We stand for a life of freedom, without compromise, and believe that balance in life is doing world-class work at whatever we do. Sit in on conversations with world changers, learn from our team of professionals, and enjoy monologues meant to make you take a deep look at a single idea. episodic Active Life shaun.cleary@gmail.com false In this episode, Cody and Dr. Sean Pastuch unpack one of the most common questions they receive: what is Active Life—and why does it exist? Sean explains how the company was built to solve a massive gap between the fitness and healthcare industries, where people are often left feeling like they are the problem when they don’t fit into traditional systems. The conversation dives into the deeper issue of a “trust recession” in fitness, where low standards for education and inconsistent coaching leave clients frustrated and underserved. Sean contrasts the minimal requirements to become a trainer with the rigorous, high-friction education and apprenticeship model Active Life created to ensure real results. By the end, listeners gain a clear understanding of how Active Life positions itself as a solution—not just another gym or clinic. Through intentional client screening, high standards for coaches, and a results-driven system, the company aims to deliver outcomes that exceed expectations and rebuild trust in the process. 3fb6f40c-fa6c-4467-8efd-b11a730bc4ec Tue, 31 Mar 2026 05:49:00 GMT
In this episode, Cody and Dr.

While many coaches believe that more complexity equals more value, this conversation reveals why simplicity, clarity, and client understanding are actually the real drivers of results. The discussion dives into how coaches unintentionally lose client buy-in by using overly technical language, confusing assessments, or systems that clients can’t easily understand or explain. Sean explains why the best coaching systems are not just effective, but also easy to communicate — both for the coach and for the client trying to share their progress with others.By the end of the episode, listeners will understand how simplifying communication, focusing on outcomes clients care about, and building systems that are easy to follow can dramatically improve retention, results, and referrals. While many people believe progress starts with workouts or specific exercises, this conversation explains why long-term success actually begins with much more foundational elements like stress management, sleep, and lifestyle structure. The discussion explores how clients often arrive focused on surface-level goals like getting stronger, losing weight, or improving performance, while the deeper obstacles preventing progress live much lower in the hierarchy. Cody and Ken explain how coaches can help clients identify which layer of the hierarchy they’re currently struggling with, and why skipping foundational pieces often leads to frustration, setbacks, or stalled progress.By the end of the episode, listeners walk away with a clear understanding of how to use this hierarchy as a coaching tool to guide conversations, set realistic expectations, and help clients focus on the right priorities at the right time. While most coaches focus on programming and movement, Ken explains why the real transformation happens in the conversations — the words clients use, the stories they tell themselves, and the beliefs that quietly shape their identity. The discussion centers around chronic pain, setbacks, and the identity loop clients often get trapped in. From the reticular activating system to the “red vs. blue” perception exercise, Larry and Ken explain how attention shapes reality — and how coaches can interrupt destructive narratives before they spiral into fear, avoidance, and long-term regression. They emphasize why setbacks are not failures, but necessary milestones in building competence and confidence. The episode closes with practical tools coaches can implement immediately: proactive conversations about flare-ups, asking better questions about fear, and helping clients shift from running away from pain to running toward possibility. Sean walks through how the assessment was originally adapted from his clinical work and why the goal is not to watch a movement fail, but to predict how a movement will fail before loading ever occurs. The conversation breaks down the real limitations of screens such as the FMS when used with general population clients and even high-level athletes. Sean explains how skilled athletes can hide massive inefficiencies through compensation, creating false confidence and false negatives, while less skilled clients may fail screens simply because of coordination rather than true joint limitations. The group clarifies the difference between identifying a problem and having a usable path forward to solve it. The episode closes by showing how simple, low-skill, repeatable joint assessments create better client understanding, stronger buy-in, and ultimately better business outcomes for coaches. By using assessments to answer specific questions instead of gathering vague information, coaches can build more durable programs, reduce unnecessary risk, and create clearer stories clients can share with others—driving both results and referrals. 2befb6ba-2d4f-4d5f-bffe-44be5cf9afad Tue, 17 Feb 2026 07:35:00 GMT
In this episode, Sean and Cody explain why Active Life’s movement assessment deliberately avoids popular top-down screens like the overhead squat and instead relies on joint-level, bottom-up testing. The conversation walks through how to score the value of the problem you solve, how common that problem actually is, and how rare the market believes your solution to be. Once a client trusts you, they still need clarity around four specific dimensions before they feel ready to commit their time, money, and emotional energy to a meaningful process. This episode breaks down each of those certainties—what they mean, why they matter, and how to address them directly instead of hoping they resolve themselves. They start with certainty in themselves, exploring why clients often doubt their ability to follow through and why coaches must help them uncover their past successes, failures, support systems, and obstacles. From there, they move into certainty in the plan, walking listeners through the four-phase Active Life method—Assess, Develop, Ascend, Freedom—and how to tailor detail or simplicity depending on personality type. This proactive clarity helps clients visualize the journey and understand what long-term success will require. Finally, the conversation moves to certainty in support and certainty in the decision. Before any certainty can be built — before someone can believe you, follow your guidance, or buy from you — they must trust you. The conversation begins by clarifying why trust must precede certainty, and why even the most logical clients won’t hear you until they first believe in your intentions. They then dive deep into the Four Pillars of Trust: propriety, commonality, credibility, and intent. Using detailed examples — from the impression your clothing makes, to how you relate authentically to clients, to knowing when to confidently say “I don’t know” — the hosts show exactly how coaches, trainers, and service professionals can earn trust intentionally rather than hoping it forms by accident. These are the same interpersonal skills that separate average coaches from professionals capable of leading meaningful behavior change. Finally, Larry and Cody discuss the real-world application of these pillars inside Active Life’s coaching and enrollment systems. They talk about how intent shapes energy, how desperation can be sensed even subconsciously, and how the best sales conversations come from unbiased advocacy — guiding people toward the right solution, not just a sale.

The episode closes with a powerful reminder: mastering human connection isn’t just good for business — it’s essential for becoming a true professional.
false 00:28:58 full In this episode, Larry sits down with Mary to break down one of the biggest problems facing the United States today: the chronic pain epidemic. Even with over a million personal trainers, hundreds of thousands of clinicians, and countless medical institutions, people are still falling through the cracks — stuck between incomplete medical discharge and a fitness industry unprepared to handle their limitations. Mary and Larry explain how this “gray zone” traps millions, leaving them unsure where to turn next. They discuss why so many people are told “this is as good as it gets,” and why that message is almost never true. From painkillers to braces, orthotics to modified gym routines, they outline how tools meant to be temporary often become permanent when there is no professional capable of guiding people out of pain. The pair break down the Active Life view that chronic pain resolution requires active participation — physical, mental, and environmental changes that create adaptations, not dependency. Finally, Mary shares the larger vision: a world in which people understand that living with chronic pain is a choice — but only when supported by professionals trained to guide the full journey. They explore the need for thousands more ALPs (Active Life Professionals), the gap after physical therapy where most people regress, and how Active Life’s dual mission (education + brick-and-mortar locations) will reshape the future of pain resolution. 712de6a4-569f-4d16-b0b6-b3ce764de742 Tue, 25 Nov 2025 06:44:00 GMT
In this episode, Larry sits down with Mary to break down one of the biggest problems facing the United States today: the chronic pain epidemic.
