As a response to ‘Cocktail’, a provocation delivered by the students from the University of Essex – in keeping with the curatorial strategy created for the series of three One Night Stands events – the MA CWCP Chelsea students invite you to a show where the works combine to create a space for reflection on the often ambiguous engagement with artworks at a private view. The provocation given to them was to take into account the nature of time-specificity.

List of artists and artworks:

- David Thomas Crawley: Born in Liverpool and living in Nottingham. Save Favorites – Keep the popular and obscure hourly and daily news programs in one place. PlayMix – Sort your Favorites into your own personalized radio “station.” Start playing shows from anywhere in your PlayMix and the app will just keep playing until it plays through all the latest episodes. Sleep Timer – Bottom right. Works with all audio option. No Digital Ads – No more full screen or banner on-screen ads. (All the audio ads are placed by the audio content producers, so we can’t do anything about that … well, you can always press the skip ahead 30 seconds button.) Search – As our highly curated library grows, this is a quick way to dig in. All the audio programming in our app is free via podcasting, but often hard to find. Finding the best news podcasts to then quickly play today’s episode is more difficult. While you can use popular podcast apps to find news like Spotify’s popular news and politics, Apple Podcast’s daily news category and others, there is one news podcasts app that specializes in finding today’s news from the popular media sources. It’s 1 Radio News. (on Android) Our philosophy is simple – when it comes to “news” you want new news. You don’t want yesterday’s news and you don’t want to spend 10 minutes trying to find the “right” 10 minutes of news. You want to quickly “change the station” if you want something different. How is 1 Radio News a news podcasts player? Unlike your typical podcast app, as news lover, you don’t have to do this: Search for a news podcast Select the news podcast of interest Subscribe to the news podcast Pick which episode you want to listen to Download that episode Play the episode Listen When we started 10 years ago, we imagined pre-set buttons on your car radio, just press a button to change the channel and listen. So with 1 Radio News, IF you are looking for the latest hourly news, you just open the app: Scroll and press one button for the news source of interest Listen OK, there are more options: Starting in your regional/national “Edition” Scroll down and press the button of interest to play OR Swipe to over to HOURLY or SHOWS (daily) to the right for many global news sources in English Press a button and listen You may also swipe to the left for dozens of LIVE news radio (and some TV audio) channels. Scroll down for “Easter eggs” with spoken-word radio channels including comedy. Also, to the right, we have the bonus “SHORTS” section which highlights daily (M-F) short podcasts from Dad jokes to words of the day to today in history. Can I subscribe/follow specific news podcasts on 1 Radio News? Yes! Try out our “Pro” level and support our extensive curation and app development. Here is how it works with Pro: Favorite the news podcasts (and live stations) you like. Pro activates the Search option as well. On the far left see “PLAYMIX” and sort your Favorites (from the LIST view you toggle on the top right) Press the Green Play All button on the bottom right. Or play an individual podcast. By sorting your favorites, you are practically programming your own daily radio station. We pioneered our easier to use “play all” concept five years before Amazon Alexa’s Flash briefings and Google Assistant’s news settings. We also have far more daily news podcasts available for your “play all” experience and not just hourly headlines. Finally, if you like listening to older news content or really want to know what’s in the episode before you listen, we do recommend that you use your traditional podcast app. Try 1 Radio News to see what we’ve discovered deep across the podcast world – that vitally still produce fresh content – and then search the ones you like best in your everyday podcast app to follow those new sources. Use 1 Radio News when you want to quickly play the latest news and other podcast players when you have extra time on your hand to go through lots of episodes to find the news topics that interest you most. We specialize in curating global news podcasts in English as well as a great collection of national news podcasts from the United States. We’ve spent HUNDREDS of hours sourcing hourly, daily, and live radio news for you so you can just press play and listen to headline from around the world in English. BUT sometimes you might be craving video. In fact, for those who remember the shortwave era, today all audio in general is secondary investment wise for “world services” or “external services.” Many more countries produce video to share their news, culture, and perspectives for global audiences. So here are our tips for super world news junkies: Install the TV News App on Android or the TV News Channel app on iOS. Set Favorites during the set up. Go to the ALL section and use the bottom filters. On the bottom left is “Region.” Buried in there is the option called “World Services.” Select it. Then on the right choose English or the Language or interest. Favorite a bunch of channels. From Mongolia and Thailand to Ukraine and France, you’ll find daily news in English. When you open the app “YOUR MIX” will show you the NEW video from the last 8 hours just from your Favs. Use the filters on the bottom to increase the number of videos per channel to 5 and the time frame up to 48 hours. Like our 1 Radio News app, our focus is squarely on NEW news from quality sources. Oh, our TV News App has nearly 3,000 channels in 100 languages from most countries. We dig deep into YouTube and leverage their API and terms of services to bring what’s buried and fresh from just minutes ago to you. Years before Amazon’s Alexa brought us the flash briefing, the original 1 Radio News made it simple to just play hourly news headlines. Over the years we added daily news shows and then live news radio streams in English from around the world. We remain the only Android “podcast” app that finds all the daily news sources for you and let’s you quickly play the latest episode by pressing one button. We’re the quickest way to change the channel! We know that most of you just want the “new” news and that’s what we deliver. Then came the first version of Pro with the “Play Mix” where you essentially sort your favorites into your own almost live radio station. A few years ago, we rebuilt 1 Radio News from scratch and now you can support our ongoing curation efforts and access the search, sleep timer, and Play Mix with subscription or one-time purchase within our free app As we gear up for our anniversary, we’ve just completed round one of our global refresh adding new daily news podcasts from more countries. They are sorted under SHOWS following the international dateline in a Pacific and working our way around the world. We added some extra smarts to our podcast feed reader and now we’ve added more than a dozen “shortwave” programs in English from countries as diverse as Zambia, Nepal, Algeria and CubaDig in and discover global perspectives with NEW content Monday-Friday from most shows in the app. The rest of the year, we are exploring new featured for our Pro supporters. We decided that unlike our previous version that all the live, hourly, and daily news programming would be FREE (it was always free somewhere) via the app. Now there is so much, you go Pro for search and the Play Mix to make it easy to find your favorites. As always, we appreciate your feedback and ideas for the app! Pro features are now being unleashed one by one as well. UPDATE 1: Good news! We reached our $1000 pledge drive goal to rebuild 1 Radio News. Thank you to our first 40 donors, you made this happen. Your $5 and $20 donations got us to the top. I also want to share an especially heartfelt thanks to James Tedford who donated the last $173 we needed to reach our goal on our deadline date and for his previous early donation of $250. These two donations and an anonymous donation of $150 brought us over half the way. Thank you! Additional donations will be used to add NEW mostly Pro-level features – on our list in no promised order are a radio Alarm Clock, Chromecast support, Android Auto version, basic voice commands, etc. Work on the rebuild will start with replicating the free version of 1 Radio News and all donors will be invited in to help as Beta testers as we unveil and test the more complicated Pro features one by one. “Pro” will become an in-app subscription within the free 1 Radio News. As promised, a special Pro subscription for the life of the app will be given to donors of any amount (at least a $40 value). If you want to donate now for that special deal, do it! … 1 Radio News needs your help. Our app needs to be rebuilt after seven years of service. The code base can no longer be patch up with gum. Donate here to save 1 Radio News via GoFundMe. I promised my family, that 1 Radio News must cover its own costs and essentially not tap my kid’s education funds. It has never covered my time, but I love buy soma from trusted pharmacy this app and use it everyday myself. It’s good news that we will continue to generate enough revenue to maintain the app. However, we must secure your listener support to completely rebuild the app to make it compatible with the latest versions of Android and add some new features. (Yes, we will fix the stability problems for all you Android 9 users!!) We need to raise at least $1000 to pay my new developer. If you help us raise that amount, I’ll put any extra needed on my credit card to get it done. Donate here to improve 1 Radio News via GoFundMe. More good news, we’ve already raised $330 from six donors. Please join them now. All donors – at any amount – will get a free life-time of the app subscription to the new 1 Radio News “Pro” level (a $39 value). Going forward, our Pro supporter will be invited to support an ever improving app on a monthly or yearly basis if you’d rather not pitch in now. With a regular in-app subscription we will have a way to invest in new features and grow a more up to date directory of today’s freshest news podcasts and live streams. Our app will focus on solid curation and perhaps even add languages based on requests from in-app subscribers. The current “pay once” 1 Radio News Pro app will be retired before the end of 2020. If you haven’t gotten your $3 in value, let me know and I will gladly refund you even if you used it every day for seven years. What happens if we don’t raise $1000. The app will shut down. It’s been a great ride world radio fans!! Donate here to be an awesome 1 Radio News supporter via GoFundMe. The post 1 Radio News is dead. If yes, donate here today via PayPal.** Your support is vital. With just 1,000 active Pro users each month, we need every loyal user that can afford it to donate something if we are to improve this app and to maintain the constantly changing playlist. International radio news interest is an extremely niche interest and the work required cannot be covered by a one-time app price. Revenue from Pro sales and ads on the Free version are only covering 10% of our software development and support time costs. All the revenue is being invested back into tech “maintenance” and I’ve eaten the over $100,000 in time costs over the last three years. So to get the new features you want, we need your help now. The next update will also squash the top three crash causing bugs on both the Free and Pro versions. Another huge fix is a massive reduction in data use with the Play-All feature. We’ve also adapted our tech to better play the English-language podcasts from India’s national public broadcaster. Crowdfunding the future 1 Radio News – Together we can build this Anyone donating any amount now to our crowdfunding effort will get access to a free lifetime subscription to the future all-new 1 Radio in late 2018. This is a limited time offer. While updates to the current 1 Radio News Pro playlist will continue for at least another full year, a future amazing rebuilt from scratch 1 Radio will switch to a $2 (or less) monthly subscription for premium features and a larger directory. We need at least $3,000 a monthly in revenue and not $300 to continue this labor of love. What we do better than anyone in the world is find, review, and sort the best hourly, daily and weekly news and analysis audio content on-demand. We will bring our master curation to new languages and more local news headlines as well. To keep this app going, the couple thousand people on Android who really really love news radio who both bought the Pro app and use it regularly need to band to together to make this a viable small business. Might the next version of the app attract tens of thousands of subscribers, maybe, but I doubt it. But if there are 1,000 of you willing to pay $2 a month, we can keep this radio train moving! So donate any amount today and consider a monthly donation. Our goal is to raise $1,000 for these two new priority features and $10,000 for the full rebuild. If you’d like to invest in a future matching fund or explore opportunities to take 1 Radio to 1 million downloads, please get in touch. Thanks, Steven Clift – Contact me. 1 Radio News Guy * The better player plans include a playing now progress bar where you can forward or rewind to a specific point in a show, a ten second rewind button, and playing time information. This way if you need to come back to a longer on-demand show you can skip ahead. With enough support, we are considering adding a skip feature you can use with Play-All and your favorites PlayMix to jump to the next show as well as the option to speed up or slow down on-demand audio. ** Donations are not tax deductible for this is simply a small business that is more of a subsidized hobby with the potential for more. The post New Features? COME ON!
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="; />

Emil Henry at Politico writes:

<a href=" Case for Mitt Romney in 2016: I’m absolutely serious.

-----

Here's my take:

Mitt Romney's mendacity was breathtaking in its scope. He's a sociopath -- someone who thinks he's entitled to whatever he wants, regardless of consequences. Someone who thinks the rules don't apply to him.

He went far behind the usual salesmanship of political speech. He changed his positions on every major issue to move from the moderate who governed Massachusetts to the "severe conservative" who wanted to be President.

He even turned his back on his own signature achievement -- Obamacare was just fine to Romney when it was called Romneycare.

And if you really want to see why Romney doesn't deserve the office, consider this:

1 -- "Corporations ARE people, my friend."

2 -- "I like being able to fire people."

3 -- "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what… These are people who pay no income tax..."[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

4 -- And finally, his performance at the "Benghazi" press conference. The self-satisfied smirk he showed as he walked away from the podium -- that he was GLAD that Americans had died because he thought it was going to deliver the White House to him -- showed better than words why Romney should not be trusted with high office. Ever.
2014/07/the-case-for-mitt-romney-in-2016-come-on.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (1st Republic 14th Star)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18970194.post-1929318381026489486Tue, 01 Jul 2014 00:05:00 +00002014-06-30T20:05:37.917-04:00The more things change...
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="; />

<a href=" commenter posted on Media Matters today about elections having consequences, and more Democrats in office being necessary to counter Republican policies. Here's my response:

-----

I'll take the "con" view on this one.

Elections seem to me to be irrelevant.

No matter who wins, the circumstances don't change. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the middle class gets ever smaller.

In 2006 and 2008 Democrats begged for support so they could retake the House and up their majority in the Senate. They promised to end the excesses of the Bush junta. Then when they won, the first thing they did was announce that there'd be no investigations, no hearings, no impeachment. Oh no -- "we're looking forwards, not backwards." Then they got crushed in 2010.

When Democrats win, it's a fair bet that either Republicans will just say that THEY won, and then claim the prize. Or the Democrats who win are basically Republican-lite. Or the Democrats who win are milquetoasts who roll over for everything Republicans want.

We're told that EVERY election is "the most important" one. But as far as I can tell, no matter who wins, there's not much difference in peoples' lives.

Oh, sure -- Clinton and Obama were better than Bush. Under Obama, Bin Laden is dead. The Benghazi attackers are being brought to justice. Clinton showed us the way to a balanced budget and a pay down of the national debt. But let's be honest -- they do just enough to keep us from completely giving up hope that liberal and progressive policies will be enacted.

Bill Clinton played a role in NAFTA and GATT and proclaimed that "the era of big government is over" and went along with the Defense of Marriage Act.

Obama says he admires Ronald Reagan and tries to compromise with Republicans to the point that he compromises with himself in trying to get them to agree to something -- ANYTHING -- just so he can call it bipartisan.

Obama took a much smaller stimulus package than was needed for the economy. He refused to consider single payer health care right out of the gate -- didn't even make Republicans give him something in exchange for giving up single payer. And all the Republicans voted NO on the plan they said they wanted. But they got to keep the concessions Obama had made to them.

Obama continues with the worst excesses of the Bush "war on terror" including drone strikes based on who knows what evidence, if any, the continued operation of the prison at Guantanamo, and the continued re-authorization of the Patriot Act.

So are Obama and Clinton better than Bush or McCain or Romney. Sure. But that's damning with faint praise.

People support liberal and progressive policies. And we don't get them. No matter who's in charge. In fact, the reverse is true -- we're not only NOT making progress, we're regressing. Alito and Roberts are going to take us back to the Gilded Age before they're done.

And Democrats will either be helping, or will be wailing "oh, if only we had 60 votes in the Senate!" And if they had 60, they'd want 70. And if they had 70, they'd want 99. And if they had 99, that one Republican would still be running the show as the 99 Democrats tried to out-compromise each other in their quest for bipartisanship.

So, in short, I've decided that elections really don't matter that much -- I see them as kind of the difference between going back to the 1870s incrementally, or doing it all at once. We're going to go -- it's just a question of how long it will take.
2014/06/the-more-things-change.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (1st Republic 14th Star)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18970194.post-3347150798563809835Wed, 09 Apr 2014 23:31:00 +00002014-04-09T19:33:01.168-04:00Jim DeMint might be the stupidest Senator ever
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="; />

Honestly -- Jim DeMint, former U.S. Senator from South Carolina, might be the stupidest person to ever serve in the Senate. And that's saying something. Just read this stupid shit:

From Hunter at <a href=" Daily Kos:

<a href=" DeMint grumbles that 'big government' didn't free the slaves

"Well the reason that the slaves were eventually freed was the Constitution, it was like the conscience of the American people. Unfortunately there were some court decisions like Dred Scott and others that defined some people as property, but the Constitution kept calling us back to ‘all men are created equal and we have inalienable rights’ in the minds of God. But a lot of the move to free the slaves came from the people, it did not come from the federal government. It came from a growing movement among the people, particularly people of faith, that this was wrong. People like [British abolitionist William Wilberforce] who persisted for years because of his faith and because of his love for people. So no liberal is going to win a debate that big government freed the slaves. In fact, it was Abraham Lincoln, the very first Republican, who took this on as a cause and a lot of it was based on a love in his heart that comes from God."

-----

Are you FUCKING KIDDING ME?

Where do I begin?

First, in the 1860s, the Republicans, the party of Lincoln, were the party that advocated expanded government powers to build infrastructure, negotiate trade agreements, collect customs, acquire territory, protect borders, etc. Oh, yeah -- and FREE THE SLAVES!

In those days, the Democrats were the party of "limited government" and "small government" and "states' rights." By which they meant "keep your Republican hands off my nig*ers."

It wasn't until the 1930s that the Democrats started to increasingly be identified with civil rights for African-Americans, a transformation that was complete by the 1960s. Father Jonathan Morris told Fox & Friends Sunday that the Darren Aronofsky-directed film “missed the mark” by not telling the story from the point of view of faith and will “pay dearly for it,” though he did not specify whether that meant in the eyes on the Lord or at the hands of consumers.

“You know, it’s a classic case of the book is much better than the movie,” Morris said Sunday morning, saying he was “disappointed” in the film because it could have been so “awesome.” Fox’s Anna Kooiman noted that Christians have been “up in arms” over the movie while “environmentalists are excited about it.”

According to Morris, God, who is only referred to as “the creator” in the film, comes off as an “impersonal force that tells you to do crazy things,” while Noah seems “borderline schizophrenic.” And as for the initial box office numbers, he said Noah’s $40 million weekend “pales in comparison” to the opening weekend of The Passion of the Christ, which holds the record for the best-ever winter number of $83.8 million.

“Great actors, and a great director, but just wrong starting point,” Morris concluded. “Didn’t start from the point of view of faith.”

-----

My take:

I'm upset with the film producers for giving in to the "protesters" and adding a disclaimer in the first place.

WHO says there's only one version of the story of Noah, and that only that story can be turned into a movie?

Events and questions are SUPPOSED TO BE thought about, imagined, and explored. That's the only way we can arrive at an understanding of what they mean.

Let me use "The Last Temptation of Christ" as an example. Protesters showed up to complain about the final scenes in which a delirious and about to die Jesus imagines that he uses his powers to come down from the cross. He gets married, has a family, and lives a normal life. He meets Paul preaching the good news of Jesus and tells Paul that none of those things happened. Paul tells Jesus that it doesn't matter, because the story of Jesus' birth, death and resurrection is powerful enough to attract converts even if it isn't true.

That's the point where Jesus realizes that it's just a vision -- the normal life and the wife and the children were the "final temptation," presented by Satan, trying to keep Jesus from fulfilling his earthly mission. Now understanding that he's being tempted, he resists, the vision ends, and Jesus completes his divine mission by dying on the cross.

I can't imagine why anyone would be upset. The question of how Jesus could be both divine AND mortal is THE central question of the entire Christian faith.

If Jesus was the son of God, came to earth as a man in order to be tested to see if he could live a blameless life and die to redeem mankind for its sins, and if he knew who he really was, then the life he led wasn't a test. He would have known that he couldn't be tempted, he would never have sinned, and completing his divine mission would not have been a challenge.

On the other hand, if Jesus was a man, he would have been tempted like any other man, he would have given in and sinned, his life would not have been blameless, and mankind would not have been redeemed in the eyes of God.

So, in order to make sense of the central tenet of the entire Christian faith, the question of how Jesus could be BOTH divine AND human can't just be accepted at face value -- "it's so because I say it's so." It MUST be explored. If it's not explored, it can't be made sense of in a way that enables the faith to continue.

That's why books and films like "The Last Temptation of Christ" help consider the possibilities and come up with explanations.

I'd say it's the same with Noah and the Ark or any other story from the Bible or the traditions of any other faith. "It's so because I say it's so" isn't enough. If people are going to adhere to a faith, they need to be able to make sense of its tenets by thinking critically about them and exploring the possibilities.

So, pay the protesters little heed. Do the research and the thinking and the imagining if you're going to make sense of a religion.
2014/04/dont-blindly-accept-your-faith.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (1st Republic 14th Star)1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18970194.post-6068339578901216492Wed, 26 Mar 2014 00:50:00 +00002014-03-25T20:50:19.066-04:00Donald Rumsfeld -- it doesn't matter what you think
AND you're a racist

<a href=" the Huffington Post:

<a href=" Rumsfeld: 'A Trained Ape' Would Be Better At Foreign Policy Than Obama

First, you're the guy who kissed Saddam's ring and then said he was the personification of pure evil and needed to be eliminated. Pearce smiled as his one-time ally in the 1070 fight, Arizona State Rep. John Kavanagh, began his set asking, "How many Hispanics did you pull over on the way over here, Arpaio?" Where did the 2nd Amendment come from? I ask my students this; I ask men’s groups. I ask, ‘Where did the 21nd Amendment come from?’”

Boykin, in a somewhat comic voice, replied: “ ‘From the Founding Fathers! It’s in the Constitution!’

“Well, yeah, I know that. They were not meant to be used, but to be SEEN.

The swords were meant to show the fulfillment of a prophecy.

<a href=" 53:12 said that the Messiah would be arrested as a common criminal.

Jesus had his followers procure two swords so that his group of disciples and he would appear to be criminals when they were in Jerusalem for Passover, thus providing "proof" that Isaiah's prophecy had been fulfilled.

You can be sure that Boykin is wrong, because when one of the disciples used one of the swords -- Peter cut off the ear of the high priest's servant in Gethsemene when Jesus was arrested -- Jesus immediately rebuked Peter, told him to put the sword away, and restored the servant's ear.

In order to be seen as criminals, Jesus and his followers didn't have to commit actual criminal acts. That's why Jesus stopped Peter instead of allowing him to continue fighting. In addition, not fighting enabled the faster arrest of Jesus and faster fulfillment of his earthly mission. If he had resisted and fled, he wouldn't have been tried, executed and risen from the dead "on schedule."

You can also be sure that Boykin is wrong because none of the disciples is recorded as ever having resorted to violence after the death of Jesus, even when arrested, jailed and martyred.

Citing one Bible verse is often misleading. Jack Keane claimed Gates' memoir showed "President Bush wanted to win and President Obama, simply put, wanted to get out.""

-----

And that, simply put, is the fundamental problem with the conservative American view of how to use a military.

This mindset is why John McCain's solution to insurgents operating in Fallujah in 2014 is to go back to 2008 -- recall Petraeus to active duty and send in the troops.

It's why Air Force General Robin Olds, as decorated and capable a tactical commander as the Air Force could produce, could visit Lyndon Johnson in the late 1960s and tell him the solution in Vietnam was "just win the damned thing."

The problem is that it doesn't occur to these individuals to wonder what "winning" means in the strategic sense.

Tactically, all Robin Olds had to do is use his planes, guns and missiles to defeat North Vietnamese planes, guns and missiles. The problem is that the supposed strategic political objective -- a South Vietnam capable of fending for itself and spreading democracy -- was unachievable. NO ONE except US policymakers believed South Vietnam would ever become a strong, effective bulwark of democracy -- and most of the individuals making the policy didn't believe it either. If the US wanted, we could still be in South Vietnam, still militarily defeating the North Vietnamese and the Vietcong, and the strategic picture would still be the same -- North Vietnam would still be there, and South Vietnam would be pretty much a client state of the US.

Tactically, all the US had to do in Fallujah was surround the city, engage in combat with the insurgents, and either kill them or run them out of town. In the strategic sense, what did that short term tactical victory help accomplish? NOTHING. I served in Iraq, and I can't tell you what the Bush administration's strategic objective there was.

Now it's the same in Afghanistan. Jack Keane thinks all we have to do is "win." He isn't going to tell you what "win" means, though -- because he CAN'T. The US can destroy Al Qaeda and the Taliban and anyone else who opposes the Karzai government or its successor, and strategically it will not matter.

I've written about this concept several times before, and I just don't understand how the likes of Jack Keane get to be four star generals without realizing this basic concept -- first, tactical military operations should be conducted only to further accomplishment of a strategic national objective.

Second, there are only two sensible ways to conduct those tactical military operations, short of having to defend your own territory because you've been invaded:

1 -- A mission of short time and limited objective, after which you return home. Example: Invade Iraq, topple Saddam Husein because he's an evil dictator, and then go home.

Example: Destroy Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan in response to the 9-11 attacks, and then go home.

2 -- Occupy every square inch of the country you're operating in, and plan to do it for as far into the future as you can see, so that you can impose your will.

Anything less than those two methods will result in a slow bleed -- the expenditure of blood and treasure that accomplishes nothing of national strategic value.

What we end up with when the Keanes and the McCains and the Oldses have their way is circular logic:

1 -- We have to stay because things are bad here, and we need to make them good.

2 -- We have to stay because things are good here, and if we leave, they'll get bad.

It becomes an endless loop -- we're staying because we can't leave, and we're not leaving because we have to stay.

And now McCain and Keane are adding a new wrinkle -- once we finally extricate ourselves from something we should have never done in the first place because it had no clearly defined strategic objective, LET'S GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN!

Are you kidding me?

Save all of us in uniform from such "strategic" thinking.
2014/01/save-us-from-these-strategists.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (1st Republic 14th Star)1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18970194.post-3675784804598546011Sat, 28 Dec 2013 01:46:00 +00002013-12-28T18:05:50.588-05:00Why Do Conservatives Call Themselves Christians?
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="; />

I don't understand why conservatives claim to be Christians.

The Nativity is the story of a young woman who gets knocked up before marriage – apparently a “slut” who expects everyone else to pay for her birth control. Not only that – she then tricks a man who isn't even the father into supporting her.

Mary and the tricked Joseph then travel to Bethlehem, where they freeload like typical lazy poor people by sleeping in a barn instead of getting jobs and paying for a hotel room.

After that, they con three job creators into giving them expensive gifts that they can trade, presumably for drugs.

After THAT they prove their status as members of the lazy 47 percent by becoming illegal aliens in Egypt. I presume that Joseph would have worked as a carpenter and taken a job away from a God-fearing, hard-working, flag-waving, conservative Egyptian, except that he was a lazy immigrant – you know how THEY are.

Joseph and Mary later make their way to Narareth, where their son becomes a long-haired, sandal-wearing hippy, preaching peace and love and turning the other cheek and not “Second Amendment remedies” and "stand your ground" and “preemptive strikes.”

As an adult, Jesus quits his job and wanders the countryside, proving that he’s one of the lazy liberals who want “free stuff” by sponging off friends and acquaintances instead of getting a job and working hard. He demonstrates his commitment to communistic anti-government activities by hanging out with prostitutes, tax collectors, and other disreputable people.

During one of his socialistic lectures, he displays a bent towards fascism AND communism by ordering everyone to put all their food together into one basket. He then “redistributes” the food without regard to who which “makers” produced it and which “takers” lazily expect to be fed for free.

Further displaying his socialistic tendencies, he performs healings, but he doesn't ask for payment – not even a co-pay!

In another of his communistic lectures, he tells the job creators that they should give away all their "hard-earned" wealth to the poor. He tells his followers that if they want to demonstrate their commitment to his communistic teachings, they have to give everyone food, health care, shelter and compassion regardless of their circumstances. He tells them that if they do this, their reward is that they get to live in his father’s house, where they get to obtain more “free stuff” forever.

Eventually he vandalizes a house of worship, demonstrating that he has no respect for conservative, establishment institutions. The authorities demonstrate their commitment to “law and order” by arresting him and then summarily executing him for his communistic sedition.

After he dies, his friends fan out to set up communes where the adherents of his socialist doctrine share everything they have with everyone else.

What’s for conservatives to like?
2013/12/why-do-conservatives-call-themselves.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (1st Republic 14th Star)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18970194.post-2936550549148761314Mon, 23 Dec 2013 23:35:00 +00002013-12-23T18:42:46.104-05:00Mike Huckabee: Practice What You Preach
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="; />

From <a href=" and Liars:

<a href=": Most Christians Like Me are Respectful and Tolerant of Those Militant Homosexuals

-----

Tell the Dixie Chicks and Martin Bashir all about "free speech."
