Jethro Makumbe. The ethical questions they provoke stimulate discussions on governmental duties, the efficacy of nonviolent protest, and the critical need to address the core problems of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As long as the occupation endures, hunger strikes are likely to persist as a powerful instrument in the broader fight for justice and human rights. Under the initiative WFP will create assets and develop transformative skills that will improve vulnerable families and communities’ access to livelihood opportunities. Targeted communities will benefit from community-shared assets such as greenhouses, and income-generation activities. As part of the programme, WFP will provide internal savings and lending (ISAL) training to boost financial literacy among participants while the youth will undertake digital and vocational skills development training “The Urban Resilience program will improve the ability of these urban households to meet their basic food and nutrition needs while reducing the negative coping strategies, and need for urgent assistance,” said USAID Acting Mission Director Priscilla Sampil. “This is our third round of USAID funding to the World Food Programme’s Urban Resilience Program, demonstrating the U.S. government’s commitment to tackling food insecurity and poverty in urban areas.” Approximately 1.5 million people living in urban areas are food insecure according to latest government assessments. People who live in urban areas have fewer opportunities for subsistence livelihoods compared to rural areas. As a result, most urban residents live hand-to-mouth, working multiple jobs in the informal sector. Unless assistance is provided urgently, people will continue to face constraints due to economic challenges as a result of inflation and rising food costs. “Zimbabwean cities are growing and face the challenge to provide decent livelihoods for their dwellers” said Francesca Erdelmann, WFP Representative and Country Director. “With USAID’s support we will continue supporting income generating activities, while working with national and local institutions to advance policies and social protection for the urban poor”, she added. Since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, the United States has invested nearly $4.5 billion in Zimbabwe through initiatives to enhance food security, support economic resilience, improve health outcomes, and promote democratic governance. USAID’s latest contribution to WFP’s food and resilience activities in Zimbabwe brings the total contributions from the United States to over US$8.9 million this year. Through their Intergrity Icons campaign, ALZ will “name and fame” those working in the public service but exhibiting intergrity and professionalism to the satisfaction of their communities. “It is a way to create meaningful conversations about what it means to be a public servant and shines a light on the role of ordinary people in strengthening institutions in a society such as ours. It also encourages us to think about what is needed to build an open, inclusive and accountable societies,” reads a statement from ALZ. According to ALZ, five civil servants will be named intergrity icons of the year 2022 with one being selected for the people’s choice award. Zimbabwe is currently battling high corruption with most public service facilities such as passport office, vehicle inspection department, central vehicle registry and the police being among the most corrupt. The ALZ Intergrity Icon campaign therefore seeks to infuse a culture of intergrity among civil servants to promote transparency and accountability in Zimbabwe. By Gift Washaya The program has seen over 200 students graduating with certificates in various courses which include welding, baking, carpentry and catering for free. Cllr Madzingira said the idea came after realising youths are abusing drugs to escape from the effects of unemployment and idleness. “The youths are suffering from the effects of drug abuse,” said Madzingira. “This is part of the anti-drug campaign.” He said the idea was borrowed from vocational centres. “We just brought Chinembiri Vocational Centre here to empower them with a critical skill for survival,” said Madzingira. “What we want is a positive result from our youths.” Despite the challenges, Cllr Madzingira said he is determined to see all youths undertaking different projects so that they can earn a living. “The major challenge we are facing is the shortage of materials in welding, said Madzingira. “However, we are fighting hard to solve the problem.” The project is being implemented in collaboration with community primary schools that assist short-course students in their practical learning. “We also partnered with Sunningdale 1 and Sunningdale 2 Primary Schools which are supporting students in practical learning, he said. “They voluntarily weld broken chairs and tables at these primary schools to enhance their practical skills.” Students said they are happy to be part of the program and they implored the Councillor to continue to do the good work. “l thank Cllr Madzingira for bringing this program to us,” said one of the students Kudzaishe Mutsaru. “He is empowering the community and may he continue to push for more.” They also said the programs are going to empower students with entrepreneurial skills. “This knowledge is going to enable us to start our own businesses, said one of the students. “If it wasn’t for Mr Madzingira our lives would have been a disaster.” Sunningdale is one of the high-density suburbs which is affected by the problem of drug abuse. The post Empowerment Program Keeps Youths Free From Drugs appeared first on 263Chat. 95787 Hindus Plan Grand Diwali Festivities in Harare With fireworks /hindus-plan-grand-diwali-festivities-in-harare-with-fireworks/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 13:30:04 +0000 /?p=92916 Hindu Society Harare (HSH) is presenting a four-hours long Diwali Mela (fair) on October 22 in Harare celebrating Diwali, the most popular festival of Hindus. It will include fireworks, entertainment and food-stalls. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, commended HSH […] The post Hindus Plan Grand Diwali Festivities in Harare With fireworks appeared first on 263Chat. Hindu Society Harare (HSH) is presenting a four-hours long Diwali Mela (fair) on October 22 in Harare celebrating Diwali, the most popular festival of Hindus. It will include fireworks, entertainment and food-stalls. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, commended HSH for organizing Diwali festivities and for its efforts to keep the Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions alive and attempting to pass these on to the coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, wished “joy and light in every heart” to all Zimbabwe Hindus on Diwali, which falls on October 24 this year. Sending Diwali greetings to 1.2 billion Hindus of the world, Rajan Zed urged them each to take a vow of “selfless service” on this sacred occasion. Zed quoted ancient Hindu scripture Bhagavad-Gita: Selfish action imprisons the world. Act selflessly, without any consideration of personal gain…by dedication to selfless work one achieves the highest goal. Do your work with the well-being of others always in focus…Ignorant work for their own profit, enlightened act for the welfare of the world without any attachment. Rajan Zed also suggested Hindus to focus on inner search, stay pure, explore the vast wisdom of scriptures, make spirituality more attractive to youth and children, stay away from greed, and always keep God in your life. Hindus are God’s people, full of courage and generosity, Zed added. In Harare, Cameron Street Shree Omkar Mandir celebrated 90th anniversary in February 2019, while 25th anniversary of Ridgeview Shree Omkar Mandir was observed in 2017. HSH “intends to publish a written record” of the hundred years of “community’s existence in Zimbabwe”. In the pre-COVID-19 times, HSH reportedly had been conducting various bhajan events, twice-weekly yoga classes, Hindi lessons, cultural/social activities; organized daily aarti at both the temples with Havan on Sundays; and offered funeral assistance for bereaved families; etc.; besides running Mahila Mandal, Shishu Mandal and Yuvak Mandal. HSH has also been running various schools—Westridge High School, Westridge Primary School, Gujarati School. Diwali, the festival of lights, aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. The post Hindus Plan Grand Diwali Festivities in Harare With fireworks appeared first on 263Chat. 92916 The Hub Unconference To Run On The Sidelines Of Shoko Festival /hub-unconference-to-run-on-the-sidelines-of-shoko-festival/ Thu, 08 Sep 2022 12:59:08 +0000 /?p=91574 Zimbabwe’s biggest annual digital media conference, the Hub Unconference, promises to be exciting as it assumes a hybrid format and welcomes guest speakers from across the African continent. Addressing delegates at the inaugural Southern Africa Public Procurement Forum in Harare recently, the former Deputy Prime Minister urged governments across the region to move beyond simply adopting AI technologies and instead become creators of them. Mutambara,whose career includes research at NASA and teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) said the future of economic power and national sovereignty would be determined by those who build and control AI. “The people who are controlling AI are six men and no women, no Africans, no Chinese in that room. That is the danger of a few men, unelected, running the world through technology. It is called techno-feudalism. No women. No Africans,” he said. He argued that the concentration of AI development in the hands of a small number of technology companies poses significant risks for countries that remain consumers rather than innovators. Mutambara said artificial intelligence was advancing rapidly towards what experts describe as artificial superintelligence where machines outperform even the brightest human minds. “Artificial superintelligence is where we are saying the machine is smarter than our smartest. Don’t get happy but see the future,” he said. He urged African governments, universities and industries to invest heavily in research, innovation and home-grown technologies to avoid being left behind. “I do not blame the Chinese. I do not blame the Americans. I blame you and I — Africans. We must be creators of AI systems. When you are using AI systems in procurement, let us create the AI systems ourselves. We as Africans will become consequential when we are creators of AI,” he said. Mutambara challenged public procurement professionals to become catalysts for digital transformation by promoting policies that encourage local AI development and innovation. He said procurement systems across Southern Africa could play a critical role in accelerating the adoption of locally developed technologies while strengthening regional cooperation. Calling for greater collaboration among Southern African countries, Mutambara said no single nation had the resources or capacity to compete alone in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Instead, he urged governments to pursue coordinated regional strategies that harness the expertise of universities, research institutions and the private sector to position Africa as a contributor to, rather than merely a consumer of, the next technological revolution. He encouraged delegates to leave the forum with a shared commitment to champion AI policy reforms within their institutions and governments saying Africa’s future competitiveness would depend on decisions made today. The post Zim Teen Innovator is Building a Waste-Sorting Machine From Scrap, and the Skills Fairs are Giving Him a Chance to Be Seen appeared first on 263Chat. LUPANE — While many people see discarded plastic, old DVD players, cardboard boxes and scrap metal as rubbish, 18-year-old Blessing Chibango sees opportunity. Standing proudly beside a machine he built largely from waste materials, the young innovator explained how his invention separates different types of waste, helping communities manage refuse more efficiently while promoting recycling and environmental protection. His invention, which ultimately won under the STEM category, was among hundreds of innovations and practical skills displays showcased at the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development’s Skills Fair currently underway in Lupane, Matabeleland North. For Blessing, the exhibition was more an opportunity to demonstrate how young people can contribute solutions to some of Zimbabwe’s most pressing challenges. “I didn’t create this machine for myself,” he said. “I thought about the environment, the community and how we can keep people healthy. If we manage waste properly, we can reduce diseases like cholera and create cleaner communities.” His waste-separating machine uses a series of mechanical arms, trays and compartments to sort different types of waste into separate containers. Built from recycled materials and salvaged components from old electronics, the prototype demonstrates how innovation can emerge even in resource-limited environments. For years, many young Zimbabwean innovators have struggled to move beyond the prototype stage. Brilliant ideas often remain trapped in classrooms, workshops and homes because of limited funding, inadequate exposure and lack of support systems. Platforms such as the Skills Audit and Development Skills Fair are increasingly being viewed as part of the solution. The fair, which brings together students, artisans, innovators, vocational trainees and entrepreneurs from across the province, seeks to identify, nurture and showcase skills that can drive economic growth and industrial development. It forms part of the broader national skills development agenda spearheaded by the Ministry of Skills Audit and Development, which aims to map, recognise and harness the talents across the country. The initiative aligns with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which places significant emphasis on human capital development, innovation, industrialisation and the creation of a knowledge-based economy. Under NDS2, skills development is viewed as a critical pillar for accelerating economic transformation and preparing Zimbabwe’s workforce for the demands of a modern economy. The Skills Audit Policy, meanwhile, seeks to identify competencies across different sectors and ensure that talent is linked to opportunities for growth, employment and enterprise development. For young people like Blessing, these policies are beginning to translate into tangible opportunities. His innovation addresses multiple national priorities at once: environmental management, public health, recycling, technological innovation and job creation. Beyond separating waste, he believes the technology could be adapted for agriculture, mining and manufacturing sectors where sorting and grading materials is an important part of production processes. “If we can improve this machine and automate it, it can help businesses and communities. It can separate waste, sort agricultural products and even assist in other industries,” he explained. The exhibitions at Lupane State University were filled with similar stories. Young people from schools, vocational training centres and community innovation hubs are presenting projects ranging from robotics and renewable energy solutions to agricultural technologies and digital innovations. Together, they paint a picture of a generation eager to participate in Zimbabwe’s development journey. Government officials have repeatedly emphasised that achieving Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy, will require more than natural resources and infrastructure investment. It will depend on unlocking the country’s human capital and creating pathways for innovation to thrive. The Skills Fair is emerging as one of those pathways. By giving young innovators visibility, connecting them with policymakers and potential investors, and recognising practical skills that are often overlooked, the programme is helping bridge the gap between talent and opportunity. For Blessing, however, the journey is only beginning. His immediate goal is to secure support to refine and scale his invention into a fully automated system capable of serving communities and businesses on a larger scale. Like many young innovators before him, he understands that a prototype alone will not change the world. But standing among fellow innovators in Lupane, he is hopeful that platforms such as the Skills Fair can provide the recognition and support needed to transform ideas into impact. “People always talk about inventors in other countries,” he said. “But we also have innovators here in Zimbabwe. All we need is support.” If the excitement and ingenuity on display at the Lupane Skills Fair are anything to go by, Zimbabwe may already be sitting on a generation of innovators ready to help drive the country’s journey towards Vision 2030. For years, many Zimbabweans in remote areas have struggled to access basic medical services due to long travel distances, high costs and limited infrastructure. The introduction of virtual hospital services is now helping to bridge that gap by bringing medical consultations closer to communities. The programme, driven by the government in partnership with private sector players and development organisations, uses digital platforms to connect patients with healthcare professionals. Officials say the initiative is designed to improve access to timely medical advice while reducing the burden of travel for patients. President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially launched the first telemedicine virtual hospital at Precabe Farm in Kwekwe, marking a significant step toward digitising the country’s health services. A subsequent launch in Chiweshe was led by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, who has been a key advocate of the programme. The project has since expanded, with nearly 40 telemedicine centres now operational across the country. Telecommunications firm NetOne is providing network infrastructure to support virtual consultations, enabling communities to access healthcare services remotely. In addition to digital services, the initiative is supported by community health workers, known as Vadhumeni veUtano, who conduct basic screenings such as blood pressure and blood sugar tests, helping to detect health risks early. Officials say the integration of mobile financial services into the programme is also promoting economic inclusion by making it easier for patients to access and pay for healthcare services. The telemedicine initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe’s healthcare system and aligns with the government’s Vision 2030 development agenda, which seeks to improve quality of life and ensure equitable access to essential services. Authorities say the programme will continue to expand as more communities are connected, with the goal of ensuring that no Zimbabwean is left behind in accessing healthcare. The telecoms provider says recent product enhancements and service rollouts reflect its broader vision of strengthening Zimbabwe’s digital ecosystem while delivering value to consumers, businesses and communities. In a move designed to support Zimbabwe’s tourism recovery and growth, NetOne has introduced a specialised Tourist SIM card, available free of charge at major entry points, including airports. The initiative ensures that international visitors have immediate access to affordable and reliable mobile connectivity upon arrival. The Tourist SIM remains active for 90 days and offers flexible data and voice bundles tailored to short-term stays. The company said the product aligns with the country’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” thrust by enhancing the overall visitor experience and positioning the country as a digitally accessible destination. Industry observers note that seamless connectivity has become a critical component of modern travel, enabling navigation, digital payments, social sharing and remote work. NetOne has also adjusted its off-peak data hours, extending the window to 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM from the previous 1:00 AM to 7:00 AM schedule. The change is intended to provide customers with greater flexibility and affordability during overnight usage. The revised structure allows users to take advantage of faster, lower-cost data services for large downloads, system updates, streaming and other bandwidth-intensive activities, in line with shifting consumer behaviour and rising data consumption trends in Zimbabwe. Telecommunications analysts say such pricing and scheduling adjustments are increasingly important in emerging markets, where cost-sensitive consumers rely on off-peak packages to maximise value. Beyond product innovation, NetOne is pursuing broader structural reforms anchored in governance, transparency and technology-led growth. The company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment aimed at creating income-generating opportunities for young people. Through this partnership, NetOne seeks to expand digital and financial inclusion initiatives across all ten provinces, supporting entrepreneurship and youth participation in the digital economy. The company said the collaboration reflects its recognition of young people as key drivers of Zimbabwe’s innovation landscape and long-term economic sustainability. Strategic Leadership and Reform NetOne’s leadership says its strategy is grounded in accountability, transparency and integrity as it navigates a rapidly evolving telecommunications environment. By aligning governance reforms with technological advancement, the operator aims to strengthen operational efficiency while remaining responsive to customer needs. At the heart of these allegations are the Group CEO, Raphael Mushanawani, and the Chief Technical Officer, Christopher Muchechemera, who are accused of orchestrating and benefiting from a series of dubious procurement deals. Also Read: /unpacking-the-arrest-of-netone-ceo-and-the-broader-implications/ The story begins with the procurement of key telecommunications equipment that was supposed to benefit NetOne’s infrastructure. However, behind the scenes, things were far from ordinary. In 2024, the company began exploring the idea of purchasing new microwave transmission equipment. The CTO, Muchechemera, reportedly invited a local company to conduct trials and test the equipment. Everything seemed routine at first, until a strange twist occurred. According to insiders, the GCEO, Mushanawani, approved a trip to Romania in early 2025, funded by a local company for senior staff to examine the technology. The trip’s purpose and outcomes were never discussed with the Executive Committee. When the team returned, a procurement requisition for the equipment was raised—yet it was directed to a junior employee, bypassing senior procurement officials. This raised red flags among staff who questioned the lack of transparency. The requisition eventually led to a deal worth USD 17 million, which was later negotiated down to USD 15 million. However, this deal wasn’t part of NetOne’s annual procurement plan or budget. Further complicating matters, when other vendors offered to supply the same equipment for much lower prices—USD 8 million from Tauro Panther, and USD 9 million from Satewave—the urgency to complete the deal suddenly disappeared. The reasons behind the sudden change in direction remain unclear. One senior staff member, the Head of Supply Chain, voiced serious concerns over the deal, suggesting that the equipment was overpriced and questioning why due process wasn’t followed. However, his objections were met with anger, threats of dismissal, and allegations that he was obstructing critical projects. Another scandal revolves around the upgrade of NetOne’s ZTE VAS platforms, which are used to handle the company’s value-added services. In August 2025, the CTO raised a requisition to upgrade the platforms, citing the need to stay updated with the latest technology. Yet again, the local company was brought into the fold, offering to provide the upgrade at a hefty cost of USD 11.7 million. The Head of Supply Chain questioned the necessity of this upgrade, pointing out that the system had reached its end of life and could easily be replaced with a more competitive, cost-effective solution. The lack of proper planning and the absence of this upgrade in the company’s annual budget raised alarms. Despite these concerns, the project moved ahead with the local company as the preferred vendor, further fueling suspicions about the nature of these procurement decisions. As the investigation deepens, even more troubling practices have come to light. In addition to the equipment scandals, there was the curious case of consultancy services during the implementation of the SAP ERP system. While NetOne had already paid for the necessary consultancy services through its contract with Farevic (Pvt) Limited, the GCEO pushed for additional consultancy for USD 79,467.49. This seemed like an unnecessary duplication of services, raising questions about whether the company’s resources were being squandered. Further adding to the concerns, the GCEO allegedly bypassed the Executive Committee to engage Lunartech Solutions for the upgrade of NetOne’s SAGE ERP system. Despite no formal resolution from the committee, this direct engagement with Lunartech resulted in a series of costly addenda, which saw the total payments exceed USD 1.2 million—far beyond the original agreement. The lack of planning and the failure to follow proper procurement processes were clear violations of standard corporate governance practices. The impact of these actions extends far beyond the numbers on paper. Staff at NetOne have reported a toxic working environment, where questioning these deals often leads to intimidation and retaliation. The division within the company has grown, with key staff members now caught between their duty to the organisation and their moral compass. The growing culture of fear and secrecy has left many employees disillusioned and concerned for their futures. One senior staff member, who asked to remain anonymous, expressed how difficult it has become to trust the leadership. “It feels like there’s a wall between the executives and the rest of us. When things go wrong, it’s always the people at the bottom who have to take the fall.” These allegations have raised more than a few eyebrows among Zimbabwe’s telecommunications regulators and industry observers. With such large sums of money at stake and with accusations of financial mismanagement mounting, there is a growing call for an independent investigation into the matter. The public, along with shareholders and employees, deserves to know the full extent of what has been happening behind closed doors at NetOne. For now, it remains unclear whether any action will be taken. But with the stakes so high—both for NetOne and for the country’s telecommunications industry—pressure is mounting for transparency and accountability The post Massive Financial Scandal Rocks NetOne appeared first on 263Chat. 108052 ZESN Marks International Democracy Day with Call for Stronger Democratic Safeguards in AI Governance /zesn-marks-international-democracy-day-with-call-for-stronger-democratic-safeguards-in-ai-governance/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 07:12:41 +0000 /?p=107587 The Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) has urged Zimbabwean authorities, political parties, civil society and citizens to take decisive steps towards regulating artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that strengthens democratic institutions and protects fundamental rights, warning that without robust governance, new technologies could erode […] The post ZESN Marks International Democracy Day with Call for Stronger Democratic Safeguards in AI Governance appeared first on 263Chat. The Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN) has urged Zimbabwean authorities, political parties, civil society and citizens to take decisive steps towards regulating artificial intelligence (AI) in a way that strengthens democratic institutions and protects fundamental rights, warning that without robust governance, new technologies could erode democratic spaces in the country. In a statement marking the International Day of Democracy, ZESN said this year’s global theme — “Ensuring effective governance of AI at all levels” — presents a critical new frontier for democracy worldwide, including in Zimbabwe. The Network noted that while AI offers potential to enhance transparency and efficiency in electoral processes, it also poses serious risks of disinformation, manipulation and disenfranchisement if left unchecked. “The future of democracy hinges on the ability to govern technology and not be governed by it,” ZESN said. “AI has the power to either amplify the voices of the people… or it can be a tool for the suppression of democratic participation.” Zimbabwe’s civic space has increasingly come under scrutiny amid shrinking democratic freedoms, restrictive laws, and limited citizen participation. ZESN warned that if AI is deployed without clear oversight, it could further undermine public trust in elections and exacerbate existing inequalities in political participation. The Network called for the development of strong governance frameworks rooted in transparency, accountability, inclusion, protection of rights and active citizen participation. It said algorithms that influence elections must be subjected to independent audits and oversight to ensure they are free from bias and misuse. “Public trust in electoral processes depends on this,” ZESN said, adding that AI systems must promote inclusivity rather than create new barriers, particularly for marginalized communities such as women, youth and persons with disabilities. ZESN also echoed the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s stance that democratic progress is incomplete if it leaves anyone behind, urging stakeholders to ensure technology serves to empower rather than exclude. The organisation stressed that governance of AI cannot be left solely to experts or technocrats, and that citizens, political parties and civil society must be actively involved in shaping policies regulating AI. “As the UN theme ‘From Voice to Action’ suggests, collective voices must drive the necessary reforms to ensure that AI is a tool for good,” the Network said. Marking the 21st anniversary of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), ZESN reiterated that safeguarding Zimbabwe’s democracy in the digital age requires more than dialogue. It urged all stakeholders to move beyond conversations about AI’s potential and take concrete action to ensure technology strengthens democratic institutions and builds a more resilient and inclusive democracy. The third and fourth revolutions have been built on the foundations of the first two, particularly electricity. Automation and robotics are clearly children of the great invention called electricity, which remains inaccessible to over 600 million Africans to date. The United States led the world through the last industrial revolution. Today, the next frontier, clean energy, is being contested by the West and increasingly by China, which now dominates nearly 60% of the global electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain. But amid this global race lies a continent at a critical inflexion point: Africa. Often seen as a passive consumer in global energy systems, Africa must now seize the opportunity to become a producer of electric vehicles, clean energy, and industrial prosperity. The Hidden Cost of Fuel Dependency In 2023, Nigeria spent $18.7 billion on petroleum product imports. A relatively smaller country like Zimbabwe spends over $120 million per month on fuel imports, which amounts to more than $1.4 billion annually, or about a fifth of the country’s imports. That’s money exiting the economy in exchange for a commodity Africa could begin to replace with local, renewable power. Multiply this scenario across the continent, and the scale becomes clear: Africa collectively spends an estimated $80–100 billion annually importing fossil fuels. Meanwhile, it possesses over 60% of the world’s best solar potential and vast reserves of battery-critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and manganese. Yet these advantages remain largely underleveraged. Add to that the fragile nature of energy infrastructure—Africa is reportedly the continent with the fewest oil refineries—and it becomes clear that maintaining a fossil fuel-dependent transport model is both economically and strategically unsustainable. In an era of rising climate risk, currency volatility, and global supply chain fragmentation, energy sovereignty is no longer optional. It is essential. A $90 Billion Opportunity on the Horizon According to McKinsey, Africa’s vehicle fleet is expected to more than double by 2040, surpassing 90 million vehicles. If just 20% of these were electric by then, the continent would see demand for at least 18 million EVs, representing a market of around half a billion United States Dollars, assuming a conservative average vehicle cost of $25,000. In the shorter term, localising even 20% worth of EV-related value through assembly, battery integration, and public transit electrification over the next 10–15 years is a realistic and high-impact target that would translate into at least $100 billion in value creation. Some of this is already underway. In Kenya, startups like Roam (formerly Opibus) are deploying electric buses and motorcycles explicitly designed for African terrain and cost constraints. In Zimbabwe, Mobility for Africa is rolling out electric scooter rentals to support rural economies. Rwanda and Uganda are rolling out e-mobility platforms for taxis and last-mile logistics. South Africa is drafting a policy to attract EV manufacturing investments. Whilst all these activities show intent, they have not yet reached critical mass to make the desired impact. Also, momentum remains fragmented, underfunded, and policy-agnostic across most of the continent. EVs for the 99%, Not the 1% Africa’s EV revolution will not be driven by luxury SUVs. It will be built on sub-$25,000 vehicles—affordable electric tuk-tuks, utility vans, minibuses, and hybrid sedans tailored to local use cases. These vehicles must be rugged, affordable, and adaptable, able to operate on partial grids and uneven roads while minimising maintenance costs. They will power ride-hailing services in Lagos, cargo delivery in Kigali, and school transport in Bulawayo. As proof of capacity, Africa already has a plus $40 billion used car market, which is reportedly growing at a CAGR of +8%. The operational economics are already compelling. An electric minibus operating 150–200 kilometres daily in Nairobi can save $5,000–$7,000 annually on fuel costs alone. Over five years, that’s enough to cover the cost differential between an ICE and an EV, even before factoring in maintenance savings or lower carbon emissions. Plug-in and standard hybrids also have a critical transitional role, especially in regions with unreliable grid access. These offer low-emission transport while reducing pressure on nascent charging infrastructure. The goal is not ideological purity—it is energy resilience. The Trade Reset: A Strategic Opening for Africa The global trade order is being rewritten in real time. U.S. President Donald Trump has recently proposed sweeping ‘reciprocal’ tariffs on imported goods, signalling a sharp turn toward protectionism and economic decoupling. While this introduces volatility, it also creates a strategic window for Africa. As the U.S., EU, and their allies seek to de-risk supply chains and reduce dependence on Chinese critical minerals, Africa can reposition itself as a preferred partner in the global clean energy economy, from extraction to production to trade. This goes beyond mining. Countries that seize this moment—by formalising beneficiation policies, aligning with AfCFTA protocols, and negotiating industrial partnerships—can become embedded in the next-generation EV value chains, not merely as raw material exporters but as hubs of energy technology, mobility manufacturing, and sustainable growth. Policy Must Lead Governments must recognise that Africa’s electric vehicle transition cannot be left to market forces alone. It requires deliberate, coordinated policy to catalyse demand, de-risk private investment, and align industrial incentives. First, EVs and battery components should be exempt from import duties to reduce upfront costs and stimulate adoption. Public procurement can be a powerful tool—governments should prioritise electrifying city buses, municipal fleets, and public service vehicles to create anchor demand and signal long-term commitment. Additionally, investor-friendly incentives such as tax holidays, land grants, and low-interest financing can help establish domestic EV assembly and battery recycling hubs. Policies that mandate local content or mineral beneficiation in exchange for mining licenses should support these industrial zones. Integrating EVs into national energy plans, including standardising charging infrastructure and expanding solar mini-grids to support off-grid mobility, is just as important. Critically, all of this must be done under a unified strategy that connects energy, mining, transportation, and manufacturing into a single vision that builds resilience, creates jobs, and advances long-term energy sovereignty. Regional coordination is equally vital. The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), which connects the electricity grids of 12 SADC countries, presents a ready-made backbone for powering electric mobility across borders. While the region lacks adequate pipeline infrastructure—for instance, no petroleum pipeline connects Angola’s vast oil reserves to landlocked SADC countries—electricity can flow more easily across borders via the SAPP. This represents a strategic opportunity to build a shared electric future rather than doubling down on fragmented fossil infrastructure. Moreover, in cities like Harare, which has seen, by some estimates, 30% of households adopting rooftop solar systems due to chronic grid unreliability, there is now excess daytime power generation going unused. With the right policy frameworks and bi-directional charging technologies, these homes could become decentralised charging hubs for electric buses, delivery vehicles, or neighbourhood kombi service, turning a coping mechanism into a productive energy ecosystem. Build the Chain, Not Just the Car Africa controls 70% of global cobalt, over 50% of manganese, and growing reserves of lithium, nickel, and rare earths—minerals at the heart of the EV battery revolution. This is not to mention Africa’s immense solar radiation capacity. But today, most are exported raw with minimal value addition. That is unfortunate, and change only requires positive action. The next logical step is localising EV supply chains, from mineral processing to cell production to basic battery assembly. This creates jobs, builds skills, and strengthens fiscal capacity. With the right beneficiation mandates and regional cooperation, countries like Zimbabwe and the DRC could become net exporters of clean energy and clean transport. What’s in it for the developed economies? For Global Manufacturing, engaging Africa in the EV transition isn’t just about benevolence—it’s a strategic imperative. First, securing reliable access to critical minerals like cobalt, lithium, and rare earth elements is now a matter of national security, while ensuring some value addition is necessary. These resources power not just electric vehicles, but smartphones, defence systems, and the renewable grid. Second, Africa represents the last primary growth market for consumer vehicles and infrastructure-scale clean energy. As Western markets saturate, demand in Africa, where over 60% of the population is under 25, will shape the future of global mobility. Deeper investment in Africa will spur an African middle class that represents an even larger untapped market for global output. EV financing, fleet leasing, payment technologies, and grid integration are all domains where opportunities are still untapped. A new industrial dawn for Africa Africa’s EV transition is not just about mobility. It is a pathway to fiscal resilience, industrial growth, and shared prosperity. It is a chance to leapfrog into a future that is cleaner, fairer, and more economically inclusive. But this future will not build itself. It requires clear policy, bold investment, and integrated strategy—linking energy, transport, mining, and manufacturing into one cohesive vision. If done right, Africa will not be the last to industrialise in the clean energy era. It will be the first to do it right from the start The post Africa’s EV Moment: Driving Toward Energy Sovereignty and Industrial Growth appeared first on 263Chat. /africas-ev-moment-driving-toward-energy-sovereignty-and-industrial-growth/feed/ 1 105295 Zoho Corp Injects $15 Million into Zimbabwe’s Digital Future /zoho-corp-injects-15-million-into-zimbabwes-digital-future/ /zoho-corp-injects-15-million-into-zimbabwes-digital-future/#comments Wed, 30 Apr 2025 07:21:14 +0000 /?p=104950 Indian cloud software giant Zoho Corporation has announced a $15 million investment in Zimbabwe aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises (SMES) and large organisations. Universities are developing policies to regulate its use in education. According to Adiguzel, AI refers to machines and programs that mimic human Intelligence. Tools like ChatGPT are making significant strides by helping students with essay writing, grammar corrections, text summarization, and even social media content creation. As a Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (GPT), Chat GPT learns from vast amounts of data and adapts to human thinking patterns. AI-generated content may encourage plagiarism and reduce students’ ability to develop critical thinking skills. The Benefits of AI in Education AI offers several advantages, especially for students whose first language is not English. Tools like Chat GPT and Grammarly can assist students in improving their grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and academic writing. AI is equipping students with 21st-century skills and helping them develop their communication skills. The Challenges of AI in Education Despite the advantages of AI tools in higher education, there are a lot of challenges associated with AI. One of the most significant challenges in higher education is the issue of academic integrity due to AI’s ability to write students’ assignments and essays. There is potential for students to misuse AI tools to produce answers for their work, compromising academic honesty and ethics. Students are compromising their academic ethical responsibilities by writing assignments and other research papers solely using Artificial Intelligence. Research by Singh (2023) found that students are using AI technology to plagiarise and cheat when writing online examinations. Academic integrity in higher education is being challenged through the overuse of AI, as most plagiarism detection software cannot detect AI usage in students’ assignments. Misusing AI can result in poor writing skills, a lack of academic preparedness, and an over-reliance on technology, which may hinder students’ ability to learn independently. The Way Forward To address these concerns, African universities must develop policies that guide the ethical use of AI in education. Furthermore, free courses on artificial intelligence can be offered to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge. Educators must also develop their skills in artificial Intelligence to be better able to demystify the role of artificial Intelligence as a supplementary learning tool in education. One way to mitigate the risks of AI misuse is by emphasizing the ethical implications of plagiarism and requiring students to submit declarations that affirm the originality of their work. This approach could help balance the benefits of AI with the need to maintain academic integrity. I drove and caved into the unfathomable notion that I could text while driving too. Now for the average person, that's toying with danger. It was way better for both of us.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="; width="456" />

So here's hoping 2013 is filled with all the things you love, everything you hope for and none of the stuff you hated about 2012.

2013/01/up-up-and-away_19.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (2BSquared)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120191645600856910.post-7091395362523909819Thu, 20 Dec 2012 14:04:00 +00002012-12-20T08:04:55.422-06:002bsquaredhandwritten typemodern floralstorybookwedding invitationsDesign Sneak Peak: A Storybook

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="; width="400" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="; width="400" />

Available in my <a href="; target="_blank">etsy shop now.

2012/12/design-sneak-peak-storybook.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (2BSquared)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120191645600856910.post-3897765404464055132Mon, 17 Dec 2012 13:24:00 +00002012-12-17T07:26:31.089-06:00happy holidayswelcome to my worldA not so very merry
<img height="249" id="il_fi" src="; style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="320" />

Okay so my mailbox is starting to stack up with lots of pretty little envelopes filled with impossibly gorgeous photos of families exclaiming Joy, Merry Merry and Peace and Goodwill to all. As a greeting card designer... you'd think this would not illicit sweaty palms, panic or cold sweats. Ordinarily you'd be right. But you see this year... I fell a little behind. OKAY! I fell alot behind and didn't get to my own cards until super duper late. And because I was operating on design fumes this year, my cards are not only not overly inspiring in the design department, I sorta also forgot to put a very merry of any kind on them.

Oh yeah. In my design genius, I created a holiday card featuring a rather nice shot of my brood taken this summer with a lovely little watercolor treatment to match but forgot the really important part of the Christmas Card... the part about Christmas.

So dear reader if you happen to find, in your mailbox, a lovely picture of an oddly matched but not unattractive family of four at the beach minus a warm holiday hello. Please flip that baby over for a hastily dashed but a warmly sent very merry.

2012/12/a-not-so-very-merry.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (2BSquared)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120191645600856910.post-4183425259929619279Fri, 14 Dec 2012 18:47:00 +00002012-12-14T12:47:43.168-06:00christmas giftshappy holidayswelcome to my worldThe Case of the Traveling Pants
<img height="451" id="il_fi" src="; style="padding-bottom: 8px; padding-right: 8px; padding-top: 8px;" width="450" />

December is the craziest month of the year in my house. Aside from the fact that, I always feel like I am still stuffed from thanksgiving, lo and behold suddenly my days are supposed to be merry AND bright. Seriously. Wasn't Thanksgiving like yesterday? And just in case I am not quite one black Friday away from shopping overload it's also happens to be both my sons and my nephews birthdays. So it’s not only crazy, it ridiculously expensive. And just in case your wondering... nope we didnt even space all that shopping goodness out. The birthdays fall just days before and days after Christmas. Throw in a blooming little design business with last minute wedding and holiday orders ( all while prepping for a 10 hr road trip over the hills and thru the woods to Grandmas house) and by mid December I'm so broke, tired and foggy, a major meltdown of epic proportions is only a roll of forgotten wrapping paper away.

Or in this years case. You single handedly manage to purchase, wrap, unwrap, repurchase and wrap the wrong pants, not once but twice. Whose got that kind of skill? Apparently, this girl. *cue the jazz hands* UGH. This month of all months, should be filled with joyous celebration, instead it's ripe with vicious paper cuts and gift woes. Next year. I am starting early. Like Easter.

2012/12/the-case-of-traveling-pants.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (2BSquared)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6120191645600856910.post-1348388870526133908Thu, 29 Nov 2012 13:30:00 +00002012-11-29T08:17:17.310-06:00welcome to my worldConfessions of a Dangerously Minted Mind
<
