At the end of the day all of those boxes were checked and then some. Dirty Double is one of the best trail races I've ever been a part of. From the volunteers to the variety of the course, everything was top notch but still very low-key and laid back. Unlike many courses which may be held in one park/natural area, Dirty Double utilizes about six different parks located throughout South Knoxville collectively known as the Urban Wilderness. This makes for a mix of singletrack, doubletrack, dirt road, and suburban neighborhood throughout the whole course with around 2,500ft of elevation gained primarily through countless "micro" hills.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="; height="298" width="400" />

1st across the line, 3hr54min

If you'd like a little beta for the course you can check out my garmin info for the day <a href="; target="_blank">here.

<a href="; target="_blank">Full Results

Gear List:

Generic Tech T

Camelbak Octane LR 70

TNF Better Than Naked Short

Smartwool PhD Graduated Compression Light Cushion Socks

Salomon S-LAB XT6

2014/03/dirty-double-trail-marathon.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-3069056973048067075Fri, 06 Sep 2013 10:29:00 +00002013-09-06T06:29:41.982-04:00Norris Dam Hard 50kNorris Dam Hard 50k elevation profileRace ReportNorris Dam Hard 50k 2013
<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="278" src="; width="640" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="; width="400" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="; width="426" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="; width="266" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="; width="400" />

Chances are, if you don't get lost or injured, you will do pretty well at this race. Between the 25k and 50k races there were around 75 participants, more than a handful took a detour, a very small number ate dirt and needed stitches in unmentionable places. I managed to stay upright and avoid getting lost, so I ended up winning in a time of 5hr1min. Not a screaming fast race by any measure, but the course is unrelenting if nothing else.

For those considering running this race I would recommend it, if you're prepared to walk and have the race take a little longer than you expect. With the exception of one section ( photo below the course map) the course is steep and rocky in places but not unsafe. It is well marked and most folks that got lost I think did so because there were course changes this year, not because of lack of flagging. For the number of participants I did seem to here an inordinate amount of carnage stories, but other than the pictured section above I don't know exactly what to attribute that to. Overall, this is a challenging low-key ultra with very enthusiastic volunteers who help make the atmosphere of the race very fun.2013/09/norris-dam-hard-50k-2013.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-4934705591174118846Sun, 30 Jun 2013 10:34:00 +00002013-07-04T20:30:32.971-04:00Bone ValleyHazel CreekSULNew Pack Shakedown
Clingmans Dome-Bone Valley-Cades Cove
2 days 35 miles

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="; width="400" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="; width="300" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="; width="400" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

Welch Ridge "trail"

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="; width="240" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

Tenkara fishing on Hazel Creek

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

Dad trying to maintain dry feet

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

Dry feet did not last

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

A steep piece of Jenkins Ridge

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="242" src="; width="640" />

Spence Field

Tested out an exciting piece of gear on this trip. It was a perfectly warm day, with wildflowers lining the road, and little to know traffic due to time of day, year, and the fact that US 441 was closed past Newfound Gap. Caitlin had engagements with friends, I had engagements with my bicycle and then the brewery.

I think about this ride a lot because the 15 miles I rode up to Newfound Gap were some of the longest miles of my life. Time was at a near stand still. I reached an empty parking lot at the Gap, save one other cyclist. We shot the bull and then rode down together averaging a speed that rivaled the fastest I've ever gone on my bike.

And the pace has been relentless since then. After a lost round of trivia at the brewery, I checked my phone and realized I had a missed call or two (phones are not allowed at trivia) from Caitlin. A weekly pregnancy check up at the doctor ended with the news that she could go into labor at any minute... and that evening she did. Two days later we met Silas Miller Worth.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="; width="320" />

Day 1

Since that time I've managed to run a little, but I think my training has been more specific to maybe running <a href="; target="_blank">barkley due to the continual sleep deprivation of raising a newborn. My big goal this summer/fall is to finish out all the trails in Smokies ( or at least make significant headway). A few of these trips will require nights out so I've been putting together a new overnight setup that I think will allow me to hike and run without being totally weighed down. There are still a bunch of tweaks to be made but I'm shooting for a total of 7-10lbs for pack weight. Hopefully, a few long overnight trips combined with my weekly base miles will allow me to take on a few longer running projects this fall. There are never any guarantees though, especially now, with my energy often being diverted to more people and things than I'm accustomed to. At the moment, any day I can sneak in even the shortest of runs is a good day.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="; width="320" />

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="212" src="; width="320" />

Hanging out w/ Grandad at 9 weeks old

2013/06/back-at-it.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-8042610149872642212Thu, 07 Mar 2013 18:08:00 +00002013-03-07T13:08:59.404-05:00Asheville MarathonBiltmore MarathonMarathon BonkRunning in the coldBiltmore Marathon Race ReportI remember signing up for this race on a rainy early winter day in December after a six week break from running, eager to get going again. A home purchase, job change, and the pending birth of Caitlin and I's first child might of also had something to do with it. In short, I was freakin' out man and needed a part of my old life back. Inspired by Schwenk's successful efforts with his 1st marathon, I craved the simplicity of marathon training. I wrote up a training plan. Which was mostly... Wake-up. Run. Sometimes long, sometimes fast. A daily routine that makes the rest of whatever comes down the pike day to day a little easier to deal with.

Fast forward to race day, a cold snowy March morning on the Biltmore grounds. I'm getting geared up outside my car listening to <a href="; target="_blank">The Gambler on the radio. A runner again. I'm feeling confident in a low or sub 3hr finish time. Mostly due to some recent early season 5 and 10k races that have gone much better than expected. Training has been adequate, but not perfect, primarily due to a cranky left foot and only one twenty plus mile long run. Low volume training for a marathon, but I tell myself that doesn't matter because I've got a few years of ultras and high volume running under my belt. In my mind I'm visualizing the last miles of the days race , picturing myself relaxed and fast; mostly just trying not to get too caught up with pre race anxiety.

The race is delayed to 7:15, and we finally take off eager to generate some body heat. It's predictable early on. A pack of about 5 front runners, a pack of 5 chasing the front runners. We spread out by mile 6 and I'm on the tail end of the front runners. Mile 11 the guy in sixth position steps to the porta-john and I move up a spot. Mostly alone, feeling good. I hit the 13.1 mark in 1:28:00, perfect for maybe dropping the hammer on the final flat miles and gaining a position or two late. My quads are a little fatigued, but no more than I'd expect. I have mentioned that it was cold, but not how much. Temps were low 20's with the wind chill somewhere in the low teens. With that being said, the only guess for what happened next is maybe mild hypothermia. Near mile 16, I zombie ran off the course by about a quarter of a mile. I stood confused and disgusted at a gravel cul de sac a few moments and decide there is nowhere to go but back. Positions 7 and 8 had just passed me prior to getting off track, position nine scooted by as I retook the course. Things were going to hell. My left foot started aching, then I started to favor it heavily, and then in some sort of spiral effect my right butt cheek and hip felt like it was being ripped off. I also realized I couldn't feel fingers or toes. I've been in bad spots before, I told myself to keep digging, knowing eventually I'd come out on the other side. But I never did.

Near mile 19 you get funneled back in with runners only a few miles behind. They ran by me like I was some lost walker just getting in their way. A guy in an angry birds beanie, old guys, women... all of which I ate their dust. This is when I decided to just endure the cold, slow down, and have as much fun as I could. The rest of the run I treated like any other day, not a race. I congratulated and rooted for people when they passed, shot the breeze with aid station volunteers. Stopped and ate numerous aid stations cookies.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="224" src="; width="640" />

How it looks on paper

Eventually I crossed the finish line in 3:30, not feeling any of the normal accomplishment or excitement that usually accompanies finishing a race of this distance. My only feelings were ones of relief that it was over and that I didn't have to take the shuttle back to the start. So to say this was no glorious return to the world of marathoning would be a gross understatement. What I will say about this race is that it reminded me that running can always surprise you, no matter how much or for how long you've been doing it. That what you think will be routine may, for better or worse, be nothing at all like what you expect. It's exciting to know that every time you toe the line at a race you may be in for a dose of either agony or nirvana.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="; width="260" />

What a day

More photos at <a href=" id="goog_1238650424">Carolina Snapshot

2013/03/biltmore-marathon-race-report.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-782348425841002976Fri, 15 Feb 2013 01:05:00 +00002013-02-15T20:39:25.602-05:00Knoxville Track ClubStraw Plains 10kStraw Plains 10k Race Recap: The importance of pacingThis race served as a final fitness test and speed building session for the upcoming Biltmore Marathon on March 3rd. My goals for the 10k weren't linked to a specific placement or finish time, but were focused on running equal or negative splits for the entirety of the race, meaning running the same speed or getting faster throughout the race. As a general rule, you will run your best time if you have paced yourself to maintain the same speed or increase it slightly during a high intensity run, i.e, race. This sounds easy, but it is really hard to do, especially if you're like me and get really caught up in racing the people around you early on instead of racing within your means.

Picking a pace isn't especially easy either. To make the process smoother I used the <a href="; target="_blank">race times predictor from runners world, a tool that can fairly accurately predict your race time based on other recent races. Based on my most recent race, a 17:52 5k on new years day, my predicted pace came out to six minutes per mile for the 10k distance. I lowered the pace slightly because my training has gone well since then and no one is really on top of their game on the morning of new years anyway.

Having a plan is good, but actually carrying it out is better. The final piece of the equation was making sure I stayed on pace. To help with this, I set my Garmin to alarm every half mile with the hope of looking down and seeing something in the neighborhood of 2min55sec for every half mile run. Surprisingly, I actually came really close to nailing that time for every half mile split. Here's the feedback from my watch.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="; width="352" />

My chip time for the race came out to 35:56, placing me 5th overall. Which for a Knoxville Track Club race ain't half bad. The rest of the TN Spine team also fared really well too, in team competition we landed in 2nd for the open division and 3rd for women and co-ed.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="; width="362" />

Trying not to get chic'd

I feel a lot more confident coming out of this race than I did going into it. My overall speed is quite a bit better than I would have guessed at this point in the season. It's also really surprising to see how far a well researched race plan can have on your outcome. Planning can take a little of the spontaneity out of race day, which can be either good or bad depending on your personality, but ultimately helps you run a better race. Devising splits and target paces may not be for everyone, but no one is opposed to running a little faster on race day.2013/02/straw-plains-10k-race-recap-importance.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-7958437224240372420Sat, 26 Jan 2013 17:18:00 +00002013-01-26T12:18:02.511-05:00Gatlinburg Fun RunWe Run These Streets

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="; width="400" />

10 runners, 4 dogs, and lots of foolishness

This past Wednesday the inaugural Gatlinburg fun-run occurred, which consisted of 4 cold miles and fortunately no injuries or arrests. Fierce competition is again expected, as runners from throughout the East Gatlinburg area will again be vying for the coveted 1st place spot.

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

An ineffective stop

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="; width="400" />

YOU CANT DO THAT HERE!

<a href="; imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="; width="320" />

A failed attempt at five minute time deduction

2013/01/we-run-these-streets.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-41561439371683793Sun, 06 Jan 2013 01:26:00 +00002013-01-05T20:27:28.995-05:005kKnoxville Track ClubNew Years DayKicking the New Year Off Right-ishA new years day race seems like a reasonable moderation mechanism for the holidays, until the holidays actually start to happen and the thought of pushing yourself plus all of your indulgences through three miles is supremely unappealing. This year made my second running of Knoxville's new years day 5k, and despite being more than a little worn out from the holiday grind I actually had a really good time. Meaning that I both had fun and ran fast.

I scooted through the course in a personal best time of 17:52. Pr's are always satisfying , but this one was especially so after the year of injuries and inconsistencies that marked most of my running year for 2012. No part of me would have guessed in October, a month where I accumulated a total of 9 miles, that I would set any kind of PR on January 1st.

Through Schwenk's inspiration, I decided to go back to plan based training this year. For the new years day race, I worked through <a href="; target="_blank">Hal Higdon's Advanced 5k plan. I'll also be using a Higdon plan for the <a href="; target="_blank">Asheville Marathon in March. Later in the year, I have plans by <a href="; target="_blank">Matt Fitzgerald that I'll be using for different races. My goal in all this is to see what happens when I train specifically for something, versus running how and when I feel like it, and jumping into races last minute. Also, I'd like to maintain some consistency in my running and avoid another year of the boom and bust cycle.

My general success at this race is also exciting because I'm running for a team this year, <a href="; target="_blank">Tennessee Spine has assembled a group to compete in KTC's team competition. For our debut we placed second overall, not bad in an environment as competitive as running in Knoxville can be.2013/01/kicking-new-year-off-right-ish.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (dworth)1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3516866766166217373.post-2773244877857319415Tue, 13 Nov 2012 13:13:00 +00002012-11-13T08:15:27.514-05:00Cold Snowy NorthMarathon TrainingTwin Cities MarathonIt Feels Like the First Time
The following post is a guest entry from Jon Schwenk. Schwenk and I met during a college backpacking class in the Spring of 2004 and have since peer pressured each other and some choice friends into thru-hikes, marathons, and other somewhat unpleasant events.

                                                                                                                         D.W.

Why would you do this to yourself?

I guess the bulk of the readership here has completed a number of marathon-distance (or longer) runs, and probably a long time ago. So sit back and relive that first nervous race as I recount all the mistakes I made that you probably no longer do.

I’m not a runner. I’ve never really enjoyed running and shin splints and asthmatic-leftover labored breathing did nothing to help the cause. But I knew a marathon was inevitable—I was the last of the infamous Tennessee studs ( a moniker given to Matt, Jon, and I while on our 2008 thru-hike, D.W.) to run the 26.2. We’re also close to all of us finishing half-iron distance triathlons (looking at you, Dave).

In fact, it was at Bird’s Colorado triathlon where Cody clued me in about barefoot running and landing on the balls of the feet more so than the heels. As we ran around Sloan Lake a day before Bird’s tri, Cody intrigued me with the basics of the new barefoot running fad. I did some reading and decided to give it a try—I might as well stress my calf muscles which can become stronger instead of my shins which instead of getting stronger only feel more and more like someone trying to pry my ‘em off with a screwdriver.

I scored a pair of Vivobarefoot Neomesh Airs from steepandcheap over the winter and sent in my money for the Twin Cities Marathon. It seemed odd to be paying $100+ dollars to do something I can do for free anytime, but I’m glad it was expensive. Committing is the easy part; following-through requires serious effort and perseverance and the money spent was a good motivator to keep going.

I needed a plan, and the internet provided dozens of them. I chose <a href="; target="_blank">Hal Higdon’s “Novice 2,” an 18-week plan with three runs throughout the week and a long run on the weekend. The long runs started with 8 miles and gradually increased to a maximum of 20. Some of the runs were labeled “pace,” indicating they should be run at the speed you intend to run the marathon. After some pre-training test runs, I figured I could swing an 8 min/mile pace (3:30 marathon) and that became the training goal.

Running, I discovered, is also a mental exercise. If you don’t feel like running, a 3 miler can feel like an 8 miler. If you’re excited, a 3 miler can feel like an awesome 2 miler plus a 4 miler after the excitement wanes. Patience seemed to be the key; don’t think about how much is left or how far you’ve come. Just get your mind to stay home and monitor how the body feels and check your form. Then wait it out. It was during the training runs that I began to enjoy running. I found solitude during early-morning runs along the Mississippi River or around the Lakes or along forested greenways. Opening up my stride for a few miles was freeing and I felt strong. I explored miles of Minneapolis I hadn’t seen before.

<a href="; target="_blank">Strategery

Months of training prepared me body physically and mentally for the race, but I hadn’t worked out a raceday strategy—how fast and hard should I push it? My training gave me a certain amount of gas in the tank, and I knew I’d run out before the race was over. The question became: how fast do I run to maximize my fuel efficiency? The experts seemed to agree that running the entire race at the same pace was the way to go. Well that’s impossible for a beginner, and nearly impossible for anyone. The tendency for newbies seems to be push it too hard initially, thinking “I feel great” before crashing later in the ra

It can be found <a href=";.

- Warren 2006/09/update-to-abacus-main-web-site.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Atari Bay Area Computer Users Society)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8566251.post-115507304641688531Tue, 08 Aug 2006 21:32:00 +00002006-08-08T14:37:26.466-07:00Recap of August 2006 A.B.A.C.U.S. MeetingA quick recap of our August meeting: Warren started the meeting with a Web-based animation showing a standing lenticular cloud. He did this because the desktop picture on his computer shows a spectacular lenticular cloud over Japan's Mt. Fuji. Roger then pointed him to a Fark.Com Photoshopping contest that used that very picture. Warren also showed a site called Gmaps Pedometer, which lets you calculate distances on a Google map by drawing a line over your route.

Roger then directed Warren to look at a Web site called Blogging Baby. Roger is now blogging there for money! (Don't quit your day job, Roger.) Warren used this as a cue to start a short discussion of blogging services, as our newsletter editor, Del, wants to stort his own weblog. Warren followed this with a quick and incomplete demo showing how he uses a post editor called Ecto to post entries to ABACUS's weblog.

This was followed by the main event where Warren showed Photoshop Elements 4.0, with emphasis on two new features, the Magic Selection Brush and the Magic Extractor. Both tools allow you clip out parts of a digital photo so they can be rearranged or pasted into another photo (as in the Fark.Com contest mentioned above). He had some trouble with this demo (SOP for an ABACUS presentation) because his mouse was misbehaving. Roger saved the day by loaning Warren a very nice Logitech Trackman trackball to replace the ailing mouse. In response to a question by Phil, Warren also repeated part of a previous demo on how to assemble a panorama from several digital photos, with tips on how to get the different photos to line up properly.

After he completed the PE 4.0 demo there was still plenty of time left, so Warren showed several tunes he had composed using Apple's GarageBand software. This led into a discussion of music videos, which led to a discussion of YouTube, a popular video hosting site. Roger directed us to a startling YouTube video by the musical group OK Go. Warren then mentioned a competition between several bloggers to see who could post the cheesiest music video found on YouTube. He first showed a tongue-in-cheek video of William Shatner singing (o.k., reciting) Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Unfortunately, he followed this by finding a video of David Hasselhoff singing Hooked On A Feeling. Due to this unpleasent incident, the meeting was hastily adjourned and hazardous materials teams were called in to decontaminate the attendees, the Sinasohn household and the surrounding neighborhood. The EPA is still evaluating whether to designate the area a Superfund site (O.K. I'm kidding about the last two sentences!).

Links for all of the items mentioned above can be found on our main site, <a href=";.2006/08/recap-of-august-2006-abacus-meeting.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Atari Bay Area Computer Users Society)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8566251.post-115471397273554619Fri, 04 Aug 2006 17:48:00 +00002006-08-26T17:49:45.233-07:00Photoshop Elements 4.0 at the August 2006 MeetingI'll be demonstrating some of the new features in Photoshop 4.0 at our next meeting, Saturday, August 5, 2006 at Roger's place.

- Warren2006/08/photoshop-elements-40-at-august-2006.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Atari Bay Area Computer Users Society)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8566251.post-114911240315212216Wed, 31 May 2006 21:50:00 +00002006-05-31T14:53:23.196-07:00Laptop Info Requested For June 2006 MeetingI'd like to pass on a request from Del, our newsletter editor. He and his wife Billie are still planning to purchase a laptop computer for her use. He would like to spend some time at the upcoming June meeting (Saturday, June 3, 2006) getting advice about what model he and Billie should buy. Yes, I know we discussed this a bit at the last meeting, but Del feels he still doesn't have enough information to make a purchase. So put on your laptop thinking hats and be prepared to tell him what you know. Billie may also be there. Thanks.

- Warren2006/05/laptop-info-requested-for-june-2006.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Atari Bay Area Computer Users Society)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8566251.post-114371015570972997Thu, 30 Mar 2006 09:14:00 +00002006-03-30T01:20:44.843-08:00About the April 2006 MeetingFor the upcoming April 2006 meeting, Roger will be demonstrating video editing on his recently built (and finally working) <a href=" computer using <a href=" Studio 9. Since all attendees were agreeable to this, and constituted a quorum of the membership, the resolution passed by acclimation. We decided to do this, in part, because the July meeting usually conflicted with Independence Day, the September meeting usually fell on Labor Day weekend, and, most importantly, the November meeting and the <a href=" Computer Festival usually collided.

This means that the next A.B.A.C.U.S. meeting will be Saturday, February 4, 2006 (provided we can all get past <a href=" Day). Subsequent meetings in 2006 will take place in April, June, August, October and December. There will be no meetings in January, March, May, July, September or November. More details can be found at <a href=" A.B.A.C.U.S. web site, at least once I've finished updating it!

See you February 4th.

- Warren 2006/01/no-abacus-meeting-in-january-2006.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Atari Bay Area Computer Users Society)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8566251.post-113412342364529520Fri, 09 Dec 2005 10:16:00 +00002005-12-09T02:17:03.680-08:00Just a reminder - meeting is this Saturday, 12/10I think we've finally gotten that straightened out. The December A.B.A.C.U.S. meeting will be this coming Saturday, December 10, 2005. Apparently, Del (our newsletter editor) was ill and unable to get the word out. I'm trying it out to see if I can use it to save a draft of a given post before I post it to the ABACUS weblog. The Blogger software used for Blogspot weblogs is notorious for eating a post that one has worked upon for hours, and I wanted to see if there was a way to at least keep a copy of the post, in case I needed to recover it later. The […] The post Liberal 12-point lead holds as focus on Trump fades slightly appeared first on Abacus Data. Our latest national tracking survey was conducted from October 2 to 13, 2026, as the federal government continues to navigate an uncertain economic environment, ongoing tensions with the United States, and persistent concerns about affordability. Since our previous survey in late September, the Carney government has continued to emphasize economic growth, investment, and affordability. The Prime Minister announced a $2-billion initiative to support energy-efficient home retrofits, while new employment figures have reinforced concerns about the state of the Canadian economy. At the same time, the relationship with the United States remains an important part of the federal political environment, even as the degree to which Canadians identify Donald Trump and his administration as one of the country’s most pressing issues has begun to ease. Our latest survey finds a stable picture when it comes to federal vote intention, but somewhat more movement in how Canadians are evaluating the government and its leadership. The Liberal Party continues to lead the Conservatives by 12 points nationally. If an election were held today, 46% of committed voters would vote Liberal, 34% Conservative, 9% NDP, 7% Bloc Québécois, 3% Green, and 1% People’s Party. These numbers are almost identical to those recorded in our September 23 survey. Liberal, Conservative, NDP, and Bloc support are all unchanged. But beneath that stability, there are some indications that the political environment has softened slightly for the government. Approval of the federal government has fallen three points to 57%, while disapproval has increased four points to 29%. Mark Carney’s personal impression rating remains strongly positive, but his net rating has slipped from +31 to +26. And while almost half of Canadians continue to think the country is heading in the right direction, that number has edged down one point to 47%, while the share who think Canada is on the wrong track has increased three points to 42%. Meanwhile, the rising cost of living remains the most frequently cited issue facing the country, selected by 64% of Canadians. Concern about Donald Trump and his administration has fallen four points to 40%, although it remains the second-most-selected issue nationally. The result is a political environment in which the Liberals continue to hold a substantial electoral advantage, but where some of the broader measures that had been improving in recent weeks have moved modestly in the other direction. Liberals Lead Conservatives by 12 Points, Unchanged from September If an election were held today, 46% of committed voters would vote Liberal, 34% Conservative, 9% NDP, 7% Bloc Québécois, 3% Green, 1% People’s Party, and less than 1% another party. Compared with our September 23 survey, there has been almost no movement in national vote intention. Liberal support is unchanged at 46%, as is Conservative support at 34%. The NDP remains at 9%, the Bloc Québécois at 7%, and the People’s Party at 1%. Green Party support has increased one point to 3%. The 12-point Liberal lead is therefore unchanged. Among those who say they are certain to vote in an election, the Liberals receive 47% and the Conservatives 35%, also a 12-point gap. The NDP receives 8%, the Bloc 8%, and the Greens 2%. /* === WRAPPER & RESET === */ .abd-vote13oct26-wrap{all:revert;display:block;width:100%;max-width:900px;margin:0
